Like I imagined one point into Supplies would translate to basically scrap or debris being repurposed into highly crude tools. But would ten points into it be essentially commonplace energy weapons and refitted pre-war stuff? I was basically wondering if there was any 'hard' coded descriptions for what the points into CROWS translated to you had in mind already.

I love the idea.
I feel bad now that I didn't do that, it was left vague and i must have overlooked it in the effort to do everything else.

Tribe/City-State: The Campus
Symbol/Flag:

Claimed territory: Lawton/Fort Sill
Population (max of 2500): 1250 Citizens, 500 Alumni, 250 Militia
Leadership: Chancellor Oskar Heath
History (How did you come to be?): Home to the Army's Field Artillery and Air Defense school as well as an airfield, Lawton Oklahoma was a major target for nuclear annihilation just as great as the nuclear silos in Oklahoma or Oklahoma city proper. Luckily for the citizens of Lawton however, the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade under the command of the Missile Defense Command were able to intercept a number of nuclear weapons, preventing the total nuclear destruction of Lawton and its surrounding communities. However due to the geography of Oklahoma, the flat topography and gentle sloping hills did little to shield the city from radiation storms, acid raid and radioactive particles brought in by the wind from other nuclear detonations. They traded nuclear annihilation for a slow death by the hands of starvation and radiation poisoning.

As with other major settlements, the Fort Sill's garrison was quickly deployed to enforce martial law on Lawton and the surrounding communities, however as army units were spread thin and supply lines were disrupted, efforts at maintaining martial law quickly fell apart. Inadequate CBRN protection and anti-radiation medicine lead to crippling losses for the military and civilian population of Lawton. The air force was no longer air dropping supplies and relief convoys of food were no longer being sent out. With military order collapsing eight months after activation, the city saw a mass exodus of civilians fleeing for the countryside in an attempt to find safety in smaller farming communities or to find their families in other cities. Few would survive to the end of the year.

There was no grandiose uprising, no military dictator, just a desperate army garrison quietly giving up. Checkpoints stopped being manned, and men stopped showing up to roll call. Few from the local government were willing or even still alive to take charge and the military had all but disintegrated back into the general population. The Generals and Colonels in charge of the base and its regiments broken down by the loss of tens of thousands of civilians and thousands of their own men where they could do nothing but watch.

Cameron University, now known simply as The Campus, stepped up to take leadership of the city engulfed in lawlessness. Rather, the administrative faculty of the University did. Brought together by reason and the lack of a better option, the students and faculty who were still alive and trapped on campus banded together to coordinate their finite resources and triage the dying. With coordination came attention, what was left of the city's first responders came to assist for a port in the storm and a semblance of order.

The next few hundred years were rather unremarkable as the population continued to rebuild and attempt to preserve knowledge to keep its civilization running. While shook by mutants such as ghouls, these individuals quickly became integral to the maintenance of old world facilities as the power grid and overground trolley system. They would send scavengers and science teams to hunt for old world knowledge in an attempt to preserve it and utilize it to the best of their ability. They would slowly expand from their sole Campus in the west end of Lawton to eventually the entire town, Fort Sill and the wind farm to the north west. With the benefit of their military facilities, they would be able to hold off any incursion until recent history.

During the Legion-Enclave war however would see tough times for the campus as Enclave forces would arrive to confiscate the Campus' old world military equipment. While 400 over years old, their artillery guns and anti-air missile defense would be critical supplies for the Enclave's campaign against its enemies. They would convert the Campus' peaceful town into a fortified artillery FOB against the Legion. The Enclave would pull out in 2378, taking with them many of the Campus's heavy duty firepower like much of the town's heavy field artillery and ammunition. Alone against the hoard, many of the veteran fighters of the Campus would be lost fighting off the Legion on their own. Campus would easily repair its civilian infrastructure, but the military losses would be irreplaceable. Only a handful of veterans remain to train and lead a majority green militia.

