DEPARTMENT OF CONTRACT MANAGEMENT

Hello, (INSERT CONTRACTOR NAME)

Samael Corp wishes that this letter finds you well and hale at the present moment. The purpose of this correspondence is to notify you of your selection to participate in Samael Corp's newest security contract. As with all international contracts, the company shall furnish your room and board, transportation, and any other expenditures incurred as part of the contract. The contract is a six-month commitment of a security contingent to the Almodavar National Park in Peru.

Almodavar National Park holds over twenty-thousand acres of government-protected Amazonian rain forest. Thousands of species of flora and fauna call Almodavar their home, as do the two indigenous tribes that have resided in this forest for centuries. The government administers the park as a protected reserve on a number of levels; cultural, environment, and historical, to name a few. The park and the adjoining tributaries were spared from civilized contact on up until the 1960s. Since then, Almodavar is under the constant threat of illegal encroachment from illegal miners and loggers, drug cartels, and corrupt government officials - to name a few. It's getting bad enough that the occasional arrival of an army battalion does nothing to deter them. That's where we come in. A rotating, permanent security presence in the area.

As of the present - June 2019 - the Peruvian government has contracted Samael Corp's services in rectifying the deteriorating security situation, with Samael providing a small team of experienced contractors to address the issues in Alhambra. A preliminary intelligence report is available, compiled by our own in-house intelligence analysts and those of the Peruvian government. No less than five illegal logging operations are operating persistently and pervasively throughout Almodavar. Criminal in nature, these loggers are no strangers to violence. Sixteen individuals from the Yahari and Megasa tribes, four aid workers and one Peruvian police officer have met violent deaths at the hands of these loggers, in this year alone. At other times, loggers have kidnapped native tribespeople and aid workers, holding them for ransom or, especially in the case of tribeswomen, selling them off to human traffickers. Thirty acres of rain forest in the northeast is already deforested through their activities, and the jeep trails that cross around much of the park transform into bonafide dirt roads for the ease of moving large forestry equipment.

The Sol Azul drug cartel is another violent actor within the confines of the park. Through their many drug labs and farms scattered in the Peruvian and Brazilian jungles, this once unknown group is rapidly ascending to be the second-largest supplier and producer of cocaine and heroin in the continent. They have been designated as a terrorist group by the United States, as well as by almost every country in South America, for carrying out brazen planned engagements against authorities and using car bombs as a method of terrorizing anyone with a voice to speak against them. While the logging gangs tend to encroach upon areas of the park, Sol Azul has - for the most part - avoided a direct confrontation with the park authorities, aid workers, and native tribes.

Once the operation has been launched, your team will be stationed at the main ranger compound in the park, with an area of operations that covers the entirety of Almodavar. You will operate at the discretion of your team leader, who will in turn be coordinating with friendly assets on the ground in order to commence missions that are beneficial to the overall security situation. Expect to conduct vehicle and foot patrols across the jungle landscape, in addition to other tasks such as reconnaissance, force protection, and hostage rescue.

As per our SOP for deployments, you will be required to complete the following form, which consists of a basic biographical survey and a requisition list so that you may list the equipment that you will bring with you to Almodavar. Resupply missions will be commenced at the direction of the Team Leader. At 0500 Eastern Standard, on the twenty-first of June, you will be given forty-eight hours to arrive at the staging compound in Iquitos; from there, you will take a helicopter and boat convoy to the ranger compound in Almodavar. Equipment, food, water, munitions, lodgings, and vehicles have been purchased and will be on site once you arrive. From there

We wish you the best of luck.

Signed,
Flora Guillames
Director of Contract Management
Samael Corporation Main Office, Tel Aviv

Rules & Guidelines

  • It's my RP, so whatever I say goes.
  • If I want Co-OPs, I will appoint them purely based upon nepotism.
  • All standard conventions of forum roleplay apply.
  • This is a work of realistic fiction. Whether or not such events, as depicted in this RP, would happen in reality is up for debate. The issues depicted are complex, and I intend to do my best to avoid falling into stereotypical or offensive cliches. Worlds are colliding here and high-intensity events are happening, but remember that above all, this is a roleplay.
  • Keep things PG-13. There will be violence, depictions of carnage, and things that may outrage you, but we are not here to take violence and things that unsettle us to upsetting extremes.
  • When it comes to combat, I expect your posts to be tethered to realism in such a circumstance. Running and gunning is physically and mentally exerting. You're not going to be hitting a target with every shot, nor will you always be able to glass twenty guys at once. I'm not opposed to plausibly killing one or two NPCs in a post, but I will take issue if you're trying to end an engagement in a single post.
  • This is a co-operative RP, so there is no mercy for running off to do your own thing. Myself and my co-OPs are providing an experience for the group as a whole to effect the plot and the events as they go along. I don't have the energy to be endorsing solo posts; on that same token, I will not react kindly towards characters attempting to pull out of their asses, something that could be considered "overpowered." Your asset is your team, so don't expect to, for example, have your own personal military formation, or a majority stake in Samael.
  • If you act stupid or try to pull off something that clearly won't work, expect consequences. I'm not prone to killing off characters without a specific important reason, but like many things, that reason comes down to my personal ruminations. At the very least, you'll get to roleplay being confined to a bed after catching a grievous combat injury or an illness. In the worst of circumstances, if you're dead - you're dead.
  • Alert me if you see the word "Alhambra" written anywhere in place of "Almodavar."

