Finbarr Shanahan

The scientist giggled in glee as the order to fire came in from Violann. It would seem that he had forgotten that the Major was a Kiel, a species that he had absolute distate for stealing jobs back on Earth. Instead, he took aim with his blaster pistol, levelling the crosshair of the weapon towards the nearest reptilian primitive.

For all its worth, space elves were not the only things he disliked. He also did not like lizards. Reptiles. Stuff with scales with forked tongues. Snakes, geckoes, you name it. And these reptilian humanoids were no different. He haphazardly unloaded a few bolts into the torso of one the reptilians, lighting up the darkened night with streaks of energy. Only Lady Luck can tell if any of those actually hit.

Rommel Salazar

Rommel only shrugged at Em as she asked if he was going to watch over Polaski while waiting for the medic to come over. "I'm the Flight Lieutenant, it's kind of my job to look after you guys." He was keeping the pilot down at the moment, attempting to inspect the damage to his face in the dark. Unfortunately, the only thing he could see was that there was an arrow stuck in there. There was not a lot of bleeding, as the arrowhead was the thing that was keeping it that way; pulling it out would cause even more damage. Well, damage in whatever form it exists inside a simulation, anyway.

Immensely shivering from the having plunged into the frigid water and the ambient air temperature, she discharged her blaster into the swamp across the embankment.

"Get your sorry asses up on this embankment and open fire!"

"And there goes the element of surprise.", Rommel shook his head as he shouldered his own rifle, though not before making sure that Polaski was in a position that was relatively comfortable so that the medic could treat him properly. He then opened fire, aiming at the head of one of the reptilians. These things had caused one of his pilots pain, and there will be retribution for that.

Hyon Kyong-Su
It took some time but, Hyon headed his way towards the wounded Polaski. Making sure that he stayed in the cover of the embankment. So perhaps he was needed after all, though it did not comfort him. Even if this is a simulation and no one was liable to have permeant injuries or die. He did have a duty to help out those who are wounded. First, dealing with Polaski before trying to get to the others lying in pain on the road.

"Hey, I'm a doctor, and let me see what I can do." Hyon said calmly to Polaski, "just try to remain still." So an arrow had stuck Polaski in the cheek and did not thankfully go in enough to kill him. Without any medical supplies getting the arrow out will not be easy. He needs to somehow enlarge the wound on the cheek for him to pull the arrow out. How was he supposed to do this? It is going to be very painful for Polaski if he simply tries to hank the arrow out. The arrowhead might break off and stay inside of Polaski or worse. "Damm," Hyon said in Korean and in frustration. Hyon did not know what to do, and there were others on the road with arrow wounds that needed him. "Polaski, I need you to relax okay, I am going to find a way to get this arrow out of you, okay."

Ru Kyong-Su

Ru had reluctantly followed Violann's orders and got on the embankment. He is really going to follow orders from a slaver? It did not feel right to him. Why couldn't they just let a human be in charge rather a Kiel. Still, they were under attack with several wounded. They needed to do something before things get worse. So Ru shouldered his rifle and opened fire at what looked like targets. He was not sure if he was hitting anything but if they kept up the fire. Then it would dissuade these aliens from attack and maybe get some of them. Well, if these aliens are not suicidal, that is.

James Allan

Fascinating. Fascinating. He knew stories of the Ragon, the gigantic reptillians who'd menaced the galaxy the Milky Way found itself sister to, but these were smaller, more humanoid than anything. He wondered for a moment how advanced they were, if they were analogous to the human stone age, if this was a hunting party or a scouting group against a rival society, but then he realized. They'd all been created by a computer, and he doubted precious processing power had been wasted on bloodlines and societies.

If it wasn't a simulation he'd make a request that one be taken alive, but alas their opponents were lines of codes, and so James took cover rather than a specimen. He was no marksman, not by a long shot, and besides, he'd ballasted his pistol. He had no intention of using it, not when there were perfectly good marines to do the job, and much more efficiently than James could. For the first time since entering the God forsaken swamp, he was glad for his smaller form; it was easy taking cover when you were two feet tall.

The Main Party

The sudden volley of fire downed a couple of the primitive reptilians and sent the others scurrying back into the undergrowth. It wasn't many, but at least they weren't shooting arrows in the direction of the crew on the embankment. The ambush Violann had laid had not caused as much destruction as she had probably been hoping for, the flanking group hadn't been in position, and it probably wouldn't be long before the creatures came back, this time expecting the blaster fire that the crew had subjected them to. For now though, the crew had a few brief moments without anyone attacking them...