Society: Life on Campus is safe and stable. Generally quite open to all people of any orientation or race. While leaning more socially conservative in terms of the idea of a nuclear family and traditional gender roles, the harsh realities of the wasteland have made these ideals abundantly clear that they are not sustainable. As such all people capable of work can work and are entitled to fair compensation. Social programs include day care so that parents may work without interruption and children may continue to develop. Healthcare is subsidized or else no one would be able to pay for healthcare and the Campus offers public works opportunities to get the unemployed working. Drug addicts were encouraged to seek the government funded rehabilitation programs and rejoin the work force. All this being said, Campus life is somewhat drab. Parties and festivals are held regularly but there is little in the way of any organized arts centers or programs. There are art and music clubs but nothing substantial to really create a diverse culture as its mostly amateur artists. There exists local tabloids but there aren't very many well known novelists as majority of writers focus on non-fiction writing to earn accreditation with the Campus.

Not exactly a democracy, the Chancellor is elected by a group of individuals within the Alumni, which as the name would suggest are people who have graduated from the Campus. Education is a cornerstone of Campus society and everyone has received up to some rough form of high school education, however not everyone is able to become a proper student as it incurs great personal and financial cost. Past public education unless someone shows great academic prowess, they likely wont attend the Campus due to its high cost of admission.

The Militia consists of 250 volunteers that do a number of jobs including firefighting, policing, paramedicing and war fighting. These volunteers are mostly part time soldiers with only a fifth of the volunteers being full time active defense. The rest are mostly dedicated to their respective divisions or have other jobs in the civil sector. While modestly armed, it is a far cry from the power they once held. The majority of the militia field muscle powered weapons, bows, crossbows, machetes and the like, with only the the more permanent veteran force still regularly fielding firearms. A handful grizzled 400+ year old ghouls stand to train and lead the motley militia.

C: 5/10 - Survival and infrastructure has taken precedent, leading to a lag of cultural development behind the rest of Campus society. Musicians and artists are sometimes more rare than being educated, competent ones more so. A general timeline has been kept and the Campus's radio stations play old world music instead of their own.
R: 8/10 - While not at the level of pre-war infrastructure, The Campus maintains functioning sewage treatment and electricity from the wind farm to the edge of city boundaries. Roads are maintained within the territory and a finely crafted defensive network is built around the territory. The Campus maintains three hospitals and an overland tram line has been created to haul bulk goods and personnel around the city wherever needed.
O: 6/10 - The Campus is an organized and coordinated government with strong support from its constituents. The Chancellery works hard to maintain public faith and purge bad actors.
W: 3/10 - Not an inherently warlike people, The Campus maintains a basic policing force designed for civil unrest and small scale banditry.
S: 3/10 - Due to the high maintenance cost of Campus infrastructure and high standard of living, Campus stockpiles leave something to be desired.

