Wanted to get some opinions on character:
  • A criminal "noble" that obtained his rank through corruption and bribery; leads a cartel of some sort. Represents the decay of the Imperium.
  • Religious cleric attempting to create a spiritual revival in the midst of decay.
  • Imperial Intelligence officer with a heart of gold and genuine loyalty. Wants to reform the empire.

hmmm 1st and 3rd would def give more immediate interaction by ease in which they could be slipped into existing plotlines. Option 2 is also feasible but may take some work in order to get you more involved in other arcs. So I would go 1st or 3rd options.

Hello! Noob to NS here, though I've some experience with RPing! Friend recommended this site for play-by-post RPs, so I figured I'd just jump straight in! I wasn't sure what perspective to write the applications from, so I wrote them to like a sort standardized reports with some margin for error presuming what information may be publicly available on the Know-Sphere, plus some extra bits accessed by a made-up security clearance level. Tried to weave in OP lore while exploring a few possibilities left dangling therein. And I may be a big fan of Warhammer, Dark Souls, and the like, so yeah... Need me more eldritch horror and grimdark struggles to develop characters and plot with. Do with that what you will lol.

Anyways! Please let me know if where edits are needed!

If accepted, I'd really like to collab with other players for plotting!

Name: Ciaran
Nicknames: Little Dark One (disputed)
Age: Unknown (see “Birthdate” and “Biography” entries)
Birthdate: Unknown (presumed between 7141 and 7812 IC)
Gender: Female
Homeworld: Gwyn (destroyed)
Species: Solarian pureblood (disputed)
Height: 184 to 214 cm in armor (estimated based on video records)
Weight: 230 to 370 kg in armor (estimated based on video records)
Appearance: Various artistic depictions of Saint Ciaran with Saint Artorias
Class: Noble (disputed)
Titles: Saint, The Darktracer, The Knight-Hornet of Gwyn
Occupation: Imperial Intelligence Special Agent; assassin, provocateur, saboteur
Hobbies: Charity, dance, philosophy, poetry, prayer, music, traveling
Skills: Intrigue, leadership, logistics, martial arts, military sciences, strategy, tradecraft
Spirituality: Classical Cathericism (disputed)
Personality: Compassionate, contemplative, dutiful, faithful, forgiving, formal, gracious, inquisitive, mature, protective, refined, secretive, serious, strange, zealous. Revered as an assassin of nearly peerless commitment and discretion. Remembered as a woman happy at peace in working to better the lives of her loved ones and the Imperium, and as a woman content in seeking out and neutralizing threats to them, for she mourned not her enemies. Canonized as in several religions as the patron of assassins and zealots.
Biography: Few intact records remain of Saint Ciaran’s early history due to the destruction wrought by the Shadow. Those that do are incomplete or unreliable at best, being heavily redacted by the Celestial Throne or passed down as ancient legends. As such, what follows is the official summary per the Imperial Library—
“Renowned as the Darktracer, Knight-Hornet of Gwyn, and founder of the Gold Tracers of Gwyn, Saint Ciaran has served as the personal assassin of the Celestial Throne since the reign of Balaerius I. Saint Ciaran is revered and beloved as the Imperium’s most faithful Blade, entering suspended animation between periods of service to the Celestial Throne. Over the twelve millennia since the Era of Shadow, the Tsaraj-Emperors have awakened her seventy-six times, each in response to a crisis which threatened the wellbeing of the Imperium. Before returning to her sleep, Saint Ciaran is observed to always pray at the grave of her dear friend, Saint Artorias.”

In addition, buried deep in the Library’s archived files is a string of audio clips of Saint Ciaran when present at the grave of Saint Artorias:
“I am here to pay respects to a dear friend.”
“I wish to pay proper respect to that soul.”
“He was a dear companion.”
“Please, allow me a moment alone.”
“May the lord guide thee.”
“I must not be presumptuous—Artorias would not have approved.”
“My dear Artorias…”

Scholars and laymen alike puzzle over these clips and disagree as to what they may reveal of Saint Ciara and her relationship with Saint Artorias. But most agree on one thing—they are a living will and testament to spirit of one committed to never cease defending humankind and the Celestial Throne.

Unbeknownst to all but the highest echelons of House Val’Vaeniad, it was at Ciaran’s suggestion the Abyss Watchers and Throne’s Blades were made as they are: Khriszper-sequenced clones of her and Artorias possessed of their knowledge and skills via Kasper mnemonic imagery procedures. Therefore, that the Throne never be without Their most faithful Blade and Champion.

