Notice!

G-Tech, Orostan, if both of you are in, plus me, Borts, and Joohan, plus two friends outside of the New Civs community that Borts and I might be able to pull in, that will make seven players. I consider that enough to get the campaign off the ground.

The Humble sale on the game ends in a bit less than two days, so G-Tech, Orostan, if you guys are in then I need you to confirm your participation no later than tomorrow, please. We're thinking 14:00 UTC Saturdays, for our time.

If anyone else is interested, too, let me know. If you don't have the game yet then let me know quickly so that I can buy it for you. :p

Borts and I have been busy modding the game to better fit the New Civs setting. It isn't and will never be a good fit, but we figure we can at least try and replicate that civilisation-feel. We'd feel amazing if we actually get to play with all of our efforts. :)

I wouldn't mind participating since I already own EU4, but considering the region I live in is extremely rural, my connection would be spotty.

No problem; we won't be playing competitively, and there are enough guides on the internet to get you playing at least decently. Shoot me a telegram if you need me to buy you the game.

I believe I own the game, pretty sure I do lol.

Hey, rather than starting in the Levant, could I instead begin writing my character's story in Cyprus within the NPC civ of the Kraken Pirates?

Kay, so, for your event - at first glance you won't be able to really tell what it is I did, so i'll explain: the monsoons have cleared away parts of the topsoil and forest ( as is typical of the season ) to reveal that Daungg Kyaayyrwar is actually surrounded by surface level iron ore deposits ( that's what the red rock Khin hit his foot on is ).

Mind you, you're not sitting on top of an iron ore mine - but you do have a nacsent supply in the area, with a few big stones - more than enough for, say, experimentation...

G, a while ago we were talking about transmission of the flux - but then Texas froze and I wasn't able to get back to you:

waste material is actually a pretty excellent way of spreading diseases in areas with poor infrastructure - you know, like most of Europe rn. Sure people know to stay away from that stuff naturally, but sometimes you just can't help it, especially in urban environments, or when down river of some places. The rabid urbanization of cities throughout Europe and pretty low development of infrastructure outside of a very few select places is pretty much perfect for the spread of disease via waste contamination - hell, just look at all the damage wrought by cholera and typhoid each year.

And then of course is regular droplet transmission by things like sneezing, kissing, and * puts on Indian Jones hat * nocturnal activities. The flux doesn't need pustules in order to spread at a rapid pace.

Didn’t you establish that the Flux didn’t interact with the respiratory system?

At this point Cyprus is conquered. It is occupied by followers of the Great Bull and Celestial Goddess (fanatics...) , Diaghis the Wolf of the Sea, and different specialist elements like the Silver Scorpions, and scout units of the Hunter Warriors. they are cleaning out the harbors for the remains of ships.

It would be interesting to have another opponent though, or someone to lead them to safety. There still have been some recent Kraken attacks around Salt though and an assassination attempt on Victor Spear.

Looking forward to it.

Wasn't necessarily looking to lead the pirates so much as I wanted to cut my author's teeth as one. As for Cyprus itself, basically the same idea. Not sure where im looking to take this author, but i'm more going to be focused on his adventure for now, rather than conquest or warfare.

“It causes failure of the kidney's and liver, resulting in the blood becoming less oxygen rich, and eventually putting the brain into a state of shock, inducing brain death. Not that any of you would know this, or have any practical way of figuring that out, but just some info to put in your back pocket.

Symptoms include: fainting, light headedness, nausea, vertigo, lethargy, bloody urine, narcolepsy, and hallucinations. ”

Well, none of these are respiratory symptoms, or interact with the respiratory system. I noted that there was potential for respiratory spread near death as contaminated blood breaches into the lungs from swollen tissues, but that’s not exactly going to be a large transmission vector.

That should be a fun ride. There are a lot of really interesting ideas in the Kraken. They also are littered with both forbidden knowledge, occultism, and weird science.

By the way, due to the shenanigans of most people in Europe and Middle East, Iron has managed to surpass the use of Bronze and Stone in those areas right ( wanna make sure that I don't make a mistake )

Probably not, just on dint of scale and size. Industrial bootstrapping takes a long time, and consumes most of its own output in a dedicated program. Plus in the ME both bronze and iron are imports.

Oh yes quite. Just clarifying that we’re dealing with a disease of bodily fluids, not an airborne vector.

Thus the way to stop transmission would be to stop sex, clean food and surroundings, and stop transmission by blood? Thus a crackdown on the Temple of Eros and the temple maidens along with bordellos. Would interviews with patients as attempts to track the disease reveal the sexual contact? I have a fragment written up about Erra visiting the Temple Maidens of Ishtar.

Also, it is 1032.6 kilometers from Abdera to Santorini. With a fast catamaran ship, it could go 6 knots per kilometer. This would take about 4 days. With all the obstacles and diversions. A fast courier might take a week to reach Santorini. Add in the travel time to send the package by road to Abdera. Duplicate packages in case one is lost. Add in another 4 days travel. Thus about two weeks for a package between Santorini and Oak.

That would help, though it wouldn't stop transmission. Vomit, feces, phlegm, even sweat will carry the virus during the end stages of the diseases. I'd assume sexual contact is primarily a minor vector, despite it being how Joohan introduced the plague, on account of relatively minor viral load in terms of accessibility to infected organs.

However, it would encourage puritanical cleaning mania which is what is happening at Salt. This will spread throughout the Nestos League as they would be the ones with the least deaths. Also imagine a black oilskin (waterproof) leather suit with a poisoners mask and hood. The mask would be a white beak with charcoal packets in the nose and herbs.

very cool art!

just read through the post and i see fossias, oh that plan. Would it be sensible to use my knowledge to help the tribe migrate up north just enough to avoid hurricanes and stuff and implant myself in a more traditional confederation with other native americans.
