    Gender: F
    Age: 39
    Appearance:

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: They’re a well trained soldier from their extensive combat experience
    Weaknesses:

Backstory:
Born in a tribe Dhadusa Bhaisigneeth was embroiled into the standard affair of Inuv society and it’s tribal conflicts. During a Protectorate conflict Dhadusa partook in some looting while her unit was stationed near a bank with the rest of her squad. The squad was charged for their actions and Dhadusa was exiled.

She took to drifting from combat zone to combat zone avoiding the area controlled by her former tribe in a small mercenary brigade until they merged with a larger company operated by Ghoknape Shrerlusain focused on using armor.

She was a member of the infantry component of the company. During the battle of Ervina-4, Shrerlusain’s Lancers was scattered and disbanded after the company was smashed on Ervina-4 where it lost most of the company's strength during the fighting and it’s leadership was killed during the retreat from the system. The survivors met up and decided since they were unable to replace the armored vehicles and with the leadership dead, they disbanded the unit. Following the disbanding of the unit the survivors joined other mercenary companies, leading Dhadusa to join Orphan Company.

Also, I forgot to mention. They use a QR-24 as their basic military rifle. It's a bit more powerful than Ragon's standard rifle.

It still needs a bit of development. How do both of these mechanisms work?

Character Description
    Name: Marc de Thuin
    Species: Human
    Gender: Male
    Age: 37
    Appearance:
    Image

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: Marc is an exceptional shot, his skill with a rifle and, later, blaster tends to have him designated as a marksman in the squad. As a consequence, he has incredibly keen eyesight as well. Additionally, he has effective survival skills due to his military training.
Weaknesses: Marc is incredibly not fond of travelling in space, though he just bites his tongue whenever he has too. Additionally, he is still quite hesitant when it comes to trusting aliens or dealing with them, much preferring the company of other humans. Also gets annoyed when people call him French.

Backstory:
Marc was born in an unassuming family in Belgium, spending the majority of his youth in Thuin, which had hosted his family for many centuries. Life on Earth, however, never quite compared to the videos and propaganda sent back about life amongst the stars. To Marc's disappointment, Belgium's activities in space were minimal at best, so when he turned 18, he joined the French Foreign Legion, as France had acquired a number of extra-terrestrial colonies.

Almost immediately, Marc realise his mistake when he first left Earth to join some distant skirmish conflict in the outer colonies, hating the sensation of flying in space, the eternal scratching in the back of his mind that only a few centimetres of material stopped them from explosive decompression, so making landfall to fight was a significant wash of relief. From first joining at 18 to the first appearance of the Ragon, he spent in the furthest colonies of France, occasionally fighting rebellions or enforcing martial law.

He escape the destruction of the outer colonies as he had been recalled to Earth to be awarded a medal for bravery, news didn't reach him of the colonies vanishing until he had alreay reached Earth and was too far to be of use. He fought in the initial landings of the Ragon, however it was becoming increasingly clear that they wouldn't survive for long, so he vanished into the European countryside, evading the Ragon and doing his best to document what they were doing. He survived for years in this way, cherishing whatever moments he had when he encountered fellow survivors, frequently sharing details about things he'd seen and warning people about which areas of the Europe were not safe to go to.

The arrival of the Federation was a conflicting moments for him, as he considered the possibility that the Federation were there to destroy them, but their attacks upon the Ragon convinced him otherwise, so he reluctantly went with them when they began evacuating the surviving humans, his reluctance nearly causing him to miss the shuttle.

Arriving on Greskia, he became homeless for a few years, working whatever odd jobs he could. The arrival of the Ragon on Greskia spurred him into action, volunteering to join the Orphan Company so he could finally take the fight back to the Ragon and try to redeem himself in his own eyes for his absence in the initial invasion and abandoning the lines when the Ragon reached Earth.

Puranas's Application For Orphan Membership

Postby Puranas » Sun Jun 20, 2021 11:16 am

Was originally just gonna do a species and character, but there was information I had to just let things make sense that didn't fit anywhere and that evolved into a work up on the star system they call home. Used my own flag so as to not have to spend too much extra time digging up a new one.
Image

Name: Yggdrasil League

Notes: In the distant past, the Kibu reached out from orbit of their homeworld and began colonizing other celestial bodies in their star system. Thanks to their variable genetics, it wasn’t long before their colonies began evolving into distinct subspecies more biologically optimized for their general world’s environments. For generations, the Kibu’s limited interstellar technologies did manage to keep each world somewhat connected, but each was overall an independent state unto itself.

