Might I suggest that you try and go for advancements that have already been discovered somewhere else in the world? I vaguely remember that those are easier to discover for your people.

Yeah that's what I'm going to be aiming for, I literally have nothing to gain from just being warlike. Seems better than be a trade oligarchy and get people that way.

They are indeed - mainly because I put a hard cap on how many new advancements can be discovered, since balancing even one or two advancements can be tough, let alone more.

Would changing my research into education and code of law into philosophy ease that? If its a balancing issue I can just do ones you have already laid out.

Game, how are you innovating from a group you never met? Apologies for the late notice but there is no way you somehow managed to get masonry (let alone unbarred) from a stone city you've never seen.

I asked G several turns ago, and he ruled that based on the co-write where our envoys met at Machaka, that counted as "making contact" since you're well within my communication range. I also scanned your posts several years in a row and never saw a formal archive closing, since archives are default open. Obviously G can rule one way or another, but I'm willing to shoot some wealth your way if that makes things easier - my archives are also open to you as I mentioned in telegram a while ago.

Our co-write were two separate meetings, and my people were turned away. Neither the machaka nor riverlanders have even bothered looking for the city, you dont need to bar doors that nobody ever found. The inverse is true that the Eleskar have never located nor mentioned the riverlands, nor have they bothered to establish relations with the Machaka following the excursion to ask for help.

Hmm, well, usually I don't put any too hard restrictions on contact. Given your people talked to the Machaka, and you didn't mention any explicit efforts to keep the location of Eleskar a secret, it is pretty probably that they would have developed a working knowledge of the location of Eleskar via secondary effects - petty traders looking for new markets, friends visiting friends, arranged marriages, and so on.

That noted, and as the Riverlanders have contact with the Machaka, the Riverlanders would know the location of Eleskar too to dispatch their scholars to learn about what passes in the city. Excepting explicit governmental action, which hasn't come up yet, their ability to learn from the Eleskar is unhindered.

Seeing as none of this has been explicit in anything, assume the Eleskar naturally would not accept foreign scholars as a cultural point and will bar all future study. I will address it in my next post. This changes many things as I was wanting to remain on the enigmatic side. Not that this has mattered seeing as I have been entirely unable to come up with original technology despite having the most scholars of any civilization including the hyper-advanced deepkin.

If you like you can flavor it that your patrols spotted my scholars examining the walls and chased them off just as they finished, and I'll toss an apology gift from my city your way in a couple turns.

Technically the NPCs are actually nice to me since I pose no threat to them.

That will be 20 years with your single scholar, or next turn.

Actually 2 scholars. I'm actually the only one to have a mixed 2,2,2 group of six hundred population as of turn 17/18.

Two of my neighbors, my cousins the Yue and Chu hate my guts so I already have a warring states thing going on with em.

Then you have the Corvidians who've waged some type of holy war and have a massive hate boner(jokes on them the Huang are athiests)

Then the Khortuun who just want to join on in the fun.

Imagine that I was your neighbor and actually was the more sane one.

It’s more of a geopolitical thing, but sure, a holy war works too. Extra flavor!

I mean I apparently am having a better time with NPCs with me focusing more on trading and trying to control the region through economics than military might. So if you are my neighbor then you can expect trade instead of lighting bolts.

Meh I think none of our interests clash.Nothing I could provide you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else at a lesser cost. All my interests lay east where the good lands are.

Meh Huang culture is probably one of the most atheistic/agnostic leaning cultures in the world with their most influential philosopher being a agnostic so they won't see it has a holy war.

But sure you can see it has a holy war.

Yep! Nonbelievers and infidels gotta go.

Also, it’s not about lands or resources. No need to overcomplicate things. This is the Bronze Age! Slaves and Wealth are great! And when everyone else in the region is friendly and bothers to learn the differences between their barbarians...

East: developed and a warzone
West: Unexplored but the islands are known to be developed and trading with one another
Deepkin: Danger, Danger.
