It's pretty clear you're just here to follow / annoy people, so you can consider yourself banned from the thread. I don't like bringing in mod action, so I'm not reporting right now, but that will have to happen if you continue.

++ CHARACTER PROFILE; Tanya Petranova
++ Handler/Administrator

++ Name: Tanya Petranova
++ Appearance:
Image

++ Role: Handler/Administrator

++ Age: 23
++ Gender: Female
++ Nationality: Russian
++ Residence: Volgograd, Russia
++ Affiliation: Black Knight Group PMC

++ Build: 5'4" , 130lbs
++ Cybernetics / Genetic Enhancements:

IR / UV Vision: Tanya can see up into the UV range, and down in IR through her neural link.

Dermal Reinforcement: Tanya's skin is tougher than normal, more resistant to tearing and bruising. A knife or scalpel can still get through, but it takes considerably more force. Has stopped small, subsonic rounds in the past, but Tanya isn't a front line fighter anymore.

Grinev Design Bureau GN-34 Neural Link: A military grade neural link which is implanted and allows for direct connection and feedback from link-capable weapons and other military equipment. The link is also capable of overlaying information from cameras and recon devices directly over the user's vision.
++ Equipment:
Maxim 9 Mk. 3 - These days Tanya doesn't go into combat as often as she used to, but when she does she carries this trusty Maxim 9 Mk. 3. An integraly suppressed 9mm pistol with neural link integration, red dot sight, and attached flashlight.

P90 - While quite an old weapon, it's been upgraded to match modern military standards, and is a favorite of Tanya. Usually comes attached with sight, suppressor, and flashlight, though other attachments aren't unknown.

++ Skills:
Combat Trained - Tanya started out as boots on the ground in her fathers company before joining the Black Knight Group. As such, even though her new job shouldn't require it, should she get into a hairy situation, she knows how to fight, including with others. She is particular to urban fighting, as most of her past stations have been building or urban postings.

Administrator - Tanya was originally going to inherit her father's company, the Iron Rose Solutions, before he was forced to liquidate it to pay off fines and other fees from tax evasion. As such she is trained in many aspects of running a business. From finances, to navigating red tape, to managing employees.

Smooth Talker - Tanya is a social butterfly, and used to mingling with people more physically imposing than herself. As such she has a practiced tongue, and is pretty good at keeping her cool when in stressful situations. Most of the time, the same can't be said for her personal life, of which she has been allowed very little)
++ Weaknesses:

Stunted Social Life - Tanya has rarely if ever been allowed to just be a person. Through most of her life it's been rigorous training, careful social planning, boarding school, you name it. Most of her friends, what few dates she's ever been on, and more have all been chosen for her. As such she has poor coping skills when it comes to stress, and unknowns in her personal life, though she is able to hold her cool when it comes to business.

Featherweight - Tanya may have the training to fight, but physically she is small and lightweight. It's easy to overpower her up close, and she doesn't have high tolerances for most drugs she could get into her system. This also means that it's relatively easy to hurt her, taking her out of any fight she's unlucky enough to be in faster than one would expect.

++ Personality: Tanya is a professional, careful girl that is used to the high profile world of corporate warfare, aristocracy, and business men. She is confident, calm, and usually cool under pressure. That said, she has little experience with non-business matters, or situations involving careful words and actions, like meetings between business rivals. In private matters, she's more
++ Biography: Born, raised, and groomed to inherit Iron Rose Solutions, a small PMC owned by her father. Tanya's entire life has revolved around it. She was sent to boarding schools with the children of hopeful clients. She was taught to fight, to run the company, and was raised to inherit all of it after her brothers and sisters proved better in other roles. That was until her father was caught for a most heinous crime. Tax Evasion. Between his court fees, owed money, and fines, he had to liquidate the entire company. Angry, Tanya cut herself off and went independent, eventually finding her way to the Black Knight Group.

++ CHARACTER PROFILE; <Elenora Germanova>
++ <PMC Android>

++ Name: Elenora Germanova
++ Appearance:
Image

++ Role: PMC Android

++ Age: N/A
++ Gender: Female Appearance
++ Nationality: Russian PMC Owned
++ Residence: Volgograd, Russia
++ Affiliation: Black Knight Group PMC

++ Build: 6'5", 178lbs
++ Cybernetics / Genetic Enhancements:
Grinev Design Bureau CL-19 Cyber Link: A military grade cyber-link that is built into Elenora's body and allows for direct connection and feedback from link-capable weapons and other military equipment. The link is also capable of overlaying information from cameras and recon devices directly over the user's vision.

IR / UV Vision: Much like her Cyber Link, Elenora has built in IR / UV Vision.

Enhanced Synthetic Muscles - Elenora is a combat model, and as such her muscles as they can be called are stronger than her frame appears to allow. This allows her to use weapons and equipment much heavier than her body suggests without aid.

Dermal Reinforcement - Elenora is a combat model, and care has been taken to reinforce her skin to make it resistant to combat damage, stopping mid range rounds without damage. There are stronger reinforcements out there, but this was the best balance of strength and weight for Elenora. All in all, her Dermal Reinforcement is somewhere close to the border between Level III and IV body armor, on the III side.

++ Equipment: Honestly just going to add this later, I will spend days hemming and hawing over this, but she's a PMC unit, so mission based anyway.

++ Skills: Elenora is a combat model android built and sold for mercenary and soldier work. As such she is skilled in close quarters combat, tactics, and equipment. Furthermore, she is programmed with a translator that allows her to communicate with many of the most common languages, and can be uploaded with new ones if needed.
++ Weaknesses: This isn't Elenora's first assignment, and as such she's picked up habits, or more accurately, the lack of them from her last one. The company that owned her before Black Knight Group was strict, and allowed little variation in the personalities or habits of it's androids. Still, while Elenora has a sense of self, and her own opinions, she is used to suppressing them, and has little knowledge with how to handle people that aren't her handlers or team.

++ Personality: Curious at heart, Elenora is used to a 'should be seen not heard' and is very reserved and quiet out of habit. Despite this, she holds strong opinions, even if she keeps them to herself, and is both lonely and a little bit of a firebrand, given time and allowance, she'll settle into expanding her habits with her new team.
++ Biography: A combat android that used to belong to a PMC based out of the Ukraine, she was sold when the company was absorbed by another one that preferred not to use androids where it could. She was bought by the Black Knight Group, and some unrepaired internal damage that previously limited her was repaired.

