Biography: Quentin was born late at night, on his family's farm just outside Hooker, Oklahoma. His father, John Delaney (1890-present), is a cattle rancher and served as County Sheriff from 1930-1938. His mother is Ella Marie Wallace Delaney (1889-present). Growing up, the farm was prosperous, however, Quentin was bored as hell. He dreamed of the glittering lights and beautiful people he saw on rare trips to the nickelodeon in Tulsa, and when he graduated from high school, he immediately gathered every cent he could, packed his bags, and moved out west to Los Angeles, the city of lights. That was in 1929.
The early years in Hollywood were a struggle. Quentin scraped by in bit parts, waited tables, fixed cars, and ran errands. But bit by bit, he came to be noticed. He had supporting roles in several major films, barely even a player in some. His big break came in 1935, when he played Preston Diller in Jezebel, opposite Bette Davis. The pair had met on a smaller film, and Davis had been struck by Quentin's natural talent for acting on camera. She had recommended him to the director of the film, and his life changed forever. From 1938 to 1941 he starred in several acclaimed films: Young Mr. Lincoln, as Abraham Lincoln. The Grapes of Wrath as Tom Joad, which earned him his first Academy Award nomination. In 1941, he won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in The Philadelphia Story, opposite Katharine Hepburn. While in Hollywood, he married fellow actress Molly Beauregard (1914-present), in 1940. The pair have a son, Zachary (1941-present).
Unfortunately, events in 1941 conspired to end his exploding film career forever. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Quentin was one of the first (at least, he felt so) to rush to the enlistment office. He joined the Navy, and for the duration of the war flew a dive bomber from the USS Yorktown.
After returning home from the war in 1945, Quentin went back to Hollywood. However, the empty, glamorous lifestyle of a Hollywood star didn't sit right with him anymore. He'd seen and done too much, and now the world was menaced with the shadow of Stalin. He decided to ditch acting, and run for Congress. His district was represented by an incumbent Democrat, but Quentin had millions of dollars and fame on his side. He ran as a fervent anticommunist, even accusing his opponent of being a Communist on multiple occasions, and narrowly took the seat.

The NFO is extremely popular in Iowa at this time and it would not be a good move, politically speaking, to oppose it.
I think it's pretty clear that they like the NFO, I did mention that the speaker is the daughter of a farmer radical. She's also leans pro-union, partially because she's seen farmers benefit from producers unions.
the issue is more that it's a Michigander coming to Iowa dressed like a farmer trying to tell them to donate their own money to an organization within their state through said person's presidential campaign, as if it couldn't didn't occur to them to support the NFO before Wilson-Carter to showed up.
It's pretty patronizing, it's not really 'getting to know iowans' and it's more of a 'educate these peasants about their own culture' vibe.
Fraser has a very plan for all the appealing to Iowans without promising to hike costs for the rest of the country. it involves focusing on the supply rather than demand side of agriculture.

Yes, slice of life posts are not only allowed, but encouraged. For instance, I gave Henry a mistress which will come into play later on in his story as a person, not only as a president.

In the House, Quentin served on the House Un-American Activities Committee, and heard "Enemy Number One" Gerhard Eisler's confession before Congress. He also served on the Foreign Affairs Committee, and in 1947 was a member of the Herter Committee, which journeyed to Europe to report on the need for U.S. foreign aid. He gave his first address to the House late that year, on the importance of American aid to war-ravaged Europe and Polynesia. "America," he said, "has been left standing after the horrors of war, and it is our sacred responsibility to lift up our brothers across the sea to face the great Russian menace." He was a supporter of Taft-Hartley, and met influential conservative thinker Father John Cronin, author of The Problem of American Communism, later that year.
In 1948, he coauthored the Mundt-Delaney Act, which would require registration of all American Communists, as well as a written statement of the origin of all materials distributed by organizations found to be Communist fronts. The bill passed the House but died in the Senate.
He gained further prominence during the trial of Alger Hiss before the HUAC, as he firmly believed Hiss to be guilty, and his persistence led to the investigation continuing and the discovery of the Pumpkin Papers. In 1948, he cross filed as a Democrat and won both party primaries in his district before comfortably winning reelection.
In 1949, Quentin announced he'd be running against incumbent Democratic Senator Dawson Simonson (not-Sheridan Downey). Simonson, battling both a vicious primary challenger, Diana Hermann Goldsmith (not-Helen Ganaghan Douglas), and liver cancer, dropped out of the primary. With no other Republicans of appreciable interest running, this left Quentin as the de facto nominee.
The campaign was noted for it's extreme dirtiness--Quentin and his supporters distributed a "Pink Sheet", or a record of every time Goldsmith had voted with a New York Congressman widely thought to be a Communist, at her events. With President Hammond uninterested in assisting Goldsmith, her support was constantly wavering, and Quentin won the election soundly.
In the Senate, Quentin was a vocal critic of Hammond's handling of the Korean War, and maintained cordial (but not too close) relations with Max Jordan (not-Joseph McCarthy), believing that Jordan would one day shoot himself in the foot and not wanting to be tied to that mess. He is also directly responsible for the desegregation of the Senate cafeteria--when his black legislative assistant Phoebe Jackson was denied entry, the Senator walked her back down, sat with her at a table, and told anyone who came up to try and eject her that he'd "whip their ass". He has consistently voted in favor of civil rights for minorities and is a member of the NAACP. He has long supported statehood for Alaska and Hawai'i, and disaster relief for Yugoslavia and Indonesia. On the other hand, he has opposed public power, price controls, and benefits for illegal immigrants.
He has also been a critic of President Davis, frequently assailing him for his more moderate policies--"President Davis appeases the liberals too much for a Republican President," he told a crowd in Yorba Linda, "and that doesn't sit well with me. His budget asked for seventy one billion dollars. Seventy one billion. That makes me weak at the knees."
During his time in the Senate, Quentin has worked extensively on legislation targeting corruption and racial discrimination within large labor unions, as well as taking a keen interest in Asian foreign policy--as he says, "Red China is a far more vicious beast than Russia. Both must be destroyed but one sooner than the other."
He was reelected in 1956, despite a multimillion dollar anti-Delaney campaign carried out by labor groups. In 1954, he voted to censure Max Jordan, and helped author the Civil Rights Act of 1957. He also supported the 24th Amendment. He has become known not just for his charm and likeability, but for his ruthless dedication to his principles and utter refusal to compromise them.
As of late, he has reportedly been mulling a Presidential run, believing he has the experience necessary to take over after Pike Davis.
