Democratic Party Fundraiser, Washington D.C.
Image

Richard Douglas had been invited to speak with a few other representatives at a Democratic Party Fundraiser in Washington D.C. He brought his wife and children to the event after having dinner at an Italian restaurant nearby. They had come on a weekend trip, to see their father and visit his workplace and Washington D.C. As well as Felicia, Richard's wife attending the State of the Union Address with him. He had taken his children around the Capitol and some parts of the National Mall that day, after reviewing points from the President's State of the Union Address with his Chief of Staff John Maddox in the morning, both things he was to continue the next day.

After a few representatives spoke at the fundraiser he was called up "Hello everyone" he said as he walked up to the front "How are you all doing today? I'm Richard Douglas, Representative of Minnesota's Fourth District, I suppose not many of you know me. I'm a freshman in this congress, just elected a few months ago. I don't know the political system, but I know you, the people, ordinary Americans, working hard to make ends meet. You need a voice in this congress, you need to be heard, that is why I and so many other Democratic Members of Congress are working hard to represent you, to give you a voice, in a political system that too often rewards elitism. We will continue to fight hard for you, but we need your support, a dollar or two would really help as we continue to fight corporate power, backed by millionaires, giving their money to help government give them more."

"We cannot give anymore money to corporate power, to the rich CEOs, or the millionaires of America. Instead we must give back to you, ordinary Americans, struggling to make ends meet. We must help you, and I pledge that if you help us in our cause, we will give back to you. Presidential hopefuls like Jonathan Jackson want to give tax breaks to large corporations, and reward them for being large, for paying workers less. He wants to get rid of the minimum wage, Mr. Jackson the minimum wage is there because without it, what will large corporations pay their workers when there are no constraints? I'll tell you what, close to nothing, how do we expect the poorest among us to make ends meet, when their pay is so low? I don't think Mr. Jackson knows the answer to that, but living in a low class household in the midst of the Great Depression, I know. The answer to that I posed, is that they don't ends meet, they're lefts for days on end without a meal, without some of the basic principles of human life."

"Where will the dangerous proposals of the Republican Party leave you? The ordinary American struggling to make ends meet? They don't know your struggle, but we in the Democratic Party we know your struggle, and we will do our erst to help you."

Cybernetic Socialist Republics wrote:After recently reading the latest issue enthusiasm poll, Sofia Fraser asked a staffer her to bring her a copy of a transcript for Senator Boone's radio announcement of his Presidential campaign. She thought she remembered a proposal of his and she wanted to make that she'd remembered it correctly. Upon receiving it, she circled an important line.

The Grand Duchy Of Nova Capile wrote:[...]"Roosevelt's proposed Second Bill of Rights will become a reality— unemployment, exploitation, monopolies, and homelessness, things of the past. I believe every American has the right to a well-paying job, so I will expand the public workforce to quash unemployment. I believe every American should be fairly compensated for a hard day's work, so I will extend our minimum wage laws to guarantee every worker fair pay. I believe our farmers have the right to earn a living from their land, so I will vivify the Food Stamp Program and the Rural Electrification Administration, and establish new bureaus to uplift the quality of life in rural America. I believe in the free market, so I will enact robust anti-trust laws and place taxes on personal fortunes exceeding $1 million to prevent the inequitable hoarding of wealth by a shadowy few. I believe that no American should have to call the streets his home, and so I will subsidize public housing projects that put roofs over every American family. I believe that no American should suffer or die when adequate medical treatment is available, so I will establish a public health care system and declare war on disease. I believe that every American should retire comfortably, so I will preserve the Social Security Administration and ensure that pensioners enjoy access to public health care. And, finally, I believe that the future of our democracy rests in our youth, and so I shall re-invigorate the education system, ensuring that our nation is a leader in science, technology, and intelligence.[...]

Soon after, she decided to call Senator Boone:

Hello, Senator, it's Senator Sofia Fraser, I'm calling because I remembered a proposal you had when you announced your run for President, namely to tax wealth above $1 million. To be upfront about It, I have issues with that particular proposal, but the most notable thing to me is the fact that the constitutionality of such a proposal at the federal level is questionable, or at the very least it's possible it could be attacked as such. Therefore, I have an offer for you. If you propose an amendment to ensure that the federal government has the right to tax wealth, I'd provide my support to it. That doesn't mean I'd support your specific tax, but I'd back an amendment for the powers that'd make such a tax possible. I believe that one could make a strong case for this on the grounds of potentially needing such taxes in order to fund the war in Vietnam, but specifics aren't that important."

Senator Boone returned to his office after having attended the State of the Union Address. Which a gentle sigh, the Tennessean leaned against his desk, and looked through notes and briefings that his aides had left for him. As he got lower in the stack of papers—jotting down notices and and upcoming campaign events to his schedule—he found a note from about two days prior, which noted statically:

CALL FROM SEN. SOFIA FRASER, NY. INTEREST IN WEALTH TAX. CONST AMD FOR TAX IN QUESTION.

The Senator raised an eyebrow, and turned a page for the transcript of the call that the aid had recorded in writing. After reading the whole thing through, the Senator promptly got up from his desk, and took up the office phone, dialing Sofia Fraser’s office.

“Hello, Misses Fraser’s office, this is Senator Earl Boone. My apologies to not receiving your message sooner, you must understand I’ve been working on my campaign. So, you would support a constitutional amendment to tax wealth, yes?”

General Jonathan Jackson Campaigns in Ohio

Attacks "Defeatists", Pledges Victory in Vietnam and Law and Order in Streets

The Former Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers and current presumptive Presidential nominee for the Republican Party, Jonathan Jackson, gave a speech to his supporters in Columbus, Ohio. This came as a continuation of his campaign trail across America, travelling from one state to the next. In his speech, he blasted "defeatists", promised to lead America to an honorable victory in Vietnam and pledged to uphold law and order across the nation.

