Hmm, since he wasn't an officer in the last iteration he won't be at the start of this one but we can certainly make him one in the course of the IC, perhaps when he tracks down who was spying...

Name: Jonathan Wilson
Gender: Male
Species: Human

Class: Explorer
Bio:

Jonathan Wilson belongs to a long line of starship officers serving the House of Kamran, one of the many Noble Houses of the Imperial Commonwealth. His father is the Admiral of the House's Armada and his mother an important scientist specializing in terraforming. Growing up, Jonathan had a rebellious streak; he would disobey his strict father and would prefer partying, drinking and sleeping around to studying hard. Nevertheless, being the son of an Admiral meant that Jonathan was admitted into the Pilot's Academy of the House of Kamran.

His demeanor changed when during a training exercise - during which he and a number of pilots had to fly their fighters through a dangerous asteroid field - his best friend died. The day before the exercise they had been partying and drinking, and Jonathan naturally blamed his friend's death on the drinking and the subsequent hangover. Jonathan quit drinking and began studying hard. This, along with a natural flair for piloting, meant he graduated at the top of his class; this time without his dad's intervention.

Jonathan then distinguished in a number of missions, mostly chasing down criminals and pirates. At the age of 28, he was approached by Lord Maximilian; third son of Grand Lord Watson of the House of Kamran. The Grand Lord had declared that he would be succeeded by the son that would impress him the most. As the Grand Lord always had a desire to learn of what lies beyond the great beyond, Maximilian decided to field an expedition to the unknown voids of Galactic Darkspace, and he felt that no one would be better fit to lead this dangerous expedition than Jonathan. Despite the protests of his father, who feared the mission was too dangerous, Jonathan accepted Lord Maximilian's offier.

Now, Jonathan is at the Fiyarro colony of Sathas, in one final stop before going to Port Dusk. He heads the Yodos-Class Brigantine 'Defiant', manned by a crew of ten. His mission? To go where no one else has gone before.

Equipment: 400 Credits / 2 Senemarys C32's / 3 Space Suits / Light Armor
Crew: 10
Ship: Brigantine

The crew of the Defiant:

Samuel Harris
Image

Jonathan's best friend and First Officer of the Defiant. An ever optimistic, happy-go-lucky young man, whenever things look dark, Samuel is always there to uplift the spirit of the crew. Having served for years in the Fleet of House Kamran, he is highly experienced; in fact, he had been proposed the position of Captain but he decided to turn it down in favor of following his best friend in this grand adventure.

Naomi Palmer
Image

Doctor Naomi Palmer is the youngest Professor of Astrophysics employed by the Academia of the House of Kamran. Or rather was, since she decided to abandon her academic career to join the crew of the Defiant in this adventure. Naomi is responsible for analyzing and explaining space phenomena the crew may encounter as well as charting the ship's course. She is a rather cold woman who shows little interest in anything else aside from astrophysics and her official duties.

Aidan Robertson
Image

Pilot of the Defiant, Aidan was a classmate of Jonathan in the Pilot's Academy of the House of Kamran. The two of them were friends until Aidan found out that Jonathan had slept with his then girlfriend. Since then, Aidan has been trying to prove that he is a better pilot than Jonathan; he has partaken in many dangerous operations and got plenty of medals for his actions. Arrogant, cocky, sarcastic and with a personal vendetta against Jonathan, Aidan may prove more of a trouble than an asset for the team.

Spencer Andrews
Image

The Chief Doctor of the Defiant. A brilliant doctor who is widely renowned in his field of expertise, Spencer is also highly irritable and bound to outbursts of anger. He criticizes everyone in the crew, complains about the latest trends of society and laments that the end of civilization is near.

Ashlyn Hudson
Image

Ashlyn is a nurse and assistant to Doctor Spencer. Unlike Spender, she is friendly, optimistic and kind. Nevertheless, she is not afraid to voice her opinions and to challenge others when she believes they are in the wrong.

Charlie Goodson
Image

Charlie Goodson is the Therapist of the Defiant. With the starship heading into the void of Galactic Darkspace, Lord Maximilian thought it would be a good idea to assign a therapist in the crew to monitor their mental health. Charlie, however, has his own problems; an addiction to alcohol, smoking and women. In this mission he will have to struggle to keep himself in line as much as the crew.

Yu Byung-Ho
Image

Yu Byung-Ho is the Engineer of the Defiant. An exceptionally bright mind, he keeps the ship in one piece. Despite his intellectual brilliance though, Yu is a reserved and shy man who prefers to be left alone.

Max Hill
Image

Max is a man with long experience in warfare, having served in the 2nd Marine Corps of the House of Kamran. He has fought against pirates and insurgents, and has been decorated more than once. An orphan who doesn't like to talk about his troubled past, he has little to no compulsions about killing. Despite that, he has a strict moral system and refuses to use his battle prowess against those he deems as 'weak' and in need of protection. As a crewman of the Defiant, he is responsible for ground battles and surface reconnaissance.

