The Reformation: Recovering from the Cataclysm (IC)

Backstory of the Republic of California
It all began when the Cataclysm hit the entire world. Secession was running amok across the US and violence became commonplace. Many US troops from California returned home after fighting the Japanese, only to be ordered to maintain peace and order across the state. Riots broke out across Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento and other major cities in the state, as well as the Pacific Northwest. After the state government lost all communication with the US government, anarchy broke out. The Pacific Northwest collapsed and got torn apart by various warring factions. California, on the other hand, was about to collapse, but a group of US troops launched a coup d'etat in Sacramento. These troops were led by a WW2 veteran named Captain Arnold McKenzie. Following the coup d'etat, the "State Military Committee" began mobilizing all US troops and police departments in California for the purpose of quelling riots, thus declaring martial law. The so-called "Operation Riot Control" helped quell many riots and restore order across the state. Once the riots died down in 1946, the SMC declared California independent from what used to be the "United States of America". The Republic of California was proclaimed in the process and Los Angeles was chosen to be the capital. However, the SMC was still based in Sacramento and elections have yet to be held. For ten years, the ROC began setting up buildings in Los Angeles that would house the new Californian government (Presidency, Congress, Supreme Court, etc). After ten years went by, elections were held and Earl Warren, a Republican DA from the Alameda County, was elected the first President of California. The government finally moved to Los Angeles and the SMC dissolved. Since then, many policies were implemented and more elections were held. California would eventually annex Oregon, Washington and British Columbia in later years leading up to the present.

Question of Economy

Since the Meiji Restoration, the economy was dominated by the Zaibatsus ("Financial Clique") especially by the Big Four (Sumitomo, Mitsui, Mitsubishi, and Yasuda) along with other ones. The Politics, the Imperial Armed Forces, and even a decent part of the economy was controlled by them. Right now, even after the Cataclysm, although not with the same influence it once had, the Zaibatsu Mentality still survives, and her advocates. But now it's challenged by the Keiretsu ("System, Series, Grouping of Enterprises, Order of Succession") who gains more power, advocating for a decentralization of the Financial and Economic Sector, competing for the best instead of rule by few. This Keiretsu is widely supported by the New, Post-Cataclysm Economic Situation, and the Imperial Rule as it sees the Big Four as a challenge to the Chrysantelum's Power and Influence. In order to compensate both orders, a compromise exists, where the Zaibatsus still exist, but in a more decentralized manner, a sort of "Business Federation", and the Keirestsus can't be bullied economically. Along with other measures, hopefully, the economy will be more competitive and encourage faster growth.

Sailing the Pacific

With the Cataclysm Period gone, and the Empire of Sunrise already emerged from the Ruins, our mission to reclaim our Imperial Glory is underway. We are already expanding in the West and South by reclaiming Mainland Asia and going through Taiwan and Phillippines. The only direction remaining is the waters of the Pacific Ocean and her islands. We already have Iwo Jima under our control, but we are going even further, hopefully reaching the Jewel of the Ocean, Hawaii. The Imperial Japanese Navy is ready to sail the Pacific and reclaim the Islands under the fold of Japan. When we firstly announced our presence globally, the so-called Dominion of America warned us to not venture into the Pacific, but to hell with them. The Empire of Sunrise is free to do whatever it wants and will not be submitted to any nation, free as the birds in the sky, like the fish in the waters, our sailors shall adventure into the Ocean. Although this seems expansionism, we will let our Polynesian friends, we will let them have the islands in the Polynesian Sphere, but our claim for Hawaii might create some tensions, until then there is time.

This message is delivered all across the globe to announce that our nation has risen from the ashes of the most destructive war in human history. We have risen from the anarchy, from the Cataclysm. Japan is stable again and ready to enter this new dawn. Anyone who intercepts this message, please deliver an answer as soon as possible. The Sunset is Over. Time for Sunrise."

The message was something President Francisco "Frank" Dinochet couldn't shake off. His father, Lieutenant Ricardo "Ricochet" Dinochet, was a WW2 veteran who had fought against the Japanese prior to the Cataclysm, only to then die while assisting his new home country in upholding peace and order across the Pacific Northwest in 1959. Frank feared that the Japanese were trying to expand their sphere of influence again. He even feared that some US territories in the Pacific would fall under Japanese control. He and his people had hoped that California would annex Hawaii, Guam and other Pacific islands that were once part of the old US. However, he believed that the Californian military was just as efficient as its American predecessor, especially since it includes the United States Pacific Fleet, the Fourth Air Force (4 AF) and a lot of elite Marine Raiders. Frank doesn't hesitate to send a warning to the so-called "Empire of Sunrise".

The Members discuss on where to expand next. They point to Three Provinces in the old map. Beni, Casablanca, and Marrakesh. They transmit orders to settle in the provinces there.

Settlers get up and start walking. Within weeks, they will find Morroccans. They will appease them with equal rights, and a good government. Meanwhile, roads are being built between cities, for easy transport. The Department of Water starts putting in distilling stations in morocco, so that you can put sea water there. This will be good for the future.