When we lose one we love, our bitterest tears are called forth by the memory of hours when we loved not enough. - Maurice Maeterlinck

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. - Washington Irving

++ CHARACTER PROFILE; Parris "Rebel-2" Stephenson
++ Punk

++ Name: Parris Stephenson
++ Appearance:
Image

++ Role: Punk

++ Age: 20
++ Gender: Female
++ Nationality: American
++ Residence: Katy, Houston Megalopolis. Though, since the start of college, her address has been at the University of Houston campus in southeastern Houston.
++ Affiliation: The Asylum hacking collective.

++ Build: 5'3", 108 lbs
++ Cybernetics / Genetic Enhancements:
  • SouthTEC 726 Neural Link (Modified): This neural link produced by the Atlanta based SouthTEC is a relatively common model on the American market, but Parris has used open-sourced modifications on her own to remove some of the restrictions that are a part of this off the shelf model. This not only allows her to push the limits of the device further, but to avoid recording any information that could possibly get back to bad actors such as technical logs of her activities. Furthermore, the specific changes to the firmware allow the neural link to spoof other similar devices, a tactic useful in slipping under the radar or impersonating others.
  • Designer Traits: Born into money, Parris' family ensured that she would have a distinctive look about herself. Her reddish hair and blue eyes combination is natural, or at least, natural in the sense that they were picked out as designer traits before birth.
++ Equipment:
  • Dell CyberSurfer 16 Laptop: The laptop of choice for Parris... Not a cheap one, either. But it's worth the price, because it's capable of executing advanced programs without waiting around for processing. With the kinds of things that Parris deals in, that's often a necessary trait for a device. It doesn't run Windows, but rather a secure OS known as KryptOS. While Parris has been advised against this by teachers, it furthers her aims of acting as a digital ghost. Inputting a specific password at the start screen will reveal a more ordinary looking partition of the hard drive that doesn't contain any of Parris' more "interesting" activities.
  • Sony S86 Notepad: A smaller laptop used for more mundane tasks such as work at university. The one that the less suspicious material is kept on. Good enough, according to her, though it lacks the cutting edge speed of her primary option.
  • Hunting Knife: You never know when you'll get into it with someone. Especially when you hang around dangerous crowds. Parris believes in coming prepared, and it's easier for a student to keep a hunting knife than a handgun.
  • Anti-Camera Dazzlers: Parris, with the help of others, has created a set of small lasers that are connected to her neural link. These are programmed to recognize cameras within her field of vision and flood them with intense laser streams, rendering the footage useless or burning out the inside of the camera. Typically, Parris will attach four of these at a time to the outside of a hoodie for redundancy. The devices are based on more professional devices used by professional security and other such figures, but are constructed more cheaply and are also shrunken down to a smaller size with a smaller microchip linking them to the neural link.
  • Theater Mask (Tragedy): A symbol of the theater since ancient times. But also a symbol of the Asylum, and of Parris alternate identity as 'Rebel-2.'

++ Skills:
  • Talented Programmer: Despite still being in college for computer sciences, Parris is already a talented programmer that has for the most part taught herself on multiple languages through high school, where she focused on that over pursuing an active social life. Something about making things come to life through code held her attention, and praise from others would only reaffirm to her that she was headed down the correct path headed into college.
  • Street Smart: While most don't expect a computer sciences major to have much smarts in the street, Parris has always been out and about in the Houston metropolitan area and became quite street wise from the experience. Whether it's knowing how to avoid police or knowing which areas of town carry the most risks, she's rarely lost in an urban environment.
  • Good Runner: Parris might not be the most athletic person in the world but she's far from out of shape either, in large part because of being out in the city so much. And if the need calls for it, she's good at doing at least what's required to get away from a situation.
  • Inspiring: With her words, Parris is good at inspiring others and convincing them to do something for a cause. Her position within the Asylum shows this, as her words have pushed others to take risks from associating with the group despite the ever-present risk of the OSA.
  • Double Life: Parris is generally good at covering up her activities and pretending to live an entirely normal life, at least towards those who have no idea about her other activities with the Asylum.
++ Weaknesses:
  • The Computer Is Mightier Than The Sword: Parris has personally focused her attention into fighting authority through digital means - she's not a fighter herself, even if she does frequently carry a knife, and would be at an automatic disadvantage if she had to protect herself in an actual fight and not one behind a computer screen.
  • Many Faces: Many times, Parris feels that few people truly know her due to her multiple lives and her vastly different paths in both of them. This has often created an isolated feeling, as if everyone else simply knows one face of her.
  • Expectations: Parris was born into money and unlike some with more distant family, has parents that expect her to do something and continue their success. This, of course, plays an active role in making it harder to balance her differing paths.
  • Wasted: Drug use and getting wasted are just part of the underground culture that Parris hangs around, and this trait has been picked up somewhat by her. Some of the closest calls with her underground life blending with her regular one have been because of this.
  • Hardliner: Parris is sure about her ideals and believes that they can't be compromised regardless of the effects of sticking with her current path. She very much believes in liberty or death.
++ Personality: On the surface level, most will find Parris to be a sharp witted and quick thinking girl that doesn't concern herself with popularity or others' opinion of her - she doesn't keep to herself, per say, but she doesn't push for popularity either or make an effort to endear herself to every person. Rather, she seems to have an innate confidence that dictates that she doesn't need to make herself popular with each person. To the average person, she'll come off as pretty normal. But those who know her at a deeper level will realize that under the surface, she's highly motivated and holds a specific set of ideals about liberty at her core, and that many of her actions are working to advance those ideals. Parris in many ways has the same spirit as a revolutionary leader of the past, believing in a cause and being willing to pursue it at her own personal detriment. Those who look closely enough will also find someone who cares deeply for those that make up her close circle, who know the truth about her intentions.

