Diplomacy without arms is like music without instruments.-Frederick the Great

Discord

It is an Age of Empires

It is the year 1785 and the nations of the world vie back and forth for hegemony. The world is divided among numerous Empires, Kingdoms, Duchies, Principalities, and even Republics. The glories of the Old World and the newborn wonders of the New clashing back and forth. Diplomacy, intrigue, economics, and war crossing paths in equal measure. All tools to be used in the progress of ones goals. All across Europe cities expand and grow in decadence. The wealth of nations fed by their own innovation and imperialistic drives. Africa a battleground of colonial enterprise and native nations. Asia is beset by increasing outside pressures as its old civilizations are challenged by their Westward competitors. While the Americas may very well see the birth of nations never seen before. While at sea great fleets of sailing ships exchange deafening cannonades in the name of their nation.

Mechanics and Setting

The roleplay is essentially an alt history role play. The point of divergence is the year 1291 with the Christians winning the Crusades through alternate trend (instead of the more popular alternate hinge where a singular event causes the split). Leading to at minimum a much more prolonged Kingdom of Jerusalem and the butterfly effect only expands out from there. There are however some points of history which still occur as guidance for players when thinking of ideas, and offering a base to work from at varying epochs, which will be listed below.

+The Little Ice Age occurs as it did historically. All macro environmental events in history occur as they did in OTL.
+The Black Death still occurs and follows much the same pattern that it did historically.
+The New World is not discovered until 1492 as it did in real life.
+Martin Luther still nails his Thesis onto the doors of Wittenberg Castle Church. However, the progress of the Protestant Reformation and resultant Counter-Reformation is up to individual players.
+The Thirty's Year War does occur in 1618 and end in 1648. However, the exact events, why it started, and conclusion is left to individual player histories.
+The Holy Roman Empire will still exist in 1785. But in what state is largely left to player histories.

Diplomacy, Fog of War, Time

Diplomacy is naturally an important part of the role play and likely the most common tool to be used by players aside from war. The latter being a potentially far more costly yet decisive method. Diplomacy can mean victory or defeat in the pursuit of your objectives far quicker and readily than warfare. Good diplomacy could mean a strong network of allies, economic dealings producing great bouts of prosperity, or even allowing one to carve up parts of the globe by holding a Congress of nations. All without firing a shot. However, should the saber be drawn and the black powder primed there exists a simple mechanic to simulate the chaos of warfare during the time period. The Fog of War.

Until the advent of telegraphs and railroads the act of conducting battles was a partially blind affair. Battle lines between various regiments or even divisions could stretch for many kilometers as various components of an army conduct maneuvers or engage, disengage, and flank their opposition. To simulate this, and also remove potential gridlocking that can plague RP battles, battles will use a simple mechanic regarding the issuing of orders and movement of units. In short players cannot react instantly to battlefield situations at the strategic level. A general if even on the optimal position of a hill ordering his cavalry, located say on the left flank, to conduct a charge at an objective will not be able to suddenly recall them due to their opponents reaction. Why? Two reasons: Because a messenger even going full tilt would be unlikely to catch them anyways, and also to make strategic decisions carry weight. Another one to put it is this is via example:

Player A: Orders cavalry to charge, not aware ICly about enemy infantry and artillery positioning.
Player B: Opposing general, who had infantry behind a low defilade, orders infantry to focus down on the cavalry alongside already drawn up and prepared cannons about to unleash cannister shot.
Player A: May see this, may issue a recall, but the cavalry won't suddenly and magically be able to retreat with no losses.
Player B: Opens fire. Players work out casualties OOCly as the battle undoubtedly unfolds on other fronts.
Player A: Can now say his cavalry is retreating.

This naturally leads to the issue of Time. The RP will be broken up into two parallel tracks. What I call the Macro-Timeline where I would ask players to put it in bold and in large font size. This notation of time will follow the OPs movements forward as we go month to month. As such the RP can be broken up into Month sized chunks. The second piece is the Micro-Timeline where players can RP various interactions between named characters and personalities like national leaders, diplomats, war councils, or even minor events to fluff out their posts.