Tribe/City-State: Ardmore Socialist Republic (commonly: Red Republic)
Symbol/Flag: Oklahoma 46 Flag, "Labor Omnia Vincit", Acts 4:35
  • Ideology: Democratic-Socialist (economic); Christian Democracy, Conservative (social)
Claimed territory: Carter County, Oklahoma (specifically around Ardmore and Lake Murray)
Population: 2,500
Leader: President of the Republic, Henry Grantham Woodward, General-Secretary of the Socialist Party
Leadership:
  • The Politburo: The central committee, cabinet, council, elders; those who run the Republic. The Politburo consisted of ten Socialist Party upper-echelon members selected each year (though there are periods when elections are postponed for decades, or instead done in a quick interval of weeks). Each member of the Politburo are assigned ministerial posts. It is led by the General Secretary of the Socialist Party, who acts President of the Republic.
  • The Soviet: A gathering of Collective leaders and administrators. Technically, it is the Republic's legislative body which exercised checks and balances towards the Politburo. In practice, however, they only serve to elect members of the Politburo; the checks and balances function are more commonly regarded as suggestions, instead.
  • Socialist Party: It is the sole (and the only permitted) political organization in the Republic. Every working person (basically everyone of working age) are members of the Party, and foreigners who wanted to settle on the Republic's territory, or people coming of age, must apply for Socialist Party membership in order to stay, procure housing, and work.
  • Collectives: A mix of corporation, neighborhood, and farm (or factory) integrated into one. It also serves as the basic subdivision of the Republic. Each usually averaged between fifty to a hundred members, and occupied several blocks of the city. Collectives are governed through direct democracy; the Collective leader is appointed by a gathering of citizens (the Collective Soviet). According to the Party principle (from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs), there is no private property; instead, farms, housing, and other properties are owned by the Collective. A Collective gives 40% of their output (grain, equipment, weapons, etc.) to the Party, and kept the rest for their own consumption. Trade are coordinated through the Office of Commerce, a Party-run organization that controls all trade going in and out of the Republic.
History:
Society: Citizens of the Republic are characterized by their strong sense of community (both as an individual Collective and the Republic as a whole). Large families are the norm, and decision-making is a collective process. The Republic does not have a strong military, but its armed forces is adequate enough to protect it from raiders and hostile tribes. Ardmore served as a major trade depot, and merchants often stop in the town en route between Texas and Oklahoma City, so occasionally the Office of Commerce would organize caravans to sell excess Collective products to Dallas or Oklahoma City; this is not often, however.

Most of the citizens (including President Woodward) are members of the Church of Holy Water, a splinter of the Southern Baptist Convention that has survived and evolved through several centuries. There are no church buildings (except for an administrative office in the town); services and sermons are usually done in a field near the Lake Murray, or in the center of the town. The Socialist Party derive many of its policies and political theories from religious scriptures, and religious affairs are controlled through the Office of Holiness.

If a location interests you, I can probably tell you more about it, but of course Kelmet has the final say on lore so consider anything I say only semi-cannon.

I'm supposing IRL most sewers out in midwest cities aren't that absurdly spacious to house whole tribes in them? However given that absurdly spacious sewers in Fallout seem to be a commonality for how pre-war cities were built, I guess that's probably fine.

If it makes a better story then ill allow it, as long as it doesn't give your tribe a mechanical bonus in game.

Aesthetics are nice. :)

I'd advise referring to the map inset of OKC for faction based in the city ruins themselves - ideally try and keep most of your claimed territory within one of the coloured areas at first, so there's enough to go 'round.

Yours is outside this area, though, so keep at it :)

At present, Norman is unclaimed. It's right next to the Owen Stadium on the map, and on the next version of the map, there is also a military meteorological station close-by to the north.

Thank you, Syndic Australia!

Try this: The meteorological military station had a micro-plasma weapons factory in its compound, in addition firearms arsenal, too. While not big enough to equip the NCR or Caesar's Legion, but both can make for a Gun Runners/Van Graffs-style faction. The weapons trade is their main concern. No Power armor.

Would this work here?

Tribe/City-State: Castrum Cervii, The Stag's Camp
Symbol/Flag: The Cervii are easily identified by their use of bastardized Legion standards, usually featuring an elk in place of the Legion's bull.
Claimed territory: The Camp is located atop the ruins of a pre-war settlement known as Elk City.
Population: The city-state consists of 848 citizens and 254 publicly and privately owned slaves, in addition to around 1000 non-citizens living in vassalized tribes.
Leadership: Tribune Vitellius
History: Around 2315, a detachment of Legion exploratores entered Oklahoma. Traveling on Route 40, the scouts soon came across Elk City, which at the time, was occupied by a gang of raiders. Initially displeased with the state of the province, the exploratores would leave upon completing their survey. For several years thereafter, the city continued to serve as a haven for raiders, existing in the Legion only as a dot on a map. Following the fall of the NCR and the ascendancy of the Legion, however, expansion efforts into Oklahoma were resumed. In 2320, a cohort of legionaries marched along Route 40 once again, this time intending to subjugate and annex the region. Upon reaching Elk City, the unit's commanding officer ordered his men to expel the raiders. After an afternoon of bloody fighting, the city was all but razed and any raider who had not already fled or died was mounted upon a cross.

