Context

The year is 1986. The soviet economy is struggling under the immense funding of the military and space exploration. The Cold War, ever since the placing of Pershing missiles along the Rhine, and the Soviet conquest of Mongolia and Northern Afghanistan, has reached a boiling point. Nuclear Attack drills are mandatory in every building on the planet. Bunkers 10 feet deep have been dug into the earth for every house in every building on earth. The Soviets desperately try to develop a way to match the Los Angeles and Ohio submarines of the USA. The Soviets couldn’t match them, and decided to put all their efforts into a super ship, the USSRS Narodnyy Soyuz was born.

The United States, shocked, by the mere 8 month construction span of the ship, launch a program for their own “Missile Dreadnaught”, the USS Monitor (BBG-1). The ship is named after the ship that revolutionized shipbuilding with iron.

The USN beat the USSR in construction time, in 6 months and 27 days, but not before the USSR and the eastern bloc had increased their military threefold, and invaded West Germany. Within 3 weeks before the keel of the Monitor was finished, West Germany had fallen. 3 months later, Norway and Belgium and fallen, forcing over 500,000 men (combined on both fronts) we’re forced to evacuate from New Amsterdam and Oslo, before both nations fully fell. Austria was attacked, allowing paratroopers to jump through the alps and take Italian coastline, allowing ports to be set up, and landing of troops commenced. France stood all alone on the frontlines, as the UK was bombed 10x harder with 50x more bombs than The Blitz. Pershing missiles were desperately launched, but the nuclear tips weren’t detonated, instead acting as a dirty bomb, thus led to stalemate. Eastern Bloc and NATO casualties continue to go higher and higher and higher, and both sides realized that control of the seas was what was needed to win the war.

Rules
1. To enter, you must submit a ship, either one of the above stated, or any ship from the era (1987) You must also choose a nation, USSR or USA.
2. Must be done from 3rd Person, for optimal RP and experience (ex. “The ship would do a 90 degree turn”, rather than “The captain orders the ship to a 90 degree turn”)
3. You cannot sink player ships in 1 paragraph of RP. It will take multiple, but the more damaged the ship is, the easier to sink. Be advised: The smaller your ship, the easier it is for big ships to sink it, and for carriers, if your flight deck is damaged, your done.
4. 1 1/2 hour cool down for RP, to prevent spam.
5. Ships, if they run out of ammo, must go to port to rearm. It is also advised to go to port for repairs (1 Paragraph, separate from main RP, as with rearmament)
6. Stalling until 1991 (I will change the year every once and a while) won’t work, because in this universe, the USSR doesn’t collapse in 1991.
7. Battles between players will have a shorter cool down (45 minutes).
8. Have fun!

I'm gonna go for a lesser role, i feel I'd be a terrible captain for the Monitor :)
I will be applying for a (self-named) modernized Worcester-class all-gun cruiser, the USS Concord.
It is going to basically the Worcester, but the back half of the ship is devoted to missiles.

You should wait for more people to join before starting the RP. Maybe have a minimum amount of people to join before the RP starts, like 5 or something?

Sep. 23, 1987
Shortly after war was declared, the USSRS Narodnyy Soyuz would begin a trek through the Baltic Sea, using missiles to bombard northern cities and ports, though missiles are mainly reserved for anti ship use, meaning only 3 missiles hit their targets, mostly ports. It would then sail along the coast of Norway, using missiles, again, to keep ships at anchor for repairs, but by no means sinking them.

Sep. 26, 1987, somewhere near Bergen
Shortly after the bombardments are finished, HMS Invincible, a veteran of the Falklands (International Policing Action) War, and was going to be decommissioned until the wars start. The ship would suffer multiple hits from Granit’s, sustaining heavy damage, and deeming the flight deck inoperable. This would allow Narodyy to close in for the kill, launching another 3 Granits. However, ship SAM systems shoot down the missiles, and makeshift launch systems, using planes to launch them, though not launching the planes, forces the ship to a farther range away from the Invincible

expect 1 more RP where I sink it

USS Concord, Sep. 7 1987
The war in Europe rages on. The US government begins to deploy their ships in Europe. The USS Concord, a missile cruiser commissioned several years after WW2, was among the first ships sent. The ship was a specimen of a WW2 design, built off a Worcester-class. The Concord would arrive in Britain in the morning of the 11th.

