Capilean News (Updated 16 November)
Where is the horse gone? Where the warrior?
Where is the treasure-giver? Where are the seats at the feast?
Where are the revels in the hall?
Alas for the bright cup! Alas for the mailed warrior!
Alas for the splendour of the prince!
How that time has passed away, dark under the cover of night, as if it never were.

His slogan could be “Make America Nice Again”, he’d win in a landslide.

But seriously though, if he ran and if uh.... who’s a Democrat known for being nice? Biden, maybe? But that could just be because he’s an old-fashioned gentleman with old-fashioned sensibilities.

You get what I’m trying to say, it would be niceness all around. The country deserves a break from the toxicity of the past few years.

I never said they had the best foreign policy ideas, I said they were nice people, those are separate conversations.

If you want America (and Western countries, generally) to pull back from foreign interventionism, I suppose you’ll need to elect more socialist, progressives, libertarians, or otherwise isolationist folks. But that opens up a whole different conversation about other issues...

Oh I know that, I'm just making a point that nice people can do horrible things and them being nice shouldn't in any way deflect from the horrible things

Character State of Origin: Arkansas
Character State of Residence: Texas
Character Party Affiliation: Democratic

Main Strengths: Extremely strong connections to Democratic Establishment, extremely intelligent, wealthy donors like Everytown for Gun Safety and NARAL, savvy on economic issues

Main Weaknesses: Past of anti-LGBT rhetoric, viewed by some as “out of touch”, reputation as a carpet bagger, horrible relationship with Progressives as he views them as “spoilers” and selfish if they holdback their vote for Democrat, also privately hates Conservative and Evangelical voters who he sees as stupid and holding back progress, just a snobby prick in general.

Biography: Harold William Baines was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in April of 1955. He spent most of his childhood life around money, seeing as his father a baker and his mother a school teacher. At only two years old he already had politics shoved into his life as his mother witnessed the National Guard escorting two African-American children to her school after Brown V. Board of Education.

After High School Harold attended college in Texas on a soccer scholarship, getting his BS in Economics from Texas A&M. While there he met his future wife Julia Vargos from Mexico. He started to love Texas and always joked with his parents he’d live there one day.

As he was graduating from college Harold witnessed Richard Nixon announce before the nation that he would resign from office. In response to this Harold registered himself as a Democrat, although he didn’t really know the difference. In 1977 he returned to schooling to receive his MA in Economics from Columbia University in New York. He finally returned home to Arkansas to take a job in Fayetteville as a Market Research Analyst.

In 1984 he became a professor at Arkansas State University teaching economics to younger students. He never really felt that satisfied though in his work. In 1988 he was devastated as Democrats lost their third Presidential election in a row in a landslide. He agreed with the idea that the party needed to moderate to appeal to voters again as opposed to running diehard liberals. He applied to get involved in assisting the current Governor of Arkansas, who also happened to be the next President of the United States.

In 1992 Harold was brought on to work with fundraising for the Clifford campaign. He helped work on getting TV ads up during the New Hampshire primary. After Clifford was successfully elected President Harold was convinced by other campaign members to run for office himself. He returned home to Arkansas and was elected to its 1st Congressional District in 1994 despite the GOP landslide that year.

He governed as a New Democrat similar to President Clifford himself. He voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act, a decision that still haunts him to this day. He also voted in favor of legislation such as the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 (although he opposes the new Iran version) and supported intervention in Yugoslavia.

In 1998 he voting against impeaching President Clifford as he felt personal life wasn’t grounds to remove the President from office. In 2000 he was deeply disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision to give the election to President Burke instead of Not-Gore. However the feelings were quickly replaced as he turned his attention to foreign affairs post 9/11. He voted in favor of invasions of both Afghanistan and Iraq, the latter he would later regret. He also voted in favor of the AWB renewal and voted against raising the debt ceiling.

In 2007 he endorse Diane Clifford for POTUS and supported her all the way until she dropped out, then turning his support to future President Baharia. After Baharia taking office Harold was tapped to serve as Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs underneath not-Gary Locke. It was during this time that Harold changed his residence from Arkansas to Texas, having been heavily campaigning in the start for Diane in the primary and doing community service work in Houston. He decided to move to Texas from this as well as wanting to escape Arkansas in which political prospects for Democrats was becoming almost non-existant.

During his time in cabinet Baines worked with banks and other organizations to help pull America out of the Great Recession. He supported the bailouts of banks all through the recession. He also supported the creation of the Trans Pacific Partnership, helping to draft it right before he left the cabinet.

