If you want to divide india on ethnic lines I think this map works pretty well.

A = Afghanistan (Kabul)
B = Balochistan (Karachi)
S = Sindh (Faisalabad)
D = Delhi (New Delhi)
G = Gujarat (Ahmedabad)
T = Tamil (Coimbatore)
M = Malwa (Hyderabad)
B = Bengal (Dhaka)

Capitals are in Parentheses

As to Indonesia, I would say its probs more likely they'd stick together, after the Dutch left there was nothing requiring Indonesians to stick together, but the people voted and the government then decided that they felt united as a people after the dutch left, so to that end I think its more likely that Indonesia would stay together, besides any nations that would result from a balkanized indonesia would be to small or insignificant for anyone to actually care.

I mean a strong contender for a seperatist state in indonesia would be Aceh and New guinea, but yes besides those two i couldn't rlly think of any other good reason for others to rlly break away from ID,

Same thing with India.

I think this can be really good, on level with actual 2024 even. Graphics, designs, summaries, statuses and a good team and you're sorted.

Major Chinese Political Factions
Xinziyou Clique (Neoliberalism, centre-right to right-wing): The most right-wing faction in the KMT, the Xinziyou Clique advocates for laissez-faire economics. It believes that the government is better off focusing more on social, diplomatic and military issues, thus leaving economic issues to both individual citizens and privately-owned enterprises. Regarding nationalism, the faction supports a conservative form of civic nationalism that mixes socially conservative elements with purely nationalist ones, while advocating for economically liberal policies. It does, however, stay faithful to the Three Principles of the People, by which it wants to replace most taxes with a flat LVT (land value tax). Regarding conservatism, it is very conservative on social issues (which includes opposition to LGBT rights, abortion, prostitution, pornography and drugs), as well as being very neoconservative on both military and diplomatic issues. The faction's name, when translated in English, refers to neoliberalism.
Guoziben Clique (State-Sponsored Capitalism, centre-right): The dominant faction in the KMT, the Guoziben Clique advocates for a state-sponsored form of capitalism, by which it wants the government to invest in certain sectors of the economy in order to stimulate the growth of new and/or specific industries in the private sector. Likely to be the KMT's oldest faction, the Guoziben Clique also wants the government to retain control over state-owned enterprises such as CSBC (Chinese Shipbuilding Corporation), CPC (Chinese Petroleum Corporation) and AIDC (Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation). Regarding nationalism, it appears to be culturally nationalist, yet it promotes the so-called "national champions", which are privately-owned enterprises that not only seeks profit, but also advances Chinese interests (both inside and outside of China). Regarding conservatism, this faction is likely to be liberal conservative, which makes it less traditionalist than the Xinziyou Clique. Regarding OTL, this clique is very similar to the current political state of the KMT (I think). The faction's name is derived from the Chinese word for state capitalism.
Fulichang Clique (Protectionism, centre to centre-right): The most centrist faction in the KMT, the Fulichang Clique advocates for a social market economy that is compatible with Minsheng (People's Livelihood), one of the "Three Principles of the People". It seeks to implement universal healthcare, equal opportunity, land reform and welfare programs, while advocating for protectionist measures against "foreign imperialism". It supports both privately-owned enterprises and state-owned enterprises, yet favors the latter over the former. It also wants to nationalize certain strategic industries, protect the environment, minimize Chinese emigration to other countries and increase taxes on the rich. Since the KMT is a conservative party, the Fulichang Clique adheres to both paternalistic conservatism and green conservatism, while being similar to the Guoziben Clique (as both factions are less traditionalist than the Xinziyou Clique). The faction's name is derived from "welfare market" in Chinese.
Guomihao Clique (Han Chauvinism, right-wing to far-right): The most radical faction in the KMT, the Guomihao Clique seeks to both promote and defend Han Chinese interests. It is more socially conservative than the other KMT factions (even more conservative than the Xinziyou Clique), as well as being both ethnically and economically ultranationalist. It maintain a more stronger loyalty to the Three Principles, yet it shares some similarities with the defunct Blue Shirts Society. It commonly advocates for Han Chinese ultranationalism, socially conservative values, economic nationalization, balanced population growth, harsher immigration control and less Westernization. It has been highly accused of racism by both the SHD and the other KMT factions. Its name is derived from two Chinese words, "guomin" (国民) and "zihao" (自豪), which would jointly mean "national pride".

