Yes, I will. I was waiting for some more posts, but you can get going.

In fact, if you want, you don’t need a post from me to start the search. You can hatch a plan of attack already, or start asking about town.

Looking forward to it!

Sounds like a plan. I had posted my 2nd for Rooster, but when we get the blankets off that were strangling my roomie, we'll get something figured.

He and Rooster will have an interesting time together then.

Application
Name: Malachi Lee Pearce

Age: 58

Appearance: Malachi is tall and powerfully built; his shoulders are broad and sloping, his hands rough and calloused from hard labor. His face is long, with a narrow jaw, thick grey-black beard, and a bulbous nose that has been broken multiple times. The downward tilt of his eyes gives him a permanent hangdog expression that is mismatched with the fire in his deep blue eyes. A scar winds it's way from just beneath his right eye, across his mouth, to just below his right ear. He wears a long leather coat over his black broadcloth suit, as well as a broad-brimmed hat.

Place of Birth: Charleston, South Carolina

Relatives:
- Alberta Baker Pearce: Malachi's mother, Alberta is a ferocious and domineering woman, unquestioned queen of the family home in Kansas.
- Jonathan "Jack" Baker: Malachi's uncle, a boisterous farmer from Kansas.
- Wilhelmina Kruger Baker: Malachi's put-upon aunt, wife of Jack, second generation German immigrant.
- Walton Pearce: Malachi's deceased father. A committed and fierce abolitionist, he was shot and killed during John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry.
- Abraham Pearce: Malachi's elder brother, Abraham is a stoic, stolid man of few words. He owns and operates a general store in Kansas City.
- Esther Pearce: Malachi's elder sister, a quick-witted and sarcastic woman, Esther is the wife of a silver miner out in Nevada.
- Margot Collins Pearce: Malachi's wife, four years his junior, who took his son Zechariah and fled when Malachi's powers became apparent. Willful and headstrong.
- Zechariah Pearce: Malachi's son, now in his twenties. Malachi has not seen Zechariah since he was nine years old.

Previous professions:
Preacher, farmhand

First impressions: Malachi comes across as a stoic and impassible mountain of a man, with a half-mad glint in his eye and a coldly charming disposition that, occasionally, erupts into fiery passion.

Personality: A man of few words, Malachi is laconic and stoic most of the time, preferring to listen and observe over interjecting. However, on certain topics, including racial equality, slavery, and religion, he erupts, pontificating and bellowing with the best of the old Baptist preachers. He is startlingly eloquent for a farm boy from South Carolina, and has a charming and ingratiating way about him--not at all hindered by his rough-edged handsomeness.

Opinion of other characters:
- Calavera is a dusty old soul, who seems to carry an infinite weight of sorrow on his shoulders. Malachi doesn't wholly trust or understand him, but he thinks well of Calavera.

- Cactus Jack is a half-human abomination, a demon from hell wearing the skin of a plant. Malachi seeks to avoid him when possible, and would not mourn if Jack died permanently.

- Rooster is a quick-talking and slick charmer and gambler, both of which Malachi abhors. Most of Rooster's attempts to charm Malachi slide off like water on a smooth stone, but the preacher does have a soft spot for the old gunman.

- Maryam is a strange woman, although her power is very useful.

- Wesly is another slick one, much the same as Rooester. The self-serious Malachi gets along fine with both, although not perfectly.

- Isaac seems to be hiding something behind that quick wit. Malachi appreciates a good game of chess, though, and gets along well with him.

- Swift Thunder is a bitter young man, but Malachi has noticed his soft spot for God's creatures. He is also close in age to Malachi's own son Zechariah, and Malachi is somewhat protective of him.

Opinion of the mission: Those given special powers by the Lord must be kept in line somehow. If you abuse your abilities you don't deserve them.

Employment history: After his near-death in Boise, Malachi fled into the mountains. There, he was found by a U.S. Marshal, who told him of a way he could benefit his country using the powers that had almost gotten him killed.

