I'd find a genre that you think is interesting, and then go from there! There are tons of options for RPs. There's sci-fi, political, geopolitical, fantasy, action in all varieties and settings, horror, mystery, crime, slice-of-life, even superhero RPs I've seen exist. The options are boundless! Come up with a couple genres you might want to check out, and we can give you suggestions!

Hey everybody! Developing a sort of post apocalyptic fantasy RP with dice mechanics. Just wondering if there’s be any interest in something like that?

It'll start after the initial conquest and deal more with the occupation and economic integration of the world beyond the GATE, focussing on politics of states and companies rather than us v them military.

What? Me put something in the wrong thread? Never...

General Idea: Alternate North American RP

The True North, also known as Maugrym, is a new nation that formed following an international depression. In an effort to cut spending, Canada and the USA merged into the nation of Maugrym and create new jobs. In the fifty years since then, two political parties rule the land, and there is a combination of the American and Canadian political systems in place.

First off, there are five states, usually called Commonwealths. Each of these has a governor, a Senator, and a representative. Every 20 years, these maps are redrawn. They were most recently redrawn last year, 2021; it is currently January 2022. Senators serve as governors of their Commonwealths but also work as the upper legislative body in Maugrym. The representatives serve as local leaders and members of the lower body of the legislature, which is called the House. Together, they make up the National Assembly. The NA selects a President from among their own members every three years. It is now time to select the next president.

There are two main parties, the National Conservatives and the Democratic Coalition. The Conservatives prefer center-right and right-leaning policies, while the Democrats prefer center-left and left-leaning policies. There is currently a tie in membership in both the Senate (3 to 3) and the House (7 to 7 with one vacancy) with no party having overall control. Politics are not currently polarized due to mass bipartisanship in recent years. However, this tie threatens to break the tradition of a working political system.

Just as a rule of thumb...generally an RP taking place in your own nation certainly is gonna have trouble taking off.

I've been thinking of ideas for an RP that is a parody of the many, many superhero RPs on here. Any suggestions?

I suggest focusing on the RP you're already the sole moderator of.

Ah, I get what you mean. Usually superhero RPs are hard to keep going with lots of people, from what I've seen. They usually close pretty early.

Would anyone be interested in a Star Wars rp? I see the market for them is wide open, and I have an old idea for one that I'm thinking of dusting off and furnishing.

Deblar wrote:Well, it’s a bit all over the place, I let my imagination run wild coming up with it.

The main diversion from the canon Star Wars timeline is the survival of Mace Windu (I know, totally original). After Order 66 is executed and the Empire rises over the galaxy, he goes off the grid. During his exile, he meets a couple of tech-savvy mercenaries who agree to help him hide from the Empire, as well as bounty hunters. After a while, Mace is quite sick of exile, and of the Empire forcing him into exile, so with the help of said mercenaries, he airs a message at large across the galaxy, encouraging people to rise up against the Empire. The message would end up working, as some in the Middle and Outer Rims would rise up and topple the local Imperial governments, separated into two factions: the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and another faction that also wants to restore the Republic, but with less bureaucracy, wishing to make it more of a federation/confederation.

There is also a third faction thrown in for good measure: the Separatists. One random droid General, who’d basically be space Napoleon, refuses to follow Palpatine’s order to deactivate his droid army, along with some others, and they retreat into the Unknown Regions. The aforementioned general ends up taking over and transforms the CIS into a de facto military dictatorship, and upon seeing the Empire begin to fracture, he and the CIS re-emerge from the shadows to reclaim what they feel is rightfully theirs.

Not only does the Empire have to deal with the two rebel factions, plus the reemerged Separatists, they also have to find Windu, who is now, for all intents and purposes, public enemy number one as far as the Empire is concerned. He is, however, still in hiding and ridiculously hard to find, as he is now on the move, aiming to avoid the Imperial search parties.