USS Concord, Sep. 26 1987
Emergency deployment of USN ships to the British Isles has been... slower than desirable. Britain was already having trouble keeping up after WW2, and now this war was just making things worse. The Concord would depart Belfast early in the morning to join a fleet, with its flagship being the HMS Illustrious, an Invincible-class carrier. This fleet would make its way up to Scapa Flow, and then head further northeast to assist the Invincible itself.

11:37 AM
Reports have come in that the Invincible and her task force are under attack from missiles. The Illustrious changes course slightly to get by Scapa Flow. Concord and other ships supporting the Illustrious follow suit. There was no stopping now, especially as an allied ship was under attack.

Note - Since we don't have many players, I used the Illustrious as a sort of jump-point for this message.

USSRS Narodnyy Soyuz, Sep. 26, 1987
9:58 PM
The Narodnyy would begin to close in, using steam to throw off the aim of the missiles from the Invincible. It doesn’t take long for a Granit and 2 torpedos to send her to the bottom. However, before she sinks, 3 Harriers take off with ATGM, the minuscule among reserved for landing forces. 2 are shot down, and the last fires only 1 before it crashes into the ships bow. All 1,000 crew, and 34 British Marines acting as police died.
3
VLS systems are damaged, and another 1 beyond repair (at sea, at least). The ship then picks up another RADAR contact.

USSRS Narodnyy Soyuz, Sep. 26, 1987
10:23 PM

A few minutes after the engagement with Invincible, 3 RADAR contacts are detected at a bearing of 274 degrees south, with 2 resembling HMS Illustrious, and the other being type 22 Frigate HMS Boxer, and a third being identified as an old Worcester class AA cruiser, but it is quickly discarded as it is superbly outdated, from what the captain knows (he has no idea about the missiles). The Narodnyy would launch 3 Granit missiles, 2 at the Illustrious, and 1 at the Boxer. The boxer quickly goes off, as nothing of that size could sustain a hit from a Granit, nicknamed, I kid you not, “Shipwreck”. The Illustrious fares better, and manages to limp away to a group of Whales, confusing the Narodnyy’s RADAR. She then steams north to try and get repairs in Murmansk

OTHER NEWS:
EUPRPE: Of the 500,000 allied soldiers trapped in the Netherlands and Oslo, only 45,900 escape. All heavy equipment was forced to be left behind, and the stalemate shows no results in France and Italy.

ASIA: North Korea, with support of China and the Soviet Union, would manage to land behind the DMZ, and flank the forces there, forcing the South Korean army to fall back to better defensive positions, abandoning Seoul altogether.

AFRICA: h e l l.

it’s just a free for all

Middle East: Israel manages to hold against Jordan, Palestine and Lebanon, but with no US support, as it’s WW3, how long will the Allies’ foothold in the Middle East last?

USS Concord, Sep. 26 1987
16:44, The western-central North Sea
The Invincible has been marked down as... sunk, with the last communication being over an hour ago. This was bad news, but it wasn't over yet. A radar contact has been noted a few hundred miles away, and incoming missiles have been detected.

16:51
The USS Concord begins firing off its SAM systems, and the Illustrious does the same. Soon after, the Concord's 3 available CIWS mounts begin firing. One of the fired Granit's are nailed by an RIM missile from the Concord, while the other one narrowly misses. The surviving Granit's make it by the spray of CIWS fire, with one reducing the Boxer, an escorting ship, to complete scrap. The Illustrious is facing moderate damage to her starboard side and fires, though it isn't severe.

17:00
The Concord and Illustrious lose radar contact, and make a cautious retreat southward. The fires on the Illustrious have been put out, now showing a gaping hole in the side of the ship. The Concord couldn't have possibly retaliated, not having the range on its missiles. The Illustrious prepared a couple of attack planes, though it wasn't worth it to go after a target that's already long-gone.

The Narodnyy, after deeming a ship sunk (boxer), decides to finish the work. It would fire 12 Granits, as a last hurrah against the dim RADAR contact, before it heads to port for repairs and rearmament, overwhelming enemy CIWS and SAM systems, and hitting the Illustrious twice, blowing up the planes on deck and hangars, blowing up 90% of the Illustrious’s plane armaments, surviving, but is so crippled is forced to be scuttled

Sep 29, 1987
Finally, Narodnyy makes it back to Murmansk, repairing some VLS systems, and replacing some steel damaged by the harrier. For extra support, it is given support by USSRS Za Pobedu, originally the Indian Ranvir, seized in port, and USSRS Ryanyy and USSRS Pytlivyy, before setting sail against United Sates ships heading to the battered, navy-less UK (it’s last ships were just sunk), near Ireland, unknowingly starting the biggest ship 1v1 in history.

