"Good evening fellow comrades, I am Isabella Bowman with the nightly news. President Kennedy has officially congratulated Prime Minister Armstrong for winning the election in the Central African Union, stating,"

Screen transitions to President Kennedy at a press conference earlier today,

'I believe her lead will be as successful as Prime Minister Leke's was. I look forward to working with her in our ever threatened position of preserving freedom.'

Screen cuts back to Bowman,

In the city of Brasília, the capital of Brazil, the workers have risen up against the corrupt bourgeois that has stolen their wealth from the workers. While it remains unclear on the strength and position the workers are in, President Kennedy has stated that he is once again amazed that for a 2nd time this year workers have risen up. As the government learns more about this ongoing conflict more will be reported."

The right of life

23th of June, 1990 CE

>After a murderer in the city of Novakoval was sentenced to Bura's judgement and died of hyperthermia on the 31st of December, the first capital punishment since 1935 when a series of revolutionaries were executed, people have been arguing about whether or not capital punishment should be outlawed for being too harsh and dehumanising. The main parties in favour of outlawing it are the Burist party and the Nihilists which say that if the constitution states that every citizen has a right to live then therefore it shouldn't be illegal to execute them.

>But the majority of the Perunist and National-Sonacist Movement Party say that that right only belongs to the monarch and landowners and since everyone who had been executed didn't own any it was legal and within reason to do so. The vote will be held on the 31st of June, but for now as it remains lives of hundreds people could depend on whether or not it will remain legal or not and the only thing we can do now is hope that the politicians vote right.

"Arascidian - Japanese trade deal and other geopolitical projects"
June 24, 1990

Iranian ties with the Japanese Empire have expanded in recent years due to both states culturally having a monarchy that has been extended for thousands of years. There is a sense in both countries to wants to further establish relations due to the uniqueness of both states being categorized as civilization states.

Iranians in recent due to their worldviews being opened have embarked on the journey of opening tourism sectors to Japanese visitors. Japanese visitors have also increasingly sought to come to Isfahan in order to visit Manichean holy sites. With the emergence of Manichaeism in Japan, the Iranians are more likely to allow more beneficial trade deals to occur with the Japanese.

A million Japanese have converted to Manichaeism.

The Iranians have increased efforts to ramp up industrialization with Japan in hopes that Japan can join the Isfahan pact.

For now, the Isfahan pact has only allowed the Japanese to enter the economic organization of the Isfahan Pact.

Negotiations and votes need to be conducted in order for the Japanese to enter the military side of the pact.

There have been three preconditions for Japan joining. First Japan has to give up aggressive expansion against its immediate neighbors and cease all imperialist efforts as the Isfahan pact is a pact of friendly non-imperializing powers that wants global stability and peace for all nations of the world. Second, the Japanese government has to converse with the others in the Isfahan pact before committing into any unilateral foriegn directives. Thirdly its navy needs to have direct communication channels with the state of Serkaria before moving them across the pacific.

The idea of this pact is to create an economic corridor of the Isfahan pact into Northeast Asia. It will benefit both sides as Japan will use the raw resources of the Isfahan pact and allow itself to become a manufacturing power in Northeast Asia.

For more on this edition of the Isfahan Sun.

>After a week of arguing the politicians have finally gathered for the vote. After the results appear a sigh of relieve goes over the country as capital punishment, and Bura’s judgment by extent, have been outlawed.

All criminals that were sentenced to death are now sentenced for life in prison and as for those whose relatives were executed unfairly many years or centuries ago monuments will be put up to commemorate them.

>People such as Meserdin Popov have been rejoicing in the fact that Serkaria has, like many other western democracies, outlawed the death sentence and while the Perunists start to bicker with each other over who voted for it to be outlawed the Burists and Nihilists collectively celebrate this sign of progress.

Many progressives in Serkaria have taken this as an indication that the government is willing to move forward and many of them have already started proposing progressive bills in hopes of getting one passed or at the very least raising awareness of issues.

Revolutionary forces organize more and prepare to raid the main Brazilian government in Brasília

June 31st, 1990

Revolutionary forces organize more and start to prepare their arms for storming the main government building in Brasília, some armored cars were stolen by some revolutionaries from police barracks, and run some officers over.

The revolutionary forces go in for a barricade near the Brazilian government building, being confronted by some officers, they shoot at the officers, and some even threw Molotovs at the officers. Some government officials say that the government is getting “too weak” to deal with the revolutionary forces unless they come up with a better plan to take care of the revolutionary forces.

The situation is now seeming to come to a close soon in the revolutionaries’ favor, unless the government makes a new plan to put down the revolution.

The Enlargement of the Isfahan Military Organization.
31st May 1990

Today, we welcome the entrance of the state of Japan into our military organization. The Isfahan Pact consists of seven sovereign member states. The process of joining the alliance is governed by the articles of the Isfahan military organization treaty which allows only for the invitation of non-imperializing nations, Eurasian states, and all regimes that fight to preserve their own sovereignty.

After the formation of the pact in the 1900s led by the state of Arascid and other founding members of the Isfahan Pact, the Isfahan pact has grown to include the Intermarium and the sovereign German state.

In the initial years of the 1990s, there were concerns in Japan that called for the joining of a prestigious military organization. The empire of Japan has thus decided to side with civilization states which mirrors their interests. Both the states of Japan and Arascid decided to support the bid of the Japanese in order to join the pact after both sides have understood the intentions of the two sides.

All nations within the Isfahan pact welcomed the entrance of the Empire of Japan as all members unanimously voted in favor of the entrance of Japan into the pact.

Despite both sides having reached agreements, there are still concerns that fascistic influences might rise out of the ashes. In order to resolve these concerns that troubles the founding members of the Isfahan pact the sovereign states demanded that Japan come to an agreement with the founding states in order to reach a consensus.

The consensus made between the state of Japan and the Arsacid Empire contains the following:

Japan has to notify all members of the Isfahan pact about its naval movements.
Japan ceases all and any potential aggressive activities in the Pacific.
Russia must be informed before Japan can conduct any foreign policy decisions that concern its interests.

In order for this consensus to be carried out, the Isfahan pact members will also send ambassadors and non-governmental organizations to survey all aspects of civic society in the state of Japan.

By enacting legislations and passing articles on these consensuses within the Isfahan pact the founding members hope to increase the ability of the Isfahan pact to expand geopolitical power as well as to build a Northeast Asian economic and security apparatus.

Eurasia will be safer with the entrance of Japan and Japan can utilize the entire hinterland of the founding members of the Isfahan pact.
There are also many efforts that are taking place for Japan to upgrade naval sectors of the economy and army from Isfahan members.

Japan is also engaging in efforts to build eyes in the pacific with the help of the Isfahan pact members.

Report on the international North-South Transport Corridor

Postby The Neo Russ Republic » Fri Dec 25, 2020 3:12 pm

6th of July, 1990 CE

The International North-South transport corridor has begun in recent months. This infrastructure project is a 7,200km long multi structure and mode network consisting of ships, rail and road route for moving freight transport between Iran, Iranian Azerbaijan and Sekaria. The objective of the construction of such a transport corridor is in hopes to increase trade connectivity between these major cities such as Moscow, Tehran and cities in Azerbaijan.

Image

There are hopes that Russia and China can invite India and China on to the tables to create co-prosperity in the 21st Century.

These infrastructure projects are in hopes that all countries in the Isfahan pact can become more connected over time in a globalizing trading system. This would facilitate the creation of an international transport and transit corridor for goods between Central Asia, Europe and the Persian gulf.

Political commentators from the Arsacid Empire (Iran) and the Serkarian (Russian) Empire have made remarks on the issue.

They contain excitement for businesses and state enterprises in the creation of a mutually beneficial project.

Mikhail Ramashinskiy, Serkaria’s minister of trade, has spoken multiple times in favour of such a project before, but it never managed to get any traction previously due to financing issues. Now that the Serkarian government has resolved its budget leak it can invest in such long term projects with no immediate payoff.

Paul II hopes that such a project could lead to a reinvigoration of the recently stagnating Serkarian economy by providing new jobs, investment opportunities and more profitable trade roots.

The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arascid Empire, Chnaertei Lisjeti have also made several comments on the issue.

She referred to the project and the initiative as a “Great step forward for humanity and the Isfahan pact members.”

These efforts to be stated as efforts of limited autarky according to some xenophobic opinions within the economists who studies the common market of the Isfahan pact.

The Iranian-Russian relationship since the beginning of the 1900s have been beneficial to the peoples of both nations and it will continue to be so given intensified cooperation between the two sides.

Eurasian co-prosperity will continue to be maintained and its security will be amplified with the increased expenditure on crucial infrastructure which keeps logistics for both nations relatively secured.

Many view Serkaria’s continued isolation and partial autarky as the reason for the stagnation of both the economic and social spheres and while it may be partially true it doesn’t mean that it can’t work on a larger scale such as the Isfahan pact.

The Storming of the Main Brazilian Government Building/“The Fortaleza” in Brasília

July 6th, 1990 (and July, 7th, 1990)

Revolutionary forces start to gather from the barricades close to the Main Government Building (nicknamed: The Fortaleza), police and some military forces try to flank back the revolutionary forces from the government building, despite the effort of the police and the military forces, the revolutionary forces forces the police and military forces to retreat, the revolutionary forces break into the government building and stormed it, after some clashing with some national guard forces, the revolutionary forces occupy the whole building and execute the president of Brazil, Samuel Góes.

