That depends on what kind of religion you want to start. What kind of texts, rituals, icons, etc. do you want it to have? Claiming to be a God or Enlightened One usually doesn't hurt to spread your message.

Hmm, like a blend between all the Abrahamic Faiths and religion from the book Dune, but I'm mostly wondering how would a character go about the idea of makingg a religion, as in, how would such an idea even emerge, you know, we don't usually think aboutt makingg a religion

1) Collect a variety of different sayings and wisdom tales and claim them as your own.

2) Perform miracles using sleight of hand and science.

3) Cure the sick using a variety of herbs and modern ideas about health.

4) Identify and encourage a group of fanatically loyal followers.

5) Create a code for living.

6) Identify things that are forbidden sex on Saturday, goat meat, fried insects, red paper lanterns and come up with irrational but convincing reasons for what is forbidden.

7) Entice people with alcohol and other substances, gather a group of exceptionally handsome and beautiful young people.

Be prepared to go among the sick and weak and pull out the people who had bad fortune and turn their fortune around. These people become loyal and violent followers.

9) Create holy warriors convinced their death will bring them glory.

10) Perfom exotic rituals with live snakes and other creatures. This should include sacrificing goats, rams, cattle and other animals so that your followers can have feasts, or if you are vegetarian, collection of the first fruits and veggies.

11) Try and convince people that they will reach a higher state of being, enlightenment, access to the 45 virgins, perfect beauty, inner peace, fervent happiness, true valor, etc. through meditation and prayer.

12) Create a set of bizarre martial exercises that have them posing as birds, horses, donkeys, flute players, bulldogs, maidens, unicorns, and other things.

13) Create a strange chant and set of prayers that makes you feel good. Repetition of several words in the same pattern makes many people feel good. Yum! Oh! Yam! Oh! Yum!

It sounds like you're describing a parody of religion and it's great, I'm gonna probably do that, or some of that.

One of the biggest thing in an anthropological sense to do is to have your people experience what are known as Credibility Enhancing Displays, or CREDs. Shared community experiences which reinforce belief among the population. Although it may be strange to think about, religion in this sense isn't just a belief system - its a series of rituals promoting a particular social behavior and emotion.

Hard to say. They were just beginning the process of making precursors when the League showed up and they had a war.

If I remember correctly, the Kraken were on the way to develop gunpowder which will make them incredibly hard to dislodge. They were discussing barrel bombs and balangay boats. If you read about the Filipino pirates, they carried long spears, bows, shields, and heavy iron swords and were very fierce. There was a some discussion about guns, but to simplify things, I would imagine them having firelances to go with the barrel bombs. Combine this with fanaticism and you have a wonderful situation.
