So what do I do?

Alright Christian (if approved by Cora, then I conditionally approve as well), if you want to reserve 1-3 NPCs you can introduce the character. I might demand a few edits from time to time.

After The Meeting is ove (in roughly 24 hours), we are moving to an experimental phase of the RP.

In 1 week or more (I will announce), we will be moving to the first group mission, the attack on The Vault involving all players.

Before that time (for 1-2 weeks) we are in Interim 1.

The rules are as follows for Interim 1:

Players can use this time to create and run small stakes mini-episodes and slice of life incidents to further illustrate the individual character’s lifestyles, capabilities, and personalities.

I will create 20 minor NPCs which the players can use to facilitate these scenes if needed; the players can also use a reasonable number of nameless goons.

The players can do this Solo (run the whole mini-episode by themselves), with another player, or with the help of the OP controlling NPCs.

1. The stories must be “small/low stakes” (no massive gains that fundamentally alter the stakes or the positions of the two teams)
2. The locations of the stories must be “small-scale”
3. In these stories, the player may take from 1 to 3 Mafia NPCs from the list (the Mafia NPCs can be killed)
4. The Mafia Queen and other high rankers will not appear nor be controlled by players during this time
5. The exception is that the OP might run stories that include the major NPCs but again, in a way that doesn’t alter the stakes
6. The OP will intervene and ask for edits where things aren’t working as they should (however, the goal here is to allow a huge amount of player flexibility in telling the story where possible)
7. In the scenarios, you may assume that Tom gave you “permission” to proceed where it’s necessary (alternatively, fights with the Mafia may start organically/by accident and/or If your player is a loose cannon they might act on their own initiative, perfectly fine)
8. Since multiple stories may run simultaneously, for each post please put your character name and location in bold at the start of the post
9. If an NPC is being used by one storyline, they can’t be used at the same time in another storyline (you don’t want them to appear at the same time in two+ places)

If you run the story Solo, then you can write the scenario from start to finish either in one post or a series of posts (use the 1-3 Mafia NPCs if needed).

If you run the story 2+ player, then 2+ player mechanisms will apply where players cannot control each other.

If you want the help of the OP to run the Mafia NPCs, then write up to the action of the Mafia NPC and then TG me for assistance. We can then do a back and forth until that episode is concluded. I will be checking in many times a day to ensure a good pace.

The following NPCs have been created to facilitate this and for the players to rent (if killed, they are out). The characters are generic enough that if the players use the characters, they may if they want to, expand on their skillsets/background/personality and make reasonable changes:

Name: Edmondo Golino
Appearance: A tall stocky bald thug in a leather jacket. Regularly goes around town extorting people; likes to wield a large knife.
Age: 33
Personality: A brash, highly aggressive individual, likes soccer, drinks lots of beer
Skills: mainly low-level knife combat, basic handgun use, running rackets, intimidation

Name: Cesario Marino
Appearance: A tall thin thug with a hooked nose, pops a piece of straw out of his mouth, wears fine leather shoes
Age: 31
Personality: A connoisseur of fine wine and clothes, watches gangster movies and tries to imitate the behavior of sophisticated thugs. Walks around and casually carries out acts of violence.
Skills: Low-to-moderate skill with pistols, has experience in knife fights, extortion, drug smuggling, murder

Name: Calvin Opizzi
Appearance: Has long messy and greasy hair, wears sunglasses, dresses completely in black with military boots
Age: 29
Personality: A brash, highly aggressive, highly sadistic individual who likes to bully people, almost always smoking or driving a motorbike.
Skills: Skilled at motorbike driving, weapon of choice is the Uzi submachine gun, low-to-mid level brawling

Name: Albert Palmiotto
Appearance: Wears glasses, dresses in a blue suit with a red tie
Age: 27
Personality: Albert is involved with the Mafia but he is timid and hesitant about violence. He is a collaborator and not a regular crew member. He works from a small office and is involved with small scale money-related operations. He washes money for the mob. He is mostly in it out of fear rather than actual loyalty to the mob.
Skills: accounting fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, basic drug dealing

Name: Mike Bellano
Appearance: Wears a green fedora, has short brown hair, a slightly freckled face, wears green jeans and running shoes
Age: 23
Personality: Joined the Mafia because it was cool and his uncles are big timers. Talks very very big and has killed 2 people but mostly hides behind bigger players.
Skills: Low level use of handguns, basic extortion work

Name: Vincenzo Rizzo
Appearance: Wears a gray sweater, black pants, and a blood red fedora, a white scarf
Age: 31
Personality: A sneaky, crafty, oily Mafiosi with a creative side. Vincenzo enjoys tricking innocent people out of money in low level scams. Vincenzo is a hedonist who likes to party and drink. He prefers to avoid violence where he can. He is always looking for creative ways to make the Mafia more money and he is well-liked by his allies.
Skills: Cons, manipulation, acting, can use a gun, low level counterfeiting and money laundering

Name: Filippo Sabbatini
Appearance: A short thug with a blue T shirt and tattooed arms.
Age: 29
Personality: Filippo complains about his work all the time. He can’t wait to get off the clock and watch soccer on his television set in the house by the subway. He likes to drink, fight, and brawl.
Skills: Mainly used by the Mafia to move things at the docks. He does a lot of the heavy lifting, however, he gets borrowed by crews to do some fighting and extortion. Knows how to use a gun, but prefers to brawl.