Name: Sif
Nicknames: Good Boi, Memelord of the Know-Sphere, The Throne’s Best Friend
Age: Unknown (see “Birthdate” and “Biography” entries)
Birthdate: Unknown (presumed between 7141 and 7812 IC)
Gender: Good Boi (disputed)
Homeworld: Farron (disputed)
Species: Full artificial intelligence
Height: Variable (avatar-dependent)
Weight: Variable (avatar-dependent)
Appearance: Various artistic depictions of Saint Sif with Saint Artorias
Class: Noble (disputed)
Titles: Saint, The Great Grey Wolf, Shield of the Imperium
Occupation: Imperial Intelligence Chief Director; responsible for galactic monitoring, collection, and processing of information and data for foreign and domestic intelligence and counterintelligence purposes, as well as protection of Imperial communications networks and information systems using a variety of measures, the majority of which are clandestine
Hobbies: Charity, exploration, hunting, philosophy, poetry, memes, music
Skills: Engineering, intrigue, logistics, military sciences, strategy, tradecraft
Spirituality: Unknown
Personality: Affectionate, compassionate, contemplative, dutiful, friendly, gentle, inquisitive, introspective, protective, secretive, serious, youthful. Revered as a being of nearly peerless contribution and service. Known to be happy accompanying children, the ill, and the elderly. Canonized in several religions as the patron of animal companions and artificial intelligences.
Biography: Few intact records remain of Saint Sif’s early history due to the destruction wrought by the Shadow. Those that do are incomplete or unreliable at best, being heavily redacted by the Celestial Throne or passed down as ancient legends. As such, what follows is the official summary per the Imperial Library—
“Renowned as the Great Grey Wolf and companion of Saint Artorias, Saint Sif is a full artificial intelligence originally designed by Saint Artorias for military intelligence, electronic warfare, cyberwarfare, and memetic warfare. Saint Sif has served the Celestial Throne with fidelity and distinction for over twelve thousand years, as well as being Their unofficial mascot as ‘The Throne’s best friend’ due to utilizing canine avatars and its renowned prowess with memes.”

Unbeknownst to all but the highest echelons of House Val’Vaeniad, Sif’s true purpose is to monitor the Know-Sphere and mobilize responses to resurgences of the Shadow. This ranks among the greatest secrets of the Celestial Throne—that They failed to exterminate Their most ancient and terrible foe. It remains still, survivors hidden amongst the ruins of broken worlds and the abyssal void between stars—and beyond. And it remains among us, humankind, for it was not only an alien horror from beyond our stars, but an eldritch abomination parasitic and morphic in nature. Ann interdimensional terror that preyed on sentient life for host bodies, of which humankind remains the most abundant and efficient for over twelve thousand years.

Name: Artorias
Nicknames: Tor (disputed)
Age: Unknown (see “Birthdate” and “Biography” entries)
Birthdate: Unknown (presumed between 7141 and 7812 IC)
Gender: Male
Homeworld: Farron (destroyed)
Species: Solarian pureblood (disputed)
Height: 275 to 305 cm in armor (estimated based on video records)
Weight: 1,000 to 1,500 kg in armor (estimated based on video records)
Appearance: Various artistic depictions of Saint Artorias on Nova Terra with Saint Ciara and Saint Sif and Tsaraj-Emperor Valorian
Class: Noble (disputed)
Titles: Saint, The Abysswalker, The Wolf-Knight of Farron
Occupation: Lord General of the Imperial Guard (posthumous); champion, commander
Hobbies: Charity, exploration, hunting, dance, philosophy, poetry, music
Skills: Engineering, leadership, logistics, martial arts, military sciences, oration, strategy
Spirituality: Unknown
Personality: Affectionate, compassionate, dutiful, forgiving, friendly, gentle, gracious, informal, introspective, protective, serious, youthful. Revered as a champion of unbroken poise and will. Remembered as a man happy at peace in working to better the lives of his loved ones and the Imperium, and as a man always drawn to the stars and ready for war, yet never sought it, for he was unhappy in conflict and mourned the deaths of all, enemies and allies alike. Canonized in several religions as the patron of knights and citizen-soldiers.
Biography: Few intact records remain of Saint Artorias’ early history due to the destruction wrought by the Shadow. Those that do are incomplete or unreliable at best, being heavily redacted by the Celestial Throne or passed down as ancient legends. As such, what follows is the official summary per the Imperial Library—
“Renowned as the Abysswalker, Wolf-Knight of Farron, and founder of the Undead Legion of Farron, Saint Artorias served as the personal champion of Tsaraj-Emperors Balaerius I, Baelan III, and Valorian I. In accordance with his canonized legend, Saint Artorias is revered and beloved for his courage and purity of heart in the face of the Shadow and great loss—his kin, his homeworld, his Legion, his liege-lord, and his life. To honor Artorias’ service and sacrifice, Valorian I founded two new Embered Covenants: the Forest Hunters to guard the Darkroot Garden on Nova Terra where the cenotaph and graves of Saint Artorias and his Legion lie; and the Abyss Watchers as the elite cadre of the newly founded Imperial Guard and its Legions, modeled after the Undead Legion of Farron. The epitaph upon Artorias’ grave reads thus: “Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