"America is the greatest nation on Earth," Mr. Jackson said. "We defeated Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany. We've held our ground in Korea against an onslaught of hundreds of thousands of Red Chinese troops. We have the mightiest arsenal in the history of mankind. Our brave men are some of the finest soldiers to have walked on this Earth. Yet... some people in the Democratic Party believe we cannot beat some communist bandits and the regime in North Vietnam that backs them."

"Those people have no faith in America or in our troops. They have no faith in America, because they hate America. Those are the very same people who tell you that you should apologize endlessly for things that happened centuries ago and believe that America is an "evil country". Well... I believe that America is the beacon of truthfulness, goodness and light in this dark world. I believe that Americans should be proud of their country. I love America!"

The crowd erupted into applause and chants of "America!"

"I have faith in our armed forces. I have faith in our resolve. I have faith in our country. I believe we can win in Vietnam. But we can only win the war if we have a President who has faith in America. If some defeatist Democrat gets elected to the presidency, how can we hope to win the war? It is quite clear that a part of the Democratic Party- I really hope not a sizeable one - has communist sympathies and espouses ideals antithetical to America. I would like to believe that my patriotic Democratic friends shall cordon off this wing of their party. But we cannot risk putting into power a President who - due to his party - would be beholden to communist sympathizers. It would be catastrophic for America."

"As Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers in the Pacific and as Commander-in-Chief of the UN Command in Korea, I know first hand how to beat the Vietnamese communists. I know the tactical, strategic and logistical problems that need to be addressed in order to end this war with an honorable victory. We must increase the number of troops in Vietnam. We need a sizeable force - backed with the full might of our arsenal - to march into the North and liberate it from the communists. Not only will such a strategy end the war, bring back home our boys in just a few months and get us an important ally in South Asia, but it would also send a clear message to Red China that we are not be messed around. If Red China knows we are serious about stopping communism, then they will be forced on the negotiating table on our terms, dealing a blow to Soviet plans of dominating Asia."

"Aside from victory at home, though, we need victory on the domestic front too. My tax cuts aim to allow people to keep more of their hard-earned dollars - instead of them being grabbed by greedy politicians in DC to pay good for nothing bureaucrats. They will also incentivize companies to hire more workers, creating good, well-paying jobs in the private sector. My military manufacturing plan - to equip our allies- shall create thousands of new jobs. My healthcare plan shall allow our elderly to receive good healthcare without burdening too much our budget or creating new debt."

"But, most of all, I pledge to enforce law and order across the country. Racial extremists of the left and right riot, murder and vandalize. Hippies and other communist sympathizers disobey our laws and corrupt our youth, leading them to lives of crime, debauchery and moral degradation. As President, I shall increase federal funding for our police and push for harsher sentences for criminals. I shall implement a zero tolerance policy towards political and racial violence; extremists of the left and right shall be brought to justice and our roads shall be clean, peaceful and crimeless."

"I pledge to fight back against the corruption of our youth. I shall push for the criminalization of the burning of our flag and of the disrespecting of our troops. We will not allow crypto-communists to disrespect our flag and our boys at the front. I shall organize a National Council comprised of prominent pastors to formulate plans to instill our youth with proper moral values. I aim to built a moral coalition that will push back against degeneracy and bring back proper moral values to our society. Universities that teach lessons that propagate communist and anti-American ideals shall be defunded. It is time we fight back against Marxist indoctrination in our high institutions."

"As President, I will beat the communists in Vietnam, I will cut taxes for everyone, I will create thousands and thousands of good, well-paying jobs, I shall crack down on crime, enforce law and order, and instill moral values to our youth. I shall fight back against communism, both abroad and at home. Together, let's make America even greater!"

THE LAHDE 1960 OFFICAL CAMPAIGN PLATFORM
'Liberty Starts at Home!'

In this crucial election, America shall define itself for the upcoming decade. Montana's respected Senator, veteran and manufacturer wants to bring his idealism and commitment to the White House; Lahde promises change that makes this great country greater. Being a leading job creator has given him a lifetime of experience in working shoulder to shoulder with respected Labour Unions and ordinary bread-winners, doing right by our many diligent workers and maintaining the beating heart of our economy. Serving his country half way across the globe, fighting side by side with our boys against Japanese Imperialism, has given Floyd a vast understanding on the price of liberty and the never ending struggle to maintain it. Senator Lahde has always maintained that individual freedom, economic liberty and human individuality are the unseen sacred tenants etched onto the pillars of our country's Senate. 'Liberty Starts at Home' he has told time and time again, if America is to triumph against it's enslaving enemies then liberty has to triumph at home.
A proud father, a loving husband, a solemn veteran and a dedicated Senator; Floyd isn't just a liberal, he is red-blooded American.