Meanwhile, in Iberia, gun producers begin making designs of guns that would be good for the future. Things like the Enye Guns, they produce smaller automatic weapons. The Reims specialise in rifles, and the Franco do well in pistols. However, they are still Technology that could very well could've very well been developed in 1954. Research begins in how to improve this.

We must not let that happen. Whether Hawai'ian, American or otherwise, it is our duty now to protect our home of which we have called for decades now... Never again shall we let the outside world conquer us!

By the grace of our great King of the Second Kalākaua Dynasty, 'Iolani Ulani, the Hawai'ian people have found it within themselves to no longer allow their presence to remain a mystery to the world, for as we theorise, the great collapse of civilisation of the 1940's has not stopped the great cultures of this world to reform into Kingdoms, Republics or Empires of which had dominated beforehand. The message of which is being broadcasted is to be intentionally intercepted by our neighbors or perhaps even further onwards as so you may know that Hawai'i stands! In a very recent development of which has left our entire Island nation and people scrambling, in excitement, in worry, in intrigue and apprehension even, the Government of South Polynesia, under his gracious temporary Chieftain Ionatana Tuitama has announced that on this very day, the islands of Hawaii have made radio contact with Nuku'alofa...

What is said to be a Kingdom, which has unified the Island Chain, including Hawai'i, O'ahu, Ni'ihau and all the way to Pihemanu (Westerners may know it as 'Midway Atoll') in a similar way of which had been achieved in the early 1800's under the Kamehameha Dynasty rules the most northern, inhabited islands of Polynesia. Allegedly, the Hawai'ians are ruled with unity by the a claimate, an alleged relative of the old Kalākaua Family of Hawai'i, and are technologically advanced enough to access and send long range messages, as proven by this herefore contact.
The Government of Polynesia has already commented to us that this message was general and unspecific, and theorize that said message may have arrived to many another civilisation of our world. It is unconfirmed if our allies in the Sunrise Empire, Dominion of America or perhaps a Western Seaboard civilisation of which we have yet to know about have received it in addition, though we have been promised that the Government will make it in their best interest to find out...

Nevertheless, it is wonderful to hear that our northern brothers and sisters have recovered from the Cataclysm, and that they may yet agree to spur on a new age of Vasa Tele unity against the powers that be who may want to exploit the Ocean, as had occurred in the years previous to 1945.

The Temporary Chieftain of Polynesia, Ionatana Tuitama would have found himself rushing around, in overdrive with little break over the news, not to mention what he fears with what Military Officials had told him and not to mention the worries that had already occupied him even before... It was only a few minutes ago where, after being directed to the Long Range Transmitter within the International Discussion room of which had been established beforehand, when her gracious Chieftess, Malie Lea'ai had still been present and realizing her position, before the Socialist Republic of Australia, before the Sunrise Empire. To return to focus, he received a message from a place he could never have expected to receive from at the time, as indicated first by the screen flickering across the Long Range Transmitter object, reading:

Ignoring the fact the LRT still would need a recalibration to signify this new era, the location shocked him to the core... A message, from the Hawai'ian Island Chain, after so long... It was of his great interest to know of what it had to say, as neither bandits, nor impoverished survivors from lost military men or women transmitted messages so specifically...
Flicking some switches before pressing the button, a few seconds of static emanating from the machine would lead to the following message:

Ionatana Tuitama could not know of what the last sentence of the message could have possibly meant. He simply did not know what he assumed would be Hawai'ian, because whilst it may be similar enough to Maori, or Samoan or other Polynesian languages, it is distinct enough to be mostly unrecognizable jumble to him currently... But, the rest of the message was transmitted in English, and what it said was a bombshell dropped on him... The Hawai'ians had revealed themselves as an independent Kingdom, as had been in the early to mid 1800's before the old Americans came and oppressed the Polynesians, forcing them into their own country as per manifest destiny. The monarchy claimed to be of the second Kalākaua dynasty, as if it was related in any fashion to the old one, though perhaps it is, and it announced to not only South Polynesia, but as Ionatana Tuitama correctly assumed, the rest of the world as well, it's presence...
If what the Military Officials, obviously recognizing that Emperor Makani was not available, said was true...

An Hour Beforehand...

His gracious temporary Chieftain, Ionatana Tuitama was working... As usual, of course. There was much that needed to be done. No updates had returned of the Emperor's success, or perhaps failure with negotiating with Tōtaiete mā and the issue of the International Airport, and that was worrying indeed... So was Tasmania, as he had no idea, no communication from either the territory or even Aotearoa of what had occurred or what is occurring between them and the Mainland Australian president...
Aono Raina only continued to develop, and it was his responsibility to react to it...

However, during his work he was caught off guard by a loud knocking from the other side of the closed door of the room, and before he could even answer it, the unlocked door swung open and a rather well-built man had walked into the room, head held high yet with a tinge of worry etched on his expression. It was not one of his usual people, it was a Polynesian soldier, dressed in a uniform that bore a striking resemblance to the designs of the old IJA, as was all Military uniforms for the country, a cap on his head covering most of his hair, a turquoise spot directly centre dyed within.
It was Ionatana Tuitama to respond first, not the soldier... For in a presense of someone who, as marked by the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield on his back, could end his life uncomfortably quickly, though it would never be so, he would quickly stand, and give a short, nervous bow to the soldier.

