You're overreacting and I'm actually quite upset that you're ascribing malice to a discourse where there is none. People are only pointing out things to try to protect him from the inevitable backlash he'll receive IC. It's his decision at the end of the day, but he has a right to be able to make that decision fully informed of where others stand.

Players and their chars may do anything within the confines of this RP that is considered realistic and logical. Madrin hits both so of course he is free to do anything with Santiago.

However, the advice and opinions of other players is equally welcome, and understanding the consequences of actions matters. In this RP and timeline, the Democratic Nominee for President has a get-tougher-on-Cuba mantra, there is an active effort by Florida Dems to push back against imagery of softness on Cuba. Santiago's actions would counteract much of that, and provided Madrin understands that there would be consequences for Santiago and FL Dems from this, nobody will get in his way.

No, most Cuban-Americans either fled Cuba or have parents/grandparents who fled Cuba. They're opposed to the Castro regime and everything that followed.

First of all, don't make generalizations about a group I'm almost 100% you're not a part of.

Second, you two don't understand something. Of course they're against the Castro regime. But they have family in Cuba, and they can't visit them. How would you like it if your family lived in another country, literally less than 100 miles from your country, but you can't visit them? That's the reality for my family and the families of hundreds of Cuban-Americans in America. The embargo hasn't worked. Other countries just sell their products to Cuba, and the US economy is stuck losing 4 billion a year with no positive benefits. Castros are still in power. Cuba still exists. Republicans, Democrats, Cubans, everyone wants Castro to be gone but this isn't working. A lot of people, including well-educated people who study this thing for a living and know more about this topic than you or me, think that a regime would come faster with looser trade restrictions.

Hillary Clinton publicly shared the view that the embargo helps the Castros, noting that "It is my personal belief that the Castros do not want to see an end to the embargo and do no want to see normalization with the United States." In case you don't get that, that is Hillary Clinton and Reagan's Secretary of State both against the same thing. Both Secretaries of State. Both educated in foreign affairs. Both with different beliefs and ideologies. Both agreeing on something. As does most of the US.

ANNOUNCEMENT/STATEMENT

I love this RP. I am incredibly proud of where it is it, its consistent level of quality and its ability to survive over the years, so thank you to everyone who has been a part of that. I just want to take a moment and say that revisiting the events surrounding the death of George Floyd and the resulting protests and destruction, the controversy, was always going to be painful. I'm from Baltimore, I was in the city during the Freddie Gray riot and I take this deadly serious and we as admins knew from the start that this would be a difficult event to handle.

That being said the actions of Bernard Porter at extreme, insane, and borderline unrealistic from my point of view. I am not advocating for a retcon or chastising Emazia for this, mainly stating that this has made a chaotic and complicated situation only more chaotic and complicated. One of the reasons we try and mirror irl events is so we can better model public reaction and the effects for realism and fairness. Porter's actions, how they progress and end.... Its something very difficult to really get a read on.

I fully expect a lot of controversy and fighting over public perception and character actions, and I fully expect anger at the admins and players over rulings and decisions. This is going to be a difficult period because it will cover what is likely the most insane event our RP has experienced from its inception. I ask that everyone try and treat one another with a bit more respect, grace and understanding in this time. I am not pointing fingers, this is not in reference to a specific incident or post... everyone can stand to be a bit nicer, myself included. Do not let in character actions harm ooc relationships. We are in many ways flying blind for a bit.