Rules

1. Have common sense. Don't be surprised if frequent war mongering leads to others joining forces against you, and thus you're in a corner.
2. Be polite, remember patience is a virtue.
3. No god-modding, metagaming, or otherwise "cheating". Win with honour and lose with grace.
4. Realize the geo-political, geographical, and logistical situation of your nation and its disposition. No nation is great at everything. No army is unbeatable, nor fleet unassailable. Recognize if you're in a favorable or unfavorable situation and act accordingly. For good or ill, refer to rule 3.
5. Use your words. If you don't send out reconnaissance, then you have no reconnaissance. Now, this does not mean you have to exhaust yourself making ironclad posts. Rather, if you don't write sending out reconnaissance and a player assumes they can maneuver without you knowing then roll with it. That is after all a totally fair assumption any counterpart made.
6. Operators reserve all rights and their say is law. Players may of course debate decisions in a civil manner. But whining will not avail you.
7. Keep OOC and IC knowledge separate.

Breakdown of Army
The Army of the Empire in 1785 is an assortment of modernized regiments, some founded during the reign of Peter the Great, and then followed by an assortment of second rate provincial forces supplemented in some regions by Cossack irregulars. The Russian Imperial Army, as it had since the reforms of Peter the Great, uses a conscription based system for maintaining regiments at full strength. Only the guard regiments are selective and require an actual application to enlist. Conscription is delegated as the responsibility of the various Governorates and Oblasts to supply a set amount of soldiers every year for service. Service is four years followed by twenty-one years on the reserve rolls.

The Cossack Hosts are semi-autonomous groups of horsemen assigned to guard the Empire's frontiers in the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Far East.

Major Domestic Issues

Liberal Economy, Traditional Society
Russia struggles with renewed energy to modernize its economy and the desire of nobles and peasants to preserve the traditions of Russia. Leading to a tenuous mixture of modern manufactoriums, expanding cities, and expanding markets with a distinctly rural majority practicing centuries old traditions.

An Empire of Wilderness
Much land is fallow and not utilized. While the population of the Empire is growing rapidly the presence of Serfdom, collectivization of responsibility for farmland in rural regions, and slow agrarian growth put an uneven constraint on the Russian economy. Even as markets expand, commerce grows with the founding of more and more enterprises, and the increased productivity of domestic industries. The agrarian regions of the Empire sport much slower progress.

Serfdom?

Millions of Imperial subjects are serfs, tied to land, and the whims of a noble class. Limiting their productive potential and also stunting the income of the state through inefficient means of collection. As the duty of the serfs owners is to pay taxes. Leading to the reaping of vast sums by the nobility.

Major Foreign Issues

The Manchurian Question
Russia vies with East Asian powers for control of Manchuria. A situation that is volatile at best.

Russian America
The Russian Colony of Alaska has existed for decades. But with other powers colonizing America, and its distance, the Emperor is posed with the question of what to become of the farthest flung Colony. And what a potential clash in the Americas could mean.

Gateway to the Mediterranean

Russia longs for better maritime access. Control of the Bosphorus Straits would allow the Empire easy access to the lucrative trade routes of the Mediterranean.

History
The Russian Empire has its roots in the older Tsardom of Russia and even before that, in the Grand Principality of Muscovy. Throwing of the Tatar Yoke under the reign of Ivan III, who unofficially took the title of 'tsar', in 1480. The Tsardom of Russia rapidly expanded from the core territory of Muscovy during the reign of Ivan III, who would become known as Ivan the Great in the following centuries, tripling in size. Extending the control of Muscovy from the Kola peninsula in the North, to the Urals in the East, borders of the Livonian and Commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania in the West, and Kazan to the South. Incorporating Novgorod, Suzdal, Ryazan, Vologda, and Smolensk by 1505.

Under Vasili III, 'tsar' was taken as an official title and through the marriage of the Palaiogina and Rurikid Dynasty, adopted the Double-Headed Eagle as the emblem of the Tsardom. However, the next great phase of expansion did not occur until his own sons reign, Ivan IV. The latter conquering the Kazan Khanate and Astrakhan; along with the colonization of Western Siberia with the help of the wealthy Stroganov family and the Cossack leader Yermak Timofeyevich. However, the wars of Ivan IV later in life, against western neighbors, and own internal problems due to the Oprichnina led to stagnation. A stagnation which following Tsars of the Godunov dynasty were unable to effectively resolve. Resulting in the Time of Troubles for Russia.