Allied Groups in Almodavar

  • YAHARI TRIBE - One of two indigenous tribes residing in Almodavar, with a focus upon a fishing-based existence of subsistence along the sandy bands of the Almodavar Tributary. Between the tribes, the Yahari maintain a relationship with the outside world, positioned along a waterway in the immediate vicinity of the Almodavar Park Center. The tribespeople maintain a village with a population of ninety, living in mud-and-thatch huts. Although outside influence is encroaching upon the Yahari in the limited adoption of medical treatment and clothing and food, there is a strong sense of cultural pride and unity among the tribespeople, and the majority are steadfast in refusing total assimilation with the outside world.
  • MEGASA TRIBE - One of two indigenous tribes residing in Almodavar, and the smallest group at an unsteady estimate of seventy individuals. The Megasa are found in dispersed living groups around the perimeter of the park, often in areas accessible only by narrow footpaths found throughout the dense jungle. These groups do not exceed ten individuals and occupy a semi-pastoral life in the jungle, where they go through periods of war and peace with each other. Contact between the Megasa and outsiders is uncommon, due to the remoteness of their settlements and desire for a lack of outside contact, although the tribespeople are known to seek out the rangers or NGOs in times of serious need. Some groups are rumored to be uncontacted.
  • ALMODAVAR RANGER CONTINGENT - An agency of the Peruvian government provides Almodavar with a group of ten rangers, responsible for maintaining the environment and ensuring the survival of the local tribes. Although the rank-and-file rangers are considered by most to be dedicated to their role in the park and serious in the commission of their duties, they are often at the mercy of corrupt activities by their commanders and the board overseeing the park. With the arrival of Samael contractors, the rangers are preparing for the difficult task of ensuring that the contractors and the park at large can coexist and deal with the threats posed by the loggers and cartel.
  • ALMODAVAR AID MISSION - An international NGO focused around providing aid to the Yahari and Megasa. Sitting pretty at the old age of six months, the AAM sprouted after a number of American celebrities visited Almodavar Park in the purported interest of shedding light on the woes facing the park's inhabitants. Donations range from small-pocket gifts motivated from television ads, to big-money grants in the tens of millions. Ironically, a large portion of their money was used to clearcut the rest of the Park Center for the addition of additional buildings and an airstrip for bringing in supplies. Teams of aid workers are sent by boat or 4x4, and sometimes helicopter, to assist the Yahari and Megasa. A large number of self-purported celebrities can be found at any given time among the ranks of the aid workers, although a decent minority have marketable skills that truly do offer benefit to those who need it.
  • SAMAEL CORPORATION - A Tel Aviv-based private military and security contracting service that specializes in employing small teams of contractors to defend public and private interests against violent non-state actors. While its main office is Israeli-based, there are numerous smaller offices located internationally, and the majority of contractors reside where they please when not on the job.

The Compound (WiP)

The main base of operations is located at what is known as Park Center: the public entrance and visitor center for Almodavar. It is only accessible by air, via a recently-constructed airstrip or by helicopter on a suitable landing zone; or by boat, via the tributary.

MISSION PERSONNEL FORM

Image
WALSH-BATTAGLIA, E.R.

  • NAME: Esteban Ramiro Walsh Battaglia. Typically goes by Esteban Walsh.
  • AGE: Thirty-three.
  • GENDER: Male.
  • ETHNICITY: Irish-Hispanic descent. Father is a second-generation Irish immigrant, part of a much broader extended Irish-Mexican family of mixed ethnicities with earlier roots in Mexico dating back to the 1850s. Mother is of Italo-Spanish heritage.0
  • NATIONALITY: Naturalized US Citizen.
  • CITY/TOWN OF PRIMARY RESIDENCE: Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

  • DEMEANOR: By most accounts, Walsh is a relaxed and approachable individual amid a career field in which a lot of gruff and rugged individuals make their way from job to job. Towards colleagues, principals, friendlies, and bystanders, Esteban is pleasant, conversation when the situation allows. Despite being an approachable person, Esteban carries all of the hallmarks of someone who is trained; he keeps his back straight, legs shoulder-width apart, and his head is usually swiveling at some speed from left to right. His walking pace is deliberate and often quick, as though he has already thought about where it is he needs to be moving to.
  • PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Esteban is five feet, eleven inches in height, and weighs in at one-hundred and seventy-four pounds. While certainly not a bulky slab of muscle and skin like other operators, Esteban occupies a more lean musculature. In no way is he physically weak; he can carry a wounded man with their combat load and weapon on his shoulders, and his exercises - intense swimming and running regimens - aid him in maintaining a high level of endurance necessary for his work. Otherwise, Esteban is a rather unremarkable figure among a crowd.
  • MOTIVATIONS: Contract work has made Walsh a moderately wealthy man, much so that he owns a house in Florida and a cabin property in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. At the present, Walsh is focused on going into an early retirement after he secures something that can give him sustaining income while he lives a life of leisure. Currently engaged, Esteban would like nothing more than to live comfortably and worry-free while bringing his future family into a good life.
  • EDUCATION:
    • Martial - In his service, Esteban has graduated from a variety of training courses. Attendance of advanced combat courses, particularly in maritime boarding conditions and urban environments, helped to elevate him into elite formations of the Marines, eventually culminating in four years of service in the Naval Special Forces. In addition to attending airborne school in Mexico, Esteban completed advanced jump training and HALO through the US Army, and he has graduated through the US Marine Corps' FAST schools. Interestingly enough, Esteban is also a graduate of the infamous Kabiles School; the selection force for Guatemala's special forces. Esteban is also rated to operate boats ranging up to the size of a cabin cruiser.
    • Academic - Esteban holds a Bachelor's Degree from UC San Diego, majoring in History with a minor in English.
  • KNOWN LANGUAGES: Esteban is bilingual, growing up in a household where English and Spanish were both used in equal frequencies by his parents and siblings. While his Spanish is rooted primarily in Mexican Spanish, he understands and can incorporate other regional Spanish dialects. He maintains a "neutral" American accent with his English, although certain words and pronunciations carry either a Spanish or Irish twang to them. Esteban can read and understand the Kurmanji language, and his speaking ability is on a conversational level.
  • PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
    • Mexican Navy, 2004-2012; service with Naval Infantry and Naval Special Forces during counter-narcotic operations. Honorably discharged as a Lieutenant.
    • Independent Security Contractor, 2012-2016; worked as a close protection agent for multiple high-profile clients in Southern California and Baja California whilst attending UC San Diego.
    • Syrian Democratic Forces, 2016-2017; served with YPG during Raqqa Campaign.
    • Samael Corporation, 2017-Present; worked as a facility guard at an oil facility in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

