Extremely. Generally it's 36 months of service one can apply and a Military Academy would pick up on her being underage anyways. So most lieutenants that get into officer school young are newly minted lieutenants in their early to mid 20s (its not unusual for NCOs to be of similar age if not older for newly minted Lieutenant grade officers).

Remnants of Exilvania wrote:Aight, here's a completed app. I am fully prepared for it to be denied in which case I'll start the anyways intended app for the Amban of Winderzlaf and play just them. Just thought this'd be kinda neat.

Name: Vladimir Igorowitsh Zakharin
Nickname: The Black Bear of Ore
Age: 53 years
Birth Date: 19.870 IC
Gender: Male
Planet of Origin: Borduavia
Race/Species: Human
Height: 6' 4,8"/1,95 m
Weight: 264,5 lb/120 kg
Physical Description or Image:
Social Class: Not a noble but the fourth son of a wealthy CEO in the Imperial Core. Out in the farthest reaches of the...uh...northern periphery, he has managed to accrue immense wealth after the foundation of his own company, now being considered among the most influential men up in the northern periphery and easily capable of buying himself into the social circles he wants to get into. His influence on Winderzlaf has made him the de-facto ruler of that planet, mostly due to the resident Amban not bothering to stop or even going along with Zakharin's schemes.
Titles: Founder and Chairman of the Periphery Resource Extraction and Development Industries (PREDI), 4th son of the Zakharin Family, Leading Member of the Galactic Commercial Combine in the Northern Fringe Periphery
Occupation: Govern a planet and run a corporate enterprise spanning multiple planetary systems in the northern fringe of the Periphery
Hobbies/Pastimes: Good eating, working out, Sauna and
Talents/Skills: Experienced miner and explorer, ruthless negotiator and businessman, talented gutter fighter and brawler.
Religious Beliefs: Paying light lip service to whatever religion helps him most in his dealings but generally unreligious.
Personality: Ruthless and pragmatic, generally comes across as a bit brash and brutish which he often uses to his advantage. Generally misses the good old days when he was still young and his enterprise hadn't grown so much yet due to the cameraderie and simplicity of that time. Also human purist to the point that he refuses augmentation or advanced medical aid for himself out of fear for tainting his flesh.
Biography: Born as the 4th child of Igor Ivanovitsh Zakharin and Antonia Arkanawka Zakharin, Vladimir's prospects in life were looking pretty good. His parents were running a corporate empire in the Imperial Core spanning a great many systems and worlds and their wealth could've ensured him an especcially long life of absolute luxury for however long he would have wanted it. Of course, as the fourth child, he had absolutely no chance of taking over as Chairman after his father would pass away. A fact that was often rubbed under his nose by his older siblings who'd often mock the, at the time, obese, soft and comparatively dumb child that was Vladimir. Despite his parents sending him to the best schools within reach and hiring private tutors and the like to help with his education.

Constant abuse by his siblings, classmates and virtually everyone around him led to Vladimir developing a certain dislike towards a set life in the Imperial Core in luxury...and under the endless supervision and mockery of those around him. The Imperial Core was tainted and full in his opinion, he would never be able to get rid of his reputation here nor would he be able to do something on his own. Long entrenched institutions and families held everything in a chokehold. Which was why the very young Vladimir begged his father for a small loan of a million Gold Backs and a ride to the Periphery. For small, young, 18 year old Vladimir had a dream. A dream of staking out his own destiny in the outer fringes of the Empire, where services and resources were scarce and required and where he wouldn't get squashed immediately by an established institution. Destiny could still be molded in the fringe! The discussion with his father was long and hard and some choice words were used by both sides but eventually his father relented and let Vladimir go.

Vladimir made it to Winderzlaf, an Omega/Cheti class world at the tender age of 19. It was, just as he had hoped, a fringe world at the very edge of the Periphery and under military authority by some Imperial Amban recently arrived from the Imperial Core as well. Things were...rough around these parts, rougher than the young rich kid was used to. He was shoved, he was mugged and even temporarily forced into the local Imperial Army Detachment where the local Amban, Líszt, took great care in getting this softie he was into proper condition for this harsh world.

After some acclimatization to the new conditions as well as getting rid of the unnecessary fat wobbling on his body, Vladimir was quick to start exploring the planet, often on his own but sometimes in expeditions organized by the local Amban to explore the planet and pass her time. Bits and pieces of his high grade education kept floating back to him and he knew that as a Cheti Class world, Winderzlaf was bound to be rich in minerals...and here on the outer end of the Empire, where everything could and was still growing, ores, materials and anything were of good value, necessary to trade in for advanced tools and materials from the core as well as to feed the growth of the settlements out there.

