Wait what? Bloody Sunday in this timeline is happening on the normal Bloody Sunday, and for sure isn't happening in Louisiana. You worry about the march, and we mods will worry about the....local's reactions. :)

Biography:
Howard W. Gayle was born on November 2, 1899 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Heidi and Fred Gayle. At the time of Howard's birth, his mother was a restaurant waitress and his father was an insurance agent. Growing up, Howard showed an interest in reading, something you'd find him doing often when he wasn't helping around the house. He grew up living a pretty normal life until 1914, when war broke out in Europe. When the US joined the war, Howard’s father proudly joined the Army, and met his untimely end in the Benelux.

After the war and the death of his father, Howard struggled with depression, as he and his father were close. He moved to Salt Lake City looking for a job opportunity, and he eventually found one with a local law firm as a legal assistant. He met his future wife, Dorothy Horton, in 1922, and they were married in 1924. After his first son, Franklin, was born in 1925, Howard began to spend more time at home, and began to plan to start his own law firm. Those plans were derailed after the stock market crashed in 1929, however, and after Dorothy lost her job, the Gayle family was suddenly reliant on the government welfare programs of the time. From 1930-1933, the Gayle family was hardly scraping by, but Dorothy was able to find a new job, as well as Howard.

As the Great Depression dragged on, Howard took an interest in politics, paying very close attention to the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt. After his election, Howard supported the New Deal as a way to lift Americans out of poverty, such as his own family, though criticized areas he felt were unnecessary. In 1934, he unsuccessfully ran to represent Utah's 2nd District in the House of Representatives. In 1936, he ran for the Utah State House, a more conservative position for someone like him just getting started in politics, successfully winning his seat. While in the state house, he pushed legislation to create jobs, lower taxes, and reduce state spending, objectives he’d also push fo in the US House of Representatives. After a four year term, Howard decided to run for Utah’s 2nd District again, figuring that with more experience on his plate, and with thee success of his agenda to show for it, he’d be more likely to win this time. His theory proved correct, as he successfully won that election.

While serving in the House, war broke out in the Pacific, and he supported the fight against Japan, as well as with Germany. Towards the end of Howard’s term, a close friend gave him the idea of running for Utah Governor, a proposition he at first objected to, but after careful consideration, he decided to go along with it. As such, he ran for governor of Utah in 1944, eventually winning the election. As governor, he continued to focus on the prosperity of the economy and the creation of jobs, as well as welcoming soldiers back home. Then, towards the 1952 presidential election, he heard that Henry “Pike” Davis was running. He had liked Davis, and at the time he began to long for a higher office, so he began to negotiate behind closed doors with Davis to be his Vice President, should he earn the nomination. Negotiations grew fiercer as the primary approached, and after Davis won and earned the nomination, he added Howard to the ticket.

As the 1952 election went on, he campaigned fiercely for Davis, in one speech calling him “the very definition of American grit and determination”. He and Davis eventually won the election in a landslide, and during their inauguration, Howard said “America made its best decision since the one it made on July 4, 1776”. He carried out his duties as Vice President throughout the term, bringing the final decision on a number of legislative bills that had been tied in voting. Once re-election year came, he fiercely campaigned for him and Davis once again, stating in one campaign speech: “This administration has brought prosperity to America. Keep that prosperity going.”. After re-election was won, he stated in their inauguration “America’s prosperity will now carry on, as decided by the American people”. He continued his duties as Vice President, and now, with election year coming up, he has started to consider running for the Republican nomination, but will not without the blessing of President Davis.

He's too strong on Civil Rights and he's a bit too old and Davis' main message was repealling unnecessary parts of the New Deal package.

Posted the backdated speech. In the next few days will be posting two more speeches. :)

Also, since Fraser is calling Jackson all sorts of names and accusing him of being an enemy of the constitution, Jackson is no longer holding back. Of course, Jackson isn't mentioning a lot Fraser since he does not want to give much spotlight to his political enemies and instead to focus on his own agenda, but a few attacks are OK. 8)

Biography:

Other Info:
Married with 2 kids and 2 grandchildren; considering a Presidential bid, but won't run without Davis' blessing

I'm planning on having Douglas start a newsletter called Your Future that will be distributed on college campuses explaining the policies proposed by both the Republican and Democratic parties while subtly portraying Democratic policies in a better light than Republican policies. This was the concept that Douglas was speaking to Lahde about a while earlier.

So Utah's Second District had a Dem Rep who won from 1933-1947, and the Gov. of Utah was a Democrat, winning the election by small margins, but either way, you'll need to go more in-depth as to how he managed to defeat two Dem incumbents, so go more into his policies, and those elections.
