Background:Backstory: Marray Zeve was born in 1902 in Kodiak, Alaska. His parents worked a lot, so his sister, Shaya Zeve, raised him. She taught him important historical events and discussed the confusing politics at the time. She would've been a great Politician, but sadly she died when she was only 24, Marray was 17. It was a shock for him, so he left home early and decided to study politics. His studies were so successful, that many Universities wanted to have him as a student and he agreed to go to British Columbia.
Marray Zeve was very knowledgeable in languages too because of the different nationalities. He spoke English, Aleut, Russian, Yupik and Japanese. He was also a known pacifist, trying to avoid conflict by making profitable deals. He was often called a grey cardinal because of his nature to never shine in the spot light while controlling everything else. In 1920, when he was barely 18, the League of Nations was founded. He was often talking about how terrible the League of Nation's system.
Another thing he was known for, was the amount of tea he was consuming which became more terrible in 1921 when Prohibition was cancelled in BC. He started putting Vodka into his tea. He wasn't quite an addict, as he was only drinking his lovely tea when working on a difficult problem. The roaring twenties were great for him though. His life standard was rising, but he also warned many about what could happen when they ended. Many thought he was just fooling around.
In 1926 he graduated and moved to Seattle where he worked for a while a secretary in a firm. That came crashing down in the Great depression. His job was cancelled, but he still had his savings which he had made for this exact moment. At home he was ok. Made himself his own bread, grew some vegetables and was happy to get some meat or fish. Hard times.
In 1941 he joined the US Navy to fight against the Germans. He was captured though when the captain of his ship surrendered. He send to Auschwitz and was shot once into his knees and once into his breast. The missed the heart barely. He went east, but only met hostile Polish people until he reached the Belarussian border. There he was welcomed with open arms. Marray Zeve spoke Russian fluently and he was well cared for.
In 1945, when WW2 ended, he decided to stay in the USSR. He became used to the people and customs. Minsk became his new home even though he missed his parents. He married Alyona Cherekovskaya(1905-2019) and got 2 kids, Shaya (1952-2043) and Artyem (1954-2041). He became a member of the Communist Party. In 1990, when the Soviet Union fell, the Belarussian economy stayed relatively stable, but he still decided to visit his home town, Kodiak. He was surprised to see all the changes. He hadn't been outside the Warsaw Pact countries for 45 years after all. With his 88 years he moved back to Seattle with Alyona and was often visited by his children and grandchildren. He lived a happy life and died in his sleep in 2017 with 105 years.