The soldier, by the name of Keka Herewini would have become surprised himself by the actions. Though, following protocol in the presence of such respected figures such as the Temporary Chieftain, he would still give a stiff salute, ignoring Ionatana Tuitama's own mark of respect... With little time to waste, he would say to Ionatana Tuitama:

"Your gracious Temporary Chieftain, I come bearing striking news that requires your attention, as ordered by my superiors within the Royal Palace..."

Ionatana Tuitama would have recoiled slightly... For a national soldier of Polynesia to march into his office, announcing that he had an urgent message that requires his attention would only make him quite nervous indeed. For what could it be that required it to be so?
He couldn't think on it, especially on such a small amount of information. With the very slightest hint of a shudder, he would say with feigned confidence in return:

"What a surprise, indeed... Sir, please do tell me of what has gotten command so alarmed..."

Keka Herewini would have nodded quickly, and with a shuffle would reach his hand into his military blazer pocket, and retrieve a folded piece of sepia paper... With it in his hand, without thinking as if this was routine for him, Keka would unfold the by now crumpled paper, rush his hand over the aforementioned item as if to try and smooth it out before placing the unfolded paper, of which Ionatana Tuitama would find out showed what appeared to be hand-drawn formation of ships, marked by what appeared to be the old symbol of the Imperial Japanese Navy, as if to signify that the ships may be of the "New" Japanese state as the command may not have had the reference to use anything else bearing on the coordinates [ 15.304980, -176.862159 ] with an arrow showing them moving North East-East.
With the 'map' shown to the Temporary Chieftain, Soldier Keka Herewini would say quickly to the former:

"Command states that with RADAR newly established on the Aono Raina chain of islands, that a fleet of Sunrise ships are sailing across Vasa Tele, bearing towards the islands of the Hawai'i chain... We are not sure of their motives, but command, being the pessimists that they are believe that the Japanese-Koreans may be planning to orchestrate military and jurisdictional action against the Islands in question..."

"Soldier... You. No, sorry, Command can not be serious about this?" (In denial)

In response to this, the soldier would simply stand with a forced, blank expression, telling the Temporary Chieftain all he needs to know...

With a stressed sigh, Ionatana Tuitama would shake his head slowly, before looking back towards Keka Herewini and saying slowly, shakily

"This... Surely can not be? The Japanese promised us friendship, that they'd support Polynesian unity... If command's pessimism is correct, then they would betray of what they had said in action against Hawai'i, and whomever may be living there."
Polynesian Soldier Keka Herewini
"I, personally can not be sure. I want to believe that command's fears are unfounded. But, they are right to assume the worst, and report quickly. Hesitation is a shot to the head, after all... I have reported what command wanted of me to do, it is up to you to see fit to do with this information what you will."

Ionatana Tuitama would ponder for a full minute, wondering of what to do. The soldier had quoted "Hesitation is a shot to the head", and that resonates with him. Should he ponder and think on this situation for longer, or would instinct be more effective in saving precious seconds that, if the pessimism is true could most certainly be needed?
It would not take long to come to a conclusion. Ionatana Tuitama is a believer that the gut should be trusted, that action should come quickly... With a shaky hand, the Temporary Chieftain would signal for the Soldier to halt, before fiddling with the various pieces on his desk, quickly procuring an inkwell, quill and a piece of blank paper... He would sign his signature at top, before writing in the neatest handwriting he could given the situation:

Though I do not have the juristiction of the Emperor, considering that his majesty is absent from office currently, I shall take it upon myself to heavily suggest an action going forward, relating to the situation of Hawai'i, of which you have told me of via a soldier acting in role of a courier...

You are right to assume the worst in situations like this, and as I will too, I give you my blessing to command the Kiribati flotilla, under the command of Admiral Lewis Knowles to dispatch themselves to guard the waters, due two hundred miles around the Hawai'ian island chain, including the outer atolls and islands such as Pihemanu (If the American-born members do not recognise the name, they will recognise it as "Midway Atoll"), and alert the Sunrise Empire of your presence, as to either ward off of what our worst fears may be, or otherwise facilitate a response explaining their objectives...
Make haste... I am not sure how close the Sunrise flotilla may be.

Once finished with the writing, he would hand a now hastily written letter to Polynesian Higher Military Control to the waiting Keka Heriwini hastily, who would instinctively neatly fold it and put it inside his front blazer pocket. Quickly, the Temporary Chieftain would say:

"Please, soldier... Make haste and deliver my written response to your superiors, as so they can act on my suggestion...
May Rua-I-tupra bring you success and peace, sir..."

With a nod and a final salute, the Polynesian soldier, Keka Heriwini would march from the room outside, and soon enough return to the Palace to report Ionatana Tuitama's response and letter to them...

... Then he had all the more reason to fear the extremely tense situation now... Would both the Sunrise and Polynesian flotillas cause the Hawai'ians to react with hostility? And would the Kingdom of Hawai'i, as a political entity side with South Polynesia in what may be a Vasa Tele crisis? He should have confidence in that being the truth, but considering Tōtaiete mā, he cannot be fully confident in it being the case...

