Fraser Mansion, Neo Orleans, Free Louisiana

"The events in Africa are only the beginning," the T.V. called out, "the 21st century will the century of the workers, based on the ground work we start today."

Fraser half listened to the broadcast as he flicked through the the Doctrine of Sonacism by Jakub Kowalski. If he had to be completely honest, he liked Kowalski more than Marx, but stating such would be political suicide with the geopolitical status of the Intermarium.

"I'm sorry but the annexation of South Africa was a bad idea," a new voice called out, "It's too soon! Already the workers of the IWEC, especially here in Amalia, have called out against the recent trade acts with the new republic. It threatens worker's lively hood."

Fraser closed the book, turning his attention to the T.V. He agreed with the new speaker, a white gentleman with brown hair. As Secretary of the Treasury, he was well aware of the economic repercussions of the move. It would help firms, but not necessarily workers. Already between Jiangshan and the Central African Union, or now, the United Syndicalist Republics of Africa, fears of outsourcing and out competing were being talked very publicly. It could ultimately reach a tipping point.

"Oh come on now!" the previous voice called out, "we both know that Amalia's strength both here and in the north, is only due to the effects of imperialism that Africa and Jiangshan have been held back. Not to mention that workers are already being to discuss long term exit plans for firms."

Fraser couldn't help but also agree with these points, perhaps he was being too amenable, but these were both fair points.

A new voice spoke up, "What worries me is the ideological aspect of this possible change. If firms do, with or without plans for current workers, do outsource, who will own these firms? Will it really be social ownership if the only workers are executives and a handful of employees? Sure maybe Jiangshan and Africa will create laws that limit their ownership in those nations, but at home who knows. This could lead us down a path...."

The T.V. cut out as Rachael Fraser, a tall muscular, black woman put her arms around Cody. She kissed the man, "enough of such talk, leave it at work. It's bed time."

Cody smiled, despite everything he was a lucky man, given all he'd been through. He put the book on the nearby table and followed his wife.

Simple Pleasures.

Derek Holden was a Lieutenant for the South African Army, a special forces group attached to an anti-tank division known as “Sigma Company”. Or atleast he was. He watched as his government betrayed him, letting the negros take control of the country he would bleed for, and watched as the communists labeled him and his men terrorists for not surrendering like dogs. Derek was in the room when the generals tried to explain to the prime minister that there was no missile they had launched at the CAU, but even if there was there was no need for an all out war... He knew this was all a set up, those dirty fucking communists, and now he was the last line of defense for his people.

It started with simple things, drive by shootings, kidnappings, the occasional grenade in an officer’s door, but as the CAU stomped its foot down on the neck of South Africa, as did his methods. He rounded up the few loyal men he had left and started their reign of terror wherever they could, as the White Legion. Women, children, no one would be sparred, not until the CAU left the region...

Oh but look where that brought him. A basement, with no natural light, no food, no water, and no human interaction. Once a day someone would come down and splash him with water to prevent him from stinking, force feed him grains and a small pint of water. Just enough to keep him alive but not enough to maintain his strength. He was stripped down to his boxers, and in the basement it fluctuated between intense heat and blistering cold. He must be somewhere north, maybe even Botswana. But those thought had to wait, he already had his shame of a trial, he knew they’d charge him with death but they wanted the veneer of public justice so they had a nice song and dance before locking him down here. The room was dark, empty, and quiet...

Tap... tap... tap... This was a new noise, one he wasn’t familiar with. His head peaked up as the door to his cell opened, to a tall light brown skinned woman, hair neatly cut with the excess tied up behind her head; on her hip was a small bag, which he assumed was a purse. He recognized her vaguely, the current Premier of the CAU, Amelia Armstrong. He couldn't help but start laughing as she pulled up a chair in front of him and sat down.

"And who do I owe the pleasure... Miss Premier..." She didn't say anything, all she did was take a key from her pocket and unlock one of his hands as she sat back down and produced a packet of cigarettes.

"You smoke?" She said bluntly, taking one out herself and lighting it. Derek looked at her confused, rotating his wrist as he plotted. He couldn't take her out, he was took weak for that, but he could off himself easily to rob them of the satisfaction... But for some reason, his mind was fixated on the pack of cigarettes instead. He nodded, reaching out to take one as she offered it forward, waiting for it to be in his mouth before lighting it. "See? I'm not a bad person..." She exhaled, letting a puff of smoke as she looked at him. "Any questions for me?" He took a long drag and blew it at her face, unflinching as she brought hers back in for another take.

"Yeah... Why?" She smirked and chuckled a little.

"Why? Why what exactly?"

"Why did the CAU break the treaty... I'm not retarded, I know a setup when I see one." Her chuckle broke into laughter, causing her to drop her cigarette as she attempted to compose herself.

"Oh boy, if someone like you figured it out, we surely are fucked..." She smiled and leaned in from her seat. "Okay, I'll let a dead man know my secret before he goes..." She leaned back and took another cigarette, inhaling softly before exhaling up towards the ceiling. "First before I say, I find this place fascinating… Did you know that we are so underground you need an oxygen tank to maintain you." She gestured to the vents on the floor and the single one on the roof. "Air goes in, CO2 goes out, simply marvelous if you ask me... But enough about this room, let's talk about me. Before I took the position I wa-"

"I don't want your fucking life story you god damn monkey, I want to know why!" She paused, looking at him with some vague amusement before continuing.

"I used to be an intelligence officer, a damn good one at that. Some may call it a spy but I don't like the implication. I never spied on anyone, just... set thing up in my nation's favor. For example, having a bus full of cadavers, driven by a very basic remote control system, get hit by a missile originating from an unmarked fighter jet on the border." His eyes widened, "of course that hard part was making up the parents, but luckily, the agency has a lot of agents with acting backgrounds... all we had to do is make them look convincing enough when they were interviewed, the water works really helped in that regard... Then we had an ample excuse to march over that border..."

"W-wait so... You're telling me tha-"

"No one died, or at least, no one initially died." She chuckled, snuffing the cigarette with her foot. She checked her chest pocket and saw that she was almost out of time. "Your nation is now apart of mine, a grand union that stretches from the Cape all the way up to the Sahara." She reached into her bag and produced a gasmask. "But enough about me... Let's get to the fun part." Amelia looked at him, and for a the first time he could see something in her eyes... Nothing. There was absolutely nothing behind those deep brown eyes, no hint of remorse or guilt. Absolutely nothing. He threw the cigarette and tried to break the cuff with his bare hand. "Man you're really pathetic right now, where's that spirit you had earlier?!" She grinned, affixing the mask to her face. He looked towards her and in a rage tried to lunge at her, but the cuff rebound him back to the steel chair that laid cemented to the floor.

"YOU BITCH! YOU BLOODY FUCKIN PSYCHOPATH!" He screamed and thrashed as the room slowly began to smell of almonds and burnt toast. He covered his mouth and held his breath but it was far too late. He could feel his lung retch and begin to cough as the cyanide gas filled his being. Amelia sat and watched behind the comfort of her gasmask as Derek thrashed and clawed at his throat, watching the foam bubble up his throat and out of his mouth. He convulsed in the chair for another few seconds, his eyes bloodshot, skin turning a pale blue and voice crackling. The last thing he would see is the empty eyes of Amelia, creased with delight at the sight of his demise, and the last thing he would hear is a very gentle clap as she began to.

"Bravo... Thank you for the show." He reached towards her, as final act of defiance and extended his middle finger just as his body gave into and fell limp. Amelia leaned back down and sighed, placing hand under her chin and another on her leg. It is these simple pleasures that made this job bearable...

October 16, 1990: Practical Changes

Postby Neo Rome Republic » Sun Jan 24, 2021 7:19 pm

The Peoples' Issue

In conjunction with accelerating moves, concerns over infrastructure are also being addressed, especially in preparation for yearly budget changes. A new government initiative to both revamp and uplift the "face of the government. The government of the Intermarium is planning on sending organized teams to deal with the sinkholes and shall then pay for the changes in next years budget to cover the costs. This initiative means improving both the country internally and externally, that the country is getting a "facelift" for the new decade and the coming century. That the government shall try to balance improving the quality of key government services and industries, both domestic and internationally focused like the military. The teams shall be dispatched to repair the sinkholes and other infrastructure projects are underway. The President had this to say on the policy change: "The Intermarium must make serious changes both inside and outside. So aside from military reforms, we shall also focus on increasing costs for infrastructure upkeep, starting with the teams we are sending to deal with the most immediate sinkholes in our roads, and then a long term plan of upkeep starting next year in 1991. The cost will not be covered in the current budget, but shall instead go to the next years one, in order to spare no expense in dealing with the current crisis. In conjunction with that is the planned reform and reorganization of our military. Cutting the fat on both internal quality and externally security, making them the most efficient they can be. So, the teams are to be dispatched to deal with the major sinkholes and our progress on military shall continue, with all of this coming together for the new year as to then be paid for. We must spare no expense in this case when it comes to the welfare and upkeep of our cities, true, we shall become stagnant and lax in many areas, but, we have begun renewed action and soon these issues will erode in the long term. The military will not take away from this, rather, all will be reorganized in a more balanced fashion as to best deal with external threats and the internal stability of our country. We advocate a more representative and accountable but also technocratic work of government for the nation and for a stronger country. I'm President Felix Nowak and I hope you all have a good day knowing your concerns are being addressed and the government is taking the needed and most decisive initiative. Hail Sona!"