There is a couple of other, smaller diversions thrown in for the heck of it, one of them being the survival of Padme. I kinda always thought the whole “losing the will to live” thing was a bit crappy, so I gave Padme a reason to continue living: to raise her child(ren). The twins are still separated, although Leia is in the custody of Padme, who has largely disappeared from the public eye, while Luke, like in canon, is in the custody of Owen and Beru.

Again, it’s a bit all over the place, but at least it’s somewhat original.

Well, I got idea for a rp and wondered how it sounds since this would be my first attempt at a horror rp and is a developing idea so here goes.

2283, a maybe top secret research space station goes dark after sending out one last message for help from an unknown threat. A team is deployed to the station to secure it and save the scientists if possible But, an entity possessing one of the scientists now wanders the halls of the station that the team will have to face. Along with what remains of the crew and find a way to stop the entity before it kills them. That is more info but it is mainly backstory that players can uncover during the rp. So any thoughts?

What's your inspiration for the setting/plot so far?

It can help to give some references (e.g. Doom, Dead Space) to get a rough idea of the technology and/or lore you will be inspired by.

Had an idea for a nation RP in a Cold War-style scenario, but instead of right vs left, it's leftist infighting.

And, instead of a 2-way ideological battle, 4 "sides" are fighting for dominance:

- a Market-Socialist / Democratic-Socialist alliance;
- a Syndicalist & Anarcho-Communist coalition;
- a State-Socialist / "Authoritarian-Socialist" bloc;
- and a "Non-Aligned" organization mostly made up of Social-Democracies or nations following an ideology that doesn't fit in with the other 3 camps.

RP would start in 1946 following the conclusion of a heavily altered WWII, with the maximum end date being 1991 or '92.

Does the concept sound interesting to any of you?

Sounds extremely interesting to me, but I am a lefty, so there. But I would myself go with a different division, in perhaps using Council Communists instead of Market socialists, and making some division between democratic State Socialists and Marxist-Leninists with their vanguardism. But those are minimal changes at best, and only give different flavour, I think your idea is good.

Actually, I decided on doing another idea. Still sci-fi horror only it is set five years after a powerful god-like entity appears and ravages the galaxy. Decimating the galaxy and despite attempts to kill it. Even with the combined might of five strong nations. No one is capable of defeating it. So the entity pretty much destroys, kills, and corrupts what it wants. Along with creating nightmarish creatures called Void Beasts that hunt anyone and had both land and space variants. And the beings that are corrupted are more or less mindless monsters that attack anyone not them. Which at this point, most of the survivors are either hiding on planets that can still support life or travel on what ships they can find as nomads. Which have to deal with not only void beasts and the corrupted, but, also cultists. People would worship the entity and other survivors who are either friendly or raiders.

In the rp, people would be playing as members of the human battlecruiser Arcadian. Either as part of the original crew, or refugees that the ship has picked up. It would be possible to play as aliens. Which the plot of the rp would at dealing with surviving but, after a simple scavenge mission to a derelict space station. The crew finds a clue that will lead them to the origins of the entity and how to stop it.

The year would be 2287 and tech would be, FTL, power armor, shields limited to power armor and ships, mac cannons, laser weapons though they were still new when it appeared so not a lot of humans have access to them but, the Arcadian does along with projectile based weapons, cybernetics, and limited A.I. At least at the moment tech-wise.

This is mainly an original idea though I have to admit that if there was an inspiration. I would say Dead Space. Not a lot but, a small amount.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll include council communism in the syndicalist/ancom faction, and I'll probably have it so that democratic State Socialists have a "Sino-Soviet type dynamic" with the vanguardist State Socialists (i.e, the relationship can easily sour over time or be maintained, depending on what the vanguardists or democratic State Socialists do). If you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you and I could somehow work together on it, if you're open to doing so that is. I wouldn't be extremely active during the week, but on weekends I could possibly throw ideas around with you, etc.