His great breakthrough came when he was 25 and he found his first, ore vein of rare metals. Over the next few years he was busy mining that vein, exploring its depth as well as selling the ore, building up money while living off the barest minimum, employing other poor sods to work the vein with him. By the time he had reached the age of 30, Vladimir had set up one of the more successful planety mining corporations, at the time still called the Winderzlaf Exploitation Corporation (WEC). Engaging in what could only be described as corporate warfare, with paid gangs and thugs as well as saboteurs, blackmail and bribery he aggressively sought to expand the WEC, striving for a mining monopoly on the resource rich world, something he achieved in his 33 year of life, the Amban finally intervening in the gang wars and siding with the clearly victorious Vladimir, granting him the monopoly for all mining operations on the planet.

From then onward Vladimir's rise started to snowball as the entirety of the planet soon turned dependent on him and his company while he aggressively continued his expansion across the fringe, the company buying up smaller, new corporations on other sparsely settled planets, modernizing and subsidizing the mining efforts there as well as creating several mining stations. Soon enough Vladimir found the Winderzlaf Exploitation Corporation a no longer fitting name, given its expansion far past Winderzlaf. It was thus renamed into the Periphery Resource Extraction and Development Industries (PREDI), though Winderzlaf remained the corporate headquarters and found itself in the more and more vice-like grip of the corporation which was by that point handling most civilian matters on the planet as well as technically policing duty due to having an own security force.

With his own position, his own destiny carved out in the outer Periphery, Vladimir looked back at the Imperial Core once more and realized just how rotten it all had been. Here, during his time on Winderzlaf, in the wild fringe, he had truly experienced life. Hardships and true pride and joy at achievements that were actually his own. He could see the weakness in the Imperial Core and wondered...would the central imperial authority eventually collapse? Would the possibility of multi-pronged wars and revolutions allow the fringe to gain greater autonomy? Would he be able to not only get rich of supplying the core with resources, but also create an own, strong, non-decadent realm on the fringe?

A great deal of very important questions, questions that Vladimir found necessitated an involvement in the politics of the Empire itself which was why he began becoming more active in the Galactic Commercial Combine, trying to create ties with influential governours and both in the fringe and in the core under the guise of seeking out new business opportunities.

If Great House or a leader of a Faction like a SAS, Colony, Et Cetera
Name of Territory: Periphery Resource Extraction and Development Industries (PREDI)
Government: Corporate Dictatorship
Capital World: Winderzlaf
Population: 1,393 billion employees across the fringe
Economy: Specializing in the extraction and refinement of ores and metals.
Culture: Well, kinda varied due to being dependent on the culture of local planets. But generally VERY mining focused. And rough, brash, generally not fond of many words or bs.
Social Structure: At the bottom stand the miners, often easily replaced people, sometimes even criminals recruited to do the hardest tasks and work the mines. Above them come the foremen, generally veteran miners with a great deal of experience and overseeing and guiding the mining efforts down in the shafts and pits. They are also responsible for keeping morale up down in the dark. Of equal rank to the foremen is the office staff, low ranking corporate stooges working tirelessly, pouring over statistics, budgets, orders and whatnot

Standing above these are the corporate security forces, the Exploitation Security Service. Generally well paid and fed and handpicked by the recruiters and absolutely loyal to Vladimir, either due to personal belief or due to the good living conditions he provides them. They are generally required to police the company and enforce its guidelines, suppress revolts by unruly miners, tackle hostile wildlife or criminals and threaten the company's enemies.

Yet above these stand the men generally regarded as explorers and executives. Explorers are extremely well paid and afforded great luxury if they are successful. No surprise given that the company thrives off the discovery and exploitation of ever new resource rich deposits and planets. It also puts great effort into styling these men and women as brave heroes of the frontier, trying to draw more of such people to their cause for the job of explorer is not safe and there is a high wear rate, with many explorers dying in the attempt to find new mineral deposits. The executives on the other hand are generally planetary administrative staff, living in relative luxury and holding high authority within the company.

At the top level is the Chairman, in this case Vladimir Igorowitsh Zakharin. By refusing to put his own company on any kind of stock market, forcing the company to live without outside investment, he has successfully managed to keep power over his company concentrated in his hands. His words are nearly law within the practically dictatorically run company.
Territorial Size:
Reminder that these are not so much settled planets as they are planets with notably company operations on them.
  • 7 Cheti Class Worlds
  • 3 Omega Class Worlds
  • 2 Zeta Class Worlds
  • 5 Mining Stations
Military and Security Forces: The Exploitation Security Service (ESS) has approximately 2 million members. These are generally divided into 3 branches.

One being the primary Exploitation General Security Service (EGSS), numbering nearly 1,9 million members and consisting primarily out of former Imperial Army soldiers, it can generally be considered as fairly well equipped though due to its status as corporate security it generally lacks in armaments going beyond heavy infantry armaments and light support vehicles and aircraft. Their training is up to par or even slightly above that of regular Imperial Army forces, leading to a certain arrogance of EGSS members around Imperial Forces whenever it comes to clashes between corporate enforced guidelines and the local law. These EGSS Troopers are generally clad in the shown garbs though there is a large variety of uniforms.

