I encourage all Utahans, put your differences aside, pray for the family of Marlon Ward, pray for those who are being injured in various riots and protests, and pray that there is a swift and total end to the violence spreading across our nation. Put your trust in God, he will guide us through these tough times. I fully support our president, our vice-president, and the Governor of Utah to keep us safe in these times.

This rioting is unbelievable and must cease immediately, Reverend Martin Luther King supported NON-VIOLENCE, by becoming violent, hurting your fellow man, and by burning his business, you are proving yourself to be a disgrace to the Civil Rights Movement of which I grew to support in the 50s and 60s. Law and Order are what we need, not lawlessness and disorder.

Hugo sat in his mayoral office, looking out the window at a crowd of protesters that had formed. Chants of “BLACK LIVES MATTER” were audible from inside, and Hugo sighed. He wished he could do more to help alleviate the tension, the sorrow, there anger, the pain. He empathized with them, shared their feelings. He knew that they were there to get a message across- that far too many have been lost to police brutality. He then decided he would go out to show his support.
He stood, went out of his office, and made his way outside. When he neared the entrance, a security guard standing there, and he asked “Mayor Fitzgerald, what are you doing down here?”, to which Hugo replied: “I’m going outside.”

“Outside? With that going on?”

“Yes. Now please let me outside.”

The security guard complied, opening the door for him. Hugo then walked out, seeing the protesters and the line of police keeping them from getting near the entrance. Both sides noticed Hugo exiting the building, and within a few seconds, quite a few eyes form the crowd laid their gazes on him. When he had a considerable amount of attention, he began to speak.

“People, I understand why you have gathered here. Why you are angry, sad, mournful, and frustrated: because far to many unarmed civilians that are disproportionately Black have been lost to police brutality. I stand with all of you in your calls for change, which has been needed in America for as long as I can remember. I want for you to no that the continued problem of systemic racism, as long as I am your mayor, will not be tolerated here in Pasadena. I will make it a point to set a standard for America here in Pasadena. On my watch, police brutality will not continue here, and I sincerely hope it will not continue elsewhere. You all call for change, and for reform, and I echo these calls in the strongest terms. I will help bring that change, and provide the awareness needed for change to come. In the meantime,it would be my utmost honor to join you fine people in peacefully spreading awareness.”

The crowd of protesters, some in the crowd recording his speech, applauded once he concluded, and Hugo made his way through the wall of police guarding city hall and went into the crowd, attempting to make his way through the front. As a sign of respect, many moved out of his way, and once he made it, he and others led the crowd down the street and around the block, marching in solidarity.

Breaking News: Protestors tear gassed in downtown Portland, Oregon following light clashes with police

"Oh my god. Martin Spellman!" yelled Hypolite as he sat on his sisters recliner and began to pray, "Dear lord, protect that man, Martin Spellman, whilst he performs his civic duty to peacefully protest." After saying a quick prayer, he called Angelle who was still home in Louisiana.

"Dear, if you need to go to Lafayette or Abbeville, have my brother go with you. Don't go anywhere alone, alright?" He said frantic,

"I know, Hypolite. I been reading the news, me too. I'll be alright dear, now let me off of this phone, I'm trying to play candy crush." she replied,

"Alright, you call me if you want me home." Hypolite said, with a frown,

"No, you stay over there. Protect yourself though, I hear Georgia'll probably hit the deck when shit hits the fan." Angelle replied,

"I'll be alright. I was a boy-scout." Hypolite said with a laugh before hanging up.

Marlon Ward Protests
Portland, Oregon
May 30th, 2020

Marty and Lucy had maintained themselves close to the front but not directly facing police. They wanted to avoid too much confrontation, especially given the turbulent situation. They had set their backpacks down for a few moments, distributing a few bottles of water when screams ran through the air. Police had begun pushing through the line of protesters, knocking some down as suddenly items began to be thrown. Marty quickly shouted to the few friends he had around him, "Let's move back, c'mon, Lucy, c'mon!"

But in the few minutes it took to gather their items and start heading back, canisters launched. Tear gas filled the street as police continued pushing through the crowd. Marty's eyes were watering and he ducked down, guiding Lucy as they held hands. But they barely crossed the second street when a canister hit Lucy in the back of the head. Almost immediately, the special needs teacher collapsed, a bit of blood already spilling onto the ground. In an instant, the actor assessed the situation and screamed. "LUCY!" he shouted, rushing to her aid as police continued advancing....

