I still don't get why we need the name Dreadnought. If we're going for a supercapital battleship why not just name it a battleship?

If you're torn on deciding, the Venus idea especially piqued my interest. I feel like most folks (myself included) imagine economic power in sci fi settings as big industries or mining, rather than probably the far more important food supply.

Just combine the two, become a military business person (if that is allowed.)

Imperial Census

Name: Nizami Osman Turan Oğlu Kağan
Age: 62
Place of Birth: Kağanşehir (GJ 273b/Luyten's Star B)
Appearance: WIP
Occupation: 994th Kağan of the Turkic Confederation; Imperial Minister of Finance

Base of Power: The Turkic Confederation commonly: Turkish Nation (Türk Milleti)

"Our nation is the most noble among the stars, and our nation graces the stars with its presence.
How happy is he who says, 'I am a Turk'!"

Gazi Bayezid Turan Oğlu Kağan, 1st Kağan of the Turkic Confederation
The Turkish Nation, a proud and ancient polity spanning dozens of star systems near the edge of the Empire, traces its founding almost two thousand years ago on Terra. According to legend, the Turks were once masters of an empire that spanned most of ancient Terra (Earth), yet over the course of a millenium this empire has been so degraded and degenerated that "savages" (other ancient Terran empires) nearly destroyed the Turkish nation completely. However by the brilliant leadership of Gazi Kemal Atatürk - Father of the Turks - the nation was able to avoid destruction and strike back against the states seeking to destroy them. A hundred years later, the Turkish State founded by Atatürk finally reunited again with the other Turkish realms in ancient Terra (whose names are commemorated in the Turkic Confederation's main planetary systems - Azerbaycan, Turkmenistan, Qazaqstan, and others) when mankind began to explore the stars. The Turkish nation, in search of a foothold among the stars, sent explorers and conquerors towards distant space.

One of the so-called Great Conquerors (Büyük Fatih), Suleyman Gazi, established a foothold for the Turkish Nation at Procyon; or Rumeysa as it was called by the ancient Turks. The binary system of Procyon favors the establishment of massive space stations on the lagrange points of Procyon B's orbit. Procyon is also home to a vast abundance of minerals, both common and rare. Suleyman Gazi claimed Procyon for the Turkish nation. Within the first hundred years of Turkish settlement, the star had changed from a simple extraterrestrial outpost into a magnificent mining colony with a citadel to defend it. Eventually, many of the massive mining stations are converted into enormous stellar habitats belonging to various Turkic states.

Five hundred years of colonization and development made Procyon one of the largest industrial centers of Human space; as well as being one of its frontier settlements. At this point, the need to manage the abundant resources available in Procyon between all of the Turkic states became apparent. The five Turkic states of Procyon (the Kazakh, the Uzbek, the Turkmen, the Kyrgyz, the Azeri, and the Turkish) united to form the Turkish Confederation. Over the next millenium the Turkish Confederation would expand its borders considerably; most notably being the conquest of Luyten's Star, a red dwarf with a planet very similar to Terra suitable for human habitation. The Turkish Confederation directed massive amount of resources into transforming this planet into a new center of commerce and exploration, as no further Human colonies exist beyond this world - as well as terraforming the other planet that orbit Luyten's Star. The three premier systems of the Turkish Confederation, by the time of its annexation by the Terran Empire, are the Procyon system, Luyten's Star system, and Ross 614 system.

Hundreds of years later, however, the Turkic Confederation's independence would be threatened with the expansion of the Terran Empire. The Confederation's main rival Sirius, a similar industrial powerhouse, has thrown their weight behind the fledgling Terran superpower. Hostilities began when the Terran Empire delivered a round of diplomatic insults towards the Turkic Confederation. In response, the Confederation severed diplomatic ties with Terra. Alarmed by the Terran Empire's gradual expansion into its neighboring star systems, the Confederation began preparations for war. After a Terran ultimatum of submission was ignored by the Confederation, Terra declared war. The first clash between Terran forces and the Confederation occured in Wolf 359, where dozens of capital ships of Terra and the Confederation participated in the battle. It was largely regarded as a draw - with the Confederation suffering slightly higher casualties, but the battle made Confederation rulers fear the possibility of their destruction if war was allowed to continue. In the end, the Turkic Confederation finally submitted to Terran rule, with a condition: that they are granted vassal status, preserving the Confederation government intact. Subsequently, the Confederation became one of the Empire's largest and wealthiest vassal states. Turkic vessels formed components of the Imperial Navy and Turkic vassals patrolled the Empire, flying the Imperial flag as well as the Crescent and Star beneath.

The Turkic Confederation is a collection of five Turkish states united under a Federal system. The Kağan is an elected Monarch that exercises executive power over the Confederation as head of government. Legislative power is vested on the Büyük Millet Meclisi (Grand National Assembly), though in practice the legislature had became a mostly advisory body. It elects the new Kağan upon the death of the previous one. The current Kağan, Osman of the Turanid House, is one of the youngest Kağans to ever take office, having been elected at the age of 26 after the death of Murad Turan Oğlu, the previous Kağan and Osman's uncle.