A higher rank of the the ESS is the Exploitation Security Service Winterzlaf Special Division (ESSWSD), numbering around 99.000 members which generally consist of Winterzlaf locals who grew up in an environment mostly dominated by the company and as such show a much greater loyalty to company and chairman than to any other authority. They are generally very well versed in mountain and arctic warfare and tend to know the local geography and population much better than others, making them a considerable foe on the ground. Their training and equipment also generally is on the level of the Imperial Guard, with the ESSWSD even featuring heavier armament and vehicles. Their primary mission is the protection of the vast company headquarters on Winterzlaf. The uniforms of ESSWSD Troopers is generally looking also as shown but does feature a measure of variation, though a much slimmer one than the EGSS Troopers'.

Lastly there's the Exploitation Special Security Service (ESSS), numbering around 1.000 members, generally recruited from the ranks of experienced mercenaries or Imperial Army veterans. They form an elite formation within the ESS and are, much unlike the EGSS and the ESSWSD, used in an almost exclusively offensive manner. Require a rival killed? An installation sabotaged? A pesky journalist eliminated? Look no further than these heartless killers. Their paygrade is way above the average and their equipment is generally considered to be the best the company can afford in its security budget. Their training and experience are considered great boons to them, putting them somewhat above Imperial Guard troops in terms of sheer quality. They do however lack the loyalty or quantity of formations such as the Imperial Guard. They generally also lack heavy weaponry or vehicles, being something more along the line of special forces than hard-striking frontline troops. The ESSS Trooper generally looks as shown, though there's a very high amount of customization allowed to these troops which they fully take advantage of.

Planet of Origin: Betreuen
Race/Species: Human
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 175 lbs
Physical Description or Image:
Social Class: Minor Nobility
Titles: Baroness/ of Betreuen, Governor of Betreuen
Occupation: Acting governor and military commander of the Betreuen Penal colony
Hobbies/Pastimes: Drinking Boba Milk Tea, painting, and cooking
Talents/Skills: An adept administrator with an affinity for quick tactical and strategic decisions. Her logistical vision and insight into civil and military maintenance ensure her place as Betreuen’s most ambitious warden.
Religious Beliefs: Agnostic on all religions, she is far more concerned with the material realm to think about eternal life after death. Irene takes great offense when religious orders interfere with her rulership as she considers them too contemptuous to give meaningful help.
Personality: A ruthless and pragmatic woman that despises hedonism and incompetence. Living in a penal colony surrounded by rapists, murderous, thieves, crackers, and political prisoners, Irene refuses to be part of a world, much less a universe, surrounded by degeneracy. Whatever it takes, she will drag them down kicking and screaming to wipe out their sin and make them model citizens of the Imperium.
Biography: Being born in a penal colony haphazardly run by apathetic governors, Irene had to grow up fast in order to be safe from the gangs forming around the slums. Despite coming from a minor noble household, her parents were exiled in disgrace here. As such, the family name meant nothing to the criminals and lowlifes sent to live on Betreuen. With no point of trying to form a living here, Tanya lied about her age and enlisted in the Imperial Army at 14 after her parents were murdered in a gang war. Being part of the Imperium’s oldest military institution surely meant a stable life, right?

For Irene, it was a way to channel her frustration and internal hatred towards the criminals on her home planet. Every night she would go to bed thinking of tearing them apart with her own hands to satisfy her vengeance and every morning she would wake up disappointed that she was only dreaming of her revenge. As to her instructors and commanding officers, Irene was a model soldier of the Imperium: loyal, unyielding, and highly competent. As Fate would have it, once she graduated as the ace Lieutenant of her class from the military academy and transferred back to Betreuen as part of the garrison.

Only there did her festering wrath finally reveal itself when she executed her first criminal for several accounts of murder at 25 years old in Betreuen. Such an act would get her court-martialed but the governor let the issue slide as he saw her as nothing more than an attack dog to keep the unruly populace from spilling over into open rebellion. Decades of neglect by the sycophantic planetary rulers combined with the death world nature left the colony in danger of failing to the elements. Unfortunately for the negligent governor, Irene would not be content being someone else’s tool in the shed.

Forming her own faction of like-minded individuals, she quickly set out to remove the governor out of office in a bloodless coup in his palace and in a violent crackdown against the colonists. Offering a choice of abdicating his position to her or facing the Emperor’s wrath after revealing to the Senate evidence of his criminal neglect on his rulership, the governor picked the former and fled the planet. A great victory although it was scandalous enough for her to get shafted from a promotion.