A new revolutionary government has been established and declared in Brazil, known as the “Governo Popular” (translation; People’s Government), plus a new army known as the “ Exército Vermelho Popular” (translation: People’s Red Army). The new leader of Brazil has been declared to be Chairman Caio Álvares, the main leader of the revolutionary forces. The day that the revolution was done in the revolutionaries’ favor would be known as Fortaleza Day. A ceremony has been held the day after, and Caio Álvares gave a rousing speech that will symbolize the new People’s Council Republic of Brazil.

“The people may never be oppressed ever after the corrupt regime fell under our control, the workers shall be free from their wealth being taken to companies of the corrupt bourgeoisie, the new republic shall stand for as long as the spirit of revolution is upon Brazil, long live the revolutionary spirit! Hail the new Council Republic!”

The crowds cheer for a corrupt government is no longer existent, the internationale in Portuguese blasts in the background from speakers, the crowd celebrates the new republic’s foundation yesterday, the crowd chants “Hail the new Republic!”

The republic would change Brazilian politics for years to come.

July 8, 1990
Veraveux, Galasie
Victory Day

For many years, the 8th of July was a day of remembrance and mourning for the end of the Great War. The very first celebration was on the day itself, July 8, 1920 where people paraded through the streets for days to celebrate the war’s end. For its first few years afterward, it was a day of mourning the dead. Then it became a day of celebrating victory, while still honoring the sacrifices of the fallen. When relations between Galasie and Acuisia began to thaw, the celebration was solely phased out in favor of the sober mood of the earlier anniversaries. Much of the pomp was instead placed on the later National Day celebrations. Now that relations with Acuisia had soured and the 70th anniversary of the war was nearing, a large celebration was decided on by the Galasian government.

However, a practical problem remained on how to distinguish this parade from the later (and older) National Day parade that was to be held on July 18th. Considered to be the National Holiday of Galasie, all Galasian governments loathed to cancel or hamper the holiday. Even the governments of the National Alliance held the celebration during protests and riots that characterized the late seventies. Though this would not hamper the National Day festivities, there was a fear that an earlier celebration would detract from the uniqueness of the later day. Simply put, the Galasian governments used the latter festival as a massive propaganda day to push their messages about unity and the future of the world. Anything that would threaten the pomp and uniqueness of that day was pushed aside. Regardless of how well founded those fears were, the fact remained that the leadership believed it to be true, and that was enough for there to be a problem.

The Blanquer cabinet eventually divided themselves between two proposals. The first was a purely civilian affair. Where soldiers and tanks would parade through Veraveux on National Day, workers and children would do so on Victory Day. It was a symbol of the future peace won by the death and destruction of the war. A way to celebrate the war without celebrating the militarism that comes with it. This proposal was championed by Environmental Minister Rémy Le Goff and Education Minister Jaques Barras and supported by the more dovish members of the cabinet.

The second proposal was envisioned by Defense Minister Henri Aliette as a historical reenactment of the celebrations from 1920. It would be a military parade with all the soldiers wearing replica horizon blue uniforms from the war and carrying similar weapons and regimental standards. Each unit would have veterans from that unit marching alongside the formation. If possible, vehicles, planes and other equipment from that era would also be used. It would also allow the Bastille Day parade to stand out as a showcase of how far Galasie had come in the seventy years since the end of the Great War, with the modern equipment being even more impressive compared to the antiques of five decades ago.

Eventually a compromise proposal by Culture and Communication Minister André Kahn was adopted. A military parade would be held, but at the front of the parade would be military veterans from the Great War onward. All of them would be provided with replicas of the uniforms in service during their service. Following them would be a small selection of current military members dressed in replica horizon blue uniforms from the war and carrying matching military standards. Following them would be the children and grandchildren of those killed in the Great War, wearing the uniforms of their professions and schools to symbolize the future won by the Great War. No vehicles or planes would be driven, flown or towed along the route, instead the various museums in the capital would prominently display these vehicles in and around their buildings for visitors to see.

The protracted arguments around the parade actually made the compromise plan easier to implement. Both sides had laid significant groundwork for their own plans in a bid to outmaneuver the other camp. The Education and Labor ministries had contacted a number of Great War veteran families to find willing participants for their parade. Aliette had also directed his own ministry to purchase the uniforms for his parade. Therefore, despite only having a few months to prepare, the parade was smoothly conducted with only minor mishaps, ending at the Place de la Révolution, as usual. However, this time, seats were provided for the veterans, workers and children to sit for the speech. The soldiers would remain standing.

Another departure from the National Day parade was the speeches. Traditionally no speeches were made during the parade. Here, a single speech would be made by Chef d’État Jean Vernier. The sixty-three year old took his place on a temporary stage constructed for this purpose. He was alone on the stage, watched by the thousands assembled before him and cameras broadcasting to millions of Galasians at home.

“My fellow citizens, I bid you welcome and to remain seated after your long march. To the soldiers assembled here, I am sorry, but you must weather this for just a while longer.

“I requested to speak before you to express my deepest thanks to all of you today, but especially to those who fought in the Great War and those whose fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers and more did not return.

“The War is always a hard time for my family as I am sure many of you know. On this day, seventy years ago, my grandfather Baudouin was Chef and nine years before that, when the war started, no one was because his cousin Georges was assassinated on Galasian soil in an act of terrorism. My great-grandfather was old when he had my grandfather and very busy, so cousin Georges often cared for little Baudoun, his p'tit gars (little guy) who thought the world of his cousin. My grandfather was devastated when he heard what happened to Georges. He broke down crying. He did not leave his rooms for three days.

“When he finally emerged from the room, he was angry. He wanted revenge. Against the man that killed his cousin, the people that planned the assassination, and Acuisia for aiding and abetting these men. He wanted to rejoin the army and march into war right that minute if the people who killed his cousin weren’t brought to justice. My grandmother and mother had to spend hours begging him to stay before he calmed down. And I know my grandfather was not alone, for all of Galasie was up in arms over the assianation. From the halls of the assembly to the streets of Veraveux to the smallest canton.

“I think it was this day, seventy-nine years ago, that my grandfather was told by his father that he would become Chef. I remember this story well because of how my grandfather told it. He rarely fought with his father, but that time...that time, grandfather screamed and yelled at his father. And great-grandfather Charles stood there and took it. He let my grandfather scream and rant until he was blue in the face and his voice was hoarse. Then Charles said the words that convinced my father to do it, “Georges wanted you to succeed him.’ Those words broke any resistance my grandfather had. He agreed and a week later, he was confirmed as Chef d’État of the Grand Republic of Galasie and ten days after that, he would preside over the most destructive war in European history.

“My grandfather always had such mixed feelings about the war. On the one hand, they had to bring the killers to justice, not just for our family’s sake, but for Galasie as well. I think Emmanuel Lhéritier said it best when he spoke of the war in his memoirs. Allow me to read the section to you, “Galasie had been slapped and slapped hard. Galasie had to slap back even harder or it was done as a nation of any reputation. Therefore, if Acuisia failed to hand over the assassins, Galasie would deliver a harsh retribution that the rest of the world would learn not to cross us.’

“And that was what we did for nine long years. We did not take land, we did not take colonies, we bled them for it almost as badly as we bled ourselves. And that is what always troubled my grandfather. He thought he was a coward, even if he was almost forty, he wanted to fight. Especially when he thought of the rest of the family. The Nicolaï family sent eleven sons into that war. They did not take staff positions far from the front, they served on the front lines, even using fake names when they were barred from serving. Of those eleven, five crawled out of the trenches: one without a leg, another never slept without nightmares and tried to take his life three times before he finally succeeded, a third never smiled or cried again.

“I want to thank all of you sitting before me today, veterans of the Great War and other wars. For the horrors you faced in the name of Galasie and for the justice you brought to my family seventy years ago. For those who are resting in their graves, both here and in far-flung lands, thank you. For those who lost fathers, husbands, sons and brothers, thank you. We have never forgotten what you did for us. I thank you, my grandfather thanks you, my family thanks you, Galasie thanks you.”

Chef d’État Jean Vernier descended from the podium and proceeded to shake hands with each of the thousands of marchers. Long after the cameras left, long after his guard had given up on trying to convince him to leave, long after the sun had set. It took him hours, but he stayed until he shook hands with every marcher who was willing to take the hand.

July 10th, 1990
IWEC HQ, Central City, Central African Union

Ambassador Carolyn smiled, this year has been surprisingly good. So much change in so little time, perhaps this decade might be the beginning of a new revolutionary period in human history. Yet in the meantime all she could do is sign trade agreements.

Prime Minister Amelia Armstrong entered the room with a slowed pace, examining every inch of the room as she was followed by her newly appointed ambassador, Joseph Clement;

Ambassador Carolyn stood up and reached out her hand saying, “Congratulations on your victory Prime Minister, may we continue to find success for workers here,” The Prime Minister smiled and shook her hand back,

“Please, my victory was guaranteed thanks to the efforts of your government during the Boer War, but I am merely here to watch as this is my first IWEC meeting. My ambassador Clements will be speaking on behalf of the CAU.” Joseph came forward to shake her hand as well,

“Joseph Clements, former military liaison for the Central African Armed Forces. A pleasure.” His tone was cold and calculated, a stark contrast to his Premier.

Carolyn shook his hand, “As Ambassador of the CAU you hold the office of President of the Supreme Council until 1992, so you shall start us off today, President Clements.”

“Yes let us begin,” he took a seat and exchanged some documents to all those seated at the table. “The topic of this will be in regards to the Socialist Union of South East Asia, and establishing a preferred trade agreement with them to further our efforts in bringing it potentially into the IWEC, and as it is appropriate we’ll also be discussing a similar trade effort in South Africa. The CAU has already agreed to a trade deal that would include the exporting of 10 million units of iron ore into the country, but we leave it open for the PCCA to determine what it would like to exchange.”