The GMO Safety Testing Facilities (Part1)

Postby The Neo Russ Republic » Mon Jan 25, 2021 11:13 am

14th of October, 1990 CE

>GMO Testing Facilities of Borchungrad, Moscow, Vladivostok and Dolotsk have begun field trials for the safety of GMO crops, specifically wheat with cold resistant genes taken from the native tumbleweed plant. Field trials are the last stage of GMO testing, after they are done the safety of GM crops for human consumption can be proven or disproven depending on the results of the study. If the results prove no health risks the Duma will shortly after take a vote for the legalisation of GMO's, starting in Moscow, Borchungrad and Vladivostok, and eventually expanding to the whole country.

>Many organisations such as "Greenpeace" have come out against GMO's, among a few other ones, claiming that they are harmful to both humans and the environment, but all of them have yet to provide any concrete unbiased proof of such claims. The debate still rages on even in the Duma to some saying that GM crops are "unnatural and go against the gods.", but such arguments have not been able to sway the opinions of the majority of the seats.

10th October 1990

An Undisclosed location in Norsia, Steven Zweigvig steps out of a black limousine, guards step out with him, he enters a building where the Leader of the Social Conservative party Erwin Sjakvig is waiting for him.

As the clock strikes 3pm the meeting begins.

Steven Zweigvig starts the conversation "Erwin, whatever your interest is this must affect both of us we're literally the two most powerful parties in Norsia, whatever you have called me hear for I may not be willing to help you."

"Steven I can assure you this problem concerns both of us, while congratulations on your election victory, your party's hold on Norsia is weakening but not at our hands, Communism is rising in popularity in Norsia, the red workers party now controls 8% of the parliament, and it has been rising over the past 4 elections. eventually if we don't try to stop them now they'll be too powerful for both of us to handle."

"Why should you be concerned if we're weakening in strength? and besides how do you suggest we stop them anyway? the people voted for them silencing the will of the Norsian people will be unacceptable by the constitution."

"you didn't let me finish Steven, I fear if we don't handle them now they'll become too powerful and their voters will be so radicalized that everyone else will lean right and then a polarization effect happens which could lead to civil unrest or at worst, civil war. Don't you see the threat they pose?"

"They're democratic, they strive to achieve their goals through democracy, they don't want to cause civil unrest."

"Well yes but polarization can happen in democracies, and worse who knows when the uwrf would turn their attention to us and perhaps fund their campaign, so I say devote our campaign funding to try to scare the people into not voting for them, if the uwrf get involved then it's not really democratic anymore is it?"

"That is if the uwrf gets *directly* involved emphasis on directly, technically funding the campaign of the Red workers party of Norsia doesn't really infringe on our democracy, but I can see where you're coming from with your concern now Erwin."

"Exactly, who's to say that the communists won't be the next nationalist socialists? They could cause a rift in Norsian society that'll be too big to patch, also if we fall to communism, then we lose all our allies around us, Serkaria and Acusia will mobilize the border, and the rest of Europe will fear a domino effect, if Norsia falls to communism, whats to stop the Balkan federation? Osphen? Italy? They will fear us and our allies will be over half the world away, Communism globally will actively threaten Norsia's independence, we cannot allow it to happen at any cost, we must paint them in a demonizing light, if Communism continues to grow Norsian society and very existence will be under threat."

Steven Zweigvig Nods in approval "I think you may be right Erwin, I think we should attempt to reduce the popularity of the Red workers party the same way we did with the Fascists in the 30s. For Norsia!"

Erwin stands "For Norsia!"

As the clock strikes 3:30 Steven leaves with his guards, as he enters the black limousine his associates turn around and ask him "whats your plan now sir." Steven responds " Hold a board meeting and discuss propaganda poster drafts."

"Against the social conservatives?"

"No against the red workers party."

October 10th, 1990

There's only two months left of 1990, and the new Osphen forged through years of coups, military rule, poverty, and foreign influence is finally emerging. Osphen will be a prosperous democracy, a shining beacon of wealth and freedom in the middle east, an Osphen that cooperates with other nations for mutual benefit, an Osphen that receives as it gives. A trade deal back at the beginning of the year between Osphen and Galaise had given Osphen much needed resources for economic growth to realise the goal of a liberal and democratic Osphen, but to reach this goal, one day, sacrifices would have to be made. Today is that day, and the Economic minister begrudgingly informed the President and the King of the debt Osphen owes Galaise.

"A small price for more fruitful gains." Said the King.

The President agreed.

The minister of defense cringed a little, but offered no real resistance.

OOC: To honour a previous agreement made with Galaise, Osphen will trade 0.9 development points to Galaise

President Robert Lacey signed into today a large bill allowing for the build-up of Amalias infrastructure and production capabilities, taking effect immediately. Minor parts of the bill forwarded the money to agricultural suits to also strengthen them up. However, the main focus was production capabilities as a representative stated in his statement over the passing and signing of the bill. “Our goal with this bill was to bring forwards Amalia’s industry in preparation for the next century and our is that this bill will bring us closer to this goal.”

Some political commentators noted the effects that this would have on the military commenting on the recent events in South Africa and Brazil. Noting that this could lead to the start of a small scale military build-up of which remains to be seen

"This nation has the means to end this war in a definitive and elegant manner, we seek not destruction and conflict but a balance of power and restoration to peace, and it will be done with reason and justice from beginning to end, and the world will be grateful, only then will they see the way to true peace."

"They paint us as if we have lost the democratic traditions this nation was founded on, that can not, is not, further from the truth in this nation, do they not know what we went through? the 30 years of war that was started by men who did not listen to the people? This Republic will weather the storm, we will fight to the death and win, then welcome our enemies into our great state."

André Noir woke up to what he considered to be the best job in the world, or more accurately, out of the world. He unstrapped himself from his sleeping harness and made his way to the so-called kitchen. Really it was more of a food storage area with space for the residents to float around or warm up their food using the ‘cookers’. The food was all preserved and zero gravity did nothing for the taste - whether it was cooked or not, the taste left something to be desired. It made André miss his wife’s cooking, hell, it made him miss the IRSA’s cafeteria food.

He quietly drank from his packet, he could actually eat something, but picking up all the crumbs was so annoying, he tended to reserve solid foods for later meals. Instead, what he came here for was the view. The station was over Europe right now. He could see Galasie. He loved the job, but even he got homesick sometimes. When the next shuttle came up, he would return to Earth and be replaced by another Galasian, Louis Manavian.

André would spend a few weeks in physical therapy, then spend time with his family and love every minute of it. Then he would start to miss this place and count the days until he could return just like how he was now counting the days until he would leave.

Herman Knight, off on the other section of the station, was in a similar situation. He too would be sent home on the next shuttle. Yet it was mainly due to political reasons, a new and upcoming astronaut, Suzanne Hull, would be replacing him. Purely political theater, the first female astronaut from the People’s Confederacy. He would miss it up here. The data, the views, the lack of divisions. But at least he’d be able to see his family, prolly go on tour with the Ministry of Culture, he may lose his job. But he won’t be in want if he played his cards right.

In another section the Serkarian cosmonaut, Vasiliy Boshmakov, floats around idly as he waits for the arrival of the new crew that he’ll be working with for another two months before going back to Earth. He doesn’t mind that Serkarian cosmonauts spend two more months on average in space than everyone else as he doesn’t really have anything to miss back on Earth. Vasiliy enjoys being in space as it gives him the quiet that he enjoys.

Eri affixed the helmet onto the top of their suit, adjusting it ever so slightly until they felt the slight hissing of it pressurizing. This would be her 6th month on the station, but more importantly it was her 23rd repair job. Checking the rungs of her space suit, making sure the tools of the trade were safely secured onto the combination of Velcro strips and clips before stepping into the airlock. It was a simple gig, a small space walk to an antenna, replace it and call it a day. But this antenna just so happened to be at the most isolated part of the station, her own country’s module dedicated to researching plant growth. It was one of the newer ones, and as so it was basically dangling off the base a few dozen meters away.

“Fuck me… Alright, I’m moving out…” She spoke into the open comms, forgetting to censor herself as she latched onto a rail beside the airlock door as it opened up into the pitch black nothingness of space. The door was facing away from earth, so all that laid before her were the distant stars that dotted the endless horizon. Eri maintained a steady grip on the new antenna as she carefully shifted towards the module. In a way it was akin to rock climbing with a harness; right hook, move, left hook, unhook right, move, right hook, unhook left, move. The tandem of movements ensured that there were always at least two points of contact between the astronaut and the station. “Hey station how am I doing so far.” She radioed for an update.

