Porter is basically a political hypochrondiac, and I think I stated before in the meeting with Prendy that he wanted to shut down foreign travel into America as much as possible with any excuse he can for national security reasons.

Also tbf for all we know this could be something really minor and the real crisis is about how everyone panicked too much about the cold-like virus causing an economic crash.

And also also MERS - the strain of coronavirus between SARS 1 and SARS 2 - killed half of its victims. That is definitely cause for panic.

Fatality rate was around 35% and even then, less than a thousand people died because of it. Not sure how that would greatly alarm people, especially when we know that it didn't.

WHO says 43%, but anyway.

It would alarm people because high infection rates + pretending there's a fatality rate of 40-50% = death. I mean it really depends, I'm going to treat it like they treated Ebola anyway, with a travel ban after ~1000 cases per week, which I'm assuming it's reached since IRL COVID hit it in its first week.

It's definitely an overreaction and I could expect serious pushback on Republicans from business. Moving to slam down travel bans on East Asian countries at the slightest whiff of the new disease would have extreme economic impacts.

I agree with Azek, we can't time travel and put our mindset to a year and a half ago, our reactions will be as though we know whats going to happen. A virus ic and a virus irl that are both very similar, will not get an authentic and fresh mindset that another 9/11 per say would, or a massive hurricane, or a bomb getting dropped somewhere. A virus is just too real.