++ Biography: Houston, Texas - one of the largest megalopolises in the United States, and the place where Parris Stephenson was born to parents Alissa and Connor. The second of three children, she wasn't wanting for much when she was growing up. Her parents were involved in real estate and also high level retail work. Essentially, high up enough the ladder that neither of them had to constantly hustle anymore to make a very comfortable amount of money and provide a high class life for the family. And they were a happy enough family for those reasons, even if the parents would prove to be the type that had plenty of expectations. After all, they hadn't worked this hard to build wealth just to see their children eventually squander it someday. As the middle child, Parris would have those expectations on her shoulders also, but not to the same extent as her older brother. Still, she did have more than her younger sister.

She would have likely followed the path of her older brother and just focused on her studies and meeting these expectations. But the reason why she didn't head down this path was largely the friends that she kept. She wasn't the type to only associate with her own class, and she found herself with friends from the more urban parts of Houston from a pretty early age. As soon as she was allowed, she was heading out of her house often and going into the city, many times pushing her luck and going further than she was allowed; it was around this time when she would get a feel for what things were like in some of the rougher areas, where there was good reason to dodge police and where dissent about the Occidental System was thrown around far more openly.

After all, the Occidental System was the most popular with the suburban white-picket-fence demographic that benefited from its economic advantages the most and didn't care as much about higher politics relating to subjects such as self-determination and the centralization of power. In more industrial areas that didn't benefit as much from the OS, as well as areas that remained poor even after the Occidental Accords, sentiment was a lot less positive. In the eyes of areas like that, the OS had done little to improve things and had simply moved decision making power further from home, ensuring it would be harder for local citizens to take things into their own hands and push for a turnaround. It was the streets of Houston that Parris found out about these sentiments from, and it was also those days during her youth when she was shaken down by police for the first time and when she became more aware of the security state around her - aware of the cameras that were all over the city, and the presence of the Occidental Security Agency instead of just the regular police.

She'd have a number of interesting experiences during these years. She'd head to a party with a friend when she was fourteen, in the more run down Sixth Ward, but would end up tackled to the ground by SWAT forces as the building was raided because of suspected criminals being present. A different time, she was pinned against a car and an assault rifle pointed at her back while she was searched because the vehicle she was riding in was confused by the OSA for one belonging to a suspect. Occurrences like these happened other times, too, and began to simply blend together into a stream of smaller experiences that would help to shape her ideals in the future. When she was seventeen, her and her older cousin Lincoln were out in the city when they happened to end up at the wrong place at the wrong time - an anti-OS bombing destroyed a convention center where an Occidental System economic conference was set to take place the next week, and as some of the only ones fleeing the scene when the authorities responded, both her and Lincoln were taken in as suspects by the OSA.

The next weeks would be a blur, as both Parris and Lincoln were essentially held in an OSA blacksite at an unknown location, for an amount of time that neither of them could specify definitively. They were subject to rough interrogations, with details of their pasts being brought up in an attempt to tie them to a possible motive. Parris herself was accused of being a secessionist, a member of an organized crime syndicate, and an anarchist during her time there - none of these labels would stick, and as the authorities weren't able to link her or Lincoln to the crime, they would begrudgingly be forced to return them to Houston and release them. The experience affected both of them heavily nonetheless, especially as they were forbidden from talking about the details of their stay at the blacksite even with their friends. It gave both of them a distinctly anti-authority outlook towards the state security apparatus, and would become the seeds of the paths they would eventually take.

Parris recovered from her ordeal in time to enroll in the University of Houston - even though her family was rich enough to get her in regardless, she'd win herself a scholarship due to her skill with programming. It was something she had taken up during high school, and she learned particularly from the city's underground hacking scene. While she wouldn't be seriously into the anti-authority side of it just yet, she would learn skills such as replacing the default firmware of a neural link with more secure open-source firmware and also allowing it to go outside the limits of the manufacturer. Her interest in programming ended up having little impact on her out-and-about lifestyle, as she simply began spending more time away from home and collaborating in-person with the hacking collectives of Houston, learning lessons from them and taking in their views too. This, of course, was one of the reasons why the OSA would later come at her with the angle that she was an anarchist behind a major terror attack.

During her freshman year, however, Parris would take a step forward onto a path she wouldn't be able to revert. She'd catch back up with her cousin Lincoln, finding out that Lincoln had since begun a dissident group known as the Asylum. The group would, of course, begin smaller than the role it would eventually take on. It pushed back against the security state and also against megacorporations that had largely worked hand in hand with that state and handled things such as removing dissident accounts online, operating cameras, and controlling the narrative through the press. It would do this through means that begun subtly, such as hacking electronic signs and replacing them with dissident messages, or targeting unsecured databases and scrambling them. The group also maintained anonymous identities, with Lincoln taking on the moniker of 'Rebel-1', a masked figure of resistance.

While the first year of the group being around wasn't too ambitious, it would begin to get traction which would push it to begin more risky operations. Parris herself had become a key member by this time, taking on the name 'Rebel-2' in the streets and working alongside her cousin when she could manage it. She was very much living a double life, with her friends at college sometimes hearing about the results of the Asylum's crimes but not realizing her involvement with the organization. As the group gained more attention and tried to begin more serious operations, Lincoln began planning a major move against the OSA that would leak the individual files that the OSA had on Texas citizens, allowing them to see just how much the system knew about them - after all, the information gathering extended beyond suspected wrongdoers and included the regular civilian population as well.

This plan would, apparently, backfire - the theory within the group is that Lincoln met with an insider to facilitate this plan, an insider that turned out to be a true agent of the OSA hoping to lure out the hackers. Regardless of the accuracy of that theory, the cold hard facts were that Lincoln would disappear. Days passed, and then weeks passed, without communication... And there were no signs that Lincoln had intended to go anywhere intentionally. No packed bags, hard drives left untouched, room still just as messy as on any day. As it became apparent that her cousin was missing, Parris found herself elevated into the de facto leader of the Asylum, and not entirely of her own desire. But considering her ideals and the fact that it was a mission she had started with her cousin, she was determined to continue it.

The people in the group had also become some of the only ones that she cared about. And she wasn't about to let them down. She'd be their leader even if she was balancing another more normal life at the same time. What would happen when she was done college and would be expected to move into the real world? She couldn't be sure about that. But really, she had never been the kind of person to hold back on what she thought was the right thing just because a plan wasn't set in stone. She'd figure it out later. The more important thing at the moment was finding the truth about her cousin, and exposing the full extent of the OSA in front of the world in a way that couldn't be denied.