In response to the situation, Ionatana Tuitama would do what he does best, counter respond with speed. He would stare at the Long Range Transmitter for a few seconds whilst taking in a few deep breaths, he would turn the dials, flick the switches and finally press the button, so that a message would be sent towards Tokyo, Japan...
Leaning in ever closer to the machine, he would begin to speak into it, saying:

... And after he had sent his transmission to the Japanese, next he would have to address the Hawai'ians, for multiple reasons. He would need to butter them up in making them believe that South Polynesia supported their independence and self-rule for now, that Polynesia would cooperate with Hawai'i to help them in their fight for self-determination, for if the pessimistic belief of what the Command of the Armed Forces claim, it may already be threatened. In addition, he would need to warn of the Kiribati flotilla, of which he would assume the Navy would indeed send out to guard the Hawai'ian waters and ensure them that the flotilla would be "helping them retain their sovereignty"...

With some more dial turning, switch flicking and button pressing, a message would be ready to record and send to Honolulu... With a sigh and a deep breath, he would speak, saying:

Good day to you, your majesty Akihito of the Empire of Japan and Korea. I would like to discuss with you a situation that we both would most likely know about at this point, to deal with the Kingdom of Hawai'i...
It is doubtful that you receive this message before the Hawai'ian one, yet if you do, let me explain...

Very recently, South Polynesia had been made contact by Honolulu, of which the people on the other end reported that they served this one 'Iolani Ulani of the second Kalākaua Dynasty, a new King of Hawaii of whom must claim to be a descendent of the Kalākaua Family that ruled Hawai'i in the late 1800's, before the Americans dissolved them and unfairly annexed the chain into their own country. This establishes that, like the both of us, Hawai'i has reformed as a sovereign country after the Cataclysm...
I am not sure of what developments may come of this... It is obvious that Polynesia's plans to unify Vasa Tele and it's sovereign people as one, strong and influential power may be harder, now that Hawai'i is reformed by itself and with a powerful government such as a Kingdom.

On such a note, I fear that... Other powers may attempt to take Hawaii for themselves.
I must have faith that the Sunrise Empire still be honourable and kind in their dealings with South Polynesia, that your promise of supporting Polynesian unity and independence is still founded in truth...

May I first state that it is us Polynesian's utmost pleasure to see that Hawai'i, and it's peoples have not only survived the Cataclysm, but reformed as a unified country. I am Ionatana Tuitama, the Chieftain, or rather temporary Chieftain of South Polynesia... Like yourself, as one unified race, we had survived and then been brought together under the Polynesian Monarchy and a drive for unity to reform as a great federation all across great Vasa Tele. We are dedicated, like you as had been pointed out by your people of whom sent the message to Nuku'alofa to the self-determination and protection of the fine Ocean we share from the foreign powers that may seek to bring it ruin, as had occurred before the Cataclysm saved us from the jaws of imperialism, under the British, French and Americans.

We would like to inform you, that in the goal of protecting not only our, but your self-determination as an independent state, a group of warships known as the Kiribati flotilla will be guarding your waters from any foreign encroachment, as we have reason to suspect... We know that the southern United States have reformed into a great country of note, and that they also share the wish to defend Vasa Tele with what they could do from their position, and though we do not know of the Western Seaboard, it would not be difficult to imagine that a civilisation has formed there as well... In addition, the Japanese have reformed as well, and are sending unknown amount of warships towards your territory for unknown reasons. I hope that your mind does not instantly jump to Pearl Harbour should you think of the Japanese, but even if it was so, I hope that our own ships could prevent a repeat of that travesty... The Japanese have shown themselves peaceful to Polynesia's ambitions, including Hawai'i, and we hope that only continues...

Sorry for the information dump, but I hope it was educating to your highness... We hope that together, as Polynesian brothers and sisters we can bring Vasa Tele to a new era of peace and greatness, a time of prestige like our ancestors had achieved before European colonization.

The battleship São Paulo 3 smaller cruisers along with 1 submarine were sent following a large border conflict Brazil had declared war on Gran Columbia. Intelligence had shown that the first Gran Colombian battleships had been launched along with 2 destroyer escorts with Gran Columbia believing it to be secret Despite the strength of the Gran Columbian battleship the São Paulo was much more powerful. As the Gran Columbian battleship named the Bogotá approached one volley of shells hit the ships port bow, before the ship had time to respond a second volley of shells aimed skillfully went through the deck with the bullets exploding in the main magazine ripping the ship in half and sinking it. As the submarine along with the Cruisers sunk the escorts however 10 bombers and 6 torpedo bombers appeared intelligence hadn’t realized that these bombers had been there and although the battleship was fine with very little damage and the submarine wasn’t hit one of the cruisers was heavily damaged and the other sunk.

Up above the skies of London itself, an aircraft had just recently exited its Supersonic Travel and already starting landing procedures for the disembarkation of its passengers. Down on the ground, several figures watched as the aircraft made its landing and deployed its brakes.

Charles waited in anticipation as the Concorde Transport made its way towards the terminal to drop off its VIP passengers, He along with Grace watched as the tube of the Docking Platform attached itself to the Aircraft as it opened its doors.

Two Empires will meet in this opportune day, and it will be noteworthy in the pages of a new history..