Such was the status quo when long distance sightings and intercepted signals provided proof of others existing beyond their home system. Unfortunately, a group of religious fanatics took this as a sign of the coming end times and, in an attempt to forestall or outright prevent this, took military action and destroyed the Kibu’s ability to ply space as well as reach beyond their atmosphere. With the surviving numbers of their former ships crewed by corpses, the different inhabited worlds in the system were forced into isolation - some eventually managed to reach back into space under their own power, while others were brought back into the fold by their peers.

In order to prevent a similar tragedy in the future, the various subspecies and natives found on some of the worlds agreed to a unified government that would represent everyone equally. Focusing on rebuilding and setting things up so another rogue group couldn’t once again cause such damage, the League was surprised by first contact with the Federation when ships entered the system - though the original information wasn’t classified, it had mostly been forgotten about by this point in history.

Following first contact and a proper dialogue reached after the introduction of nanotechnology based translation capabilities to that region of space, the two sides managed to begin a mutually beneficial relationship. Though not formally a Federation member, the League traded resources, technology, and access to civilian facilities in exchange for the more militarily powerful state’s protection from rogue powers and organizations in the area that would have had zero qualms either conquering or exterminating the League.

In the time sense, the League has maintained its independence while under the protection of the Federation. Though now somewhat on a technological par with their benefactors, League companies stand in competition with Federation ones - resulting in fewer League versions of hardware found in Federation space thanks to the difference in advertising power. Even with this competition and saturation of various markets by Federation companies, the League is not starving for funds or resources and remains comfortably in its place as a Federation aligned state.

When the news of the Ragon’s invasion of the Milky Way Galaxy reached them, the League stepped up on production and research; the past corporate competition was forgotten as they recognized that everyone surviving would require everyone pulling out all the stops. The League also dispatched several individuals tasked with doing their parts in both acquiring information and fighting the invading forces.

As for the species itself, I tried to make it one not important to the Federation or plot as best I could. Idea being they are just living in the background. As with their government, the species could provide potential for arcs, but I've done my best to not make either something that would suck me into being so focused on their own stories separate from the main plot.
Species Description
Name: Taiyo (singular, plural, and adjective)
    Appearance:
    Image
    https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/puran ... 5rw0sc.jpg
On average, a Taiyo is mostly human-like in external appearance outside of possessing fur covered ears and tail. Regional variations can result in some variations in ears, but the general aspects are common throughout.

Most Taiyo fur is in shades of purple, with variations on lavender being common. However, there is a 5% chance of being born with a recessive gene that results in the expression of green hues. It is also not unheard of for a Taiyo’s hair color to match or be close to their fur color, but it isn’t mandatory.

    Biology:
  • Eyesight - Having evolved on the day side of a tidally locked world, the Taiyo evolved to be at their best in higher light levels; those going offworld often require light amplification eyewear, but it’s not mandatory for day to day life. Other than that, members of the species can
  • Hearing - In spite of so many generations since and environmental differences, the Taiyo retain the sense of hearing from their Kibu ancestors. Compared to an average human, a Taiyo is not only able to hear in a greater range with higher accuracy at distance, but the average Taiyo can more easily pinpoint where certain sounds are coming from.
  • Brainpower - As a side effect of the Taiyo’s almost religious fervor towards scientific advancement, they have unintentionally used eugenics to further the development of the average individual’s brain and what it’s capable of; of course, there have also been intentional eugenics projects mixed in over the generations. This results in modern Taiyo having, by human standards, averages of high IQs, problem solving skills, and other mental boons.

Background:
    Home-world: Eifie
History: Descended from Kibu colonists attracted by the tidally locked world’s mineral wealth, the Taiyo evolved on the day half of Eifie. Known for their mental acuity, the average member of the population is not physically imposing and tends to prefer technological solutions to their problems.

