Jack Davis headed to Harvey's Butcher Shop with Tanya and Luna in tow. After an hour and a half of walking, they arrived at the butcher shop, walked in, and headed to the gambling area. It was a small room with five tables, a woman in full body armor playing Blackjack at one table while three Samurai were taking their chances at the Roulette table. However, the crown jewel was the Poker table, seven men sitting down, Jack instantly recognizing the guy who had won the jackpot with the Ace Of Spades, the Ace Of Clubs, the King Of Spades, the King Of Hearts, and the Queen Of Diamonds. "We've got two and a half hours to leave, Jessie. Time to cash out." Jack said Jessie ashe grabbed the boxes full of Sheep Steaks and ten of the chips with 100 on them. "I will pay you back when we reach Boise." Jack reassured Jessie.

Jessie stared back at Jack. A dog wandered in pawing at his left pant leg. Jessie threw down a bone left over from a plate of ribs. Three samarai looked over has he placed his cards down.

"Who's mutt is this? That man who won seems suspicious. Let's get on outta here."

"Relax. Jessie's with me." Jack Davis said to the Samurai at the Roulette table before sending the dog back to Owen, the three Samurai going back to gambling. "I forgot to introduce you. Jessie, this is Luna. She is going to be heading to Boise like everyone else in the convoy. Anyway, I've got to head back to the truck with Tanya. Here, Luna. Cash these out and head back to Owen. Jessie, go with her. We meet Tex earlier and I prefer for Luna to not be walking alone when he is in town. Yes, that Tex. The same one that you bragged about filling with lead and turning in the bullet ridden corpse for the reward." Jack said to Jessie, the gambling area becoming silent. "You won't be collectin' that reward if I cash in on his hide." The cowboy at the Craps table said to Jack as he rolled snake eyes, losing half of his poker chips. "We will be the ones who get that million Ration Cards." The three Samurai said to the cowboy as the ball hit thirty-one black, the pile of chips doubling. "Wait until we're on the road before you go after him. You will have plenty of chances to do the deed outside the walls." Jack said to the cowboy and the three Samurai, the four men heading to the counter to cash out.

Tex's arrival had sent things straight to shit, Marcus thought, strapping his battered old Casio digital watch on and loading a few clips in the truck. He'd seen something of a confrontation between Tex and Jack with Tanya and the redhead on second billing, but had wisely followed the old saw not to trouble trouble unless it troubled him. On a run as long and demanding as this, you need to be able to trust everyone. Not completely, you'd be a damn fool to these days, but enough to work well as a team and Tex . . . well, he ain't that kind of guy. He shoved the box containing the rest of the ammo under the bed before jumping out and walking back to Owen's shop, but this time knocking on the back door. "Yo, Paulie! If you're not busy kneecappin' some poor bastard, is it true you're havin' a sale on ration books?"

"Y'know, I'll take a couple breaths... of nicotine." Tex replied as he opened his box of varying tobacco products, opening a pack of cigarettes and taking one out. He closed the box back up, stuffing the rest of the pack in his pocket and grabbing a lighter from another pocket. He put the cigarette in his mouth, bringing the lighter to his mouth and lighting it. He then stuffed the lighter back in his pocket, taking a long drag on the cigarette. He took it out of his mouth, blowing an impressive smoke ring, giving a somewhat flashy smile afterwards. "We haven't even started and I'm already smoking. I didn't know y'all would be that pissed. However, one of these days y'all are gonna want one too." said Tex before everyone started following Jack. Tex wasn't a heavy smoker, but he liked a little nicotine to keep him calm every once in a while, as it convinced him not to act out violently if someone even slightly angered him. Tex thought about the "compliment" Luna gave him about being able to keep a crude tongue going even when he was basically considered public enemy number one. As Luna and the mask lady strode away, he decided maybe he'd return the favor, "Well girl, maybe you're not giving yourself enough credit. You faced down someone who could have decided to tear your throat out at any moment and told him he was full of shit, I respect that, makes me wonder if your bite says something more than your bark." Tex very rarely complimented anybody on anything ever, as most were too scared to face him down like that. He'd complimented twice already today, in his own unique way of course. He lagged behind the others as they headed wherever they were going, taking long drags on his cigarette before chucking it at a random person wearing a very baggy, loose-fitting shirt. He smiled, internally laughing as it landed on the guy's neck and fell down his shirt. A loud yelp could be heard as the guy was burned. Tex sped up his pace, catching up with the others and keeping his chuckling hushed, a grin present on his face. As they reached the gambling area, Tex split off from the group, examining the various people present. One individual that caught his eye was a young kid you seemed to wander aimlessly around. He had short blonde hair and brown eyes and was rather tall and lanky. The kid had a rifle slung over his back with a holstered pistol on his hip and a backpack. As Tex continued moving, the kid accidentally bumped into him, knocking the kid back while Tex stood unfazed, glaring at the kid, who's face was reflected clearly off of Tex's sunglasses, his face remaining blank and stoic as they made eye contact. "The fuck is your problem you little piece of shit!?" Tex spat angrily through his gritted teeth.