/ Senator Floyd Lahde diligently supports protecting the rights of all Americans, no matter their race or religion. The gates of heaven do not see tones of skin, only the colour of your soul. As President, Lahde would support some measures that defend the civil liberties of all Americans. Working with Southern leaders to discuss and implement positive change.
/ Monopolies exploit our hardest and most diligent workers, wrecking small businesses and opportunities for expansion, instead of over-drastic tax-cuts we should challenge large conglomerates and focus our time and investments into small businesses. Punish exploitative practices with taxes, increase oversight and give small business less bureaucracy to go through.
/ Increasing the minimum wage from $1.00 to $1.20 and beyond will be a directive of a Lahde presidency. Increasing the spending opportunities of everyday Americans will only cause upward growth.
/ Free-Trade maintains peace, outcompetes Communist nations and allows our manufacturing to grow. The development of more free-trade treaties that assert American interests abroad will give our employers greater market opportunities.
/ America is falling behind in tech innovations, the Sputnik shows us that. In order for America to reap the great many benefits of space and show our incredible genius we need to support our new founded N-A-S-A organization, out competing the Soviets in a crucial field of scientific endeavours.
/ Atomic energy will be the energy of the future, creating safe nuclear powerplants and investing in atomic energy will reap great benefits for America's energy independence and energy prices. Investing in atomics will greatly reduced the bills of everyday American families. Transitioning from gas & oil towards slowly, keeping our workers in mind, will bring America into the future.
/ America must increase it's ties to the third world and help when it has the right opportunities to help, the newly thought of 'Peace Corp' and a range of diplomatic assets will shield many countries from the threat of Communist influence. Trading with and supporting third world democracies will protect liberty globally.
/ In a time of espionage, coercion and back-stabbing from the Communists we me must be careful and assertive in our diplomatic dealings. Strengthen ties with Western Europe, the Oceanic nations and free states of Asia instead of using military force will yield many benefits. We must use the great array of Soviet tactics against them, instead of treating valuable men and resources as expendable.
/ The League of Nations is a great lasting American achievement, we must use it to the best of our ability and assert our interests through it. Increasing dialogue, avoiding nuclear exchanges.
/ American Exceptionalism doesn't end militarily, American art and cultural innovations must be praised. Lahde supports the creation of a U.S. Department of Arts and Culture, serving the role of encouraging and representing grass-roots arts.
/ More grants in the field of education & more colleges will help or next generation become the best they can be. We need to substantially invest and take care of our youth for they will inherit America.
/ Lahde supports the gradual implementation of voluntary-based health insurance system, covering ailments and other emergencies all while lowering the cost of insurance due to collective contributions. The well-being of our people is of great priority to national security and development.
/ Law enforcement must crack down on the distribution lighter drugs that create addictions and violate the youth, Floyd believes that drugs are a threat to the well-being of everyday citizens.
/ Though the pathway for immigrants to integrate must be maintained and in certain aspects made swifter, America has a limited amount of space and resources - immigration cannot drastically change America and it's everyday life.

SENATOR SHARP DELIVERS "VARATION" OF DEMOCRATIC RESPONSE
Denies this is "official" Democratic Response
Democratic Chair mute on difference

By Mordecai Flanders
January 27th, 1959
Speaking into an CBS microphone, Senator Joshua Sharp of Mississippi lambasted the President in a "variation" of the Democratic Party's Response. Sharp himself was hesitant to declare the broadcast an "offical response", understanding the objection of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party when a dixiecrat in white robes and a pointed hat would speak about civil rights policies. The Democratic Communications Chair was reached for a comment on the dispute, but did not get back for a response to Senator Sharp's comments.

"Greetins, Y'all. You are Listening to Joshua Sharp, one of Mississippi's finest. Mississippi's elder statesman, and a self-proclaimed 'Defender of the Deep South, and it's practical Political Progenitor and Grandfather.' I must say I was at least begrudgingly impressed as I sat there for an hour or two, listening to some small mouthed politician blab on and on what he'll do about the last two years of an Administration. I understand that these are simply nothing more than pageantry and illustrious showmanship. Ten years from now, will anyone give a damn what that Davis feller said or did? No! Same thing with this speech y'all might fire right back at me? I respectfully disagree. This is simply and plainly a case of the party opposition expressing their concerns.

It might even lead to some campaign issues or an eye-to-eye understanding between Democrats, Republicans and Joshua Sharp on issues. I'd like that, America would like that. A Congress that is the smooth engine of the country, with the President the driver and the United States the Car. This Car just so happens to have fifty wheels on it. Should a few wheels break off, like Mississippi or South Carolina secceeding legally from the Union as they might, then the driver would have a harder time driving the car.

I fully understand that the Presidency is one of the most stressful jobs on the planet. I know I shouldn't say this, but I'll wager a speculative guess that Stress is what killed F.D.R. It's probablly what killed President McKinley and a bowl of cherries is what knocked off Whig Harrison, or was it Zhackary Taylor? Might have been James Buchanan. Showmanship that, I as a Senator, have been quick to grasp and understand. Many of you listening at home on the radio of the President's Adress may wonder why the Democrats must play politics with possible impeachment proceedings. This is not simply 'playin' politics, this is upholding the honor of the Constitution.

This is one of the greatest honors as u.s citizen can have in life. To serve as the commander-in-chief requires a clear head and litle distractions. The President has clearly let his dedication to the job slack over the years. He has assembled a team of corrupt and incompetent buffons at the very top. He is a young man, easily manipulated by those surrounding him. I know I would steer clear of personal attacks, but I cannot simply be a bystander as the Statue of Liberty is obliterated and made light of by those holding all the keys to the power! He has been dishonest to his wife and caught lying to congressional committees in 'telephone calls' and should be removed from office in a timely and efficient manner before the start of the new President's Term in January of 1961.

As I have not yet been able to garner another response to President Davis, I see this platform as an effective way to reach the millions of keen ears and American families now huddled around their cherished players.

I am disappointed in the direction this country has been taken in the last decade. I wish for the good old Democratic system, ones where my father used to grow up at. A decade in which I grew up in all those many years ago. It was a time of never-ending prosperity for all involved. Now, as the poor get richer and the large businessmen's pockets are continuously squeezed dry, I ponder to myself, why are we strangling investment? Why have we been screwing over the farmer? As a Senator who comes from a farming community, or with neighbors that have been farmers, or even with chats between constituents, they all come to me and complain about how prices are low, how they've been forced to sell out to make way for the 'future.'

This is not a future that my constituents or any poor person within the Southern, Northern, Eastern or Western United States can feel certain of the outcome. This is not a future that the President initially promised us when he not only first ran, but had the gaul to pinky promise just so he could snatch up the traitor of Louisiana in '56! This man can only count in distinctions of four. That's when he's up for re-election! Y'all notice that he changed slightly whenever an election is just around the corner? I have. I'm disappointed in him for that. Politics ought to be left at the door when you enter that house. Not the Senate, we can complain and play politics because that's what our constituents ask us to do, besides deliver pork to each state. Mmm. Pork... I'm gettin' damn hungry now.