X Corps
Fighting outside the Lincoln Memorial was quickly dying down as it was becoming very clear that the bandits had to retreat back up onto Constitution Avenue and start to make their way to the heavily fortified White House. During the fighting, the 5th Armored Division had made its way to the Lincoln Memorial. Now armed with imported Libyan tanks, they'd be able to destroy the bandit's fortifications with ease. They'd also provide some much-needed cover whilst the infantry divisions continued to chase the bandits onto Constitution Avenue. With the retreat of the bandits, X Corps would be able to be the first ones to reach the White House. If X Corps were able to capture it, then the Dominion would have to be recognised as the true successor to the Old Union. Fighting continued all the way to 17th Street NW, which X Corps quickly moved onto. From there, it would be a spearhead up to Pennsylvania Avenue and they would finally reach the White House.

XI Corps
XI Corps' fortunes had finally started to change, as armored reinforcements had started to break through enemy fortifications. XI Corps would finally be able to begin their push up Route 66. Their next orders would be to get onto E St NW and then push their way up to New York Avenue NW and then reinforce X Corps in the assault on the White House. XI Corps would have a slightly faster time pushing up Route 66, as the armored divisions quickly ploughed through enemy resistance. Eventually, XI Corps would make their way onto E St NW and start their push up towards New York Avenue.

XII Corps was in a trickier situation. Instead of dealing with retreating forces, they'd end up dealing with more troops than they were expecting. Where these troops were coming from was unknown. Nonetheless, they'd slowly make their way up Route 1 and prepare for their next push. Unlike, X Corps and XI Corps, XII was not going to the White House. Rather they'd be clearing out bandits from the former Federal Government buildings, as well as the old Smithsonian buildings. They had orders to leave the buildings as intact as possible and to protect whatever was inside. Anything that could easily be put into a bag was to also be taken, in order to temporarily keep them in Raleigh, whilst DC was rebuilt. XII had made their way up to Independence Avenue SW and started to push up their towards their objectives. Soon, all three Army Corps would begin to retake the former centres of government in DC and the Dominion would have to be proclaimed as the true successor to the Old Union. Perhaps, the Dominion government would even eventually move into DC. But that was long into the future. For now, those government buildings were still in the hands of the bandits.

The Scramble for Pacific

As soon as the IJN Fleet sailed across the Pacific, tensions sparked like wildfire, with the Polynesians, Hawaiians, Californians, and other Americans taking action in the Ocean, each with their own reason. Currently, Japan is reclaiming its former islands, with the American ones next. Hawaii, the Jewel of the Pacific Ocean is the stake right here, as the Empire of Sunrise wants to cement her rule against the Americans in the East. Although the Empire wishes no war, it will always consider this option if it's pushed around and threatened by various powers and will have enough power to defend and defeat those who oppose our nation. So far, Emperor Akihito is in London discussing with Emperor Charles the relations between our Empires and Pact against the Soviet Aggression. So in Tokyo, his son, successor to the Chrysanthemum Throne, and Crown Prince of the Nation, Naruhito temporarily took the place of his father in terms of decisions both internally and externally. He will have a busy period now with the Pacific Ocean Clashes sparking. Will he lead the Empire of Sunrise to peace and victory, or will it plunge into further tensions? While he was in the Imperial Palace, he received a transmission from the Polynesian Government, more precisely from Temporary Chieftain Ionatana Tuitama.

After the Crown Prince listened to this, he sat and thought about this. Japan's goal is to claim Supremacy in the Pacific but to also promote Pan-Asianism, and Pan-Oceania. A bad deal or outright hostility will hurt the image, and instead drift Polynesia into the Sphere of the Dominion of America, our enemy. Something had to be considered quickly. Along with the Prince, there's one of the Japanese Ambassadors to Polynesia, Eichi.

I apologize if you were in the middle of something important, but I have news that might interest you, and it's about the Pacific Ocean, actually, I have two separate news. First is that our reclamation of our former islands is going well, but the other powers are also in the Scramble for the Pacific Ocean like California, and the Dominion of America. This brings up the actual issue that we have.

On our way towards Hawaii, the IJN encountered a flotilla from Polynesia called Kiribati who is heading towards the same destination. So far, the IJN didn't do anything, but we fear that this fleet has nefarious intentions. You should clear the situation with their leader. As for Hawaii, no action was taken and it seems that it will let us through, and possibly dock in their ports where we will begin the talks in Honolulu, and hope they will accept our protection deal and give the Americans the Death Blow in the Pacific and finally secure Supremacy for our Empire.

The second thing, in some of our former Japanese Islands, a remnant part of the IJN who was sent in the Pacific to attack the former USA, has established the Imperial Pacific Authority, under Admiral Mistuo who wants to enlist he and his men back into the IJN. They were waiting for Japan to rise from the Cataclysm. They also have some ships to offer us, but the problem is that they don't have fuel to transport back into the Japanese ports so they will be repaired. Yes, decades of poor maintenance and sitting in docks got them rusty and quite defective, some are even older, dating back to the begging of the 20th Century, Interwar, or even WWI ones. They need to be scrapped and modernized, which might take some time and money to do, their crews and ours need to be trained to operate the newer ships.