The period of internal chaos to social cohesion only resolving slowly with the ascension of Michael I of Russia. The first Romanov Tsar. It was under Michael I's reign that internal troubles were resolved and outward expansion continued with renewed vigor. Eastern Siberia and what would become the Russian Far Eastern territories of Yakutsk would be colonized. While Russia reached the Pacific Ocean and established the outpost, then city, of Okhotsk. His successor, Alexis I of Russia, saw wars with various Western neighbors and a major Cossack rebellion under Stenka Razin. Both being frequent and drawn out affairs. The latter only resolved after the siege of Simbirsk and the capture and execution of Razin. The former resulted in little change for Russia. Socially, the Schism with the Old Believer's occurred. Splitting the Russian Orthodox Church and the Old Believer's.

Little of note occurred until the ascension of Peter I. Who would go on to transform the Tsardom into the Russian Empire. Peter the first, later known as Peter the Great, would seek to modernize the Russian state. From his victory in the Great Northern War that saw the acquisition of Finland. Too his founding of the Russian Empire in 1721. The Petrine reforms led to the establishment of a modern army, the founding of Saint Petersburg as the new capital of the Empire while also providing a 'Window to the West.' And finally the initial efforts to induce early industrialization to the country. Leading to the foundation of the first manufactories in Saint Petersburg, Moscow, and Tomsk. While various mines in the Urals and further afield in Siberia began to be exploited. Upon his death in 1724, Tsarina Catherine I, became Tsar until her own passing in 1727. At which point Peter II, grandson of Peter I, ascended the throne as a youth. Until he too died an untimely death in 1730. Leading to the succession of his sister Anna I of Russia. At the intervention of several Romanov supporters in court, but only after the pledged loyalty of several Imperial Army regiments and the Baltic Fleet was a possible civil war avoided.

The new Empress of Russia founded the Cadet Corps in 1731. The Secret Office of Investigation also was formed in her reign as a means to institute greater accountability for the prosecution of criminals, though also serving to empower the monarch regarding possible political opponents. Westernization continued apace, though with focus primarily on the sciences, education of the nobility, and the arts. Importing many Western scientists and artisans into Russia's major cities. Externally, Anna's reign saw the acquisition of territory from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and tightening grip on the Caucsus. While in Asia the Kirghiz were incorporated into the Empire as an Imperial Protectorate.

Anna however did remarry and manage to produce two heirs. The sickly Ivan VI who reigned for a year before being removed in a coup by his cousin Elizabeth. Elizabeth would become a popular ruler in her own right for stating and following through with the promise to never execute a person during her reign. Elizabeth was noted for the rejection of various Western cultural policies, but kept the introduction of industrialization and science into Russia. While opening the large Imperial purse to the funding of various construction projects. During her reign Moscow State University and The Imperial Academy of Fine Arts were founded in Moscow and Saint Petersburg respectively. The Peterhof Palace was rebuilt while Elizabeth's most famous project, the Winter Palace, was built. However, Elizabeth died childless and Peter of Holstein-Gottorp would have ascended to the throne if not for the intervention of Grand Duchess Catherine, the daughter of Empress Anna, whom secured her young son Alexander to the throne in 1762.

Emperor Alexander I of Russia's reign has been energetic. Furthering, his liberal policies, heralded through tutors that had studied abroad in Britain, France, and Italy, led to the expansion of commercial endeavors in Siberia and the Far East. While early clashes with China led to Russia securing influence over Outer Manchuria in the late 1762 and early 1770s. Alexander however was soon faced with a conservative nobility and thus has to balance his westernization of Russian industry and the preservation of Slavic bodies like the municipal Mir allotment of farmland (collective distribution of land), and the rights and privileges of the aristocracy. Especially, given the presence of over ten million Imperial Citizens holding the low status of Serfs.

