Same with Egypt giving Britain the middle finger after WW2 in this RP.

It would give you less leeway in local monetary policy. Like, if you have two currencies oegged against the Franc, you could devalue one, while keeping the other steady. If it’s one currency, all of French Africa wil face the same monetary policy, even if they don’t have the same inflation rate.

Conversely, if you announce that one of the currencies is going to vanish, then wealthy speculators will likely start buying up one currency to make a quick buck.

History:The Aborigine Republic of North Australia was founded in 1949 as a result of dissatisfaction with the Australian Commonwealth. Australia had been neglecting Aborigine rights for many years , since the 19th century. This prompted several separatist factions to come up and fight against the Australian Government forces , Laurent Goonagulla , the current North Australian president , was a member of one faction that fought for Aborigine independence. In the year 1949 , the Australians planned a referendum for Aborigine independence which was in favour by 99.7% votes , which paved the way for secession of North Australia from the rest of Australia. The country faces a bleak future as it's trade relations are not well.
RP Example(s): President Laurent Goonagulla has plans to modernise the city of Perth to accommodate the growing population. Darwin has seen a population rise over the past 5 years , and new illegal settlements have started coming up in the Northern parts of the Capital Darwin. To accommodate the growing urban population , the second largest city of Perth will be planned accordingly and new facilities for immigrants shall come up in Perth. The response has been overall satisfying for this issue.

We are looking for someone to join as KMT China. Would you like to join as the whole of China instead? :)

As for Manchuria, unfortunately, I cannot accept an independent Manchuria since that would contrast with the OP which clearly states that China has been unified under KMT and is a rising power in East Asia.

I guess I'll claim Syria and Lebanon in a single state - app will be coming up either tonight or tomorrow, time permitting.

Will be reserving Syria and Lebanon for you. :)

Do remember that in this timeline the Axis won WWII and there is a communist revolution in Iran and Iraq, so this affects your history.

I'm gonna be real with you Algebra. Are you sure you want to play as China? This is a very important country to play as.. Looking at your app does not give me confidence.

I feel like China would prove itself too difficult to handle for a newcomer like you

Application Completed!

APPLICATION
NS Name: Yaruqo
RP Name: The Hashemite Kingdom of Syria and the Levant (also referred to simply as "Syria")
Flag: Flag of the Hashemite Kingdom of Syria and the Levant
Capital: Damascus
Territory: Syria and Lebanon
Population: 5,699,726

Official Language(s): Arabic; French, Syriac, Armenian, and Kurdish are recognized languages
Ethnic Breakdown: The last time a census has been conducted on the grounds of ethnicity for the former Lebanese and Syrian French Mandates was in the 1930s. Since then, no census has been collected on ethnic grounds, though the Kingdom boasts a healthy diversity, with a supposed Arab majority and Kurdish, Levantine, and Assyrian/Syriac minorities.
Religious Breakdown: Sunni Muslims - 58.3%; Christians* - 23.2%; Alawites - 8.2%; Shi'ite Muslims - 4.6%; Druze - 3.9%; Jews - 0.78%; Yazidi - 0.06%
*The largest Christian groups are the Greek Orthodox, Greek Catholic, and Maronite denominations