Cody Barrow

He looked up at the man that had just knocked him back. It was a look he had heard about a lot, but he never thought he'd actually be looking at the man. A read sweatband, reflective aviators, battle scars. Yep, this was him. This was Tex, a batshit crazy killer that took morbid trophies and a seemingly bottomless amount of rage against everyone around him. "Ain't got any problems with you, just tryna find the crew headed to Boise." Cody said to Tex in a monotone voice, devoid of emotion and representative of a cool and calculating person. Tex's brows unfurrowed, and he stopped gritting his teeth. "Lucky for you, I have just the thing you're looking for, follow me." replied Tex as he went in the direction of the rest of the crew. As the two arrived, they found Jack speaking to four men all playing different games. "Hey Jack, found this kid nearby, says he's headed to Boise." Tex said to Jack. Cody, standing by Tex's side, said, "Name's Cody." to Jack, Luna, and a mysterious character wearing a gas mask.

Marcus finally finished loading everything he needed to max capacity, looking up only to find everyone gone. Right, the Jack person had a crew he had needed to collect before the trip got started, that was what Owen said. Apparently the sniper had gotten a little too absorbed in his task. His eyes flare for a second, doing a quick check over his hands and arms to see if he had left any marks during his lapse and thankfully found none. So he hadn't gotten too bad.
Unfortunately the trip to where they were wasn't worth driving so he needed to get the briefcase again. Right after putting all his stuff up. The magazines and speedloaders are deposited back into their places in the backseat or the trunk, the rifle is pulled from the seat up on his shoulder again(heavy thing but great for staying in shape when he lugged it everywhere), and the case is drawn from the floor. He shuts and locks up the vehicle, turning to walk down the street to where he recalled most of the crew was supposed to be by now.
The mercenary crosses an old friend of Maria's that he hadn't known was here, saying hi but she couldn't stay to talk and had her own job to get to apparently. It puts him in a better mood though and he lets her know where he and his wife were staying if she wanted to get in touch before proceeding onward. He finds the group as promised, Jack and his already known guard along with another he guessed was the one being picked up. And a couple others he hadn't been certain were joining.
He certainly recognized Tex, not having worked with the guy before but the man had enough of a reputation to be known by many on sight. Marcus couldn't recall the one with him though. Nevertheless, the convoy was shaping up to be well-supplied.
"Huh. Looks like our sponsors are really reaching into their pockets for this trip."