  • AMOUNT OF TIME WITH SAMAEL: Two years.
  • PRIMARY ARMAMENTS:
    • Remington M4A1 Carbine, with an Aimpoint T1 red dot with a 3x magnifier and a rail-mounted foregrip.
    • Federal M201-Z Riot Gas Gun, typically kept in the vehicle.
    • Glock 19 with underbarrel flashlight.
  • PERTINENT EQUIPMENT:
    • 9 x pre-loaded 30-round plastic STANAG magazines, 5.56mm.
    • 10 x 38mm Gas Grenades.
    • 8 x 38mm Smoke Grenades; Blue, Red, Yellow, Purple.
    • 4 x 15-round pre-loaded pistol magazines, 9mm.
    • OD Green 3-Day Assault Rucksack.
    • AN/PRC-148 MBIT Radio, with earpiece and PTT device.
    • TASER device with four charges.
    • 6 x plastic flex-cuffs.
    • 1 x 300-count bag of zip-ties.
    • 1 x 24-inch retractable steel baton.
    • 2 x 24-pack batteries.
    • Infantry First Aid Kit, worn on vest.
    • Black flashlight.
    • Multitool.
    • Utility Knife.
    • Folding Shovel.
    • Tool Kit, kept in vehicle.
    • 1-Quart Canteen.
    • Compass.
    • 100-foot spool of paracord.

    • Rifle cleaning kit.
    • M40 Gas Mask with three filters.
    • Binoculars.
    • 3 x Bic Lighters.
    • 2 x pouches, Red Man Original Chewing Tobacco.
    • 2 x cigarette packs, Marlboro Red Short.
  • UNIFORM: Esteban opts for civilian attire in this current operation. Typical wear includes a button-down shirt of subdued colors like navy blue or OD green, with the sleeves either rolled up or pre-made short; a pair of khaki tan (or sometimes green) cargo pants worn with a black rigger belt; and lightweight jungle combat boots. For body armor and load-bearing, Esteban has an OCP-colored MFH "Ranger" plate carrier with Level III+ hard plates. When it comes to headgear, Esteban will alternate between an OD green baseball cap absent of logos, or a MICH-style kevlar helmet. Esteban also has a pair of Goretex overpants and a Goretex jacket as his rain gear, colored in M81 Woodland pattern and usually kept in either his pack or the vehicle. Occasionally in cooler temperatures, he will wear an OD green fleece jacket.
  • ROLE: Principally a standard contractor; although Esteban is a potential helmsman for any riverine operations and a trained driver. In the event that planning and leadership is needed, he can assist with directing and leading the force in its operations. His loadout includes non-lethal weapon options and physical restraints, so in the event that the team must detain a subject, he can provide reception for and control of any detainees until the point at which government forces can arrive to take custody.
  • BIOGRAPHY:
"Walsh doesn't sound very Mexican, or what you would assume a 'Mexican' name to sound like. It surprises some people, especially since I also don't fit the bill for a 'Mexican,' because I look more white than people think a Mexican would be. It's pretty narrow-minded, when you look at things in that lense. I am proudly Mexican; the Walshes, O'Bannons, and the Shaughnessies - my paternal roots - have been in Mexico since before the French invasion and the American Civil War. It's a source of pride for me; I may be a US citizen for the convenience, but I fought for Mexico just like my ancestors. But, I am getting carried away; this is an autobiography for work, after all."

"I grew up middle-class in Tijuana, second of four kids to a hotelier and a teacher. Bernard, my father, GM'ed an American-owned resort hotel and made a killing, given all of the foreign tourists that got brought in. Hell, that hotel even built a townhouse for us. The war - wasn't that back then, as far as I could tell - was something that we heard about from Sinaloa, Guadalajara. Of course, drugs got in because of the tourists, but I never remember particularly being in danger as a kid, growing up in the 'good' part of Tijuana."

"Why did I join the Navy? Naivety, and a desire to 'get some action' before I went off to college. My parents and siblings sure thought it was stupid, but yes, I was stupid back then - but one thing I am good at is following through with my bad decisions, and making some damn good lemonade with bad lemons. So yeah, I joined the Naval Infantry for the dumbest reason possible, because the pay is shit. Really, the recruiter moved me in that direction. If you talk to a US Marine, they usually tell you about how shitty their training is, and that goes for me. I got my asses handed to me by my sergeants, just like everyone else. But as a Mexican Marine, you aren't some Army goon working a checkpoint and fleecing civilians. The organization trains to out-gun and out-maneuver the sicarios in gun battles; we get called in when you need more than Federales and soldiers."

"I went in just as the War was heating up. The government got heavy, and the cartels grew more ruthless. They started me out on the Gulf, boarding ships and hunting for drugs in transit to the United States and Europe. Got a diving cert back in the early days, and that helped my career out. Never really any firefights, not like you would see on land. Maybe someone would pop off a handgun or an AK, at the most, and either they would throw it down right after, run off, or one of the snipers would nail them. On land, we rolled into cartel haciendas and city blocks with AMTRACs, and then went room-to-room, building-to-building, with orders to kill anyone who wasn't on the ground with their hands on their head. I didn't realize how intense it all was until I went to Syria; that is what most people to be a war, but goddamn, the intensity is all the same. We don't have millions displaced - yet, but we are damn close approaching that number in regards to people leaving. Hell, my folks all left for the United States by 2010, and I followed two years later. I will get to that later."

"I caught the eye of some of the senior NCOs; while I didn't have the best training marks, I had been on plenty of boarding parties and land raids, enough to show my immediate leadership that they could depend on me in the middle of an engagement. If there was a task, I worked to get it done. In turn, my name started going around the service. The government looked at me and saw that I was an investment; hundreds of thousands - if not a million - of dollars covered my training, got me the best equipment. Navy pay is better than the Army's, but since the Naval Special Forces were putting me on course for the unit, my pay was substantially raised. FE is high-risk, demanding in regards to the assignments that we commence. Instead of rolling in with the AMTRACs, we often moved ahead of police or military movements to provide reconnaissance, and then commenced our own assaults, especially when it came to high-value targets."

"I got out of Mexico two years after the rest of the family left for the US. When it comes to immigration, my family had the privilege of not only looking and sounding Caucasian enough, but the added benefit of extended family born in the US. It was a break, if anything; after serving for eight years through the War, I chose to go to the US and go to college. Although I had money, college would have been damn expensive without a student visa or scholarships. My rent was low, because my sister and brother-in-law were in the business of renting and managing San Diego condos, and they were more than happy to board me somewhere."

