To: Josef Stalin, Premier of the Soviet Union
From: Francisco Franco, Caudillo of the Spanish State

Dear honorable Josef Stalin,

It has been brought to my attention that you have formally declared war on Estonia. If I may, I ask your reasoning for this declaration, and of any avenues that could lead the way to peace.

Kind regards,
Francisco Franco, Caudillo of the Spanish State

After sending the message, he decided to message Britain as well, as a contingency plan

To: Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
From: Francisco Franco, Caudillo of the Spanish State

Dear honorable Winston Churchill,

It has been brought to my attention that the Soviet Union have formally declared war on Estonia. This action concerns me, and I wish for communication as to how our two nations could potentially aid each other should the conflict escalate.

Kind regards,
Francisco Franco, Caudillo of the Spanish State

Dear Mr. Franco,

I hope this letter finds you well. You ask our reasoning for the declaration of war, that I will give you. Estonia recently rejected our lightest demands writing a letter simply saying: No. We wanted to give them a chance for peace, but they have rejected every option. I am afraid that there may be no way for peace to overcome this. I fear that the despicable powers of France and Britain will come to the aid of the cowardly Estonia and for that I request your help. Spain could be a great distraction to the allies and you would get much territory in France when the war is over.

Sincerely,

Joseph Stalin

“Damnit.”, thought Franco. He’d backed himself into a corner of his own creation. He thought carefully as to how to reply, then did.

To:Josef Stalin, Premier of the Soviet Union
From: Francisco Franco, Caudillo of the Spanish State

Dear honorable Josef Stalin,

While we appreciate your offer, we must politely decline. We are still recovering from our civil war, and are currently not in a good state militarily or economically to fight in a full-scale war with the likes of France and Britain. We hope that you understand.

Kind regards,
Francisco Franco, Caudillo of the Spanish State

Francisco breathed a sigh, then awaited an answer from Britain.

Germany has declared war on Estonia

In accordance with our pact with the Soviets, the Third Reich has declared war on Estonia. Immediate mobilization to secure the Baltic Sea has begun, and we are beginning deployment.

To the USSR

Dear Stalin,

My plan is to try and achieve naval supremacy in the Baltic Sea, to set back support from the UK and France. I will then use it to blockade Estonia, before deploying land forces and taking it. I assume the USSR will annex the entirety of the territory?

Europa bevindt zich op de rand van oorlog ... Nogmaals.

Image

The Great War was a horrific, brutal war... It sent millions of lives to their graves without remorse, without mercy. The Netherlands were lucky enough to stay neutral during that bloodshed. But, if war should break out across Europe once more, would the Dutch Kingdom get as lucky again?..

Picture details a destroyed bridge in the Belgian city of Liege, spurred on by the German invasion of the Kingdom of Belgium.

It would take a complete fool to be so naïve to believe that Europe... And the world had learnt from the destruction... The chaos of the Great War. All it takes is a look at the Geopolitics of the continent to see that peace would not continue, that another brutal conflict will, sooner or later burst into reality, as old and new powers clash once again.
Naturally, this is an issue that the Netherlands must not ignore. For instance, there are some arguments in the government on how the Kingdom should approach a potential Second Great War. There are many who believe that, like had been done in the Great War, the great powers of Europe would respect Dutch neutrality once more... On the other side, others would point out that to think that would be the case would be naïve, that one's luck couldn't, and should not be expected to last for a second time. Pointing at the ever more controlling Allied Powers of the French Republic and the United Kingdom, and the new, heavily militaristic and radical ideology which rules the former Weimar Republic, and the Kingdom of Italy, that it may be more prudent to pick a side to support in a potential future conflict instead of hoping that, once more the powers - that - be would respect the neutrality of the Netherlands...