Meanwhile, some distance ahead: the Flanking Group

Sofia's shot caused Aula to mutter a curse under her breath: something to do with the shooter's grandfather and a billy goat, "Come on," she motioned to the others in the flanking group, "I don't know what's happening back there, but we have to move, fast!"

She looped the strap of her rifle over her shoulder, then launched herself at the embankment. She scrambled up it nimbly... only to come face to face with a trio of reptilians doing the exact same thing from the other direction. For a heartbeat, Aula and the group of reptiles all froze in surprise. Then she went for her gun and the reptiles rushed at her. Even as they did, at least two more were scrambling up the bank behind them.

The flanking group had run into an enemy force trying to cut off the team's escape route.

Gabriel Schmeid, Engineering Ensign
"Gosh dang!" He whispered at himself as the Marines around him took position on the embankment and shot at whatever the heck attacked them. Gabriel had decided long ago that he didn't like this simulation and wanted more than ever to find a way out. From starting out in a pile swamp muck to losing his balance and being knocked out cold to this chaos, he just wanted out. He came onto the ship as an engineer, not a marine. He hadn't even had time to take a look in the engine room or ask what the heck needed to be done still. While he did grow up in smalltown USA, where shooting guns was a favorite pastime, he never imagined having to shoot at any sentient creature or actually be put in a place where his own life was in danger. Then he supposed signing up to go on a giant spacecraft where nearly anything could happen was a threat enough. His head throbbed and he felt the bump in his head that he got when he fell and got knocked out. Thankfully it was only for a minute or two. He woke up in time to see shots rise up in the air over the tree line, and that's what led him to find the main group. Gabriel considered getting his own pistol out and contributing to the volley of fire but reconsidered, figuring that the marines and scores of others had already shot what was to be shot. Instead, he sat with his back to the embankment, shivering in his mud-caked cloaths.
The shooting stopped and he peeked his head above the embankment, searching the darkness for anything either of interest or danger. He could see nothing at first and decided to wait for orders from that crazy lady who he rightly assumed was the highest rank here.

Ensign Imogen Cyrano

Please just make this nausea go away….

Imogen silently screams in her mind to no one apparently. Imogen again attempts a dry heave as her artificial body to interprets her nausa as response as being food poisoned or something else. This had been going on for hours, ever since she had been woken up in this blasted swamp.

Stuck in a damn swamp with a couple pissy pointy ears...Well one apparently had them cut off but who cares….I’m walking wounded and useless…barely can see strait…I am surprised one of them hasn't put me out of my misery for the good of society yet.

All Imogen could do was put one foot in front of the other and do dry heaves as they sloshed through the muck. When the order for duck and cover had been given, she had just crawled behind this convent tree…it provided cover but also a nice dry spot to just roll over and die…

[Slap…Slap…Slap]

As she hears the sound of three arrows slap into the tree she is hunched behind, Imogen curses to herself as she tries to dry heave again…

Why the flying f*** did I rejoin these idiots… cause I couldn’t stop staring at your empty chair and crying…God I miss you Matt…

A sob joins the heaves as she gives into grief for a moment. Part of her just wants to curl up and let the sim killer her here. Really. why was she putting herself through this? Part of her can hear the sounds of blaster fire. Her eyes wavering with pain and nausea stare out into the darkness; the scattered back light of the blasts illuminating the swamp out away from the road and the fight. The white of exposed wood reflecting the scattered light of the energy blasts back to her...with increasing clarity.

She realizes her vision is no longer clouded and the nausea seems to have subsided.

Oh…someone finally noticed they screwed up something eh? Yeah bet that gets reported in our evaluations, once again demonstrating that naval medical is best at screwing up and making sure it can't be proven.

Imogen takes a deep breath, allowing the stench, rot, decay and stagnate water assault her nostrils and throat; and wishes she hadn’t taken that deep breath.

Bad idea 1 million and one…

Imogen turns and rises up into a crouch, looking across the embankment and the whole scene. It is a mess as far as she can make out.

a couple of people apparently down by arrows out on the road and…Why in the hell is there tarmac when people are using just arrows?…these two things do not match…

She shakes her head and stashes that though into a back corner of her mind for later. She can make out a shape going out to one of the wounded on the tarmac. It is obvious the person is trying to help the wounded. But she can see where this is going to lead.