Hengxiang Clique (Democratic Socialism, centre-left to left-wing): The most left-wing faction in the SHD, the Hengxiang Clique advocates for a decentrally-planned economy. Since the SHD is extremely opposed to centralized planning (due to that being synonymous with communism), the Hengxiang Clique believes decentralized planning is a better alternative that can fully achieve economic equality. On the other hand, the faction also supports social equality, green politics, welfare programs and participatory democracy, as well as wanting to decrease military spending and implement land reform. The faction's name is Chinese for "horizontal", which is a clear reference to decentralized planning.
Shehuzhi Clique (Social Democracy, centre-left): The dominant faction in the SHD, the Shehuzhi Clique advocates for a social democratic economy based on both the Nordic model and other similar models. It promotes equal opportunity, social ownership, income redistribution and participatory democracy. It also promotes universal healthcare, collective bargaining, fair trade and green politics. The faction's name is Chinese for "social well-being".
Disanlu Clique (Third Way, centre to centre-left): The most centrist faction in the SHD, the Disanlu Clique advocates for an economy that is derived from Third Way politics. Having doubt regarding the economic viability of the state and the overuse of economically interventionist policies that were popularized by Keynesianism, the Disanlu Clique supports the pursuit of greater egalitarianism in society through action to increase the distribution of skills, capacities and productive endowments as the means to achieve this, while also rejecting income redistribution, excessive state intervention and other notable aspects of social democracy. It emphasises commitment to balanced budgets, providing equal opportunity which is combined with an emphasis on personal responsibility, the decentralization of government power to the lowest level possible, encouragement and promotion of public–private partnerships, improving labour supply, investment in human development, preservation of social capital and protection of the environment. The faction's name literally means "Third Way".
Xinzuopai Clique (Chinese New Left, left-wing to far-left): The most radical faction in the SHD, the Xinzuopai Clique advocates for the revival of old Maoist-era ideas, while mixing them with modern-day democratic values. Many supporters of this faction generally believe that a leftist economic model should be found to tackle China's dependence on exports and savings, reduce the growing economic gap between rural and urban areas, and stimulate private business through public ownership and state planning. It also advocates for labour-capital partnership, democratically centralized planning, socially egalitarian policies, domestic consumption, increased police presence and less Westernization. It is largely unpopular among most SHD members, who accuses it of being "crypto-communist", as well as suspecting that it is a remnant of the defunct CCP. The faction's name literally means "New Left".

PS: This is a more detailed info about the factions within both the KMT and the SHD.

Wouldn't it be better to let the players decide the parties and such, so that they have more control over their own political atmospheres and a better understanding?

also makes it a lot less work for you. You should still create a general atmosphere, ofc, but like leave the individual and small things to the players.

Is there any significant lore for the USA? It could be interesting to play out a third red scare and a large counter culture movement.
then again it doesn't seem this thread has been all too active has it? Cool Idea tho

I think that sounds good, yet I want the US to have the exact same Presidents up to 2020, as well as even incorporate elements of "2024: The Long Peace", which would also include the Virumaa Crisis and the dissolution of NATO into Toronto Pact and CESDOT.

On the other hand, I think this RP won't open anytime soon, but this thread will stay alive as long as we can finish the backstory and add in more ideas. I plan on creating a substitute for this RP, which is also based on another RP. It is AH and will be set in 2030. I will be the US in that RP (in this RP, I am Russia). More information coming soon.

