Not an OP but an Independent catalonia is heavily unrealistic, the last chance that was realistically possible for Catalonian independence was in the 70s after the collapse of the fascist regime, however, obv this did not happen and that can't really be changed. What might be more realistic is to play as a more decentralized spain which after growing unrest in catalonia and the basque country in the 90s, as well as with pressure from the eu, adopted a swiss style confederation government. At the very least this would afford you the opportunity to do a lot with Catalonia, potentially everything you were hoping to do with it being independent.

Theres a referendum, a civil war is not likely, worst case the catalans start a minor insurrection like in the basque country although that hurts more basque people than spanish and would only drive down popularity of an independent catalonia.

The ideological and differences in culture/politics I feel are too severe to ever constitute a remerging of the two nations.

The Czech Republic is a strong EU-bound country and very Europhile if I'm not mistaken. Decent ally and partner of Germany's.

I could see it if it was done much earlier, maybe when it was in the Warsaw and the two nation were just never seperated?

Ironically yes. Both Czechs and Slovaks didn't want the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, but it happened regardless. So as long as you stop the Velvet Divorce (which is very easy as it would involve a referendum where the Czechoslovak people decide not to split the country into two). Popular support for a democratic Czechoslovakia as a union of equals existed, so in short, Czechoslovakia is definitely doable.