My father is currently absent, as he is right now in London to discuss with Emperor Charles von Roland about the relations between the Empires. I am Crown Prince Naruhito and temporarily took the duty to rule the nation until His Majesty returns. We are well aware of the existence of Hawai'i and the Scramble that is in the Pacific Ocean. As for now, the Empire of Sunrise wants to reclaim her lost islands but also establish what will be Japanese-Hawaiian relations. The Dominion of America and the Republic of California are also participating in this Scramble and might attempt to tarnish our name for their own gains. We don't wish hostilities with either of the parties involved, but as you fear, some powers might attempt to take over Hawaii and establish Hegemony in the Pacific, while we want to protect it. We only want to counter this through your aid, but we also need the Empire to project as much power over the Pacific Ocean to deny our potential enemies this chance. We have reformed from the ashes of the Cataclysm, and our mission is to unite the people of both East Asia and Oceania and protect them from Imperialist and Opportunist Powers who have carved this Ocean for their own interests. As the Dominion reaches the White House, the VII Corps makes it's advance out of the waterfront. The raider's panic begins to show, as they become disorganized and are routed rather quickly by the NRA armor. The NRA forces continue their policy of not focusing fire on any raider moving towards Dominion forces, as the Southern VIII Corps triumphantly rolls through the Smithsonian, soldiers sitting on the sides of tanks for transport, playing music from their radios.

"London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared and battle come down"

Soldiers smoke cigarettes as they roll towards the Federal Triangle, while come dismount to secure the Smithsonian Museums and their surrounding areas.

"London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls"

They begin taking potshots at Raiders in the Federal Triangle.

"The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin

Soon enough the tank convoy reaches the Federal Triangle, and the NRA forces leave their radios on the tanks, who begin firing at the raiders with HESH rounds. Gunfire echoes throughout the air.

"London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, you can go it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out and draw another breath
London calling and I don't want to shout
But while we were talking, I saw you nodding out

The soldiers push into the Federal Triangle, quickly securing the FTC, National Archives, and Department of Justice buildings, and begin pushing westwards.

Gunshots continue to ring out as storm troops clear out the IRS building and it's surroundings.

The final raiders in the Federal Triangle fall back to the White House. NRA forces begin to follow before noticing that Dominion forces are just down the road from the White House. They radio it to command, and an airstrike is sent to destroy the White House.

"Now get this

And you know what they said? Well, some of it was true
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?"

An F/B-92 swoops in low before opening it's bomb bay and dropping it's full load of napalm on the White House. The White House begins burning, and so do the raiders inside it. (OOC Note: The White House was not fireproofed until late in Truman's term, so it would be able to be lit on fire, especially by something like Napalm.) The men watch as the raiders try to put the fire out with water, only making the napalm combust more in their attempts. Any raider inside the White House is condemned to a painful death, and the one's outside can only hope the fire doesn't spread.

Meanwhile, a group of the VIII Corps move to take the Capitol Building, which is now surrounded by NRA forces. Shock Troopers armed with AC-83 Carbines storm the building following a destruction of the outer defenses by HALT-91 Tanks. A well placed machine gun kills 5 and wounds 16 before an even better placed grenade takes out it's gunner. 3 round bursts echo through the chambers of congress, followed by Raider screams. Blood spatters across the seats of what used to be Congress, and after 2 hours of Close Quarters Combat, the Capitol is cleared out. Soon after, a Tank Company, along with an Infantry Regiment, are sent to secure the Washington Monument.

VII Corps focuses on taking as many civilian areas as possible due to their route to the capitol being blocked by Dominion forces. They cross Rock Creek into Foggy Bottom, taking George Washington University and the Washington Passport Agency with little resistance. The group coming from the North moves to take Chinatown and the Penn Quarter, and gun down many raiders who are retreating from the Federal Triangle.

As the situation in D.C becomes more tense, the NRA's top commanders come together to discuss ways to upgrade their military. President James Callahan is present, participating in the debate. With the possibility of Forest and Urban fighting, a unit of Elite Light Infantry is proposed.

While the tensions in the Pacific Ocean start to rise, Crown Prince Haruhito received a few messages from various countries, not linked to the current events that are unfolding. First, he received is from the Republic of California who may be our main opponent in the Ocean.

Well. The Prince's assumptions were right. The Republic of California already delivered its threat to the Empire of Sunrise under the mantle of claims over the former USA islands. So far, the Empire isn't particularly interested in the islands of the USA, but Japan's Power Projection over the Pacific may require them, especially Hawaii who we want to get, not necessarily through conquest as it's the last option available. There's Polynesia too who if we keep being friends, will provide us some aid in managing the Pacific away from California, or other contenders. It's been a while since we contacted a fellow Empire. It's about Svenska-Brittania and has agreed to a meeting in London to discuss the Soviet Aggression and further cooperation between our Empires. His Majesty, Emperor Akihito himself agreed and went to meet Charles Von Roland along with a diplomatic envoy. For now, no important news has been heard, but the Emperor arrived at the destination with the Supersonic Concorde Transport Plane. The plane came to a halt and the Docking Platform attached to it. It's yet to be seen how everything will go forward.

The Moroccan police force is established. The Parliament is now looking to go to draa and sous.

The Polynesian Armed Forces begin to prepare for the worst...