Giovanni fixed himself colazione, the first meal of the day, making sure he had a view out the window of the space station’s kitchen as he did so. The station, now just above Europe, had a brilliant view of Italia, his homeland. He pretended that if he squinted just hard enough, he could even see his hometown, Monte San Pietro, a tiny farm town just outside of Bologna. He had grown up staring out into the heavens above the fields at night, wondering what brilliant frontiers were left out there, yet to be tamed by humanity. He had gotten closer to the stars when he came of age and left his hometown all those years ago, joining the Forza Aerea Reale. Now, after attaining the rank of Colonello in Italy’s Air Force, he had finally gotten the opportunity to ascend even higher into the heavens by joining Italy’s Space Agency. Now, as an official astronaut, he could climb ever closer to the stars.

As he quietly finished preparing his meal, he began to eat. Although liquids were easier to consume, he preferred solid food, occasionally adjusting his chin upward to grab the occasional crumb floating in front of him. The biscotti was just what he needed, though. A light breakfast was not uncommon not only for an Italian astronaut, but for many italians in general. The big meal of the day, pranzo, was to be enjoyed in the early afternoon. Giovanni had been tasked with preparing lunch today. To say he was excited would be an understatement. Yesterday’s main meal, prepared by the Confederate astronaut, Signore Knight, was sub-par, to be moderate about it. The Italian government’s La Agenzia Spaziale had sent the Colonello up with plenty of food rations aboard the Italian shuttle, Gusalli, named in honor of Luigi Gusalli, the world renowned astronautics pioneer who proposed that future spaceships could be powered by solar radiation.

Giovanni looked out beyond the window, catching a glimpse of the African Astronaut scaling the station. She had the fun tasks, being on yet another repair job on the outside of the station. Thankfully, Giovanni hadn’t had been assigned a repair job since the first week he was on board the ship, all of four months ago. His replacement would be coming up next week, marking the end of his service aboard the international space station. His replacement would be a fellow Air Force veteran, Tenente Colonnello Maria Esposito, who would also be serving a four month tour aboard the international space station. For Giovanni, however, it was physical therapy back on earth as soon as he touched down on earth. All the while, it would be back to his desk job at the San Lorenzo Air Force Base in Canosa, Emilia, and enjoying the company of family and friends. While back in the monotony of day to day life, all he could do was gaze back into the heavens, wondering when he could go back up.

Ezra was more of a newcomer , the most junior of all others on board, having only been in the station for nearly a month. That did not impede him though, he was an oddball pick to say the least, but one hoped to be less of an issue for the Ismeili State, being a declared Coptic and descended from Arab parents allowed him a lot of leeway. He did not need to observe months of fasting strictly like his muslim fellows and could focus on more pressing matters of science. Although he did often reminisce about things back home, he enjoyed his new job quite well, away from the drama and trouble, but still serving his country as best he could.

Full name, Ezra Abdul Yasu Pashazada, his varied background allowed him to get along quite well with his crewmates, of which he particularly enjoyed the banter with Giovanni, who like him was also from the Air Force, albeit, of different countries, he spoke french quite well with André and shared many similar experiences with Eri, the other African native onboard, whom right now he was on standby to keep watch on her repair job. Upon receiving the comms, he updated her: ”Halfway there. Keep on going.”

“Wilco.” Eri responded, gradually climbing her way in low gravity to the repair zone. She lamented, somewhat, about her fate if she made a single error in this process, to slowly suffocate in space as she drifted miles away from the station. Whilst her suit did have a MMU module, it was prone to slight malfunctions due to mechanical error like the individual thrusters jamming or accidentally expelling all the fuel at once. But that didn’t bother her as much as the thought of falling endlessly through space. The worst part, other than the aforementioned falling, of space walking is the silence. The only thing to accompany her on this small journey was her own breathing and the occasional beep from her radio, and it got annoying very quickly.

In the rhythm of hooking and unhooking, her mind wandered slightly to back home and how quickly things would change as soon as she arrived. Her comrades on this station, if all creeds, ethnicity and loyalties, would become her adversaries. She’d miss the banter between her and Ezra, the cooking of that Italian fellow and just the calm environment being on the station entailed. Eri let out a slight sigh at the thought, and before long she realized she had arrived at the crucial moment of the journey: The Space Walk. “Okay… no mistakes.” She muttered to herself, positioning in a way that she had her back to the station and facing towards the separate module that needed repairs. “And here… we… go.” On go, she released the latch securing her to the station, which allowed her to briefly free float adjacent to it before engaging the controls to gently propel her forward.

André floated into the control module and greeted Ezra in French. The internationalism of the station made communication a bit difficult at times. French and English were among the most common languages used on the station. “Morning, how are you enjoying the station? Is it everything you thought it would be?”

It took a second for him to notice André, keeping watch of Eri had taken his attention, but he replied politely with a slight quip: “Bonjour André, if we could even say there is a morning here.” snorting at his own joke, he continued. “Oh it’s more than I imagined to be doing, y’know as a kid we always said ‘I’m going to be an astronaut’ but hey here we are an actual astronaut.” In between sentences taking a glance back outside. “Don’t think I’ve ever asked, but what do you think of the station?”

André took a seat next to his crewmate. He took care to check the controls and join him in keeping an eye on Eri. “It is a marvel, technologically and politically. I love being up here and mixing with other cultures, It is cramped and a little scary at times. Be glad you weren’t here when we thought we were venting oxygen. That was an...experience. But we help mankind and have fun while doing it.” He looked at Eri’s vitals. “Though I do not know how much fun Eri is having right this minute.”

He pulled up the radio for a moment. “How are you holding up Eri?” While he waited for a response, he turned back to André, perplexed. “What’s this about oxygen venting? How did that become a thing?” By his tone alone it was obvious he was confused, instinctively checking the controls to see the oxygen supply. ”In this situation, I think anyone would have a scare by even mentioning that.”

André laughed. “Oh, it would be scary. If it actually happened. Turns out the oxygen gauge was broken and constantly going down. It was horrifying while we all thought we were going to die. We thought oxygen was being vented and we couldn’t find it no matter how hard we tried. We ended up going around in suits and they prepared the Unité for an emergency launch to come pick us up. After a while, we finally realized if we were venting this much oxygen, we should have no air left and we figured out the gauge was broken. That’s why we have redundant ones now.” He pointed to the three oxygen gauges in the module.

“Oh, thank goodness. Good thing I heard of this now otherwise I’d never have come.” Whilst he may have seemed to be laughing it off, he did mean what he said. Ezra may have been in the Air Force but he wasn’t much of ‘Space Man’ until now. “Y’know, being the Engineering marvel this is, you’d expect a level of redundancy so that’s why I never asked why there were three gauges. At least, that’s what my pilot experience tells me.” It wasn’t much, but he was briefly a Test Pilot for the Ismeili Air Force. “Speaking of which, anything you can’t wait to do one you get back?”

André shrugged. “As cliche as it may sound, I am excited to see my wife and children. I have been up here for six months and am excited to see them. I was able to arrange so I got to be there for both of my children’s birthdays. Time up here makes you sentimental. As for the three gauges, this one has always had them. The old module was the original one that was for a previous station while this one was being built. We did have alternate ways to check it, but people under pressure do not make the best decisions. In any case, after a few hours, we found our heads and felt like toddlers. I would still take this over a submarine any day.”

“Ah of course, can’t say I blame you, family comes first as always. Can’t say I share the situation though, maybe my younger brothers could compare.” Ezra noted André’s explanation, getting a feel for the history of the station he has heard so much about back home. “I see what you mean, the panic really doesn’t help. Not sure myself about a Submarine, guess you could call this a big space sub, just a little brighter than the ones I’ve been on.”

André nodded and smiled. “Brighter and if it breaks down, you have a chance to escape. A lot of Galasian spacenauts served in the Air Force or as Navy pilots. I am the weirdo because I spent my service as a submariner. Maybe I missed the sky so much in that tub that I decided I never wanted to be away from it and came up here.”
. ,A”
“A Submariner? Here I was expecting some naval comms officer. The technical people you always expect to get these high jobs” Ezra unsubtly making a pun. “In contrast with you, I’ve seen so much of the sky that someone thought I should go a little further. So here I am, a skip away from the moon and crash landing that never arrives on Earth. Really, all they told me about you was that you served in the Navy. Guess they didn’t want to get caught up in the details of it all.”

He smiled at the pun. “I am sure it is something like that. My record was not terribly distinguished. And I got plenty of ribbing during training. I was the lost little sailor who was 20,000 leagues above the sea instead of below it. I am sure you will get along with Manavian, he was a pilot as well.”

Eri felt a small bead of sweat run down the side of her head as the module got closer in range, slowing down gradually as she freely floated across. 9 meters…. 7…. 4… 1! she pitched back on the MMU and came to a complete stop right beside a railing. Without a moment's hesitation she clipped herself back onto the station and sighed in relief, finally able to respond back to station. “Is it a bad time to mention my horrific fear of heights.” She joked, calming down as she continued to move along. “In all seriousness I’m fine, space walking always gave me a minor heart attack, mais ça va. Replacing the antenna shortly.” She finished moving up to the defunct antenna.