Type of Government: Unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy
Head of State: King Faisal bin Ghazi bin Faisal bin Hussein bin Ali, aka King Faisal II (formerly of both the Kingdom of Syria and the Levant and the Kingdom of Iraq, now solely king of Syria and the Levant)
Head of Government: Prime Minister Akram Al-Hourani
Legislature: Constituent Assembly - Unicameral; 190 seats, with some seats reserved for religious minorities
Party in Power: The Arab Socialist Party is, technically, the largest political party within the Constituent Assembly. However, a large number of independent deputies (with supposed ties to the Muslim Brotherhood) and the center-right People's Party also hold a large number of seats, and cannot be ignored.
National Issues:
Between a Rock and a Hard Place - The Hashemite Kingdom of Syria and the Levant has found itself in a precarious position. The Syrians and Lebanese that make up the kingdom's population are not unfamiliar with this situation, having been jostled around by Ottomans, the French with their colonial mandate, and the Vichy regime, but the stakes are higher in 1952. With the rise of a socialist party (whose leader has pan-Arabist sympathies), Syria could find itself as a rival against the encroachments of Iran - both the teenaged king and this prime minister view the annexation of Arab Iraq by the Persian Iranians to be a mistake that must be corrected, although their particular reasons might vary - and could become the dominant Arab power in the region. However, with the Free French, the Greater German Reich, and the United States eyeing the Middle East, one wrong step could endanger the young kingdom.
The Young King - Faisal II was only three years old when his father, King Ghazi, died in a mysterious car accident in 1939. Before the royal family's exodus from Iraq in 1947, the young king had his uncle serving as his regent. Now, in the more cosmopolitan Syria and the Levant, the conditions of his regency have changed, and unlike Iraq, where the Hashemites were viewed as foreigners, the Hashemites were welcomed back with open arms (and with the hope that they'd prove a stabilizing influence). King Faisal will reach maturity in 1953, but from there, who knows how the king will lead his people? Will he stay true to the remarkably democratic constitution and its traditions...or will he try to seize power? No one but the king knows.
Economic Inequality - While Syria and Lebanon had been substantially better developed than, say, neighboring Iraq, the benefits of that development rested mostly with the landowners and upper echelons of the nation's ruling classes. Riding on a wave of discontent with this status quo, the new government aims to address the widening gap through aggressive reforms and investments in welfare and education. But of course, it all comes down to priorities: if the government prioritizes these domestic issues, it will guarantee success in the long-term, but it could mean sacrifices in the military, which would be crucial in a potential reconquest of Arabic lands in the Ottoman state and Iraq. And of course, while these reforms would prove popular with the common people, those who have held power and, subsequently, control of the nation's riches for decades under the Ottomans, the Mandate, and Vichy regime would staunchly oppose these reforms if they went "too far."
Public Goals: Economic reform, investment in the people's welfare, and the national defense of the kingdom.

Air Force: 50 planes, most of which were from the pre-WWII period. The Syrian Air Force is equipped with 7 Supermarine Spitfire Mk 22s and 3 de Havilland Chipmunk basic trainers that were purchased from the United Kingdom. Additional requisition attempts are ongoing.

Naval Forces: A handful of French ships, mostly patrol vessels, with additional requisition attempts of more substantial naval craft ongoing.

Other Military Information: The Hashemite armed forces are small compared to neighboring Iran, a fact resulting from its long stint under France's colonial thumb. 10 of their planes are considered "modern", hailing from the World War II generation. Attempts to expand the army have been slowed by corruption within the leadership of the armed forces.

History: Shortly after the end of WWI, the short-lived Arab Kingdom of Syria, led by King Faisal I, declared its independence from France in 1919. As history IRL shows, the kingdom was crushed by the French in 1920, who reasserted themselves and their mandate on Syria, expelled Faisal I, and divided Syria and Lebanon into smaller divisions to better administer their colonial possessions. It would ultimately be a futile attempt, as rebellions and civil unrest would plague the French up to 1936, when the Viénot Accords were signed by both parties on September 9th, 1936, guaranteeing the independence of Syria, the incorporation of previously autonomous Druze and Alawite regions into Syria, its territorial integrity, and the incorporation of the French Mandate of Lebanon into the new Republic of Syria. For a while, all seemed well. But then, France declared war on Germany in 1939, and when the time came to ratify the treaty, the French legislature refused to do so. The Free French remnants would argue that their line of thinking was that the Germans might attempt to outflank the Allies through an independent Syria, but the Syrians would claim that the decision to go back on their promises of ratification was a product of Western imperialism. Regardless of the rationale, the French certainly did not attempt to make things better after they had announced the deferment of independence until after the war. In June 1939, the Syrian region of Alexandretta was ceded to the Ottomans by the French, prompting further unrest against French rule. Unsatisfied with the president's failure to govern the republic and secure its independence, Prime Minister Faris al-Khoury worked behind the scenes and within the Constituent Assembly to shake things up.