But, the policy of neutrality is unlikely to be phased out anytime soon, and the simplest explanation as to why would to be look at the current Prime Minister of the Netherlands, and Queen Wilhelmina... Both avidly support the prospect, and would refuse to bring the Netherlands into a destructive conflict.
War is unlikely to break out for a few more years, but many expect for a major European war to take place before the 1930's completely end, or at the very least before 1945... Whilst plans and preparations can be drawn out as a preemptive measure, it is hard to act upon said actions... The Great Depression still heavily affects the Kingdom, and there are also many other issues that compound together to bring along a current stagnation of the Netherlands.

We can only guess... And pray for what the future holds for the Netherlands...

Securely Encrypted Transmission: Amsterdam, the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Madrid, Spain

"Great Caudillo Francisco Franco
Good day to you, sir Franco, and to all of Spain. I am Hendrik Colijn, the current Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
I wish to talk to you about the situation the continent of Europe is facing currently. I am almost certain that a second Great War between the powers - that - be across all of Europe will occur... I am not sure when, and certainly not how, but I think it would take quite the fool indeed to not see how much of the continent is gearing up once again in order to fight against one another once more, learning not a single lesson from the atrocity that was the Great War of the 1910's.

This is why I wish to talk to you, and Spain. Our nations were some of the only sensible places in Europe during the times of the Great war, choosing to avoid the bloodshed by any means necessary. Perhaps this is a little forward of me, but I would assume that both of our nations would rather not enter a deadly war, as we did not want to back when the Great War ravaged Europe.
The Netherlands would like to officially open up diplomacy with the Spanish State... Whilst I believe it would be a little forthcoming to ask for anything formal currently, say a mutual defense pact or the like, I believe that mutual cooperation could only be beneficial for both of our nations...

Now, I would ask you to reply at your earliest convenience at this point, but I do not believe that completely necessary. I will be off to attend some diplomatic summit of which I cannot divulge to you currently in the near future, and so I will not be present to read, and then follow - up on a return message.
I hope you can trust the Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands, sir Josef van Schaik to answer any return message in a timely, and acceptable manner, just as I could. The Netherlands will be waiting in anticipation for your response..."

Signed Hendrik Coljin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Message: Amsterdam, the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Paris, the French Third Republic

"Greetings to President Gaston Domergue of France.
This is Hendrik Coljin speaking. I have received your message personally, of which you have invited me to attend a diplomatic summit in London? You say that you wish to 'discuss the possibility of an alliance against fascism and communism', no?
In the light of the request, I will say this. I shall attend this summit in London personally, and I can leave Deputy Prime Minister Josef van Schaik to take my role during my absence. Though he supports a different political party within the Netherlands to my own, he has always been honest to me about it, and despite ideology we have come to a cordial relationship.

But, never mind that. I hope that you understand I will force myself to make no decision about this proposed alliance until I have finished at the summit. The Netherlands would be at the forefront of any potential conflict that could occur between the Entente powers, and the Third Reich should such a thing occur, so to throw in with the Allies would be very dangerous indeed.
Let me leave this discussion for London, however... I can weigh up the options the Netherlands have with any information or alternative viewpoints provided there.

Best wishes to you, and France."

Signed Hendrik Coljin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Message: Amsterdam, the Kingdom of the Netherlands to London, the United Kingdom

"Your honour Winston Churchill.
Good day to you, and all of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This is Hendrik Coljin, the president of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. I contact you because of a message the French Third Republic had sent me at an earlier date, inviting the Netherlands, me personally to attend a diplomatic summit within your capital city of London, to discuss the possibility of a second Entente alliance against the ideologies of Fascism, and Communism.
I would like to personally confirm with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom that I am permitted to make the journey to London in order to attend the summit in person.

I would ask you to make no assumptions on how the Netherlands will react to the prospects that may be brought up at the diplomatic summit, as many in my country are torn between neutrality, as we had done in the Great war, or interventionism. For instance, even if I decide to agree, or disagree to a clause or proposition, the population of my country may not.

May fortune continue to bless the United Kingdom, sir Churchill."

Signed Hendrik Coljin, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Encrypted Message: Amsterdam, the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Batavia, the Dutch East Indies.

