Once the storm was all over after breakfast Merlin put on a sheepskin hat, mittens, and cloak, and the three of them left to go to the monastery and talk to the monks.

Saoirse and Keegan stood in front, protecting the others. Keegan had drawn a large longsword from his back, while Saoirse and Kylie had drawn smaller swords. Gabija had grabbed a sling-staff and as she loaded a pebble that had a rune painted onto it, the rune slightly lighted up.
"Well, if you can keep your mount from eating our faces..." Saoirse answered, "speaking of faces, I'd like to see yours. Also - and I'm sure you don't hear this the first time - we are like skeptic when it comes to lone travelers of unusual appearance. And a small, black person on a big, white cat, that totally qualifies as unusual. I hope you don't mind if my witch checks you."
Gabija gave her a quick side-eye: "You sure?" but sighted and put away her sling. She took out two coins but none minted in the Ayrtican Kingdom nor any neighboring kingdom there had been. One was from copper, the other one from iron, about two fingers wide. They were not engraved but there were two runes one them, one on each. "It's a very simple divination spell, can you hold this one in one hand and this one," she said holding up the iron coin, "in the other hand so that I can see the symbol? Gauntlets are no problem." Gabija got ready to gently lob the coins over to Julia. She was not sure what Saoirse's plan was. They had talked about what runes Gabija knew that could help them discern whether possible traveling companions were trustworthy and the sorceress had answered that she knew a spell, that broke illusions - but did Saoirse think the armored girl on the panther was an illusion? If a mage - or monster - disguised their appearance, wouldn't they choose something less "unusual"? Maybe Saoirse just wanted to test, if Julia was trusting and judge from there, if she was also trustable.

"I'm Julia Lara, squire to the Knights of the Tower. Forgive my impoliteness... but I actually do mind. How can I be sure that you're not trying to bewitch a lone maiden here, and take advantage of her one way or the other?" She shot Gabija a quick glance, but ignored her and turned her face back towards Saoirse, and Keegan. "I'm sure you can understand why I have a reason to be sceptic as well."