That sounds cool but I uh... don’t know any of that haha. I’ll probably play along with it as long as I can get RP a nation on a razors edge. Reactionaries witch hunting communists and a radicalized new left taking to the streets. Maybe even an armed conflict? 10 years still gives me plenty of room to play around with even with some of those restrictions I assume

Is there a threat for this other RP? I might be interested in picking up another country even if it isn’t the US

I would love to continue the worldbuilding and create this RP in time, but I might have other RPs to create. I might wanna make "Anno 1900", which is an Alt-His RP based on the Alt Div RPs, the New Imperialism RPs and some other similar RPs. Then there is "New Age", which is a RP set somewhere in the 22nd century, and there is also "2030: A Changed World" (previously called "2030: The Changed World"), which is likely going to be a successor to the probably-dead "2021: A New Decade".

However, this thread will continue to be active and open until an OOC thread would be made for "2024: Cold Interbellum". I just want to keep interests in this RP alive (since there are not so many Nation RPs that are available and/or active right now).

This thread has been up since last October. Surely it’s already served its purpose in gauging interest well already. At some point you need to actually launch a RP.

Above is the official application form for this RP, but don't use it yet until the OOC thread has been opened. I just want to use it for my own application (in order to keep Russia to myself).

Domestic Issues: Ethnic separatism and political dissent
Foreign Issues: Donbass War, Kalinian independence, territorial disputes and international sanctions

History: Same as IRL with some minor changes in 1969, followed by major ones several years later.

In 1969, a border conflict between the USSR and the PRC eventually turns into an all-out war, which resulted in Soviet victory. Following this, the USSR annexes both Xinjiang (as Uyghur ASSR) and Heilongjiang (as Harbin Oblast). The aftermath also weakened China, who was already both experiencing the Cultural Revolution and recovering from the Great Leap Forward. On the other hand, the USSR (and later Russia) would be locked in a conflict with Uyghur separatists in Xinjiang.

In 1993, during a constitutional crisis, Boris Yeltsin is overthrown by the Communist Party of Russia, which was formed by Ivan Zakhaev, a high-ranked KGB officer, as a successor to the CPSU. Following the coup, the KPR, reformed the Russian Federation as the Russian People's Federation, which incorporates some elements of the defunct PRC, including a socialist market economy and many government-approved parties. However, the remnants of the Russian Federation fled to Kaliningrad Oblast, which was subsequently declared independent from Russia as the Republic of Kalinia. With this, the Baltic Fleet is subsequently split between Kalinia and Russia, with only a small fraction of the fleet remaining loyal towards Russia, while a larger fraction defected and later reformed itself as the Kalinian Navy. At the same time, both ground and air forces present in Kalinia would reform themselves as the Kalinian Army and the Kalinian Air Force. Ever since this event, conflict has been brewing between Russia and Kalinia, while Kalinia continues to serve as a sanctuary for pro-democracy activists who had fled Russia. Mikhail Gorbachev, the final ruler of the USSR, was among those who fled to Kalinia following the KPR-led coup d'etat (mainly due to the KPR considering him to be responsible for the downfall of the USSR).

In 1994, both Abkhazia and South Ossetia join Russia as autonomous republics.

By 1995, Russia was able to recover its Soviet-era GDP per capita levels, mainly thanks to the economics reforms that were implemented by the KPR two years earlier.

In 1996, Russia and Belarus was holding talks about cooperation between the two countries. The talks results in Belarus willingly joining Russia as a very autonomous republic (similar to a SAR) with Alexander Lukashenko as Chief Executive.

In 1997, three bombs explodes on three buses in Ürümqi, Xinjiang (now called the Uyghur Republic or simply Uyghuristan), killing nine people (including three children) and injuring 28 more. Uyghur separatists claimed responsibility for the bombings, citing them as retribution for the execution of 30 suspected separatists and the subsequent Gulja Incident, where nine protesters were killed by the Russian security forces.

In 1998, ethnic Georgians launch an insurgency in Abkhazia, which is crushed by the Russian military within a week. At the same time, the Russian government forms a technology conglomerate named "Tenchensky" (obviously a Russian version of Tencent).

From 1999 to 2000, Russia invaded and then annexed the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria following the Islamist invasion of Dagestan. Low-level insurgency would continue until 2017.