"While I went to college, there was a need for me to work and make money. I put two and two together; with a military background and a laptop connected to the Internet, I could find work and market myself. In San Diego, there was enough irrational fear - of getting picked off, stalked, the War - that the rich and affluent are willing to hire security. Worked my way from guarding backstage rooms to, by the time I graduated, a team leader in the armed escort detail for an African exile by the name of Yves Cambulo. The Cambulo job was great money, even if I almost flunked out of UCSD. A family of ten is constantly moving about, calling people in at the worst hours to accompany them to galas, or diplomatic events, or whatever. My classmates ate that shit up; when I would walk in after a week of being in Pretoria or Nairobi or somewhere, and hand the Prof copies of my tickets and show him my passport. Some of the Profs were cool; others picked a bone."

"I have gotten some questions, especially from Samael, about my affairs in the Middle East. I totally get it and I won't shy away from saying that it was 'war tourism,' but a good deal of my motivation for joining the YPG was based upon being horny for a girl in one of my classes: one Hamdana Rekani, soon to be Hamdana Walsh. Anyways, she and I kicked it off in our International Relations class, with one shared quality being that we were a little bit older than the other students, and despite the vast differences, we had both served. Hamdana's family has been in the US since the '80s, after fleeing Iraqi Kurdistan. The GI Bill was paying for her to go to college; Hamdana was a flight medic with the 10th Mountain Division, and did a tour in Afghanistan. We both got each other quick, understanding one another and finding enough common ground. She was, and still is, very passionate about what was happening in Syria - to the degree where she wanted to act. I more or less hopped on the ride when she told me, a few days after Graduation, that she was planning on going to Syria. She left the door open; asked me if I wanted to go, even if it meant that we might not serve in the same unit. I chose to go, even though it meant that I had to quit working for a while."

"We flew from San Diego to Charlotte; caught a lay-over and watched a Panthers game. Then, we flew to Zurich, and finally Slemani, Iraq. Our contacts at the airport rallied us up with some other foreign volunteers and brought us to a quiet arms bazaar, where we were instructed to buy our own gear. I chose an AKM, some body armor, a helmet, and a halfway decent radio. God bless the YPG, but training was a nightmare in the sense that some of our instructors knew very little about the weapons systems and tactics they were training us in. Sometimes I got a refresher here or there, but everything was mostly under-par compared to what I had been conditioned for. I was ready to fight Daesh, impatient as all hell to get my blood flowing again. Eventually, I got my wish in Raqqa. They initially forced me to drive truck in the rear, but then I was put on foot with the companies clearing out the villages around Raqqa City of Daesh fighters. I took over a fireteam and earned some rep or it from my betters. I used the tactics that the FE showed me, the moves I used when cleaning out haciendas, ships, and city blocks. It also helped that I knew a handful of the American SOF guys embedded with us; most from Jump School, one from CQB, and two - one a 'Cuaz' - from my graduating class at the Kaibiles School. Shit flowed smooth for us - well, as smooth as urban warfare can be."

"I didn't see Hamdana until after we had consolidated our hold over most of Raqqa and the surrounding villages. By January, I was ready to go the hell home. My term was up, and I asked her to come back to the US with me. She agreed, albeit it was a hard choice for her to make, even though she is still working for her cause outside of the battlefield. While Hamdana works with a Kurdish advocacy group, I sold myself to Samael when their recruiters sent me an email. Did some training stateside, and then took my first job guarding oil fields in the Niger River Delta. Fairly lax, in the sense that I only fired ten shots from my weapon. Ten shots, all fired defensively, not hitting but scaring. Most of my time was spent walking about the complex with a rifle."

"And here we are, arriving at my second contract. Peru, apparently, to protect aid workers. Much fun."

Here we go! Anything particular you would really like? If not, I am thinking of doing a native guide character, former Ranger, who got sick of the corruption and just wants to take the fight to the enemy.

Or could I reserve the A-10 warthog pilot. :p

Having a guide/interpreter with local rapport and an understanding of the AO would be great!

Gald made this beautiful card via Photoshop. Now, if you want to make one for yourselves, I would wager that you could actually use Paint and Imgur. Downsize the picture of your character, paste it over Walsh, and white out the name text so that you can replace it with your own info. It's not required, but I just thought to showcase this gorgeous thing.

He has the demeanor of a man who is not unfamiliar with combat, relaxed but straight posture, attentive gaze, and always keeps at least one hand free.

  • PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • MOTIVATIONS:
Signorino has stated that his turn to mercenary life was to go to make enough money to go to college. However over his career he has accrued the funds necessary to do so. A brief investigation showed that his family, which comprises of a mother (64 Years of Age), father (65 Years of Age), and 3 siblings (22, 18, and 16 Years of Age) , has a net worth of under 100 thousand USD, and that the father is developing health issues. It is likely that Signorino donates a large portion of his pay to support his parents.

  • BIOGRAPHY:

"Well lets see here. I was born in Brooklyn, my father worked as a wage slave at two different jobs. Working as a trash guy during the day, and worked a night shift at a fast food joint. Needless to say he wasn't around much. Which left it on me to effectively be a father figure for my siblings, along with school and my own job that I was working. My mother worked at a dry cleaner place. Needless to say my childhood life was not one of leisure. When I was 17, I saw some army recruiters hanging around my high-school, looking for some 17 or 18 year olds to snatch up. I though 'Hey, its a way to get out of the house, which means I won't be taking up room and money, and also earn some money to send back to my baby brother and sisters.' So I took one of their flyers, and that night my parents and I stayed up talking about it. They refused to send me in at 17, wanting me to at least finish my high school education. So the next year, I graduated High school, kissed my parents and siblings goodbye, and headed of to Basic.