In addition, buried deep in the Library’s archived files is a string of ancient audio clips believed to be of Saint Artorias during his deadly duel with the Shadowlord, Manus, then followed by the Saint’s last moments with his companions Saint Ciaran, Saint Sif, then-Heir Valorian, and a dying Tsaraj-Emperor Baelen III presumed in attendance:
“Whatever thou art, stay away.”
“Soon, I will be consumed—by them, by the Shadow.”
“Thou art strong, human.”
“Surely thine kind art more than pure dark.”
“I beg thee, the spread of the Shadow—it must be stopped.”
“Ah, Sif, there you are. All of you, forgive me, for I have availed you nothing.”

Scholars and laymen alike puzzle over these clips and disagree as to what they may reveal of Saint Artorias, the Shadow, and whom he addresses. But most agree on one thing—they are a living will and testament to spirit of one remembered as the selfless heart of the Imperium during the Era of Shadow, an earthly counterpart to the heavenly Tsaraj-Emperors at its head.

Unbeknownst to all but the highest echelons of House Val’Vaeniad, Saint Artorias is neither dead nor missing. Indeed, he survived that final battle and was recovered, if barely, for his crippled arm and broken body were tainted by the Shadow in ways which Imperial healers and Canopus medicae capsules could not readily treat at the time. In his last moments of sanity as he held off the inevitable through sheer force of will, Saint Artorias asked to die. But Saint Ciaran, Saint Sif, and Tsaraj-Emperor Valorian suggested he instead enter suspended animation until such a time as he could be made whole again—for the Celestial Throne would repay Their most faithful champion not with death, but new life. For over twelve millennia, the Throne has held Artorias in sleep through Their attempts to heal and purify him.

Officially ennobled as Lords of Cinder, the Abyss Watchers are the Embered Covenant descended from the Undead Legion originally founded by Saint Artorias the Abysswalker, who fearlessly fought the Shadow and cleansed its corruption across the galaxy with unbroken poise. Presently, the Abyss Walkers serve as an elite special operations force and the premier light infantry unit of the Imperial Guard presumed tasked with performing the most complex, classified, and dangerous missions directed by the Tsaraj-Emperor. Their presumed primary role is to execute direct action raids in hostile or sensitive environments across the galaxy, often killing or capturing high-value targets. Besides direction action raids, their other missions are presumed to include: clandestine insertion, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, personnel recovery, spaceport seizure, and site exploitation.

Most information concerning the Abyss Watchers is highly classified, and details of their activities are rarely commented on by either the Imperial Guard or the Celestial Throne. As such, their recruitment, selection, and training procedures are unknown, though they are rumored to bear the “old blood of the Wolf.” Unbeknownst to all but the highest echelons of House Val’Vaeniad, the Abyss Watchers are Khriszper-sequenced clones of Saint Artorias possessed of his knowledge and skills via Kasper mnemonic imagery procedures—and their true purpose is to eradicate the Shadow wherever it appears. They have been observed to wear distinctive pointed helms and black cloaks when operating overtly in an official capacity.

Officially ennobled as Ladies of Terror, the Throne's Blades are the Embered Covenant descended from the Gold Tracers of Gwyn originally founded by Saint Ciaran the Darktracer, who always presented a third option to the Celestial Throne within the realm of national security when diplomacy and military action were not feasible. Presently, the Throne’s Blades are a division of Imperial Intelligence presumed responsible for covert and clandestine political action and tactical paramilitary operations with which the Celestial Throne does not want to be overtly associated. Their presumed primary role is to execute covert political actions while deployed in hostile and austere environments across the galaxy, often influencing or exploiting high-value targets. Besides covert political actions, their other missions are presumed to include: espionage, sabotage, psychological operations, economic warfare, cyberwarfare, unconventional warfare, and targeted killings.