So, to what extent are we allowed to make our own PMCs or Corps for our backstories strong? Not looking to make any major player on the world stage, more something that would have the influence and finances to let one of my characters conceivably have high end hardware, as well as have the jurisdiction to employee the other in Space Umbrella/Aperture Science

EDIT: Likewise, how limited am I with genetic engineering? Is the creation of body-horror monsters or giving something tendrils and chitinous armor something a character could actually do, or are the advancements of science limited more to that of the mechanical?

There's more money going around the world in general, you don't have to feel the need to make companies small. Lot of megacorps in most wealthy countries, and some scattered around the developing world too. Also, messing around with genetic engineering to create monsters is pretty viable too although different countries might have different ideas about how regulated that should be since, well, it scares the public a bit.

Yeah, the RP is still open. And not too far into the IC, which only just recently started.

Finishing up my app now. Kinda surprised that finding a pic is the hardest part. I might just post the app without a character pic and then update an appearance later, assuming that's alright?

Fighter - Efraim was taught how to fight by his uncle and is good with fighting with his fists

Cool-Head - Is able to focus during a firefight and keep cool even when things are bleak

++ Weaknesses:
Unaltered - Efraim has no cybernetics and thus, puts him at a disadvantage against those with cybernetics or genetic enchantments.

Close Relations - Efraim is close with his remaining family and keeps contact with them despite living in Europe. He will do anything to protect and help out his family when needed. So far, he has made no enemies that might take advantage of this but, given his sister is a part of Asylum. Things might escalate to the point that Efraim might become involved in a conflict he is not prepared for.

++ Personality: Efraim is one that likes to keep to himself most of the time when not on job. Choosing to be social when it feels like it and when he is on the job. He acts professionally and tends to be more reserved than normal. Speaking when he felts is needed and does not try to rock the boat. Despite being a merc for five years, he still has a conscience and is selective on what jobs he takes. Not wanting to work for infamous groups or other groups he seems unsavory and is a lesser-known merc for it. That and he is close to his family, particularly with his younger siblings. Willing to help them out in a moment if needed despite being an ocean apart.

++ Biography: Born in San Luis Potosí City and the eldest of three. Efraim was expected to follow in his parent's footsteps and join the military which both of his parents were active soldiers in the army. Because of this, Efraim would not see his parents a lot, and for the most part, he and his siblings were raised by their uncle Rolando who volunteered to take care of his sister's children when they were busy. Though Efraim loved his parents, he would look up to his uncle as he was always there when he needed him, unlike his parents. Who were most of the time busy with the army. Still, This arrangement would prove to be good for Efraim and his sibling.

Then things took a turn when Efraim was ten. Both of his parents were assigned to attack the last stronghold of a major cartel and during the assault. Both of his parents were killed, and Efraim was devastated at the news. When it came time to decide where Efraim and his siblings would go, no family was nearby, and the fact that Rolando has been taking care of them for years. It was obvious who would the children's caretakers. Moving in with Rolando was a big change for them. His apartment was just barely big enough for four people, and they often had just enough to get by. The only good thing was that Rolando could work from home so he can be with the kids most of the time. Something Efraim was glad for his sake and for his younger siblings' sake.

Efraim had a mixed experience growing up in San Luis Potosí City after moving in with Rolando. For though, he was a good kid and mostly kept to himself. Efraim would have brushes with the OSA. The first was when he was visiting a friend when a SWAT team got the address wrong and raided the wrong house. Forcing him to the floor with a rifle to his back. The next was when Efraim was having a birthday party for his younger brother when the OSA raided the building the party was in looking for suspected criminals. Ruined that memory pretty fast as he remembers his brother being held against a wall with his birthday hat still on. This and more incidents with OSA agents over the years did Efraim would grow tired of their presence and living in a nation that allows this to happen with impunity. Making him more aware of how he lives in a security state and the obvious downsides to living in one.

While that was going on, Rolando would take the time to teach Efraim and his siblings how to shoot and protect themselves. Something that Efraim knew his parents would have done if they would still be alive. Which he proved to be a good shoot. His siblings did well though his younger sister showed to just a good shoot as Efraim was. Something that would spark a friendly rivalry between the two whenever Rolando brought him out to practice their aim. As a result, Efraim would feel safe from the OSA whenever they practiced and grow close to his siblings.

The last straw was when Efraim had with the OSA was when he was eighteen when the OSA raided their apartment when they were asleep. Confused and unsure of what was happening as he was grabbed out of bed and forced onto the floor with a rifle to his back. Efraim would hear Rolando and an agent arguing before Rolando was taken away with no explanation to Efraim or his siblings. As it turned out, an old secret that Rolando had was that he used to be a part of the Los Merodeadors Cartel years ago. Despite the fact, he left the cartel and even helped to bring his former partners down. He was a suspect when there was evidence that the Los Merodeadors was coming back and he might be involved. Efraim would not see his uncle for weeks before an OSA van stopped in front of their apartment building, opened up, and basically threw Rolando to the ground before speeding off. Efraim quickly went to help Rolando up and quickly brought him inside. Which Efraim was told what Rolando was allowed to tell him.

Efraim was outraged that such a thing was allowed to happen with impunity but, such a thing is what the OSA is allowed to do. He was fed up with the OSA and living in an Occidental System nation. Efraim wanted to leave despite protests by his siblings though Rolando understood Efraim's reasons for wanting to leave. It took two years for Efraim to gather enough money and get the clearance to live in Spain. He departed to Spain and felt happy that he was out of the Occidental System. Despite leaving, his family behind, Efraim kept in touch with his family and would speak to them regularly. In Spain, Efraim had a hard time getting a job and remembered what his uncle taught him about shooting and defending himself. So he chose to become a mercenary, and it took a while before Efraim was comfortable with it. Something that his family was not a fan of but eventually would stop pestering him about it.

Though unbeknownst to Efraim and the rest of his family that while his feelings about the OSA made him leave the country, his younger sister Tatiana would not sit idle after what happened to their uncle. She would join Asylum, and while she tries to keep it a secret and work to expose the OSA. Efraim would be working as a freelance mercenary and would just be returning home after a mission in Africa. If Efraim ever gets involved with Tatiana and Asylum it remains to be seen.

