He is a lower middle class man from Cheshire.

He's more privileged than Ralph for sure, but he's far less privileged than a lot of people in politics. He went to a comp for example and is non-Oxbridge.

It isn’t that he’s privileged, it’s that he’s a politician who Ralph doesn’t trust because he knows Richardson is trying to appeal to moderates as well as the left, and because he sees Richardson as someone skilled at spin and image management etc.

Yea

Being good at those things makes him a good politician. Who would you compare him to out of our real life politicians?

He is similar to Starmer, although slightly to the left and with a lot of the Nandyesque northern energy.

That’s sort of what I thought you were going for. I wasn’t sure if there was some McDonnell energy with him also being shadow chancellor.

Richardson wasn't shadow chancellor, he was shadow justice sec and resigned in 2018 over labour backing a second referendum which he didn't like.

Ahhh, sorry I read Shadow Lord Chancellor as Shadow Chancellor. I knew he resigned over the second referendum stance. It’s a bit difficult to compare him to a RL figure because the character really is his own. Interesting guy.

EDIT - For Nandy you’ll need more TOWNS

Still, will be doing it, if only to provoke Labour politicians to make angry tweets about the Brexit Party. More tweets, more views, more visibility. 8)

I know that. Which gives me more leeway to just outright go for 'unpopular' moves since ain't gonna get elected anyway. ;)

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: The World Capitalist Confederation
Character Name: Alexandra Bennett
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 66
Character Height: 155cm
Character Weight: 40kg
Character Position/Role/Job: Leader of the Labour Party (2015-), Leader of the Opposition (2015-), MP for Manchester Withington (1987-), Vice President of the Stop the War Coalition (2003-2015)
Appearance: Liz McInnes.
Character Constituency of Origin: Manchester Withington
Character Constituency of Residence: Manchester Withington
Character Party Affiliation: Labour and Co-Operative
Main Strengths: Organised and realistic, extremely popular amongst urban working-class voters in the North, will easily be able to hold off the Brexit Party, charismatic, inspires confidence within activists and is glorified by the left-wing of the Labour party.
Main Weaknesses: Very vulnerable to a "yellow wave" of the Lib Dems seizing seats in London due to his Northern heritage, soft eurosceptic, blasted as an anti-Semite by many, has attacked the media before and is generally seen as unpatriotic by Tory voters and even Labour centrists due to her role in the StWC and opposition to nuclear warfare.
Biography: Born in Manchester in 1953 to working-class parents, with her father being a miner and her mother being a seamstress, Bennett took her studies at Withington Girls' School, doing very well in her studies, and later studying Politics and Sociology at the University of Manchester, wherein she was recruited to the Labour Party and began to convert to more radical ideologies, feeling hatred for the people who had to make her eat only soup and bread for dinner, and generally feel a sense that the rich were parasites, living off people like her father, who came home with black hands and had constant back problems. She felt a sense of possibly misguided fervour, almost a feeling of young rebellion that would later dissipate as she became more calm with age.

After finishing her education, she finally began to enter politics, making strong speeches at her local Labour party, leading her to be selected as the candidate after the former candidate declared that he would be standing down due to "the utter collapse of the Labour Party at the hands of Mr. Callaghan.", allowing her to become candidate in 1983, but still lost by 1,790 votes. However, after a large breakthrough in the electorate in 1987 and a strong campaign by Bennett, she became the first ever Labour MP of Manchester Withington, pushing through a hard-left agenda, similar to that of Benn and of others before her. Her first main foray into national politics came when the Iraq War began. Thanks to her strong campaigning and her passion, she was selected as the Vice President, and as such she began organising heavily, helping to organise the massive rallies of the movement. She fell out of favour with the Prime Minister, actively pitting herself against him, hoping to gain the leadership if ever Labour fell out of government. She held her seat in 2005 and 2010 by effectively distancing herself with the [not-Blair] and [not-Brown] governments, saying that "I am a Labour candidate because I am a socialist, not because I support the current government. I might add to their majority, sure, but I'll be challenging them the way I have been ever since we went to the other side of the bench."