In 2015 he left the Baharia cabinet and decided to run for Mayor of Houston, America’s fourth largest city. He easily defeated his GOP opponent and took office early 2016. During his time as mayor he has overseen the response to Hurricane Harvey, as well as passing sweeping gun laws in the aftermath of Sutherland Springs. He has become an outspoken supporter of gun control after El Paso. He supported not-Beto in the 2018 Senate election and Suraj Shah in the 2019 Special. He has strongly contemplated running in the 2020 race to fill the seat being vacated by Howard Frankston.

supported intervention in Yugoslavia.

It was during this time that Harold changed his residence from Arkansas to Texas, seeing as Arkansas had essentially become ruby red.

During his time as mayor he has overseen the response to Hurricane Harvey. He supported not-Beto in the 2018 Senate election and Suraj Shah in the 2019 Special. He has strongly contemplated running in the 2020 race to fill the seat being vacated by Howard Frankston.

Other Info: He is a Centrist New Democrat, Married with no children, hopes for Miguel Velez to win nomination for President, views Dayton and Murphy as too progressive.

Supported for POTUS:
-Jimmy Carter 1976
-Jimmy Carter 1980
-Gary Hart and then Mondale 1984
-Gore and then Dukakis 1988
-Clifford 1992
-Clifford 1996
-Not-Gore 2000
-Not-Gephardt then Not-Kerry 2004
-Diane Clifford and than Baharia 2008
-Baharia 2012
-Clifford 2016
-Likely Miguel Velez 2020

Biography: Augustus was nicknamed from an early age as Ace due to his excitement to play cards with his grandfather. But the young boy, despite his love for these games of chance, often preferred strict rigidness and growing up in a family dedicated to military service only added to this. He was born and grew up in Sumter, South Carolina, being a popular kid in school and eventually playing football at his high school. While not the best, he flexed his strength on the field and remained a top dog at school along with his high school sweetheart, a beautiful girl named Rosie. He had also joined ROTC during his time at high school and upon graduating, he got engaged with high school sweetheart before leaving to attend West Point, an opportunity presented to him not because of his average grades but rather his obvious engagement and eagerness.

He went on to graduate as an officer and enlisted in the United States Army as an Executive Officer. Returning home for a brief time, Ace ended up marrying Rosie before leaving on his first deployment, learning soon after that he was set to be a father. He began his service on a number of brigades and companies before eventually joining the Aero-Scout Platoon. He subsequently became an later Operations Officer before requesting the opportunity to complete the AH-64 Aviator Qualification Course at the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence at Fort Rucker, Alabama. His explementary service thus far earned him the recognition and support needed to transfer and behind his training as a pilot.

While training and eventually flying several missions, Ace eventually saw service and combat during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia, earning him a number of medals and recognitions. He was also rising through the ranks and achieving notable commands or auxiliary command roles at posts including the Seventh Army in Germany, Fort Stewart in Georgia, Fort Irwin in California, and later at Camp Doha in Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom thus marking him with an active career in the Army. He became known for his methods of strict leadership and high moral among troops for being a respected leader, nicknamed a "BullDog" not just for his demeanor but his love for card games made jokes about the famous painting of dogs playing poker quite notable.

A few years after the completion of his time at Camp Doha, he was recalled to the United States where he was one of the final members of the Army to be nominated by (Not-Bush) for promotion and earned the rank of lieutenant general. This was largely considered a big moment for the General as he had long striven for the honor and was also considered an incentive for him to continue with his service as there were rumors that he disagreed with the proposals by apparent nominee Baharia on Iraq. But he remained on duty as the new administration won and eventually took office, going on to assume commands of the V Corps in Germany before later moving to Fort Bragg to oversee another development intermittently, and before finally settling at his last command post in South Korea commanding the American and United Nations forces.

By now though, Ace had had his share of the Army and sought retirement as a respected general with a notable number of awards and medals though he remained an advocate of "smart strength" which was countering America's enemies in a way that did not cost them any further wars or lives but without blind retreats, something he privately and later openly criticized the Baharia administration of doing. He was a big advocate of modernization and rebuilding a modern American military and served as a consultant for a brief period after retirement with many companies in the Washington area focused on defense development and research.