While at Fort. Benning, I wasn't very impressed with the intellectual capacity, or lack thereof, of my collogues, so I went to advanced schools. I graduated from Airborne school and Ranger. The Airborne training was scary as shit, I am not one for leaping out of planes I discovered, and I decided to join a Ranger unit. The Rangers were much more competent than the grunt enlistedmen, and I was a lot happier in that crowd. Anyway, I was apparently liked by some officer, because pretty soon I found myself wearing three stripes and a rocker (staff sergeant). That's about the time I went to Afghanistan, I got lucky enough to get selected to go on the raid against Abdul Hasib. That was a night. It was forty of us, plus 40 Afghan commandos, facing off against a large number of ISIS insurgents. That was my only true notable experience, the rest of the time in that theatre was your standard stuff. Sitting in a FOB, getting shot at occasionally. When I left the army, about 3 years ago now, I didn't have many other skills that would land me a truly good job, and the G.I bill was mostly devoted to my father's hospital payments. So I contracted with Blackwater. They were welcoming of someone with my background. When Blackwater agents got sent to Afghanistan is when the trouble began. Because of my previous tour their, they sent me along. But the Blackwater mercs were a lot less professional than the Army was. I watched one guy shoot some civvi in the street, claiming he had a gun later. At the time though, the guy wasn't even bothered by it. Problem is, he didn't even kill the guy, just shot him in the gut. He was gonna let the poor man bleed out. I had to put the man out of his misery. After I did that I started chewing that guy out, in front of all the other civvis there. As I was shouting at him the civvis began to cheer me on in Arabic. Eventually things got heated and we started throwing hands. The other mercs had to pull us away from each other before anything got serious. After that incident I found myself blackballed, and a week later I left Blackwater. Following that I drifted around, working odd security jobs in various parts of the world.

More on my family life? Well ok then. So like most Italian families ours was pretty expansive. While I lived with my two parents and 3 siblings, we had a large extended family, probably numbering about 30. Every so often we'd get together and have a big party. Big as in number of people, not as in anything luxurious. I was always something of an oddity among the community, I usually was about 5-6 inches taller than any one else in my age range, and fully grown I stand about the same above everyone, as well as some 40 pounds heavier. When I was on leave or in between jobs I'd go back and visit. Most of my siblings have moved out and gotten jobs now. Everytime I go back my mother always fusses over me. 'Oh your so rough. Shave more' type stuff. As mothers do. I always feel a lot more distant at gatherings than I did. None of them really understand my job. They don't know what I've done to people. Shit I don't want to think about it most times. These days I don't have a problem pulling the trigger, nor do their faces haunt me. But I still don't like doing it or thinking about it. Anyway, its been a few months since I've seen them. I should probably head back after this job."

    • DEMEANOR: Agesandro tends not to evoke his real feelings and emotions while on mission. He finds strict professional relationships preferably. However he does not mind military banter, and is know to be a ballbuster. Although he would argue it comes from a good place. A stickler for proper and appropriate gear. He's very forward with how he wants his team mates to have IFAK and to what standard they should be composed. How body armor should be warn, and takes what some have called a strongly paternalistic approach to his team. A mix of genuine care for their safety through the front of militant culture he was so used to.
    • PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Agesandro is roughly 180cm tall and 73kg's. He has a tattoo on his left forearm.
    • MOTIVATIONS: Agesandro is motivated first and foremost by money. He wants to use his skillset to earn and provide for himself and his daughter. However he also feels that contracting work has been the best thing for him. He deeply believes that the comradery has helped him to manage his undiagnosed PTSD. While he knows it's not the healthiest way of doing so he finds it the most effective.

    • BIOGRAPHY: Agesandro was born to Bruno Tedeschi and Fabia Tedeschi (nee Magnolla) in Pestana, Abruzzo, Italy. His father, originally from Trento, was a Professor of Sinology and Chinese Language Studies at D'Annunzio University, his mother also taught at D'Annunzio University where she was head of the Department of Neurosciences, Imaging and Clinical Sciences. Agesandro as a result grew up in a relatively privileged position in life. He went to a Private School for much of his life. He would attend a small English immersion school from ages 4 to 7 and then got back into traditional private education. His life was more or less normal for a child his age.

From an early age he was always described as "spirited" by family members. His Grandmother would call him Focoso, given his nature. As a young boy he'd frequently get into fights, mostly with boys a few grades over him. His family had always instilled a strong sense of duty within him. Both his parents were active members of the Communist Party, a rarity in conservative Abruzzo. His father in particular, would warn his young son of the evils of "authoritarian fools", influenced strongly by his own father's collaboration with the Italian Social Republic and a sense of deep shame from that connection.

However Agesandro did not take after his parents politically. He grew up far more apolitical. Really his only political opinion was a deep sense of patriotism. As a young boy he grew to admire people like Giuseppe Garibaldi, Massimo d'Azeglio, Giovanni Giolitti, and Gabriele D'Annunzio. Less so for any strong political belief and more so for their dedication to something greater than themselves. He chose to enter into a Medical Program at Marche Polytechnic University. He would pass the first required courses, but would eventually drop out, experiencing what he called a life crisis. Unsure of his future in life, and becoming one of the many unemployed Italian youths, he would opt to join the army instead. Hoping for a more clear life direction and a stable income. He would go through basic and apply to become a combat medic, building up on his previous medical school experience. He would transition to the Military Academy of Modena where he would take an expedited 3 semester combat medicine course.

After training he would apply to join the Paratroopers Brigade, first finishing his training and schooling. By 2008 he would officially become a paratrooper. Around this time he would become involved with a woman named Rumínica Edogamhe, an Afroitalian woman from Palermo original, who was living and working in Livorno for Costa Crociere. They experienced a romance, and continued after Agesandro was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. He would be stationed in Herat as part of a PRT continent. He mostly helped to train ANA soldiers on the basics of field medicine as well as doing arms training with ANP cadets. He would rotate out of Afghanistan next year. Him and Ruminica would become engaged shortly after, for a multitude of reasons. However an unexpected pregnancy was the driving factor. He would redeploy in 2011 as part of the expanding of the Italian contribution to ISAF. This time helping to train and advise ANP in Farah Province. It was here that he would experience combat in full. After going on patrol with ANP officers his unit was struck by several RPG and B-10 fire, eventually followed by small arms fire while his unit was on the road approaching Tojg. His unit took cover behind an embankment, backs towards the Farah River. Three Italians were WIA in the initial engagement but continued to fight. 1 ANP Officer was killed by small arms fire, and about half the ANP force fled the scene. Agesandro was able to keep most of the wounded in fighting condition, calling for backup from a nearby US Combat Engineer Company as well as close air support from Italian A129 Mangusta's. Agesandro would suffer minor shrapnel wounds to his left art from a fragmenting bullet later in the fight. But the force was able to evacuate back to their base of Tojg. However 1 Italian paratrooper, Elio Carducci, who suffered serious aortic trauma caused by a bullet striking his upper arm and severing his deep brachial artery. This deeply effected Agesandro, his inabilitu to properly treat and rescue Elio was the source of guilt amd grief. However not willing to be left off deployment he kept quite about the issue. A few months later his first child, Trofima Oyinkansola.

