He made an ad with the same song. Quite ironic.
Capilean News (Updated 16 November)
Where is the horse gone? Where the warrior?
Where is the treasure-giver? Where are the seats at the feast?
Where are the revels in the hall?
Alas for the bright cup! Alas for the mailed warrior!
Alas for the splendour of the prince!
How that time has passed away, dark under the cover of night, as if it never were.

Love seeing Murphy act like he's different compared to his cancelled reality version as if he didn't bring a mobster to the meeting.

Probably only if Warrick, Volker, Burkhalter, Tawney, Wolf, or Richardson asked him too. Colbert does not think Gaspard belongs in the Senate. He might even endorse the Democrat if he were pro-life.

Well...Colbert is a fool. People call him a RINO now, HA, wait till he endorses a Democrat. Anyway, Gaspard was in the senate a long time before Colbert, and Hypolite is willing to meet with Colbert to hash things out. Can they meet?

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Puerto

Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 72 (Born 1948)
Character Height: 143cms
Character Weight: 78kg
Character Position/Role/Job: Attorney General of North Carolina (2017-Current), North Carolina Senate Minority Leader (2015-2017), North Carolina Senate Minority Whip (2013-2015), State Senator for North Carolina's 20th District (2009-2017), Democratic candidate for North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District (2006).
Appearance:
Image

Character State of Origin: North Carolina
Character State of Residence: North Carolina
Character Party Affiliation: Democratic Party
Main Strengths: State-wide political connections, moderate African-American appeal, bipartisan and good fundraiser.
Main Weaknesses: Unenthusiastic and uninspiring, silver-spoon origins story, carpet-bagger (and related scandals), coziness with Republicans in North Carolina.

Biography: Nadine Marchant was born 1948 in Winston-Salem to her parents Gregory and Anna Marchant. The Marchant families history dates back to the mid 19th century, when German settlers arrived in America. Their family settled in what was then Salem and dug in their roots ever since. Her mother, Anna, was the daughter of wealthy industrialist, so never had to work a bone in her life. Her father was an attorney, who operated his own law firm in Salem. Nadine received a well-to-do childhood and entered charter school, as their family could easily afford for Nadine and her two other sisters to attend.

Gregory was a civil rights attorney, acting on behalf African-American clients during and throughout the Civil Rights Movement. Inspired by the work of her father, after finishing her basic education, Nadine went on to Stanford University to study Law in 1966. Although, by this stage the Civil Rights Movement was coming to a close, she too wanted to follow in the footsteps of her father. Gregory had established a good name for himself among the Black population in Winston-Salem, as well as across the state of North Carolina. He earned a reputation of being liberal, yet incredibly professional as to not disturb the sensibilities of the white establishment.

After returning to North Carolina with her Law Degree, Nadine found work in her fathers law firm, often tasked with the menial paperwork and reception-keeping duties. Two years later, in 1972, Nadine met a young man called Daniel McMahon while working for her father. During their dating period, she began to build up through the ranks of her fathers law firm, beginning to take on her own cases. With a few earlier (but minor) victories, this built up her confidence in the field of law. In 1974, her father did something unexpected. Gregory Marchant ran for North Carolina's 5th Congressional District and won. He and his family had a strong background in the local area, that being Winston-Salem, and he won overwhelming among African-American voters.

It was when her father was in Congress that Nadine assumed the leadership of his law firm. Though, still young, and only five years out of law school, the position was largely ceremonial. That same year, she married Daniel McMahon and gave birth to her first child, to which she named Michael Gregory McMahon. Nadine took on Daniel's last name. After her short period in a management position, she was forced to retire to look after her child, as most women did in that period. Despite being absent from the company, she retained an advisory role to the law firm and often helped in building their cases where she could.

Her father built a strong civil rights voting and bill-writing record and was regularly re-election to the 5th Congressional District. A year after having her first child, Nadine had another to Daniel McMahon. She gave birth to Christine Deloris McMahon in 1976. In 1977, Daniel began working for Nadine's father in his Congressional Office in Washington D.C. During this time, and unbeknownst to Nadine or her family, Daniel was cheating on her for an intern working on the Hill.

In 1980, Nadine returned to the workforce. Due to her connections within Washington D.C., through both her husband and father, she secured a job with the National Organisation of Women, later called Legal Momentum, that focused on women's-based lobbying and legal defense fund. She was often used as the face of the organisation, and was appearing on local and national television on behalf of the organisation as its spokeswoman. The family moved to a large house in Morehead City, across the other side of the state, now with both incomes of Daniel and Nadine supporting them. At the same time, they bought multiple other investment properties in the state of North Carolina and Virginia.

It was until 1982 that Nadine discovered that her husband was cheating on her. Rumour was adrift in Washington D.C., and her father reportedly told her about what was happening. Almost immediately, she filed for divorce. She reverted back to Nadine Marchant, had custody over the children and received an promotion at the NOW Legal Fund. The houses were split evenly, though, Nadine kept the property in Morehead City where she could continue to live and work from. Despite the emotional turbulents, things could not have been better for her.

