No. I set the rp around two or so years before the virus hit so that the prominent factions of 76 like Responders and Free States and Enclave are alive and well. Whether the scorched plague will ever be a part of this rp is undecided, but I'm leaning towards not having the plague be a thing in our rp. Lorewise, the plague decimated the population and gave no one a fighting chance which is why Im against that.

Thumbs up!

Whenever you want to loot a fallen enemy or rob someone, I'll always give you the opportunity. But there will be trade-offs. If you're looting a settler, there may be resistance and if they live, your name will be somewhat more infamous. And the settler may not carry high or mid tier items. If you successfully thwart a patrol of say, communist soldiers, you can loot some high to mid tier weaponry. But you're limited to how much you can carry. And the act of thwarting may be perilous, resource intensive, and alert another patrol of communists your way.

I'll try to rp looting as realistically as can be. There will be tradeoffs but also rewards potentially.

Endurance: 4
Charisma: 7
Intelligence: 10

Faction(s): New Gethsemane Republic
Background: Joseph Hampton was born in Belpre, Ohio, to an accountant and a store manager. He had an ordinary childhood - rather unremarkable, though he was known for having good grades in his schools and being a particularly religious (Methodist) person. However, in his late teens he started to take opioids and other drugs - particularly because the economic downturn in the southeastern Ohio and West Virginia area decreased the life quality for him.

He managed to gain a particularly high score on his school, though, that enabled him to enroll in the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He graduated with a Ph.D degree in Forestry, and soon applied to a prominent logging company in Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. He settled on Mill Creek, a small rural town in the middle of Randolph County, working as a forestry operations manager. During this time, Joseph became increasingly more and more religious - he'd spend most of his free time studying the scriptures, and often conducted sermons on the local Church. He retired from the company at the ripe age of 52, already owning a large mansion in the woods, several stores in the town, and an expansive plot of land near the town.

However, the turning point in his life was when the bombs fell. The collapse of society, and the loss of West Virginia's major towns radicalized him as well as his friends and companions. Together, they proclaimed the foundation of a new sovereign state just north of Mill Creek - called New Gethsemane - and since the neighboring towns were all devoid of population, they resorted to hunt and camp instead. New Gethsemane is essentially a Theocracy, with Joseph as the Prophet - the supreme civil and religious authority the members of New Gethsemane acknowledged. While they are not too large, they are quite sedentary, and usually owns a large amount of supplies - both food and weapons.

The new corporate manager was a charming, charismatic man whose words was full of wisdom. As an intellectual, William often engaged in various philosophical debates with Joseph, which again fascinated him.

His expectations of Joseph came true when the Great Collapse - as the members of New Gethsemane called the nuclear fire - happened. Joseph was the only person with the initiative to led the residents ofthe town and his compatriots to escape the region. Some stayed, but some left with him - William included. His devotion towards the Prophet's teachings grew fruitful. The Prophet himself selected him to become his Evangelist. This is a honor that William would uphold his entire life... by always trying his best to spread the true teachings across Appalachia.

Nah, they ain't that kind of zealots. More like what would happen if the Eden's Gate cult in Far Cry 5 actually can listen to reason.

The Prophet is approved. Though I have some questions regarding the faction. How was it founded, and under what goals and motivations? How large and established is it? Which parts of the Fallout 76 map does it occupy? And what are its relationships like with factions such as the Responders, BoS, Cult of Mothman, and Free States?

Is it possible to roleplay a Raider, or are the Raiders just NPCs?

I am a tad bit hesitant about raiders. But as long as you aren't killing relentlessly and causing ceaseless violence for no reason, you can be a raider.

The New Gethsemane Republic is essentially a theocracy founded by the Prophet, Joseph Hampton, in 2078 (a year after the nuclear strike in America). Hampton, who originally settled in Mill Creek, Randolph Country since the 2050s, was one of the town's more influential residents, frequently attending the church, sponsoring the town's projects, as well being one of the town's richest residents (as a manager of a lumber company). He was also a zealous Methodist. When the Chinese nuclear strike hit most of the United States' East Coast, society collapsed and the town was left with no authority. Residents started leaving - including Joseph, who left in search of a safe, vast, and empty plot of land to settle again. He proclaimed the foundation of New Gethsemane along with his "Heralds" (the people he was closest to before the "Great Collapse" or nuclear strike) - a high school teacher (The Evangelist), the town's deputy sheriff (The Crusader), and a nurse at the town's clinic (The Steward). There are approximately 20 to 30 people following them. New Gethsemane brought wagons and carts of supplies, livestock, and weapons during this period. After approximately one month of journey they discovered an enclosed, forested hill adjacent to a flat river valley (their present location ), situated quite close to an old railroad track as well. Several abandoned houses and a barn lies in the area unoccupied. This is where they would bulid the new settlement called New Gethsemane that would serve as a conduit of trade and travel in the eastern Forest region until now.