Poor buggar’s a damn target out there…

Imogen looks around in the darkness and sees an odd shape. It looks like a truncated stump of a tree…

Maybe…just maybe…

Imogen moves along the small rise of land between her and discovers what she thought was there illuminated by the scattered backlight of the blaster fire…a tree broken in half…its trunk snapped into a mass of large bare splinters by some unknown force…likely the wind.

If I cut off that section there…yeah that might work…

She notices one of the upstanding sections of trunk forms a nice wide slab of wood. She pulls on it. Where the section is still attached to the trunk she uses her blaster to cut if off. Another blast gives her a handhold though she needs to rip off part of her uniform to wrap her hand and and prevent it getting splinters.

A few moments later she is hauling her improvised, splintery, ungainly shield out onto the road. Though a decently tall and physically fit woman, she still has to cary it by leaning it against her shoulder while using her other hand to steady it in place. This way she can slosh through the water and up the embankment as fast as possible.

Don’t know when the scuzi’s are going to pop out and start shooting again…hope they don’t have anything with more serious oomph than some arrows…

Imogen continues to move towards the man playing medic trying to reach him before any more arrows start coming in.

If she reaches him before the next attack, she will dryly state “Someone ordered you a shield maiden?…” As Imogen places her shield down to cover the medic and his current patient.

“…sorry but this is the closest supply could find…tell me where you need to go and hopefully we can get folks stabilized and pulled back before those…whatever people...do some more target practice with us…” She states dryly looking down at the latest patient.

Eulli Yitakyeop
A Jolly Crawl

Eulli had listened eagerly to Aula’s instructions, and was keen to follow them to the letter, though she had a distinctly relaxed attitude towards it all. It was just a simulation, after all, and it wasn’t as if she could die properly around here, nor was it as if she was likely to be in situations like this terribly often as an engineer, so it was, to her, far more like a high-intensity escape room than a genuine training exercise. She still wanted to “win,” as it were, which meant listening carefully to those who knew what they were doing, as she would hope they’d do were the task at hand something more in her line of expertise. Eulli kept her hand on the pistol. Though she was a terrible shot in the best of times, hitting something in the side was probably better than not having a chance to hit it at all.

At Aula’s behest, Eulli nimbly sprung up the bank after her. Though she wasn’t exactly the peak of fitness, she could still run, skip, and jump faster than any human thanks to the natural cervine agility of her Gorialax ætt. When she got to the top, she saw the same sight as Aula. Unlike Aula, however, she sprung to the side as the reptilians approached and only then thought to fumble with her pistol. She pointed it in the direction of one and pulled the trigger, though she could only really make out the general shape of them in the moonlight.

"Hold fire," Violann called as the last of reptilians disappeared into the cover of the undergrowth. She took a moment to crawl up onto the road to better her view before she disappointingly counted the dead. The ambush could have been far more decisive had Calhoun possessed an ounce of trigger discipline, but Violann knew there was little she could do about that now.

After returning to the relative safety of the embankment, Violann slowly stood up and inspected the wounded members of the crew. That would slow them down, certainly, and the lack of success in laying the ambush meant they'd need to walk along the embankment rather than the pavement.

"Gather up the wounded, we need-"

Violann found herself interrupted by the sound of a blaster shot screeching out further down the road. There was faint relief that it meant that they weren't being flanked in return, but the shot also meant that a moment's respite was now impossible..

"Gods damn it," she spoke lowly to herself. She couldn't afford to send two more marines down the road or it would risk compromising the firepower of the group, but she couldn't exactly bring herself to trust any of the non-combat personal to do the job either.

"Salazar," she called out for the Flight Lieutenant, "You're going to gather the wounded and get everyone moving again as soon as possible. Try to stay low along the embankment to minimize exposure. I'm going ahead to support the flanking team."

Rommel Salazar

"Salazar," she called out for the Flight Lieutenant, "You're going to gather the wounded and get everyone moving again as soon as possible. Try to stay low along the embankment to minimize exposure. I'm going ahead to support the flanking team."