Luna stayed back out of the way through the entire journey to the butcher's shop, keeping close in with Tanya and Jack when they finally made it inside. By then, the rush of talking back to Tex had long faded and she was back to her usual, timid self as Jack talked with who she assumed was Jessie. "Jessie, this is Luna," Jack explained, "She is going to be heading to Boise like everyone else in the convoy. Anyway, I've got to head back to the truck with Tanya. Here, Luna. Cash these out and head back to Owen. Jessie, go with her. We meet Tex earlier and I prefer for Luna to not be walking alone when he is in town. Yes, that Tex. The same one that you bragged about filling with lead and turning in the bullet ridden corpse for the reward." Luna smiled and waved to Jessie as silence dropped like a rock over the table. "Um. Where're we going?" she added, doing her best to look over the heads of everyone in the room as a few of the men sat around the table returned to their gambling, "You won't be collectin' that reward if I cash in on his hide." The cowboy at the Craps table said to Jack as he rolled snake eyes, losing half of his poker chips. Luna moved to follow them, stopping dead as Tex came into view. He said something to Jack and the kid he had with him introduced himself as Cody. Luna glared at Tex again, "don't tell me you followed us here," she said, pocketing the chips she had been given. Her face softened as she greeted Cody, "hi I'm Luna, I'm assuming you're with the convoy?" she added, making her way over to where the rest of the group was cashing in. Once she had joined the line she addressed Jessie for the first time, "that was awkward," she blurted out, "sorry, I'm passing through here; I joined up with you guys for my next leg. I'm a mechanic, by the way." The line had cleared by the time she turned back. Digging around in her pocket, she produced all ten of the chips and greeted the teller, "Hey, I've got," she paused and stacked all the chips in her hand, "a thousand here to cash out." she said, handing them over. The teller wordlessly took them, counted out all ten, and handed her back a thousand ration cards. "Thanks," she smiled and stepped away, looking around again for a moment before she made her way out.

"Sorry, sometimes I think Southerners are genetically loud." Marcus did some quick math. "How much for two smalls?" You paid more than if you bought one medium, but you got a decent percentage more cards. "And don't worry, I've got the real deal right here in my pocket. Works wonders for my allergy to aluminum baseball bats," he said teasingly.

"Is this your hired muscle? He looks a little young for this route. The hot sun, the bandit attacks, having to cross five states, I don't think he can handle it." Jack Davis said to Tex before he and Tanya headed back to his truck. After an hour and a half, they returned to the vehicle and walked towards this, the tarp still covering the cargo. Jack wiped off some dust off the rear view mirror before checking the tarp. "We will need to tighten these knots before we leave. Even if we're not driving through a thunderstorm, we can't risk the tarp falling off the bed of the truck. If Mister Grayson's west coast contacts are to be believed, then Diego Industries has a mole or two in the convoy. We will need to be on the lookout for any bandits with shiny new military equipment. Chances are that it is a down payment for stealing the shipment." Jack said to Tanya as he inspected the tarp.

When asked about Cody, Tex replied, “Jack, everyone knows I’m a loner. This little shit ran into me and said he was going to Boise, probably a hitchhiker if you ask me. If anything there is some entertainment value in seeing newbies get their asses and then their head handed to them, so might as well let him tag along.” Cody followed up with a comment of his own, “I’m sure I’ll find enough booze lying around to get me through.” After hearing this, Tex looked at Cody, then back at Jack, giving a shrug before walking off for the express purpose of disappearing. Later, Tex tracked Tanya and Jack to the vehicles, arriving in time to hear Jack’s briefing. “About those corporate moles, if you snuff them out feel free to call me over and I’ll do a little magic trick I call “torture” and see just how many of them are in the convoy. See? I can be helpful.” said Tex with a rather malicious grin on his face. Cody had shown up somewhat late, carrying multiple bottles of homemade whiskey he purchased with what ration cards he had left. “Should last me at least a week, hopefully...” said Cody as he strode up, searching for a possible place to ride, as he had no vehicle of his own.

"Yep, legit as always. Sometimes I think I'm the only guy left in the game, apart from yourself of course, who uses the real thing. I like to think it keeps me alive. Well, I gotta haul ass over to the west side before the convoy leaves. Pleasure doin' business with ya." Marcus closed the storeroom door behind him and walked purposefully back to the 18-wheeler, now flush with cash and ration tickets. 100% charge. Perfect.