Having dispensed their draconian justice, the cohort made camp in the still smoldering ruins of the raider's den. Christened with an appropriately Legion-esque name, Castrum Cervii, the site would come to be an important staging ground for the Legion's forces as they pacified the surrounding region. Within a handful of years, the Bull's presence in Oklahoma could be felt nearly everywhere. Enslaved work-gangs rebuilt America's highways, linking the new province to the rest of Caesar's bustling empire. Traders and colonists would follow, sparking economic growth. Oklahoma's many tribes were obliged to offer tribute and hostages to the local governor, and in return the Legion's fighting men purged the province of raiders and other roving criminals. The Stag's Camp, like every other permanent Legion encampment, soon solidified and grew. Dirt roads and cracked pavement were covered in new cobblestones, cloth tents replaced with timber buildings. At length, the provincial capital would be moved to the former site of Oklahoma City, but the Camp would remain a hub of Legion activity.

Though the Legion outclassed nearly every society already in the region on an organizational level, provincial governors found themselves waging a persistent low-intensity war against a number of tribes who resisted Caesar's rule. Notably, the Legion suffered a grave defeat at the hands of a Dunkaner named Wernur. Long though to be a backwater unworthy of serious military consideration, the sting of that battle prompted a dramatic increase in the number of legionaries garrisoned in the region. Bolstered by the reinforcements, the Legion's governor embarked on a punitive campaign against the Dunkans and associated tribes. Though successful, the campaign was ended prematurely as the Legion's focus shifted to the threat of the Enclave.

Few, if any, battles between the Legion and the Enclave were fought in the province, and the Legion's presence was reduced to a level befitting such a low priority theater. During the closing days of the conflict, however, Oklahoma City was destroyed. Already having lost contact with Flagstaff, the provincial governor and his men had decided to lay low and wait to see what had become of the Legion's leadership. Thus, they were taken by surprise when an Enclave Vertibird flew overhead, dropping a half dozen mini-nukes out of its side hatch.

In the Camp, meanwhile, a military tribune would struggle to process the sight of the city he had just left burn on the horizon. Dispatched to the Camp to oversee the safe travel of a grain shipment, the tribune would soon learn from survivors of the blast that he was now the highest ranking, living member of the Legion in Oklahoma. Consolidating the scattered Legion forces around the camp, Vitellius, the tribune, did his best to stave off desertion and the collapse of order. This proved to be a near-impossible task, as previously loyal tribes rose in revolt and as it became increasingly evident that Flagstaff had been rendered nothing more than a crater. Nonetheless motivated, Vitellius continued to work in order to maintain his base of power in Oklahoma.

As the Legion's roads began to crumble and the lawlessness of post-war America began to return to Oklahoma, Vitellius oversaw the transition of the Camp from a glorified supply depot to a venerable fortress, a beacon of civilization in the wastes. Now, the title of Tribune has passed to his son, a young man of 25 years. The choice of succession was not without controversy, and detractors within the Camp's walls often refer to their leader, derisively, as "the Fawn."

Society: In the years since the collapse of the Legion, those in Oklahoma who still carry legionary standards and swing gladii have grown into a distinct people. The greatest difference between the Cervii and the old Legion is the status of the legionary. Unlike the old Legion, each and every one of the Stag's soldiers is a free man. Morale is derived from a personal connection to the community rather than coercion, and as such, legionaries are appointed to public offices with near exclusivity. This situation has fostered a dominating martial tradition, in which soldiers are viewed as above the average citizen.

The people who inhabit the Camp are typically referred to as the "Cervii" or "Elk." In order to differentiate them from the average citizen, legionaries (and the Tribune) are known as "Stags."