“Please save all major breakdowns and medical conditions for when a qualified medical professional can attend to you.” Andre responded. “You are doing great. As silly as it sounds, not thinking too much about it really is the best way to get through it.”

“Would be great to know beforehand, a little heads up helps.” He wasn’t actually annoyed, but he felt he could have been out there instead if she was going to be having ‘minor heart attacks’.

Brazilian Peacekeeping but I post

Postby Carah » Tue Jan 26, 2021 8:18 pm

October 13th 1990
Northern Sector, Parana Tocantins, Brazil

Dyer felt twitchy as he watched the crowd gather around him. He hadn’t had a smoke in a bit, was pushing his current pack further out due to the confiscation of his next ration. Despite that his platoon was ordered to provide additional security for a campaign event. The soldier stood on top of a raised platform, behind him was a microphone and chairs for various speakers. From here he could see the entirety of the crowd.

Hampton gently nudged him slightly, walking beside him whilst scanning the horizon.
“So this is where you’ve been, funny seeing you again.”

“Is this event that important that they need two platoons? Who are these cocksuckers anyways?” Dyer replied.

“Eh some politicians, we’re here to make sure no one tries to kill them. This country, not even a few months ago, was in a civil war. I highly doubt a few world leaders in a stuffy room making a deal for months will quell those ideas, so we gotta step up to make sure no one pulls a fast one.” She takes out a cigarette and lights it, “after all, capitalists looove fucking shit up.”

Syndicalist Party Presidential nominee Augusto Furtado walks up to the podium; “Fellow people, we, the Syndicalists are here for justice and liberty for the workers, poor, and students, the capitalist society has failed the poor and the workers and shall be gone if we achieve the race known as the 1990 election, we shall bring liberty for the common people.” The crowd claps in applause.

Dyer’s eyes turned back to the crowd as Augusto spoke in Scotatrovan. His eyes darted across the crowd, looking for anything out of the ordinary. The crowd cheered and hollered as the speaker spoke. Detailing boring platform plans and drudgery. Reminded Dyer of the soldier council elections back in February.

Bang

A shot rang out, followed by a shout, Dyer couldn’t make it out. He was more focused on the muzzle flash.
“GET DOWN!” Hampton yells with a strained voice as her hand lifts up to aim their service pistol at the assailant. Augusto quickly ducks to dodge the bullet. As UN Peacekeepers train their weapons on the would be assassin but rather than killing him quickly lunged towards them. The assassin flailed his free arm to attempt to break free but a swift butt to the chin knocked him out cold. Hampton held her gut, dropping the pistol and taking a knee.

Dyer meanwhile, turned to the nearby Augusto and tackled him, the force of them both hitting the wooden platform making a resounding thud. Politicans sitting had either jumped off the back of the platform or were standing like sitting ducks.

“Get off the platform!” Dyer called out.

The crowd screamed, some scattered, others ducked. All Dyer could do was wait, listening to the sounds of a nearby struggle. After a brief moment a soldier called out, “Threat subdued.”

Dyer got off the man and helped him back up.

The UASR Peacekeepers slapped zip ties on the assailants hands and began to drag him off as Hampton fell onto her side, clutching a bleeding wound. “M-Medic! I’m hit!” She cried out, fighting back pain as the initial adrenaline wore off and the pain began to set it.

Dyer turned back to Augusto speaking in English, “We need to leave, and get you somewhere secure, follow me.”

Augusto follows Dyer as he is escorted to a nearby SUV and additional security

Dyer pulled out a cigarette, “This shit is FUBAR…”

LFN Outrage at the Annexation of South Africa

Image
Soliders of the Tarazedian peacekeeping mission in South Africa prior to their withdrawal following the annexation.

Furious shouts were heard throughout the LFN council in response to the annexation of South Africa by the state formerly known as the Central African Union. The newly pronounced Union of African Syndicalist Republics was hit by furious condemnation following a fiery day of debate on the communist actions. At the forefront of the outrage was the percieved guarantee that South African independence would be guaranteed given the response of the CAU government to the muslim outrage after the outbreak of hostilities.

Several military experts have now since demanded a second look at the evidence supplied by the CAU authorities, with the leading claim that "things had fallen into place far too perfectly for the C.A.U".

"What we have seen in the span of less than a year, is the eradication of South Africa from the world stage. A nation which had its troubles, absolutely, but a nation nonetheless. What happened over the course of this year was an invasion by a nuclear equipped superpower with the intent on removing any method of armed resistance. The C.A.U destroyed the ability of any new South African state to defend itself by crushing it militarily and then ensuring the disarmament of the military with the rapid introduction of anti-apartheid legaslation. The cultural confusion brought on by this legislation meant that when this referenda occurred, it was not peaceful as the UASR proclaim, but carried out under fear that giving the ‘wrong’ response would illicit an armed attack against the fledgeling state - which it would be unable to resist. The Tarazedian government was wholeheartedly opposed to such a vote even occurring for this very reason. It is a gross perversion of democracy. If this had been a member state of the LFN they would have been evicted from the organisation for the great shame of even daring to proclaim what transpired as a “free vote”. It is clear from the rallying and closing ranks of the communist bloc after both Brazil and now this annexation that they share no such grievances. As such, I call on the leaders of the People's Confederate Councils of Amalia and the Federative Socialist Provinces of Jiangshan to demonstrate democratic integrity and condemn this shameful act of imperialism.”

Extract of the speech given by Director Damion White to the LFN Council shortly before the vote to condemn the U.A.S.R carried unanimously.

Mr. Salvatore Giancarlo, Italian Ambassador to Tarazed, has already confirmed with Roma that Italy will back the Tarazedian condemnation placed on the Union of African Syndicalist Republics following the annexation of South Africa by the U.A.S.R. Joint Resolution #79430, passed this morning by the Italian Senate and the Parliament, authorizes an official condemnation of the U.A.S.R, which will concur with the Tarazedian condemnation, along with other condemnations introduced by fellow members of the League of Free Nations. The Joint Session of the Legislature also passed several measures to set up refugee camps for any individuals seeking sanctuary from communist regimes, with measures to fast track citizenship within Italy currently under discussion. Prime Minister Angela Kovicic, alongside the anti-communist Coalition in Roma spearheaded by the Democrats, have long questioned the legitimacy of the former C.A.U's intervention in South Africa.

Italian Prime Minister Kovicic issued the following comment on behalf of the joint session held by the Italian legislature on the matter "the supposed missile strike in itself that sparked this conflict, which was never even properly investigated by the appropriate authorities, seemed to be the all too perfect occurrence in Mr. Leke's favor. While the old regime’s aparthied policies were very clearly backward, and inappropriate in the context of any nation’s socio-economic and political atmosphere, the spread of the menace that was communism, in the eyes of Roma, was very clearly the incorrect and counterproductive remedy. Yet, it has once again been proven that communism only seems to thrive in environments where violence and chaos are but a mere incident in the normalcy of life. The Italian Government will stand by the free men and women of this good earth against the tread of the communist boot."

In follow up news, the Amalian ambassador to the LFN, Nicholas Henderson, under orders from the Amalian central government, informed the Tarazedian government that Amalia would back the Tarazedians and support them in any further actions that they took against the UASR. It is expected that this will quickly take the form of the Amalians echoing the Tarazedian condemnation against the UASR within a matter of days. The Amalian government had their own reservations about the events that happened almost 1 year ago, however a lack of action on the Amalian governments part left them with no ability to react quickly enough to stop the UASR from succeeding in taking South Africa, so they were left sitting to the side, but now was the chance for that to change, the Amalians and Tarazedians would see to it.
~~ The Amalian representative to the LFN votes, Yes on a joint-plan to condemn the UASR after the actions of the said state in the annexation of South Africa.~~

Galasian Permanent Representative Guillaume Mende also echoed the concerns expressed by other members. “We are extremely concerned about the nature of the swift military action committed by the CAU and the resulting aftermath. We would like a full international investigation into potential crimes committed during and after the war. We have received concerning reports about what has been going on there. We agree that the previous arpartiad regime was reprehensible and have demanded similar examinations in the past. We ask for an open and transparent investigation into the matter, preferably conducted by a neutral body like the United Nations. We also urge our fellow Latin Bloc members to come to a consensus on this and join the LFN in not only a sweeping condemnation of the UASR, but also a general Embargo.”

Tarazedian Senate calls for complete LFN solidarity in facing down the evils of communism.

Daramonty police report a sharp increase in violence against left wing academics, many of whom have now been forced to leave the country.

Tarazedian government expected to announce a full embargo on the U.A.S.R within days in coordination with other Commonwealth nations.