And so, as time went on, [not-Brown] was removed from office, and so she immediately raced for the leadership, increasing her name recognition across both the party and the nation, coming in second just behind [not-Miliband], mainly due to Blairite elements in the PLP. She continued to press herself as a successor to him, were they not to get into government. If [not-Miliband] was to gain power, however, she tried to angle herself for Chancellor as well. However, due to [not-Miliband]'s failure to obtain power, she began pressing herself for Labour leader immediately. She won, beating out both the Blairites and those at the centre of the Labour Party. She was voted in, and got to work immediately, secretly pushing for a more left-leaning party through covert means.

However, her first test finally came, namely in the shape of an EU referendum. She fought for remain, saying that "Britain would lead the charge to reform the EU in order to make it a more democratic institution in case of a remain vote.", hoping that she could convince Lexiters to switch sides, which was seen as an intelligent tactic that even her enemies applauded on live TV. But unfortunately, remain did not win, leading to widespread condemnation for this tactic due to "a reluctance to go all-in on the EU."

Many centrists in the party even tried to have her ousted after resigning from the shadow cabinet, but all that happened was Bennett casting them out as traitors and as hypocrites, constantly reminding the public of their praise on her strategy, leading to a Bennett landslide when the election came, allowing her to hold her ground, albeit with some kerfuffle from opposing factions.

She then, after consolidating her power further, saw that an election was coming and begun to, instead of going it short-term, build a slow infrastructure of alternative media to slowly undermine the right-leaning media of the UK whilst attempting to close the lead in on the [not-May] administration, just in case she could actually pull it off. She did 14-hour days, working day and night to plug any idea of a thumping majority. And so, unexpectedly to even her, she pulled it off, declaring an internal victory.

She now, a year and a half on from the 2017 election, stands at a crossroads, seeing a collapsing government in her hands. Will she be able to bring the Labour Party into power, creating a government further left than even Attlee or end up in the annals of history, no more than a footnote?

Well, it turns out she was indeed exactly like Michael Foot, except her own destruction had been borne by the Labour establishment, at least in her eyes. Despite her personal opinion against a second referendum, the Remainers had won in the party conference. And so, she had nothing to do but march to her own death. It works well, as she was able to keep down a possible Lib Dem surge through her alienation of the moderate wing and their placation...At least from what she felt, anyway. Despite the victory of Brian Hansen in the Conservative leadership election, she felt strong. And with the rising tide of Henderson and the splits of the Conservative Party, she got ready...

...And then suddenly, Henderson had declared a pact with the Conservatives, effectively merging their votes and leaving Labour double digits behind. And on top of that, amidst controversies of anti-Semitism and a general maligning by the media, the Liberal Democrats had faced a surge, cruising above Labour in many polls. Despite Henderson's pact returning some supporters to her, she had faced defections of voters to the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives, and while the Liberal Democrat surges were small enough to hold onto Southern seats, the Conservative swing had been enough to deliver Labour to a crushing defeat in December.

She stands disgraced, and weak...Completely in an unenviable position.

Other Info:
Abortion: Generally pro-choice, believes that abortion should be limited to 22 weeks unless there are fetal defects, the life of the mother or baby is threatened or any other reason which would cause "injury or death" if the baby was born.
Brexit: Remain, but the EU really needs to work on being democratic and loosen rules on state aid. Should assemble an alliance of European leftists, and effectively march down to Brussels threatening to destroy the EU if they don't submit to making a democratic commission and ending rules on state aid.
Climate Change: Sees that full societal change must be done in order to end it. Blames large corporations and consumer culture for climate change. Supports nuclear power to stop climate change
Defence: End nuclear weapons. Retaliatory strikes only. Pull out of Syria once IS is dead, try to pull out of Afghanistan as fast as possible. Reduce violent interventionism.
Energy: Primarily nuclear and hydroelectric.
Veterans: More must be done in the way of housing and in treating PTSD.
Immigration: Research the effect of immigration on wages and on the NHS, hoping to vindicate immigrants and finally release the gates.
Northern Powerhouse: Fully supportive. Has a Northern identity and believes in more investment in the North.
NHS: Massive funding increases in both the NHS and in social care, for both the elderly and disabled.
Home Affairs: Focus on rehabilitation as opposed to punishment.
Same-sex marriage: Supports.
I have read and accept the rules of the roleplay: The World Capitalist Confederation