Upon his return home he would refocus and pivot towards fatherhood. Transitioning into a civilian career after the end of his military contract. He would work as a Trauma Nurse at United Hospitals of Livorno. However his relationship with Ruminica would eventually deteriorate. He suffered from chronic drinking, and would would neglect the needs of his wife and child. While not prone to violence or aggression, his bouts of melancholia would push his wife to seek a divorce. They divorced on June 3rd 2016. In 2017 after a series of cuts to the hospitals budget, Agesandro was let go. Out of work and in need of employment, he started networking with old army friends. One pointed him to Samael Corp, who at the time were looking for personnel to fill a request for operations in the Niger Delta. He was given contact information and applied. Finding himself accepted and after some initial evaluation a d testing was sent to do oil facility guard near Burutu, Delta State. He would stay in country for about a year, feeling and noticing a change in his emotional state. He would spend most of his leave visiting his daughter. He also met Soriana Florescu through a mutual friend. They would move in together by the end of the year. She works as a Traveling marketing specialist for Tuaca. So she would also be out out business much of the year, an arrangement they found suitable, although Agesandro only told her he worked as a consultant for an arms company.

He would again deploy with Samael, this time to South America for operations in Alhambra.

Her family which had strong military traditions, with her father being in active service as a Colonel for most of her childhood. Leaving her to be primarily by her mother because of his frequent deployments aboard. Had a mixed relationship with her sisters because of her highly competitive streak. Often getting into fights with them over attention.

During her teenage years, her family sent her away to attend the Prytanée National Militair military boarding school. With her doing reasonably well within academic circles. Being regarded as a keen athlete, having membership in both the school’s Judo and basketball team. She later graduated, but failed to reach the requirements for her intended goal, Armies École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr.

Disappointed, she later attended Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines University. began taking an academic interest in social sciences and middle eastern culture over her four-year tenure. Gaining a bachelor’s degree in International Relations, minor in Language & Linguistics. Following graduation, Pariseau joined the military to serve as an officer. Electing to go into the infantry following the opening up of combat roles for women in France. Attending the École de l’infanterie before later attending École des troupes aéroportées as part of paratrooper training. Performing well throughout training. Entering active service during that year as an officer with the 8th Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment.

During her military service working within the reconnaissance and support company, she saw several small deployments. Kosovo in 2011 as part of KFOR and much later into the central African Republic throughout 2013 as part of operation Sangaris, which contributes to most of her active experience. Keeping an excellent service record, continuing to serve two more years before being tackling training to enter the Commando Parachute Group. Found the process to be deeply difficult but persevered through it, entering the third CPG team with the 8th Marine Commando. Continued service for two years before leaving following the completion of her active service. Finding herself demotivated by the limited potential of progression, difficulties with other servicemen and lack of deployments. Having a larger desire to travel.

Anne-Laure began work as a freelance risk advisor for the North African and middle eastern territories, giving security advice to companies intending on starting up business in these regions. Growing closer to her long time spouse Alain, a former officer, during this period as she attempted to settle back into normal life. With both of them having to travel a lot more to live comfortably in the lifestyle that they wanted. With life becoming more troublesome when issues with family came to the forefront. Unhappy with the money being made, boredom and knowing that her skills could be used elsewhere, with Anne-Laure began pursued contracting work. Finding the travel and months long contracting work desirable, being able to make a healthy living and work on and off with ease. Being able to go home on a somewhat frequent basis.

Anne-Laure joining up with Couverte Services De Sécurité first with a four-month contract in Mali protecting French corporate interests. During this time she primarily kept on call to help protect the principles by the team lead and was rarely used. She was an outsider in the group and struggled to effectively fit in with the team. Meshing with the team culture poorly, despite her credentials.

Her time within Couverte Services De Sécurité became further soured two months into her deployment. When she discovered that someone had sexually assaulted the company secretary while on deployment. The incident being quickly swept under the rug and covered up by their team lead to avoid issues coming down the line. Anne-Laure Pariseau was slow to act. Initially disbelieving it before attempting to deal with it directly in house with the team lead. Only approaching upper management, reporting him after a lengthy argument with the team lead on what to do about it. Who effectively told her to keep quiet. A man struggling to keep his own family afloat and being a close friend to him.

The perpetrator being removed from the team and facing a court case at home, Anne-Laure found herself actively punished for it by other team members. During this period, she was actively placed on more dangerous duties and mistreated by other members of the team frequently. Being borderline harassed, getting into several altercations with other contractors. When her contract came up, it was not renewed and they removed her from service. The company citing issues with team cohesion. Leaving a somewhat sizable blemish on her record within the circuit.

For a while she went back to France, reattempting work as a freelance risk analysis for a few months out of frustration before finding herself back at square one. Frustrated about a lack of money and underutilization. Attempting to do contracting again in late 2018, Joining up with Samael Corp, having worked with them over a period of seven months. First doing a three-month contract in Angola, before ending up in Mexico doing executive protection for American corperate interests. While not perfect, Pariseau found the company to be a much more solid one, if less experienced than her previous employer. After a month or so off, when the offer to work in Peru came up, Anne-Laure jumped at the occasion.

So, how prone is SamCorp to dipping its fingers in off the books jobs to circumnavigate PMC regulations? Has it been the subject of any controversy in the recent past?

This prompted Miranda to visit an Armed Forces Career Center, and eventually she ended up shipping off to the Navy the summer of 2007, as a Master at Arms, the closest thing the Navy had to a Grunt.