Name: Emilio Cafaro
Appearance: Olive skin and brown eyes, a lot of facial hair, wears a vest over a white silk shirt
Age: 34
Personality: Emilio isa tough talker and is good at striking deals for the Mafia. However, in combat he prefers to let others do the fighting though he will step up if he has to. Emilio is very materialistic and focuses on maximising money for himself, his family, and his crew members. He is a soldier but one with many ideas and one who often assumes the role of informal leader.
Skills: Basic gun use, extensive experience in smuggling drugs and striking deals

Name: Frank Veratti
Appearance: A drooling, thug with red sunglasses and messy dark hair, wears very casual and rundown clothes and running shoes
Age: 34
Personality: He’s almost always drunk or high on drugs, rarely clear-headed. A troublemaker even amongst the ranks of the Mafia, he is known for extreme unpredictability and violence. Has a very hyperactive personality and isn’t clear-headed. Generally used to kill people but makes a huge spectacle out of it.
Skills: Basic gun use, extensive knife skills, sometimes wields an axe (which he is good at using), murder-for-hire, basic drug running

Name: Paulos Fontana
Appearance: Dressed impeccably in a black and grey striped suit, wears a fedora, has a handsome olive-colored face
Age: 35
Personality: Paulos is a family man; he’s a loving father to his little girl and a good husband. However, in his work, he’s a ruthless and sadistic gangster and murderer.
Skills: Knows how to use guns, knife, favors the use of the steel wire garotte, has experience in all activities of the mob

Name: Vito Corsetti
Appearance: Olive skin and brown eyes, a lot of facial hair, dresses in grey, white, and beige blue-collar clothes
Age: 37
Personality: Works part time as a butcher while doing odd jobs for the Mafia like hits, heists, robberies, and extortion gigs. Believes in tradition, attends church regularly. Loathes television.
Skills: Mid-to-high level use of shotguns and handguns, experienced brawler and user of knives, basic Mafia street level work (with a specialty in violence and hits)

Name: Patrick Di Moze
Appearance: A tall thin thug in a leather jacket with a moustache across his face. Regularly goes around town extorting people; likes to wield a large hunting rifle.
Age: 33
Personality: Takes great pride and joy in his work, which is mainly to accompany extortion crews and point the hunting rifle at people. Has no qualms about killing or grazing people with shots. Doesn’t talk much but revels in combat and kills.
Skills: Low to mid level use of the hunting rifle, knows how to intimidate and bully businesses, cheating at cards

Name: Sam Goldstein
Appearance: A short, stocky, thug with a hooked nose, greasy hair, dressed in a white suit with a fedora
Age: 34
Personality: A nasty, violent and calculated street level thug. He likes to break arms and prides himself on strength. His favorite style of intimidation and extortion is to hold people over the ledge of buildings with the help of his buddies. He likes lemonades, crime novels, and opera.
Skills: Knows how to use a gun, experienced brawler and breaker of arms, extortion, proficient at holding people over the edge of buildings.

Name: Sonia Delluci
Appearance: A young woman in a tank top with lots of tattoos and short hair.
Age: 29
Personality: A happy, cheerful, earphone-plugged-in junkie (on all sorts) who counts money for the mob and has even killed a few people with a gun. Unpredictable and a bit of a loose cannon.
Skills: Money laundering, basic accounting, has used a gun before

Name: Salvatore Bianchi
Appearance: Wears a beige suit and beige fedora, has very dark skin, several rings on one wrinkled hand
Age: 31
Personality: Is very excited about all kinds of thefts and robberies. His main hobbies are cooking (pizza and pastas) and listening to classical music. Bianchi is a sociopath and believes the world is his for the taking. He is also a bit of a racist.
Skills: Specializes in car jacking and heists, in his casual time, he goes around breaking into cars, if people get in his way, he scares them off. Low level use of the handgun.

Appearance: A stocky gold-haired thug in a leather jacket who wears a fedora. Regularly goes around town extorting people; carries a large revolver.
Age: 35
Personality: Milano follows orders without question. He considers himself a professional soldier and is somewhat of a stiff. He is fiercely loyal to the Mafia and commits atrocities without any qualm or hesitation. He doesn’t talk much but when he does, it’s generally about tactics.
Skills: Low-mid-level use of handguns. Has a basic well-rounded skill set in street level work (smuggling, robbery, heists, extortion).

Name: Rose De Rossi
Appearance: A tall, thin dark-skinned woman with a hooked nose
Age: 26
Personality: Very aggressive and sadistic, brash, and outspoken. She is the psychopathic little sister of an older, more high-ranking mobster. Others around her gravitate towards her leadership because she is the most violent and aggressive. However, she doesn’t necessary have the best strategy sense.
Skills: Can use a gun and a knife, participates in rackets, very experienced in armed robberies, low level drug operations

Name: Gabriella Venezia
Appearance: A tall tan-skinned woman in a black dress and heels.
Age: 33
Personality: She is the sister of a low level Mafia thug. Helps the Mafia count money at a low level base where drugs, goods, and dirty cash go through. Is very talkative.
Skills: Counting dirty money. Can use a gun.

