I share your disappointment that the previous relief bill was pared back so heavily by Leader Warrick and the White House, and few of us in the Democrats are surprised that the previous relief effort failed to meet the moment. Bob Warrick talked the talk about abandoning economic conservatism, but refused to walk the walk.

Democrats are imminently going to be launching a new effort to get relief through Congress, particularly substantial individual stimulus, and you can expect it to be past the House well before the end of next week.

Hello! A bipartisan bill (the Vohoffsky-Atang bill) to legalize marijuana did pass both the House and Senate in this Congress, but unfortunately, it was pocket vetoed by President Wolf during the summer recess of 2019.

It is very likely that we will proceed with a fresh push to end the disastrous War on Drugs in the next Congress, hopefully with a Democrat as President.

Governor Chambers was a bit depressed and angry. His crowning achievement, balancing Nebraska’s budget, was history. His goal of trying to end the trade war, also gone. There was no way anyone in Washington would listen to reconciliation. The Representative from the state to the North likely represented the thought process in most Republican circles: protectionism and trade wars. There were so many people to blame, so many people who wronged him, it seemed like the entire world was aligned against him. Despite this, he attempted to pass one piece of important legislation: The Second Amendment sanctuary laws. That would give him plenty of political capital and mark him as a true Republican. Chambers worked on trying to convince moderate Republicans that the law was fully within Nebraska’s rights, that if California could refuse to enforce immigration law, then Nebraska certainly could refuse to enforce unconstitutional gun bans. Chambers wanted the law worded in a way that it would declare that Nebraska would not enforce any bans on a specific class of weapons that did not exist before January 1st, 2020. He also wanted the law worded to refuse to enforce bans on any size of magazine and refusing to enforce laws requiring trigger locks. The Governor hoped to have the bill signed very soon. It would give him substantial capital with the national Republican Party.

I own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. What are you’re plans for foreign policy in the coming months?

Areas where the Congress acts in particular on foreign policy are limited, however we're eager to move forward with taking sanctions action against Myanmar for the Rohingya genocide, and to finalize bills that were drafted in response to the ongoing crackdown in Hong Kong. Democrats believe the United States must continue to lead and set the example on the world stage.