That is not to say, however, that slavery does not exist in the Camp. A relatively small number of slaves are kept on a permanent basis, and only freed with their master's express consent. Despite this, the bulk of the Camp's physical labor is performed not by slaves, but by tribals from the Cervii's vassals, who serve for a period of time as part of their tribe's tribute. The members of the vassal tribes, are treated variably, largely depending on the conduct of their tribe and the way in which they were subjugated. For instance, those from a tribe who came to a peaceful settlement with the Tribune would be treated more favorably than a tribe who resisted and was broken through force.

Non-citizen tribals are referred to on an individual basis by the name of their tribe, or, collectively as "Peregrini."

Just a little point of clarification for your lore - as far as the map goes, at present, the Legion's maximum extent of control in Oklahoma would have been the western half (everything west of OKC), with OKC and the eastern half at the very least not fully integrated or at most entirely independent. As such, the destruction of OKC by the Enclave would be incongruent. In addition, Route 66, in this timeline, was retained rather than overridden by Route 40 going west from OKC, but this is purely semantic, considering they're pretty much the same road during this stretch.

Seeing as it is/was a military (airforce) compound, a level of stockpiled armament would be entirely reasonable. However, production-wise, I don't think it would provide anything special, as it really is more of a military weather station than a mini-Nellis. There are other locations within Oklahoma, and located on the map, where military production would take place, but mixing experimental weather tech with techies in need of weapons could lead to some very interesting ideas - or, for energy weapons, a lot of scrap for production. On the armor front, perhaps due to Legion influence and due to the proximity of Owen Stadium, it would make sense for sports equipment to be utilised or adapted for combat.

At the end of the day though, whatever makes your story compelling is what's most important; if that needs some guy at the base to have been tinkering with making his own plasma grenades when the bombs dropped so be it.

Do keep in mind tornadoes; this is just a general for everyone, as all of the accepted proposals so far are located within 'Tornado Alley'. Longstanding settlements would likely have the ability to shelter from tornadoes, re-locate in times of danger, or have simply endured the wrath of nature.

Not quite, while legion control of OK, was always kind of meh it was only because it really only needed control of the roads, at its Hight the Legion controlled most of middle America, East of the Rockies and west of the Mississippi.

The Socialist Party derive many of its policies and political theories from religious scriptures, and religious affairs are controlled through the Office of Holiness.

lost contact with their Louisville, Kentucky based detachment. They agreed the Outcast cause was

If you would prefer that the Legion had a minimal presence there, as to allow players to fit their own lore into the city and the map that Syndic drew up, that works for me too -- it's an easily changed plot point.

As for the tornadoes, I guess I thought too little about the "radioactive storms" mentioned in the OP. Guess we'll be in for a ride when mother nature gets angry.
Do you think you know me?

I had our co-op make a map with OKC zoomed in on because I figured there was enough "stuff" (People and resources) for it to be to powerful to let one player have the whole thing.
The Legion had a presence. I stated it was an out of the way area so you all could play in a zone that didn't have a bunch of lore already on it.

Mother nature is scary, radioactive nature is terrifying, and has only gotten worse since the 2nd nuclear war between the Enclave and Legion.

My Application (FINISHED)

Postby Xifix » Wed Mar 17, 2021 7:43 am

Application
Tribe/City-State: Yaka
Symbol/Flag:
Image

Claimed territory: Oklahoma State Penitentiary (currently) and Pittsburg County (upcoming)
Population (max of 2500): 2,500
Leadership:
Yaka operates as a communal parity, where total equality is promoted for all its citizens, regardless of their job or assigned tasks. They believe in an equitable distribution of resources, making little to no distinction between the needs of ruler and ruled. Effectively, Yaka is a classless anarchist-communist society, where its citizens practice a direct democracy without a state, a currency, or even written laws. (see 'Order' under 'Society' for more info).