Currency: Dinar (دينار)
Major import/export partners: Qing Dynasty, Maratha Confederacy, Holy Roman Empire, Denmark-Norway, Sweden, Malay states
Major Domestic Issues:
  • Algerian Independence: After more than six hundred years under Marinid rule, from its origins in Morocco to the global Empire it presently is, there is a growing movement within Algeria that petitions for the independence of Algeria, breaking from the Marinid Caliphate as a sovereign state.
  • Industrialization: The Marinid Empire is on the verge of the Industrial Revolution. The Marinid government is preoccupied with the daunting task of preparing enough infrastructure to embrace fully the Industrial Revolution.
Major Foreign Issues:
  • Conquest of Indonesia: The Marinid Empire saw its far-flung and sporadic possessions in Indonesia as threatened by other European imperial powers. It should focus on uniting the Archipelago as soon as possible to prevent other Imperial powers hopping down the Indonesian islands, challenging Marinid domination over the South China Sea.
  • France: France has long been the nemesis of all Muslim states in Iberia, from the Umayyad Caliphate to the Marinid Empire. As a Catholic power, France is traditionally at odds with the largest Muslim power in Europe to their south. The Marinids has a history of supporting France's enemies; the British, the Huguenots, the Calvinists, and various German states, even including the Catholic Habsburg Empire. While no major conflict has broken out between France and the Marinids for several decades, peace is as feeble thin strand of hair. The Marinids must seek to isolate their deadly nemesis if they were to keep their dominance.

History:

    The Re-Reconquista

With the city of Algeciras secure in Nasrid hands, the two Islamic kingdoms in Iberia and Northern Africa established an even closer relationship with the goal of recovering lands lost to Castille and Aragon by the Cordoba Caliphate. Marinid Sultan Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Othman, responding to the plea for help sent by Muhammad IV of Granada, and captured Gibraltar. Abu al-Hasan himself was present in the capture, and to seal the alliance between the Marinids and the Nasrids, married the daughter of Muhammad IV - as well as arranged the marriage between major Moroccan and Granadan nobles. Abu al-Hasan invited Granadan nobles to his capital in Fez, and as a result of these arrangements, Muhammad IV was not assassinated by resentful nobles.

In Granada, Abu al-Hasan and Muhammad IV declared a firman (command), to restore the lost territories of Andalusia, and to unite all of Iberia under Islam. Shortly afterwards, this commitment was put into test when Abu al-Hassan received an appeal from the Muhammad IV to help drive back the Castilians. The assembly of a large Marinid invasion force in Morocco prompted the Castilian king Alfonso XI to bring to an end his quarrel with Afonso IV of Portugal. The Marinid fleet under the command of Muhammad ibn Ali al-Azafi destroyed the Castillian fleet, and also prevailed against the Portuguese and Genoese hired fleets, clearing the Moroccan supply line and allowed more soldiers to join the battle. The Marinids were victorious in the Battle of Rio Salado, eventually capturing Tarifa. With the Portuguese and Castillian navies suffering crippling defeat, and in land - their combined armies were defeated - the path was clear for a new Islamic conquest of Iberia.

Abu al-Hasan succeeded in uniting Morocco, Tlemcen, and Ifriqiya (Tunis) in 1347. Instead of spending his time imposing authority over Arab tribes, Abu al-Hasan assembled another army composed of auxiliaries and soldiers from Tlemcen, the Atlas Mountains, and Tunisia. This force, which landed on Tarifa two years after the conquest of Tunis, was even larger than the force he assembled in Rio Salado. The combined Marinid and Granadan (Nasrid) armies defeated a combined Portuguese-Castillian army near Seville, and managed to capture the city. Abu al-Hasan celebrated his victory in the Alcazar of Seville - the former Moorish fortress turned palace - a century after the city was taken by Castillian forces, it was returned into Moorish hands. Abu al-Hasan expelled the Catholic priests and divided Andalusia between the Arab tribes, his subjects in North Africa.