Just before the contact goes out of sight, the Concord detects incoming missiles on its air-search radar. Her SAM systems begin firing off as soon as they are within range. She is able to launch 2 salvos of her RIM-67 missiles, all of which manage to hit the incoming Granits (fortunately). Alongside this, another one is focused and shot down by the Concord's CIWS. Unfortunately, she could not stop the other 7 closing missiles in time, all of which slam into the portside stern and midsection of the Illustrious. She is able to barely maintain power, though it was bound to be a total loss. The Concord pulls along the side of the Illustrious, and takes on the many sailors, alongside a rendezvouing support ship RFA Engadine.

USS Concord, Portsmouth, 19:24
The Concord, and Engadine arrive in Portsmouth by 19:24. Illustrious was unfortunately scuttled by the Concord, and the Boxer went from now to then in a matter of seconds. The Concord took minor damage, mostly from small pieces of shrapnel flying off the Illustrious, but is otherwise unscathed. The Concord would begin making her way over to the Devonport naval base by the morning.

Sep. 28, 1987
6:30, 146 miles northwest of the coast of Scotland
The Narodnyy is minding its own business with its task force, raiding UK Naval ports, sinking convoys, dealing with French and Spanish frigates, when all of the sudden, a naval contact, similar in size to the Narodnyy, would pop up on the RADAR, with 2 escorting vessels. Trying to tie the ship to an existing contact, it is remembered: US Navy battleships were positioned for coastal defense, so only one thing in the ocean is that big other than us:
USS Monitor.

7:45
After devising a plan, the captain orders 15 Granits to go off and do as much damage as possible. No way will a quarter of them hit, and no way will a quarter of them sink it, but it is to disable the ship as much as possible. The Superstructure, main gun, Peashooters, and 27 VLS systems are damaged, when only 9 of them could be shot down by CIWS, which is also crippled. The rest of the task force is dealing with escorting Oliver Harry’s, so, there’s a desperate cry from the Monitor for assistance

USS Concord, Sep. 28 1987, Devonport
The call is heard. The Concord begins its travel north to support the Monitor. She begins the travel early, though it is still going to take hours to arrive. The ship leaves Devonport at 09:00, and the expected arrival time is at around 14:50 at best.

IC Post
USS Kidd, Sep. 28 1987
The Kidd was 30 miles west of the Monitor when it heard the request for support. The ship was in a small support group consisting of 9 vessels, all of which were following the Monitor. 3 attack ships of this group, the USS Kidd and another 2 DDG's split off and rushed to the Monitor. The rest of the support group turned southeast.

08:25
The Kidd and the other destroyer enter radar range, detecting a large ship similar to the Monitor. The Soyuz was attacking. They move into the portside flanks of the Monitor, opposite of the 2 escorting OHP-class frigates. The other escorting frigates were likely dealing with other Soviet ships in the area.
09:00
After making a quick plan with the Monitor, the Kidd fires off her Harpoon missiles at the Soyuz, with one of the other destroyers following suit shortly after. With 16 missiles now heading for the target, it is a question of whether or not all the missiles will make it through.

USS Concord, Sep. 28, 1987
09:55
The Concord is now just passing the Isle of Man. The ship was making quick ground, though her captain feels she is too far away to be of any help, and that the Monitor is already being supported.

OOC Note:
It'd be preferable if 3 or 4 missiles made it through, though its fine if only 1 gets by. Any amount of damage helps.
Please, do tell me if this is overkill. I imagine it isn't because of how big the Narodnyy Soyuz is, but it is just my view.

OOC: it’s not overkill, but it is a tad much

IC
Sep. 28, 1987
With 16 Missiles heading for the Narodnyy, it would immediately start to maneuver, with SAM systems and CIWS copycats blazing. 3 Missiles make it through, but harpoons aren’t terribly large. Even so, it’s enough to severely damage the ship. It would immediately order a response of 30 Granits (8 against Kidd, 20 against the other 2) against the enemy task force, to try and overwhelm their defenses. It then orders 45 Striker missiles to try and damage the propulsion of the Monitor.