Leon Cole
Image

Compulsive gambler, charming playboy, drunkard; all those describe Leon Cole. A friend of Jonathan from back when he was partying all day long, he asked the Captain to join the crew of the Defiant. Not because of any love of science or exploration, but rather to escape from a Mafia Boss to whom Leon owns a million credits. Jonathan decided to allow his friend to come aboard, but in order to justify this to Lord Maximilian, he stated that Leon would be the ship's cook. Problem is... Leon barely knows how to cook.

Edward Mcmahon
Image

Edward Mcmahon was a personal choice of Lord Maximilian. His personal secretary, he is meant to keep a log of the Defiant's travels and to monitor the crew of the starship. Unlike all other crewmen, he has the right to counteract the decisions of Jonathan.

Contacts were the Farrasqui Artifact Smuggler from the Chasca heist job, that human trader, and Samuel Bridge Iron. Still waiting on rewards from the Yelm job so I think trying to talk with the planetary government to get some more money and try to plan for the fight against Zevos for the corvette.

Other:
Back in the Imperium's high days, around 3500 years prior, the Imperium found the marsh homeworld of Golgara. The Dunkidor are a sentient race of anthropomorphic ducks that were backwards and were as advanced to that of the Victorian Age in some places and iron age in the other areas. The Humans enslaved them very swiftly and used them to be farmers in the various agriworlds in their local sectors.

This was marked by the Great Separation for their kind. The Imperium scattered their people across the galactic winds and their clans grew different between each other in entire worlds. Many of them had became different in adaptions and biology in some cases. Those who grew in agriworlds that were harsher made those ducks much stronger and more combat sound while those who had the easy life were more weaker, yet smarter.

After 1000 years of being bred, enslaved, and adapting that they rebelled. The various rebellions were nearly put down unanimously as they were scattered but three had succeed in a bittersweet form. The homeworld one was the largest and managed to get their people off the planet and into the unknowns of the Outer Rim. Another world, Makhiem, were the Dunkidor were among the strongest of their race had fought back the Humans and hijack a couple of freighters and head to the Outer Rim. The last was a space station called Tyrnior Port. The Dunkidor were more technicians working both hydroponics and smuggled books and other things to increase their intelligence.

The people of the space station just hacked their way on a tramp freighter and drove into the Outer Rim. They found a planet called Beaer and all joined together and used the Human technology to build themselves a force and promised to strike back against their oppressors wherever they colonized or draw their banners. Such was the oaths given to one another to form a confederation of clans that survive the Humans and strike back against the galaxy, thus the Tula Vuhul was started.

From the corners they came upon the sector of their former homeworld and slave colonies and wage a war of dominance against the Imperial holdings. The battles were bloody and destructive, many clans were lost in the annals of history but they continued to fight. Even then the slaves were freed and they fought against the humans as small victories become big ones as they added up. Eventually the final battle happened on their homeworld where the first High Chieftain Volstang the Whitetail who took out the general in single-hand combat.

The Ducks cheered and reassert their dominance in the sector, taking human tech and turning that against their oppressors. During this time the Imperium was suffering setbacks but the Ducks still had an uphill battle to continue the Tula Vuhul across different sectors as Dunkidor ships and millions of troops took to the stars in search of glory, loot, and battle across the stars. These clans became known as Uthina Bin, Star Clans while the many more who settled on the worlds they conquered and colonize as the Enalda Bin, Stick Clans.

The Imperial sectors that were under constant threat of the Duck Star Clans they had been slowly pushed off by the increasing number, tactics and even tech from other alien species to help them in the war against the Imperium. Eventually sectors started to get captured in either whole or various ways but the humans shed many of the Ducks blood. The battles of attrition that the Humans can do with an equal amount of murderous intent had infinite numbers and infinite resources to throw at the Star Clans as every planet and battle was costly against the Dunkidor.

Still, the Tula Vuhul continued as every victory allowed them to take such resources and tech to help better their species as a whole. However all victories did come to an end when a Imperial Crusade came to come and stop the rampaging Dunkidor and exterminate the watery fowls once and for all. The humans burned a path through the newly colonized space of the xenos but did met a grind when they came upon the core space of the Dunkidor, the Thule Clusters.

These worlds had surprisingly powerful defenses and churned out ships and men at a turn rate that some believe shouldn't be possible. The ships were built by the use of new sophisticated automation and VI systems while Star Clans had used their wealth to come together and commission cloning and genetic engineered clan members to match the attrition that they would soon face. Even against the numbers of the Crusade such small victories weren't enough and they at best slowed down one part only for others to slip through.