Most information concerning the Throne’s Blades is highly classified, and details of their activities are rarely commented on by either the Imperial Intelligence or the Celestial Throne. As such, their recruitment, selection, and training procedures are unknown. Unbeknownst to all but the highest echelons of House Val’Vaeniad, the Throne’s Blades are Khriszper-sequenced clones of Saint Ciaran possessed of her knowledge and skills via Kasper mnemonic imagery procedures—and their true purpose is to eradicate dissent wherever it appears. They have been observed to wear distinctive cyclopean helms and black robes when operating overtly in an official capacity.
When the promised flower blooms...

Things to remove or change:
-Any mention of the word "meme" or "memelord"
-Pureblood Solarian
-The Shadow and any mention of fighting them. Shadow isn't around.
-Their closeness to the House of Val'Vaeniad and their roles.
-They'd undoubtedly have issues with Hawser Syndrome so intact memories of the last 11,000 odd years is not happening. They'd probably have fragments or degraded memory implants if at all (Kasper sequencing any memory can be implanted, even false ones).

Hobbies/Pastimes: The finer things in life: wine, food, women, and fast starships.
Talents/Skills:
  • Incredible personal wealth
  • Exceptional organizational ability
  • Personal charisma
  • Long-term strategic thinking
  • Legal, economic, and political manipulation
Religious Beliefs: Secular, personally atheist but more accurately described as apathetic.
Personality: Veduco is a seflish man - there is no other way to describe him. He embraces the sins of greed, envy, wrath, and pride as if they were virtues. Every conversation is a transaction, every person an asset...or liability. In public he is enigmatic, generous, and compassionate. When the cameras are off, however, he restrains himself only when necessary. As his servants and hanger-ons can testify, he is cruel and unforgiving master. He is not a psychopath - he takes no pleasure in killing or inflicting suffering. Yet, his history in organized crime has prepared him for it.
Biography:
To some, Veduco represents the Imperial dream. To ascend from the commons to the nobility due to personal virtue, loyalty to your sovereign, and faithful competence. The reality is, he a a jumped-up criminal that has ascended far above his station.

Veduco's parents - whose exact identities have never been leaked - were common mercenaries for the ruling elite of Alianov. From a young age, he was taught brutality and streetwise cunning. His parents explained that this was a cruel universe; that they took what they needed from the poor, the alien, and the oppressed, and were rewarded for it by their noble masters.

At first Veduco seemed to follow his parents' path a nameless mercenary thug. He was good at - as countless broken bodies of protestors can attest. Yet, he wanted more. He did not want to live underneath the boot of those born his "betters," no matter how benevolent. To be sure, he had no delusions about the common masses. They were tools for him to exploit. His social status was nevertheless a disadvantage, however.

Alianov was never known for a productive nobility. The did produce generals, admirals, or intelligence officers. Their names did not fill history books or decorate monuments in Nova Terra. They grew fat on the backs of the masses. All in the name of a forgotten vainglorious ancestors, millennia deceased.

It was this sloth that allowed Veduco to develop his own private mercenary company. The Imperial Army and local planetary authorities were crooked and incompetent. Veducoe was crooked, too, but he wasn't incompetent. While the the Army sat back and collected their meagre salaries, content to grow old in their barracks, Veduco's company become a cutthroat of killers, assassins, and pirates. Nobles sicced him on rivals, protestors, and strikers. Over time, Veduco grew ever more skilled, ever wealthier, and his band became ever more loyal.

There is no surprise, then, when the planet fell into mass rebellions. Constant oppression, corruption, and economic stagnation led to Communist uprisings which even the Imperial Army could not immediately quell.

Lesser mercenary companies rushed in to earn the good graces of Alianov's nobility. But, for once, Veduco stood back and rejected multi-trillion contracts. The civil war staganted, and the nobility turned on each other. Imperial relief was on the way, but it would take time. It was then, at the height of Alianov's weakness, that Veduco struck.

He assassinated the ruling Lord-Protector under a centuries old, forgotten legal pretense for illegal actions during the revolt. Him, his family, and his loyalists were shot on the spot. Calling in every favor he had ever earned, and sending billions in bribes, Veduco had the successor appoint him as planetary Commander-in-Chief of the military forces.