Rommel nodded as the Major have him an order. It seemed everything was going sideways; the flanking group had opened fire, meaning that they had encountered the enemy ahead of schedule, and there were quite a few wounded people on the road. But now, he had his orders, and he will carry them out. And unlike a lot of other people in this simulation, he would do so without a grumbling under his breath or an underhanded thought about what full blooded humans called 'knife ears'. He was , after all, the best of two worlds

"Noted, Major Violann." Rommel then motioned to Em to follow him on the act to get the wounded off the road. "We got a job to do, friends. Schmeid, McKay, and..." Rommel clicked his fingers, trying to remember the name of the Jordanian. "Hamza, and whoever else isn't a marine, not dead or shot, get the wounded off the road. Keep your heads low or I'll keep them low for you. Got it? Alright."

He looked down as the Korean doctor from Titan treated Polaski's ruined face. Rommel just sighed; why were people disobeying orders left and right in this simulation? Was it because their commanding officer was an Elfdar?

“…sorry but this is the closest supply could find…tell me where you need to go and hopefully we can get folks stabilized and pulled back before those…whatever people...do some more target practice with us…” She states dryly looking down at the latest patient.

"Ah, Ensign Cyrano." Salazar said as he went over to the woman, who had procured an improvised shield out of the trees. "Major has ordered us to gather the wounded and get the formation along the embankment. Seeing as you have gotten a shield... hmm. You should cover our rear as we move." He would then lean closer to whisper to her ear. "And it's good to have another Martian in these parts too."

Gabriel Schmeid, Engineering Ensign
Gabriel looked over at Salazar when he heard his name. As far as he could tell, he was neither dead nor shot, so this order applied to him. He rubbed his hands together in a futile attempt to warm them so he could at least feel them before climbing up over the embankment. There was a number of bodies strewn about the road, he chose the nearest one and crouched as he ran over to it. The fellow he ran up to had an arrow out of his lower back and he was unconscious, or dead. Gabriel knelt beside him and felt his neck for a pulse. While Gabe was no medical professional, he had lived long enough to know how to look for a pulse. There was a faint pulse. Gabriel thought for a moment the best way to move the body without hurting him more. He could come to no other conclusion than to try to carry the man. Gabriel carefully lifted him by putting his arms under his legs and chest. He was heavier than he looked, and Gabe strained. The man's head hung limp but there wasn't anything Gabriel could do. It was a short trip, Gabe figured, he would be ok. Gabe nearly tripped walking back down into the embankment and lowered the poor man down onto the mud, being careful that his head was straight and airway clear.
"Dang it, I can't leave him on his stomach like this," Gabe thought as he stood up, "if only I knew how to remove that arrow without hurting him more."
He looked around and saw the only medic he knew of working on someone else. This man's turn would have to wait, unfortunately. Gabriel felt terrible leaving him in the mud like this, but there were others who were injured, some may be worse off than he. He would have to wait for the medic like all the others.
Gabriel turned around and looked for the next person to help move...

Dr. Tita "Tt" Axunei
VR Simulation
Road of Pain

Tita stared up at the stars above her, the vastness of space could be made out. She seemed to study the blackness for a moment, as the immobilizing throb of three arrows, one effecting her knee, throbbed from her leg. Over head shots of blaster energy passed between her and the stars in the darkness above her.

Tita tried to recall what her training said for this situation. Unfortunately, her active shooter training assumed that she could either run away or barricade herself in some safe place. Most of the rules, other than “hide” and “be a small as target as possible” did not appear to apply to a road in the middle of a fire fight.

No, she did remember a student from medical school, older than the rest, who had been a combat medic before coming to university to get his medical degree. She couldn't recall his name. But he once said “in combat you have to keep moving…”. Well, that seemed the best idea. And although he had been a pain, having asked her out far too many times, he had been a decent doctor. She turned on her side and began to drag herself along towards the edge of the road.

She stopped when she reached someone who was whimpering. “There now…what is the problem?” The young human rolled slightly to show an arrow into into his chest…the sound of air bubbling around the wound showed how deadly the wound was.

Tita smiled without saying anything. She gripped his other hand. But a sudden shooting pain made her drop it.

An arrow pointed out, having driven through the flesh and bone, the sharp sides having almost cut her own hand.

Tita broke off the arrow head, and pulled out the shaft. She then used the sharp edge of the arrow head to cut off a strip of his uniform to bandage the wound. She looked at her current patient, “try to get up and get over the side…you can make it…I know you can.”