The only way for them to be saved was by luck as Clan Steel Fowl had managed to create a miracle by outmaneuvering the Crusade fleet and managed to inflict heavy casualties on the capital ships. It was one of the signal greatest victories the Ducks had ever done against the Humans. Still, the battles against the humans were still hefty but they managed to stop it there and push back, just barely.

Afterwards the Crusade, the ducks nearly got exterminated but the ducks survived. It would take many centuries till the year 6200 where they managed to take up colonizing and the Tula Vuhul was taken up once more. They had a better time in their wars this time around as the Imperium was corrupted and the regional leaders were not as strong compared to what they were centuries ago. This allowed the various Duck Clans to set up and invade entire sectors in the name of their vengeance against the humans. Many of the humans who settled on their former worlds were wiped out or turned into thralls with sterility programs enforced upon them.

Many humans fled the coming invasions of more and more ducks had started to migrate from the Thule Clusters and other nearby regions searching for loot, glory and land for the rest of their population. It wasn't entirely a walk in the park as some Imperial warlords had band together to fight against the Ducks. They were beaten back but that didn't deter them against the feathered tide.

From decades turned to centuries, the Ducks met other alien species and they worked with them and some Star Clans became mercenaries and traders to go across the galaxy as the war kept going for the Ducks to get their vengeance against the humans. Many of these Star Clans do not seek glory or honor in fighting the Eternal Foe, but search for peace and trade in bringing back the Old Culture. A time before the Humans found and enslaved them so long ago.

Those who did this had colonized away of the main Ducks and into places across the Outer Rim or in places like the Freehold in exchange for helping a planet's defense with their military skills or ships. They are few and far between in comparison to those who fight but they have been growing in number since the fall of the Imperium as many of their kind have believed that the fall of the Imperium had been the vengeance that they wanted but other still fight their successors as humans can never forgive the ducks for their atrocities and the ducks can never forgive the transgressions the Imperials had done.

Because of their history of battles and the Eternal War had made them famous for their warriors and battles despite the small size compared to other star-nations. They are ruled as a confederation of clans with each of their respective leaders lead in a clan ring. They use the use of the internet similar to the Ellireans. They are even sophisticated in some ways, using battlesuits and VI's to help them fight and help them on their ships. They're not as advanced as others but such things were meant to accommodate their weaknesses as birds and have half the size of a human.

Despite the biological shortcomings they are fairly advanced, mostly using human tech they plundered and copied or alien tech they traded for. One of the most important tech that they have besides their automation is their clone and genetic engineering tech. Many of their people in the Star Clans tend to use these two in order to replenish troop numbers and they'll be able to fight against the Imperial successors in the galaxy.

One such enemy that they wholly fight against is the Blessed Empire, those who have deemed the Dunkidor as evil demons who have ever so expanding in their territories and have done grave misdeeds to humanity itself. Such fights are brutal on both forces as the local worlds would get devastated beyond repair but still the fight goes on. Still the Ducks make their small gains and ransack Cardinal Worlds in spite and defile the Divinity of Man as they strike vengeance against the supposed true successor of the Imperium.

While many of the Star and Planet Clans have started to spread out from their Thule Clusters and other sectors that have devoted themselves to fighting the Blessed Empire. They live out in the Outer Rim as small fiefs independent of their confederation or they become nomadic as they either plunder things or become merc outfits. Some have even joined the Freeholds as the newest members being a good addition to their collective navy and a lot of those Star Clans join happily to keep the Freeholds free.

The Ducks themselves seem like one of the few growing star-nations in this new galaxy, with their Eternal War sharping their bills and skill against the Blessed Empire more so than most warrior races but that is one of the few reasons why the don't expand very rapidly. Many believe that if they did stop their Eternal War and poured their resources inward then they would be a fairly prosperous people.

Only time will tell if the Ducks finally move on from their transgressions against the Imperials and finally work on improving their newly gathered homes.

Well, if you want to do it, sure. I can provide you the credits as needed. Plus, you'll surely get a lot of fame and good reputation with the planet of Ylem.

I think we should try to establish something with the government and what can they do for the Clan. There isn't much I can offer except for premium security service that can escort and other things that can work for a small outfit like Clan Van. Even with me taking down Zevos and capturing the Wicked Grin I can't offer much to Yelm.

You'll find plenty of merc-work soon, especially if I hire you to guard me against pirates as I deliver supply back and forth.

Sure, but understand that I will need more than 500 credits, more than 1000 if I manage to take the corvette. This all stems back from the government probably paying me monthly so that I can grow enough to send a detachment of Clan Van to help you or the Fly while the main force is in the Grin.

True, just talking about this makes me excited for the IC and the continuing of the story.

