Back in 2016 there were plenty of politicians who endorsed Sanders and then endorsed Clinton once she won the nomination, people still think of those people as Berniecrats

You're allowed to label Clay however you like, however it's somewhat disingenuous to label him a Porterite, which would put him in the same league as people like Feyrer and Burgun. Disingenuity is the name of the game, I suppose.
Regardless, Clay is clearly taking steps to divorce himself from Porter.

- Respected community leader - because of his charity and pastoral work, he is respected by the local community, especially by the African-American churchgoers
- Noted intellectual - respected in some smaller academic circles, has given a lecture or two at a university in the past
- Ties to radical groups - once belonged to a radical black liberation group, has since become more moderate,
- Seen as "too pacifist" - after speaking out in the past against looting in the aftermath of protests against police brutality has been called "too pacifist" or "too passive" by some activists
- Cleric - while he is preaching tolerance and unity, he often bases his speeches and lectures in Christian teachings, which may be less appealing to agnostics, atheists and members of other religions
- Ascetic - while Bennett receives and accepts charitable donations, they are all directed towards helping those in need rather than Bennett himself. While admired by some, his asceticism can go too far. For example, after a pew in his church had broken, he refused to replace it. The situation eventually became so frustrating to the churchgoers that they funded a new one themselves - Bennett accepted it, as it would be "too complicated" to meaningfully donate the item to charity.
Biography: Bennett (born 1979) is an American American Baptist minister and activist advocating for voting rights and the uplifting of the poor. Bennett is a senior pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, a church located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas affiliated with the Progressive National Baptist Convention and American Baptist Churches USA.
Born to a Baptist minister Gabriel Abel Bennett Sr. and Henrietta Mary Bennett (nee Martin) in Montgomery, Alabama. His father used to be a military chaplain, serving during the Vietnam War, before retiring and eventually becoming a senior pastor at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. Bennett was guided towards religious service from his youth, participating in the church choir among other activities. Graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, he went on to graduate the Morehouse College with a BA in Psychology. After graduating the George Washington University with a Master of Divinity, Bennett remained in Washington, D.C. as an assistant pastor at Douglas Memorial Community Church.
Bennett would remain at the Douglas Memorial Community Church until 2012, becoming acquaintances with a number of theologians and pastors, including [not-Joseph C. Hough Jr.] whose christian democratic socialist views had an impact on Bennett's own political ideology. Bennett would first hear of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas "on accident", reading a niche article in a major national publication. In it, the author described a sickly, impoverished elderly Black pastor whose church was in deep need of renovation. Intrigued, he made his first journey to Arkansas in June of the same year, becoming acquainted with Reverend Browman. There, he would also first meet Marion Elderman, the pastor's niece three years junior to Bennett. The two would begin a relationship in 2013 and married in 2015.
Bennett officially departed Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 - day after the second inauguration of President Rashid Baharia, which he watched in person - arriving in Pine Bluff late at night the same day to take on the role of a senior pastor at the Shiloh Baptist Church, eventually becoming co-pastor in early 2014. During his first year at Shiloh, Bennett held a strongly ascetic stance and while he helped clean the church and renovate the stairs leading into the church, he refused any offers for extra funds for a general renovation. Gabriel Bennet became the only pastor at the Shiloh Baptist Church on March 14, 2014 after the death of Reverend Browman, whose last words ended with "...and make this place your home, damn it!". Interpreting the pastor's words as a call to action, Bennett finally agreed to accept funds for the renovation of the church and spent countless hours helping replace the floor boards, install new tiles on the roof and repain the walls.
With the help of church members, Bennett built a wooden small structure adjacent to the church in 2015 that served as a soup kitchen. It was shut down after three months of operation, to much controversy, with local authorities citing multiple building code violations. The whole ordeal raised his profile among in the local community and helped him organize a food program for impoverished and homeless citizens with the help of a group of local restaurant and shop owners.
During his time as a preacher Bennett has developed an allegorical interpretation of the Bible, he doesn't see the holy text in a literal manner - to Bennett it is a set of principles conveyed through stories told by God to man. His theory, in Bennett's understanding, is further reinforced by the figure of Christ who, accepted by Bennett as a real and historical figure, has used parables on multiple occasions to convey the teachings of God to the people on Earth.
A Baptist, Bennett believes in adult baptisms, seeing them as more sincere and therefore "of higher moral value". While accepting of young people in his church, even encouraging them to attend his congregation (albeit without their parents), he chooses not to baptize people aged under 16. In his view, a strong relationship with God is built on sincere belief and "healthy interactions".
Bennett's teachings are considered progressive. He is an outspoken supporter of helping the poor, having criticized the government for their "borderline blasphemous" lack of care for the poor. Bennett is a supporter of LGBT rights, a position he had to arrive at through "deep contemplation and rationalization" of his beliefs. He has performed same-sex marriages since the historic 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision. His wife is an accountant, helping her husband take care of his congregation's finances - publishing comprehensive financial reports every year on the church website to avoid accusations of fraud or misuse of funds. He is a supporter of ecumenism.
Criticisms
Despite being a relatively low-profile figure, Reverend Bennett has received criticism from various groups, both left and right-wing.
In 2014 during the protests in Ferguson, Missouri Bennett spoke out against instances of violence and intentional property damage. Citing the need for calm he called on the participants of the riots to refrain from violence that "had already brought on much tragedy". He was criticized by some activists for his alleged ignorance and lack of understanding of the anger many in Ferguson felt. In response Bennett said that it was not his intention to "cause offense", however he restated his opposition to violence and property damage.
In a 2016 segment on his bi-monthly group prayer sessions against police violence and systemic racism, FOX News used Bennett as an example of "paranoia present among far-left thought leaders", using Gabriel's past as a member of a black nationalist group to paint him as a radical. In a local newspaper interview Bennett called his portrayal by the network as "disgusting" and "purposely misleading".