As for the state of the Armed Forces, I am very dissatisfied, not only with our current foreign policy but with the conduct that domestic affairs plays into it. With respect to the American flag and those that fight and die under it, I ponder why it is our missiles are lacking. We currently have a missile gap with the Soviet Union. For the layman, I shall explain simply, The Soviets can launch their missiles farther and with more destructive capability than our current arsenal. This leaves America at a strategic and geopolitical disadvantage in that field. I understand that this gap is shrinking supposedly day by day. I have worked tirelessly in the Senate to throw money at military research so as to keep one or two steps ahead of the red commie bastards. The Davis Administration has had other priorities it seems rather than keeping America truely safe and secure from foreign threats.

When we come to the polls in November of '60, I want the voters to keep this in the back of their minds: are you really well off, are you really better than you were eight years prior? Do you enjoy more money in your pockets, do you enjoy the feeling of less negroes polluting the waters around swimmin' holes or in schools? The answer to the second is a befuddl-biting no. Because this president, this administration, this Republican Party has run roughshod over Congressional oversight and the Constitutionality of the Supreme Court! He has blatantly sent in troops against the legitimate and right actions of a state. Good on [not Orval Fabus] for sendin' in the National Guard. I am furious that the President forcibly federalized a state military force. Is this not the precursor to a nation-wide de-seg-rega-tion effort? I urge all governors to reject such destabilizing forces. I urge all state-loving Mississippians, Georgians, tenneseeians, Alabamans, Floridians, Coloradans, mexic-new mexiceens, Texans, Oklahomans, south and north Carolinians, virginians, west virginians, and arkansawners to reject such radical communist propaganda.

As you know the communists are the ones that integrate their races. They are the ones that muddle such a gene pool of the pure whites with the unwashed and unkept negro race. Race-mixing is communism. They are the ones ruining your lives, Boys and Girls of 'murica. All southern states must band together. That is why I am a proud signatory of the Southern Manifesto. We are in opposition to increased government in the lives of Americans. Americans work best when we work on together, without the help of government handouts. I want a return to, and forgive me for borrowing a quote from my favorite President, indeed one of the only Republicans I voted for, Warren Gamaliel Harding. 'a return to normacly.' That is what I promise and pray for every day. I've taken up enough of your ears America.

Please, remember that the opposition has spoken, like it is legally required to. Let us hope that President Davis does not turn into a dictator to muzzle free-speech like yours truly. Thank you all for listening to me. I thank those that disagree with me, those whom I haven't altered their minds, even those that wish for me to either be killed or maimed or worse. You have that right to say whatever you damn well please. I just hope that you wish for my right not to be trampled because you've got your panties in a knot over what I've said. God Bless America and Amen."

Albany, New York - New York Executive Mansion - Governor Fraser's Office

With platforms being released and policies being committed to, Governor Fraser finally decided that he'd be announcing his Presidential run far sooner than he was originally planning on. This wasn't much of an issue, he already had a speech ready, and he was going to use recent events as his pivot into running for the nomination. However, he still had one last major policy meeting before the up coming budget for the state of New York. He decided, that he wouldn't be rushing the budget, however. There were proposals at the federal level that'd have a significant effect the math of a lot of his plans, so there was no need to rush. It'd passed at the end of March, as was originally planned, and he'd use it's successful passing as yet another moment in his presidential campaign. But first, still needed to make sure, that his top economic policy advisors, Robert, Dorothy and William, had sufficiently built out the structure of his policy initiatives so they'd be ready for when the budget was finally ready to pass. The three young academics came in, carrying material regarding the Housing Initiative, Infrastructure Plan, Bank of New York and New York Permanent Fund. First, Dorothy would speak.

"Governor Fraser, let's start with the Housing initiative. We have decided to take a more assertive tact when it comes to the building a new affordable housing units than we had previous considered. Originally we were thinking of simply depending on building out positive incentives for local authorities to change zoning laws, but recent communication with a variety of municipalities has made it clear that there are plenty of entrenched interests making decisions that are less than entirely subject to the public interests, to put it as gently as possible. Therefore, we're going to empower the Bank of New York, who's creation William will cover later, to go in and override local zoning and use eminent domain as necessary to build out our housing infrastructure, when necessary. Additionally, we'll see to the creation of semi-public bonds to fund the construction of housing that is not fully publicly owned, to show the real estate industry that we are committed to this assertive construction program. We'll also build new constructions with our infrastructure plan in mind, which Robert will explain next." Finished Dorothy.

"Right, on to the Infrastructure Plan. Federal governments aid in constructing highways has been and continues to prove to be helpful, but it is some ways lacking when it comes to aligning with the interests of an effective public transportation system. Our goal will be to work to massively expand the usage of public transit in this state, and in accomplishing that goal we'll have to work with around around the federal government where necessary. Additionally we will, like with the housing initiative, make use of eminent domain where necessary to maximize the general economic effectiveness of these constructions. As you said in your inaugural speech Governor, infrastructure should be seen as a multiplier to general economic growth, not a burden or a cost to be mitigated. To that end, we are in fact moving to a pricing model that keeps prices and tolls as low as possible, sometimes even free, when it is well below capacity, using prices and tolls for the purpose of preventing over usage instead of charging as much as we possibly can on usage. Just as we do this for transportation infrastructure, we'll be doing this for our water, electricity and other utility infrastructure. Additionally the money made from these tolls and prices will go towards bringing private roads, power generation and other facets of our infrastructure under state control, so that we can uniformly employ this usage promoting pricing model. Lastly, we suggest advocating for, and being open to, the construction of nuclear power planets, as that becomes increasingly commercial feasible. We believe there is a security that'd come from having nuclear based electricity infrastructure instead of a traditional infrastructure, as the price and supplies of fuels can change suddenly under our current means of electricity production." Robert concluded.