Later years would see further Marinid incursion into Castillian and Portuguese territory. Abu al-Hasan's successor Abu Inan Faris launched three campaigns against Portugal, which succeeded in capturing the Alentejo region and the city of Lisbon. The Marinids sponsored the mass migration of Arab-Berber tribes into Iberia, even going as far as inviting Egyptians and Arabs from the Levant to settle there. The population of Iberia increased significantly because of this policy. In 1380 the conquest of Iberia was completed with the fall of Barcelona to Marinid hands.

    Age of Exploration

The Muslim conquest of Iberia increased the Peninsula's population almost twice because of the mass migration of Arabs and Berbers there. The local Catholics, meanwhile, were still allowed a high degree of autonomy. The Marinids implemented a series of political reforms to control the feudal Christian lords; namely, assigning Berber and Arab tribes to rule over them, so that the Christian nobles would be responsible to the Muslim nobles. Using the wealth from Castille and Aragon, the Marinids constructed universities and madrasas (Islamic schools). Latin script co-existed with, and would gradually replaced by, Arabic script. Before 1600, there was Catholic representation in the Majlis al-Ulama; albeit very small compared to the Islamic cleric and nobles who sat on the legislative body.

Using the account of Ibn Battuta, a Marinid explorer, later Marinid navigators would chart sea routes to India from Iberia, and discover a new continent they would call أمريكا ('Amrika) after the Italian merchant Amerigo Vespucci, who settled in Castile and was commissioned to lead exploration voyages in the new continent by the Sultan. The conquest of South America and Mexico lasted during the reign of Sultan 'Abd al-Rahman III, from 1515 to 1580. By the death of 'Abd al-Rahman III, most of America has been organized into Marinid wilayats: the Wilayat of Al-Andalus al-Jadid (Mexico), the Wilayat of Inka (Peru and Colombias), and the Wilayat of Bairnambuqa (Brazil).

The Marinids actively tried to convert the native population to the Islamic faith, with good success. They introduced a writing system for the Nahuatl, Mayan, Incan, and other native languages with the Arabic script. The Marinids appointed Muslim natives as governors in Native lands, and started the infamous, and now ubitquous across North and South America, the trade caravans - most of them using camels, mirroring the Arab trade caravans in Africa. Islam spread through trade and diplomacy; the Marinid governors are friendly towards any Native state that accepts Islam. While Latin was still used in governance, albeit meagerly, on Iberia - in the Americas Arabic became the common lingua franca, even in territories not colonized by the Marinids, because the majority of trade would be conducted in Arabic. The use of Iberian languages, especially Castilian, was sparse and suppressed.

In Marinid colonies in South America, resource-extraction economies would be the norm. The Marinids employed thousands of Natives, Berbers, and Christians alike (with the largest portion of it being the Christians) as workers in Bolivian silver mines. They also grew sugar in the Caribbean and Central America. Wealth from the New World single-handedly transformed the Marinid Caliphate into one of the richest countries in the world - wealth which they used to further their colonial interests in Asia. Marinid explorers reached the Banda Islands (Spice Islands) before any other European state, and established a monopoly on clove and nutmeg that they still maintains until this day.

    The Fall from Grace

What was considered the "Second Islamic Golden Age" abruptly ended on the 1750s, when a series of conflicts engulfed the Marinid colonies of South America. Originally stemmed from the difference in interpreting Islamic law (fiqh, popular discontent spreads across the Wilayats of Inka and Bayrnambuqa that resulted in a rebellion against Marinid authority. Both sides declared Jihad (Holy War) against each other; with allegations of corruption and apostasy. The Marinids spent considerable wealth and resources trying to retake their South American wilayats, but to no avail, regardless.

The turning point in the war was when an army of Native auxiliaries and Arab-Berber rebels, commanded by one of the Sultan's distant relatives, defeated a Marinid Army in Baqata (Bogota). Marinid forces, however, continue to hold several key cities on the coast, most notably Qurtuba al-Jadid (Cartagena de Indias), until they were finally expelled on 1760. A relative of the Marinid Royal Family, 'Abd al-Karim, declared himself Caliph in Baqata shortly after the Marinid forces withdrew in February 1761. This claim was little respected, and the new state soon fell into infighting and civil war. Using this opportunity Sultan Abu Said Uthman IV launched another expedition to Qurtuba al-Jadid on 1765, briefly occupying the city for two months until the Marinids were finally driven out of Wilayat Inka (Colombia). The Marinid Empire still has plans to recover their old colony, however, it still need to wait.

