Japan, the year 2000. Initial D Second Stage just ended its run and the drifting and touge scenes are as alive as they ever were. Lately, though, a user calling themselves Mochizaka has made posts on every major street racing forum looking for applicants to a new team based in Nikko, home of possibly the most infamous touge in Japan, Irohazaka. Referring to themselves also as a "Downhill Specialist," they appear to have the confidence to ask interested parties to meet at the gas station near the start of the highly technical downhill run on February 22 at 02:00. At first they were dismissed as another おたく who's hooked on Initial D and Hot Version, but there have been reports from users around Tochigi of a stock-looking RX-7 FD doing solo runs for hours in the night.
And that, friends, is where you come in! Mountain Dance is a character-driven RP, with racing results decided in this OOC thread. No crazy mechanics here, most results will be decided by a coin flip unless the participants have their own plans. Nods and direct draws from Japanese car culture are highly encouraged as well as the use of related media like Initial D, Wangan Midnight, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, and Over Rev! as character, car build, or storyline inspiration. I'd like to keep it pretty grounded, so if there's not a good excuse or some catastrophic downside to your 800+ hp build, than I'll have to decline. Speaking of which, there will be separate character and car applications so feel free as well to have side characters or even a team like Impact Blue with a driver and a co-driver. Absolutely feel free to make your character clueless as well if you'd find it more fun. Also keep in mind that the announcements were posted on Japanese-language forums. It's okay to be from somewhere else but your character better speak the language at least in that capacity. Obviously the RP itself will be in English but please take that into consideration.
The rules
1. Your character cannot and will never be Takumi Fujiwara, ie, the laws of physics apply here and there's no black magic Fujiwara Zone fuckery where an ae86 with 200 hp and no weight reduction can keep up with a car with twice the power and similar weight. I highly recommend looking at some guides for various disciplines of racing and keeping some basic knowledge of racing lines, over and understeer conditions, and other principals in mind regardless of your character's knowledge.
2. Excessively extreme cars are not allowed. Don't try to sneak past me with a Devil Z that the driver can perfectly control all the time.
3. Any other form of god-modding is banned. The most skilled drivers in the world make catastrophic mistakes and your character will find themselves in a situation they can't get out of eventually.
4. Injuries and death exist. They're a fundamental reality of racing. While sending your S13 over a guard rail might not kill you, you and your car both won't be in great shape depending on the circumstances of the crash.
5. Word from OP is god. Discussion and rebuttal are encouraged but disputing fundamental things will not earn you my favor.
6. This is an RP about having fun, don't get too bent out of shape with a ruling and find ways to help other players who suffer misfortune. We make this fun as a group!

PHYSICAL APPEARENCE: Saki is a tad above average height at 5'8" but quite thin, barely breaking 125 lbs. She has a round face with not at all prominent cheekbones and a soft chin. She has green eyes and straight, brown hair she usually keeps up.
GENERAL DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND SKILL: Saki basically has no other hobby than driving at this point. She got her license at 18 and spent the years saving up for her RX-7 behind the wheel of a 91 Suzuki Cappuccino, in which she became quite fast. Or as fast as one can be in a Kei car. She's becoming accustomed to the Mazda now and the strange power delivery of a turbo rotary engine and has done dozens of runs down the mountain in the weeks since she bought the car. In general, though, she's quite skilled for someone her age not racing in any formal sense. She has good car control, excels on braking, turn-in, and maintaining mid-corner speed, and now knows just about everything about her home course from four years of practice.
BACKGROUND/PERSONALITY/ETC.: Having little prior background in cars, she's incredibly enthusiastic to learn new things about driving since none of the rest of her family considers cars more than appliances. Her childhood in general was unremarkable, but living in the shadow of the mountains and watching the headlights of people late at night ripping down the pass captured her imagination like nothing else had. When she finally did give it a go, the Cappuccino was an instant hit with her for its size and incredibly low weight, making it very easy to throw down the mountain. Six different crashes in different places quickly taught her to respect what she was doing but never faltered her spirit. She's never raced another car on the touge before, however, and the thought has intimidated her to no end. Outwardly, though, she's very confident in herself and frequently assures her friends she'd beat anyone, especially in her new car. When she's not behind the wheel, she's browsing forums and posting cryptic topics, reading Over Rev!, and watching Hot Version and Initial D in between her classes at Hakuoh University which she only really succeeds in because of her family's insistence that she can't be a touring car driver.