"Ready your rifles, soldiers! Raise the sights to your eyes, picture the wall before you as a contingent of enemy soldiers... These people will not question nor consider, they have been trained to end your lives and they will in the line of combat. You must be prepared to do the same, to protect yourselves from mortality, from the potential heartbreak of your relatives should you perish, and in failure on the battlefield, and thus the war...

... The stresses of service to the Polynesian armed forces would not let up, as had been found out by a now tired, yet still of being pushed to the limits Keka Herewini. It had not been hours ago since he had been sent from Camp Sunrise, to the Polynesian Palace, and then to the offices of his gracious temporary Chieftain, Ionatana Tuitama to deliver a sensitive discovery by Military command and for him to act on it... And, to the soldier's surprise, he did act upon the information, and quickly for that matter...

By any means, it seemed that even command was surprised, their faces told it all, even if they hid their sensitive conversations from his ''lowly'' ears... How they acted, he could not confirm, however it would seem quite likely as to what the result would be...

Nevertheless, such situation was not of what he was in... During the officer's short address, he would have raised his own Short Magazine Lee-Enfield, the butt against his shoulder and his eyes meeting the iron sights of the rifle... Taking a few deep breaths as the commander would have gone on about the usual, "Your enemies are ruthless, and thus you may be too" stickt, he would prepare for the eventual action... From what he knew, it was called the 'Mad Minute', and was apparently not only a technique that Polynesian soldiers still practice to this day, but the British Empire before the cataclysm in addition. It was quoted that the Lee-Enfield could be fired, and the bolt could be worked by the palm instead of the thumb to consistently land at the very least, twenty shots on target every minute.
The Polynesian Armed Forces recognise that their weaponry technology is... Lacking in comparison to the new, great powers of the world, yet what could they do? The islands are not known to allow for invention, let alone comfortable production, so for what the soldiers of the fine nation are concerned, they have to make do with what they got...

At the very best, some Polynesian soldiers would be armed with the old, French RSC 1917 Self-Loading Rifle. Most, had to rely on the stockpiles of SMLE MK.1 rifles left by the British on the islands at the wake of the cataclysm...

Keka Herewini would have, for the slightest milisecond recoiled when the commanding officer commanded: Fire! In Maori, a language he knew well, but not at all noticeable, as like his peers standing beside him, the thunderous clap of a bullet leaving the barrel of the rifle, followed by the recoil would have hit him both physically, and audibly all so suddenly. Keka quickly used the palm of his hand to cycle the bolt, before firing the second round not even a second later...
This would have repeated for more than two dozen times on average until the minute passed, the en-bloc clips being reloaded mid-way through as the dummy bullets were reloaded. By the end of it, the bullets numbering more than a hundred laid on the grass next to the now battered, yet not at all visually so wall directly in front...

It is often said, that the very rifles you hold can mimic a machine gun if fired quickly enough, and from what I saw, I would think just that if I could not see of what was firing at me... Don't get cocky, however... The enemy may well be armed with literal machine guns. It will take all of your knowledge to survive a technologically, and perhaps even numerically superior enemy, and you must not forget that.

You have fifteen minutes to do whatever you need to do, take a leak for all I know... I will be expecting you after the fact, do not be late."

From what is usually assigned, fifteen minutes is actually quite generous of calm... And that makes Keka Herewini, as he holsters his rifle onto his back and adjusts his uniform as he idles in thought, somewhat suspicious... Of the information he had to provide, and thus unintentionally snooped from, it seemed that command was worried... Of future action for Polynesia's defenders, of true active service across Vasa Tele...
He would have time to question all of this, as his active mind usually attempts to do in the few hours of rest that is provided at the end of the day...

The I.S Baltimore, rechristened from USS to I.S per the Heavy Cruiser's new service within South Polynesia, but retains it's original namesake due to the petitioning of it's American-born crewmembers.

It was an overcast day across the Pacific Ocean on the day of which had been one of monument for the Admiral of the Kiribati flotilla, his honour Lewis Hill, his crew on the I.S Baltimore, a ship that though given new life and active service by South Polynesia had successfully retained it's original namesake, the wishes of the predominantly American crew of the Heavy Cruiser being respected... And of course, the rest of the Kiribati Flotilla, including the famed I.S Mana, a destroyer who had not less than a year ago been sent to dock within the Harbors of Tokyo to spearhead discussion with the new Japanese Empire, the 'Sunrise Empire'.
Much like the Admiral himself, the Baltimore was the lead ship of a dozen other Light Cruisers, Destroyers and Corvettes of which trailed around the said Heavy Cruiser, as they sailed towards Pihemanu... Midway Atoll in order to indirectly intercept a Japanese formation heading towards the Hawai'ian island chain, to contest whatever actions that they may wish to do, to perhaps give off the impression that their efforts have not gone unnoticed...

