I mean, Smith isn't going to pursue relations with the Reich, for both "It's the Nazis" and political reasons (About 45-55% of Rhodesian Whites are only there because they fled from the Reich), so at least I have that going for me. Also, I wouldn't necessarily call it a coup, as it's through perfectly legal means (The RF manages to flip two URP Representatives, giving them the majority), and they're looking for a peaceful settlement with Britain. So at least I have that going for me.

None of that means that it won't be exceptionally embarrassing for the U.S. to publicly praise Huggins' reforms in front of the entire world, and then immediately have Huggins booted from power and his reforms reversed. Truman will quite understandably want to repair that damage as efficiently as possible. A superpower deciding to invest itself in your domestic affairs is a dangerous thing, after all.

Exactly. The U.S. will back Egypt in any contest over control of the Canal. It will just expect Egypt to support some American priorities in return: most likely free access for all merchant shipping in peacetime, free access to the Canal for the U.S. Navy, and closure of the Canal to Axis forces in the event of a conflict. The U.S. doesn't need to control the canal; it just needs to make sure that Rome and Berlin don't control it. In that sense, American and Egyptian interests are aligned.

And no one in the Double V Campaign, in this timeline, wants to run the political risk of associating with Gandhi. As inspirational as they find him, they don't want to be accused of "having friends in common with Adolf." So probably the U.S. ambassador to India will attend and say a few polite words, and that will be all.