History

The golden age of piracy was a thorn in the side of Colonial England. And with the distance and defensibility of the Caribbean from the Empire, it was difficult to bring the pirates and privateers in line. So King George offered a solution. An end to the rebellion, in exchange for a pardon for all of their crimes of piracy, offered to them by the King's appointed Governor, Woodes Rogers. This offer was a spit in the face of many of the more proud and notable pirate captains. Edward "Blackbeard" Teach, backed by Charles Vane, Jack Rackham, Stede Bonnet, William Kidd, Amaro Pargo, Olivier Levasseur, and Edward Seegar, and more, all formed the first of three Pirate coalitions in defense of the Caribbean lands taken by the pirates. The coalition fought off the renowned English navy, aided greatly by their inability to resupply in the region. After driving the English out of the Caribbean in retaliation to the insulting offer of a pardon, Edward Teach lead Charles Vane and William Kidd north to the North Carolina colony. Here Blackbeard slew Lieutenant Robert Maynard and Charles Vane slew Governor Woodes Rogers. Their heads were severed and flown by the flags of their respective ships as the crews returned to Nassau victorious.

With this battle won, this coalition of pirates came together to formalize their pirate code in order to form a new nation. Divided as they naturally were, they knew the value of standing together now, having driven the English back as they did. With the code formed and agreed upon, the first elections of Libertalia were held in 1724. Shockingly, Stede Bonnet was named the first ever Councilor of Libertalia. And he was re-elected thrice before his death in 1740. During this time Councilor Bonnet oversaw the formation of the Second Coalition, to defend against an invasion attempt by England. It was successful, but cost Libertalia great losses. Including the lives of Edward Teach and Charles Vane. It ended with a shaky ceasefire agreed upon by Libertalia and England, who to this day do not recognize Libertalia as a formal nation.

The third pirate coalition, formed in 1765, under the leadership of controversial Councilor Carter Tuster, was the first and to date only offensive coalition in Libertalia's short history. Tuster, A merchant Councilor, wanted to challenge for control of the southern tip of Florida. He believed that control of this area was paramount to defense of the nation as it could be an opportune staging point for an attack. This coalition ended in fantastical failure, losing nearly thirty ships and twenty pirate crews in the process. Tuster did not get elected to a second term in 1770 as Calibassas Teach, the grandson of Blackbeard, has been the Councilor of Libertalia since then.

Broken down into Armies and Garrisons, the British Army in times of relative peace is one of exceptional professionalism, with the finest equipment

The Royal Army: Fifty Thousand strong and comprising of the most elite regiments of the British Army as a whole, the Royal Army is garrisoned throughout the British Isles. The Royal Army also deals with garrisoning the African holdings, with two thousand soldiers, and a few hundred soldiers in Australia.

The Colonial Army: Thirty thousand strong, the Colonial Army is comprised of both locally raised Colonial Regiments and proper British Regiments, the Colonial Army is tasked with securing and expanding the frontier, protecting settlers, and otherwise garrisoning the American colonies. The Colonial Army is noted for excellent light infantry formations.

The South American Garrison: At roughly five-thousand strong, the South American Garrison is tasked with securing British possessions in South America. They are primarly a defensive force, manning an impressive array of fortresses.

The Indian Army: As the Crown continues to gain more control over the East India Trading Company, one of the first things it took control of was the EITC military forces. Numbering roughly twenty thousand in total, the Indian Army is a combination of former EITC men and local troops.

Major import/export partners Russia, the Maratha Confederacy
Major Domestic Issues
Native Integration
The American Colonies have been steadily pushing west, with the crowns blessing and support. Native tribes have been given the chance to assimilate into the Empire. Some agree, some don't, but either way it tends to cause some trouble.

Slavery in the Americas
Slavery has always been a touchy issue in the American colonies, and as the Empire moves to halt the slave trade, it has rightfully been called out for its hypocrisy of wanting to end the slave trade and allowing natives to integrate while slavery is still an on-going issue in America.

