Nothing as far as I can tell - but she did turn back some invasive tribe in a wonderful battle sequence.

Also, a little nugget of info you can have - Aksumites who are indigenous to the highlands have above average endurance when compared to peoples who live at lower elevations. Recently bought a book on the Himalayas, and in it, it mentioned the higher hemoglobin levels of the native Himalayan peoples, a trait only similarily shared by the native inhabitants of highland Ethiopians.

On the flipside of that. Anyone coming into your highlands region is not going to have a fun time, with the whole lack of oxygen bit.

That’s probably something that I should have reflected on when Andrew first arrived, but it’s been decades at this rate so I’m sure he’s fine now.

There is no miraculous invention. It is a matter of finding expensive spices with specific properties that already exist, frankincense, myrrh, hyssop, and other things. Negotiating to buy them for a considerable price and bringing them north. It is not an invention. This means sending people to Ur and then south to Arabia to talk to people, find the herbs, go to the trade routes and pay the weight in iron or gold to get them. There is no timeline for the plague. People will continue to die in large numbers. We will be deceived in some manners.

The Plague in Athens for example from 430 to 427 b.c. lasted for three years. The Plague of Cyprian in 251 a.d. lasted for 20 years. These will be long perilous trips going to Arabia and back, a year, going to Egypt, into the Cucuteni lands, going to Mesopotamia, and Africa to follow trade routes we have never seen seeking after rumored medicines which may or may not exist. People will disappear, die, be turned away and a variety of things.

We would reach the limits of our technology and try to find something else somewhere else if it is there at all. In fact, there might not be any cure, there may only be some more alleviation of a few symptoms of the liver, saving a few more people, but not a complete cure. Some of the herbs will not work at all, or be useful for other things.

We might be listening to snake oil and half truths told by Arab and Egyptian traders. It could just be ritual incense that smells good. I think I might include a little bit on being conned by an African trader for Iron for myrrh and herbs.

The Mesopotamians had a ritual to confine people to their houses for certain sicknesses. We would be at an impasse for a while and would try and do almost anything including sending people to look for a cure. Send delegates to Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Single Market. Things like securing the food supply (through trade and skulduggery), insuring that people followed the health protocols, would need to be done. Holding society together while people go and seek after unicorns. The next few posts will be about this kind of skulduggery, propaganda, and ways to keep people together, not so much technology.

I finally could post a post, unfortunately, it isn't as long, or as much happened as I would like, but it means more time to flesh out the newly introduced characters.
( in the next post: Aleksander adopts the name Nafsi for good, entrenches in the newfound faith, and gains first followers )

How is the post looking? Is it any good?

Seems alright to me. My only major complaint is that a spiritual leader wouldn't be thrown off by an easily countered, entirely subjective argument like that. Especially since they're likely 100% convinced of their own beliefs.

Nature itself is evidence of their faith. Meanwhile all you have is a fancy knife.

Haven't you forcibly moved a lot of people around? I imagine that a lot of the new arrivals would be hard put in adapting to their new mountainous home.

Just as an example, Han Chinese child mortality rates are three times higher in Tibet as opposed to any native peoples.

While that’s true, a lot of people being moved around tend to be in relatively similar environments. Though some people do get sent to Aksum from farther away, so That’s worth making note of.

That's kind of what I was thinking :lol2:

That whole conversation pretty much went:
Shaman: You were guided to us by the spirits.
Aleksander: But what if it was God?
Shaman: No child, it was not.
Aleksander: Yeah but what if?
Shaman:... Damn, you got me...

Well hey - if you want to do it, you should have your Author do it. He is, after all, you. And I’ll bet the power behind a throne has some delusions of grandeur and stressors he needs to unwind from. That’s what human failings are all about.

Dammit, I knew I did it wrong... I guess my opinion of religions doesn't help, I'll do it better next time, I think I'll retcon it at the shaman just being angry that Aleksander didn't want to accept something so obvious to him

I think it is an improvement over previous posts, it is longer and includes more dialogue than before. It could include a little more descriptive language, adjectives and colors.

As an idea, there are a few more things that are not medical that can be done. We can interview the patients to see what they were doing before they caught the plague. It might lead to the closure of brothels because of bodily contact... Also, we can watch for it more closely trying to catch people who get it earlier. Forbid sexual contact with patients...

Well that’s the thing, such a thing would be pretty out of character for me to do. I know me, that’s not how I handle stress. But I think it’s a funny character arc for someone else.

The first, corn is harvested in the early fall

The second, I should expect your return journey to be much lengthier than your arrival. A transcontinental journey like yours I should hope takes more than merely one or two posts - on top of this, be aware that you will not be able to ride the Mississippi ( or any other river for that matter ) back up to the north, as you are now down stream.

And when you get back, Good News, I have an event for you :)

Ye I know its harvest in the early fall, but it tends to sprout above the ground by late summer and its planted in early may. Also ye I fully plan to take a longer route back north, likely 2-3 posts, atleasts 2 months. Needless to say we'll def miss the corn planting season for this year, but the seed will still be useable for the year after. My plan was for my character to create a more complete map of the region and the cultures in the eastern US. Also ooo am excited for this event.

I am reading The Macedonian Hazard A Ring of Fire Novel by Eric Flint, Gorg Huff, and Paula Goodlett. It is published by Baen Books. Baen publishes mainly military science fiction. It is rather entertaining alternate history.

Well now that depends, what's an uff?

Also, at this point in history, I dont think MesoAmerica is using potash or Sulphur, so they wouldn't really have established means of extraction.

Thank you, unfortunately it does not make me feel better, as dialogue IRL can be easily forgotten, but poor writing will haunt forever ( admittedly it is an issue with myself, and I will try to make better dialogue the next time I post )