October 15th
Eileanic Broadcasting Company, Wyndham, UK

“Top of the Hour gents, the Reds have done it again. I am your host Robert Green with the nightly news for our wonderful Empire. Our night begins in Africa, with the recent annexation of South Africa by the Central African Union. The Islamic parts of the nation have taken to the street in response to this annexation. Stating the government has failed their community and the promise that they would not annex South Africa. We take you there with our reporter on the scene.”

“Thank Mr. Green,” A female voice replied, “I am in Abjua, Nigeria, a very diverse city. As we can see behind me throngs of people have taken to the street, well into the night. They are protesting outside the state capital, demanding their representatives fight for more independence. Earlier this year calls went out for independence and those calls have only got louder. One speaker earlier declared this the beginning of a cultural genocide in Africa. That the Christian south will use their majority to assimilate and remove Islamic culture from the north. Others have asked the Caliph to get involved and protect muslim rights.”

“Thank you, Victoria,” Robert Green replied, “This is a developing story and you can find interviews online at EBC.com. In other news the Tarazedian Immigration Agency, and the UK Immigration Agency, has reported a refugee crisis as nearly 700,000 Boer individuals have applied for refugee status within the two nations, following the war in Africa. With the recent annexation some experts expect that number to rise to 1.5M before the end of March.”

The screen played a quick transition scene “ELECTION 1990”

“We now turn our attention to Brazil. The devastated area after the Reds invaded the peaceful nation. Per a UN back agreement special elections are being held, after nearly a month of campaigning the results are in. We taking you to the early night with our reporter on the ground.”

“Hello UK,” a male voice called out, “I am in Rio De Janiro, outside the HQ for the UN election services. The election was held yesterday on the 14th but a variety of things have caused the count to be slow. This is the first election with Ranked Choice voting, a method where voters mark the order of preference they have for candidates. Working with the UN has caused a bit of a slow down as the UN has to review and certify with local election officials across the nation. And then there are still infrastructure issues across the nation. Overnight the election officials have been regularly updating a website and making declarations, mostly to reporters, who have been running prints all night.”

“And how has the election been looking overall?”

“This is a very heated election with multiple parties. Of course pre-election the major parties were the Republic Party and the Brazilian Democratic Union Party. But a variety of new parties have taken to the race, using the new system to hope for a miracle.”

“And has a miracle occurred?”

“It might well have, surprisingly the Sonacist party has been able to go through multiple rounds without being eliminated. Perhaps this represents a rejection of both the Communists and the LFN, focusing more on a quote humanity first end quote approach. But it still remains unclear on who will win in each house and the Presidency.”

Camera panned as an individual stepped on stage “Robert, i do believe they are ready to declare the final results.”

A female approached the stage, “Hello I am, Lesly Hébras,” the woman said with a Galasian accent, a Scotatrovan translator repeating her message, “I am the UN official in charge of overseeing this election, I want to begin by stating democracy has won. This election had record turnout in recent history. This election was free from overt corruption. For the Lower House of the Brazilian Legislature, the Republic Party of Brazil has won 42 seats, the Party of Brazilian Democratic Union, 92, the National Reconstruction Party 58, the Sonacist party 96, the Syndicalist Party 192.”

Gasps could be heard as the translator finished.

“For the upper house, Syndicalists 76, Soncists 34, Republic Party of Brazil 38, Brazilian Democratic Union, 30, the National Reconstruction Party 22.”

“Coalizão socialista!” a voice called out

“The President of the 2nd Brazilian Republic is,” Lesly began, “Marcos Brandão Damasceno, of the Brazilian Sonacist Party. He won with the majority of electoral college votes but not the popular vote as per the laws of Brazil.”

“There you have it folks,” the male reporter began, “the Socialists have won….”

EVENT: Islamic Unrest part 4?!

The Muslim community in the UASR has taken to the streets again in response to the annexation of south Africa. Demanding a variety of things such as more equal political power between the two religions, more local independence, and some evening continue the call for outright independence.

AT RISK: Social Cohesion
Unrest could continue and escalate if the federal government does not pay attention to the muslim community.

EVENT: Boer Fleet

The Boer population of south africa is fleeing to Tarazed and the United Kingdom. They have only their current savings, if that, and are hoping to start a new life in the Eilieanic Commonwealth.

AT RISK: Humanitarian concerns
If ignored the Boer population could be forced to return to the UASR or live in poverty within the two nations.

EVENT: Brazilian Election

Lower House
Image
Syndicalists: 192 (40%)
Sonacists: 96 (20%)
Republic party of Brazil 42
Party of Brazilian Democratic Union: 92
National Reconstruction Party: 58

Upper House
Image
Syndicalists: 76
Sonacists: 34
Republic party of Brazil 38
Party of Brazilian Democratic Union: 30
National Reconstruction Party: 22

The election is over with a socialist coalition emerging as the clear victory. Despite this victory the nation is still divided and certain actions could raise unrest even further.

[spoiler=]OOC Notes
The new republic will have the systems Liberal Democracy and Regulated Capitalism. It will be updated when the IC year is over.

Marcos’ (basic) Plans

Brazilian News Headline:
Since the Sonacist Party won the 1990 Brazilian Elections, these plans will go into effect with the New President Marcos Brandão. All of these plans will go as followed within at least 100 days of Marcos’ presidency

-Social Reform for Black minorities
-Aid for people in natural disasters like floods
-Increase of Civil and Political rights
-Increase working conditions
-Increase worker’s rights
-Have Brazil be neutral
-Appeal to the LFN with some capitalistic policy

Brazil will not change their economic characteristics to a Syndicalist one for both appealing purposes to the LFN, for clarification.

Paul II 24th Birthday

Postby The Neo Russ Republic » Wed Jan 27, 2021 4:40 pm

20th of October, 1990 CE

Paul II: ”I am pleased to be here among friends and fellow statesmen. This year has so far been quite pleasant in comparison to the few past ones even if there was some conflict in it and the death of a great empress, Olga II, may her soul reach the Domel plane... But let's not sadden ourselves over a long passed issue and enjoy this feast that we have prepared for today's occasion. Let the party begin!”

”The pleasure is all mine.” Principessa Gabriella Maria Elisabetta exclaimed. She proceeded to hand the Serkarian Tsar a bottle of Giuseppe Quintarelli Amoraone dell Valpolicella Classico, one of Toscana’s finest (and most expensive red wines. ”Boun compleanno a te!”

Paul II: ”Thank you Gabriella I appreciate this gift, I’m sure that it represents the best of Italy.”

I would like to express my government’s, and my own, best wishes to you, your majesty.” Galasian Ambassador to Serkaria, Edmond Tremblay said. “Our nations may not have always agreed, but we wish you the best on this day and hope Serkaria and Galasie can continue to find common ground in the future as we did during the crises of this year. I would like to present you with this.”

Tremblay presented the Tsar with a book. The title of the book was The Major Works of Galasian Enlightenment Philopshers: Serkarian Edition. “It is a popular reading among philosophy fans in Galasie. I know you are a fan of such literature and thought something like this might interest you.”

Paul II: ”Thank you for such a wonderful gift Edmond, I’m sure this book contains many wise and interesting ideas.”

"Your Majesty." Two figures bowed before Paul, one dressed in much decor and wearing a pink veil over her head, the other sharply dressed in a long coat and topped with a crimson fez. "Congratulations on your birthday. Please as a gift from the most esteemed Ismeili State, as daughter of our great nation, we brought you this." It soon became obvious who the figures were, Princess Feriha Ezgi Sultana, Süleyman's only daughter and beside her the Ismeili Ambassador to Serkaria, Recep Pasha. In both their hands, they held a grand portrait, an impression of Paul in the Turkish style of dress and get up, in arabesque style of painting. It nearly stood the size of Feriha herself in size. "I hope this is to your liking."

Paul II: ”I am in awe at the sight of such a beautiful painting, I’ll make sure to hang in the study. Thank you were much princes Feriha and Recep, I appreciate it a lot.”

As Paul wanders the rooms he becomes weary of everyone around him walks out to the balcony for a breath of fresh air. Looking into the distance he thinks about what he has done and will do in the future in an attempt to save Serkaria from its inherent faults. As the storm in his head begins to quiet down the fireworks outside go off as he stands alone looking over the city of Borchungrad.

Deliberations.

2nd of Rebiülahir, 1411
21st of October, 1990

The Kasaba, Grand Assembly of Ismeil. The Senate.

"Senators please! Decorum!" A booming voice sounded across the room. "Senator Abbas, if you would please continue." The Room went quickly silent, the odd murmur sizzling out as the ancient senator sat back on his chair. Across from him was a man, around his 40s, sharply dressed and unmoved by the protests of his fellow senators. He paced about before the room, a many of the eyes that watched him were no more than grognards, bygones of a time long gone. "...As I was saying, Senators, this Bill has been stuck in Senate for months now, the details of the armament program cannot be divulged simply, they are a strict military secret. However I assure you, the measures here are not war measures." The senator, paced back and forth, unraveling a paper that had been folded in his pocket. "'Here upon this Law, the Ministry of War shall henceforth be called by all forward documents as, and only as, the Ministry of Defense Measures. All Documents pertaining to the Ministry of Defense Measures, which are still applicable, will be updated accordingly.' Do you see Senators? This here is a representation to Ismeil's commitment to withholding from being the aggressors. THIS IS NOT A BILL FOR WAR. Rather the Vizier and the Minister are merely being cautious, all of you should understand this, with your extensive experience."