Current death toll:
USSR: 247
USA: 453

What’s happening with the rest of the Soviet task force:
Ryanyy is sunk, but so are the OHP class frigates. Za Pobedu and Pytlivyy then engage the other 3 Ships, launching another 15 Strikers against the task force, combined.
Current death toll: USSR: 798
USA: 821 (80 survived, but they were executed bc Soviets)

Current War Situation:
Israel: Fallen
Western Front: Stalemate
India: Stalemate
Japan: Fallen
Korea: Fallen
Philippines: Fallen
Australia: Battered
UK: Battered
Canada: Landings on northernmost islands against them
Greece: Fallen
As bleak as the war situation is, only 3,893,000 died, and most communist countries in Africa and the Americas have fallen.
DEFCON, 1.5. Nuclear strikes permitted for strikes on strategic (factories, ports) locations with warheads limited to 650 Kilotons, and for naval combat (only USSR ships tend to be equipped, which is what US planners, when stating the DEFCONs criteria, overlooked.

OOC Note:
You're sending 78 missiles at me... yikes. I did some research before this post, and, well, The US isn't a force to be pushed around.
The Monitor should've already known the Soyuz was incoming, and could prepare for a defense against the Soviet attack. Either her captain is slacking or something else happened.
US damage control is crazy, and, even without, US ships are very resilient, able to take extreme damage and still survive (see - USS Laffey (DD-724), and USS America (CV-66)). It is likely that the Monitor would have most systems back online within a few hours.
The best the Soviets could do was wait in port while the water lines on their ship froze, and watch as their floating drydock carves a hole in the deck.
I refuse to place the ship I am using in the first paragraph, seeing as I am using multiple ships that aren't applied for. I can't really do much with just the Kidd by itself.
I plan on having the Monitor begin attacking the Soyuz on my next post.
In that case, I wish to officially apply for usage of the USS Monitor. Nobody else has joined this RP, so I don't see a problem with me using it.
I can increase the amount of missiles made through or the amount of damage if required. I feel like 19 missiles going through is reasonable with the amount of AA on American ships and the fact you're firing into 6 battle-ready warships. You're the OP, its your call.

Sep. 28, 1987
10:10
The Monitor is already being escorted out of the combat zone, though it easily outspeeds its escorts, hosting a nuclear reactor. Air search radars on the ships in the group are going wild, and there are closing surface targets, now within 60 miles. The Kidd launches its SAM systems first, following the aft end of the Monitor within 500 yards. Soon after, all the SAM systems are running. The Monitor had time to repair some of its missiles, though the CIWS couldn't get fixed until they reached a friendly port. Guns blazing, missiles firing, a glorious sight. Through all of the chaos, 19 missiles managed to make it through, 5 Granits and 14 strikers.
Damage Report
The USS Kidd took 2 Granit missiles, resulting in heavy damage to the starboard-side aft helicopter deck and hangar. Both helicopters carried onboard decimated, with no chance of repair. Aftward Mk. 26 launcher damaged by shrapnel, and aftward Phalanx CIWS destroyed.
Spruance-class USS O'Bannon took a single Granit, and 2 strikers. Aftward 5-inch gun damaged beyond all repair, as well as a gaping hole on the port side, fortunately above water. Likely propulsion damage.
OHP-class USS Boone, taking a stray Striker missile to the funnel. Propulsion performance impacted slightly.
Monitor-class USS Monitor, 11 Strikers and 2 Granits impacted the ship. Granits caused severe damage to aft VLS launchers, as well as damaging and destroying SAM systems. Minor damage to propulsion systems from shock. Damage control prevented aft fires from spreading to the other launchers. 1 Striker was shot down before hitting the superstructure, causing light shrapnel damage. All other Strikers directly hit in various areas around the midsection of the ship. Superstructure moderately damaged, with holes dotting both sides. Minor damage to hull from 3 Strikers.

10:53
After regaining their bearings, the group take a turn for the southwest, to join up with the previously mentioned support group, though not before beginning a plan for a retaliatory attack.

USS Concord, 110 miles south of the engagement zone.
The Concord is now leaving UK oceanic territory. A few minutes after, 2 enemy warships are spotted on radar, potentially the Pobedu and the Ptylivyy. Her captain turns the ship westward not wanting to force an engagement with 2 ships at least 10 years younger than her, despite being better-armed.