"Lastly, though certainly not least, is the core of not only these proposals, but the others we have discussed, the Bank of New York. This will be only the second state owned bank in the union, after North Dakota's, though in many ways this proposals is not quite as far reaching, proportional to the state. We've been in regular contact with the finance industry about this, assuaging concerns and taking suggestions, so that we don't step on their toes. All in all, attitudes are mixed to surprisingly positive, as many see it as a state provided entry point into the larger world of finance provided by the big private sector players. They just, of course, want to ensure that the mandate of the Bank of New York remains restricted, and it never becomes a competitor, something that's going to be important in discussing the mechanics of the New York Permanent Fund. As mentioned before, the Bank of New York will manage the Mincome checks and provide loans to businesses and manage our housing infrastructure. But, of course, it'll be providing a rainy day fund for the state in the form of the New York Permanent Fund. As I said, the the finance sector does not want the Bank acting as a competitor in anyway and in the spirit of that, we've come to agreement on how the fund will invest. Rather than actively making decisions on stock purchases, sales and actively trade, it will instead take an equal long position on equity securities across the full breadth of the market, taking a fully passive ride on the marketplace, with our position only changing in size. This will ensure that the state does not distort the market, by suggesting in any way that a given security is backed with the specific interest of the state. It ensures that the only interest we have in the market, is in increasing it's capacity to thrive as a whole." Finishes William

Tom Fraser had been simultaneously listening and looking through the material that was provided to him. After the three finished talking, he finally looked up, with a mix of satisfaction and relief.

"Well, then, this all seems excellent. Apart from the civil rights legislation that we'll be passing, that should be all for our pre-built agenda. At this point, the governorship will mostly about responding to and managing emergent issues. Good job gentlemen and gentlelady. It's good to get this out of the way early this morning, because I have a media event I'll be attending, just in time for the evening papers to be able to print about. I won't tell you what it is, but I'm sure you can guess and as I've hinted at already, I'll want you and some of your friends to play a role. You three have seen great success with your current endeavors and it's time for an opportunity for even greater, national success." Governor Fraser said.

Governor Fraser announces his run for the Presidential Nomination of the Republican Party

Standing next to his wife, Governor Fraser criticizes the presidential field, takes aim at General Jackson's 'Corporate Employment Tax Benefit' calling it a plan for 'federal bureaucrats to provide bounties for big business poaching talent from small business'

"My entrance into this Presidential campaign is a product of intense dissatisfaction with the existing field of candidates and the teams behind them. We face the prospect of a Democratic Party lead by a nominee that either embraces defeatism in the face of totalitarianism abroad, or one that supports the imposition of the racial supremacism and race-strife mongering that tore Europe apart less than two decades ago and left it ripe for conquest by the force of tyranny out of Moscow. In the Republican party, the field is split between a Bradford Campaign, which has little agenda outside of vague opposition to the Democratic Party he left at the start of this year and a Jackson campaign whose plan for the economy amounts to attempting to bribe the American people with their own money, by means which would fail to ensure victory in Vietnam, respect small business owners, encourage economic growth, or protect the value of the dollar in your pocket.

In these trying times, the Republican Party must offer to America a presidential candidate that can embody a modernization of the emancipatory agenda of our first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, as we head into a new decade. A hundred years ago, our nation sat divided, half slave and half free, and Lincoln prosecuted a war that saw a move toward the light of freedom. Today, our world sits divided, half slave and half free and we must, with similar vigor, be ready to fight for it's unity in freedom, or we will soon becomes slaves. I enter this race with the conviction that I will be the candidate that can live up to the task of this coming decade.

Since my being elected as Governor of New York, I've pursued an agenda that seen the pursuit of mutually reinforcing Economic Freedom and Economic Security for all. Welfare reform, tax relief, education, childcare and the development of infrastructure have all been part of this agenda. It is these lessons, taking in account diversity of people's, customs and views that exists in this great nation, that I will work to see implemented as President. Already, the proposals presented by my wife, Senator Sofia, the FREE Act and the FORTIFY Act, represent the tip of the Freedom and Security agenda. The latter, see's to the provision of childcare to support women's participation in the workforce, something that the second world war taught us is of critical importance in the successful prosecution of a total war against tyranny and therefore must be incorporated in our war against communism in Vietnam. The FORTIFY Act being as forward thinking and beneficial as it is has even, despite being unrelenting in it's commitment to provision of services to all regardless of income, race and color, managed to win support among some Dixiecrats. As for the FREE Act, it is a proposal that commits to the end of poverty for all those willing to better themselves, while simultaneously cutting down on waste in the federal bureaucracy and destructive infringements on economic freedom nationwide and has seen support from Conservative Republican quarters, particularly in the form of an endorsement by General Jackson.

I applaud General Jackson for that endorsement, however his own tax reforms falls well short of being fit for our moment. As President Davis rightly pointed out in his state of the union address, we have climbed out of a recession without 'hastily-improvised public works projects', the likes of which we've recently seen proposed by Senator Ladhe or 'untimely tax reductions', the likes of which the Jackson Campaign has recently put forward. The American people's primary concern is with the successful conclusion of the conflict in Vietnam. For that we need both sound finances and sound military procurement. General Jackson's proposals and rhetoric stand contrary to accomplishing that. As President Davis put it in his state of the union address, the fighter aircraft of the day cost fifty times that of the fighters of the second world war. I say that to make the point, that when one makes commitments to cutting government waste, without mentioning specifics, there often comes a moment when functionality is sacrificed for rhetoric and one find oneself committing the sort of vacillations in strategies that President Davis rightly pointed out end up being destructive to morale, inefficient and costly, under the false conviction that you can accomplish the same ends with less investment with a different strategy. This sort of thinking leads inevitability to catastrophic errors in all parts of governance and unfortunately we already see the bitter fruits of this in General Jackson's 'Corporate Employment Tax Benefit' proposal, something that my wife, Senator Sofia, has already pointed out but I ought to repeat.

Firstly and quickly, a simple point must be made as to the mechanics of corporate taxes, a point that is often avoided out of cynicism regarding the sensibly of the American people at best, or a desire to mislead at worse. Corporate taxes are imposed on corporate profits, not on their revenue, meaning that they do not directly impede a corporation's capacity to invest in themselves. They can, hypothetically, impede the willingness of institutions and individuals to invest in corporations, but the health of our economy makes it clear that this is not a issue out our current level of taxation.