As soon as he finished, whispers began again. Abbas knew he was drawing the ire of his seniors, from İskander's close cirle, he knew exactly what the Law entailed. He wasn't sugarcoating it either, rather he was making a statement of fact. He was as confident about it as he was in İskander. "Senator Abbas." The same booming voice from before. Senator Hasan, he was called, Hasan Muhammed Pasha, a Veteran in every meaning of the word. "Appealing to our age will not gain you favour. Instead of making pleasantries infront of us, I will remind you why this body was creat-"

"Yes, I understand Senator. I don't need a history lesson right now, I need you to approve this Bill that's been sitting on our laps since last year. And I need it now." As requested, Abbas dropped on pleasantries. A little too harshly. "Senator!" To Abbas' dismay, that was indeed the case. "Know your place! This Senate is not beholden to you or the Vizier. Now listen." Hasan motioned for another Senator beside him to rise. Another ancient fossil sitting in a seat of power. It was all for the best right? That's what they said in the party meetings, but Abbas wasn't convinced. "Senator Abbas...." The voice drawled, the aforementioned 'fossil' standing from his chair. "...This Assembly cannot merely approve Bills which it is ignorant of. This...Law...of..." The old senator, pulled up his gold trimmed glasses. "...'Preventive Security Protocols', it cannot pass if you do not explicit exactly what articles five through ten mean. For example..." Abbas was having enough of this already, the man just jabbered on and on about how everything was 'vague' and 'ambiguous'.

They did not understand, because they couldn't understand. That was what Abbas thought. The party was being slowed, becoming rotten and dazed because it was held down. That was what Abbas thought. This was just an excuse, worse laws have passed unscathed, they just wanted glory of it all. That was what Abbas thought. But alas, that was all he could do, think, he could not say, he would not dare say. He was smarter than them than to insult them so simply and bring down what his friend sought out to achieve. "Senators...." He paced around again. Moving about the room, monitoring the reactions of each and every member. "...Ismeil has lead a crusade, a crusade from its very inception. We all know the sacrifices of struggle, it is the principle of our belief to the Lord, we all know the measures that must be taken. Remind me, gentlemen. In half a year, we saw two legitimate governments toppled. Within a month of this year, both have been pushed aside and taken over by forces which would see our way of life undone, our livelihood destroyed, our traditions trampled on, our Caliph murdered! And you wish to squabble over such pressing times? What do you think the world would say of Ismeil when the time of reckoning came an we were unprepared? What do you think the people would say of our government when we failed to protect them? What do you think the faithful would say when the Caliph never came? Is this not a time for preventive measures? Tell me." Abbas finished his speech and the room was still. He could see every senator's reaction, he could see the contorsion of their faces trying to answer the question. He had achieved what he wished with such a speech: doubt.

Soon enough the room erupted into squabble again, the intervention of Hasan was not enough to stop the squabble. Amongst the chaos of voices, it was the Abbas' faction which came out on top. Doubt had lead to conclusions of his benefit. More senators had begun to side with him to approve the Bill. However his tune was interrupted. The Emir of the Senate, Savaş Davul Pasha, stop the entire procession with a smack of his gavel. Few times has the gavel ever fallen so plainly as today. The Emir stood before the quieted Senators. "It brings me shame. Utter shame to see this building become so chaotic. Senators. I ask that you are civil in your discussion, never have I seen such unruly Senate as yours." It felt like a mother scolding her children, though Hasan commanded the room before, now it was Davul who took the stage and ended the squabbling. "Now then, we've heard Senator Abbas' plea, it is time to put the law down. Senators please, make your judgement so we can finally put this discussion to rest."

Thus the chamber deliberated for hours once more. A boring process of review. Standard procedure for all Bills that go through the Senate. Abbas had all but made his case. Within the deliberations no alterations were incurred, no modifications willing to mention, the opposition had been silenced by a wide margin. Victory. Of the best taste. Senator Abbas had difficulty hiding his smile as the Bill finally passed the Senate. Now it was all up to Iskander to implement it effectively, along with all the other proposed laws, which unlike this one, had quickly run through the Grand Assembly. "Your move now....old Friend."

The Liberdade Initiative

The Liberdade Initiative is a program for boosting civil and political rights planned by now President Marcos. Marcos spoke about the Liberdade initiative days before he got elected president. A speech has been given on the start of the program.

"I am now addressing the issue for civil rights and political freedom from the First Brazilian Republic. They had failed to give what was right for the people of Brazil. This initiative shall improve those issues in Brazil, including all minorities like Afro-Brazilians, immigrants, and the homosexual and bisexual communities, rights shall be achieved for the people of Brazil! Viva o povo!"

"Good evening fellow comrades, I am Isabella Bowman with the nightly news. In just a few moments President Kennedy will address the nation, but before then the news."

The screen cuts to soldiers getting off a boat with cheering crowds.

"Our brave soldiers have returned from their deployment with the UN peacekeeping mission in Brazil. Earlier today Private Joseph Dyer was awarded the Black Star for his bravery in defending Presidential nominee Augusto Furtado from an assassin. It is one of the highest rewards an individual can receive in the nation. Here he is with an interview."

Camera cut to Private Dyer his black star medal clearly visible, "I did what i had to do, I heard the shot, the muzzle flash. My job at that moment was to protect the nominee. I tackled the man, using myself as a human shield I guess, to protect him. Luckily the CA- UASR forces were able to quickly subdue the assassin. From there I escorted Augusto to a nearby SUV. My heart goes out to Charlotte Hampton who took a shot during the attack."

"Ahh..." Isabella said as the screen cut back to her, "President Kennedy is ready to address the nation."

the screen cut to the Presidential Palace with a podium in the center. President Kennedy walked out from the Palace and towards the podium.

"I am here today to update the Amalian people on world affairs," the President began, "First I wish to congratulate President Damasceno on his victory and thank the UN for assisting in bring peace to Brazil. I believe together we can work to bring more stability to the world. More importantly as many of you are aware, the League of Free Nations recently condemned the annexation of South Africa by the United African Syndicalist Republics. They claimed that the Boer War was an

Yes, the fledgling nation did not have the military strength it needed. In fact it lacked it so much that when some Boer would not surrender, they did not terrorize the countryside. They did not carve out an ethnostate. No they were put down by the UASR. The UASR was there for them. They were there for them! Them being the people. The millions of Africans that had lived for centuries under racism and imperialism. This referenda was the first time for many, many Africans, to vote. This referenda was a chance to eliminate the borders drawn by imperialists. To reunite tribes long separated. To bring a level of prosperity to the south not seen before. Where is the evidence that these votes were coerced? Where is the evidence that this wasn't a free vote? No, no. There is none. For the reality of the situation is thus: The League of Free Nations is not free. They do not care for democracy. They even say some themselves

If an election were to occur where Syndicalists, socialists, communists were to win in Italy? the UK? Galasie? LFN would not accept it. For they do not care about the will of the people. They will simply declare it not free and God help the workers if such were to occur. To put it simply the workers, the poor, the minorities, of LFN are under attack like usual. They cannot vote or express themselves without the risk of angering the bourgeois. But to the workers of the world, you are not alone. Together we all can create a better world where such selfish views are but a thing of the past."

>Following the relatively recent change of the head of state of Serkaria, Paul II has been trying to improve relations with the neighbouring countries such as Armenia. Serkaria and Armenia have always had somewhat rough relations due to Armenia once being a part of Serkaria before it gained independence as part of the peace treaty at the end of the Great War(WW1). And ever since then they never really improved, in fact they only decreased due to ethnic tensions with Serkaria supporting separatists in the region alongside numerous border disputes, but thankfully those days have long since passed and the nations can move to a brighter future, together.

>The countries have signed a non-aggression pact between the two of them, this treaty ,as stated by Armenia’s minister of the state Mirian Jacobs, will improve the possibility of not only cooperation between the states, but also improve economic opportunities for both sides as they no longer will be afraid of a war happening. While a few were against such agreements from both sides these naysayers didn’t ruin the overall optimism of the people. As said by Paul II, this deal has been in the works since he entered office alongside a few other ones that are yet to come.

Premier's Estate, Kropotkina, UASR
10/27/90
3:30pm

Premier Amelia sighed, looking out onto the crowd of journalists and reporters both foreign and domestic gathered outside the estate gates in front of a podium that sat there for press briefings. With a small vow of confidence from her press secretary, she marched down the steps of the manor, to the scattered flashes from photo-journalists as the gates opened and she stepped up to the podium. Adjusting her tie and looking down at her notes on the podium before looking up to the crowd with a smile. Showtime...