OOC: the Soviets always have to outdo the americans, and yes, you can have the Monitor

Sep. 28, 1987
With considerable damage, the Narodnyy can’t really launch anymore missiles, and won’t the hits to the aft, it’s propulsion is done for, the Pobedu and Pytlivyy tow the ship back to port, however firing another 5 strikers at the Kidd to do at least something.

Oct. 1, 1987
Soviet high command, frustrated with lack of progress on the seas, would decide that commerce raiding and a morale hitter are the most important to end the war, already having claimed 14,782,000 men, on the French front alone. Then, the Soviets would take the Narodnyy, and say: “Modern I-400”. The reconstruction will rake a couple months (like 9) but the overall concept is completely diffrent. The ship would receive complete reconstruction, with the only part remaining the same being the superstructure, with brand new windows so it can submerge. It also has a retractable deck and 4 in. Depleted uranium elevator to launch 5 Yak-38 VTOL aircraft, reconfigured with 2 strikers on the wing each. It then has launchers for 65 Granits and 175 Strikers, along with 8 nuclear tipped Granits (500 Kilotons). Stat card:
818 ft. 3 in. Long
101 ft. 7 in. Wide
29 ft. Draft
Tonnage: 78,900 standard tons (because of sheer size, hangar space, equipment, and good amount of armor for a sub.)
Speed: 41 kts surfaced, 33 kts submerged (a more efficient and large reactor was placed to increase range and speed.)

you can do something similar if you want
Side note: Sea action has, for the most part, halter, because now nobody knows where the soviet navy is or what is planning or what is doing, same vice versa, as the casualties rack up.

OOC Note:
This is beginning to turn into a nation simulator at this point, and we don't really want that.
So I'm going to only put a small mention of a secret US super-submarine project in the IC part. I'll add the stats of "Project SSSBN-1," or just "Project Holland" at a later date. She will appear like an enlarged Los-Angeles, but with the tower a little further back. She won't carry planes, but she'll definitely have the best anti-air defense and missile attack of a sub.
It isn't efficient to reconstruct an entire ship to turn it into a submarine. You have to rearrange and replace everything, and even then it wouldn't work. At that point it would just be cheaper and take much less time to build a large submarine from scratch. A semi-submersible, though, could work.
The US at this point don't know about the Narodnyy's conversion, so it'll probably just be like: "Hey, why don't we outdo the Sovs by making a biiiiig submarine?"
I will keep the Kidd as an applied ship, though I won't play with it for a while.
The cool advantage of using a US ship is that you actually can realistically get repaired. The Soviets had a diminishing economy at this point, and would have to work very hard to keep up. Not paying your workers leads to rebellion, though I'm sure the Soviet army would deal with them easily.
I'm marking the Concord down as an actual threat because she hasn't done much yet, and it'll hopefully progress the story.

IC Part:
USS Monitor Fleet, Oct. 5, 1987
The fleet has returned home, and the Monitor had earned her first battle scars. She would, at once, be put into drydock at the Brooklyn Naval Yard for repairs. Her escorting ships would be of secondary priority, with only severe damage being repaired, as well as gun replacements. The Monitor lays next to the Iowa, and an, as-of-yet, unknown second super-ship project. Her repairs would take 2 weeks at most, though the important thing was that almost every ship made it out.

USS Concord, Oct. 3, 1987, the Canadian Islands
The Concord has joined a naval defense (with at least 11 other ships, stationed at various Canadian ports) against the invading Russian soldiers in northern Canada, warding off supply ships and protecting the area from a mass invasion. There wasn't any way the Soviet Northern Fleet would stand a chance against the large defense without wasting a lot of money and getting a lot of reinforcements. The Concord is noted as a proper threat for the first time by a Russian transport ship, with a sailor (carrying binoculars) on said ship drawing what he saw the Concord to appear as.

The whole thing isn’t supposed to be efficient, which is why it’s taking 9 months and 23 days. There’s another part of the RP that’ll help you win with this sub, because of something, but, that’s a surprise for later

After the projects approval, the captain of the Narodnyy would be put onto USSRS Pytor Velikiy, with an escort of USSRS November, (outdated, but fine for escort). The ships would be assigned to escorting convoys to the northern Canadian island landings, already having several Akula class and Kanin class destroyers. No action is seen, yet. However, the captain himself told the group to be ready for anything

War Situation:
Same as usual. However, some advances are being made on the italian front, and NATO has begun the invasion of China through heavily defended Hong Kong