Like the original Kibu and the other offshoots, the Taiyo are not an expansionist power. In their case, the Taiyo are generally uninterested in things that draw their attention away from their projects; if not for the more martially minded Lun - who had evolved from Kibu colonists on Eifie’s night side - the Taiyo would have likely been conquered and forced to be some more militaristic power’s think tank. This isn’t to say Taiyo-Lun relations have been peachy through Eifie’s history; in fact, prior to regaining space flight (having lost it when the Kibu turned inward out of fear of the outside), the two sides regularly waged war against each other. In truth, neither side really wanted dominance over the other and this fact both kept them from seriously trying to break the stalemate; as well, this lack of any real animosity, combined with cross cultural families growing more and more in number and other events, that made the declaration of peace all that much easier with the two sides declaring joint control of Eifie by combining their governments.

No longer having to worry about fighting anymore, scientists were able to turn their gaze back to the stars. Neither the Lun or Taiyo had forgotten their ancestral offworld origins, but knew they needed to not only redevelop the technology to reach above their atmosphere again but advance it to be able to properly reach out to other stars. With the brainpower of the Taiyo, Eifie was able to reach outside its own atmosphere under its own power and rejoin their cousins who had as they moved to reach hands down to those on worlds that hadn’t.

Lending their aid in rebuilding their system’s infrastructure, the Taiyo were on the front line when Federation scouts crossed the perimeter. Blocked by the language barrier, a Taiyo specializing in linguistics was assigned to learn a common tongue in order to find if the extra-solar visitors were friendly or hostile. It wasn’t until the invention of a nanite based universal translation technology that both sides really opened up to each other.

Ever since, Taiyo scientists, scholars, and researchers have worked officially for both governments as well in both League and Federation civilian arenas. Though not overshadowing their peers, members of this species can often be found working near anywhere that new knowledge can be found.

As for the character, again, she’s no one special to her people, state, or the Federation. Tried to write her up as just someone off street who joins Orphan for her own reasons. Again, we could do stuff for those back home, but she’s not meant to be mandatorily tied to anything.
Character Description

Strengths and Weaknesses
    Skills:
  • Stamina - Though she doesn’t appear very muscular, Jacira has had decades of physical activity due to her choice of career path and, though not necessarily at speed, she’s able to cover long stretches without tiring.
  • Polyglot - Though universal translator technologies have rendered the practice antiquated, Jacira is fluent in both main languages native to Eifie and has learned enough to be conversant in the native tongue of the Kibu. Since joining the Orphans, she has decided to start learning the human language of English as well.
    Weaknesses:
  • Speed - Though possessing a level of endurance honed through decades, Jacira is not known for her speed and can easily be overtaken; she’s also more easily worn out if forced to go at a speed she’s not comfortable with.
  • Obsessive Personality Traits - As a Taiyo, Jacira can potentially get tunnel vision regarding acquiring new knowledge in her field of study and, to a lesser degree, others that perk her interest. Though this laser focus can be of use on occasion, it can blind her to dangerous situations; to counter this, Jacira sets various timers and alarms to shake her attention when she’s working.

Backstory:
Jacira’s childhood was pretty typical for a Taiyo: born the third child to a xenobotanist mother and an astronomer father, she grew up in what the technocracy could call middle class. Though Eifie was part of the League and individuals from its other member species did live on the world, Jacira’s exposure to offworlders was relatively small as a child - in truth, while she doesn’t remember, her next door neighbor was a Yosei whom often served as a babysitter when she was a toddler. The first she can remember, however, was a Fulme classmate when she was ten - she found the boy’s attempts to court her irritating outside of its value as academic knowledge she was learning.

Caught playing pretend surgery and other anatomical study games with friends as early as seven-years-old, Jacira’s future was determined. As typical of Taiyo children, she had instinctively honed in on the field of science that interested her the most - in Jacira’s case, it was biology and xenobiology. Now knowing what she would specialize in, the young Taiyo eagerly began her studies that would launch her future career.

By the time Jacira entered the professional world, she had wracked up countless hours in the field - for both educational and personal purposes - gathering specimens and studying things in their natural environments. Originally scheduled for a field study in a Sol-ward system, Jacira found the ship she was aboard recalled when word of the Ragon scouting force probing Sol had reached the League - they began preparing, predicting that such a small task force wasn’t likely to be a full invasion force.

Over the next nine years, the information the League obtained on the Ragon was enough to tell them they didn’t know enough. Though not the first who left the home system with the support of the government, Jacira set out to acquire knowledge about Ragon physiology so she and others could both better understand how they tick and easier ways to kill them.