Name: Theodora Merriet Gavro
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Class: Criminal
Bio: Theodora, who does not know the name given to her by her heretical birth-parents, was taken by the Vaultcloak Sisterhood during the Fall of Vorretec. She was only eight months old at the time. Vorretec, where her parents had lived, had been chosen by the Unitarian battle sisters as an example; a place on the borderlands between the Imperium and the Purity, that had little strategical significance and had thus far been spared the horrors of war. As such, it was a place where refugees flocked, and many races could be found living there in harmony. The Sisterhood made an example out of them and torched the settlement, taking in only the girls who were still young enough for re-education.

Growing up on Solorn Station, amidst the Weeping Mother nebula, was harsh. The Vaultcloak Sisters trained the children they took in both fundamentalist Unitarian beliefs and in the art of combat. A whole human-centric, divine history was part of their curriculum, as well as an almost paradoxical love-hate relationship with the Imperium Galaxis: holy in being, but corrupted by the unrighteous echelons at the top. The Sisterhood was known in their particular star-region for acts of terrorism aimed at that corrupt summit of power, but in that crusade almost everything was a valid target. Upon attaining the rank of 'adept', at around age 10, the girls were made a part of their first raid, thus cementing in their mind their connection to the Sisterhood, and creating trauma that they could only really find help for within the Sisterhood. Psychological help was seen as heretical and an affront to the holy human spirit, which needed not be contained.

At around age 13, Theodora became interested in galactic history on a deeper level. If humanity was so great, then what did the galaxy look like before humanity? Through an unfamiliar back door in the library, she managed to enter the Forbidden Section of the Sisterhood archives, which held the banned knowledge on the origins of the universe. This is how she first came to know about the Builders, the Second Sons, and the threat that had almost wiped out humanity. It became harder and harder for her to believe the central tenant of humanity's superiority, if the Builders could build these magnificent structures which were so far beyond the knowledge of humanity nowadays. According to Sisterhood scripture, some of the Builders' superior genome lived on through humanity, but there was little evidence for this. It took her six years to prepare her escape from the Sisterhood, but after her 19th birthday, just after she had been granted her Sisterhood and her deep black cloak, she disappeared into the galaxy, hoping to find evidence that the Builders lived on through humanity.

While she did not find it, she did learn a lot about the galaxy that she hadn't known before. Unitarian dream, that humanity was a beacon of light in a dark universe, was, if not shattered, nuanced. Humans could be absolute jerks, and xenos could be the kindest beings in the galaxy. The unitarian ideals still persist in her, however, even to this day. At the start she was a pure scholar, traveling from library to library, across different towns and monestaries, garden worlds, ancient sites... But soon the galaxy closed on her, and there are still those places that cannot be visited by anyone based on mere interest. This is when the smuggling and the grave-robbing began. Trained in combat by the sisters, she quickly learned that the right application of force could open many doors. Even more so, credits formed the basic lubricant of the galaxy, and collectors were happy to pay a pretty penny for ancient artefacts. As such, her expeditions, besides being matters of discovery, became ventures for profit.

When the war broke out, she was already experienced in the world that it would create. Not only that, but while the war was horrific, it opened up so many places that had previosuly been closed off. Whole isolated worlds closed off by war lords now ravaged by way. Whole sectors that had been blockaded but which were now free to be traveled. Whole private archives, closely guarded, that had been cracked open. And age-old ship graveyards discovered through fleet actions in the unknown regions. The new era is a golden age for those willing to bend academic morality, and there is no thief-archeologist like Theodora.

Yep, though mostly in police/security usage. A typical security droid has an extremely limited VI operating system. Its duty is straightforward and narrow, usually just guard a certain area and run a basic friend-or-foe program to halt any unauthorized access and fire off a set of pre-recorded voice commands to warn people coming too close to stay away from that area. They're equipped with irritant sprays and electro-shockers to force compliance if needed. When facing an opponent armed with a firearm any security droids will immediately resort to lethal antipersonnel weapons to take out the threat. If the situation turns violent rapidly enough, it may not even use its warnings. For military applications remote-operated air and/or ground drones are often used in supporting roles, mostly recon and light fire support all the way down to platoon level.

Great, time to invest in some grenades and EMPs. Or maybe make a lore post about Dunkidor using droids.

Hmmm... would you guys like a droid bay or something as a ship upgrade? So you can get three or four battle droids to help defend the ship from boardings and stuff?

That could work, also have the ability to have droid crew members. Depending on model than can be cheaper than standard crew memembers but are good meat shields. I know Clan Van could use some.

Droid crew members would be a bit odd in a way since they don't have any form of sentience. That's only for AI and to have AI would need a Lattice Box that needs a fuckton of supporting systems that can't fit in a moveable frame. Plus, the Digiplague will quickly fry the Lattice Box as well.

Shit, that's true. Well since I'm gonna be helping you with knocking pirate scum and trying to keep you safe in politics, I will need to find some more ducks in Port Victory or outside of the Noctis' Gozul District.