The Gentry
While the Industrial Revolution is catapulting the British economy to even grander heights, the drive for more and more has seen a sharp increase of people moving from rural areas into cities and towns, seeking and finding work in factories that seem to go up overnight. The landed Gentry, largely relying on the rents brought in by workers on their land, have been facing something of an economic crisis.

Major Foreign Issues
The Pirates
The loss of the Caribbean to a coalition of pirates, and the failed attempt to reclaim them, has been a national humiliation. While Queen Margaret tended to ignore the issue, Queen Anne II's mind is not known on the issue, but something must be done to right the humiliation

The Marinid
The Marinid Caliphate is one of the chief competitors on the world stage to the British, with their zones on interest overlapping across the globe.

Naval Supremacy
The battle for naval supremacy is a never ending one. Being an island nation, Britain relies on having the largest and most powerful navy in the world not only to secure their empire, but the Isles themselves. Warships are also expensive, and alliances with nations must be formed to try and limit just how massive of a navy Britain needs to defend itself.

History The History of the British Isles makes a major divergence at the invasion of Scotland by Oliver Cromwell in 1650. Rather then achieving a miracle of shattering the Scottish forces, Oliver Cromwell suffered defeat at the hands of the Scots. Oliver Cromwell was captured, tried, and executed. Hose Stuart continued to rule England, Scotland, and Wales up to the Acts of Union 1707, where Scotland and England were merged to become Great Britain. Queen Anne had a child that survived, and thus House Hanover was never made the royal House.

Queen Anne died in 1714, leaving the throne to her son. Charles III rule is noted for having been fairly successful in the British Isles, but very poor abroad. The greatest set-back being in 1718 when the Caribbean pirates formed a coalition and drove British presence from the Caribbean. An unwillingness to send ships and troops to reclaim the islands, as well as a few political events at home, saw Charles III simply allow the pirates to form their 'Libertalia'. Britain invested heavily into other colonial ventures after the loss, including North America. A poorly planned attempt was made in 1735 to retake the Caribbean, and while the British fleet did achieve some notable success, the campaign was ultimately a failure. Charles III's health would decline after the failed campaign, and in 1740 he would die, leaving the crown to his eldest daughter Margaret.

Queen Margaret was quite the firebrand, expanding the empire in Africa, India, and settling Australia. She had a powerful political following in Parliament that allowed her to to grant the crown more absolute privileges, tilting the balance of power firmly in the crowns favor. Half way through her reign, in the 1770s, a movement began to form and gain traction in America that called for American Colonists to be treated as true British citizens and be granted seats at Parliament. Parliament was reluctant to do so, dragging its feet, and Queen Margaret eventually used her authority to force Parliament to accept Colonial Members of Parliament, with some reports saying she even threatened to send the Royal Highlanders to dissolve Parliament if she heard another word of complaint. Thirteen colonial representatives were allowed seats in Parliament.

However, considering the considerable time it took to cross the Atlantic, Queen Margaret also allowed the establishment of a smaller American Parliament to deal with immediate issues in the American colonies, and also formed a landed nobility there as well, to serve as an upper level of the Parliament, however the amount of titles were quite limited, and the lands granted to them rather small. Royal representatives were also sent to oversee the American Parliament, with a Great Office of State, the Steward of America, being established. The first Steward of America was named as Benjamin Franklin, who had been serving in Parliament, and had before hand been the agent to the crown for several of the colonies, as well as having established himself in the scientific community of London for years. Steward Franklin still serves to this day.

Queen Margaret's last decade on the throne, 1774-1784, saw an expansion of the British navy and preparing her daughter Anne for the throne.

Anne II was crowed at the age of 18, in mid-January 1784. Although young, Anne II is noted as having sound political acumen, and is a firebrand like her mother, even more so, and she is noted as having a fierce temper.

No. There are no listed Alt history parameters regarding the Hussites. They could still dominate Bohemia.

Are they allowed? For Example, You own a Coastal Province but you want a province somewhere Inland but it would just destroy the map. Would they be allowed then?