They were not far from the Island that would have won old America a decisive victory against their opponent in the Second Great War, if the Cataclysm did not steal the chance. The Admiral in question, a man of whom claims his ancestry to his grandfather, a notable US Admiral during the Second Great War, Lewis Hill would be looking North-West, towards where the Atoll may eventually become visible from the fog of the distance from his position against the starboard of the ship, his body exposed to the airs of the Pacific Ocean... Albatrosses screeched overhead, the only sound that intercepted the noise of the engines of the Baltimore and the occasional footsteps of deckhands working across the ship...
It would not take long for him to be blindsided... In all honesty, the Admiral somewhat expected it, and had been ready to receive further orders from either command back in Nuku'alofa. What he was blindsided by, was indeed a deckhand, of American ethnicity, like himself and more than three quarters of the members aboard the I.S Baltimore. He looked like he had managed a 100 metres sprint, what with the sweat pouring down him, not to mention a rather alarmed, even if the deckhand would have attempted to hide it, expression...

Still of sound mind and physique to quickly stand sentinel as Admiral Hill turned around to look at him, and then quickly perform a salute for higher command, he would have then followed up with:

"Admiral Hill! A message had been intercepted by our communications, one that the Temporary Chieftain of Polynesia, Ionatana Tuitama had told us himself would be of true significance... I would assume it would be in your best interest to know of this?"

The Admiral would have retained a little shock from this, simply because he would not have first expected for a civil member such as the Temporary Chieftain... Or well, Temporary President would be. It had been common procedure for the messages to be filtered through the military before it was sent to the recipient, perhaps his honour was a little... Desperate and would rather act quickly than with procedure... Lewis Hill could not blame the man for that, the times of tension across the Pacific Ocean would call for such a reaction, after all.

These thoughts would be put aside only a second after, as instead the Admiral would respond to the Deckhand with:

"Good on you for reporting this to myself as quickly as you did, Ensign. If you could do the same with the message, it would thus be appreciated ever more..."

The chieftain had transmitted to the Baltimore with the following message, as of which I had written on paper as per your reading, whenever seen fit."

With such a statement finished, the Deckhand would have not wasted much time in retrieving a neatly folded paper note from his uniform pocket, before unfolding it once, and then twice to reveal it in it's full size. As it was noted by the mechanical style of writing, it was most likely written by typewriter, as would have been quite logical indeed... By any means, it was swiftly retrieved by Admiral Hill, of whom would have read the first page, detailing not Ionatana Tuitama's own words, but instead copied from another source... An official Japanese source...

Let me be brief here as to allow for reaction, and supplementary action on both sides to be performed quicker. Either you have already become privy to the Japanese dispatch, of which I shall be repeating for your information, or otherwise soon will be... The IJN, the Sunrise Empire's own naval forces have seemingly discovered your own Kiribati flotilla, as might have been expected, overtly noted by the dispatch mentioned above...

I need not remind you of the tenuous situation yourselves, and all Polynesia may be in this moment. As you and your crewmates, and flotilla are the preliminary men and women present for this situation, I would find it sensible that you have the liberty to act upon the information above. The Japanese fleet will not be stopping even with our presence on Vasa Tele's waters nearby on their headway towards the Hawai'ian Island Chain and the newly discovered government that resides there.
The armed forces agrees with my assessment. You may use any means besides active hostility and warfare to act upon the Japanese and their own actions as you see fit. I am sure that one of your lowers will note down the dispatch of which has caused me to react in such a way for your consumption...

Quite naturally, the Admiral of the Kiribati Flotilla had to take seconds to contemplate of all the information presented to him... The Japanese have discovered their presence, yet despite it will make no action on the matter as they continue towards the islands towards the east of their current location... As an American, Lewis Hill can only shudder at the thought... His father had told him of his own father's stories of the Second Great War, of the attack against Pearl Harbor and all the tragedy the Japanese had caused to not only his fellow Americans, but of every single national, racial and ethnic people they captured and subjugated, before the Cataclysm put a stop to them.
The name has changed, but Admiral Hill is unsure if the methods had as well... Intelligence of which he is privy to already states that this new country has annexed large swaths of the Philippines, not to mention Korea and perhaps even further onwards. On how the natives of these lands, places without government yet with lives are treated, he could only guess.

Despite assumptions, he knows that the mission comes first. Even if he has his reservations about the Japanese and their claims at being the 'righteous' power of the Pacific Ocean, he must act upon duty rather than feelings, no matter whether good or bad...

With the information that he has been provided with, he would look towards the Deckhand with a determined gaze, if anything masking his own nervous feelings, and ordered:

The Deckhand would not respond with speech, but a stiff salute, the slightest nod before marching across the steel and wood hull to fulfil his objective...
At this, the Admiral would be left to his own thoughts and following action. Thinking aloud with:

And he would be truthful with his self-objective... Marching from Starboard to enter the interior of the ship, a musky place of steel, dim lightbulbs and only the occasional room that could be even called comfortable, he would reach his own quarters, perhaps one of the most luxurious spaces on the I.S Baltimore, a room of white painted wooden walls, a round table prepared for eating, a bed with white sheets draped neatly across it, yet most importantly a rectangular table against a curio, which when the doors of said container were swung open, would reveal a bulky Long Range Transmitter.
Sitting against the table with a provided chair, he would tune the Transmitter towards:

I would firstly, like to inform you that the Kiribati Flotilla's presence around the waters of Hawaii are both that of righteousness, and peace, for we have the not so envious duty of monitoring and protecting their waters from acts of aggression that powers that be could potentially enact against the sovereign territory.
