For nearly a thousand years mankind has been lorded over by the Celestial Emperors of Earth. From there glittering spires upon the cradle of mankind they have ruled, for many there rule has been and age of wealth, progress and stability. But all is not well within the Empire, the heart of the empire has grown decedent. Wealth and power has grown a generation of weak emperors, more interested in idly spending there time in gardens or carnal pleasures than ruling an empire. In there lack of rule has risen a new class of nobility. Men and women who rule through the power of iron and blood, piloting the deified personifications of death. There great war machines stride upon the battlefield of this crumbling age, a new symbol of a new age.
The age of gold was stripped away, the age of silver has tarnished, now is a time of iron, where blood will flow and the currency of power will be men lives. This is an age where the fate of mankind will be decided. Will someone rise up to claim the Celestial Crown of Earth and restore the glory of the Empire? Or is this age doomed to turn to rust and decay?
What is this?
Simply put this RP is set in the dying age of an interstellar empire. Years of inactive rule from the emperors on Old Earth have lead the Empires once robust bureaucracy to stagnate and grow to large to support itself, enterprising men and women have slowly over the last few centuries rose to the top, the head of noble houses that in theory answer to the emperor. To secure there power these nobles use the power of great war machines built in past ages, to have power in this age is to be a mech pilot. You will be one of these pilots, either attached to a noble house or cruising the stars as a mech for hire.
Whatever happens after that is up to you. Weather you will become the next emperor and lead mankind in a new direction or die trying, or perhaps your will become one of the new warlords or a new dark age. The choice is up to you.
An Empire Rotting
It is no lie that the Empire is starting its death spiral. Internally it is a mess. The remains of the old Imperial bureaucracy struggle with religious orders, errant knights and noble houses for power, the Emperor spends more time in his Venusian gardens than attending to the affairs of state and the outer rim remains a neglected backwater. The corruption gets worse the closer to the Throne World you come. Nobles take more interest in there own petty squabbles, the Imperial army stands helpless as noble houses settle there feuds with the stamping feet of mechs and the thundering roar of auto guns, its self often under the command of the local nobility rather than any central authority.
Than we come to the rotten core of this festering edifice, Earth. An entire world given over to the running of an empire and it cant even run itself. Gangs run the streets and the rich get away with murder by putting credits in the right hands. On a world with streets paved in gold the poor starve in the streets. Within the halls of the Imperial Palace the nobles of Sol scheme and plot to advance there own power and the Emperor sits, his mind distracted with the comforts of power but not in its practice.
A figure head in an age that needs a leader. Emperor Antony Abel IV of House Vath has ruled for 25 years, each of those years spent getting ever more hedonistic. The Imperial Court meets more in the gardens of Venus than the Palace of earth as the Emperor prefers the business of wine, food, and women than the business of his empire. But his time upon the mortal plane is nearing its end, at the age of 67 the emperor is nearing a premature death, weather it is poison or the effects of a lifetime of debauchery one cannot tell. But Emperor Antony is dying.
The succession is secure, however the Crown Prince is not much better than the Emperor himself. A vain, petty and selfish man Maximus Vath has neither the will nor the desire to rule, more content to let other do the work for him while he provides a stamp of approval. For the nobles of Sol, this a time ti rise into greater power, should one of them become the force behind the throne they will be the master of man.The Eastern Threat
To the galactic east upon the fringe of human space a second threat is rising. A great horde of xenos races has untied together and has begun an invasion of the Empire. With Earth seemingly deaf to the cries of help from the fringe it is up to the frontiersmen of the East to defend themselves. With laser rifle, rail gun and mech the peoples of the fringe have held the line thrice of the last twenty years. But worse is yet to come.
Days after the emperor took to his chambers ill a massive fleet of xenos, lead by the fearsome Phrixapear, entered the Juliot Sector, taking twenty worlds and enslaving billions of humans. Calls for aid have gone out to all corners of the Empire, noble houses have mustered there forces, holy orders are giving battler sermons to the faithful and the war against the Phrixapear is about to begin, with or without the Emperor even knowing his realm is at war.A Time of Uncertainty
Will the empire fall to alien invaders? Or will humanity stand against the tide once more? Will the Emperor become just a puppet to a noble? Or will the power struggle on Earth lead to open war? Or perhaps none of the Sol nobility will achieve there aims, but some other player out in the wider empire will take the reigns of power for himself?
What is certain is that these are dangerous times. Times of trial and tribulation. A time where all of humanity is tested. The current rulers of man will not stand to these coming times, this is the end of there age and a beginning of a new. These are times that forge great heroes and strong leaders, but it is still unknown if even great heroes will be able to rise to the power needed to lead mankind out of its own doom.
A Word on Mechs
Mechs are as much symbols as they are tools of war. A mech is power, security and the right to rule over other men. For as many worlds there are in the Empire there are mech designs. That is to say that you as the player are free to chose what your mechs look like and can do within reason. But there are some things I would like to talk about first before you scour the internet for your favorite mech designs.
• There are two classifications of mechs in the RP. Mechanical and Bioform. Mechanical are your standard mech fair, metal and hydraulics, a giant robot bristling with weapons piloted by a single occupant. Bioforms are different. Amalgamations of bio-engineered flesh and cybernetics, the pilot acts as a central nervous system for the Bioform. Further more a Bioform is unique to the individual pilot, gene coded to them, making it impossible for another pilot to use there mech.
• Your mech is symbol of noble power. Mech pilot and noble titles are one and the same, to be a pilot of a mech is to be the scion of a proud and noble linage. It is possible that your machine was used by your forefathers and bears the marks of previous masters.
• All mechs are subject to my preference, if I don't like what you have your mech capable off, armed with or whatever I will ask you to change it.
Noble Titles within the Empire
The Empire is rapidly turning into a feudalistic society, as the burden of government grows to heavy for the throne and power is split amongst smaller and smaller groups a system of noble titles has taken root. Note that this is not a complete list of noble titles. Just as there is a mech for every planet there is a title for every world. This is to give you a rough idea of the titles and how the rank with each other in the Empire.
• Knight: The lowest title one can hold. This title is what grants you the right to use a mech. Knights may be landed, holding parcels of a planets land or an orbital station. Unlanded knights are often called Questing or Errant Knights as they travel the cosmos seeking recognition and possibly a lord ship.
• Lord: Lords hold land. Sometimes this is just a single moon and a few mining stations or an entire planet. Lords often have several knights that they have granted land to that serve as commanders and retinue.
• Duke: Dukes hold sway over several planetary systems, with lords and knight under them they represent the middle tier of power in the Empire.
• Suzerain: The rulers of massive domains, these nobles are some of the most powerful people in the galaxy, commander several sectors of space. The title used to be a special assignment given to someone directly by the Emperor and was never a hereditary title. However, it now represents the second highest tier of hereditary power in the Empire.
• The Emperor rests at the top of noble ladder. However the Emperors power currently barley extends over his own house. Mars and Venus act as independent nations in an of themselves, Jupiter is a representation of the Empire in miniature, the Jovian moons each ruled over by a Lorldy House with the Jovian Duke ruling inefactivaly for Ganamede.
Its is possible that one person hold multiple titles. A duke may lord over several planets by himself, as well as being a knight, a Suzerain might also hold several title of duke. Keep in mind I have ultimate say in how you stack titles. If you app as just an errant knight you probably wont get looked at to hard.