History:
No one knows what happened in the years after the bombs fell, but there has been much speculation that multiple prison riots and several raids eventually befell the 'Big Mac'. For a century, the Oklahoma State Penitentiary remained abandoned and derelict, mostly consumed by overgrowth and occasionally populated by random travelers or bandits. It was until 2200 that the former prison was revived; however, the new residents were not just some other group of raiders or survivors.

A band of illiterate tribal farmers in need of shelter and land sought refuge in the former prison. Despite being infested with vegetation, rats, and insects, the peasants proceeded to settle down and make themselves at home. There was much work to be down with renovation and comfort, but there was nothing more important than protection.

Nearly a few years after the prison was reoccupied, the decision to begin demolishing the prison buildings finally came to a head. At first, work was extremely slow and tiring, as the demolition was done entirely by hand - simple manual tools were the only things available in the inhabitant's disposal. By 2215, the only structures that remained were the the walls and watchtowers; whereas, the rubble paved the way for reconstruction.

On 1st March 2215, the name of Yakan is born.

For the next twenty years, the wall was extended from its original boundaries, effectively creating a safe defensive perimeter for the newborn Yakan civilization. Concurrently, new homes and crops started to sprout up, bringing much needed comfort and surplus. By 2240, the gloomy ruins of a prison were all but a distant memory, now replaced by a thriving agricultural hub within its walls.

Word of Yakan's foundation slowly got around in Pittsburg County, and much attention had been unexpectedly drawn to the former prison. Among the many groups who heard of the Yakan, raiders and bandits sought to conquer and pillage the community for their own purposes. With crowds lurking and/or gathering around the walls, Yakan was in a precarious position.

To defend their way of life and preserve their culture, the Yakan quickly took arms with simple blackpowder weaponry. It was the best they could do, especially since everyone had a thousand reasons to want the former prison in their possession. This all came to a head in 2252, however, when not one, not two, but three raider groups attempted to storm the walls via explosives and energy weapons.

It was a brazen attack that left 176 Yakans dead, but it was a siege that left 2,490 dead in three days. Consistent and disciplined rifle fire and the unique structural layout of the rebuilt prison wall and residential buildings made for an impenetrable defense for the raiders. Despite fighting continuing nonstop for three nights and days, the Yakans were determined to keep everyone out.

While successful in their defense, the Yaka could no longer trust the outside world; however, occasional skirmishes would continue afterwards for years until 2285, when Caesar’s Legion strolled into town. They were unlike the ragtag bandits and raiders that the Yaka encountered, but the Yaka were undeterred when they were confronted with superior technology, better-trained warriors, and equal numerical superiority. Like before, the Legion attempted to lay siege to the prison; however, the Legion realize the futility and attempted to seize the McAllister armory to obtain better weapons.

The Yaka heard of the news, however, and devoted half of their population for a surprise interception. Moving beyond the walls and dismantling the Legion encampments in the middle of darkness, the Yaka were too slow to make a difference, as the Legion detachment in question had already left the Yaka in the dust. With no way to stop them from taking the armory, the Yaka retreated back inside the walls and prepared for a bloody and intense standoff; however, the attack never came until a couple days later, where they encircled the walls again and bombarded the Yakans with rockets and grenades.

For two months, the Yakans laid buried beneath their own rubble, refusing to surrender or submit to the Legion. Sniper warfare and night raids slowly chipped away at the Legion, where they were gradually decimated to the very last man. Once the dust settled by November, 900 Yakans have perished, and approximately 3,200 Legion were dead; however, it was a hard-earned Pyrrhic victory that allowed the Yaka to survive at the expense of their home’s destruction.

In the years after that, the Yaka rebuilt their home, gradually replenishing their losses by 2300. From a tactical perspective, the Yaka-Legion War gone down in history as both a turning point and the darkest hour of the Yaka civilization. But beyond the Yaka, the Legion’s defeat halted any further ambitions and expansions into Oklahoma, as the staggering amount of manpower and resources devoted to the war brought the Legion nothing in return except a newfound wave of resistance and morale from every other community neighboring the Yaka.

