Because he never really 'loved' his son, he cared a lot for his daughter but she had given up her life of luxury to go fight/colonize the frontier. The only person who kept them together was Jack Tobias Wife, and now that she died, they just drifted apart.

Well, we are both imperial subjects at the moment. So probably nothing, though why you would want to so quickly alienate a potential ally, I have no idea.

I didn't necessarily mean hostilities. Just thought it would be an interesting plot point

Was your character serving 8 decades ago? If not it's even more unlikely that had met a general who yes is kinda a war hero, but he was not that popular as say the bastard son is. He was just a normal general, yeah he was a commoner with no noble background, but still an average general with nothing special about him.

Well no, but there was a news story about him in a somewhat popular Terran newspaper about him, also he became a general in his 40s.

Yeah he'll probably be better off sticking to Desephioa, the climate there is cooler as its further away from the star than the other two. He might be able to survive near the poles of Valliane as well.