“Yes, I have heard that the Labour council was working on negotiations with the Union,” Carolyn stated, “The oil workers successfully lobbied to export 7 units of natural gas to them. As such we approve of decreasing tariffs and trade barriers with the Socialist Union."

“The Council decided during its last meeting that we would be happy to export 7.25 units of oil to SUSEA” stated Pablo Escobar.

“Alright,” Carolyn stated, “With that the trade agreement passes.”

“Perfect, now with that over we’ll also discuss a similar deal with the South African Socialist Republic, if I am correct the PCCA has already agreed to a exporting of 9 units of natural gas; likeso the Union has agreed to export 10 units of crude oil to the SASR. Does that sound all in order? Anything to add Mr. Escobar?” He placed the files back into his folder and turned to face him.

“The Council agreed to export 3 units of Iron to SASR” responded Escobar. “Does that sound alright to everyone ?”

“Sounds alright by me, with that I suppose we’ll end the discussion on the trade deals. I’ll leave this time for any inquiries or questions before adjourning this meeting of the IWEC.” Clements said, putting away the documents and looking around the room.

“I’d like to add something comrade Clements. The Council has an offer for CAU. We would like to hire the help of a nuclear scientist to support our nuclear ambitions. In exchange we will pay 4 units of aluminum”

Clements pondered the deal, looking to the Premier who was seated next to him who simply nodded and smirked slightly. “I believe that would be mutually beneficial, consider it a deal.” He had an assistant write down the deal and make a copy for the both of them. “I’ll have the office of the Premier consult with the Nuclear Workers’ Union, we’ll send you our best man… With that, let us conclude this meeting of the International Worker’s Economic Council.”

Gran Colombia trades the CAU 4 aluminum for 1 WMD point; GC trades 3 units of iron to SASR, and 7.25 units of oil to SUSEA
CAU trades 10 units of iron to the SUSEA and 10 units of oil to the SASR
PCCA trades 7 units of natural gas to the SUSEA and 9 units of natural gas to the SASR

July 11, 1990
Quelle, Galasie
Army Day

In the lead up to July 14, it became common practice for governmental officials to visit a site that was important to each of the three branches and conduct an inspection or other event. The first day was devoted to the Army, the foremost of the Galasian military arms. This year, it was decided that a tour of the 7th Mechanized Division of the Armée du Nord would be appropriate.

The 7th was chosen for a number of reasons. It was the current parent unit of the 1st Infantry Regiment, one of the oldest of Galasie and with a number of famous battles under its belt. But the true draw lay in the 7th itself and the city it was currently based in. The 7th had fought with distinction in the Great War, among its officers from that time period were three future Galasian Chiefs of the Defense Staff.

The other was the city of Quelle (or Kell in Acusian)[1]. It was a cultural and religious center of the region. It had been home to the Bishopric of Kell, a powerful bishop and elector of the old empire. It’s almost millenia old Cathedral was still a tourist attraction that rivaled Notre-Dame de Veraveux. Perhaps equally important, the city was almost right on the Galasian-Acuisian border. The river was the only thing that separated the city from its counterpart across the water.

Before the coup, travel between the two cities had been a simple process of driving across a bridge. Now border checks were required and traffic had severely dried up and the Quelle government, like many city governments on the border, were growing concerned about the bridges and other joint projects. The bridges belonged to neither country, they were a joint effort and paid for by various funding schemes. Now questions of upkeep and repair threatened to slowly wear down these bridges figuratively and literally. Several current and upcoming restoration projects had already been canceled.

It was in the shadow of these concerns that a number of men in suits and uniforms walked. They were all following three men in particular; Defence Minister Henri Aliette, Chief of the Defense Staff Paul Kœnig and Commander of the Armée du Nord, Octavien Belle. The cabinet had decided that given the recent events, sending the Prime Minister of Chef to this region would be too dangerous. Therefore, the military and civilian heads of the Galasian military department were considered most appropriate.

“It is a pleasure to have you with us for the inspections.” Belle said to Aliette.

“The pleasure is ours, general.” Aliette answered.

“You will both be quite pleased with the 7th, it is one of our best.” Belle added.

“I am sure we will not be disappointed.” Kœnig said.

The three men chatted a bit about logistic matters before they finally arrived at the parade grounds where the thousands of men and women of the 7th Division stood waiting. At the front of the division stood it’s commander, Général de division Hendrik ”Henri” Endt.

“Attention!” Endt shouted, other officers and NCOs shouted the order down. The Division quickly came to attention. It helped that Endt had made sure that the most senior conscript units were put in the front. The newer soldiers merely followed the example of their seniors and the orders of their officers.

“A wonderful display” Aliette said as his group reached Endt’s.

“Thank you sir.” Endt replied. “It is merely the beginning. After the inspection the division will participate in a number of exercises for your observation.”

“I am pleased that you are pulling out all the stops.”

“Nothing but the best for our distinguished guests.”

And so the 7th with through the motions that had been drilled into it for the past several weeks. For them, this was about establishing themselves as a professional unit. The war had left them stuck as a home of rejects and crazies. The army did not have a recurring problem per se, they got a majority of recruits anyway. It was about an image war. The Republican government and a significant minority of Galasians only knew about the army from what happened in the Sagarotaiyin war. They lost and did many questionable things along the way to that failure.

People thought of small squads running through the jungle shooting at everything. The goal here was to show they were a professional and large force, with an entire division moving in formation. The Army hoped it would make people think of the old Revolutionary armies or even the Great War armies that were associated with mass action and armies that were associated with victory.

The entire leadership was especially keen on pushing this narrative now. They were nervous about Acuisia and the maneuvers done on their borders. They would soon reach out to their LFN allies about their own set of military exercises, but for now, it was about showing that they were still a respected force and in control of Quelle and the areas around it.

Colbré, Galasie
Navy Day

The Colbré[2] Naval Base was one of Galasie’s largest military bases and also the home of the Galasian High Seas Fleet charged with securing Galasian Atlantic interests. It was designated as the site of Galasie’s Navy Day this year. Generally the bases and ports of Galasie alternated in serving as the location for Navy Day with one of the two Galasian fleets having a fleet day in the city. Today the High Seas Fleet would have a review led by what would soon become its flagship.Chef d’Etat Jean Vernier and his staff arrived at the base just before noon via private jet. He had arrived to officially commission the ship into the fleet.

Normally such duties were assigned to others, but in this case, the ship was special. Galasian Naval Doctrine had demanded at least two aircraft carriers be active at any given time, but the war in Sagarotaiyin had halted a great deal of that work, The Navy had only managed to secure funding for a single nuclear powered aircraft carrier, the Schérer and had been forced to rely on older carriers to make up the slack, but both of had been reaching their limit in the 70s and were scheduled for retirement in the 80s.

The election of the Republicans had been something of a blessing for the Navy. Of the three branches, the Navy had historically been the most left-leaning. Naval labor strikes in the late-forties had been instrumental in securing better labor conditions for all Galasian workers. The nature of the Sagarotaiyin had also meant the Navy had been far more detached from it compared to the Air Force and Army. That meant that when the Republicans took power, Navy spending was a safe way to appeal to the military hawks without alienating the left completely.

When the Navy asked for funding for a new carrier, the Republicans were quick to grant it. It had been completed last year and spent a year undergoing sea trials. Now, the Cardinal Gizeux was set to be officially inducted into the Galasian Navy and become the flagship of the High Seas Fleet.

The name had been rather continuous, but the Navy stuck to it. Cardinal Théodore Gizeux had been the effective prime minister of Galasie and Admiral of France (essentially Naval Minister) under King Jean VI for almost twenty years in the XVII century. The Cardinal had established the first permanent navy for Galasie and carefully supervised it until the end of his life. Even among the most anti-royalist sailors, the Cardinal was seen as a father of the Navy and all but a patron saint to its men.

This good reputation was compounded with that of Schérer whose relationship with the Navy was ambivalent at best. The naval leadership had demanded that they name the new class after they had been forced to use the name to secure funding.

Chef d’Etat Jean Vernier, unlike his adoptive ancestor, had been quite a supporter of the Navy, he had served as a helmsman on one of the last Galasian Battleships during his term of national service and his elder son had served as a submariner during his own term. When Vernier offered to commission the ship, the Navy was quick to jump on it, even arranging media reporters to be flown in from across Galasie. The naval leadership hoped to turn the Gizeux into the first of a class of at least two, if not three ships. The Navy had even arranged for a helicopter to fly above the scene and record shots of the ship from above for the news stations to put in their reports. The cameraman made sure to capture the rest of the High Seas Fleet in the background, waiting for the commissioning.

Vernier and his Republican Guard escort arrived at the stage, the Gizeux looming behind. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen. While Veraveux prepares for the festivities in two days, we have an important duty to perform here today. How amazed would Cardinal Gizeux be to see what the Navy he started has become. I can think of no greater honor to his naval legacy than this.

“Long has our Nay been without a second carrier, leaving the Schérer to run back and forth between fleets. Now another Gizeux arrives to revitalize and restructure Galasie’s naval might. If this carrier strikes even a fraction of the fear its namesake did to our enemies, it will never see war and we will be the better for it.

“I would like to thank the Navy for this honor and…” Vernier bent down to sign the commissioning papers on his podium, “welcome the Cardinal Gizeux into the Naval brotherhood, welcome to the service. Capitan Cloutier, I leave this vessel to you.” He handed the papers to the ship’s captain, Olivier Cloutier who had been taking the ship through its trials for months.