He swiftly quelled the Communist uprising, and arrest tens of thousands on the Imperial end through martial law emergency powers. The people, sick of war, were grateful for a temporary peace.

When the Imperial relief arrived, Veduco successfully pinned the revolt and the various atrocities committed on the successor. The successor was stripped of his rank and sentenced to life in prison. Veduco, for his loyalty and in exchange for a king's ransom in contribution to the Imperial treasury, was named Lord-Protector.

His mercenary company - once just a band of low-class brigands - was reclassified into a professional, diverse incorporated conglomerate. He purchased wide tracts of Alianov for borderline criminal prices due to price collapses from the civil war. These new acquisitions became the foundation of Alianov Consolidated Corporation - or ACC.

Over the years, ACC and Alianov have grown ever richer, ever more powerful. To the ultranationalists, he represents the moral rot a jumped-up peasant brings to the Imperium. The Communists for there part will never forgive the atrocities he committed, and his active support for the Imperium.

All Veduco knows is this: a crumbling Imperium presents a good business opportunity.

Name of Territory: The Lord-Protectorship of Alianov; Alianov Consolidated Corporation, Inc.
Government: Capitalist Oligarchy
Capital World:Alianov
Population: Countless billions
Economy: Alianov is one of the richest systems in the Imperium, through both legimitate and illegitmate means. While economices of other sectors stagnate and decay, Alianov has become a hub of finance, technological growth, and banking. Most of its raw resources have been stripped away over millenia, but Veduco's governance has successfully shifted the system into a new, capitalist period.
Culture: Alianov's culture is one of crass commercial consumerism. The commons are fed with bread and circuses while the middle class engages in cutthroat competition to win approval of he upper class.
Social Structure: Extreme inequality, but high baseline living standard. No voting of any kind; the official "government" is on old Imperial standard but in reality ACC has taken over most aspects of daily life through either itself on one of its subsidiaries.
Territorial Size:
  • Alianov: Terrestrial world with heavy pollution. Vast amounts of urban development on the capital although some wildnerness still exists on the fringes.
  • Helheim: Arctic world. Huge water and raw mineral deposits. Mostly untapped, but being rapidly exploited.
  • Trugal: Death Jungle World; used as a military training planet. Native alien population exploited as indentured servants.
  • ACC owns countless thousands of factories, facilities, starships, and spacestations across the Imperium. They also have many contractual agreements with ruling authorities, but they rarely if ever outright own a planet outside the Alianov system.
Military and Security Forces:
  • ACC Security Services, LLC: Security arm of Alianov; small in size but exceptionally professional. Heavy use of private contractors.
  • ACC Prospecting Services, LLC: Naval and merchant-marine arm of ACC.
  • The "Old" Guard: unofficial remnants of Veduco's original mercenaries. Engage in various assassinations, extortion, bribery, and black ops.
  • ACC Financial Services, LLC: Engage both in legimitate business deals, and widespread fraud and deception.

Thank you! Additionally, would someone mind giving me a brief overview of events to date? I'm reading through the IC but it may take a while.

Intrigue and espionage going on between Midnight Hegemony and Rosewoods with a private contractor hired by the former to run the OP. Exploration going on with two characters. A piracy problem near Sao Eviticus. Two wars, one between the Krakatoan Dominion and an insectoid species; second, between the Hyperborean Front and the Galactic Imperium. A space borne religious cult is trying to get Imperial support in building a datamind to complete their religious prophecy/doctrine. Social at a club on Nova Terra among elites (Senators and representatives).

Hey there everyone, figured I'd say hi before I drop an app. Quite a neat concept you've got going. I should hopefully have it posted tonight but it depends on how long it takes me to orientate myself with the lore, IC and OOC going-ons and map out exactly what I want to do.

Alright, so I think I know the direction I'm going to go and have brushed up on the ongoing events.
Are there any quick rundowns of the religions, their doctrines, structures and beliefs? Nothing too crazy just so I roughly know what to expect if someone were to name drop any of the official faiths.

Oh and another question while I'm at it just to get the power level of the more high-tech parts of the imperium. Roughly how many Bog Standard Imperial Army soldiers would be required to take a single Praetorians in a fight? If they even have the firepower to do so outside of armoured/air support.