With other League operators already working with the Federation in their own departments combined with her own preference for work in the field, Jacira gravitated towards private military organizations. With Orphan working hand-in-hand with the Federation military, she decided that joining them would aide her goals the best while still allowing her to retain contact with her peers - ironically, with her decades of knowledge and experience with biology, she easily earned acclaim as a physician within Orphan; though not commonly on the frontlines, her position still allows Jacira access to Ragon corpses and prisoners she desired for her studies. As part of Orphan, she’s also not as restricted by rules and regulation as her counterparts working with the official military.

Through a common practice in the League, Jacira had a small cybernetic implant surgically placed at the base of her brain as an infant. As this implant is little more than a brain-to-machine wireless interface, she grew up with a world colored by augmented reality displays and full-dive virtual reality through wearable technology that synced with her nervous system; a collar-like computer worn around the back of her neck to maximize skin contact and minimize distance from the interface chip the primary component while a triangular component secured to the temple feeds the A.R. data to her ocular and auditory nerves being the modern descendants of the more child-friendly kit she had as a youth.

As a child, Jacira was not one known for mischief. Though some of her peers did use their intelligence to cause trouble, often resulting in being grounded from their technologies, she preferred to enjoy a good book instead. As she got older, her interests expanded to other forms of entertainment as well. All in all, Jacira learned and adapted to living life with a plethora of information available to her fingertips and a slew of screens which she could organize and dismiss at will from her vision. In adulthood, and later as part of Orphan, it was this access to information that was central to her work.

Ironically, this ability to use augmented reality as a heads-up display and her biological knowledge is what brought her to the attention of Orphan’s medical staff. Originally signed on as a researcher to help the organization kill Ragon better and faster, a naval skirmish with Ragon changed her fate - though far from escaping unscathed, the Federation ship her Orphan detachment was traveling aboard managed to get away from a Ragon ambush; among the casualties was the small ship’s medical staff, forcing Jacira to step in and take charge of any survivors with anything resembling medical training to save as many lives as possible. Her results here rapidly spread and, though the Federation tried to poach her, Orphan command rerouted her to serve as medical personnel for the Sixth on the frontlines.

Excellent! Mostly I just didn't want to replace the main Fed rifle.

A couple of small issues with the app - if earth fell in a month (in the OP), I can't see a colony world lasting for another five years. You've also put something about hiring Inuv mercs five years in... Earth at this point is light years behind the front line and humanity lacked the technology to get out of the system. That kind of business negotiation would be rather hard to pull off. That being said, the Sol system is the target of the occasional Federation raid/scouting mission so you could work that in instead without too much trouble (trying to keep an extremely low profile while figuring out if there is anything they can do to stop the Ragons getting through the wormhole).

Thanks!

About the app, I want the character to have a bit of military pilot experience before joining the Company. I also wanted him to experience an event that would create an impulsive, violent behavior (and a mild post-traumatic stress disorder) as an emotional weakness. Is it plausible for NASA, or whatever surviving American civillian space agency to send scouts into the Moon, or Mars (or the wormhole) regularly?

Do you mean from earth or from somewhere else in the Milky Way? The US is basically just ruins and people living in the old subways at this point, with nothing resembling a Government/with the capacity to go launching spaceships right under the Ragons' noses.

I'd recommend that you either set that within the first few months of the invasion (when the Earth states still have some semblance of order) or you write it as work done for the Feds at a later date. You could pretty much keep the stuff you have, just compress the timeframe.

Character Description
    Name: Arthur Naim Bassil
    Species: Human (nationality: American)
    Gender: Male
    Age: 34
    Appearance:
    Middle Eastern (Lebanese), ~170-180cm, WIP

Strengths and Weaknesses
    Skills:
    • Arthur is an excellent pilot, with an extensive work experience from space-mining, hunting small Solar System bodies, dogfighting Ragon crafts and commandeering larger, transport and crew vessels. He possessed an above-average accuracy in fighter spaceship combat. Arthur is also a good engineer, specializing in spacecraft maintenance and propulsion engines. He can lead a fireteam, and has commanded many throughout his career, but he would always prefer leading a squadron of spacecraft (or aircraft) instead.

    Weaknesses:
    • Arthur's background of being born on Mars, and travelling extensively between Mars and Earth since an early age resulted in a detrimental effect towards his skeletal system, due to the vast differences between Earth and Mars gravity. Consequently, he received a treatment to strengthen his bones while still in adolescence. This resulted in a dependence on bisphosphonates (osteoporosis-reducing drug) that prevented very small fissures (which has a potential to become disastrous) from growing on his bones (particularly his thigh and legs).