Secondly and extraordinarily worrisomely, are the incentives created by General Jackson's 'Corporate Employment Tax Benefit'. He proposes arbitrarily, at the lowest level, reducing the corporate tax on corporations who employ 50 Americans in a year. Firstly as Governor of New York and simply as an aware citizen, I can tell say with confidence that most small businesses don't have 50 people on the payroll at any one time never-mind can afford to hire 50 in a year. So it is clear that General Jackson and his team are unconcerned about providing these benefits to small businesses, because he'd have a federally bureaucrat arbitrarily decide that being large enough to hire 50 or more new employees makes one worthy of a tax advantage, with advantages increasing with the increasing capacity and therefore size of a given business.

Additionally, these tax advantages are inherently worth more for a big business than a smaller ones. Overnight, it'd become profitable for the biggest businesses in the country, to offer the employees of small businesses, featherbedding jobs to do nothing but provide fodder for an arbitrary tax advantage provided by the federal government, draining thousands if not millions of people out of productive work, while simultaneously blowing a hole in the government's finances. Then there's the fact that this corporate tax advantage means that investment in larger businesses would, by decision of the federal bureaucracy, be more profitable than investing in smaller businesses, starving smaller businesses access to external investment while squeezing their ability to invest in new workers should they scrounge together such investment.

General Jackson's ill thought out 'Corporate Employment Tax Benefit' would pull the dollar out of your pocket, grab at the two sides of the basis of it's value, our productivity and sound finances, then rip it right it through the middle, afterward having a federal bureaucrat distribute the scraps based on a corporation's capacity squeeze small business. Rather than know when to course correct, the Jackson' campaign's response to it being pointed out that his policy is effectively a plan for federal bureaucrats to provide bounties for big business poaching talent from small business for featherbedding purposes, was to insinuate crypto-socialism on the part of it's critics in D.C. and implicitly my own wife, Senator Sofia.

It is that backwards intransigence that finally pushed me to seek the Republican nomination for President. Heading into the 60s, we need fresh clear sighted leadership that can that has the capacity to avoid errors ahead of time and the guts to correct course when necessary. In a world that's never been as dangerous now, thanks in large part to power of atomics, our survival requires nothing less."

Senator Earl Boone Makes Speech in Somerset, Kentucky

Democratic Candidate Criticizes Jackson, Acknowledges Fraser’s Run

The Earl Boone Presidential Campaign took an opportunity to take aim at recent remarks made by Republican candidate Jonathan Jackson at an Ohio rally. Senator Boone made the following remarks during a speaking event in Somerset, Kentucky.

“For all of Jonathan Jackson’s expertise on foreign affairs and the military, his crude domestic proposals have no such luster. From his corporate employment tax benefits to the recent measures he supported in his recent speech, the policies of a Jackson presidency would harm small businesses and the unalienable rights enshrined to the American citizen in the Bill of Rights. Thankfully, it seems Jackson’s own party has voiced opposition to these disastrous schemes, and will be running the Governor from New York against him in the primaries.”

“Jackson wants to criminalize protest against the war in Vietnam, and make it illegal to burn an American flag. I myself am every bit as supportive of our military efforts in Vietnam as Mr. Jackson is. Those who have paid any attention to my campaign will know that I quite frequently have said that we cannot afford to give the communists any advantage; any ground, because if we give the communists an inch they will take a mile. We cannot leave Vietnam to fall, as some of my fellow Democratic candidates have proposed. However, regardless of my views on the war in Vietnam, I think it would be a grievous violation of the First Amendment to penalize those who disagree with it. General Jackson espouses that he opposes the dangerous ideologies on the far right and the far left, and yet if he had it his way, we would have dissenters against the government locked up and fined. No doubt, this is the first step to punishing citizens in the manner that they are punished in the tin pot dictatorships in Red China and the Soviet Union. I don’t doubt Mr. Jackson’s good intentions, but what we will see under a Jackson presidency is a radical reincarnation of (not-McCarthy)’s witch hunts. We do not need to return to such a disgraceful time, where American turned on American while the communists sat, watched from across the pond and laughed.”

“American taxpayers may be entranced by Jackson’s promise of tax cuts, yet his preference for Corporate Employment Tax Benefits will force the common American to needlessly funnel billions of dollars annually into uncompetitive corporations who are quite well-off as they currently are. Maximizing corporate profits at the price of the taxpayer has never been the American way. On the other hand, there are policies which must be enacted to assist the families hit hardest by poverty and are terribly disadvantaged in this beautiful country.”

“Whereas Jonathan Jackson will only serve the corrupted interests of corporations and the elite rich, I stand by efforts to enact more sufficient anti-trust legislation to promote vibrant and thriving local markets free of corporate domination. I seek to enact a capital tax on millionaires and even those more wealthy. I call it an “Equity Tax”, and it will prevent the inequitable hoarding of wealth by a shadowy few. Some have opposed this proposal on the basis of constitutionality, and so I want my constituents to know that I am willing to go to Congress with a Constitutional Amendment to ensure that in moments demanding of the advancement of the lower and middle classes, or in moments of crisis and war, we have the capability to raise sufficient funds without sucking the destitute drier. I shall hope to see bipartisan agreement over such a measure, as it is absolutely necessary for our nation to enact necessary reforms while successfully waging war against a stubborn enemy. It was Franklin Roosevelt’s policies which granted us the power to knock the Axis back on its heels. I have doubts that Herbert Hoover would have been able to do the same. The situation in Vietnam calls for the same attention to empower the American people while funding the federal government to provide for ample defense. This is without a doubt our best way forward.”