After 20 years, Betreuen had turned from a failed attempt at a penal system to a model colony in the Imperium. By ruling through an iron fist under a velvet glove, criminals and outcasts from every corner of the Imperium have been reformed into outstanding citizens and loyal soldiers. Slowly but surely, through steeled determination and countless deaths of the worst offenders, the death planet was being conquered.

With her grand experiment a massive success, Irene began looking towards Nova Terra. It was no secret that the Imperium was in decline with rising poverty and an influx of new criminals sent to her planet as future colonists. Fearful of a universe in chaos, Irene had to submit her proposal to the Imperial Senate to enact some badly needed reforms.

Unfortunately for her, her success in Betreuen brought suspicion to the high nobility in the Imperium. The “Upstart Lieutenant” from a backwater planet coming to the capital to lecture them how they should govern the universe...Even if it’s proven that the lowlifes and criminals of the Imperium have been reformed under Irene’s policies, it is without question that their loyalty lies in with the Sun Daughter.

If Great House or a leader of a Faction like a SAS, Colony, Et Cetera
Name of Territory: Betreuen Penal Colony
Government: One Party Authoritarian Stratocracy
Capital World: Betreuen
Population: 600 million
Economy: As a colony, or as some would say the "Imperium's Wastebasket", its main export has always been raw materials such as iron, chromium, nickel, silver, and gold thanks to a constant stream of "immigration" to the mines. But under Irene, the trade expanded to arms manufacturing and annual tithes of soldiers to the Imperial Army. Despite the lack of political rights, inhabitants have plenty of economic freedom such as private property and small business ownership. Only conglomerates and corporations on the planet are state-owned by Irene’s government.
Culture: Home of the Betreuen Blackguard Corps, society on the planet is heavily militarized with all criminals having to serve four years in the penal militia as their sentence. From there, they would endure horrendously brutal training, the hellscape that is the untamed environment, and are constantly fed Imperial propaganda.
Natural born residents have it easier as under Irene’s laws that they will not inherit the crimes of their parents. As such, there is a growing generation of young families eternally grateful towards Irene as they no longer have to endure the stigma of their ancestors. Given that they are far more receptive to her regime, these natural-born residents make up the backbone of her administration that turns criminals into loyal fanatics.

Of course, Irene had implemented a meritocratic system of promotion in order to ensure that her government isn’t corrupted by loyalist buffoons. Through state-sponsored healthcare and education, the people would no longer have to endure the squalor and destitute that plagued the colony before her rule. Because of her desire to foster knowledge and integrity in the people, religion is heavily restricted and monitored in order to prevent ignorance and superstition. With the current decline of the Imperium, Irene feels validated in her concerns. This is crucial in maintaining stability since 83% of the planetary populace has received firearm training with over half as part of the Penal Militia. Unfortunately, she did not expect that xenophobia would permeate the society she built so hard to create.
Social Structure: Irene Himmel > the Betreuen Blackguards > the natural-born residents > political exiles > white collar criminals > blue collar criminals > the absolute worst criminals.
Territorial Size: Death World (Mars-size)
Military and Security Forces:
The Planetary Penal Militia acts as Betreuen’s prison for the criminals sent there. Instead of rotting in the cell, the people serve their sentences in expeditions into the wilderness to claim more land for the growing metropolis. For Tanya, the purpose is twofold: culls the planet of its most violent and disruptive penal colonists while simultaneously purging the environment of hostiles. Operates as a reservist defense force in case of invasion. Notoriously unreliable if the new recruits aren’t spread between the more veteran militias.

The Betreuen Blackguardsare Irene Himmel’s greatest contribution to the Imperium. Recruited from the penal militiamen deemed reformed, the Emperor won’t find a soldier more recognizable than the men in black uniforms and outfitted in heavy armor and weaponry. Marked by the Black Sun (painted in white) on their shoulder pauldrons and helmet, the Blackguards operate as heavy infantry in the Imperial Army serving as their stormtroopers in every engagement. Their fatalism and devotion to duty are second-only to the Imperial Guard leading to a mutual rivalry between them. It is calculated that 80 million Blackguards are in active service.

The Walkyre are an all-female task force assigned as Irene's personal bodyguards as well as protecting important figures of her government at home and abroad. Drawn from the most loyal and capable female recruits from the Betreuen Blackguards, the Walkyrie are also tasked in anti-counterfeiting operations as Irene trusts no one else to enforce monetary integrity. There is actually one battalion of Walkyrie integrated in the 1st Betreuen Armored Blackguard Liebgarde Irene Himmel. Most often than not, Walkyre recruits are native-born instead of being exiled convicts.

Social Class: Non Nobility
Titles: Rear Admiral
Occupation: Imperial Admiral
Hobbies/Pastimes: Martial Arts and Art
Talents/Skills: Tactics, Strategy, Martial Arts
Religious Beliefs: Atheist
Personality: Dutiful, Impetuous, etc.