    • He also suffers from a mild form of post-traumatic stress disorder. Usually this manifests in violent behavior when engaging with an enemy in combat, but can also lead to impulsive behavior and frequent mood swings. Arthur is currently taking serotonin inhibitor medications (sertraline and paroxetine) to combat stress.

Others
    Personal Belongings:
    • A black-and-white photograph of Yuri Gagarin, with the words in Cyrillic, "Poyekhali" written below Gagarin's picture. Often seen in his desk, or in starship control panels when he is piloting.

    • A round, wool plush of Mars, with a smiley face. Sometimes with a photograph of Arthur's parents stuck on one side of the ball. Often seen in his chambers; "stress relief". Also often seen in his chambers are alcohol of any kind (whenever allowed).

    • A Maronite Cross necklace.

Backstory

Personnel Interview Log: Bassil, Arthur Naim
Interviewer: "Before we complete your files, Mr. Bassil, there's still the final interview for you to do. Mostly for paperworks. We already have information about your background, of course, but we'd like you to provide a quick summary of your biography… recorded. I am Sergeant Gicropu Phrondoth."

Mr. Bassil: "I know."

Interviewer: "It's formality, Arthur. You can start to talk."

Mr. Bassil: "Name: Bassil, Arthur. Species, Human. Age… thirty-four solar years and four months, observed from Planet Earth."

Interviewer: "Those are well-known facts present in every personnel document you completed. Let's go for the details."

Mr. Bassil: "I was born and raised on the planet Mars. It was humanity's first frontier, they used to say. The settlement was an American colony, not as large as the ones they established near the poles, but something of a research and development station. It was also a museum. It's called Perseverance, after an old robot that NASA sent like a century ago to the planet. Martians revere the place almost like a holy site - there's even a monument regularly visited by pilgrims. It was humanity's first encounter with alien life; dead bacteria from eons ago, but life nonetheless. The town spans about half the length of the Jezero crater… the other half being rock-and-clay barren wilderness."

Mr. Bassil: "My family, we owned a pair of rovers that I liked to drive around the crater. I was only three the first time I tried to drive the car. The whole region was a wilderness… they wanted to keep it intact to preserve the relics of Mars' ancient living ecosystem. My father was a NASA engineer, and my mother an astrobiologist - both scientists. It runs in the family; my grandparents met at Caltech working on a JPL project. They're Lebanese; father would sometimes take me on trips to Earth, visiting his family home - though I'll admit each journey is very daunting. I was born on Mars, and was familiar with the gravity on Mars; my bones would have to be injected with some sort of liquid - a juice of calcium, phosphorus, and other peculiar chemicals, I guess - every time I went to Earth. Over time, I think, it has a quite pleasant side effect of strengthening my bones and making my limb muscles more flexible. But there are several, enormous, drawbacks that continue to affect me from these treatments. More on that later, though."

Interviewer: "Tell me about your career. Observers noted that you did not talk much about your early life in prior interviews."

Mr. Bassil: "That's…" *curious look* "because it's not much. Unlike much of your other recruits, I'm not a soldier. I was, to be fair - reluctantly, but that wouldn't be my first choice for a job. Wasn't, I meant. The only high-paying job these days is sacrificing your life to get the attention of a Ragon." *sigh*

Mr. Bassil: "In Perseverance, there wasn't a typical… High School system like what you would see in the major Martian settlements. It was a research outposts, and the family of NASA scientists would have to receive some sort of home-schooling - though I'd favor the term field-schooling myself, due to the constraints of my parents' jobs. I did, however, manage to gain myself a scholarship at MIT. An Earthen University. And almost free. Sure as heck I didn't pass on that! I was seventeen at that time… years later, and with a baccalaureate in Mechanical Engineering, I applied to work at SpaceX, that legacy company."

Interviewer: "You registered as a pilot, not an engineer. Given your experience, though, perhaps my superiors would be keen to assign you as a field mechanic."