Power/drawbacks:
- Dust of the Earth: From the unhealable gunshot wound in Malachi's side pours an endless stream of jet-black dust. This dust has a texture like that of shattered glass, and Malachi can telekinetically manipulate it for use as a slashing weapon or a dextrous tendril. Overuse of the Dust (continuous moderate usage for more than 1 hour) leads to Malachi fainting from blood loss; heavy use increases the size of his wound; extreme use or sustained heavy use will outright kill the Preacher from blood loss. Additionally, the Dust shouldn't be used to grab anything soft (like a person), as it is razor sharp. The Dust can come from any wound that pierces more than 6 inches beneath Malachi's skin; if it does, that wound will never heal, as the constant flow of razor-sharp dust keeps it open.

Equipment:
- 3 King James Bibles, one of which is the old Pearce family Bible.
- A pair of revolver pistols that hang, rarely used, from his belt

Bio: Malachi was born in 1832 in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of a banker and his wife. His father Walton was a vocal abolitionist, which made him highly unpopular in antebellum South Carolina. When Malachi was 14, the family moved to Kansas, where his father met John Brown. Walton was a frequent companion of the famed abolitionist, although Alberta forbade him from speaking of his more violent deeds to the children.

As a young man, Malachi was devoutly religious, and became a Methodist preacher. He travelled rural Kansas and Missouri on horseback, preaching and ministering to small, isolated towns. He was known for his fierce devotion to the lifestyle rules of Methodism, as well as his ability to command a room with his bombastic mannerisms.

In 1859, Malachi, Abraham, and their father Walton joined Brown in his ill-fated raid on Harper's Ferry. Walton was killed, but Malachi and Abraham managed to escape. Malachi fled far west, to the Montana territory, where he found work as an itinerant preacher in the Mountains and Plains. He made circuits across Montana, Idaho, and Washington, preaching in small, isolated mountain towns along the way.

In one of these small mountain towns, Malachi met Margot Collins, a headstrong and willful young woman, who he was immediately taken with. The young preacher stayed outside the Collins' homestead for three days and three nights, begging Margot's father for her hand in marriage: on the fourth day, Margot came out the door and slapped him across the face. Needless to say, Malachi was in love.

Every time he would pass by the Collins homestead, Malachi would ask to marry Margot. Every time Malachi asked to marry her, Margot would slap him. They wound up spending a great deal of time together this way, and Margot, to her consternation, actually fell for the rough-edged preacher man with his dusty hat. The next time he asked to marry her, she said yes before slapping him.

Margot and Malachi were wed in 1865, and six months later their son Zechariah was born. Malachi had never been happier, and he settled down in Boise, giving up his itinerant lifestyle in order to support his bride and son. All was well.

In 1874, however, things changed. A madman broke into the Pearce household and threatened Malachi and his family. He shot Malachi, and Malachi's power activated: the Dust poured forth from the wound, and slashed the gunman's head off. Horrified, Margot took Zechariah and fled, telling all who would listen that her husband was a witch. Malachi turned and ran into the mountains, bleeding heavily. Less than a day later, a U.S. Marshal found him and recruited him to the War Department.

My new post should be up tomorrow morning. A description of the town, mostly; it will be up to the players now to head out and explore.

Just to answer the question here, since we did a timeskip in the IC: the last sighting of Wexler was five years before.

It's a work in progress but it is a work

Happily accepted, I’m curious to see how a Brownite will react to having to chase an ex-confederate.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

OP - So does this mean that our characters have also heard that the townies think our characters are prospectors?

Yes, you can assume your characters were told about that little misunderstanding, as to make the investigation easier.

Thank you. That helps out a lot.

I will try to post in the next 24 hours or so. It's been a long week, and I'm still recovering.

It will have to be a little later. Forgot I had family coming and they always cut into RP time. But I will try to post tonight.

Yeah, I'm still here too. Had some things come up and didn't have the stability I needed to write.