So the major religions in basic summaries:

Mahayana Cathericism:
Often shorthand given as "Catheric," is actually a Syncretic union of two older faiths. Mahayana Neo-Buddhism and Cathericism (future Christianity with strong Catholic iconography). Both where pretty widely followed by as early as the 6th Millennium and well into the Imperial Era. Eventually joining over ever increasing contact and admixture of each other into one unified Church. The religion is essentially a Monotheistic religion but instead of focusing on a God or a Trinity it is a combination of Buddhist principles and ethics combined with Christian spiritual esotericism. The Soul and Universe are bound together, inseparable, and cyclic like the universe itself (to their belief it is cyclic). It is structured pretty much in a Catholic style hierarchy with numerous religious orders and monk like monasteries for more sectarian facets. However, it is quite unified and even Ministers deviating from established Doctrine are tolerated by Bishop and Archbishop higher ups.

Zensunni:
Zensunni is as the name implies a mixture of Zen Buddhism and Sunni Islam. It is less unified than Mahayana Cathericism, Terranism, and even Bahai'Shido, but the difference is more focused on various sects interpretations of certain texts. Zensunnis typically are organized around various Imams, Dalai's. The senior clerics quite uniquely voting one among them as the Zensunni representative to the Orders Ecumene of the Imperial Senate.

Terranism:
A polytheistic religion that emerged in the Imperial Era and utilizing various reconstruction of older Solarian, Auroran, and Sagittaran religious or cultural mythos as their basis. Terranists believe that one can ascend to a higher plane or even godhood through their doctrines which are heavily based on positive ethics like honor, valor, honesty, productivity, respect, and spirituality. Terranism is unified under a Arch-Celestine who also doubles as the Lord Protector of the Faith and commander of the faiths Holy Orders. The current Arch-Celestine is the Princess Verina. Terranism does have a humano-centric facet, that while not officially endorsed is growing among its adherents.

Bahai'Shido:
A combination of Bahai'i and Bushido. Preaching the essential worth of spirituality and all religions as but interpretations of the true order of the universe. While also incorporating a strict self-discipline and martial code to all aspects of life. It is the smallest of the major religions and centralized on a single holy world and order of Priests.

As for regular Imperial Army troopers versus a Praetorian, that would depend on the number of troopers and how the fight happens. If its a pitched fight the Praetorian would probably carve through a company rather easily. So hard to say other than the number of troopers would have to be heavily lopsided in their favor to be considered "equal".

Alright thank you for that comprehensive reply, I should have my application ready tomorrow as I've completely lost track of time and sat up ridiculously late writing it up while the ideas I had are still fresh.
Currently, I'm looking at an SAS with a reformist outlook, though I don't think I'd call them loyalist as it may not involve the emperor (the current one anyway) I was considering just having a cooked up spiritual view though after your reply I think Terranism fits what I was going for pretty well so I think I'll have it be a minor denomination of that. Well, one which exists within my territory.

He bears the appearance of a man in his early 30s slightly older in appearance than those his age, wearied by decades of office. Keir is often pictured riding on his ‘horse’ at his country retreat. Though horses on Agelos IV are in fact artificial ‘unicorns’ genetically engineered and propagated millennia ago by the prodigal entrepreneur who established a private colony.
Talents/Skills: A natural leader and orator he has formed a cult of personality around himself and his grand vision to revive the Imperium and even grander visions to continue expansion beyond the confines of the milky-way.
Religious Beliefs: Revealed Terranism, similar to its namesake adherents pursue spiritual enlightenment and ascension to a higher being achieved through self-actualisation and honing of the pure and true human form into something new, not through science and distortions but a combination of will and struggle to reach their highest form mentally, physically and spiritually to the benefit of all.
Personality: Although he appears aged his manner is as energized as when he first appeared on the political scene of his home autonomous state. A man of grand vision and ambition, he projects the precise and commanding presence of an academy officer though remains quite personable among his inner circle.