Mr. Bassil: "I haven't finished my story yet… it's just one part of the contract. The other part is piloting exploration spacecraft, chasing planetesimals, comets, and extracting minerals and other compounds from small Solar System bodies. While they can do the job by probes, they preferred human controls - and I would do the dual job of maintaining and utilizing these probes, as well as piloting the craft that controls them. Now, they took a diverse variety of clients. From NASA and Roscosmos, space administrations who wanted to develop bigger, better space appliances to outcompete each other, to ancient conglomerates like Rio Tinto and Sinopec who basically just wanted to mine every speck of asteroid in deep space to grains. It's a lucrative business, and it needs a tough engineer and pilot to perfect the operations."

Interviewer: *slight smile* "And how was your career record, Mr. Bassil? Promotions? Recommendations? Your last position?"

Mr. Bassil: "I had a four years of career in SpaceX. I mean… it's not much, but to be fair, being a senior engineer in those four years is a bit remarkable, don't you think? Compared to the condition I am presently in today, at least. I am passionate about my past career. But all good things end eventually, and it's a disgusting, abrupt end for me. Dirty lizards… attacked my ship suddenly, when I was piloting a cargo vessel, towing a mining probe to the SpaceX hangar at Utopia Planitia. I was following a trade convoy, and I was able to slip away due to those beasts devouring the largest crafts first, but then I had to make a rapid flight to Earth." *sigh*

Interviewer: "The dreaded Ragons."

Mr. Bassil: "Yes. It was disgraceful. My ship, well, boat, rather - was a small freighter designed to carry and operate mining probes, but it had four nuclear pulse propulsion engines, in addition to the two regular ion thrusters that you'd see in every spacecraft. I had to activate the nuclear engines - which was only meant to be used for departing from atmospheres. When I arrived at the company's main landing site in Texas, everything was in disarray; the Ragons were approaching Earth's Moon, the employees gone to safe shelters, and ultimately, my nuclear engines were damaged and fuels exhausted - ruling out any escape from Earth."

Mr. Bassil: "There was an abandoned company car I could use, though. I was stranded on Earth, with nowhere to go, but at least I had my personal belongings intact and a bank account full of credit - not that money would be very useful afterwards. Oh, and to make it worse, there's still the issue with my bones. I think I've told you earlier about the horrible effects of Earth gravity on someone born on Mars? As a consequence of that… 'bone-strengthening therap'y, I have a dependence on bisphosphonates that I must take every several days or so. It's like osteoporosis… but milder. Not that getting the drugs would be a problem, though; it's quite easy to procure, and I had plenty of stock. The effects of not taking the drugs are horrible, though. But that's certainly not a liability…. I'm certain I could manage it while being a part of the Orphan Company. Think of it like someone using cybernetics - they'd need batteries, recharges, spareparts, but this is organic."

Interviewer: *sharp look* "We will take note of that, Mr. Bassil. Please, continue."

Mr. Bassil: "I traveled north to Houston from SpaceX's spaceport in the south of Texas. It was one of the last strongholds of the United States on Earth that's still intact when I got there, probably since it hosts a NASA command center - one of the only links remaining from America to its territories beyond the Earth. The city was almost deserted, with most of its buildings being damaged or destroyed. Ragons killed indiscriminately. And the defense personnel - NASA most of all, were worryingly low on numbers. I had nowhere to go, no homes, no shelter, nothing; so I enlisted to become a NASA pilot. It's somewhat bizarre; when I was a boy, it was my dream job, and I only finally got it when Earth's standing on its last legs."

Interviewer: "Terrible. Now, the most important part, Mr. Bassil. We need to know your experience with weapons."

Mr. Bassil: " 'Course, Sergeant. I've been familiar with pistols and rifles, which are abundant on Perseverance. Mars was a frontier, after all, and arms practice was a common part of life for the colonists, even for the scientist staff. I have never actually killed a man, though, until joining the NASA emergency pilot program. There was this… uh… small ship; gunboat, or corvette, I don't know how to describe it. It's basically a manned research probe fitted with more, advanced, nuclear and ion thrusters. Oh, and a lot of weapons. Old railguns, Marine reserve stocks, and torpedoes as well. Don't know why they chose to send civilians, but I think the Navy's pinned down and NASA is the only government agency with vessels fast enough to reach the Belt and contact the lost Americans there."

Mr. Bassil: "We received military training, of course, for a month. For Houston to last as long as a month itself is remarkable - I heard New Orleans has fallen already, and the personnel sent to retreat to Atlanta found it already in lizard hands. Our mission was to scout the Asteroid Belt, particularly American mining bases near Ceres and Vesta, repair the relay stations that sent communication signals, and send news of whatever happened back there to Earth, as communications have gone completely silent since the lizards' arrival."