Cloutier accepted the documents and made his way onto the ship where he would take the ship to the head of the High Seas Fleet and lead it along the maneuvers as commanded by the fleet’s commander. The maneuvers themselves were fairly simple, but amazing to the civilians who did not see such maneuvers every day. The day was capped by the Gizeux’s Air Wing launching from the ship and flying around the base. For the Navy, it was a successful day.

Istres, Galasie
Air Force Day

The Galasian Air Force was the most junior of Galasie’s major military branches, but when compared to other air force’s it was practically ancient. It was established as the Air Service of the Galasian Army in 1910, just before the Great War. However, the Eileanic Royal Air Force was the first to become an independent service, with Galasie following Great Eilean’s example some years later.

Still, the Air Force conducted itself with pride and honor as the safeguard of Galasie’s airspace and beyond. Ever since the Bureau of Aeronautics and Ballistics was first assigned to them, the Air Force had been deeply involved in the space program. Even though they were no longer officially in charge of the civilian IRSA, it still kept close ties to the organization with many Galasian Spationauts being former air force personnel. It also made Istres[3}, the sight of the IRSA HQ, a center for Air Force activity as well.

Given the role of national service in Galasian society, many of the civilian workers of the IRSA served a term as technical personnel in Air Force installations before being recruited into the IRSA. The Air Force not only knew of the practice, but encouraged it by being especially generous with deferments, allowing those accepted into STEM programs to earn a degree and then serve a term in specialized roles in the service.

That meant that where the Army and Navy focused on showing off their military might, the Air Force tended to go another way. They chose to cooperate with the IRSA. The IRSA agreed to hold a launch to the International Space Station on this day, the air force would send a few fighters to “escort” the shuttle and generally show off.

That was the basics of what was happening now. The local Air Base had attached a flight of eight planes to the launch. Four of the planes were holding above the launch pad out of sight and the other four were closer, but a distance away from the pad, waiting for the Liberté to be launched to relieve the Égalité that was currently docked at the ISS.

Many Galasians were fascinated with Space, so launches were always popular events for television crews to record and people to attend. While they waited for the launch, they were given a mini air show of low risk maneuvers. The announcers called it a “taste of tomorrow” where more daring maneuvers would be done tomorrow by the Patrouille de Galasie, the official aerobatics team of Galasie who were busy preparing for tomorrow in Veraveux.

As the countdown reached one, the Liberté lifted off into the air and the planes followed. The Liberté started off slow and the escort had to be careful not to overtake it, but as it picked up speed, the situation became reversed and soon the planes were no longer able to keep up with the speeding shuttle. Eventually the shuttle was deemed to be “safe” and the escort broke off, performing a few more maneuvers before the crowd and then took off for the base.

A few hours later, they would repeat the process for the Égalité which was returning from its own trip, having been relieved by its sister-ship. The return of the Égalité appeared to be a far more proper escort, as it entered the air space, it was joined by four of the planes in a v formation with the shuttle in the middle. Cameras were on the path to record the flight from the ground. The fighters escorted the shuttle all the way to the runway before peeling off.

It was not all that exceptional compared to the events of the previous days, but it accomplished the goals of the Air Force. To show people the New Air Force. The Old Air Force was forever associated with burning jungles, levelling villages and strafing anything that moved. The New Air Force was sleek, advanced and all about the tech.

They did not need people who were impressed with explosions and destruction (those would find their own way to the Air Force), the Air Force wanted to attract the attention of those with interests in science and technology. To that end, they associated themselves with one of the most advanced groups in Galasie and people who considered the IRSA would seriously consider the Air Force for their own term of service. The more tech and specialists they had, the better they would look during budget time.

A Green Tomorrow

FUSI Modena - Modena, Emilia

Image

The sun pierced through the clouds, which were already thinning as the sun climbed higher in the sky. The breeze gently roamed through the streets, creating a perfect balance between the warm sun and the cold air. July in central Emilia was more than pleasant, to say the least. Today was an especially perfect day, in fact. Many of the world’s leaders would be convening on FUSI’s Modena Campus, to discuss sustainable energy, and ways to expand its production and distribution to the masses. After all, someone had to preserve this beautiful weather for the next generation.

Segretario Vitali paced back and forth inside the empty conference hall, proofreading a massive folder of statistics and data. The Department of Energy had just given her this dossier on Italy’s energy production this morning, much to her annoyance. She would have preferred it in her hands several days in advance, to allow her to proof the information given to her in preparation for today’s conference. That didn’t matter anymore, however, as the conference was due to start in a mere few hours. She had already read it several times over so far, yet for some reason she could not put any of it down.

”Segretario Vitali?” A female voice shattered the silence, the shock of which almost caused Mrs. Vitali to drop the massive folder of paperwork in the process. Regaining both her composure and her grip, she looked up to see another woman walking towards her. She was in roughly her mid or late 20s, wearing a simple yet elegant skirt suit, complete with the Italian flag pinned to her lapel.

”Boun giorno, Signora Vitali.” The woman greeted her warmly, extending her hand. ”Gabriella Savoia, Principessa della Italia.”

Segretario Vitali returned the gesture, shaking Gabriella’s hand. ”The pleasure is all mine, vostra maestà. I’m assuming you’re here to participate in the conference?”

”That would be correct, Segretario Vitali,” Gabriella excitedly remarked. ”It’s always been a passion of mine, the whole sustainable energy industry. With all of the significant leaders that will be present today, it was hardly an opportunity to pass up!”

Segretario Vitali smirked in agreement. ”Va bene, vostra maestà. Thank you for coming out then. The conference will be starting soon, in the mean time, here’s some of the paperwork my department gave me, it’ll give you all the extra statistics and data you’ll want for today.” Segretario Vitali handed off the folder to Gabriella.

”Boun giorno, signore e signori.” Segretario Vitali states, shuffling some papers at the podium. ”I would like to thank all the people who have came out to attend the first ever International Sustainable Energy Conference; our commitment to green energy today guarantees a green earth tomorrow. I would also like to thank FUSI Modena for hosting us today. We are now going to open the floor for anyone who wants to speak.”

Mirodin Karmaphiev, minister of ecology and resources, walks up to the podium while trying to avoid standing near anyone. ”I would like to express my gratitude towards Italy for providing us such an opportunity to show the world that Serkaria as a nation has moved past fossil fuels and wants to go green.”

Segretario Vitali nodded to the Serkarian Minister. ”Italy equally appreciates Serkaria’s commitment to the planet’s health in the long term. We hope that this conference will bring all nations together in a common goal of a cleaner planet.”

”Italy, in particular, has put a larger focus on nuclear energy as the future of sustainable energy in the Federal Kingdom. We’ve already opened 12 large nuclear energy plants in major cities across the nation in 1980, after about fourteen years of construction. A further twelve plants are under construction, we expect them to open anytime between 1992 and 1996, depending on construction schedules and whatnot. Overall, a dozen large nuclear plants has already reduced the need for oil and coal within the electrical grid, we expect that doubling our nuclear energy output will safely put the nuclear energy sector as producing the majority of Italy’s electricity output. Overall, we expect the Italian Electric Grid to be fossil fuel free by 2016.”

Ahti Kallio, the famous Surmuan sea ecologist, speaks up and says: "While it is important that we manage our carbon emissions we mustn't forget to ban companies from dumping pollutants such as plastic into the ocean, plastic causes many problems to the sea habitats and we must not only outlaw improper disposal of harmful waste, but also take an effort in cleaning the ocean from the already existing trash."

Galasian Minister of Environment Rémy Le Goff speaks next. “I strongly agree with what has been said. The Ecological Party of Galasie with our Republican allies has made major strides in our renewable energy market. However, I must stress that technology is only one aspect of a greener world, other pillars to our future are sustainability and education. We need to use our resources in a way that is sustainable, not only relying on technology to bring us forward, but our food production must also support the earth, not work against her. And both of these goals rely on Education, we need to teach not only our children, but our adult and elderly populations about these values. We must all unite so that ecological beliefs are not merely political, but community beliefs that all sections of our society value.

”I agree with Minister Le Goff,” Principessa Gabriella piped up. ”Improving technology and expanding infrastructure will only have marginal and short term consequences if long term investments in education and sustainability aren’t made. Italy has, this year alone, invested heavily in sustainability related to our agricultural sector, a trend that the central government in Roma will most likely continue for the foreseeable future.”

Professor Charles Sampson from the University of Richmond listened attentively to the discussion, “These are all good ideas, but we must be aware of the workers. Many workers make their living from industries that produce greenhouse gases. In fixing one externality we may create another if their needs aren’t taken care of.”

”Your concerns are valid, Mr. Sampson.” Segretario Vitali countered. ”However, is it important to note that the expansion of renewable energy industry will, in theory, generate enough jobs to replace those lost with the contraction of energy production reliant on fossil fuels. With adequate investments in job training programs, i operai will be more than capable of finding new jobs within the sustainable energy sector. And failing that, we project that jobs in many of sectors, in the Italian economy at least, will continue to be generated at a significant enough rate to prevent any potential labor problems.”

Professor Charles Sampson nodded in agreement, “exactly, job training programs are indeed a necessity but we must not get too carried away. Workers are connected to their labour, some have spent years, decades even, in the fossil fuel industry. Such old horses may not be so readily willing to change. And there are other concerns such as pensions or whatever retirement system their company may have. My point being that the transition is as nuanced as the science of climate change is. We must focus on a painless transition for any success to be found. Otherwise we could simply outlaw or increase prices of goods that contribute to climate change immediately. The issue would be solved overnight, but many of our people will become poor and angry.”

