Name: Juan Martinez
Age: 40
Gender: Male
Faction: Union
Rank: Brigadier General
Describe your forces (Ie. What regiments is it composed of, which rifle are they using, type of unit): 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, 38th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 15th Ohio Infantry Regiment, 13th Infantry Regiment, 21st Illinois Infantry Regiment; uses the Springfield Model 1861 musket
Bio (at least 1 or 2 paragraphs): Juan Martinez is a descendant of wealthy Spanish immigrants to the United States. His father was a Spanish military commander in the Mexican War of Independence. Following Spain's defeat, his father fled with his wife to New York City, New York, where they decided to stay instead of returning to Spain. Martinez was born in 1822 and raised there. He had the privilege of going to a prestigious private school in the city. When he reached the age of 18, Martinez decided to follow in his father's footsteps and join the United States Army. He trained at West Point and graduated in 1844 as a second lieutenant. Despite proving to be one of the best riders in his class he was assigned to the infantry. However, when the Mexican-American War broke out, he was reassigned to the cavalry. He led a unit of cavalry during the Mexican-American War, initially being part of General Taylor's force in Texas. He was ordered to join the US forces that landed at Veracruz under General Winfield Scott and and participated in the capture of Mexico City. His actions earned him a promotion to first lieutenant. After the war, he rose through the ranks, commanding various infantry units, participating in the American Indian Wars, until reaching brigadier general. He was also an abolitionist, already having fought against pro-slavery settlers during the events of Bleeding Kansas. When the American Civil War breaks out, he goes to organize forces to lead in an invasion of the South.
Notes: Musket. Also, can the commanders receive promotions during this rp from their respective presidents?

US and Confederate generals were about evenly matched, I'd honestly give the edge to the confederacy who managed such a well fought war with such limited resources
Union generals on the other hand suffered from extreme political pressure (I'm looking at you Mr.55 commanders of the army of the potomac) but also were lucky with the abundance f resources and men they had