Biography: Unlike many in the upper echelons of the Imperium’s Admiralty, Leon was born neither rich nor in the Imperial Center. Leon was born in the outer colonies on the Industrial world of Krieg, but he longed to live on a richer and greener world. One night while his parents slept, Leon ran away from his home and made his way to the nearest ship dock with the hope of sneaking aboard a freighter and getting away from his homeworld. Leon managed to make his way to the ship dock and hide between two crates. At that point, Leon experienced "cold feet" and decided to return home.

However, Leon encountered several members of a local criminal gang, who dealt in drugs and human trafficking. They trapped him and attempted to abduct him. Fortunately for Leon, a passing dock constable managed to chase off the thugs and Leon took the opportunity to flee home. He never told his parents about the incident but never gave up his desire to leave Krieg. When a passing Imperial fleet cleared out much of the filth and other criminal groups on his world, this convinced Leon that he would Enlist in the Imperial Navy.

Shortly thereafter, Leon found himself at a Secondary Naval Academy. Leon threw himself into his studies, and before long proved himself a capable tactician. His greatest failing during his time at the Academy was his lack of networking. While he got along well enough with colleagues that held a similar background to himself, he found it difficult to relate to the more affluent and influential students. This would come back to bite him time and again in the future. Despite being in the upper rungs of his class, he was passed over for many of the more prestigious and desirable postings by his social betters. This infuriated Leon to no end, and he would carry a chip on his shoulder through the rest of his career.

For many years, Leon would toil in obscurity. Often lagging behind his peers when it came to promotions, largely because the brass disliked him. By the time many of his friends had earned their first captaincy, Leon was still an Executive Officer. This prompted Leon to work tirelessly to prove himself so as not to be left behind. It would, however, still be sometime before his talent was realized.

When finally Leon made the rank of Captain, he was spurned again by being placed in a particularly dangerous and undesirable corner of space. A place in which careers went to die. Despite this, and the incompetence of those under his command. Over the next several years Leon managed to shape up his crew and bring some semblance of order to the region. But, his time in the far reaches of the galaxy had an adverse effect on Leon. He became a hardened man, and it was reflected in many of his future actions.

Seeing the potential in posting Leon to lawless regions to shape them into productive corners of the Galaxy, the higher ups saw fit to promote him to Commodore. For the next decade, Leon spent his time in the outer reaches of civilization, fighting pirates and suppressing rebellions. The exact opposite of what he’d dreamed for all those years ago. Rather than complain, Leon took his anger out on the outer colonies. And while his methods were certainly questionable, his effectiveness was not.

By the time he was honored with a promotion to Rear Admiral, the name Tchaikovsky was feared all throughout the colonies. The mere threat of bringing Leon into the region was enough to scatter criminal rackets, send pirates cowering, and make seditionists think twice about rebelling. In recent years Tchaikovsky has been given the ability to augment his body to live beyond the natural human lifespan. Although he appears in his mid sixties, Leon is in fact over 100 years old. With the Empire seeing more and more unrest, Leon has been tirelessly running from Sector to Sector putting down rebellions. Yet, with each uprising mercilessly put down, two more rise up elsewhere.

Social Class: As a heir to a great House Theodor was born to extreme wealth and luxury
Titles: Vice Admiral of the Imperial navy, Heir to House Melodon
Occupation: Currently Theodor serves as an Vice admiral in the Imperial Navy, aboard HMS Warspite
Hobbies/Pastimes: Thedor enjoys studying ancient classics of literature and poetry, especially enjoying the latter. In their footsteps he himself is an amateur writer. Along with literary pursuits, Theodor enjoys grav gliding and the hunting of exotic birds back in Calaath.
Talents/Skills: The heir of house Melodon is known as a capable naval commander, that though not as good as the “old guard” like Joachim Varyon, can handle himself in battle. Most notable strategical tendency of Theo is rapid movement leading up to a multipronged attack. Though not necessarily the most formidable looking figure, his well spoken and professional conduct ensures respect from those around him.
Religious Beliefs: Atheist
Personality: To those around him Theodor is known as an energetic figure who rarely fails to spread this same energy to his subordinates. Though energetic he still takes the time to engage in philosophical conversations when possible, often showing off the benefits of his costly education. What’s more he is a firm believer in fate for had his older brother not abdicated his claim to the House Melodon throne, he would never have had the chances in life he now enjoys.

Biography:
Theodor Uria Melodon was born on Calaath, under the banner of the golden M and four stars. As the second son of the current patriarch of House Melodon, Marquis Bernard Melodon, he enjoyed the best education money could buy. Yet in return for all the wealth and privilege his father expected brilliant results in all aspects of life. Helping him meet those high expectations was his older brother, Maximilian. For every challenge there were some guiding words by his brother, who Theo grew to venerate. In the beginning Theo stayed at the various estates of his father, learning of the world and how it worked at a relatively lax pace. Servants were never far away, and his tutors were the best money could buy. If there was something wrong, it was the distance of his father, who seemed to pay all his attention to Maximilian, his eldest son. Maximilian however reassured Theo that it was a blessing, since fathers attention brought with it high standards and expectations to be met. And so his early childhood went in peace and luxury, until the day his brother and father clashed. Theodor never learned exactly what the argument was about, but apparently something to do with their house and loyalty.