Tita had just finished this statement when someone crouched nearby checking on the other wounded around her.

“Here…help pull me over to one of the others needing medical attention…I can’t get myself up…”

Tita pointed to the arrows in her leg…

“I am Dr. Axuni…now help me get some of these people able to be moved…” She held out her left hand to let the person hoping they would drop, push, pull her over to someone else who needed help.

Violann

With the flight lieutenant's confirmation, Violann wasted no time in turning around to start moving towards the flanking team. She moved as fast as she could while trying to keep her profile over the embankment as small as possible. It would still take time for her to get there, especially as she tried to also stay alert of her own surroundings. If the primitives ambushed the column before, it was always possible that there was a straggler looking to take a shot of opportunity and cripple her and, by extension, the unit, but she's see them first with a bit of luck.

Dr. Tita was distracted for a moment. Then she nods, understanding that she most people here don't have any more experience than she does. I guess I have to teach on the fly...just like back in my residency. She thinks to herself.

"Be careful of touching the arrow in his chest. Once he is in cover we need to bind up that wound so the arrow doesn't move...otherwise help him over the edge..."

"Generally, we should move them if they are not wounded in soft tissue or vital organs...where unintended action of the arrow could cause more damage. If they have a leg or low torso wound we shouldn't move into the water until we've removed the arrow and bound the wound. We don't know what is in the water here that could start a rapid infection."

The Imarian Monarchy wrote:"What's wrong Salazar, besides Polaski we're mostly fine, he's getting help, and we won the battle" Calhoun asked teeth chattering from being cold.

Dr. Tita noticed the lack of empathy for any of the others laying out on the road wounded, including herself. She compartmentalized it for later...now she needed to act professionally and help those wounded.

Tita pointed to the arrows in her leg…

“I am Dr. Axuni…now help me get some of these people able to be moved…”

Gabriel heard this from a distance and felt immediately frustrated at himself. If he had waited all of 30 seconds, he could have asked her what he should do with the man he just moved.
"Dang it, Gabe, you're an idiot." He thought this to himself as he ran over to Dr. Axuni.

Gabriel ran up to the two as Dr. Axuni finished saying this. As he drew close he noticed the arrows sticking out of the doctor's leg.
"Great, you're about to bother an injured doctor. You're such a hero."
"Hey, Doctor, I'm sorry to distract you from what you're doin'," Gabe started with his vague southern accent, "but to be frank, I don't know what the heck I'm doin'. I've got a guy in the mud over there, he's unconscious and has an arrow out of his lower back, what should I do about him?"

James Allan

Medicine. This he had a firm grasp on, though his charges were usually more primitive than the scattering of human, kiel, and whatever other species had thrown in their lot that now found themselves peppered with arrows. Their resident doctor seemed starkly competent, something James had fully expected. Their marines were competent, if not the brightest, James knew for a fact he was hypercompetent in his fields, and so it made sense that the most important member of the crew, the doctor, would know her craft well. He approached the gathered crew, letting the doctor finish her instruction, though piping up at the end of it.

"You make an excellent teacher, doctor, though infection shouldn't be an issue in the timeframe. Well, that, and, unless I'm mistaken, we don't have the tools to remove an arrow safely, and certainly we can't be performing surgery in these conditions."

He began tearing his labcoat into long strips, his fingers surprisingly dexterous at the task. Apparently a monkey with a human's fine motor controls was capable of wondrous things, as it took him only a few seconds before he had a decent number of passable bandages, bandages he handed to the doctor.

"Not ideal, of course, but better than bleeding out! I'll allow you to decide who needs them the most."

He turned to the man who'd approached, noting his accent. A fellow southern boy, it seemed, though apparently further south than him.

"There isn't much to be done, frankly, without a proper surgical theater. The best we can do now is leave the arrow and carry him to our destination, and of course hope he doesn't bleed to death on the way. Though I'd advise against moving until our military component gives the order, yes?"

Dr. Tita

She took the few sets of bandages and said nothing as the Doctor attempted to run rough shod over her and her department.

Dr. Tita looked at the monkey, apparently thought he would countermand her instructions because he knew better. She recalled that same fellow student that she recalled before liked to do that. And she had not understood how to deal with such actions during her residency, and had felt frustrated by their actions. An older nurse had once pulled her aside and said "They do it to show off infant of you I think...like some kind of mating ritual. So either bed them or cut them off at the knees."