But Yaka’s heroic actions didn’t entirely unnoticed, and the Yaka unexpectedly found themselves as a newborn regional power. In the decades since 2285, the Yaka found themselves as a source of great influence and recognition. Initially, the Yaka resumed their old ways and kept to themselves; however, it became increasingly apparent that the outsiders beyond the Yaka’s walls respected and admired the tiny nation’s achievements.

Reluctantly, the Yaka began to revoke their isolationism, and after much planning and preparation, the Yaka set out to begin a new age of expansionism...

Society:
  • The Yaka are known for their collectivist and minimalist practices and lifestyles. The secret to the formation of their culture lies from generations of ignorance and isolation. This allows them to create their culture, language, and traditions uninterrupted and uninfluenced from any outsider power; however, the Yaka are not exactly a perfect society.

Having no exposure to English or any other language in North America, the Yaka have their own language, known for its two word orders (VOS and SOV), small phonetic inventory (AEI / KNR / HWY), and agglutination. Because of the 'CgVC' phonotactics (g is a glide /h/, /w/, and /y/), words are easy to spell and write, with verbs always ending in '-R'. Vocabulary is very basic, but agglutination and pitch accent has allowed the Yakan language to rudimentarily adapt.

Despite all this, the Yaka lack religion, music, artwork (except literature), and social hierarchies. This is mostly by circumstances, but when considering the minimalist, egalitarian, and anarchic traits of Yakan culture as a whole, this is also by partial design. Because of their extreme inclination to stability and simplicity, change is often painfully slow or non-existent at worst ... unless it's necessary and/or useful for the Yaka.

What use is religion when the people are not only both followers and rulers, but no one has ever seen or heard of the gods, spirits, or any supernatural phenomena? What use is music when not everyone can play, hear, or understand it? What use is art when literary writing can tell the story just as fine? What use is social classes when all it does is create division and inequality?

Most distinctively, they wear matching uniforms, which is comprised of a peakless cap, grey tunic (sailor tie included), grey trousers, and grey hand-welted sheepskin hide boots. Everyone is dressed identically, and their haircuts are always kept short for both hygienic and cultural purposes. While it is illegal to modify the clothing, it isn’t illegal to wear a jacket and gloves in the winter, or go barefoot and bundle up the pants into shorts during the summer.
  • Since the early 2200s, the former prison had came a long ways from a bunch of dilapidated concrete hulks to a walled mound of boxy domestic buildings. Despite lacking electricity, the former prison resembled Catalhoyuk; mudbrick houses crammed together in an aggregate structure with no footpaths/streets. In addition to a wall separating the settlement from the outside world, the only means of access into any of the buildings were from the ceiling, with doors reached by ladders or stairs.

While the wall and its new extensions (made from the bricks/concrete of the many former buildings) are all what remains of the former prison, the open space allows for numerous community vegetable gardens to sprout throughout the settlement. This allows the settlement to sustain its own supply of food; however, water purification is rudimentary. Thus, despite lacking electricity and running water, the Yaka use drip irrigation for its crops, communal lavatories for waste disposal, simple cisterns and water filters for drinking water, washhouses for laundry, and communal kitchens and granaries for cooking and storing food.
  • The Yaka are extremely unusual for their lack of a central figurehead or political/ruling body/entity. That is because the people are the judge, jury, and executioner wrapped into one; however, decisions cannot be made without complete consensus. With this in mind, simplicity, stability, and security are paramount over everything else; however, none of this would be possible without peer pressure and collective vigilance.

Every law/rule is unwritten, with enforcement being collective and subtle. Hence, instead of a separate organization/group specialized in security/protection, every Yaka is an informant, actively watching, listening, or speaking about everyone's activates no matter how trivial or significant. Thus, whenever there is trouble/misconduct and a troublemaker/suspect is discovered, punishment is always implemented indirectly and gradually, minimizing attention and suspicion while quietly bullying, harassing, and isolating him/her until they admit and correct their mistake(s).