“An equity tax shall act as a fundraising cornerstone to my efforts to pass a second bill of rights. As President I will finish what Roosevelt started and envisioned: an America where adequate medical treatment is available to those who need it; an America where our elderly may retire in comfort regardless of economic or social class; an America where our youth are well educated to lead our nation to higher innovations of science, technology and idealism. I am asking the great state of Kentucky to support and elect me, Senator Earl Boone, as your next President. Together we shall ensure that America remains the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, forever. God bless you, and goodnight.”

General Jonathan Jackson released a public announcement to the press.

For years, the Republican Party has seen infiltration by crypto-socialist elements that differ little with the most liberal of Democrats. Instead of being a patriotic force, those elements blast America, accuse it of all sorts of sins and want Americans to pay and apologize for their supposed faults. Instead of acting as a check to the expansion of the federal government beyond the functions laid out by our Constitution, they seek to create more government departments, more bureaucratic machineries and impose central planning upon our economy, eroding our hard-earned liberties and moving us closer to the Soviet model. Instead of seeking the creation of new jobs and giving incentives for corporations to hire more workers, they seek to keep Americans unemployed and dependent on government handouts. Instead of upholding the moral values that made America great, they want to erase them in the name of a misguided progress. Those RINOs - Republicans in Name Only, as I like to call them - want to turn the Republican Party into a second Democratic Party.

Unfortunately, parts of the Republican establishment have been infiltrated by those crypto-socialists. Those posh, rich champagne crypto-socialists view with disgust the traditional Republican voters and froth at the mere mention of conservative principles. I am afraid that some of them are so committed in their destructive plans, that they may interfere in the primaries and try to overturn the will of the people. Rest assured, though, that our movement cannot be stopped. Regardless of what the corrupt, establishment RINOs might throw at us, our movement shall prevail.

We shall prevail because we fight for liberty, justice and morality. Our movement seeks to extend liberty, defend the free world from communism and safeguard our moral values. We will not budge. We will not retreat. We cannot be defeated. We shall prevail!

The Jackson Campaign circulated a press release on the candidate's 'Small Business Support Plan', that is meant to supplement the already announced "Tax Reform". The campaign stated that, "this package of reforms was not included in the tax reform announcement, since it contains regulatory measures as well instead of simply tax-oriented ones." They also stated that, "the finalized program of Mr. Jonathan Jackson shall be revealed in the coming weeks, with announcements on each issue being released gradually. So it is prudent for candidates to not be hasty in commenting."

Small Business Support Plan

Supporting Businesses, Creating Jobs

Recognizing that:

*Americans have a right to decide by themselves how to spend their heard-earned money instead of bureaucrats in DC making the choice for them
*Lower tax rates for small businesses allow them to expand their operations and hire more workers, thus creating new opportunities for employment
*Overregulating small businesses leads to increased costs for products, hurting the smallest of businesses that cannot comply with the multitude of federal regulations.

the Jackson campaign is committed to implementing a broad program of supporting small businesses.

Small Business Tax Relief

The Small Business Tax Relief aims to lower the tax burden for the smallest of businesses, allowing them to compete with bigger corporations and remain viable. While the Jackson campaign hails the role of big corporations, gives them incentives to hire more employees and does not demonize them as other socialistic candidates do, it also recognizes that small businesses too need support and tax relief.

1. Small businesses (from thirty employees and below) will pay a reduced corporate tax of 18%.
2. Small businesses in rural areas will pay a reduced 15% corporate tax.

Regulatory Reform

The Jackson campaign recognizes that regulations are needed to protect workers and consumers. However, too many regulations only add up red tape without being beneficial in any way. Those regulations increase costs for small businesses, since big corporations can afford to comply with costly federal regulations while small businesses cannot do so without passing the cost on to consumers and becoming uncompetive.

A Jackson presidency shall end power-grabbing regulatory actions, such as the reach by the Federal Trade Commission for injunctive powers and the ceaseless pressing by the the Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission to dominate consumer decision in the marketplace. While regulations that protect workers and consumers shall remain in place, costly and bureaucratic regulations shall be abolished

For every new regulation being legislated, a regulation must be repealed. This reform will force lawmakers to think hard before creating new, needless regulations and at the same time shall allow the repealing of needless regulations.

Small Businesses Wage Support

Recognizing that small businesses want to pay their employees good wages but often cannot due to the tax burden imposed on them by the federal government, the Jackson campaign seeks to provide tax incentives for small businesses to pay well their workers.

Small businesses (from thirty employees and below) that pay their employees above $2.00 an hour, shall see their corporate tax reduced by 4% (to 14%, or 11% for rural small businesses)

Richard Douglas sat at his desk in his congressional office, on his desk was a pile of newspapers on the happenings of the various presidential candidates. This was supposed to be a quick meeting with his Chief of Staff reviewing points of the President's State of the Union Address, but it had become much more than that. It had become clear to him that there were no good presidential candidates, Lahde had some good points and he would most likely endorse him, if it were not for his stance of the Vietnam War, it was clear to him not Lahde had essentially no chance of winning, unless the war went really bad. Boone too had good economic policies, (following in the footsteps of Franklin Roosevelt a man who Douglas revered) but he was too weak on Civil Rights, and of course Sharp was a segregationist, something Douglas vowed he would not support. He was open to supporting a Republican candidate, but none of them appealed to him. He had openly thrashed Jackson the night previous, due to his corporation supporting tax cuts, and Fraser supported the FREE Act, an act that would abolish the minimum wage, something that he saw as helping poorer citizens. If only there was a way to change some of these candidates' platforms he thought to himself, Lahde's stance on the Vietnam War wasn't something opponents would easily forget, but maybe he could change how Boone approaches Civil Rights. Douglas picked up the phone and called Boone.