"I must disagree with the doctor on three points. The first is that this is a training exercise and we should act as though our actions do have consequences. No matter how well Dr. Allen may know Martian training simulations, the goal is to respond if the situation were real, that is where the value of training comes from. I made that mistake earlier letting my own wool gathering distract me and prevent me from reacting fast enough." She points at the arrows in her leg to make the point.

She shifted herself again. "Second, to the patient with back penetration, we need to see that the arrow has not penetrated his lungs or pleura from the back. If so, with his wound in the water, he maybe slowly filling his lungs or pleura, with water. A situation which will make his breathing more difficult and the patient more of a burden."

"Third, medicine is my department and my responsibility. I will gladly accept Doctor Allen's input into treatment. But I am responsible for the consequences of treatment decisions, therefore I, or my assigned staff, will make them."

She then turned her attention to Dr. Allen, "Since the Doctor thinks that we should leave all of the arrows in situ, perhaps he would be good enough to provide more bandages with enough strength to immobilize the arrows and prevent them from doing more damage while we move them for all of the patients?"

"That, or provide us with some form of device to cary wounded personal out? Because currently we don't have any medical extraction equipment which would be used to transfer the wounded to a medical field hospital without inducing more physical damage."

"Most of these patients are going to have to walk out on at least part of their own abilities, across obstacles and through deep water, making the probability of additional damage from the in-situ arrows highly likely and increasing the disability of those wounded unless they are securely bound. I am afraid that one small lab jacket will likely not cover all of the cases we seem to have here.

She turns her attention back to the young man with the southern accent (drawl?). "Apologies, I believe you are Ensign Schmeid? If you would help me up and take me over to the individual with the back wound. We should address that issue post haste, we wouldn't want the sim to go wanky because it doesn't have a subroutine for Pulmanary endma and just drowns him" She turns to the young woman handing a few of the bandages to her.

"And here are a couple of bandages. If you would bandage that young ensign up after reaching the safety of the embankment...in the form of a cross over the arrow across his chest like the old scottish flag."

Hyon Kyong-Su
"Then we got no choice than," Hyon said tiredly in Korean as he moved away from the wounded Polaski. "I am sorry, but we got to move, and that arrow will be removed later. There is little blood, and he can still breathe fine so just bear the pain for now." That was not the Hyon wanted, of course. But, without medical supplies, Violann's orders, and a timeframe to keep in mind. The wounded will just have to move with arrows in them. The chances are that they will not be able to take the arrows out before the simulation is over. So constant pain for those wounded, and that is something he hated. Then he heard what Calhoun and gave her a cold stare before focusing on getting the wounded moving.

Moving over to Dr. Tita, "Need help with anyone?" Quickly saying, "I am Hyon, and we have to make this introduction short. There is not much I can do with Polaski, and do you have spare bandages that I can use to tie his arrow in place?"

Ru Kyong-Su
Without orders from Violann, Ru chose to stay behind. Staying with the others and would take an eye on the area where the enemy used to be. Covering them the best he could before they would move. This is not good, he thought. He overheard what was being said, and he knows how he feels about having to leave the wounded like this. Having to walk with arrows in them and must be painful. He guessed it was a good thing that this is a simulation and not real life. Because they might have nasty life-threatening wounds or infections down the road. Still, his job is to keep everyone safe, while his brother's job keeps everyone alive. So Ru silently watched the treeline for any sign of movement, just in case whatever attacked them came back.

Gabriel Schmeid, Enginer Ensign
Gabriel was first rather amused as a monkey approached the small group they were in, but his amusement quickly changed to confusion as he heard the monkey talk.
"What in the blue blazes is that?!" He thought to himself. Gabriel pinched himself just to make sure he wasn't dreaming. He watched as the monkey continued to tear his coat into stripes and present them to the doctor.

"I'll be darned, a monkey is talking to me."
"Uh, yes I suppose," Gabriel started but stopped as he heard the Doctor speak up.

(Yeah, drawl is a better word I was looking for.) Gabriel waits for her to finish speaking, "Yes ma'am, I'm Ensign Schmeid."
Gabriel hesitated for a moment, he wanted to be sure he didn't cause more harm than good. Gabriel crouched beside her, "Here, put your arm around my shoulder for support and try to get on your good leg. I'll help you over."