Le Gof nodded, “we must do everything we can to lessen the impact of these changes upon workers. Such programs will invariably rely on active governmental support. However, we cannot use that as a crutch to slow to delay any of our advocacy. Making sure people are employed is important, but the most important thing we can do for our children and grandchildren is to leave them with a world they can live in. Jobs today will mean little if we are dooming our descendents to resource wars and climate refugee crises.“

“That is not to say that workers are wrong to be concerned with their livelihoods. Indeed, a beautiful tomorrow is not helpful if you cannot afford to care for your children today. But, we must push forward with green technology today before the damage to our planet becomes irreversible. And for that, we must focus on getting the biggest polluters, including many of the biggest companies in the world, on the negotiating table. We need them to be partners, not foes in this process.”

“I agree wholeheartedly,” Charles replied, “I am sure the worker Cooperatives, employee owned, and state owned firms in the PCCA will be able to work something out. Invest in greener technology, save more for worker benefits, etc, etc. It’s the private firms that worry me, they have little incentive to do anything. Actually they have quite the incentive to do as little as possible. Not to mention the geopolitics. What’s the future for Arascid in a green world?”

”It may come across as insensitive or cruel, but it’s the same fate everyone else will suffer.” Secretary Vitali commented. ”Either they adopt to the changes, or they’ll fall behind. However, we as an international community, we be more focused on working together, a common stride forward will be more beneficial than working isolated or against each other.”

Hao Yang, a Professor from the University of Beijing, stood up, “While the comments here are scientifically correct, China and other third world nations currently cannot afford to move away from fossil fuels. The west grew up in the industrial revolution polluting our world, and now it appears the west wants to take our energy away from the east. We will need much more change before China can commit to moving away from fossil fuels.”

”Mr. Yang, no one is forcing China or other nations to do anything,” Secretary Vitali commented. ”However, on Italy’s behalf, we would be willing to assist green energy startups in developing nations. As I said prior, a common stride is more effective than isolated progress or working against one another.”

Professor Yang laughed, “Italy cannot afford to subsidize China, let alone the third world. We have a billion citizens, and so does Sagaria. Many are poor, green energy even if the start up costs were free for us, would still be greatly more expensive than fossil fuels currently are. We cannot have this common stride. Not like this, what needs to happen is for the West to move much quicker so as to give the East time to catch up.”

Professor Charles nodded, “it appears we are in a catch-22. A common stride approach would disproportionately hurt some more than others. And a proportional solution would also hurt some more than others. And nobody wants to put in the risk. We should also note the classic game theory model on a mutual good. It’s only worth investing, for each participant, if they get more than they individually put in. Even if the total if invested would be higher than the total when not invested.”

Professor Charles passes along a small infographic of the game theory model

Doctor Randal Thompson, Environmental Science director at the University of Nairobi, strokes his chin and points towards Professor Charles. “As the Professor here explains it, it will rely on the more developed nations to spearhead the charge for total energy conversion. I applaud the intentions of the Secretary here,” gesturing to Secretary Vitali “and while yes it will be expensive, let us not ignore the elephant in the room. What will be more expensive? Converting national energy sources from the cheap commodity of oil, or rebuilding communities ravished by climate change and the increasing severity of natural disasters? We need to have our priorities in check when discussing this topic, no matter the cost… As such the Central African Union will commit to any plan of action, and put our full support in any matter of plan.”

The Tarazedian representative, Doctor Ray Neeam, who until this point in the meeting had been merely taking notes, put down his pen and looked at the rest of the table - a look of slight disappointment on his face.

“Without detracting too much from all that has been said today, I would like to point out that while solar and wind present a…” he paused in search of a word, “Quaint source of power for the masses, they should only be a direction in which to head and not the end result. I believe that should take the form of the undiscussed nuclear option, which has more than enough potential to power the planet with future investment. Let alone what might await us with breakthroughs in fusion research.”

”Very well,” Secretary Vitali replied, shuffling some papers about. ”I believe that concludes the time we have left for now. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to come out and attend this meeting. I’d also like to once again thank FUSI Modena for hosting this meeting. Your commitment to a sustainable future continues to inspire future generations across the world. Grazie.”

Premiers' Mansion, Central City
July 14th, 1990
12:04

Amelia looked at the mahogany desk that laid before her, their hand slowly gliding over the glazed burgundy tinted wood before walking towards the center of the room and analyzing the entirety of the space. The room sat at 11x9x6 in its dimensions, and the walls were decorated with items from the past 4 leaders; a framed impacted bullet that struck Henry Amon in the leg, a bible and ivory rosary that belonged to Dalia Okonkwo, Aurelia Courtet's M2 carbine who's barrel was split and bent, and finally Xavier Leke's cane. It became tradition after Dalia for the exiting Premier to leave behind an item of their belonging, as a blessing to the incoming leader as a sign of good faith. She looked at Aurelia's rifle and gently placed a hand on it, feeling the grooves and dents of the out of commission carbine. Her fingers stopped at the several tally marks on the butt of the rifle, 103 in total, dotting both the left and right sides, and simply admired it.

"Aurelia... You sure were a demon amongst women..." She chuckled and walked towards the desk just as there was a knock on the door, "Come in." Amelia sat down on the plush seated chair as two of her ministers (Labor and Energy) entered the room. "Comrade Tugaloo, Comrade Kanku, a pleasure to have you both." They both gave her a salute before sitting down before her. "What seems to be the problem, I hear the trade agreements with the SASR and SUSEA have both gone well?" Kanku nodded as he placed a folder on her desk, which she opened and read along as he began to speak.

"Well Comrade Premier, the current deals have given us more ample supplies to work with internally. Me and Comrade Tugaloo have both agreed on certain things that need to be done on the Homefront to prepare the nation in the event of further conflict." Her eyes narrowed and sighed slightly as she kicked her feet up, the files on her lap as she rubbed her eyes.

"Right right... War. I hope nothing will come of it but I suppose uh... I suppose best to be prepared than naïve. What is your proposal?" Armstrong found a cigarette in her pocket and stuck it between her lips as the men rattled on.

"Well as it current stands, our food reserves need desperate revitalizing; while the threat of a food shortage is low if we don't experience a historic drought of some sort." Tugaloo spoke, with Amelia scoffing with a puff of smoke.

"Jinxing it a bit aren't you?" Tugaloo looked confused but Kanku covered his mouth as he chuckled. "But continue..."

"R-right uh.... We believe that encouraging new food standards nationally while also encouraging livestock sustainability, better farming conditions and relegating more land to grazing so that we don't run the risk of disease. More food on the table of the workers means more men and women willing to volunteer to the armed forces, we could even do a recruitment drive to drum up support." She nodded and finished reading the documents.

"I give it my full support, proceed as planned. Is there anything else?"

"Yes actually," Kanku spoke up, "the nuclear scientist we decided to send to Gran Columbia has agreed to do so. A miss Ida Hampton, who was working with the Ministry of Energy for the past 10 years, her paper on nuclear decay has been instrumental on nuclear research in the Union. She'll be of good use to the Columbians."

"Good, best send our brilliant minds over so that our allies can catch up to us. Now with that, please excuse yourselves I am expecting a call any second no-." Just as she spoke the phone on her desk rang, and with that the two men dismissed themselves she Amelia answered the phone. "Premier Amelia Armstrong speaking?... Ah Comrade Lazlo, its been too long... Yes the trade deal with the PCCA and GCU are set to go through no problem, the 50 million units of oil we should be receiving should help the dire state of our navy... Yes yes of course comrade, just ensure that the 10 million units of natural gas and 40 million units of iron are set to ship out and everything should fall perfectly into place... Yes and good evening to you too, take care..." She hung up the phone and stared outside of her window, to the brutalist cityscape before her. Maybe we should fix that... She thought to herself as she reached for the phone again, dialing it to the number of housing and human services.

10 units of natural gas and 10 units of iron are to be traded by the CAU to the GCU in exchange for 20 units of oil.
30 units of iron are to be traded by the CAU to the PCCA in exchange for 30 units of iron.
4 development points into livestock sustainability

July 14, 1990
Veraveux, Galasie
National Day

July 14th, le 14 juillet, Galasian National Day. It was the holiday of Galasie. Last year’s had been the biggest one yet with over ten thousand participants to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the fall of the Bastille that is considered to be the true beginning of the revolution. All of Galasie’s allies had been invited to participate in that event and march with the military. Most units also committed double troops and several historical units that fought in the revolutionary wars were temporarily reactivated to march under honors.

This year was the 201st anniversary of the event and the 200th anniversary of the day the first parade was held (though not the 200th parade as it only became commonly held almost a century after the initial one). Still, it was considered one of the most important events in Galasie. It was the oldest and largest regular military parade in Europe and a symbol of pride for Galasie. Even in times of extreme crisis, the parade is held. Many towns with significant military presences like Quelle, Colbré and Istres have their own smaller parades, but the Veraveux parade is the one everyone in Galasie watches. Like any July 14 morning, crowds line the streets to watch the celebration.

Most of the cabinet and foreign dignitaries have already arrived by the time the parade commander and his deputies finish their inspection of the troops. Now the role falls to Chef Vernier, he arrives by car along with Defense Chief Kœnig. The parade commander meets them at the end of the land portion of the parade and he offers the parade to Vernier for inspection. Vernier and Kœnig then board a military car down the line of troops. Kœnig only gives the troops a cursory inspection as they slowly make their way down the line with mounted escorts. He trusted the commander and deputies to be on top of this. Vernier generally only gave the troops a once-over. The Chef was not actually meant to inspect the troops, he was merely there to be seen by the crowds and wave at them. When their inspection was completed the two men joined the rest of the officials at the Place de la Révolution.