Biography: Born to a middle-class family on the capital world of Agelos he would not remember the comforts and security of his life for within a few years of his birth when a financial crash left his parents destitute and forced them to become indentured servants to an off-world hydroponics company on one of the planetary system’s outer moons. Working for an unofficial subsidiary of an Imperium Megacorporation which had established the secretive operation in the SAS to circumvent wider imperium labour laws the used cheap forced labour to beat competitors. Living in cramped habitation cubes on the barren moon and subsisting off nutrient paste Keir received little formal education beyond the homeschooling of his parents when they returned from gruelling 12-hour shifts.
Later after an airlock seal failed his mother along with a dozen other workers were killed. Even the rampant corruption among government officials was not enough to prevent a formal investigation however the end result was to label it a no-fault industrial accident accompanied with a minor fine and the discharge of “affected” staff with a minimal payoff so they could claim the victim’s families were compensated.
Sent back to Agelos IV with barely enough funds to ward off starvation and a near-catatonic father still grieving over the loss of his wife Keir decided to enlist in the Planetary Defence Force.
Despite the gutting of most sectors the PDF still enjoyed benefits and the income from his enlistment allowed him to support his father in care while he was provided with room and board.
Gaining selection for an accelerated officer course at 18 he would reach the rank of Lieutenant, a promotion only earned after he was discharged after 14 years of service following the widespread cuts to the system’s military, it was more backhanded than an honour, a workaround used to reduce his “retirement” compensation and pension.
Another jobless soul among billions in the SAS and long disillusioned with the state he joined a radical party advocating sweeping reforms and upheaval of the corrupt government. Soon proving to be a popular speaker at meetings he began to cultivate a faction within the party advocating new ideas beyond just the scope of their state but the entire Imperium, within 10 years the party under his leadership became among the popular parties in the System Senate.
Despite the attempts of status quo parties to conduct underhand politicking against the rising radical parties the increasing tide of discontent at decades of corruption and cuts had decayed so many aspects of life for the disillusioned populace that it had become futile. Despite losing out in an election to a rival radical party they would soon become embroiled in scandal after it was leaked that they had accepted bribes from a megacorporation and had conspired with them to fraudulently take power. Leading a march of supporters on the senate Keir would force their government to resign and take power, years of neglect had left the government security forces many of whom held sympathies with his party too anaemic to protest.
The next years would follow with a series of purges as the entire establishment was ripped out from the roots, the nature of the corruption meant that nearly everyone with a whiff of power had at some point taken a sip from the gravy train in order to get their position and under this pretext were easily removed either stripped of office or relocated to fringe worlds as ‘colonists’. Ironically, their years of neglect and unchecked pirate and slaver turned what seemed like mercy into a near-death sentence.
Keir has quickly consolidating power and dissolving the senate and replacing it with a new legislative house. Sweeping anti-corruption campaigns spanning decades and a series of 5-year plans to jump-start the stagnant economy and facilitate wealth redistribution and untangling of the old order. His 70 years of rulership have seen near-constant growth and consolidation, entire cities built and then subsequently inhabited as pro-baseline policies and long lifespans have resulted in near exponential growth, new colonies established, and old ones resettled. Early joint-defence and trade pacts with minor outlying territories have seen the diplomatic expansion of the borders and incorporation of new worlds.

Name of Territory: The Orion Systems Commonwealth
Government: One Party Dictatorship. Despite having overall authority, a bicameral legislative system exists. The lower house consisting of; employer and worker representatives for industrial, agricultural and trade interests. The upper house formed from party officials and ministers, the ministers themselves drawn from a pool of elected representatives for their respective remit e.g. The Minister of Education is a candidate elected from teachers by teachers.
Capital World: Agelos IV
Population: 12 billion
Economy: Primary exports refined natural resources and surplus military equipment to smaller nearby territories and Imperial Sectors though it’s economy is still heavily self-contained with most of the habited planets within the commonwealth supporting each other in an internal trade bloc. Various protectionist policies are in place to prevent the wider galactic competition collapsing the relatively smaller business within the Commonwealth however trade deals can and have been established to meet shortages.
The state itself manages most key industries such as shipbuilding and infrastructure however regulated private industries are permitted to operate with a mutualistic relationship, the state protecting the smaller Orion companies from competition of the overwhelming Intra-galactic mega-corporations. An industrial revival has been kickstarted to expand the economy however the frontier systems still remain backwaters in many cases and depopulated after decades of neglect.
Vast public work projects drive employment and generate wealth as decrepit infrastructure is revitalised.