++ CHARACTER PROFILE; Beyza Teke
++ Punk

++ Name: Beyza Teke
++ Appearance:
Image

++ Role: Punk

++ Age: 20
++ Gender: Female
++ Nationality: Turkish
++ Residence: Gaziantep, Turkey
++ Affiliation: N/A

++ Build: 4'9", 120 lbs
++ Cybernetics / Genetic Enhancements: N/A
++ Equipment:
  • Panda Lunar 15 Laptop: The laptop of choice for Beyza and the one she usually uses for gaming. For the most part, she uses it to tap (or hack) into the government's internet servers, electrical objects and disrupt electrical properties owned by the government. It's not cheap, nor is it expensive, but it would do for her.
  • Panda Lunar Headset: A white headset associated with the Panda Lunar 15 laptop. She uses it to get in contact with someone, whether it'll be a fellow hacker or someone important, for as long as they're not associated with the Turkish government.
  • Binoculars: An item she uses to see difficult things. There's nothing special about it. However, the lens is a little foggy.
  • Panda Eclipse Z80 Smartphone: A white smartphone that's similar to the one she uses for the Panda Lunar 15 laptop. Like the laptop, she mainly uses it for hacking and has access to social media (outside of Turkey's country code, however), especially either with fellow hackers or someone important.
  • Leica Camera: A rare camera she bought at a black market. She prefers to use it to capture evidence and anything important rather than using it on her smartphone. It's antique but handy.
  • Arnis Sticks: Also known as bastons, they're primary weapons of Arnis and Filipino martial arts. She uses it to defend herself against enemies whenever she gets caught or is running away from them. They're better than using a gun, after all. Speaking of which, she's against killing.
  • Panda Smartwatch: A white smartwatch being used to keep track of time. There's nothing significant about it.

++ Skills:
  • Computer Hacking Intuition: Despite being a gamer, Beyza is already a skilled hacker with the advice of a Turkish player, teaching her the basics of hacktivism via computer hacking. Even better, it includes hacking into the government's internet servers, electrical objects and disrupt electrical properties owned by the government. And yes, even she can use her smartphone as a hacking tool. However, she's yet to show off her ability.
  • Honed Running: As a result of spending her time at a gym in an all-girls' Muslim school, Beyza can run faster and longer than normal humans. For example, she can outrun her enemies during a chase if possible or also outrun moving vehicles. Even amusing, she's likely to always be first in running races.
  • Video Game Intuition: Beyza is a skilled gamer, having played online games since 17 and kept playing for three years. She can outsmart someone in a video game (or computer game, for that matter) by defeating them above their skill level than they expected.
  • Urban Intuition: Having grown up in a city, Beyza knows urban areas. In other words, street smarts. She can effectively know her way around any metropolitan area and know who to trust and who not to trust, what areas are dangerous, etc.
  • Exceptional Parkour: Like the one mentioned before, Beyza is proficient in using parkour in the pinnacle of human capability, which can be summed up as either acrobatics meets military obstacle course. For instance, she can climb up walls, jump, run, evade obstacles, etc.
  • Makeshift Gadgeteer: Being a sharp problem solver, Beyza can craft nifty gadgets to get herself and others out of dangerous situations. It also includes creating weapons out of unlikely objects. In fact, the Arnis sticks Beyza created are made out of scrap metals.
  • Exceptional Combat Skill: Having studied various martial arts on the internet (outside of Turkey's country code, of course), Beyza's combat skill is enhanced to that of the very zenith of natural human potential. She can take down multiple opponents at once with this ability. However, her ability is limited to using a weapon, considering that she is not skilled in unarmed combat.
  • English Language: After studying it with an American player, Beyza can understand the English language via speaking and reading. It allows her to communicate with someone who speaks that target language, preventing a language barrier. And, of course, forming complex sentences.
  • Poker Face: Seeing life as a dangerous world allows Beyza to suppress negative emotions, making her remain calm at all times, even when under extreme emotional or physical distress. Also, it gives her a stoic personality.
  • Fighting Schemer/Chessmaster: Preferring to avoid engaging in a lengthy fight, Beyza can incorporate traps into her combat style or set up events to befall her opponent as she fights. It also makes her an excellent strategist, allowing her to come up with complex plans.
++ Weaknesses:
  • Allergy: Beyza is allergic to bananas.
  • Language Difficulty: Even though Beyza can understand English verbally (if not fluently), she cannot write in that target language. Ironically, the Turkish language is written in the Latin script (or the Turkish alphabet, to be exact) similar to what is being used in the English language.
  • Combat Limitation: Despite being skilled in combat, Beyza is only limited to using a weapon rather than fighting unarmed.
  • Against Guns: Beyza is against using guns.
  • Against Killing: Beyza is against killing; instead sparing their life despite committing horrible actions.

++ Personality: Beyza is a woman with a stoic personality, making it impossible for someone to make her angry. She prefers to work by herself rather than working with others unless necessary, and she gets paranoid of someone working for the Turkish government even though they might not even work for them. She's usually the one who comes up with complex strategical plans to try to avoid getting caught by someone. Unlike other vigilantes who prefer to use a gun, Beyza is against using guns, having a Batman-like character. She's prone to getting to the point as fast as possible other than making small talks, and listening to someone wasting their breath about something unimportant isn't worth her time. Her only focus is the mission, and that mission is trying to take down the Turkish government by any means necessary with the power of hacktivism. Beyza isn't a brutal person, only causing harm to her opponents when protecting herself but not willing to kill them for their actions, sparing them entirely.

++ Biography: Beyza was born in Istanbul, Turkey, but she moved along with her parents to Gaziantep, Turkey, to stay with her paternal grandparents because they couldn't afford to pay the rent for the apartment. At the age of 6, Beyza attended an all-girls' Muslim school as requested by her paternal grandparents but left at the age of 16 following suspicions of the Turkish government and other Muslim countries as she sees them as a threat to her safety. While eavesdropping one day, it also applies to her paternal grandparents as they encourage her and her parents to force her into attending a Muslim school again, but it didn't work as planned. A year later, she played online games on a computer and a video game console to take her stress away from the Muslim society she lives in and forget it. During her time at a Muslim school, Beyza often gets bullied because one of the girls considers her an outsider and doesn't fit in with others because of her unpopular background.