In neighboring Iraq, the descendant of Syria's first and only king, Faisal II, had just acceded to the Iraqi throne at three years of age. While al-Khoury was a staunch Syrian nationalist, opposed to the concept of pan-Arab nationalism that was starting to take hold of the region, he could not deny that Syria's prospects would improve if Iraq was closely tied to Syria. He went to Prince 'Abd al-Ilah, the boy king's uncle and regent, and offered a deal: Syria and Iraq would form a dual monarchy, with both kingdoms being ruled by the young Faisal, one supporting the other in times of need. Other than that, both kingdoms would remain independent, deciding their own domestic and foreign policies. For 'Abd al-Ilah, it was a deal too good to refuse. By June of 1940, as the French were beaten down by the invading Germans, the time was ripe for the two power players to make their moves. In Damascus, Prime Minister al-Khoury held a special session of the Constituent Assembly, presenting the proposed treaty with Iraq; in Baghdad, the regent pushed the treaty along, rankling Iraqi nationalists but unexpectedly winning approval from pan-Arab nationalists. While the Free French were too busy reforming in Africa, the British were still a threat, and this latest move could have endangered both Iraq and Syria, if the quick-thinking al-Khoury had not made diplomatic assurances that, in exchange for British recognition of the new treaty, the British and Allied forces could continue to station troops in Syria to fend off the Nazis. The Syrians, he offered, would even go the extra length and refuse to recognize the authority of the budding Vichy regime and its claims on Syria and Lebanon. Already on the back foot, the British government reluctantly agreed.

Throughout the Second World War, Syrians, Iraqis, Lebanese, and the Western Allies dedicated troops to warding off the Vichy presence in the Middle East, ultimately expelling them from the former French Mandate in July 1941. But victory here did not translate to victory elsewhere. In 1943, the British signed a peace treaty with the German Reich and, by extension, ceasing hostilities with Vichy France. The joint Syrian-Iraqi efforts were now at risk of being overturned. Both governments feared that their machinations resulted in a misstep that could, at best, see them return to colonial mandates, and at worst...well, there had been whispers about what the Germans were doing with Europe's Jews that did not inspire confidence.

Ultimately, they dodged a bullet. The new National Republic of France was too focused on rebuilding its mainland possessions and crushing resistance, and the Free French were too focused on preparing for a reconquest of France proper and supporting the aforementioned resistance. On September 17, 1943, Syria had formally declared its independence and implemented the Viénot Accords, incorporating Lebanon into the new dual monarchy, the United Hashemite Kingdom of Iraq, Syria and the Levant. In 1947, Faisal II and his family fled Iraq for the safety of Damascus. As a result of the move, Crown Prince 'Abd al-Ilah was forced down as regent. Instead, a new regency council consisting of Syrian and Lebanese citizens would steer the ship of state, though most power continued to remain in the hands of Prime Minister Faris al-Khoury. But even the father of the nation could not stall the rising sentiments of pan-Arabism and socialism that were gripping his country. In the 1949 elections, the Arab Socialist Party led by Akram Al-Hourani, a lawyer from Hama who had an astute record as an advocate for social justice and pan-Arab nationalist sympathies, won a plurality of seats in the Constituent Assembly, with Faris al-Khoury's center-right People's Party coming in second. After a period of negotiation, a governing coalition of various secularist, leftist, and center-left parties was formed, led by the Arab Socialist Party. In the two years since the election, Prime Minister Al-Hourani has slowly balanced between preparing the young Faisal II for when he reaches maturity in a year, reforming the economy, and delicately guiding Syria through the new geopolitical world of international and regional politics that has risen from the ashes of the Second World War.