All that was clear that before dawn broke on that day, his brother had left to join the guard, renouncing his name in the process. From that day he was the heir to the throne. And thus he had their fathers attention. Immediately he was moved from the estates into the court, often called “merchant court of Calaath”, where a more rigorous training regimen begun. Lessons on economics, politics, and conduct followed one another with rapid pace, and the relaxed life changed into one were privilege had to be earned.

Growing up in the merchant court of Calaath was an experience that less bright young men would not have survived. For all the riches and privilege there was always a cost. But such is the way of House Melodon. For no matter who one was, whether the child of an estranged relative or the heir to the patriarch, one had to learn how to tread the treacherous waters power brought with it.
From his 10th birthday to his 16th Theodor was at the court besides his father. Then he was given a choice: Heir needs to know naval warfare and thus there were two options. Either join the Houses’ own fleet, the Gilded Armada, or the Imperial navy. To his family’s dismay Theodor chose the latter option. He had grown tired of all the petty struggles and powerplays of the court. Instead he wanted to fight for something that truly mattered, for the greater good of the whole galaxy.

Idealistic or not, Theo achieved great success during his academy years. While there were always a dozen things to learn by heart, it all seemed easier now without the dazzling of the court around him. Upon graduation at age 20 he was on the upper half of his class, though not quite a valedictorian. Taking command of a ship in the Imperial 4th fleet, he got his baptism by fire mere months after graduation. The skirmishes around Ederro Nebula were a deadly game of cat and mouse against corsairs.

Ever since he has continued to serve the navy with distinction. Though now with his father embedded on a life supporting bed, a choice is coming nearer. Should one’s loyalty be towards his beloved family and his father, or towards the greater good, even to the detriment of family?

Name of Territory: Principality of House Melodon
Government: Nepotistic Star Feudalism
Capital World: Calaath
Population: 156 Billion
Economy: Economy of the House lives and dies with trade. Their domain is a good example of how dispersed domain of the great housed may be. Instead of existing as single entity with clearly defined borders, Melodon worlds are located all around the Scutum Crux arm and the core of the galaxy, usually around important nodes of galactic trade.
Culture: House Melodon culture is one of wealth. Wealth is to be shown as a symbol of one’s status, and held on to. However it is not enough to be wealthy, one must possess the traits of a good trader as well: Good education to understand the flow of trade and the value of trade goods, polite manners and refined speech to make a good impression and a calm mind to salvage even the sourest of situations. Combined into this noble culture is mixed various indigenous traditions in the lower classes of each world.

Social Structure: Society of the House Melodon and the worlds they rule, is one of nepotistic star feudalism. At the top are the members of House Melodon and it's numerous sub-branches. It is common for these nobles to participate in gene crafting in an attempt to make their heirs stronger, longer lived and more intelligent. Yet these processes usually wield only partial successes or no success at all. Others yet carry terrible curses due to these experiments, doomed to suffer from mutations and even gradual loss of humanity.

Below the nobles is the sizeable middle class that participates in the trading operations the House is so known for. In addition most crew for the warships come from the middle class. Below them are the poor masses, forced to do the menial tasks in farms, factories and mines or to join the Melodon Janissaries.

Territorial Size: The domain of House Melodon consists of some 199 systems, most of which host some form of permanent human population. In last imperial consencus House Melodon reported 51 habited worlds and 132 noteworthy stations. These can be further broken down into 17 Continental worlds, 4 Desert, 5 Arid 7 arctic, 6 barren, 4 dead 7 oceanic, 2 death and 1 terraformed. Majority of the worlds are split all around the Scutum Crux arm and Norma arms of the galaxy. A notable cluster of Melodon core worlds exist near the connection point between the two arms rest of the worlds are split on.
Most notable of these are listed below:
Calaath, Beta Class: The continental world houses the ancestral Melodon seat of power. Lacking significant deposits of minerals or other trade goods, it was initially looked over by many. Yet the world slowly proved itself as an advantageously located trade hub. It was no wonder then that eventually power and funds started gathering on the rather untouched world. The first ones to secure their grip on the world were the nomadic genesmiths from Melodon, a world now lost to time. During the second imperial Reneissance these genesmiths organized into the Dominai Majora known today.
Folon, Epsilon Class: The orange sands of Folon are a permanent reminder of the world that was. Now it is covered by deep world tree forests, host to all kinds of exotic fauna. The world has only one major settlement, The Spire near the south pole of the planet. The city itself is exactly what one could imagine. A gigantic spire reaching far up to the sky. Above the spire floats equally massive space docks, able to hold dozens of freighters simultaneously.