Mr. Bassil: "However, the launch was a disaster. We organized into several launch groups. I was supposed to launch with the last... but when the first was shot down by Ragon patrols a few minutes after they took off, obviously, it doesn’t make sense to continue the launches. The last link between America and her off-world possessions are severed. But that is not to say the launch has been in vain. It attracted someone.”

Interviewer: *grinning* “It attracted me. If there is anything your species did not lack, it is determination." *pause* “It was quite a scene when we landed. The launch base was disorganized, and we had a dozen people pointing guns to our heads when we walked out of the spacecraft. And I remember you… on the very front of them. Ready to kill.”

Mr. Bassil: "You know, you are really irritating applicants." *disgruntled look*

Interviewer: "Better Together, Mr. Bassil. Trust is a key component in our ranks."

Mr. Bassil: "I… I was distraught. Stressed… the whole situation has been painfully stressful. I could not bear having to escape another xeno again. The Ragons have turned everywhere around us a human corral."

Interviewer: "Your planet is not the only one. The last applicant's homeworld has been turned into a farm. Her parents were brutally chewed by Ragons." *slight grin* "Nasty, bloody pulp. I don't know if yours are better, but you yourself don't know about them, so I'd be definitely having nightmares everyday if I were you."

Mr. Bassil: "Jesus Christ."

Interviewer: "You still have a God after all. The others have been stripped bare of their faith. Pure rage and emotion."

Mr. Bassil: "No… I… it's a support system. You would be grasping to some sort of faith were you to be thrown into my place. At least the applicant that you said of had the privilege of knowing what happened to her parents." *sigh*

Interviewer: "Arthur, I offered you a place on our ship. You have not explained to me why you took our hand then."

Mr. Bassil: "Why I chose to join you…? You’re mercenaries. You have no home and you’ll fight everyone that you’re paid to fight... Ragons most of all. Why did I join the NASA program at Houston? I too did not have a home on Earth, wandering with scarce supply of things, trying to avoid the Ragon forces alone. My home on Mars has been turned into a human farm for all I know, and almost everyone I knew is either dead or lost. There's certainly no safe place in the Solar System."

Interviewer: "So you thought the Company would finally provide shelter and good work for you? How naïve. You'll die in the Company."

Mr. Bassil: “I have been raiding with your band of mercenaries for a year, Phrondoth. I survived a massacre. And I will survive many more.”

Interviewer: "No. I will send you directly on the frontline for your first job, and then you'll return to me, crying, bruised, and bloodied, begging that Earth is a far better place that the wider galaxy."

*Both person stood up*

Mr. Bassil: *grinning* "You're a cold-blooded bastard, Sergeant Phrondoth."

Interviewer: "Oh, after a year in the Company, your blood's gonna be a lot colder than mine."

    Addendum
• It is known that Mr. Bassil was part of a group of mercenaries under the employment of Inuv exile Gicropu Phrondoth for a brief moment, before Phrondoth entered the service of the Orphan Company. As such, Mr. Bassil is expected to possess a degree of combat experience.

• Upon interview, Mr. Bassil, hereafter referred to as recruit, was then subjected to several months of training under Captain Bhinath. Recruit was assigned to a training squadron of fighter starships, with objectives chasing mobile, small star system bodies, such as comets and planetesimals. Recruit displayed excellent maneuvering abilities, and above-average targeting accuracy, successfully hitting 90% of all given targets, most of which moved on an average speed of several hundred kilometres per minute.

• Recruit was given his first combat assignment after three months of training, followed by several other assignments - primarily mercenary contracts. Recruit perfectly completed all of his given objectives in four out of seven assignments; the remaining three with minimal to major failures. Throughout the assignments, recruit has demonstrated good piloting capabilities and excellent engineering knowledge. However, recruit is very dependent on bisphosphonate medication to maintain the health of his skeletal system. On one occasion, recruit failed to administer his medication, being engaged in combat. The assignment was a success, with the recruit demonstrating excellent piloting and targeting capabilities, but the recruit reported significant pain and uneasiness while walking about twelve hours later. When the recruit was subjected to a CT scan, it was revealed that very small, but numerous fissures had formed in his bones (particularly in the femur and tibia) that could lead to severe complications. When bisphosphonate medication is administered to the recruit, the fissures were reported to disappear completely. It is unknown as to what caused this mechanism, and the recruit was reluctant to provide further details about the conditions that had caused his illness in the first place.