"Sir de Jonge, General-Governer of the Dutch East Indies.
This is Hendrik Coljin speaking. I have received your... Well, rather vague update, and numerous requests that you had asked for via transmission, and now I have found the time to respond to you.

Firstly, we appreciate what information you have given us in the Home Country about the state of the colony. From what you are explaining, it seems that the Dutch East Indies are facing quite a bunch of problems that would need to be addressed. I would advise you to put the allocated military for the colony on standby. If any major protest or strike presents itself once more, I expect that you will not refrain from putting it down with force. You must remember, the stick can be just as valuable, perhaps ever more so that the carrot in some regards, punishment is a way of teaching, after all...
The Dutch Parliament has tossed around the idea of providing support for our colony, per your requests. We have come to a conclusion that, whilst you and your associates may reallocate an additional 15% of the supplies being sent home to the colony itself, we unfortunately cannot provide any support in terms of subsidies or supplies to the East Indies. You must understand that the situation within our own lands are still rather bitter, and most resources need to be dedicated to improving and revitalizing the economy of the Netherlands foremost.

Considering that I will be on a diplomatic summit soon, and that I would not completely trust my associate, Deputy Prime Minister Josef van Schaik in managing my duties to colonial procedure, I will allow you and your colleagues the autonomy to 'begin discussions with other nations around us for potential help with the situation', as you put it... From this point onwards, you may personally represent the Dutch East Indies on the international stage, however do not expect this to last forever.
You may be expected to rescind your new duties to me, or a future Prime Minister at any given time. Do not let me down, Bonifacius Cornelis de Jonge. I will be keeping a closer eye on our colony for now on, and that includes you and your colonial government."

Signed Hendrik Coljin, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Replies and Acceptance (答復和接受)

Postby Atheara » Wed Apr 07, 2021 3:56 pm

Mao Zedong, after reading the letter from Joseph Stalin, replies with another letter.
Dear Joseph Stalin,

I understand what you are trying to do, but at the current state of China, this will be very difficult to do. The Generalissimo has already planned Military Reforms and i do not want to give you difficulty for any problems here in Asia as you have to deal with Europe. I sincerely cannot tell anything major for now.

But, i do know that the Nationalist Parties will be preparing Defensive Measures at the border with Manchuria, it seems they know where the Japanese will try to attack on land, so if they accept the offer, tell them to not immediately go through there, they will be keeping half of their Military at their coastal cities, so it is easier to strike.

I hope you understand my situation.
Sincerely, Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Communist Party of China.

After Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek read the letter from Gaston Domergue, they both replies in lines of:
For Gaston Domergue,

We accept your offer for a Summit in the City of London. We hope it will be protected during anytime we talk about the current threats of Europe, seeing as we do not want any spies during the Summit.

We will arrive soon.
Sincerely, Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek.

To the USSR

Dear Stalin,

Because of my entry into the war, the USA has placed sanctions upon us. While this is merely a minor setback in the short run, I believe uninterrupted trade routes are necessary for us to be fighting the Allies. I propose we jointly invade Poland after we secure Estonia. This will allow land trade and will not be as risky as the Baltics.

With all due respect, I am allowed to point out IC, hidden stuff in an OOC sense... I'm not RP'ing my nation knowing about the dispatch, I'm saying it as a player.
Also, I felt like it was something worth pointing out... Since Italy hasn't agreed to any pact with the Third Reich at this point, they have no obligations to you. I'm not doing that because of any animosity, rather I believe that unless otherwise indicated, players should be given the liberty they deserve.

I hope I did not come off as overtly hostile New Jacobland.

Secretary of State Cordell Hull Addresses European War
Image

The Secretary of State of the United States, Cordell Hull, addressed before the press the issue of the European War and the policy the Roosevelt Administration would follow. "Our administration is committed to three basic principles; upholding international law, opposing violent revisions of the internationally recognized borders of sovereign states, and opposing wars of aggression. Our agenda is one of promoting international cooperation, peace and diplomatic resolution of disputes between sovereign states."