In 2000, Gennady Yanayev, who briefly served as the head of the USSR during the failed August Coup and subsequently succeeded Ivan Zakhaev (who was dying at the time) as the Secretary-General of the KPR, is officially elected President of Russia. Following his election, Gennady promises to continue Ivan's policies and appoints Vladimir Putin as Premier. Two months later, Ivan Zakhaev dies and is given a state funeral.

In 2002, Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan forms the Common Defense Pact (CDP).

Between 2003 and 2005, Gennady implement several reforms, which includes relaxed relations with the West, active Russian participation in the US-led ISAF and creation of new infrastructure in several Russian cities designed to attract entrepreneurs and established high-tech companies to Russia. Despite this, the Russian economy remains socialist and Russia is still engaging in territorial disputes with China, Japan and Georgia.

In 2008, war breaks out between Russia and Georgia over the control of both Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Lasting for twelve days, the war ends in Russian victory. However, economic crisis hits Russia at the same time (due to the Great Recession that began in 2007). Protests erupts across Russia as a result. The economic crisis would last until 2009, while Gennady Yanayev steps down as President and is succeeded by Dmitri Medvedev.

In 2010, Gennady dies and is given a state funeral as a result of his contribution to Russia and its people.

In 2012, Dmitri is succeeded by Sasha Yenkov, who implements a new state ideology called "Yenkovism" (which is a Russian version of the Xi Jinping Thought). Since assuming power, Sasha has introduced far-ranging measures to enforce party discipline and impose internal unity. Sasha also appoints Vladimir Putin as Premier.

In 2013, Euromaidan takes place in Ukraine, which causes Russian influence in the country to decrease significantly.

In 2014, as a response to Euromaidan, the Russian military invades and occupies Crimea, while pro-Russian uprising occurs in eastern Ukraine. Subsequently, Crimea officially joins Russia, while Donetsk Oblast and Luhansk Oblast secedes from Ukraine. This results in both diplomatic and economic sanctions being imposed on Russia. Despite these sanctions, many Western companies are able to find profit in Russia, which is mainly due to Russia being more stronger than IRL (so the sanctions only annoys it) and that the Russian market is just as strong as the real-world Chinese market.

In 2015, pro-Russian uprising spreads to Kharkiv Oblast and Sumy Oblast. Both are subsequently annexed by Russia two years later.

In 2016, in order expand the Baltic Fleet, Russia purchases both Ida-Viruuma and Lääne-Viruuma from Estonia, which leads to further conflict with the EU. At the same time, Russia is accused of interfering with the 2016 US Presidential Election, which it fiercely denies.

In 2019, the Legislative Council of Belarus proposes a controversial extradition bill, that makes it possible for Russian authorities to extradit fugitives from Belarus. This causes massive protests across Belarus, which becomes more violent as time passes. Controversy further ensues as an eSports player is punished by Blizzard for voicing his support of the Belarusian protests. Following this, criticism gets directed at Western companies who are basically pandering to Russia due to profit, which is followed by boycott and concern from foreign governments. At the same time, Russia began setting up re-education camps in Uyghuristan and placing Uyghurs, Kazakhs and other Muslim groups there.

In 2020, the Supreme Assembly passes a "National Security Law", which causes further diplomatic controversy. At the same time, the re-education camps causes more controversy and leads to further condemnation from many governments, although some countries voices their support for Russia and its "counter-terrorist measures", which includes the re-education camps. At the same time, Russia sends peacekeeping troops to Nagorno-Karabakh when war breaks out between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Between 2021 and 2024, protests have grown exponentially across Belarus, with even calls for secession from Russia. In response to this, the Russian military declares martial law in Belarus with the blessing of Alexander Lukashenko.

The year is now 2024 and Russia shall achieve its goals, be it the easy way or the hard way.

This sounds like a great setting! Would you think that it's a straight 2-sides Cold War (with maybe Non-aligned movement) or perhaps a 3-way Cold War with say for instance a resurgent fascist Japan and Indonesia?