Murder and illicit sex (rape) are crimes punishable by death; however, due to the Yaka's inclination to subtly, the method of execution is gradual and covert. Starvation is the standard form of death penalty for the Yaka, as they can steadily kill the suspect over a long period of time and continue until he/she dies or her innocence is proven. At the same time, word would begin to spread about his/her heinous crime(s) and everyone stays away from him/her.
  • Due to the anarchist-communist principles and governance, the Yaka are simple-minded workers and farmers by default. Being a classless and collective society, every man, woman, and child is their own soldier, officer, and specialist, receiving the same training and treatment regardless of merit or seniority. Thus, the level of skill, discipline, and competence is rather basic and egalitarian; however, the Yaka have a few saving graces.

Among simplicity and standardization, safety is the most important aspect among Yaka militarism. Because their arsenal is comprised of flintlock rifles (minie ball and blackpowder) and bayonets, numerical superiority is extremely important, both to protect the group and maximize as much firepower as possible. Despite having nothing more than simple iron sights (open ladder type), no Yaka makes any offensive or advancing maneuvers without sniper or fire support - marksmanship is the difference between life and death for any Yaka.

Nonetheless, when on the offensive, the Yaka's caution and inclination to safety make them sluggish aggressors, devoting much effort to safely gain and defend a tiny amount of territory. Not to mention, a Yakan is a slow shooter, trained to always take their time aiming regardless of the situation - they only have one shot before needing much time to reload. Even worse, the Yaka do not have any beasts of burden or vehicles, thus further limiting their mobility and speed.
  • The Yaka are an agrarian society. Specifically, they live a life of growing and cultivating vegetables and spices; however, the Yaka lack domestic animals other than sheep and chickens. Potatoes, cabbage, carrots, kale, beetroot, green beans, onions, and soybeans are among the Yaka's agricultural arsenal, creating a vegetarian, non animal-based, gluten-free cuisine/diet mixed with a vernacular American-European cuisine.

On the other hand, the Yaka have a pre-industrial tech level. While standardization exists, the tools and equipment are very simple and primitive. Sickles, hoes, and shovels are used by the farmers/builders; hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers are used by workers/artisan; spinning wheels, looms, and knitting pins for tailors.

Due to their inclination to simplicity and standardization, scrap is either melted (metals/plastic/rubber) or broken down (wood/food/cloth), where it is recycled and reused for mass production. On one hand, the Yaka never let anything go to waste, and they can easily obtain large quantities of building material. On the other hand, the Yaka forgo variety in order to simplify production and construction, and more often than not, mixing different materials together create variably questionable qualitive traits in their products.

For instance, the metal is not entirely steel/iron half the time; numerous impurities taint the metal's strength. Because Yakan metallurgy is very primitive and refining techniques are almost non-existent, one batch might be half iron but part copper and part nickel, while another batch might be iron contaminated with large traces of tin, lithium, and aluminum. Clothing doesn't suffer this problem because the fabrics can easily be distinguished and separated, thus allowing for consistent quality.

The former Oklahoma State Penitentiary is situated on top of a shallow hill. But if one traced the perimeter wall, the community bordered onto flat ground and revealed the new face behind the wall. These are the Yakans.

The town inside the wall resembled the ancient settlement of Catalhoyuk, with almost every structure stacked on top of each other in an overlapping honeycomb pattern. Despite this, 75 percent of the space within the walls is grazing and farm land. Without a doubt, it was essentially its own self-contained world.

For Kirakyan, it was just another usual morning of chores and gardening. With a straw broom in hand, he was sweeping dirt and dust off the rooftops, all the while as he enjoyed the view of the outside world from where he stood. It was hard to imagine that this place was reduced to rubble a few decades ago...