But overall, Ace's retirement was brief because after he had settled back in South Carolina, he instantly began to be courted by local activists, grassroots conservatives, and frustrated social conservatives to seek office. His deep religious ties was well know and he was also somewhat already known for his conservative beliefs too. Not to mention that many believed his retirement and constant change in commands was likely due to pushback from the Baharia administration seeking to keep him quiet or punishment for certain disagreements. But Ace remained hesitant before finally being courted by a group of ardently right-wing veterans to do his duty and lead once more. So began his surprise primary against (Not-Nikki Haley).

He ran an insurgent campaign focused on what he called a stronger mandate for social conservatism, remarking quite notably that "Gov. (Not-Haley) is running South Carolina like a business, which is great. But South Carolina needs to be more than a business, we need to be a Christian business with values." The exchange and primary drew out and while the establishment sided with the incumbent Governor, his widespread populist messaging began to turn heads and he began to recruit a large scale grassroots operation. Furthermore, the revelation of (Not-Haley)'s campaign having been cited for several donation violations allowed Ace to swing at her for being too concerned with earning money and probably corrupt. The lies of the Perlman campaign held little bearing but turned the tide and eventually produced surprising turnout, eventually leading to a narrow victory for the General.

After conceding and promising to not run as an independent, Perlman cruised to victory in the general election in 2014 though he made several gaffes in his debate appearing to not understand how certain state taxes worked when confronted by his Democratic opponent. While in office, he brought down the Confederate Flag in South Carolina, saying that "American soldiers only fight under the American flag so why not hold the same standard for all Americans?", a notable action that earned him praise for some though he was criticized for how long it took him to come to the decision, especially following the incidents of the white supremacy march which he has remarkably failed to extensively comment or disparage since it happened. Furthermore, Ace has passed legislation against transgenders including bathroom bills and birth certification requirements while also further lowering business taxes by cutting environmental regulation bodies and state education.

Ace has quickly brought down the hammer on his party in the state and has maintained a strict discipline among state legislators, enabling him to create a state-wide program to subsidize police departments to target human & drug trafficking despite facing a tight budget which often meant pushing aside other pressing needs like port repairs or infrastructure needs. He has also expanded voter ID and sought to encourage his secretary of state to purge voter rolls in order to prevent fraud.

More broadly in national politics, he was one of the first major endorsements of Arnold Wolf, announcing his support days before the SC primary. Ace has been credited for helping drive out voters for Wolf despite the future President already having a healthy lead coming into the polls, likening his brash style of politics as "exactly what the nation need after several years of a sleepy administration". Perlman, more broadly, has been an ally of the administration and rose to national prominence after he was rumored to be in the running for Secretary of State or UN Ambassador given his service abroad and understanding of America's need to reform its relationship with its allies and foes. But he eventually chose to run for a second term instead and won with only minor primary challengers and a moderately tough Democratic opponent who he beat.

The General has continued his tough approach to politics and has been called "South Carolina's Bulldog Governor" given his brash nature and his nickname in the Army. Furthermore, he has continued to pass legislation including anti-corruption laws that some have hailed as great but have also been criticized as ways for Ace to weaponize the Secretary of State against candidates or fellow Republicans he does not like. He has also made do on a promise of more restrictive abortion measures including new regulations on abortion providers and ultrasounds before abortions, and passing a heartbeat bill as well. He also raised some national controversy for intervening in state curricula by using his gubernatorial powers to seek changes to classes offered at South Carolina's flagship university and helping select a fellow conservative, former Army veteran as the new chancellor of the university.

Other Info: Thus far, Ace has not yet commented on the ongoing GOP primary race and has been rumored to potentially be preparing for his own run later in 2024 or beyond, thus his decision to play his cards close to his chest just like in 2016. But he continues to be an actively partisan voice in the GOP and remains a loud voice among conservatives. The General and his family have adopted several dogs from shelters and he attends church regularly.

I think it's best if you did more with your current slate of Revere before adding more. It would be a break from tradition to add more characters onto players who have an irregular activity cycle. And the Governor of Pennsylvania, outside Presidential Politics, if you do desperately want a second character, I'd strongly advise you to take on a legislator so as to offer you a diversity of player load and an opportunity to more regularly engage in the RP.

Reading through the Richardson speech is making me gag

He's trying so hard to be a Wolfist but the policy wonk is strong in this one, its like watching Warren trying to rally Sanders supporters.

its awkward yes, ideologically and policy wise Trump/Wolf never developed anything coherent behind his populism. Wedding the wolfism rhetoric with policy was always going to be a mess but the bones are there and it will continue to develop.