Vernier gave the signal and the parade began in earnest. Traditionally foreign allies were allowed to open the parade. Galasie’s european allies had been invited to participate in the name of European unity. Italy, Osphen and Great Eilean had all agreed (recent events in Scotatrova made Galasie hesitate to invite them),

The Italian contingent was the 1st Regiment of the Garibaldi Bersaglieri Division. Because of their quick marching speed (180 paces per minute) and position as Galasie’s oldest continuous ally, they were allowed to march first. They jogged down the street with their distinctive wide-brimmed hats with black feathers. Combined with their red shirts and green trimmed coats, they were a very distinctive sight. The head of the column used his bugle to give orders and corrections. To the majority Galasian crowd, it was a fascinating sight to take in.

Next came Osphen’s 2nd Guard Regiment of the 22nd “Fóla-am-Laïa” Division. Dressed in the blue coats and burgundy trousers, they cut quite the figure as well. Long time allies of Galasie, Osphenians were a familiar site on the parade, especially in recent years. Seen as among Galasie’s most favored allies

Lastly came the Eileanic Queen’s 1st Regiment of Foot Guard. Dressed in their traditional red coats and bearskin caps, they fit the part of a Revolutionary War unit. The only hint of their modernity was the assault rifles they carried in favor of muskets. 200 years ago, seeing them parade down the streets of Veraveux would have been a sign of defeat for Galasie. Now it was a sign of reassurance.

It was no coincidence that Galasie’s European allies had been asked to join. The Galasians had wanted these units to participate to remind their people and the world that Galasie was not alone, it had allies, very close allies diplomatically and geographically. It seemed to work domestically because each time one of allied units passed, the crowds gave out a mighty cheer.

Following the allies came the Galasian portion of the parade. First came the military bands, the Army band was selected to lead this year’s parade. It was followed by a dozen others that all sang patriotic songs of Galasie. They not only played music, they performed for the crowd, executing drills and other maneuvers for the watchers.

Following them came the military cadets, wearing the uniforms of their institutions with pride. They were allowed to lead the ground units because of their symbolic role as the future of the Galasian military. Many of the military leaders at the parade, including Kœnig had participated in past parades as cadets.

Next came the proper infantry units. Regiment after regiment came bearing their flags that carried lists of battle honors. The more honors, the louder the cheers was a common saying among the soldiers who marched in the parade. While that had never been conclusively proven, some units did get bigger cheers than others. Some of the most popular were the 1st Infantry Regiment, dressed in its combat fatigues and the Marine regiments, all four of which marched together in special blue camouflage to as a nod to their moniker as the “Blue Division'' of the 1840 war. Sailors from the Navy and air force support staff also got cheers, though the latter tended to get more recognition in the sky. Then came the military police units and ever popular Veraveux Fire Brigade (technically a military formation, if not treated as such) who tended to get the largest cheers from the citizens of Veraveux.

Bringing up the rear of the infantry was the Foreign Division, last by virtue of their slow marching speed of 88 paces per minute. They received less cheers than they did last year (where every unit received massive cheers), but more than they had in recent years. It was always something of a black sheep among the Galasian military establishment. Professional force of foreigners which clashed with the citizen-soldier army ideal of the Republic, especially due to the unflattering parallels it drew to foreign guard units and mercenaries of the monarchy. This divide only grew during the war where it was accused of a number of atrocities by both sides.

With the infantry done, next came the mounted Republican Guard regiment, a ceremonial unit that was assigned to Veraveux and the Chef in particular. The horses were popular with the children, but what followed was the real draw of the section. The armored and motorized units of the Galasian army. The AMX-30 paraded proudly for its age, but it likely did not have many more parades left as it was scheduled to be replaced soon. They were divided by unit, but the public rarely distinguished them in the same way as the infantry. They were simply rows and rows of armored units. Though, again, the unit that got the loudest cheers were the Veraveux Fire Brigade’s vehicles that occasionally lit their lights to the cheer of the crowds.

Almost as soon as the mounted section had ended, the air portion began in earnest with the Patrouille de Galasie pulling off a number of daredevil stunts with their nine members. They were followed by five flights of 8 fighters representing the five groups of the Galasian Air Force and even a bomber (no longer used by the military, but kept for the parade because it looks impressive). The Navy similarly sent out 2 flights for their two groups. Trailing behind the jets were the helicopters of the army, interior ministry and firefighters which still managed to look impressive to the audience.

Then came the final part, a transport plane flew over the area and soldiers began jumping out of it. Experts picked from across the military to perform daring maneuvers while falling through the sky. It was the only part of the parade not practiced on site on July 12, but rather outside the city in a mock-up of the Place de la Révolution. This group was carefully selected for the role and it showed. During the 1985 parade, one of the parachutists experienced a rare failure of both his primary and secondary parachutes. The soldier alerted his fellow divers via hand signal, one of the other soldiers dived quicker to catch the fellow and hooked the first to his own line with the crowd none the wiser. This year thankfully had no parachute failures. All of the parachutists landed safely to massive applause.

With the demonstrations concluded, the traditional ending ceremony begins. The Veraveux Garrison Commander hails the Chef who responds and leaves the stage to greet the commander. The two speak and then Vernier walks to his car and leaves. Then the rest of the military, civilian and foreign officials begin to leave the stage. Many shake hands with the Commander and congratulate him on the parade. The Garrison and Parade Commanders then begin organizing a cleanup of the parade grounds with members of the Veraveux mayor’s staff.

While the parade was over, the party was just beginning across Galasie. Drinking, eating and dancing were popular activities throughout the country. Many clubs opened early for people to party and concert stages were erected in many places with amatuer and famous artists giving performances. Firefighters even opened their stations up for dancing during the night before and most of the day for the public. The streets of many Galasian cities were dotted with food stalls, games and street performers. Some of the more left-leaning groups even set up mini-guillotine displays where they cut open fruits and bottles. It was a time of pure revelry.

Many Assembly members were home or making their way home to spend time with family and appeal to constituents, especially since elections were less than a year away now. Those that could not be home made sure to have their staff or proxies act on their behalf. The Prime Minister and other party leaders would also be speaking to their supporters, but generally politics was kept away from the holiday. Attempts to politicize it by the National Alliance in the 1970s were seen as a major part of their eventual fall from power.

The day ended with fireworks displays in basically every municipality across the country. In Veraveux, the fireworks attracted hundreds of thousands of watchers. Last year’s attracted over one million spectators and this year’s seemed close to those numbers. The entire city of lights lit up even more as fireworks we launched throughout the early evening until close to midnight.

Workers Telecommunication Agency, Dallas, Texas

Vernon Grant read the report in front of him. Chief Operations Manager of one of the major telecommunications firms in the nation. Sales were up, R&D was looking more into mobile communications, a variety of military contracts. All the boring day to day stuff. The man sighed, this was not what he expected 30 years ago when he started his career. Laying the report down he pulled out a key hidden in his necktie, turned to a nearby safe, entered the code and key.

The safe locks gave away and revealed one of the biggest secrets in the People's Confederate Councils of Amalia. The Workers Telecommunication Agency, formed in the early 50s, has long been a front for the PCCA's intelligence agency. Formed by decree of Reverend Lewis, it helped monitor the communications across the nation. From there the right talent was hired, with and with it's expertise, expanded towards external surveillance as well.

Inside the safe was just what Grant was looking for, a single manila envelope, a report on an ongoing mission.

Operation TEAMSTER

Deliveries made in all locations,
Package confiscated,
All lanes open.

Damn report language, Vernon thought, hard to tell what's going on.

He knew Operation Teamster was a test on Great Basin's security against smuggling operations. Test how strong their methodologies are against smuggling, overall the officer reports were deemed a success. Though the "package" was a personal side arm, so that being confiscated by security was disturbing. Grant turned back towards the safe, grabbed one of two stamps, and put a stamp on the report. The stamp deemed the operation a success, and with the report back in the envelope and the safe, an agent could come by at night and take the report to a secure location. Grant would have to make a note of next time he's in New Orleans to read the individual agent reports. The next phase of the operation would be to test sneaking across the border, yet how to go about it?

Arasicid assistance in the civil service reforms in the Acuisian state July 17th 1990

There have been outcries in recent memory from the Acusian public due to an evident spoils system that has clouded the political institutions and legal frameworks of Acusia. The systematic corruption that exists is due to a clear existence of a spoils system in which political patronage is often practiced to which the chancellors of the past awarded political allies with positions in government in exchange for financial and political support.

Even with competent chancellors in place, the corruption which has been orchestrated against the shaky institutions of the states has sunk and deepened its roots. The military decided since civil society could be not entrusted to reform the society as evident for decades of systematic corruption at every level of governance it now had to act to destroy the evil roots of corruption.

The citizenry demanded effective governance and an iron-fisted approach towards corruption which has resulted in the support for the military Junta.

General Hermann Eckhardt, the representative of the ruling National Salvation Council, expressed his belief in the necessity of reform initiatives in a national address aired July 18th. “The inner workings of the old government,” said Eckhardt, “were indisputably rife with political nepotism. Crucially, bureaucratic positions were often awarded and withdrawn not on the basis of competence, but of loyalty to the SPD and its favored policies. The Council seeks not to conceal this web of corruption by appointing its own sycophants, but to abolish it entirely. Henceforth, bureaucratic appointments will be subject to a stringent process of review—skill and integrity, not loyalty, will be prized above all.”

Proponents in which support these roots were successful at blocking meaningful civil service reform which created situations where there were systematic abuses that preferred ties to politicians or political affiliations rather than a prudent approach towards the selection of some government employees by competitive exams.

The Arascid Empire comparatively has had a long-standing practice of meritocracy in Western Asia. Which has resulted in the Acusian government asking for technical expertise to create a congruent system that promotes the best people for the top job.

