Other Military Information:Iran provides military support to the Afghan government against Taliban and ISIS rebels. While the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran is still intense, it has become more friendly in nature.
History Changes (Subject to review and approval by OP and Co-OP):Same as IRL up til November 2002 when riots broke out over the government's support of Islamic terrorist groups around the world and the collapse of the Iranian economy due to western sanctions. The riots started in Tehran but soon spread to every city in the country. While this was going on, Iranian military officers tired of what is happening to their country began gathering support. This continues into March of 2003 when their neighbor to the west Iraq is invaded by a coalition led by the United States leading to the overthrow of Suddam Hussein. This invasion distracted the Islamic regime in Tehran which was perfect for the coup leaders. In the wee hours of April 3rd, 2003, Iranian military officers launched a bloody military coup which quickly led to the capture or death of nearly every official loyal to the Supreme Leader and the President. This bloody predawn coup was considered the end of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the dawn of a new age in Iran. The new ruling military council closed Iran's borders and began purging anyone who was loyal to the previous regime. Each person was questioned to see how loyal they were to the old government and if they signed a document denouncing the old regime, they would be free to leave but if they refuse then they would be executed by firing squad. On April 3rd, 2004, the Iranian provisional government reopen its borders to world and reached out to the United States and its allies for the ending of the sanctions. That came 2 months later on June 10th which was a joyful day for the Iranian people. With that task accomplished, the provisional government turned to creating a new constitution for Iran. A constitutional convention was assembled in Tehran with representatives from all over Iran. Finally on January 18th, 2005, the new Constitution was released to people of Iran and the world. The new Iranian Constitution is based almost entirely on the United States Constitution with the differences being 2 6 year term limit for president and a complete and total assurance of the peoples right to bear arms with exceptions being explosive weapons and heavy weapons such as armored vehicles and military aircraft. In this world, Iran has good relations with Russia, India, China and the United States.

This history doesn't really work. The Iranian Armed Forces are largely supportive of the current regime and the government's policies. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is the organization that is largely responsible for equipping and training many terror groups supported by Iran.
Major protests in Iran didn't spring up until the General Elections of 2009, which were violently suppressed. The protests continued in 2011-2012 and 2017-2018, each time ending with no actual change in government. The early 2000s actually saw moderate electoral success for reformist parties, so protests were even more unlikely.
Well this is AH so lets say it did happen. I mean the USSR shouldn't exist either but it does.