For a long time she served on board ships providing security, until she reenlisted and transferred to a Construction Battalion, or the Seebees. As a Seebee she would become qualified as a Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, and deploy twice to Afghanistan, before joining with the Naval Special Warfare unit at Virginia Beach, where she would support their operations in the Philippines. During this enlistment, Miranda found that while se saw some action in the Navy, her getting revenge for the loss of her brother was a fairy dream and she finished her enlistment without incident.

She tried collage, and working in construction, but ended up drifting around Florida until she met one of her old Navy buddies in a bar. After catching up, her old buddy told her that they'd recommend her for a job in Samael's Maritime Security Services division, which paid over quadruple her current job. The next month she was on board a Merchant vessel off the coast of Somalia. While lucrative, the most exciting part of her job was firing warning shots to a fishing boat that got too close once. She would soon request contract that would put her on the ground, receiving one in Peru. [blocktext]

    • NAME: Churan
    • AGE: 24
    • GENDER: Female
    • ETHNICITY: Yahari, Quechua
    • NATIONALITY: Peruvian
    • CITY/TOWN OF PRIMARY RESIDENCE:Iquito, Peru

    • DEMEANOR: Churan can best be described as silent, observant. Around others, she keeps his mouth shut, and rather chooses to listen, and leave people be. Only when it is absolutely necessary will she properly communicate, and even then, she will keep it as short as possible. Her resting face is one of indifference and concentration. She does not quip or speak needlessly.
    • PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Churan is shorter than the world average, but built very lean and muscular. She is not an intimidating presence, but also clearly not a push-over, her body being in top physical condition. She keeps her black hair short beneath a straw hat, and her tattoos are covered by jungle fatigue. But especially her legs are built for marathon running.
    • MOTIVATIONS: He just wants to live out her life in peace, without foreigners coming in and wrecking her home, poisoning their river, like was done in the past. She wants to go in and clear out the area as quickly as possible, so that everything can go back to normal. Even though she knows, with the arrival of the NGO aid mission, and the influx of tourists, things will never truly go back to normal, even if they stop poisoning her river and burning her childhood home.
    • EDUCATION: Churan has no formal education, but learnt most she knows from Uchuypoma, her great-grandmother. After the Event just a year back, which rendered much of her village mysteriously sick she joined the Ranger school. She was put through both Ranger training and a specialised course made especially for her, to familiarise her with the world beyond the Amazon. Though not everything could be slotted into a six month course, that had given her the necessary context for dealing with foreigners.
    • KNOWN LANGUAGES: Yahari-Quechua, Peruvian Spanish, some English (though not proficient, often using a Spanish/English mix to get her meaning across)
    • PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND: One year employment with the Almodavar Rangers, with the rank of Ranger.

    • AMOUNT OF TIME WITH SAMAEL: A week or so, give or take
    • PRIMARY ARMAMENTS:
    • Galil ACE with 4x magnifying sight
    • SIG Pro 9mm
    • Weighted machete
    • Fishing spear (1,5 m)
    • Blow gun/darts (0,5m)
    • PERTINENT EQUIPMENT: Maps, rations, fire starting kit, various antidotes, lengths of rope, trench shovel, binoculars, iodine tablets, water purification filter, a lot of plastic ziplock bags, assortment of pots and pans
    • UNIFORM: Churan keeps very light on the gear. Just a straw hat for protection against the sun, a kaki jacket (with her shoulder holster) over a light blue blouse, with black shorts. Churan wears no body armour or helmet, and chooses to move lightly rather than armouring herself up. His backpack is small and functional, holding her fishing spear and blow gun against the side. She wears his machete from a utility belt with a few other essential items. She uses various oils to keep moquitoes away from her skin. She has a natural plasmodium immunity.
    • ROLE: Interpreter, guide, general protector againt jungle harm
    • BIOGRAPHY:Churan was born the great-granddaughter of chief Uchuypoma. Her life was destined to be entwined with an ever-chaging world; born and growing up in the 90s, she would see the outside world encroaching ever-more on her native village. First came the tourists; starting at only a few trekkers every year, they grew in number until a documentary on Almodavar was made by the BBC. Afterwards, it exploded, and Churan's village became more and more the host of wealthy foreign backpackers wanting to take pictures with native children. After the tourists came the prospectors for both mining and logging companies. Ever-more contact with outsiders brought with it more internal conflict. Questions on whether to adopt foreign medicine and clothing, for example, raged on. Uchuypoma kept a steady hand, and ensured that the rights of her people were well-protected in goverment, but she could not stop the capitalist apparatus that was slowly chugging their way from across the sea.

Churan was inspired by Uchuypoma, and dreamed of going abroad herself to join her great-grandmother in the arena of politics. Among her own people she was counted among the most brave, venturing far if she wellbeing of the tribe demanded it. She would go out after dark to find lost children, or track a man-eating jaguar if it had gotten too close, something that was traditionally a man's job. But still, her community was not so large as to instill strict gender boundaries, and respected every one of their members with a personal respect not often seen in larger societies. With her being the most adventurous, nimble, and knowing the tracks of Almodavar, she was a prime candidate to guide the various tourists. This is how she slowly picked up English; touring hikers through the jungle. She became very good at protecting witless foreigners against the unseen dangers of the jungle, and more than once had to carry one of them out of the park, nearly dehydrated and starving from drinking foul surface water.

A year before our story begins, Churan was out guiding a rich couple from Richmond. When she returned to her village, half of its inhabitants had grown ill. Though unsure what had caused it at first, ranger intervention soon determined the source to be mercury poisoning in the fish, from illegal upstream gold mining activity. Churan did not have to think twice before volunteering to join the ranger corps. The rangers were notorious for their lazy attitude to park protection and their paternalistic view of the indigenous people, and Churan wanted to prove them wrong by teaching them. Perhaps a bit naive, but at least she got to do useful work with her knowledge of the park ecosystem and how to traverse great lengths on foot. She received a shortened ranger training course, focused mostly on the use of tools and weapons, as well as the cultural context of the outside world. During her time training in Iquito, she learnt more Spanish and English by reading popular books and comics that really connected with her; children's stories at first, but more complex material shortly after, with a special interest in history books.