Not long though I haven't been too specific. Characters are tier 3 now. You can add a year to your character's age if you want, or not if you don't.

That's because it's the greatest RP in the history of RP's... and you better believe it's still sort of active.

Also, I like the fact that I added 3 years, and gave a sort of valid reason why.

Here’s too hoping I don’t embarrass myself

Postby Rynagria » Mon May 09, 2022 4:35 am

Character Description
Name: Jonah “Joe” K. Maldonado (Jonah Kennedy Maldonado)
    Species: Human
    Gender: Male
    Age: 27 Earth Years Old
    Appearance:
    Image

Strengths and Weaknesses
    Skills:
  • ”PTFO!”: To the last man, to the last bullet, even if has to accomplish an objective severely injured with nothing more than a rusty bayonet, Jonah is the man for the job. He will commit all available resources he controls, whether that be ammunition, explosives, and to a certain extent other soldiers with him. Although in the case of other people, he would never purposefully place them in danger.

  • Scrounger/Scavenger: You need something? Ask Jonah and he’ll find a way to get his hands on it, of course this is only possible if it’s something that he can get away with. For example extra battery packs, explosives, rations, and other small stuff. Which might be useful in and out of combat.

  • Slightly Machine: Due to a previous injury sustained in a previous combat, he’s lost his entire left arm and replaced it with a prosthetic one. Albeit there’s nothing really special about it, with Jonah specifically asking for a minimal improvement to his former flesh and bone limb.

    Weaknesses:
  • ”Nothing Too Special”: Despite having the skills and aptitude to be better than the typical human infantryman, Jonah does not provide a specific role in the unit. He’s neither among the most accurate, fastest, nor strongest of members. Often he fills in a position that does not have a dedicated member assigned to it.

  • Tunnel-Vision: While it doesn’t happen often, if Jonah’s overwhelmed at any point (something like perceiving too many things that needs to be done), he tends to hyperfocus on a single problem at the time. On more than one occasion, this has gotten him in serious trouble before. In particular being the reason for the loss of his arm and the majority of his fireteam he was in at the time.

Backstory:
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Maldonado and five other siblings, they initially lived in a small, secluded, nameless rural town in Texas. Jonah’s life on Earth was uneventful and quiet, not really having any significant conflict. By all means, his life can be considered boring. He went to school, helped around the town, sometimes hunted and mostly focused on helping out his family. All the while thinking of the future and the options he had. But that would all change when the invasion occurred.

Rather than picking up or being called to arms against the invading aliens like his father, two older brothers, and his other neighbors, he was tasked with bringing his mother and siblings to an evacuation site closest to them. Jonah did his best to keep them safe and delivered them to a site, where upon arriving would be separated from his family, conscripted to fight. Upon returning to the site after most of his units were destroyed, Jonah would find it burned to the ground and no signs of survivors. Lost and alone, the young man would go hide amongst the remains of the area, surviving and evading discovery of the Ragon menace. At some point as luck would have it, the only confirmed living Maldonado would be rescued and taken off-world, where he would eventually join the Orphan Company.

Initially being trained as a driver and substitute gunner for an armored vehicle, Jonah would find himself in the infantry after being in five different vehicles that were lost to enemy fire within three months, all incidents were concluded that he was not at fault. Notwithstanding his terrible start, Jonah would prove himself more than adequate as an infantryman. On several occasions, the young man would showcase his ability to lead others when the ranking officer of his units would be taken out of action. Reviewing his record would tell you that ever since enlisting, he partook in all engagements the Orphans were in.

Prior to participating in the defense of Saridat, Jonah would lose his left arm during a tasking to permanently neutralize a silenced hostile gun emplacement. Being ambushed by a single heavily wounded Ragon, which managed to kill two of his squadmates before devouring his left arm in a span of about 10 seconds. Even with a grievous injury, Jonah would briefly engage the Ragon with one the dead’s fallen LVI, until the rest of the squad would arrive to overwhelm the beast with sheer firepower and allow him to finish planting the rest of the explosive charges. Afterwards, the soldier was transported to the nearest medical station and was given a replacement arm, but would need some time for rehabilitation. By the time Jonah was ready for combat, the enemy had just reached Greskia.