Name: Fredo Montalti
Appearance: A chubby thug with a black beanie and a scar across his face, wears striped clothes and jeans
Age: 34
Personality: He usually drives trucks and vans all over the town for mob missions. In combat he is somewhat cowardly; complains a lot about his work and sometimes treats team mates with disrespect. Hates cats.
Skills: High speed car, truck, and van driving. Smuggling and get-away driving. Can hold and use a gun.

Name: Arnold Griezmann
Appearance: Has light brown-curly hair and a large nose, dressed in a grey suit
Age: 31
Personality: He goes around gunning people down for the good of the Mafia; however, he has a sense of humor and is a ladies man
Skills: Low-mid level skill with handguns, can use a submachine gu

Name: Massimo Bellano
Appearance: Has a large square jaw and short brown hair, fierce brown eyes. Massimo likes to wear a black suit and tie, often sporting a fedora and a white scarf.
Age: 41
Personality: Bellano is a high-ranking captain in the United Mafia. He rubs a number of crews on the Brooklyn side. He collects lots of gems and rare paintings and is very materialistic, preferring to live in opulence. Bellano used to be a cold blooded killer but these days he leaves the killing to others.
Skills: experience in drug crew and hit squad command, proficient user of firearms, wealth management, plotting assassinations

Name: Michael De Rossi
Appearance: A gangster in a white suit and white fedora. Michael is very tall and has green eyes and olive-dark skin. He tends to go around with either a complete shotgun or a sawed-off model. Michael has an aggressive and commanding demeanour in the way that he walks and carries himself.
Age: 34
Personality: Michael is a street-level captain of a small crew (one who fights directly and leads from the front). He is courageous and very loyal to the Mafia and fiercely protective of his sister Rose De Rossi. If he has a weakness though, it's that his temper does from time to time explode into homicidal rage. He smokes a lot and takes great pride in the gold watch that he wears.
Skills: mid-to-high level use of firearms, prefers the shotgun, experience in many levels of mob activity, has a specialty in daring armed robberies

Cheese was originally a normal gang, like the Black Knots were, but the Knots had already cornered the black market in the area, along with their rivals. So Avati's gang found another way to make money, morphing into a vigilante group that protected people from the gangs in exchange for money. They were very successful, and caught many criminals from both gangs. The other gangs could not hunt them down, because they used them to catch other gangsters from other gangs. The Cheese soon became more and more scheming, and developed a system where they would intimidate their opponent, by holding them off the edge of a bridge, until they gave them more money than they would get for catching them. They would often come into conflict with the police, and Avati was detained on trumped-up theft charges following the disappearance of a police officer he was alleged to have partaken in when he was 17. He bribed his way out of jail due to money his friend made selling drugs, and then spent time going in and out of jail intentionally, dealing with targets and bribing cops. At age 21 however, members of the Italian-American mafia, which Joel's uncle was supposedly connected to, raided his uncle's garage which was being used by the Cheese. The resulting firefight resulted in two dead mafia and four dead Cheese, and the rest of his gang was fractured and broke off into little pieces after that. Joel's closest allies
were also killed or ran off, but he swore he would never rest until his largest act of justice was completed, catching the Mafia Queen who destroyed his gang, essentially his family, and bringing justice.

Alternatively, maybe since you're a pretty good writer, I could consider having you create a hacker/tech oriented minor NPC to face off against Lorelei in the interim =) I'm not very good at writing those types of characters because tech is a weak point of mine but you've been doing great so far and filling the niche. =)

Yeah, you summed it up. I would not have expected someone to spot a kilometer far inside a forest, so more like you would have to close in until you are only a few 100m away but I guess it's a light forest then. Also I would have imagined it to show signs of usage but if it's empty I'm sure we can use it for something else, too.

A poor team player especially when it comes to women due to a high level of misogyny, sadly Boris is quite a genius on his own. When forced to conciliate the fact, that the Mafia found him, abducted him and forced him to work for them, with his self-image of invincibility he hatched the delusion that he has gotten right where he wants to be and as long as he is working well the Mafia supplies him with enough cocaine and whores to reinforce this believe.

You can run them on your own or ask that the OP help by running the mob NPCs

I kind of like this format because it allows for varying degrees of player control over the storylines

You though you had a pulp Ganster/Fantasy story but with me, it's a pulp cyberpunk story. Muhaha! (Okay, in terms of retro-futuristic cyberpunk, I guess Kevin is still outclassing me. But otherwise...)

Just saying sorry for those among you who are more techy and know those terms I'm using well enough to realize the bullshit in what I'm writing: I'm still much closer to actual reality then any episode of CSI (including the short-lived "Cyber" spinoff), NCIS, Chuck, Castle and basically all the other TV-shows that I'm drawing inspiration from.