Approximate size of New Gethsemane would be somewhere around 80 to 90 people at maximum, as they are quite small compared to other settlements. The goals and motivations are officially to create a "New Eden", a religious society based on the teachings of Prophet Joe Hampton - it is also a peaceful and neutral stop for travellers seeking to travel into the Savage Divide from the Forests and vice versa. New Gethsemane is a fairly peaceful society, though they aren't out of ammunitions and fighting morale is strong if they need to fight.

Relations:
  • Raiders: New Gethsemane absolutely despises raiders, and as the Prophet said, "Brigands of the Adversary". Raiders commonly attack New Gethsemane outposts and stole their supplies, with no regards to things like diplomacy or talking down.
  • Enclave: In New Gethsemane, there is almost nothing known about the Enclave save for several rumours and hearsays. Whoever they are, if they respected the Prophet's teachings and his flock (the citizens), New Gethsemane is open towards them.
  • Responders: New Gethsemane regards the Responders as partners and allies if need be. They often supplied the Responders with much-needed construction material, weapons, and ammunition; in return, the Responders also helped with the maintenance and construction of New Gethsemane outposts. Responders are cordially welcomed in New Gethsemane.
  • Order of Mysteries: Pretty much the same as the Responders, albeit if not with very slight prejudice by New Gethsemane members because of their secretive nature.
  • Free States: Mostly indifferent, as New Gethsemane thinks of them as just another settler nation.
  • Brotherhood of Steel: Relations with the BoS is neutral to slightly bad, as the Brotherhood has been known to extract resources and materials from settlers - including New Gethsemane members venturing inside their territory. Most of the time the Brotherhood is seen as just another distant trade partner.
  • Cult of Mothman: Very poor, violent, and extreme rivalry. The Mothman's followers are regarded as devil worshippers by New Gethsemane, antithesis to the Prophet's teachings.

That looks good. Your faction may see dense traffic from the Responders as they operate in the Forest Region and their group, the Fire Breathers, work across the Forest Region and Ash Heap.

Though I am unsure about the capacity of your faction, simply because I don't know how it would compare to other factions. The capacities of these other factions are never explicitly stated in lore. I am also worried by the amount of power your character would have over other players given he's the leader of a zealous faction with so many members and presumably resources at his disposal.

I'll need some time to think it over, but if you or anyone else has anything I should consider on the topic of the faction and player, feel free to say so.

I can scale down the size if need be. To be honest, the Prophet will mainly just be sitting on the New Gethsemane Temple during the course of the RP - it's through his Heralds I'm going to write actively. And looking from their stats, just one of them probably would have a hard time surviving alone in the wilderness, since some of them are lacking in one aspect and excellent in another (i.e. intelligence vs strength, charisma vs endurance, etc)

It would just be a backdrop, since they'll be more involved in adventure storylines far removed from the New Gethsemane town.

Ok. I can dig it. Approved.

For the introduction of this rp, the players will be captured by the mothman cultists and must either escape or become inducted into the cult. Which of your heralds would you like to participate in this event?

I know this was a question pointed directly at one person, but I have a question in regards to that too actually. Would it be possible that only my main and one companion has been nabbed by our friendly neighborhood mothmen? I would prefer if one companion remained in Harper's Ferry I kind of doubt they would be willing to send out more than one of their med staff at a time anyway when well trained medics are likely hard to come by.

One of them, probably The Crusader. I'll have Evangelist and Steward wandering outside.

Quick side note: This will come close to a Sweet Home Alabama situation later.

In response to the previous posts: I will allow your main character and one companion to be captured by the Mothmen in the introduction of this RP. If you want neither your companions nor main character to be captured, please state so. When the rp begins, there will be some time where the captured try to work together to escape (or decide to give themselves to the almighty Mothman). Later on, especially if the captured group does not find much success, other characters and companions can track the cultist outpost and aid their escape from the outside.

Glad to hear! The RP will start out with a scenario imposed on all players, the cultist capture, just to make sure the characters form some sort of bond or interact in some way; with characters all across the map with various interests and goals, it might be difficult for them to interact otherwise. But the rest of this rp will hopefully be more freeform.

I'll be like a DM of a split party allowing people to go off on their own adventures. Feel free to suggest a story or plot hook you want for your characters at any time in this thread (it'll be the OOC thread but I haven't renamed it as such yet) or telegrams if you'd prefer. I'd be happy to set something up for your guys' characters.

Though players can also control NPCs like the arbitrary raider they punch in the face with the power and fury of a nuclear bomb, as a Dungeon Master of sorts, I'll try to help narrate the events that follow the players' actions. This can be, for example, having the raider band who witnessed their leader get bitch slapped with the fire and fury of a nuclear bomb cower in fear in the face of their bitch slapping foe and co. I'll also determine what loot players get for pickpocketing, looting a location or container, or compensation should they finish a job.

A lot of my DMing though will be reliant upon what you guys want. Please communicate what you'd like me to do to make your experience more engaging. For example, if you want your character to get a job pursuing a bounty, tell me in OOC and any other details you want regarding the bounty and I can go from there.

Every so often, I might try to make an event that encourages players to get together, like a job escorting a caravan across Appalachia and back, or hunting down some technology.