Since then, she chose not to contact her family again to avoid living that lifestyle. Two years later, she received a private message from a Turkish player, giving her knowledge about the basics of hacktivism and democracy, so she went on to study them until then. The following year, she studied English via private messages from an American player in the hope of getting in contact with native English speakers who might be part of the hacktivist community. Now, Beyza is ready to face the Turkish government and Muslim society to eliminate (or expose them to the public) an oppressive system haunting her since adolescence. And as trivia, Beyza is descended from a line of nobility called the Beylik of Teke in which was one of the frontier principalities established by Oghuz Turkish clans that existed after the decline of the Sultanate of Rum.

Having gone over this, there's some key things to understand and a few problems. While the idea of a punk character going against their authoritarian government isn't exactly uncommon for this setting, the way it's handled here doesn't really work with the setup of the thread.

a ) First and foremost, the way you've written the bio and the skills seems to indicate that the character has basically no real training and has near superhuman skill in a number of important areas. There's not really much way to reach peak human combat potential just from studying skills over the internet. Generally, combat skills have a basis. Formal training at a gym, training through the military, private courses offered to corporate agents, or even experience built up over the years in street fights. As useful as the internet is, it doesn't work as someone's entire tool for learning these skills. Experience matters too, and in the case of your melee based character, experience hitting others and getting hit. Someone that's only learned through online means is likely to fold as soon as they get into a real fight, especially when the stakes are serious and it's not just something like a training match.

b ) I won't dispute your character gaining hacking skills from a random person online, as this is a cyberpunk setting and the youth are pretty much always connected to the internet by 2089 - it's not that far of a stretch for someone to stray from regular internet activity to learning hacking. Do keep in mind, however, that Turkey is not like the Occidental System. The OS, being formed by mainly liberal democracies, still has a population that expects the rights and freedoms they had before the Occidental Accords. The Occidental Security Organization has a reputation for overreach, yes, but the state security apparatus in the OS is still limited somewhat by this expectation. If the OS cracks down too hard, it will have problems as less threatening dissident movements gain far more popular support and threaten to bring it down from the inside. It has to keep the appearance of being a perfect idyllic democracy. The Turkish government doesn't have any of these restrictions.

Turkey has never had a consistent moderate phase during this RP's timeline, and a state security apparatus with full power to act against the populace as well as military influenced politics is the expectation for Turkish citizens. Their state security forces can act with far more impunity compared to those in the OS. Why am I bringing this up? Because it's relevant to why this character is less plausible than the multiple dissident hackers based in the OS. These security forces keep a very close eye on the country and it's not the kind of place where you can just pick up hacking from anyone and take a stand against the government. You will come into conflict with state security forces by attempting to do this, which brings me to my next point.

c ) Your character isn't part of a larger organization, making them an easy target for those state security forces that you'll inevitably come in contact with. Especially as IC events coming up very soon are about to push Turkey into a larger crackdown against rebel factions. Someone like this would essentially be shipped off to a political prison as soon as they slip up with their identity even once. Her stated personality also ensures that she's screwed if she ever does end up in this kind of direct conflict.

This is the kind of setting where if you want to make a change, you have to get dirty yourself in the process - rebellion against an authoritarian government is a brutal thing, and the thread doesn't exactly gloss over that and portray plucky rebels advancing their cause without hurting anyone in the process. Note that in the timeline, there's been bombings, assassinations, etc as a result of political unrest. Your character's desire to not kill isn't going to be met by whatever serious allies she finds against the Turkish government, who will mostly have more hardline views because their resorting to more violent methods helps keep them alive. The state security forces, after all, are perfectly willing to kill rebels. To handicap yourself to non-lethal weapons and no guns while fighting them is a recipe for ending up dead or in a secret prison somewhere.

All in all, the concept works for the thread - like I said, a hacker fighting against an authoritarian government isn't something alien to the genre or the setting. However, I can't accept this app in its current state without lowering the standards of the setting. It devalues the struggles and problems of the other characters in the setting if one teenage girl from Turkey can learn near-superhuman skills with no formal training in any of them or any enhancements to help her with things like physicality, before going on to single-handedly pick a fight with a very powerful authoritarian government and take them on bloodlessly while reusing to use tried and true strategies such as guns and terrorist tactics. Hacktivism is a thing in this RP, yes. But you aren't going to take down a government like Turkey with just that. You have to get your hands dirty eventually, and this character isn't willing to do so. Therefore, the only way I could see her having success in this fight is if the standards of the thread were lowered and the government side were turned into morons just so she can remain alive and unimprisoned.

++ CHARACTER PROFILE; Conrad ‘Con’ Dallas
++ Soldier

++ Name: Conrad Decker Dallas, aka ‘Con’
++ Appearance:
Image

++ Role: Soldier

++ Age: 32
++ Gender: Male
++ Nationality: Canadian
++ Residence: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
++ Affiliation: Devil’s Brigade Solutions (DBS)

++ Build: 6’0”, 182lbs, lean-muscular build, with a lupine sort of Grace to his movements.

++ Cybernetics / Genetic Enhancements:
Sinetech Model 04 Cybernetic Prosthetic: Replacement for Conrad’s right arm to just below the elbow. Top of the line military model focusing on tactile dexterity and natural shape profile. When utilized with any model of adaptive camouflage semi powered or powered armours, the carbon fibre plating of the arm can change their colouring and texture to adapt to any environment and better blend into it.

Crimson Engineering Implant ‘Cerebral Companion’:
A small neural implant that allows for interface with a semi sentient AI of the user’s choosing to fulfill a variety of roles. In order to make the implant as safe as possible however, only semi-sentient AI’s can be utilized with this implant, anything more complex would require much more intrusive cybernetics and the risks that come with them. Conrad utilizes an AI he calls Virgil for a Command and Control role; processing battlefield data, providing communications uplink, defending him from hostile malware, and interacting with DBS support staff.