Military and Security Forces:

Navy
The Gilded Armada is an umbrella term used for all Melodon flotilla, though officially it refers only to military vessels. As House Melodon’s influence and wealth rely on trading operations, having an effective navy is of utmost importace. For this reason their navy can be seen as one of the largest employed by any great house. However majority of their ships are old albeit well kept voidcraft from centuries and millenia past. Spearheading these venerable vessels are a core of modern battleships built during the reign of Marquis Bernard Melodon.
Alongside the military fleet exist the Melodon Trade Fleet, true lifeblood of the House. Innumerable in size, ships with Melodon insignia are a common sight in any major trade hub within the Imperium. Though economically significant, it should be noted that in battle vessels of the Trade Fleet are of little worth.

Ground Forces
For those poor souls living in the underbelly of the Melodon society, life is a constant struggle to meet quotas and make ends meet. For them there is only a single way out of the slums. Joining the Melodon Janissaries. While a janissary's life is a tough and often short one, it also allows one's immediate family to rise from poverty into a relative middle class. This makes sure that there never is a lack of hopeful recruits to fill the Melodon ground armies. Of course a family without an active janissary is sent back into the slum they came from, resulting in families cycling through all able bodied members before eventually being forced back into poverty.

In battle the janissaries rely on numerical superiority to carry the day, though the fighting spirit and tenacity of these units is not to be underestimated. Alongside janissaries House Melodon employs gilded marines, the infantry branch of their beloved navy. In contrast to the Melodon Janissaries, the Gilded are an elite force wearing heavy armour, that is recruited from the relative middle class.
Whlist numerically large on paper, most of House Melodon’s military is tied to garrisoning their domain. As such they can only mobilise some 12 million soldiers for offensive operations, though this number may temporarily be bumped up to as high as 40 million, at the cost of both effectiveness and stability.

Name: General Bratislav Hermaszewski
Nickname: The General of the North | Brother Hermaszewski
Age: 107
Birth Date: February 8th, 25,602 CE
Gender: Male
Planet of Origin: Hyperborea Alfa
Race/Species: Augmented Human (Hyperborean)
Height: 6'8ft.
Weight: 195lbs
Physical Description or Image:
Social Class: Low Born
Titles: Imperial Army General, Grand Volkhv of Hyperborea
Occupation: As a General of the Imperial Armies stationed in the Hyperborean Belt, Hermaszewski had been formally tasked with leading both the local Garrison forces of the sub-sector, and mustering additional Army Groups to the Imperium for use in theatres off-system throughout the interstellar empire. However now as a De Facto head of a new age religious movement to honor the Old Gods of Staryy Terra, Hermaszewski had since personally sought to lead and transform his people of Hyperborea back to their core Slavic roots, seeking to divorce them entirely from the insidious 'debauchery' performed by the Nova Terrans who had ruled upon them for countless millennia. Seeing nothing sort of absolute separatism from the Imperium in order to preserve the revived culture and religion of his people.
Hobbies/Pastimes: He's an astute studier of history and theology, and is often found performing research on both recently rediscovered history of Paganism and even military tactics in order to recover bits and pieces of history once thought lost forever to his people. His old archaeologist career still carrying on into his current life and role in doing so.
Talents/Skills: As a General, he is a very skilled leader and ground commander, with a charismatic and diligent dogma to boot. Able to rally his men to both finish off and recover from a fight, in a ground war he is a force to be reckoned with, and absolutely relentless in his conduct of fighting wars.
Religious Beliefs: Revived Staryy Terran Slavic Paganism (Awakened Northerner)
Personality: He is a determined man of both duty and faith, having once been jaded after years of service under the Imperium, he now sees himself as a more enlightened and 'alive' man after declaring to have found his roots back to Paganism of old introduced to his life after claiming to have rediscovered an extensive series of lost data files from archives thought shut down eons ago. Whether these claims of his are truly founded or not, he seeks nothing more than to be a humbled man of his new faith that he wants to share amongst those he considers to be his people, and will do anything necessary to allow them to express their faith and freedoms without any interruption of outside forces wishing to retain control of them or influence them any further.
Biography: As a young boy, Bratislav had dreamed of seeking a higher calling and purpose in his life and for his family, having been raised in the slums and bullied daily by the gangs who inhabit it, little Bratislav was given nothing but hard living for much of his growing years on Nova-Perma. But by the time he was of age and after having been kicked out from his impoverish hut of a home, Bratislav saw no other choice but to enlist in the Imperial Army, at first as a means to get away from his horrid conditions back at home, but later seeing it as a means to discover more that the galaxy had to offer to his still fresh mind. While on tour, he had discovered documents and files in a series of ruins while on patrol, talking of Slavic Culture and Paganism of Old. Being astonished by these findings, he hid them away and eventually brought them to the University of Orenburgia back on his home planet while on leave to share his findings with the history and archaeologist professors there.

