I did, it was quite heavy. Douglas will be making his way around to Boston some time soon and I think he might want to meet with Brown Jr. there.

The more the merrier he was certainly an interesting character.

There are none. There are only three conservatives in this RP, two of which are dixiecrats. The rest are just moderates and liberals.

Probably. Will first write a speech, then read the last couple of posts about the meeting. :)

Did you know: if Nixon had won the South in 1960, he would've won the election.

yeah, if Nixon got ~57% of the vote, he'd have won. as that's the popular vote swing it'd have taken to win the south.

the important thing was that Kennedy was only 34 electoral votes above 269 and of the states that were within a 1% swing, none of the were in the south and together would have been enough to get to 284.

True, but regardless of that fact...It's just there. That's all I'm saying, really. ;)

I'll say that you can lose every thing in the south still beat 269 pretty comfortably while doing poorly in the great plains states.

Very true, yeah. I just mentioned that because of the timing...

Speaking of the Presidency, I'm now wondering if Turner should enter the race. He'll take a look at the next round of polling.

Meanwhile Jackson will attempt to strike a middle position on civil rights that will hopefully attract enough (moderate) Southerner conservatives without alienating Northern moderates. He is promising to the Southerners that he will not upset too much the status quo and the Northerners that he will force some changes.

Tom Fraser is really just going to spend the rest of the campaign pointing out that since Jackson supports allowing the 14th and 15th amendment to be violated out of political convenience there's no reason to believe he wouldn't support allowing any part of the constitution to be violated for political convenience and that he probably wants to be a military dictator.

IC I do not think that accusing a decorated war hero who is widely admired by most Americans is a bright idea. OOC, spoiler alert, you are not really wrong. Getting Jackson elected is my number 1 plan for this RP, number 2 is to slowly but steadily erode democratic norms in the first term (think Erdogan or Putin in RL), so that in second term I can move to plan number 3; the dictatorship. 8)

[EDIT: Assuming RP lasts that long - which is unlikely but anyway, - plan number 4 is to start World War III for Global Domination   ]

it is fine and his intentions are transparent. I hope that you don't think saying it in OOC makes it count as off limits.

Good luck proving it. As I've said, accusing a a popular war hero without some pretty good evidence (and OOC chatting doesn't count as such) isn't going to be exactly a vote winner. :)

Turner/Jackson: Death to Democracy 1960

Frankly if it's Turner vs Jackson and I was a voter in this timeline I would probably cry

Also yes this is Turner announcing his bid

It's probably going to be Jackson as Republican candidate VS Ladhe or Boone as Democratic candidate VS Turner as third party candidate (?). In which case the Democratic vote splitting means Jackson becomes the President. :)