According to Zryrus III Arascidi a descendant of Cyrus who was the inventor of Arascidi Legalism and meritocracy he refers to the “transmission of a meritocracy as beneficial for the long term vision of the Acusian state.”

He believes that political meritocracy could be transmitted to western liberal democracies as they are historically competent with democratic values and practices.

Zyrus advises that the Acusian government could fully democratize lower levels of democracy allowing for sortition through a lottery system of competent leaders in the county and district levels of government. At the same time, parties could also attempt to recruit diverse groups of intellectuals and businessmen to join their parties and perform political meritocracy within party structures. Mandating parties to adopt such a model would create a professional political system of meritocracy which will be more accountable to the people which overtime will be more effective at governance.

He warns a full-scale liberal democracy in an age where information is readily available as an elected leader without any political experience could appeal to the average man’s worst instincts through populism and would rule as the head of government in the Acusian Empire given its liberal attitudes towards freedom of speech. There is a real pragmatic need for governments across the world to be more meritocratic overtime as long-term planning would be for the good of the nation-state and for the people across the world.

Isfahan meeting regarding the issue of Brasilia

Postby Mes » Mon Dec 28, 2020 1:10 pm

July 19th 1990
Isfahan HQ, Isfahan, Arascid

Isfahan Pact’s collective meeting on the issue of preserving peace and stability in South Amalia.

The Isfahan pact has been concerned with the internal strife in Brazil and would like for the state of Drucezschski to intervene as a mediating power in order to preserve social stability and political stability for the peoples of Brazil.

There has been an urgent collective secret meeting between ambassadors of the Isfahan pact in order to get a consensus on the matter.

Igor Namadayev, the Serkarian diplomat to Arascid, speaks up: “As a representative of Serkaria it is in our opinion that the UWRF is our biggest threat currently. Even if the LFN isn’t acting in Isfahan’s best interests the communists can’t be trusted to not interfere in our governments and therefore must be eliminated or at the very least weakend severely before we turn on anyone else. Letting a country fall to the UWRF would be a huge mistake on our part and must be avoided at all cost even if it means working with the LFN for some time.”

Milad Khosravi, the Arsacidi diplomat to the Turkic Union, speaks after the response from the ambassador of Serkaria to Arascid. After drinking a sip of water, speaks up: [i] “As a representative of Arascid we believe that Drucezschki can work with the LFN in North America in order to secure regional peace. A possible partnership with the LFN could be beneficial in taking away pressures from North America in order for Drucezschki to focus on more crucial matters in South America. There are concerns of whether the Panama Canal is going to be accessible in the future and whether the Communists will continue their effort and create insurrections against peaceful sovereign states in South America. I plead with the government of Drucezschiki to please work with the LFN in order to pressure the UN to intervene.”

Ambassador to Isfahan Karl Hoff nodded, “The events in Brazil the past month have been troubling, while our sources, including those from our friends in the Brazilian government, have found no evidence of foul play by the communists. After the events in South Africa it is highly likely they are involved. As for UN intervention it can be requested but it’d likely be vetoed by China. If anything is to happen it will have to be through us, in other words through Drucezschki. Albeit after the latest protests I am unsure if we are in a position to engage in what could become a proxy war. Anyone here have other thoughts to add?”

Milad Khorsravi: Is there any possibility that Drucezschki’s forces could be a leading force in an army of Isfahan volunteers composed of all nations across the Isfahan pact?

Karl Hoff nodded, “Depends on what you mean by volunteers? If you mean your professional armies then yes, that would help take the strain off of Drucezschki.”

Viktor Gjaefland ambassador to Ascarid: if the revolution takes a turn for the worse, I feel it’s necessary to take military action, we shall provide economic aid to brazil if we see necessary as our military capabilities are limited.

Milad Khosravi: I would be glad to send troops to Drucezshcki but I wonder if we can overcome the challenges of sending troops across the world to participate in a conflict in South America. Logistics could become a problem. Are there any suggestions you would make for our involvement and whether it be sending a token force or a substantially bigger military force to your respective nation.

Viktor Gjaefland ambassador to Ascarid: We could send out units across the Atlantic as we are the closest to Drucezschki logistically, we could provide convoy support for transporting troops.

Milad Khorsravi: As a representative of Drucezshcki, how would you feel if Serkaria and Norsia take on most of the responsibilities in the military participation? I believe the nation of Arascid could be economically assisting you considering it would be extremely difficult to navigate around the Cape of Good Hope and across the Southern Atlantic to military assist the nation of Drucezhikci. Our nation can finance the volunteer troops as well as providing cheap fuel to the regimes that require our assistance.

“If Serkaria and Norsia wish to send forces, we would be able to assist. If you can make the promise of sending forces, Drucezschki will begin preparations to assist the Republic of Brazil. The more forces sent the easier this will be,” Karl Hoff stated.

Message to the Government of Brazil.

The member states of Isfahan are aware of your troubling times and are willing to assist you as needed to restore order and peace in the region.

20th of July, 1990

Inside Fortaleza Roja

Following the request of Marshall Simon Carillo for an emergency meeting, The Council voted with overwhelming majority to intervene in Brazil. The Marshall shall receive direct control of all 3 divisions in the east: The 2nd Armored Division, the 4th Infantry Division and the 3rd Artillery Division ; as well as control over the Air Wings located in Manaus and La Paz.

As soon as the decision was taken, the Marshall formed to War Council in order to organize the operation

Marshall Simon Carillo: "Gentlemen, the moment to prove the strength of our nation has arrived. The Instability in Brazil must be ended quickly before it gets out of control. We could wake up tomorrow with tons of refugees at our gates or even worse, our troops stationed at the borders might be mistakenly targeted. We must help the revolution in the name of liberty, freedom and equality. The workers of Brazil shall no longer be oppressed by their leaders. It's our duty to protect South Amalia. I'd like to hear some ideas for now."

Luis Escalante: "We must act quickly. We saw what happened in South Africa, other powers were quick to react and even willing to send their armies. I believe there is a high chance they will consider it as well in our case since the conditions are similar. We have the advantage of making the first move, we should not waste this opportunity"

General Renato Verano: "The quickest way to win is to destroy enemy morale right from the beginning. We have both the numerical and the technological advantage, not to mention that our men are better trained. We should use our overwhelmingly superior air force to quickly gain control over the skies and bomb enemy positions and convoys."

Enrique Zamora: "I believe that propaganda will play a significant role here. We should make it loud and clear to the people that we are not the enemies. We should drop leaflets over their cities and military outposts. Those who willingly join the revolution shall be welcomed as heroes in the new world. This will make the civilians help the revolutionaries and possibly cause even more defections in their ranks."

Simon Carillo: "I like how that sounds. We shall prepare our aircraft to be ready to take off at any moment during the following days. Right after our bombing campaign starts we will use the propaganda strategy to divide them. But before that, we will move our units under the cover of the night into rebel territory. The 2nd Armored Division and 4th Infantry Division shall enter rebel land and prepare for a joint offensive with the revolutionaries. General Renato Verano, I trust you with the command of these 2. Meanwhile, the 3rd Artillery Division will take defensive positions at the beginning in the north. General Octavio Valverde, I trust you with the command of this division. The Tactical Bomber wing from Bogota shall be moved to Manaus to decrease the distance it will have to travel. The name will be Operation Amazon and it shall begin tomorrow on the 21st at 00:00. Does anyone wish to add anything ?"

Alvaro Nevarez: "How are we going to deal with international reactions ?"

Simon: "Everything will already be in motion by the time they find out. On top of that our actions are justified and we will have the support of our allies. The war will already be over before they can do anything. If this is all then I declare the meeting over. Get into your positions everyone"

Operation Amazon officially begins

to clarify any possible misunderstanding, the air bombing hasn't started yet

Director White Calls for UN to Curb Bloody Revolution in South America

Image
Scenes from the Brazilian capital as tensions mounted between the government and the growing number of communist revolutionaries.

As the dust from the war in South Africa between the C.A.U and the formerly aparteid state, it appears to have had a domino effect in another region in the southern hemisphere: South America. In recent weeks, the disaster stricken nation of Brazil has endured a period of mounting civil unrest, apparently driven by hard left groups within the country. The Tarazedian Ambassador to Brazil, already embroiled in a struggle with the Tarazedian senate to get aid funds approved to help with the relief efforts after the devastating floods, soon found himself calling for UN intervention.

"That these apparently disorganised revolutionaries were able to overpower security forces in the capital and mount such a campaign of guerilla warfare across Brazil speaks to one of two things: that the Brazilian government radically underestimated the state of unrest in their nation, or that these communist revolutionaries have recently recieved foreign help. It may very well be both. Nonetheless it is imperative that no more nations be driven to bloody civil war by communist powers, their tainting of democracy has drawn a firm line in the sand - a line which points only to chaos. Their efforts at subterfuge and domination must be halted diplomatically through the United Nations. But containment of this agression by any means necessary should be an available option. South Africa may have fallen, but all efforts should be taken to prevent a domino effect across the southern hemisphere."
- The speech given by Director White to the Senate shortly after war was declared between the GCU and Brazil.

Tarazedian ambsassador to the UN, Doctor Sanderson, has already delivered a request for the condemnation of the GCU at the United Nations, which has since recieved the backing of several nations in both LFN and Isfahan.

"I motion for a condemnation of the GCU for their declaration of war against Brazil. A nation which has been plagued by unrest and natural disasters should be the target of humanitarian aid missions, not bombs and bullets. Such action only shows their contempt for their fellow man."
- Sanderson's UN motion.