JTF2 Retro viral Enhancement package ‘80:
A bioengineered retroviral genetic enhancement suite given to all members of the Joint Task Force 2 counter terrorism and special operations unit. The virus modifies the recipients genes, streamlining reflexes, adrenal response, metabolic waste build up, and healing processes. Combined, it makes an already elite soldier approximately 22% more efficient in the field. A side effect of the treatment gives approximately 40% of recipients a ring of pale electric blue at the inner edge of the iris, regardless of previous colour.

Pupillary HUD Implant:
A common police and military implant an eye of the recipient’s choice. The implant tracks various information as ammunition count, GPS location, FoF identification, and communications.

++ Equipment:
C14A2 Modular Rifle System:
Colt Canada’s premier Caseless Ammunition Weapons system. Providing unmatched versatility in its adaptable weapons design, allowing for various rail attachments, quick change barrel lengths for a variety of ranges and battlefield roles, and specialist caseless ammunition choices for a variety of applications. Chambered in the 5.56mm Caseless NATO, the C14A2’s physical design is a call back to the immensely popular M4 design family.

Colt M1911:
A classic weapon, given a modern shine. The grips have been replaced by textured carbon fibre for superior handling and weight. Custom porting and venting, a thumbprint scanner to prevent anyone but the registered user from using the weapon, and specialized rounds are among the other modifications The modern world has imposed on a nearly two hundred year old design pattern.

Semi Sentient AI ‘Virgil’:
A command and control AI designed by Fiona Cheung, a technical operator at DBS. Interfacing with Conrad’s equipment and his own senses through a very limited biological feed via neural implant, Virgil processes incoming data and identifies potential threats to his bearer. Virgil also comes equipped with a streamlined suite of counter intrusion software; while competent, the software is no match for a skilled and determined intruder.

Tintagel Industries Semi Powered Armour Model ‘Galahad’:
The ultimate in long range operations semi-powered armour. Utilizing an active camouflage system, the composite plates of the semi powered armour will shift their colour and surface texture to mimic whatever terrain they happen to be touching. The semi powered nature of the armour helps prevent detection on the thermal scale by cooling the wearer to match background temperatures and help bear any loads the user might be carrying. Protection against small arms is on par with other semi powered combat suits, but shouldn’t be expected to provide significant additional strength or protection like a fully powered Armour model would. Additional features include helmet with IR, NV, and anti-flash visor, medkit, and composite armour add ons for war zones where stealth becomes less of an option and additional protection is required.

++ Skills: Skilled Special Operative, trained in a variety of environments. Speaks English and French. Leadership and Military Tactics. Skilled hand to hand combatant, with a preference for Knives.

++ Weaknesses: Stubborn. While this can be a source of great strength, it also means Conrad is more likely to stick to a losing fight than to rethink his options. Nerve damage in right arm. Has a slow burn temper, but once his flashpoint has been reached Conrad becomes impossible to reason with.

++ Personality:
Strong willed and adaptable, Conrad made for the perfect sort of platoon leader. You wanted to follow him into danger because he was willing to put himself through it beside you, and he would do his damndest to make sure you came home in one piece.

++ Biography: Born August 18th 2057 in Edmonton, Alberta, Conrad would prove to be a resourceful and tenacious child. Called Con by his friends, the young man grew up influenced by the early years of the Occidental System and the great Blackout of ‘67. With his parents, they helped hundreds of other Canadians who were affected by the Blackout. This led to a profound desire to serve his country in one manner or another, which ultimately led to Conrad enlisting in the Canadian Armed Forces through the Officer Candidacy School.

Graduating with a degree in English Literature and an official commission as a Second Lieutenant, Conrad would go on to command a Recon Platoon in the Canadian Army’s 3rd Division, 1st battalion ‘Princess Patricia’s Light Canadian Infantry’, Combat Support Company. Often tasked alongside other OS military units overseas, Conrad developed several relationships that last to this day amongst the various services and PMCs, including his eventual handler and EWAR support specialist at DBS, Fiona Cheung.

After a tour with the PPCLI, Conrad was inducted into the Elite Canadian Special Forces unit; Joint Taskforce 2, where he received a biological upgrade package as well as additional training that would form him into the small unit infantry leader that he is today.

Conrad’s time with the JTF2 would end in 2086, as the Peruvian civil war was beginning to heat up. Brought in as part of covert OS program to aid the Peruvian government in combating Marxist Insurgents, Conrad and his team were part of the Infamous Hotel Westin incident in San Isidro. Assisting a government raid on a suspected Marxist cell during a meeting with an arms dealer suspected of having foreign ties, Conrad was caught in the penultimate explosion that destroyed the hotel’s penthouse suite. Officially the incident didn’t involve any OS forces and the circumstances behind the raid were covered up by the Peruvian government, but for his trouble Conrad lost his right arm up to the elbow and received a medical discharge from the armed forces when the nerve damage was believed to be too severe for rehabilitation and cybernetic prosthesis.

Never one to quit, Conrad threw himself into physical therapy and an intense drug regiment designed to restore as much nerve function in his arm as possible. The procedure was only partially successful, bringing Conrad back into the range where cyber surgeons would consider an implant to be feasible, but not recommended. Pushing through anyway, Conrad successfully mastered his new arm after finding a doctor willing to operate on him. The procedure and the rehabilitation however went beyond the benefits he had as a Canadian Veteran and Citizen, forcing the once soldier into a shocking amount of debt.

Reaching out to his web of contacts, Conrad eventually found employment at Devil’s Brigade Services in Toronto; a small Canadian PMC specializing in elite infantry operatives able to take the fight to any environment, with an emphasis on enhanced cooperation with client’s existing military forces. To this day Conrad operates under DBS’ auspices, partnered with his friend and Handler, Fiona Cheung.

Yes - you can assume something that exists IRL also exists in the RP unless there's information stating otherwise.

This allows for streamlined use and usability for whatever programming, hacking, intrusion, or browsing one could require. As it is a neural implant, connecting with a network can be very exhausting for the user, requiring more physical stamina than a traditional computer might require.

Packed full of the latest intrusion software and programming tools, the AthenaWare Mobile node is the perfect tool for the Techie on the go.

Devil’s Brigade Security Workstation:

The DBS workstation is Fiona’s uplink to the world on company time, allowing her to provide support for agents in the field via the Net, communicate with clients on behalf of said Agents, and remain as anonymous as government permits and signal bouncing can make a computer network. The legitimate face of Fiona’s activities on the web.