"Good evening, bonsoir, mgbede ọma, goeienaand, habari za jioni, ka a ale and masa' alkhayr... I'll start today with a statement to the international community and to our allies abroad. First, I would like to thank our brave men and women who helped secure law and order as well as peace in the Brazilian Republic. Our brave Task Force 88 were able to provide aid and most importantly protect the life of now President Marcos Brandão. Specialist Charlotte Hampton, more specifically, was injured after an assassination attempt against Mr. Brandão and was in critical conditions, however she is expected to make a full recovery. While This would normally wait until the recipient is present, I would like to announce that to reward Specialist Hampton for her bravery on the field, to award her with the highest honors I can award to a person as Premier of the Union of African Syndicalist States. The Hero of the Syndicalist Union award has been given out 30 times in our nation's history, and most recipients were given posthumously. Specialist Hampton joins the ranks of Prime Minister Aurelia Courtet, General Joseph Foster, and Vice Chairman Nicolas Stern, thank you for your service." She paused, as a guard came to her side and presented the medal to the press for a brief while before walking off.

"Now to more serious matters... As many of you have heard, the UASR has come under criticism and scrutiny by many of our comrades at home. The justified anger by the Islamic community has been heard and I will act accordingly. I have sat down with Grand Imam Taariq al-Azad and I am happy to announce new legislative changes that will go into effect by the end of the year. The first will be the further autonomy of Islamic majority republics, starting with a drastic reduction of central government oversite as to what laws are passed within said republics as long as they do not infringe with the 3rd Amendment, ensuring Freedom of Religious expression. Additionally, we have decided to remove all religious seats to the Trade Unionist Council, and will create a new Council to fill the void: The Religious and Spiritual Council will hold equal power to the Trade Union Council, and will hold the same powers granted to the Union Council, such as vetoing and voting power. The Council will be made up of 20 Catholic Clergymen, 20 Islamic Allamahs, 15 Folk Leaders, and 5 Rabbis. These 60 leaders will ensure that no legislation violates their religious views, and help mend the rift between their communities and the State. Once again, to the Islamic community, my administration apologizes for not upholding the promises held by the late Premier Xavier Leke." She bows her head slightly, allowing a brief moment of silence whilst the camera flashed.

"Secondly... To the international community, specifically the League of Free Nations. First I would like to thank my comrade, President Kennedy of the PCCA, for stepping up and defending us, may our two nations go into the new millennia stronger than ever. Now... To the LFN, I have several things to say. Firstly, the assumption that the Union of South Africa had it's "troubles" is a gross underestimation of what was happening in the nation. Our observers had counted numerous amounts of civil and human right violations committed by the De Viller administration, ranging in the hundreds in terms of UN Violations. These acts were done in secret, away from the eye of the international community, but not away from the eye of the Union. From information given to us by whistleblowers and refugees, we have complied a list of violations which we will freely share to the press after this briefing. Secondly, the claims of coercion by our government to the people of South Africa is not only insulting to the free people of the nation but also impossible for a number of reasons. As stated during the peace treaty which dissolved the De Viller Regime and birthed the SASR, that free and fair elections would be monitored by a non-government organization and by UN Peacekeepers." Amelia coughed into her arm and cleared her throat.

"Third, upon the allegations of mal deeds committed by the United African Military, I would like to first say that not only is the notion that our armed forces would break signed conventions appalling but it is further more an insult to my nation's integrity. Our soldiers executed operations abiding by every law and mandate outlined by the 1950's Geneva Convention... However to quell these rumors and hearsay of bad faith, I open the borders of my nation to international investigators to properly analyze and interview servicemen, generals and locals about our conduct during the war. We will not resist to any such investigation."

"Fourthly, and this one is brief: the Union of African Syndicalist Republics has never, and will never leverage it's possession of nuclear armaments to strong arm nations into it's control or to escalate tensions. Be that as it may, there was nothing preventing the UASR, formerly the CAU, from utilizing nuclear weapons against the former Union of South Africa to prematurely end all conflicts, but doing so would be morally abhorrent. This moral abhorrence, however, has not stopped nations allied within the League of Free Nations to threaten global war which would lead to nuclear destruction. But let us disregard the statements made by a Tarazedian Delegate to get to brass tax. Instead let us speak to solutions. Today, I have asked my UN Ambassador to submit a resolution for the total ban on nuclear testing, and to establish a goal for all nation... The UASR has witnessed the pure destruction of nuclear weapons first hand, and there is no place for such weaponry to exist in a modern era. Therefore, as well as the total ban on nuclear testing, the UASR will propose the "Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons" which would stop participation "in any nuclear weapon activities. These include undertakings not to develop, test, produce, acquire, possess, stockpile, use or threaten to use nuclear weapons." Even if such legislation is not passed in the General Assembly or Security Council, the UASR will lead by example. After today, the UASR will move to decrease it's nuclear stockpile to just under 50 nuclear warheads, and decommissioning our enrichment facilities. We hope that our allies and those of the international community follow us in a nuclear weapon free tomorrow."

"Lastly, to our Boer comrades... You are not your government. We know the crimes committed by the men in power but we give total amnesty to you, the everyday citizen and worker. We ask for your return to South Africa so that we all can build a brighter future, together. You have equal rights to this land as we do... However, if you chose to remain abroad you shall be treated as full citizens and reap the full benefits of being full citizens. Expats will be able to claim their UBI, and social security, which can be claimed by visiting a UASR consulate, whether in person or via phone or mail." She finishes and takes a sip from her glass. "With that all in mind, I will now be taking questions..."

lowering civil rights by one point to appease muslims.
Reducing nuclear program to one program instead of two.
Removing SLBM function of submarines.

L.M.U leaders convene to vote on Embargo

The Latin Monetary Union, in concordance with Tarazedian and expected U.S condemnations of the recent aggression on the part of the Union of African Syndicalist Republics, announced a general embargo to be placed on the communist regime to take effect this week. The embargo serves as an answer to the U.A.S.R’s annexation of South Africa, after the former Central African Union launched a second invasion of the nation with the accusation of the former regime being responsible for a missile strike in the C.A.U’s territories. The L.M.U’s embargo will halt trade between the U.A.S.R and the Latin Bloc, effectively cutting the U.A.S.R off from trading in the majority of Western and Southern Europe’s markets. The L.M.U has not handed down a date for which the embargo will be suspended and trade be allowed to resume between the U.A.S.R and Latin Europe, but an Italian spokesperson for the L.M.U commented that the embargo may not be lifted anytime soon.

While the Latin community, comprised of Galasie, Italy, Scotatrova, and Osphen, had never been sympathetic to the old regime that had ruled South Africa, the L.M.U’s member states had been opposed to the creation of a communist regime in it’s place. Many in both the Latin Union and the League of Free Nations as a whole, in fact, advocated for the setting up of a liberal democracy in the place of the old regime. These aspirations were dashed, however, as the C.A.U promptly empowered a communist regime, spreading the ideology further through the continent. Even worse, the new regime barely survived it’s infancy, being consumed whole by the Central African Union before the C.A.U was reorganized into the Union of African Syndicalist Republics. The U.A.S.R, under the new leadership of Premier Armstrong, denies wrongdoing of any caliber, and has even earned it the praise of fellow communist regimes elsewhere in the world, despite the ongoing humanitarian crisis the conflict has created, as an untold number of South Africans flee the newly annexed nation to the free world, most of whom heading straight for Tarazed.

The embargo, as imposing as it may be, has not gone unanswered, however. On the homefront, several hundred communist party members and sympathizers protested outside the headquarters of the Latin Monetary Union in Firenze yesterday afternoon while the embargo was being organized by L.M.U leaders. Protests similar in nature and scale were also staged in Torino, Roma, as well as Napoli; and while a fifth protest was staged in Messina, it was violently cut short after a car bomb was detonated in the street, sending debris and shrapnel into the crowd of communist party members and sympathizers. Though no one was killed in the incident, several dozen communists were hurt in the explosion, and local police currently suspect the mafia as being responsible for the bombing. The incident is the second major incident to occur in Sicilia this year, as the ongoing feud between the Italian Communist Party and the Sicilian Mafia violently heats up.

In a joint session of congress in Amalia President Robert Lacey took to the stand giving a speech to the wider world “Amalia is outraged at the naked aggression and greed of the USAR. It condemns the occupation and forceful annexation of South Africa. It will in no way, shape, or form support the USAR and therefore will cut off trade to the nation until it frees and withdraws from South Africa.” Lacey said in a speech to a joint session of the Amaila congress. The speech ended with the President saying his disappointment in the USAR for its actions and that they would once again join with the LFN in embargoing the USAR for the time being, making a note that Amaila would work with the other member nations in the UWRF-IWEC, to build a more peaceful planet.