May 30

Congressman Crawford Clay
Clay had been recuperating from his fourth— or was it fifth? it all seemed to blur together in his mind— week of canvassing with some quiet alone time off the campaign trail. He had tried to keep his phone silenced, but that ambition quickly proved vain, and before long he was scrolling through various news feeds, staying updated on the Marlon Ward situation. This looks bad, he texted his campaign manager. Maybe cancel our plans for the next two weeks, and see if you can schedule some events in support of the police. Then, he texted his wife: Stay safe. I'll try to visit soon.
Governor Wesley "Jack" Bucknell
The governor's aides had never seen the old man more alive. Cold blue eyes blazing, he had called the South Carolina national guard into state service, stationing units in Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Columbia, Florence, and Spartanburg to assist local police. He issued private memos to the police commissioners in every major city, ordering them to closely monitor all protests and dispel any that turned violent, by any means necessary. Finally, Bucknell issued a public statement from the governor's office, pledging a "commitment to maintaining social order" and a "zero-tolerance policy for violence and destruction". South Carolina was his backyard, and he would defend it like a bulldog.
Senator Dwight "Buster" Bunker
Buster booked a direct flight to San Francisco for himself and his husband. Upon arriving, the duo immediately began to assist in the organization of peaceful demonstrations in their home city. Bunker mobilized his vast connections in the activist scene, as well as the two nonprofit organizations he still headed, to supply protestors with signs, eco-friendly water bottles, and bullhorns. After a few hours of organizing, the Senator took to the streets himself, leading a march in UN Plaza and live-streaming the event all the while.
"Iron Don" Pauer
Don kept a close eye on the major protests that were flaring up around the country, cherry-picking riots, looting, and violence and stuffing it into the script he was preparing for his next broadcast.

I'm currently in Georgia myself, but my family is a bit worried and shaken up at this time, so I won't be going to that protest, and I frankly think you shouldn't either. Things are dangerous out there, and you've got a price on your head, for lack of a better term. Stay safe, take care, and god bless.

I encourage Louisianans to protest for whatever they believe in, as your right to assemble. However, violence is unnecessary, and should NOT be tolerated. We are Louisiana, We are not Kansas, we are not Oregon, and we are not Texas. Governor Anne Murphy Caldwell
Governor's Mansion, Olympia, Washington
May 30, 2020

Seeing the news of developing protests, Anne decided to leave her residence to meet with protesters. Initially shaking hands and talking through the fence, she went against the wishes of her security detail and went into the crowd accompanied by her husband and a tiny police escort. Leaving the premises of her residence through a side gate, the two Caldwells carried packs of bottled water to hand to protesters in need of some good old fashioned hydration. Speaking to them in a similar fashion to that of a few minutes before, she listened intently, expressing her wish to address the wishes of the protestors. It wouldn't be until a couple of minutes later when one of the accompanying officers informed the Governor, now being invited to address the crowd, about the developing situation in Seattle. Finally capitulating to the demands of the protesters Anne climbed up a trashcan and, awkwardly standing on it, began to speak into a loud speaker.

"First of all, thank you for having me and thank you for being here. It is so important to speak up about what happened in Wichita and so many places before it and to deliver this short, yet incredibly powerful and deeply needed message - Black Lives Matter.

For far too long has the issue of the way we as a nation approach policing been ignored. The idea of justice says that no one is above the law. That idea needs to be carried into every corner of America, be heard by every person in power. This is what you are advocating for and I am proud to be a part of this movement.

I can't speak for every congressman or woman, senator and governor, nor should I. At a time like this everyone should take a clear stand. Let those who champion justice distinguish themselves from those who favor order by all means, at any cost. Speaking as one politician, I can say this - I will do everything in my power to further advance the cause we are fighting for, racial justice. That's what I've been trying to do in the past and that's what I will be doing till the end.

If there is one request I wish to make, and I know I'm not really in a position to be making requests but, if I might I ask you to look around... Look around at the people you're standing with. Despite what many would want to say, this right here is a peaceful protest. Don't give anyone the excuse to say otherwise. Don't give FOX News or whoever else an excuse to call this event an extremist one, because it isn't. And my plea goes out to other parts of Washington as well. The Evergreen State is a place for justice and in turn for peace. One cannot exist without the other."

Press Conference, Governor’s Mansion, Raleigh, North Carolina
Image

Governor Rowan came out to a last minute press conference on the escalating protests.

“Good evening,” she said somberly.

“I will keep things brief. This state has seen a series of peaceful protests which are beginning to escalate into riots in places like Charlotte. This is unfortunate, and I’m sure is caused by a few rotten apples, perhaps from out of state, who have hijacked a night of mourning and turned it increasingly into a night of violence. The North Carolina National Guard was activated earlier today, and this evening will be sent into our state’s largest cities, particularly Charlotte, with permission to use non-lethal force to maintain order where local police cannot. Moreover, a statewide curfew will be in effect as of midnight tonight, so I would urge peaceful protestors to return home under penalty of arrest and fine. It is unfortunate that we needed to resort to such measures, but violence will not be tolerated in the State of North Carolina. I will be on standby as the situation develops.”

Rowan then turned control over to her press secretary as she was whisked back to the situation room.

Statement by Governor Marshall regarding the ongoing situation in Wichita

The Governor is monitoring recent developments within the state of Kansas over the course of tonight notably the overwhelming of the Police and National Guard at Wichita Police Station, with growing concern regarding the potential risk to life posed by any further deterioration in the present situation. Consequently, the Governor has issued the following:

1: The state of emergency declared yesterday is increased from 14 days to 21 days.

2: A curfew within the cities of Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita between the hours of 19:00 and 07:00 is to take effect immediately. Citizens with the exception of those in essential occupations, notably law enforcement, National Guard and medical staff, will be viable to arrest should they be found violating this curfew.