Presidential Palace, New Orleans

President Kennedy stands at a podium, reporters at the ready, though they had already been given a copy of the speech, throughout the week his administration would look over the reports and deny what is needed but for now he must make the video. Political theater, he thought, I hate political theater.

"To my comrades and coworkers, you are well aware of the on going conflict in Brazil. The Republican regime has angered their people, failed their people, to the point of desperation. To the point where the military had to intervene to protect their families and friends. I praise the Grand Colombian Union, for being stronger than I, they have taken the step to aid those who have no one to fight for them. To help those with nothing at a great cost to themselves. As such they have been attacked and ridiculed, the capitalist and authoritarian world, outraged that such would happen. Many of these bourgeois would like to pretend that this just a handful of extremists, as if there isn't a systemic issue here. They speak of international law while falling to see the big picture. We are humans, we are all human. We all seek the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. Such has clearly failed with the current regime. They have pushed their people too much yet naught a word on that from the capitalist world. Until such changes, the People's Council shall continue to support the GCU. In unrelated news the PCCA has a preassigned military exercise in Central Amalia, we will be sending the Nashville Star Division and the Dallas Ranger Division for said exercises in the jungles."

The PCCA shall send, via GCU,
5 army points to
5 soldier points to the People's Council Republic of Brazil

21st July, 1990
Yerminster Cathedral, Wyndham, United Kingdom of Great Eilean and Strathland

"I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
"
The masses of the Eileanic aristocracy, elite, and well-to-do sang in harmony, as three soldiers from each branch of the Royal Armed Forces stood in front of the alter of Yerminster Cathedral, sabers drawn and facing a large, wooden and greyed crucifix, from each of its ends laid a Pith helmet, a Brodie helmet, and a sailors cap. Remembrance Day for Great Eilean, when the first sons of the Isles began returning from crossing the Crossing to their insular homeland from the trenches and the devastation of the Great War, which through their strength, determination and courage, was a victory that made sure that the autocracy of the Kaiserreich did not spread westward, nor did the Kaiser's perfidious grip upon Eilean. Far from the triumphant and roaring victory parades of the Galasiens, the Eileanic viewed it as a just war, one that should always be taken with solemnity.
"And there's another country, I've heard of long ago," First Minister Peckingham sang, dignified and stoic, his hands clasped at his waist, looking at the crosses.
"Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;" Sir Thenpole followed along passionately, his jowls shaking as he held a prayer book of the Catholic Church in hand, looking to the alter.
"We may not count her armies, we may not see her King." Earl Hornby whispered, for once solemn as he looked at the soldiers standing before the alter piece, the sarcasm and snark that imbued his body for once gone.
"Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.
" the masses sang in unison, as the Archbishop of Canbury picked up a golden crucifix from the alter, and held it firmly above his head before the many, 'INRI' inscribed above the head of Christ.
"Let us give thanks, to God almighty in such times, that we may continue to find peace throughout the world where the banners of Christ fly, and where good men do just government" Archbishop Harold Ellingbow proclaimed, as the congregation bowed their heads and saying softly "Amen..."
Mass continued on peacefully, with grand speeches of what good faith has done in times of darkness and war, or miracles brought upon the righteous and just, the merciful who had a light hand. Ancient Latin hymns, prayers for those who fell so that Eilean may be free, that her Empire of light may continue, and the protection of the Church and Archangel Michael. Though, quietly and quickly, an intern of the First Minister snuck his way through the crowds of those in attendance, coming near Peckingham, Thenpole and Hornby.
"Your presences are requested immediately at Westminster Palace..." he whispered to the Big Three, before withdrawing, Thenpole and Hornby looked at the First Minister, who was furrowing his brow.

Forty-Five Minutes later...

Westminster Palace, Wyndham

"WHAT? YOU'RE TELLING ME THE DAMNED COLOMBIANS ARE INVADING BRAZIL AGAIN?!" Peckingham screamed, throwing papers from the Admiralty, Department of War and the Colonies and Foreign Office. "Yes, Walter. The tanks rolled across the border yesterday early in the morning. God only knows what they plan, conquest of Brazil? Spreading the Revolution. Who knows with there Trotskyite swill" Lord Winston Burghley, the Foreign Minister nodded, holding his copy of the state papers closely after seeing the FM's copy fly across the room. "Walter dear boy, calm down!" Thenpole said standing beside Burghley and the Earl of Hornby.
"How can I calm down when the Bolsheviks are making further moves across the world!" Walter growled, before shrunk back, the wind seemingly knocked out of him. He fell back into his seat, grabbing at his chest as Thenpole rushed forward. "Walter, Walter! are you alright?" he said, placing his hand on his old friend's shoulder.
"I... I don't know what happened." Walter panted, tugging at his collar and tie.
"Good God... Let me call the Paramedics and the Palace." Alexander said, wide-eyed and shocked.
"No! No! Gack!" Peckingham tried to shout, pushing himself out of the chair before sinking back down, wheezing. "The Crown must not know... The Communists must not know... The Empire must not know..."

The People’s Red Army prepares their arms for military action

The People’s Red Army start to arm their divisions and prepare for military action against the Brazilian Republican Government, the 2 infantry divisions head to the southeastern border of both the PCRB and the Brazilian Republican Government, the 3 Guerilla divisions head to both the northeast and north borders, as they prepare arms, the area between the northeast and north front and the southeast front is reserved for Colombian units. The commander of the Red Army, speaks about the preparation in an interview from Brasília;

“As the enemy bourgeoisie government plans to start military action, we shall as well, we prepare our army for invasion of the enemy bourgeoisie, with the comrades at Gran Colombia helping. We shall embrace the revolution in all of Brazil and crush the bourgeoisie regime.”

The revolution may continue as a civil war in Brazil, with the fight between the Republican government and the PCRB.

Central News Network

Facts Over Fiction.
July 25st, 1990

"Good Evening I'm Christopher Ingolo." "And I'm Julia LeBlanc, this is Central New Network with today's headlines... Today's headline the world is enwrapped in the civil war that has ravished the nation of Brazil, as international powers scramble left and right to ensure their side prevails; Prime Minister Amelia Armstrong has issued her first public broadcast since her inauguration earlier this month. She has publicly denounced the actions of the Brazilian government but has also asked the brave Brazilian rebels and People's Red Army to stand down and allow for the UN to moderate the conflict.

"I wanted to take this time to talk to about the ongoing conflict in Brazil... As many of you know this civil war is near and dear to our cause as communist, as our comrades have waged war against the capitalists in Brazil, and seek to found a new nation, much like the rebels of South Africa lead by my dear friend Mandela. We give our prayers and our support behind these rebels, but I must say that I do not condone this level of violence and destruction. Brazil is a country known for it's beauty, it's piety, and it's rich culture, and to see that destroyed by war and conflict is abhorrent. That is why while I support the efforts of the GCU, I must break my allegiance to denounce the war efforts, and urge for all parties to come to the table to discuss peace. We will not support the GCU militarily, nor the rebels, nor the State of Brazil. The CAU will step back from our obligations to act as a third party and meditator if need be, but for now the stance of the Central African Union is to remain neutral during these times.

"The CAU stands firm against intervening, despite calls from the intervention by Leninists within the country. The People's Liberation Party has broken with the IWW in parliament urging Parliament to act... "[/box]

The TV trails on as Amelia took a long sip of their tea before sighing as they stood up and walked to her the desk where a letter was half written and a few photos from her past, a revolver and a few other things. She picked up one of the photos as she placed her tea down on it's plate; a photograph of her graduating college in her hometown of Hirmcester and smiled, boy if I had told my professors about where I would be going... Ha they'd have me locked up in the bin. She placed the photo down and continued to write her letter, hoping things may turn out differently this time:

Premier of The Central African Union and Governor of Central City

Premier's Estate
To Her Eileanic Majesty,
Gloriana III Brunay-Bonbry

To her Majesty,
It has become customary for sitting Premier of the Central African Union to send her majesty a letter,
As a fellow catholic we share the same ideals and vision for how this world of ours should function.
However, not one single Premier of this Union has ever formally invited the Head of State nor Head of Government
of the United Kingdom of Great Eilean and Strathland to the Africa ever since it's independence in 1921.
I would like to cross the boundaries between our two great nations and formally invite you and your government
to the CAU (or any location of your choosing) to discuss the future of Africa and more importantly, to discuss
the fragile relationship between our two nations.
I await your response, your majesty.

Crimes in Bogota, man found dead inside his apartment

On 22nd of July, a man named Raúl Baile has been found dead in his apartment. The Crime Investigation Department has deployed a team to investigate the crime scene.

Chief Inspector Hanibal Carrion: “Good morning comrades, what do we have here?”

Sergeant Diego Teran: “Good morning sir! Raul Baile, 42 years old. Worked at the local factory. Praised by his superiors for his dedication. Recently divorced, has 2 children aged 14 and 11. They are currently living with his ex-wife. “

Chief Hanibal: “So we already have a possible suspect. Please continue”

Diego: “Cause of death, multiple knife wounds. We counted anywhere from 7 to 11, all in fatal areas.
Time of death, around 02:30. He was found by his neighbors at 08:11”

Hanibal: “That’s quite a lot of anger, the killer really hated him”

Diego: “Indeed… however we have yet to find any traces of the killer. No fingerprints, no hair, not even witnesses”

Hanibal: “Hmmm, that complicates things. Esmeralda, I want you to interrogate all his neighbors one by one. Note everything they say and announce me as soon as you find anything inconsistent”

Esmeralda Ignacio: “Yes sir”

Hanibal: “Diego, you come with me. We will visit his former wife. Bernardo and Alfredo, you go the his workplace. We must move quickly! Everyone else continue your work here”

“Yes sir”