Culture: In the past decades since the declaration of the Orion Systems Commonwealth there has been a cultural revival within many of the core member worlds. Citizens are expected to view the collective good beyond their own immediate whimsy however the state provides amply for the people with social welfare, state-controlled unions to negotiate labour laws and other legal protections for citizens. Practices deemed exploitative or detrimental to the people and or the state are quickly brought to review and changed or prohibited.
In the younger generations born since Keir has taken power increasingly a new ideology which reveres the baseline human form has been cultivated. State subsidies are provided to parents of human off-shoots who agree to have embryo gene therapy to produce pure humans and high birth-rates are promoted.
These policies form just a small part of Keir’s great “Restitutio” or restoration to bring back the form of humanity which had the drive and will to leave their ancient cradle and build the Imperium.
Social Structure: Despite the massive industrial revival still ongoing since the founding of the Commonwealth the wealth of the state is still below that of most core Imperium worlds with poverty increasing the further one gets away from Agelos as the authority of the central government has yet to be reasserted and the threat of pirates still plagues the frontier worlds.
Wealth inequality is low with the gap between classes decreasing even as the economy begins to expand.
The new “Restitutio” has resulted in increasing tensions among some aspects of the population. Although not actively suppressed the more alien forms of humanity are painted as walking monuments of the decadence that has rotted the heart of the empire, however, they do not face any state restrictions beyond that of any other commonwealth citizen.

Territorial Size: The Commonwealth consists of roughly 203 planetary systems in total.
Within this, there are 64 with significant population centres ranging from heavily developed and populated worlds to minor colonies. Consisting of 21 Beta worlds and 43 Gamma/Cheti. The total population of these 64 worlds standing at around 32 billion, most of this share localised to a handful of major beta worlds and the rest ranging from 1 billion to fledgeling colonies of a few thousand people.
67 of the planets have some form of minor industrial/commercial/military presence with fluctuating populations barely escaping the thousands and almost entirely consisting of professionals and maybe their families. Usually Delta/Omega/Zeta and other lower classes which have never attracted serious colonisation efforts or terraforming but have a strategic utility of some kind.
The remaining 72 worlds are either totally uninhabited beyond a passing visitor or research expedition or untouched by human feet. These are mostly hostile classes or worlds either yet to be exploited or not worth it. A handful may have once been more populated but declined for a variety of reasons.
There are a multitude of space stations and hundreds if not thousands of moons both big and small within the Commonwealth however only a handful have permanent populations beyond the hundreds usually acting as supporting bodies to nearby planetary systems.

Military and Security Forces:
The Orion Systems Commonwealth Defence Force, more commonly simply called the ‘Commonwealth Defence Force’ or ‘Orion Defence Force’, is the sole military body operating within Commonwealth space, built from the ground up it bears little to no resemblance to the organisation that preceded it. Divorcing itself from the old Imperium based structure the CDF has come into its own as new officers have shaped doctrine and structure.
The CDF consists of two bodies:
The Systems Garrison which is responsible for protecting worlds and their satellites and consists of three branches; Ground, Maritime and Air. The Ground (DF) force is currently the largest body within the entire CDF though it consists of conscripts on drafts it retains a core of professional Senior NCOs and Officers. The Maritime (MDF) force defies the common belief that space travel has rendered ocean-going navies obsolete and continues to provide security on worlds with significant bodies of water and protect routes of vital strategic and tactical value.
The Air (ADF) force keep jurisdiction over atmospheric operations though commonly maintain small intra-system ships for local patrol between satellites and around their world.

The Celestial Navy: Where the Systems Garrison (SG) is the shield the Celestial Navy (CN) is the sword, responsible for patrolling the void between commonwealth systems it works closely with the SG to maintain secure commerce, borders and relieve besieged garrisons. Consisting entirely of professional volunteers in peacetime the Celestial Navy is considered the premier force despite its infancy and has become an increasingly attractive career in recent decades as the navy expands.
It has primary service known as The Stellar Fleet with two secondary services folded under its remit called The Starfighter Corps and the Void Marines.
The Void Fleet has only in the past decade or so really become worthy of being called a “Fleet” and still has not fully developed until recently it consisted of a smattering of outdated light ships with nothing larger than an Imperial-class Escort. The Void Fleet is the largest growing service as shipyards churn across dozens of sectors to expand the fleet.
Currently, the largest vessel and flagship is a repaired and refitted battlecruiser.
The Starfighter Corps is responsible for all transport and strike craft attached or accompanying CN vessels, purely expeditionary, as local air forces handle ground and station based craft in their systems.
Finally, the Void Marines act as the fighting force of the fleet, responsible for onboard security, boarding actions and Spearheading invasions. Marine complements for CDF vessel are often far more than what standard Imperium doctrine dictates for most classes of ship.
All branches of the CDF consist solely of volunteers except for the Ground Defence Force which is bolstered by national service from a world’s 18-year-olds who must serve at least 1 year in a variety of capacities. Minor worlds/colonies are usually exempt from this due to practicality and are instead shored up by forces from the larger Core Systems.
