Origins: born in Benkovac, Croatia, a town of previous unrest and violence. Some things stay in local memory.
Role: Military. Chief Warrant Officer 4, W-4. Warfare specialist. A short few ranks below ensign.

Strengths: Physically fit and then some. He's also tall, muscular, athletic, and an outstanding soldier. Excels in heavy weapons, demolitions, tactics, setting and detecting ambushes, as well as making and carrying out threats. His training has prepared him for wilderness survival in all terrains and areas. He is proficient in hand to hand combat (using a mixture of the hap-ki-do and Krav Maga forms), in knife fighting, and in psychological warfare. No cybernetics - partly out of getting passed over by hesitant superior officers, partly out of pride in being strong without having to rely on gadgets to do it.
Weaknesses: Emerik can rub people the wrong way with his brash attitude. He is out to be #1 - even if it means intimidating, mocking, or one-upping those he considers rivals. He is obedient to orders - even if those orders break laws or moral ethics. This can be a weakness depending on what orders he gets. At the same time, if he senses weakness in a commanding officer, he'll not be hesitant about voicing the weakness of his officer, and also moving himself into a position of greater power to take authority.

Equipment: Heavy machine gun with flamethrower attachment and 2 bandoliers of extra ammo; Ruger pistol as a backup; 3-4 clips of backup Ruger ammo; combat knife; rations; gauze and a small roll of medical tape; comm signal; night / infrared goggles; geo-topographical terrain mapper (helps chart out terrain in unfamiliar locations by sending and receiving signals in a 2 mile radius). Old-fashioned dog tags.

Biography: Born into poverty to a blue collar brawler in Benkovac, Croatia, Emerik Medved grew up having to prove himself again and again in confrontations with older children and sometimes his father. Receiving a basic public education and being cynical at a lot of what he was taught, Emerik graduated without distinction with mediocre academic grades. His main school of learning was the school of hard knocks. In the dog-eat-dog world of the streets of Eastern Europe, Emerik took his scrapes but also came out on top the majority of the time in neighborhood territory disputes. Peace treaties and governments supposedly working together never seemed realistic to Emerik, coming from areas where might often determined right.

Seeing the Navy both as a way to improve himself, stay in peak physical shape, get some money and get out of town, Emerik enlisted at age 18 at the Lora Naval base in Split, Croatia. There, he rose in the respect of his superiors and was admitted into warrant officer training, which he completed and passed at age 22. From there, he honed his weapons skills, despite there being a lull in world combat since the 3rd World War.

Hearing of Operation Starlight and its efforts, Emerik volunteered to go - partly out of a desire to defend Earth from hostile alien forces (if there was alien life at all), and partly out of pressure by Admiral Juric, who saw the Croat warrant officer as a pain in the ass and just wanted to be rid of him. Juric gave a pretty nice incentive - either volunteer for Operation Starlight, or get dishonorably discharged and potentially jailed due to a growing list of troubles in his units brought about by his disagreeable attitude. Emerik shrugged the threat off and left just so he might kick some aliens back to where they came from. He completed his space training at the Houston space center in North America, and now is ready to see what lies beyond the gateway.

Psychological Profile: An alpha male. Dominant. Strong willed. Sometimes is a bully. Borderline psychotic. Has been prescribed anti-psychotics for those times his condition takes over too much - but at the same time, his commanding officers generally want stronger soldiers who are effective and resilient at what they do. Some of them have at times commanded Emerik to regard his meds as optional suggestions, lest he become too docile.

Other Information: Respects strength. Looks down on weakness and readily takes advantage of the weak. Hates negotiations, preferring to state demands and have those demands immediately accepted.