9th October, 1990
New Cuir City, United States of Amalia

The horns of the HMS Empress of Sagaria blared loud and proud as it steamed into New Cuir Harbor, the ancient standard of Brunay-Bonbry snapping gently in the wind as it passed by the revered Statue of Liberty, looking queerly at these foreign ships from the old world, not carrying the hungry, the poor nor the huddled masses. Rather, Her Royal Majesty, Gloriana III Brunay-Bonbry, Queen of Great Eilean Strathland, and Empress of Sagaria…

As the Empress of Sagaria made its way into port carrying Gloriana the III, just some short distance from the docks and the ramp for the ship to its passengers to get off the Amailian delegation waited inside the center of a large convoy of SUV and cars for the Queen to step off the Carrier and then to exit and greet Gloriana before they would all head into the city proper and began to discuss a number of things, the biggest was the Eileanic Commonwealth. While Amailia was indeed not part of the Commonwealth, the idea of it had been floated around within the halls of the Amailia government as an idea to strengthen Amailia and her allies’ standings in the world against the UWRF-IWEC

The Royal Navy cruisers broke off from the Super Aircraft Carrier, as it slowly pulled into port at Queenshythe wharf, built for upwards to two massive Ocean Liners, only for the Empress of Sagaria to slip in with a tight fit, not a proper wharf for the pride of the Eileanic Royal Navy but nonetheless it would have to do for the time being.

From the bow, Gloriana II looked across the sleek New Cuir cityscape which absolutely dwarfed old, grey Wyndham with its castles, palaces and fortifications. Though then again, the art-deco and modern air of NCC was fresh compared to how stale life in Eilean was. Looking down at the wharf, she smiled and waved to the countless hundreds of Amalians who were intrigued to see her, to them an old world oddity, divinely appointed and blessed to rule over countless millions of lives…

Come on now Cabbage, we don’t want to leave the Amalians waiting for us.” William snickered from behind his wife, looking over the rails and furrowing his brow. “Hmm, I’d say we got a large crowd in Hocain…” he muttered.
That’s because we arrived late. If you hadn’t held us up in Strathland with your hunting, we may have a larger audience.” she laughed at the Prince-Consort, turning around and walking past him, a grumble and sigh emanating from him as he followed her.

Moments later, the Queen and Prince-Consort descended down the gangway, continuing the smiling and waving as they neared the Amalian delegation, the Royal Marine band aboard the ship played the Royal Salute before going right into God Save the Queen, right as Gloriana set foot upon the wharf.
As the Queen and her group walked up to the Amalian delegation the head of the three-person group gave a small bow to the Queen addressing her as “Your Majesty” before facing the Prince-Consort and addressing him as “Your Highness, Let me be the first to welcome you to Amalia and thank you for taking the time to stop here as you tour your great commonwealth.”

Thank you so kindly” Gloriana smiled with her husband at her side. “We are honoured to be in the United States once again.” she continued, looking at the NCC skyline again, then back to the crowds.
You never told me what was the schedule again for this trip, cabbage…” the Prince-Consort muttered to his wife.
If you were to listen more often maybe you would have known.” the Queen whispered back.

The Amalian delegation lead Micheal spook again, “We will start with taking to you while you are staying here, so avoid staying on the HMS Empress of Sagaria. Then we will follow that with the first of the diplomatic meeting while you enjoy New Cuir City.”

Well, we musn’t keep the Amalian people waiting now, should we[i]?” Gloriana smiled, hands clasped at her waist, purse in hand. “[i]Not that hard, play with a bit of string and they’ll go mad…” William muttered softly in her ear, only to earn a scowl from the Sovereign as an officer from the Empress of Sagaria walked up from behind her.
There is a situation that requires an urgent response, ma’am…” he whispered to the Queen-Empress, who frowned for a moment before smiling again to keep up the act for the Amalian delegation.

Douglaston Hotel, New Cuir City, United States of Amalia

Three, Two, One…

A MESSAGE FROM HER MAJESTY, THE QUEEN

The broadcast fades in slowly, Gloriana sitting at a desk in her suite at the Douglaston Hotel, dressed still in her finest after a ball. She places her pen down, smiles motherly and proceeds to face the camera.

It is within human nature to be nomadic and wish to see the world. Or to seek greater prosperity and liberty, such is what brought millions of people to New Cuir City over the past century to find a better life from the old world. Such is the case now, with the millions of Boers fleeing South Africa for the Commonwealth…” the Queen paused, taking a breath.

As Sovereign of the Eileanic Empire, and Head of the Commonwealth, we shall hereby use our Royal prerogative to grant citizenship to these refugees and immigrants who seek to return to their native shores of Great Eilean, and shall command our Royal Government to act accordingly, to ease their suffering and making their new lives easier.” Gloriana continued, before placing her hand on the desk again.

“May God bless you all, and keep you safe within these times.

The camera faded to black, followed by the customary sign off of the Queen.

"Today, delegations from the Latin Monetary Union and League of Free Nations met with representatives from the governments of Jordan and Iraq in Baghdad. These were the final steps in the negotiations between the parties to create closer ties between the nations and organizations involved. A non-aggression pact will be signed between the LFN and Jordan and Iraq as the first step to closer ties between the involved. Sources from within the LFN say they are hopeful that this is merely the first step in closer relations with the two nations and that closer ties will lead to more peace in the Middle East and Mediterranean.

"The LMU delegation also signed an agreement to reduce tariffs between the LMU and Iraq and Jordan. The landmark deal will see all goods between the four and two nations be subject to much smaller tariffs. Galasian Delegate Louis Bureau called it a placeholder for what the LMU hopes will be a full free trade agreement with the two nations in the near future.

"Foreign Affairs Minister Frédéric Klinkert deliever remarks on the matter. The Minister noted that now all nations on the Mediterranean Sea were now friendly with one another. He further stated the he hopes 'this is the first step toward a close and friendly Mediterranean Community where all nations on the sea can work together to deal with matters that impact the entire region like invasive species, overfishing and pollution. The more integrated we are, the more we can come together to solve problems that affect all of us. I know some fear this is a move by the LFN to dominate the region, but our goals are far more benign. We are seeking deeper economic ties so that the Mediterranean can prosper in the future.'

"The new agreements and speech drew broad support. Rémy Le Goff praised the speech and its focus on environmental matters that are deeply concerning to his party. Radical Leader Gilles Martin also said the move was a step in the right direction. Hervé Roussel of the National Alliance and Moderate Group leader Ève Charpentier both called the move a step in the right direction, Though both felt the government should be moving quicker. Charpentier stated that she would have gone straight to a Free Trade Agreement and Defensive Pact with the nations. Charpentier is only in her second week of leadership of the Moderates after defeating Mayor Cédric Delacroix for the top spot. She is already making waves, actively criticizing the government and even forming her own shadow government as she tries to get the Moderate Group's poll numbers up after they took a big fall from the death of Raymond Jourdain, the previous Moderate Leader."

November 1st, 1990: Birthday for the President

Postby Neo Rome Republic » Mon Feb 01, 2021 8:54 pm

The Peoples' Issue

As President Felix Nowak celebrates his 45th birthday. The cities are filled with parades and celebrations. The streets run with the flag of patriotic men and supporters, the government is pleased as budget progress and impeding economic and structural reform continues. Commencing with the annual National Tank Biathlon, where the nation's 9 constituent heartland and folk republics compete against one another with a tank team in a game similar to biathlon. Utilizing the complex training of tank crews including their rough terrain passing skills combined with the ability to provide accurate and rapid fire while performing maneuvers. The President had this to say on the celebration: "Thank you for the warm welcome and celebration, I must say I am quite honored to be afforded this great parade and to have our annual tank biathlon commence on the same day as well, it certainly humbles a man and motivates the soldier in him. The soldier in him being the will to keep fighting and keeping the nation strong. Our will as strong and determined as the tanks in our biathlons, an example of overall military strength, and even more, our potential. The structural and military reforms continue as planned. The nation stands strong and the year remains favorable to the future. I am honored to meet it head on. Especially on a personal day as this. As the year approaches closer to the end, I become ever more reflective of all this nation has been through all. All the fighting and conflict it took for the peoples to form one nation, for the nations of our nation to form this great supernation. Held together not by blood or soil, but by a spirit, a stance for a universal ideal. In selfless devotion. The Polish here in the headland and all others, all our great peoples finding themselves in this act of this self giving. Finding themselves as one universal nation, the Intermarian nation. The people of this great country. And on this day of my birth, I too feel I have found myself more than ever on this time in office, in this great self giving for a cause beyond myself. It is in this spirit and the stance we take for it, for the soul of humanity and the stance we unite in taking for it. That we become greater men, not just mere people, but humanity embodied. The greatest qualities of mankind awakened and realized in this universal consciousness. This nation of devotion and giving, of self sacrifice and duty. We must awaken that again and give ourselves to the world. Soon my people, we shall do just that, we shall become strong for our sake, and once again, most of all, for the sake of mankind itself. For the greater good we honor this day, I honor this day, and dedicate this project to that cause. Thank you for this momentous occasion, I am honored to lead you and will continue to do so to the best of my ability. Thank you for your time and enjoy the festivities my fellow Intermarians. Hail Sona!"