"To that end," the Secretary of State said, "we are imposing widespread economic sanctions upon states that act against international law, disregard the internationally recognized borders and wage wars of aggression. The United States has the greatest economy in the world, and we are more than willing to use our economic clout to force aggressors to stand down. In this European War, it is very clear that the aggressors are the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the German Reich. They attempted to force the Republic of Estonia to accept a tyrannical, dictatorial form of government and, when it refused as it has the right to do so, they declared war upon it. I have no doubt in my mind that the sanctions were the right and moral thing to do."

"The American public can rest assured that we have no wish to involve militarily in this European conflict, nor do we wish to further inflame this conflict. However, we must also let aggressive tyrants know that the United States won't tolerate military aggression against peaceful nations. We are taking a firm stance against wars of aggression. Our sanctions show that we are serious about our intends. And no one should mistake our commitment to diplomacy and peace as a sign of weakness. May God Bless America."

"Hmm...so the Dutch are staying neutral..." Hitler said in his office, looking at the newspaper, "This could be useful. I am nearly certain the Allies would not invade them, they could act as a buffer state."

He then looked up as his secretary came in.
"Letter from the Netherlands!" she reported, before exiting.

Hitler read the letter carefully, and thought of his options.
"This would be opening a whole new market for my industries, as well as give ourselves some strategic leverage. Seems like a fair deal."
Dear Netherlands Prime Minister,

The German Reich will respect Dutch neutrality. We also accept your offer to open up our industries. Some German companies are already preparing to move in and help the Netherlands out of the Depression. We look forward to increased cooperation between our nations.

Franco received the message from the Netherlands, and swiftly sent a reply.

To: Josef van Schaik, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Dear Josef van Schaik,

I have received the letter from your Prime Minister Hendrik Coljin requesting increased diplomacy between our two nations. I have given the prospect much thought and have decided to accept the offer. At your Prime Minister’s request, I will continue communication with you. Should you wish, I will have a diplomat sent to Amsterdam to continue our talks.

Kind regards,
Francisco Franco, Caudillo of the Spanish State

Secure Message: Amsterdam, the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Madrid, Spain

"Honourable Caudillo Francisco Franco
Good day to you. As your initiative to direct this message to me personally, instead of President Hendrik Colijn would assume, this is Deputy President Josef van Schaik, of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. I am personally glad that you, and all of Spain has not only responded to sir Colijn's dispatch to your nation, but has also done so positively, as I am sure all of the Netherlands is in addition.

Now then, though I would not have the jurisdiction to make this decision myself, without mr Colijn's permission, I am sure that he would not be fussed at all if we did not wait to formalize cordial relationships between our two great nations. If you wish to send a trusted diplomat over to Amsterdam to discuss the future that our nations could share with eachother, the Netherlands will always be willing to accept him or her.
If that proves too difficult to you, the Dutch Kingdom may be willing to visit Madrid instead. By any means, the choice is yours, sir Franco.
I see a great future our two nations could have between one another. Whilst the Dutch and Spanish were anything but friends when our lands were under Spanish Habsburg rule, in these modern days, we should not let past history brood animosity.

Best wishes to you, and all of Spain."

Signed Josef van Schaik, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Rome
Tanks began to slowly move out of manufacturing plants, to be sent to create a new armored regiment. Italy was having an ambitious plan. First their plan included a massive attack on Ethiopia and taking it over. Then invasion into Greece and Yugoslavia. But they need allies. But, so far they could stay isolated.

As the British force dashes through Estonia, they are attacked. The full brunt of the Latvian army encircles them at Viljandi. A bloody battle ensues as the Brits break out and run. 5000 British soldiers died in that 2 hour period; 7600 Latvians paid the price as well.

The Red Army broke the Estonian lines within a month. As they poured over, the Estonian and British squads moved to flank them. Estonia never stood a chance.

Spanish message.
I seek to work with you, Mr. Francisco. We share a mutual hatred of communism, yes? I would like to cordially invite you to London along with the leaders of France, Holland, and China. I hope we can reach an agreement to ward the threat that looms over us today.