Goals: Osman, as expected of an Imperial Minister, supported the Emperor's heir over his half-brother. He seeks to mold and control the Emperor's heir, being lazy and preoccupied with vanity. While the Imperial Court drowned in lavish celebrations of the Emperor's heir, Osman, and hopefully similar, like-minded individuals, would assume power behind the Throne and stabilize the Empire for good.

I agree. I think people often forget how important food production is for the functioning of a society, so those who grow it can wield a considerable amount of influence over others.

Sure. As for age, I aint going to be picky. If you rich it is possible to artificially extend your life beyond the norm. Most high class people probably regularly reach ages of 150.

Oh my character is going to have vaults, upon vaults of imperial currency plus gold and silver. But would that be allowed? Can I make my character EXTREMELY rich? Not as rich as the emperor is of course, but at least in the top 10 or 20 richest people? Also, could I give my military corporation its own military for Security and Protection of its own assets?

Imperial Census

Name: Lady Portia Weaver
Age: 53
Place of Birth: Lakshmi Planum, Venus
Appearance:
Image

Occupation: Governess of the Ishtar Company and Baroness of Cleopatra

Base of Power: Lady Portia is the Governess of the Ishtar Company, a holding company based on the Ishtar Terra continent, which owns approximately 30% of the surface of Venus through its various subsidiaries. Ishtar's main source of revenue is its subsidiary Ishtar Foods, which is turn divided into Ishtar Farms and Ishtar Aquaculture. Ishtar-branded wheat, rice, corn, potatoes, fish, and insects, farmed by indentured workers, comprise the majority of the food supply of the working class of Earth and the outer solar system. Ishtar Foods also produces luxury foodstuffs, including meat harvested from artificial animals engineered and copyrighted by Ishtar, for consumption by the nobility. Other subsidiaries of Ishtar include Ishtar Textiles, which farms cotton and silk rather than food crops, and Ishtar Agritech, which produces fertilizers, pesticides, and genetically-engineered organisms used by both Ishtar Foods and the other corporate farms of Venus.

Portia's family emerged from the ranks of Ishtar Textiles - Her grandmother was an indentured worker who weaved cotton, while her mother had a knack for design that allowed her to escape her miserable origins and become a tailor who designed clothing from genetically-engineered spider silk for fashionable nobles, granting her the connections necessary to secure a comfortable middle management position within Ishtar for her daughter, who in turn rose through the ranks over the course of two decades culminating in her obtaining control of the company.

The Ishtar Company, along with several other similar companies based in other regions of Venus, was founded by royal charter by Emperor Adam Ignis to complete the terraforming and settlement of Venus that had been halted during the Warring States period, in order to convert the planet into a breadbasket for the increasingly-infertile Earth, and for centuries afterwards the Imperial Throne retained a controlling interest in the company. However, Magnus the Golden and his successors slowly divested their shares in the Venusian charter companies in order to pay off various debts, and at present Ishtar operates as an essentially autonomous entity from the Empire.

The Ishtar Company is a member of an informal consortium consisting of the four most powerful Venusian charter companies - The Ishtar Company, the West Aphrodite Company, the East Aphrodite Company, and the Lada Company, collectively referred to as the "Four Sisters" - which collectively form a monopoly with a complete stranglehold on Earth's food supply. Ishtar - and therefore Portia - is the de facto leader of the Four Sisters, as the other companies are reliant on Ishtar-copyrighted genetically-modified crops and are generally unwilling to openly defy its will.

Portia is also technically minor nobility in her own right, having used her immense wealth to purchase the title of Lady and a deceptively humble-looking estate in the Maxwell mountains near where she grew up, in order to gain access to aristocratic social circles that would otherwise shun nouveau riche like her.
Goals: Portia is rather content with the current state of affairs between Ishtar and the Imperial Throne, and would prefer to keep things as they are, making her an ardent supporter of the current Emperor and his heir so long as they remain as apathetic to actual governance as their predecessors. Portia is also interested in expanding Ishtar's influence off-world, seeking to buy up the remaining farmland on Earth, purchase the loyalty of Imperial senators, and establish subsidiaries outside of Sol. Portia considers herself politically conservative, and is generally contemptuous of the peasantry from which her family emerged.

Op could I include that the Admiral is technically a minor noble or from a family with a long history of serving in the Imperial bureaucracy and military? Said family wouldn't be wealthy nor have a lot of power bit would have some connections that would allow for my character to achieve his position. With the current state of the Empire I believe it would be hard for most people without some sort of connections to achieve a really important position such as the Admiral of the Second Sol Defense Fleet.

My character is definitely not a Maoist. He's been influenced but I would say he's more of a pragmatist than an idealist like Mao.