Eventually after serving his first tour of duty in the Imperial Army, Bratislav then spent an amount of time going archeological hunting to gather and learn even more lost history, eventually leading up to a sheer reverence of it, almost religious in nature as he learned to be inspired by the concept of faith in a world that seemingly had none. Eventually he would regain a focus on military career once again, rising through the ranks after several decades of service, until eventually becoming a General regulated to safeguarding and recruiting from his own home sector. But his thoughts of a higher, more holier purposes never left him, as for years he still influenced many of his men and the populace under him to his new wave of Neo-Pagan thinking, which immediately clashed with the thinking of Imperial Authorities and Officials in the sector once he had been discovered.

Leaving him with little to no choice on the matter, he successfully led a coup on Nova-Perma and its surrounding worlds with his armies of loyalists, and declared it to be part of Hyperborea, beginning a new dawn and awakening of the 'North,' in the Imperial Sector.

Name of Territory: Hyperborean Cosmic Front
Government: De Facto, Theocratic Despotic Separatist Movement. De Jure, Star Feudalism
Capital World: Hyperborea Alfa
Population: 23 Billion
Economy: Originally based mostly around exports, now everything has to be locally manufactured and created in a hastily adjusted autarky system since the Coup.
Culture: Rampant revival of Slavic Neo-Paganisn, with Neo-Primitivist elements having been revived as well since its dormancy since the ancient collapse of Staryy Terra. The people here have an almost fervor relevance towards old Slavic cultures and traditions of old from ancient Earth, emulating them to the best of their ability and knowledge, despite much of the history of the traditions and old culture being lost to time forever.
Social Structure: The religious heads known as the Volkhv hold the highest standing in this society, being the recognized head theocratic leaders and chiefs of it. Follow up by military leaders and lesser clergymen who follow suit and enforce the will and faith of the Hyperborean society on the rest of the populace, who are the merchants and commoners who are expected to the follow the will of their leaders, less they face consequences and disapproval.
Territorial Size: At the center of Hyperborea, lies Hyperborea Alfa itself, a single Gaia world where the majority of the population lives, also serving as the central capital. Followup by some dozen or so barren (for human life) worlds with sparse populations and a rather small selection of stations dotted around in the Hyperborean sub-sector (In the thousands in terms of population). Followup by two other sister continental worlds which also inhabit the sub-sector (Beta and Gamma), where the rest of the population resides. However given General Hermaszewski's cult-like influence, it is likely more neighboring worlds and systems may fall under his domain in the coming future.
Military and Security Forces:
The Hyperborean Cosmic Front practices 2-year draft conscriptions expected to be performed by the majority of its people for at least one point or another in their lives. Leading to a reliance on raising reservist divisions in times of active war, however the standing army it possesses is nothing to snuff at, being one of the more primer fighting forces in its corner of the galaxy. With General Hermaszewski having many of his men who he led initially as a Imperial Army General defected over to him during the outbreak of his separatist movement, along with several naval ships with their captains and rear admirals also defecting over as well.

The Awakened Legions: 1.5 Million Personnel. Split into 3 Armies of 500K Each

Planetary Defense Forces: 10 Million Active Personnel, ~450 Million Reservists. Spread Across all 15 worlds and their various stations.

Sub-Sector Navy: Underdeveloped compared to more contemporary navies, but still possessing some key capital ships: 5 Larger Frigates and Cruisers, 11 Destroyers, 16 System Defense Ships and armed Barges.

I see mention of defection. Are they in open rebellion/secession?

Pretty much, but they're still at that very fragile point where they're still somewhat open to diplomatic negotiations.

Do you mean "horror" more like the Dimensional Horrors in Stellaris, or any extraplanetary, gigantic organism that could be considered "horror" in general?

Oh, and this is going to be interesting watching the politics unfolds. We have the revolutionarists, reactionaries, socialists, guerillas, fascists, religious fanatics, Imperial governors, separatists, and probably space monsters as well.

We got the whole socio-economic-political aspect of the RP to play with. Adding in space monsters and gods would derail that too much.

Besides, we're not trying to recreate 40k here.

Wanna beat up the Hyperboreans together? This may be Irene's biggest rival yet.

You have a greater concern than a religious cult... in form of the Imperial Senate, the Deynai, and perhaps the Empire itself. You'd need to take them down sufficiently enough, and for that you need support, how so reluctant Irene might be. Then all revolutionary/reformist factions can cut each other's throats.

I have a feeling that lovecraftian space horror would be more concentrated at the southern Periphery.

Magellanic Clouds and the Shadow and all that being there afterall.