Imogen Cyrano
Europa Undivided wrote:"Ah, Ensign Cyrano."

"Major has ordered us to gather the wounded and get the formation along the embankment. Seeing as you have gotten a shield... hmm. You should cover our rear as we move."

Imogen looked at the young officer for a moment
Really, that would be a bad idea...this shield weighs a ton...lets make see if the old Cheif's trick works here.

"Yes sir, I will be happy to work with the Marine riflemen you've assigned to the rear guard."
Rifles outrange and outclass my weapon kid, and I know how far hunting bows can reach...we may need to blast some holes in trees around here to keep them off our back... She thought.
"And it's good to have another Martian in these parts too."
Imogen looked a bit surprised at that, thinkingThe last Martian welcome I got was a spit in the eye kid...not sure you realize I'm persona non grata back on the ol' red world.

"I don't think either of his happy to be here sir..."

The Imarian Monarchy wrote:

Cyrano narrowed her eyes with disgust at the statement and the speaker, I might not trust some non-humans but that woman didn't care about anyone other than her friends. Class A Crack Jack Officer...Chief Monk you were damn right...

As Hyon Kyong-Su moves away towards the larger group she looks back to Salazar. "Quite, Sir...I think I'd better move and see if I can use this slab to give those folks who appear to be doing something out on the road a little protection against some archery while they get the wounded off the road."

Unless being stopped by the officer, she will follow the doctor towards the medical confab now occurring and place her large shield and herself between the group and the fire path. Essentially putting her shield closer to the far edge of the road and hunkering beneath the shield.

Dr. Tita

Dr. Tita recalled something at the end of her statement. "My apologies, it is Mr. Allan not Dr. Allen it not?...I am afraid the pain in my leg is causing me to not recall everyones medical files before this event. I was only able to do a cursory glance at most of them..."

(OOC: Yeah, which was my actual mistake...He only has 4 B.S. degrees...He'd never get assign as head of a sci department in most governments without one...my apologies for not noticing my error last night and fixing it before it got quoted by others...lets just blame it on the arrows and move on)

"Thank You..." She follows his direction allowing herself to be lifted onto her good leg. She winces in pain at this, I think we should both move to the edge immediately to stop being targets."

"Ah, good Hyon, I was hoping better conditions to start working together." She smiled at him with a grimace of pain. "If you would please see to help the other officer, who I can't recognize in this light, with bandaging his wound so the arrow is stabilized. Then see to the wounds of any of the others, making sure to stabilize those arrows, especially those in the water, we can get to Polanski's wound in a moment."

She hands him most of the bandages she still has. "Now then, I would say some pithy Earth phrase but my leg hurts too much..."

Rommel Salazar
"What's wrong Salazar, besides Polaski we're mostly fine, he's getting help, and we won the battle." Calhoun asked teeth chattering from being cold.

"Pffft." Rommel clicked open his wristwatch, which were counting down the hours that would lead up towards their extraction in this simulation. Earlier, almost everyone was looking for Calhoun, but now, she had just broken the element of surprise in their attack against the primitives. As a result, a bunch of people were wounded with arrows, not just Polaski, whose injury was kind of his own fault for peering out of the embankment. "Yeah. Everything is alright." He'd sound sarcastic. Of course she was.

"Yes sir, I will be happy to work with the Marine riflemen you've assigned to the rear guard."

Rommel scowled at this, as he doesn't recall assigning any of the marines to the rear guard as that was Violann's area of command. He was just placed in charge of gathering the wounded and getting everyone moving; Violann's marines were going to support the flanking group. "I didn't... whatever. Just get there."

"I don't think either of his happy to be here sir..."

"You have no idea." Rommel then gave her a wink as he spared a glance towards the argument between the Chief of Medical and the Chief of Science... it was kind of funny to see the Dhasath doctor tell the monkey scientist not to tell her how to do her job...

Finbarr Shanahan

Finbarr simply shrugged as the order came in. He was not in a helping mood, and figured that he'd rather not carry someone with an arrow stuck on them, as he was... weak. Instead, he would just rip off from his own labcoat, just like the monkey head of science, and gave the significantly larger impromptu bandages to the doctor. "Let's just get this thing over with. Another minute of idling in these waters and I will off myself."

James Allan

For a moment he held his tongue. She was more hostile than warranted, and considering he was the only one besides her with any medical knowledge outside of "blood should be on the inside", he thought she might appreciate the help. But apparently, not, and so James spoke up once more.