Senator Boone squinted on the other end of the line. “Ah, Mr. Douglas. You’re the Representative from Minnesota who is cosponsoring my amendment. Well, as an address to your concerns, I will say that right now the Democratic Party’s most solid geographic electoral voting bloc is the South. You will find no shortage of conservative Democrats down here, Mr. Douglas. Folks like Sharp or... Broussard. What I stand by is the advancement of all peoples whether they be black or white, and regardless of religion or other identities; the advancement of these people through my economic policies. Roosevelt, as you remember, united a rather broad coalition of folks down in the South, by helping the people through the economy. I intend to do the same, holding no prejudices against minorities or the poor. If you give people greater economic freedom and address basic needs such as decent healthcare, a good retirement and social security, social advancement will surely follow. Such a platform is exactly what can mend the gap between your northern Democrats and the crucial blocs in the South. If we cannot keep the South, our election efforts are lost.”

The Fraser Campaign releases the following statement to the press:

"It's a pity when presidential campaigns such as Senator Sharp's, with his ridiculous accusations and fraudulently investigations against the President engage in that in policy-free mudslinging, but it is an even greater disappointment to see it come from the likes of the Jackson campaign. The Jackson campaign, continues to fail to withdraw it's advocacy of their 'corporate employment tax benefits' proposal, which would have the effect of giving federal bureaucrats the power to give big business a tax advantage for in exchange for pulling away productive workers from small businesses, strangling national productivity and small business's access to investment in the process, all while America is in the midst of a war against communism in asia. Instead it has chosen to engage in accusations of crypto-socialism against those who express concern for the plight of the small business owner. They accuse critics of leaning toward the soviet model, all while the Jackson campaign believes that it is the role of the federal government to bribe corporations to put individuals on their payroll regardless of their productivity. The Fraser Campaign believes the role of government is maintaining environment of free markets and free enterprise in which all businesses, big or small, can thrive by their merit, while helping those willing to work to improve themselves out of poverty. The 'corporate employment tax benefits' proposal would create a skewed environment, that disincentives productivity and harms the nation's finances, sowing the ground with the seeds of hyperinflation.

The Fraser campaign welcomes the Jackson campaign to recognize it's mistakes and withdraw it's deeply flawed 'corporate employment tax benefits' proposal and desist from it's poisonous accusations of bad faith and rigging on the part of the Republican Party. Conservative Republicans deserve a proper presentation of their ideas in this intra-party debate about what must be done as we head into the 1960s, clinging to anti-small business proposals that threaten the strength of the American dollar is neither Conservative or Republican."

The Jackson campaign issued to the press a short announcement about Governor Fraser's accusations.

The Jackson campaign has announced a reduction of corporate taxation for small businesses that employ less than thirty employees from the current tax rate of 52% to 18%, a reduction of 34%. Small businesses in rural areas under the Jackson plan shall see a tax reduction to 15%, a reduction of 37%. Small businesses that pay their employees above $2.00 an hour, shall see their corporate tax reduced further by 4%. For comparison, the 'Corporate Employment Tax Benefits' reduces taxation for corporations that hire 1000 or more employees in that fiscal year to 34%.

To make it simple for those lacking in understanding of mathematics, a small business by default shall pay 18% or 15% corporate tax while a big corporation that hires 1000 or more employees that year shall pay a 34% corporate tax. That is a difference of 16% or 19% respectively, in favor of small businesses. With the proposed tax reforms, big corporations are encouraged to create more jobs while small businesses still pay a lower tax by far compared to those corporations.

Yet Mr. Fraser falsely accused General Jonathan Jackson of being against small businesses, while the Governor has done nothing for small businesses and has not attempted to reduce their tax burden. Instead, the Governor wants unemployment to be high in order for Americans to be dependent on government handouts.

It is understandable that he is afraid of the strong movement behind a nationally-recognized war hero who led America to victory in the Pacific War, but such lies are unbecoming of a presidential candidate. We call for him to withdraw his slanderous remarks.

General Jonathan Jackson gave a call from his hotel room to the President upon receiving the telegram. "Hello, this is General Jonathan Jackson. I desire to speak with President Davis."

The White House Secretaries patched him through and recorded the call, for historical purposes,

"Hello? General Jackson? I wasn't expecting a call from you." Henry said as he shushed the other people in the room, playing billiards with him.

I know you don't want to touch the issue, don't want to alienate the party, but the party is divided if you don't the issue, I can't see you winning. Even Jackson seems more liberal on this issue than you. I think if you want to be the candidate of consensus you should follow his lead and favour a national committee on Civil Rights."

"I understand that, but we cannot win with the South alone. I support your economic policies, but we cannot be accused of being too weak on Civil Rights. If you supported a committee on Civil Rights that would have all of the different perspectives of the country working together, to come up a compromise on Civil Rights, you could position yourself as the candidate of consensus, working to find a solution that satisfies all sides. I think that platform could propel you to the nomination and the presidency. I would be prepared to endorse your campaign if you supported this committee."

"I received your telegram and felt the need to talk with you, if only because aside from being the President, you are also an old friend of mine. I myself had no desire to engage in intraparty conflict. You can see that I did not criticize by name Miss Sofia Fraser nor did I attack Governor Bradford, despite their criticism of me, because I desire the unity of the Republican Party. Yet, Governor Fraser, without waiting for the full publication of my campaign platform, attacked me; and he attacked me not policy-wise, but rather by accusations that I want the destruction of small businesses. You've served with me before and during the war. You know that I am not one to let unjust attacks go by. I will defend my character and my campaign from slanderous lies, even if that means causing headlines about intraparty struggles. I also have to stress my worries of liberal entryism into our party. I understand that the Republican Party is meant to be a broad church, but we have people in the party who make FDR look like a conservative."

Jackson paused for a few seconds. "I hope I haven't ranted too much. You also know how much I respect you, as a friend first and foremost."

"Now here's my issue with all of that General. I talked to Senator Stark about the same damn thing. The Liberals in the Democratic Party are flocking to our side, not because they like us, but because they agree with us on many issues. By gaining them, we are gaining the Negro vote, and that vote is going to be very important if this election comes down between you and Boone. Let the Governor talk. Let him whine to reporters as much as he wants, but show that you are the bigger person and refuse to stoop down to the level or releasing press releases every two days to respond."