It wasn't long until she met a new man, Erwin Smith, while helping her father in his 1983 re-election campaign. Erwin had been hired as an internal pollster for the campaign, doing contract work. Erwin worked for Black and White Polling, a polling and political consultancy company based in Raleigh, North Carolina, but had offices in Washington D.C. After a year of dating, Erwin proposed to Nadine in 1984 and they got married. Instead of taking his last name, as she did with her previous husband, Nadine took the hyphenated name of Marchant-Smith. It was two years later in 1986 when she had her third child, Kristof Marchant-Smith, first child to Erwin.

In 1991, founded her own law firm in the eastern region of North Carolina. Similarly named to the polling company that her husband still worked for, it was named Black and White Law. She ran this business with a great level of success, hiring a large staff and maintaining a strong record in law circles, both in the state and outside. In 1995, when her father retired from politics after two decades in politics, he urged her to take up his mantle in the political scene. Despite being interested in politics, she declined, instead focusing on her budding law company and her family.

This apathy for running for political office was not permanent, however. With the 2006 Midterm elections approaching, Nadine thought it wise to join the political fray, with whatever backing her last name held still within the North Carolina political climate. In 2005, she retired from her position as CEO of Black and White Law, and plotted a run for North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District. The district was her home, but it was overwhelmingly Republican and she knew that the election would be difficult, if not impossible to win. Still, Nadine ran a high-profile campaign that attracted a lot of local media and some national media, as the daughter of a famous civil rights lawyers and congress people. She lost decisively, 35% to the Republican candidates 65%.

Her failed run did not dampen her desire for politics, however. Her splash into politics had made an impact and when state elections rolled around in North Carolina in 2008, many party insiders were pushing her to run for the vacant 20th Senate District in the North Carolina State Senate. Nadine, though popular among Democrats, did not live in the District. After a visit from a State Assemblyman, however, she was convinced to run for the seat. She easily won the primary, with little to no challenge and cruised to an overwhelming victory of 70% in the solid Democratic District. Following her victory, she promised to move to the District amid media scrutiny for her carpet-bagging. After a year of being elected to the State Senate, local media inquired deeper into whether she had actually moved to the District yet. They discovered that Nadine still lived in Morehead City. With the media blowing up how she lied about moving, their family bought a property in the area and she lived there on a part-time basis.

Her initial foray into politics proved that she was a very collaborative and bipartisan legislator. During her first term in office, she secured additional funding for domestic violence charities in her District and was at the forefront of the debate to raise the salaries of school teachers. When 2012 came around, Nadine was re-elected without a hitch. This was the same year that Nathaniel Richardson was elected Governor of the state. The Democratic Caucus in the State Senate was impressed with her success during her first, and with the help of her insider political connections, was nominated as the Minority Whip in the Senate. There, she would earn a reputation of being a fierce, yet fair Whip. It was her work as Whip that was able to flip many more left-leaning State Senators to support Nate Richardson's tax cuts and CCC “Carolina’s Choice Care”, all measures that Nadine supported.

In 2014, the former Minority Leader in the Senate announced that he would retire. Nadine ran for the position as the Democratic Minority Leader in the North Carolina State Senate. Almost unanimously, she won the position, with no opposition within the Caucus. It did, however, anger many grass-roots organizers who were demanding for a more left-leaning Minority Leader. She earned a reputation, even among Republicans, as being welcoming to negotiate with. While Minority Leader, she was able to negotiate well with Governor Richardson, though opposing his efforts to strip funding from public education tooth and nail. Nadine stringently opposed the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act, which prevent many LGBTQ people from filing discrimination law suits. Following its passage through the State Senate by the Republican Majority, she lobbied heavily for Nathaniel Richardson to veto the Bill once it reached his desk. Still to this day she retains a cordial relationship with the man.

She couldn't keep doing the job, however. Nadine was personally disillusioned with her lack of power as the Minority Leader, and with very little chance to win the State Senate over she knew that would never have the power she wanted. In 2016, the media began investigating more into her permanent residence. While claiming to live in the 20th Senate District, Nadine still mainly lived in Morehead City, not Durham which is where most people in the District lived. With a mounting campaign from the progressive left against her in her own District, partly due to her carpet-bagging and partly due to her close relationship with Republican's, she decided to not seek re-election. Instead, she announced that she would seek the office of Attorney General of North Carolina. Nadine had a primary challenger nominally to her left, but she defeated him 52 to 48 due to her powerful name recognition.

In 2016, she was running as a Democrat while the relatively popular Nate Richardson was running for re-election as Governor. Nadine tried her best to appeal to the moderate, suburban base, that would be later called 'Nate-Nadine Voters' by the media for their support of a Republican Governor and a Democratic Attorney-General. Nadine was able to out-fundraise her Republican opponent, nearly 2 to 1. Due to this, and her ability to turn out African-American voters in droves because of her and her fathers records, Nadine was elected Attorney-General by 0.7%.

As Attorney-General, she was not one to sit back to use he power. Nadine took keen interest in housing inequality cases, including cases surrounding the discrimination of women and the LGBTQ community. She aggressively supported the Governor in his insistence to remove Confederate Monuments across the state. Her largest action in North Carolina was recouping millions of dollars for the City of Chapel Hill following the destruction of the natural environment by a petrochemical company.

As of 2020, Nadine Marchant-Smith won the Democratic nomination for the North Carolina Governorship.