"Doctor, I believe in acting as the situation demands. When infection is an issue, that is when I will worry about infection, but here? There is no risk of infection. And frankly, we cannot act as if we have the resources required to treat any of these people. Realistically anyone with internal bleeding has a very stark chance of dying, and I can think of no way to create enough stretchers to carry the wounded, and that's ignoring where we'd get the people to carry them."

He gave a look around; there were more wounded than he'd first thought, though most of the injuries looked less severe. They'd be able to walk under their own power, at least.

"I will concede that I was wrong as to our friend in the water, however, and I will apologize for that. Though you should know that taking an arrow out of a wound without proper bandaging is a very quick way to bleed a patient to death, and it's your point that the bandages we have are nowhere near sufficient. My intent was that they'd be reserved for the most severely injured, and I gladly leave it to you to make the decision as to who falls in that category."

He'd made his point well enough, he thought, though he knew he'd have to apologize later. It would do no good to have bad blood between the scientific head and the medical head, after all. His conversation with the doctor done, in his eyes, he turned to his subordinate scientist, who'd followed his lead with his lab coat.

"Good, Dr. Shanahan, and it will certainly go further than mine. Though I'd request you keep the conversation more positive in the lab, my friend. Knowledge flourishes in a positive mind, I've found."

Hamza Sharaf, Operations Officer
The Swamp

Europa Undivided wrote:"Noted, Major Violann." Rommel then motioned to Em to follow him on the act to get the wounded off the road. Got it? Alright."

What the heck? He's getting this group to move again? Hamza shuddered at the thought of the half-breed shouting orders at him. So he'd have to get moving, and quick. Hamza dropped Archer at a sheltered place - not far from the embankment, but safe enough that he thought another volley of arrows are going to have a hard time getting there. Here and there the ship's crews are writhing in pain, and it fell to him to carry them off the embankment.

Alcona and Hubris wrote:She shifted herself again.

"Can we please calm down for a little?" Hamza shouted, his hand still supporting someone, before laying down gently the crew on the ground. He didn't get enough time to get back to Archer once he finished carrying off the wounded, but now he's here; and an argument between two leading officers about the technicalities of treating wounded people is not something he favored. "We don't have a stretcher. Nor a first aid kit. You plan on pulling that thing out, he's gonna sprout blood like a fountain. These wounded people can barely walk with a heavy pain where they're shot. They certainly can't if we want to pull the arrows out."

"And I'm not on the mood to carry on more folks while I have one that I need to support," gesturing at Archer. I should have known. Damned dhasath breeds like rats. No wonder they have rat brains as well. Only humans can think clearly at situations like this. It's not like the monkey's anything better, but at least Allen was a human.

"And I'm the operations officer," he continued. "If anything, it's my responsibility to care for things." That is when he realized something. Fuck, I don't have that glove with me in this sim. The mechanized glove has always been handy to him in every situation. Regardless, he need to make the most of what's available around him right now. He picked up an arrow beside the embankment. It was caked in mud, but it's still whole. Hamza snapped the arrow in half, and cleaned it by rubbing the arrowhead at his uniform. A coat lies in the mud; dirty and ragged, its owner having been dragged from the embankment before - but a coat regardless.

He crouched and start using the tip of the arrowhead to cut cleanly parts of the coat. Not too large; several centimeters wide, but at least ten times longer than its width. "Start making bandages, would you? Make it as long as possible. We don't have compressions and this thing's no latex, so you'd want to wrap it over and over to make sure it holds."

Once again, Hamza spared a glance at Rommel. He should do his job and babysit these aliens, he thought. Xenos are xenos. Can't expect better than this.

As Tita explained the basic procedures to Emily, the fucking monkey decided to try and contradict her, and started a fucking debate in an enemy kill zone about it. They were lucky nobody stuck around to shoot more arrows, especially now that everyone else (including that one motherfucker from earlier) seemed to be swarming around the medical doctor and the monkey.

"Thanks for the help, Doc." she said, nodding her head at Tita, as she crawled over to the man with the arrow in his chest, and gently dragged him towards the edge of the embankment, and used her arms to lower him softly onto the dry portion of ground between the road and the water. Once she was finished with that, she called out to Allan. "Alright, Dr. Zaius. Make yourself useful and hand me those bandages."