Working for the rangers was an incredible disappointment. The corruption and bureaucracy in the organisation was rife, with cocaine and mineral wealth changing hands quite often, under the noses of the rangers. The latter sometimes acted as glorified body guards to high-profile dealers, who disguised themselves as tourists to visit their Peruvian contacts. When the Samael Corporation first made contact with the rangers to arrange for a guide, both the ranger higher ups and Churan were glad to be rid of one another. When she handed over her resume and showed off her weapon skills, however, instead of just giving her a guiding gig, Samael offered her a job, at least for as long as the mission lasted, with possible extension if she did well. Now, even though she is just in it for the protection of her homeland, the world beyond the Andes beckons, so she is still torn on whether she would want to join Samael afterwards.

Apps are looking good so far. Not much to worry about thus far. Unfortunately, Insy is having to pull out, which leaves us devoid of a medic. If there is anyone that is following the RP and/or working on a character that hasn't been posted yet, this presents you with a good opportunity.

    • BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Istanbul in 1990, Kemal seemed more likely to take over his family's business, a hotel primarily catering to foreign tourists, rather than make a career as a special operator and later private military contractor. From a young age he helped his parents around their business under the assumption that he would one day take over. He was even planning to avoid conscription by going to university and then paying his way out of service just as his father had done. However, as a teenager he became more interested in the stories of relatives and ancestors who had served in the military. An uncle fought in Cyprus, his grandfather fought in Korea, and even more distant relatives he could no longer speak to fought in the Turkish War of Independence and at Gallipoli. Ultimately, this would be a strong influence on his decision to go through with conscription and go on to become an operator in the naval special forces. During his high school years he became invested in developing his physical fitness and began taking martial arts classes in the hopes he could prepare himself for military training. His parents were initially disappointed that he was choosing to make a military career rather than prepare to take over their business, but quickly became supportive of his goals.

When the time for conscription came around, Kemal asked to be placed in the Amphibious Commando Brigade as a stepping stone to his special operations ambitions. Nothing of particular note happened during his time in the unit and after a year he was allowed to attend special forces selection and training over the next year or so. He passed the selection and for the next several years most of his time would be spent in base, on training exercises, attending specialist training, and occasionally heading to the east of Turkey to engage in counterinsurgency operations against PKK guerrillas. During this time he studied for a degree in history, as well went to the United States to receive some advanced training courses.

Operational tempo would rapidly increase in 2016. As the war in Syria raged, the Turkish government began seriously considering military intervention and had already begun launching smaller scale special operations mission in the country. This was also the year of an attempted military coup against President Erdogan. Kemal saw action in suppressing the coup forces. He was certainly no strong supporter of the current government or its policies, but the alternative of allowing his country to descend into chaos and potential civil war wasn't something he was prepared to let happen either. During this time he fought against a strike group made up of some of his fellow SAT operators who attempted to raid the resort Erdogan was staying at on the night of the coup. Despite helping to suppress the coup, Kemal was placed on administrative leave for several months while his unit was investigated for their role in the coup attempt. During this time, he met his future wife, a woman two years his junior named Ceylan.

Near the end of 2016, Kemal was allowed to return to active service after being cleared of any involvement with the coup attempt. His unit began training to intervene in Syria. In 2017, Kemal participated in the first Turkish intervention in Syria, Operation Euphrates Shield, where he helped advise and assist Free Syrian Army fighters in taking the city of Al Bab from the Islamic State. After a few months of difficult fighting in Syria, Kemal returned to Turkey and almost immediately began preparing for the next intervention in Syria. After returning from Syria, he asked permission from Ceylan's family to marry her. They approved, and Kemal and Ceylan married in early 2018, only a few weeks before Kemal would once again deploy to Syria.

This next deployment to Syria would leave an extremely bad taste in Kemal's mouth. Under Operation Olive Branch, he was to help take the city of Afrin from the YPG. He heard all the propaganda about them being terrorists and the same as the PKK, so he had no issue with having to fight them. His issue came with Turkey's allies in the campaign. The militias the Turkish military were working with were much more blatant jihadists than the FSA fighters they had worked with the previous year. He would carry out his duties, but he was worried these allies were a sign of things to come for Erdogan. The re-election of Erdogan later the same year further cemented his decision to leave the military. He and his wife agreed to move from their home in Izmir to Istanbul, where Kemal was once again prepared to take over his parent's business.

However, life would have slightly different plans for Kemal. Shortly after leaving the military he was contacted by a private military contractor by the name of Samael. They wanted his special operations skills and experience as a combat veteran. He was offered quite a significant amount of money, not only by Turkish standards but by Western standards as well to essentially be a glorified security guard in some of the world's more unstable locations. Kemal accepted the job offer, planning to only do it for a few years to help his parents put money into their business, earn some money to support having children in the future, and ultimately have money to invest in the family business when he takes over.

    • BIOGRAPHY:

    • Born on 1991 in Aberdeen, Josephine lived in a harmonic and well-off life. Her father was the Deputy Commissioner on the Operations side, of the Hong Kong Police Force. Josephine is the third child and the youngest, with two elder brothers. The life was rather uneventful-ish, in spite of her father's position and the political landscape of Hong Kong between pre-British status and post-British status. She grew up just fine, a good student and all that status as the daughter of Deputy Commissioner. Still, her life took a turn for the worse not long after she graduated from junior high part of her school. Her first elder brother was a police officer, part of HKPD. A clash between her brother, his unit, and other police squad, with Triad ended up in many, many casualties. Her brother died in the hospital after a grueling 3 days.

Ever since that, her father commissioned high protection details for all of his family members. Long enjoyed her independence with half of the level of that protection detail, it's beginning to take a toll on her life. She felt restrictions and she began to argued with her now-retired father over this. It's continued, and continued. Her father, feared of the similar incident that costed his son's life, was not budged with her argument. Her second elder brother took comfort with the detail, though since now he lived in Shanghai as a businessman, it didn't concerned him as much as it is to his sister. In an act against her father's decision, after getting Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, she enlisted into Hong Kong Police Training School. Her father argued angrily over this, and was hurt emotionally in the process. Shortly before she finished the education, her parents cut her off from their family. She felt hurt as well, but nevertheless resolved to continue as police officer.