AthenaWare ‘Trojan’:
Fiona’s personal home computer set up, utilizing components from the black and grey markets, this set up is as powerful and as off the grid as Fiona can make it. From her home computer network she spends her time attempting to sneak into Chinese systems, assist Canadian dissidents in hiding from the Occidental System, and generally getting places she shouldn’t be.

FN Five-seveN ‘80:
A small, compact pistol for personal défense chambered in FN’s proprietary, 5.7x28mm round. Lightweight carbon fibre body allows for a shooter with a smaller frame to pack enough firepower to put up a surprising amount of fight. ++ Biography:
Born in 2060 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Fiona’s parents escaped the Chinese invasion of Taiwan as children themselves in 2028. The youngest of four siblings, Fiona found herself always competing with her older brothers for the affections of their parents. This environment pushed Fiona to become a highly driven individual and away from the Taiwanese traditions of her parents towards more North American ones.

Even from a young age however, Fiona’s passion has always been for computers. Parsing the flow of data came as easily as breathing, and it was no surprise to her parents and close friends when she got accepted into UC Berkeley’s computer sciences program. It was during her time in California where she met Conrad Dallas. A kidnapping ring with ties to an Afghan terrorist cell made a high profile move on one Amanda Myers, scion to a Canadian Tech company studying at UC Berkeley. Caught in the crossfire between the Kidnappers and the JTF2 team that had been pursuing them across borders, Fiona managed to assist the fire team by remotely breaking into their cyber hardware and feeding information to the JTF2 Team led by LT. Dallas.

This feat granted her a certain amount of notoriety within the techie crowd, and a degree of fame as a local hero. Graduating with honours shortly after, Fiona however had a degree of tragedy strike when her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Faced with a multitude of job offers from government agencies and mega corporations, Fiona instead chose to work for an up and coming Canadian PMC: Devil’s Brigade Services. The DBS gave her choice in posting at any major Canadian city, so naturally the young woman decided to base herself out of Vancouver in order to be closer to her ailing father. She remains with DBS to this day as a mission handler and technical specialist, working with field agents like Conrad and interfacing with clients. Unlike most in her field, Fiona actually enjoys dealing with the public and has forged many close friendships throughout the years.

Despite her promising future however, Fiona has a bleeding heart for movements espousing nationalist sentiments of self determination, leading her to associate online with members of the Asylum, Canadian Nationalist protest groups, and the occasional Taiwanese diehard via her online Alias; Athena.

I've changed my mind; I will not participate in this RP due to time constraints. Sorry about that.

++ CHARACTER PROFILE; Libby Martins
++ Punk

++ Name: Libby Martins
++ Appearance:
Image

++ Role: Punk

++ Age: 19
++ Gender: Female
++ Nationality: American
++ Residence: Currently, the University of Houston campus in southeastern Houston. Formerly Miami, Florida.
++ Affiliation: The Asylum hacking collective.

++ Build: 5' 7", 119 lbs.
++ Cybernetics / Genetic Enhancements:
Designer Traits: Libby has been modified at birth to have an easier time developing and toning muscular tissues, supposedly intended for her to become an athlete in the future.
++ Equipment:
  • Knife: It's a knife. Good for stabbing people.
  • Colt M65 Handgun: A slightly older model of civilian handgun, reliable and undistinctive, relatively easily hidden.
  • Sony S84 Notepad: Libby's laptop for university work. A bit old, but it works. Has a alternate password that deletes pre-marked files and information and the password itself, and a second that deletes everything and bricks the laptop.
  • Theatre Mask (Anger): Her mask, for when she goes out under alias.

++ Skills: Libby, although not the largest physically, is nonetheless still a physical powerhouse, quick on her feet and with her fists. Having practiced martial arts since her childhood she's a capable unarmed fighter. She's also a fast sprinter when it comes to the art of running away.
++ Weaknesses: Libby's family has expectations of her; they paid for her enhancements, and have always pushed her into being an athlete regardless of her own desires or thoughts on the matter, which isn't helpful for her other activities. Although at university, she's not extraordinarily smart compared to some of her peers and most technical things will fly right over her head unless distilled down into something a bit more easy for her to understand.

++ Personality: Libby is, fundamentally, a rebel without a cause. She has deep-rooted issues with authority, authority figures and really anyone else thinking they can tell her what she can and can't do, being determined to carve her own path in life. She's somewhat rash and hotheaded, relishing the adrenaline rush she gets from picking fights but she tries her best to restrain herself when she's outside of the fighting mat, and can be very outspoken, having had to keep her mouth shut for most of her life and now taking almost every opportunity she gets to say what she wants to say.
++ Biography: Libby's life is one of expectations placed on her. Unfairly, she feels, not that her parents would say that. The third child of the well-off Martins family, Libby was enhanced to have superior muscular tissue development, making it easier for her to develop and tone it; a common enhancement given to those who their parents would have become athletes. Libby was no different. Her youth was largely spent either at school or with various trainers, hired by her family to train her in multiple sports, with the intent being to see which she made the most progress in and gradually narrow her training down over time to one particular area.

Libby didn't question it. It was simply normal, to her, to not have time to do what she wanted, to have to tell her friends that she was too busy to hang out after school to do schoolwork and exercise, but she started to grow resentful of having everything dictated to her, from what she ate in the form of dietary plans to what she would be doing at any given time, never having any choice in the matter for herself as she was taken to various sporting contests to compete. She never brought it up; she never quite had the courage or conviction to, never wanted the answer as to what the answer to challenging her parents would be, and instead she rode it out until she finally graduated.

She didn't quite have the grades for university, but that didn't matter; her athletic ability was enough to get her a scholarship at the University of Houston, which gave her her first real taste of freedom. She kept at her martial arts; they were why she was there, after all, with some saying she was a potential Olympic hopeful in the future, but it didn't take her long to find her way into the partying scene out of a desire to finally use her newfound freedom to enjoy herself a bit when she wasn't otherwise busy.

She was a relative latecomer to the Asylum; a prospective member met by one of the others at a party, later vetted by the Asylum and brought into it more for the physical muscle and extra manpower than her non-existent hacking abilities, but sometimes that's simply what was needed. Someone else to watch your back and offer a dose of common sense.