After threading the massive Freightliner over, around and in some cases literally through some bits of St. Louis, Marcus parked the truck next to a now-ancient Ford pickup with a hissing and squeaking of brakes. He'd have preferred to use the regen brakes for that, but he wasn't going fast enough for it to matter. The ever-psychotic Tex had reappeared along with the chick in the gas mask, but there was a young guy with them he hadn't seen before. Huh. "Any of y'all need a ride out west?" he called after rolling down the window.

"No. My truck is fueled and ready to go. And Tex has his own vehicle." Jack Davis said to Marcus before turning his attention to Tex. "What my employer tells me is company business. Keep sticking your nose where it doesn't belong and you will lose your head. Hell, there's already four people in the convoy looking to claim the price on it." Jack said to Tex before getting into his truck with Tanya. The engine roared to life, tires screeching as Jack headed to Owen's Guns and Ammo. After a few minutes, he arrived at his destination, seeing Jessie and Luna outside the building. "Jessie, get in. We got what we need, so there's no point in burning more daylight than we have to." Jack said to Jessie as he placed his vehicle in Park.

Flarbinia wrote:"No.

Stepping in the truck he questioned Tex, "You alright dude? Seem a little tense. Be careful."

As Marcus called her out to him, Cody swiftly turned his head, shouting back at him, “Yeah, I don’t have a vehicle. You fine if I tag along?”. Tex, still under the influence of nicotine, became very pissed at Jack after his response, but he didn’t show it violently. “Fuck you.” were the only words Tex had to say. He checked the chamber of his AR-18 in a kind of passive aggressive manner, verifying that the weapon was indeed hot and ready to go with the safety off. He turned to go find another vehicle who’s driver may be more willing to let a man like him on board or perhaps one that he could persuade with a little force to let him tag along. As he turned, a man he hadn’t spoken to before asked home if he was “all right”. To Tex, this struck home as an insult about his mental state, even if Jessie didn’t mean it that way. He wasn’t usually affected emotionally by insults, but comments like this would frequently send him into a violent rage, reminding him of the innocent high school kid he was 10 years ago and the events that sent him on a spiral to become what he was now. Asking if he was “OK” was one of the biggest mistakes someone could make around him. Blinded by his anger, Tex readied his body to kick Jessie over and execute him then and there. However, he stopped himself from doing something so stupid, and the machine gun in his hands was already in the low-ready position by the time he forced himself to stop and cool down. Slowly, he let the rifle drop to his side and hang by the sling. He let Jessie off with a warning, “Listen asshole, if you wanna keep your grey stuff inside your head I suggest you fucking keep out of shit you don’t understand.” With that, Tex stormed off to find a vehicle to ride in, or perhaps on, depending on the reception of the driver. He took a can of dip out of his pocket, opening it and putting some into his mouth before closing it. He kept it in hand, just in case it would be useful in persuading someone to let him hitch a ride. He glanced over at an old beat-ass station wagon with a trailer attached, and he remembered Luna mentioning a station wagon back at the market. “I’ll wait here and I guess I’ll see what happens.” Tex muttered to himself, knowing Luna would probably take a pot shot or two at him for even being near the vehicle and would physically assault him before ever considering letting him hitch a ride in her car.

Luna stood back by her car and watched the confrontation in front of her unfold. She ducked behind its steel body as Tex waved his gun around at the other two men and braced for him to shoot. Angry words were exchanged, and she heard someone storm off. "Jesus fucking Christ," she said to herself, sitting up against the door, "we have to get rid of him." The footsteps grew closer. "I'll wait here and I guess I'll see what happens," said Tex's voice. She summoned her strength again, clearing her throat and regaining the same tone she had addressed him with before, "What? Coming to me for a ride?" She stood, producing her sidearm, "Gonna shoot me if I don't cooperate? You couldn't drive this car if you did. Why don't you take that gun you're so eager to wave around and steal someone else's car? You said you wanted to kill someone."

To say that Jack Davis was pissed is an understatement. He drove next to Tex and rolled down the window, his eyes full of rage, his hand on his Colt .45 Single Action. "You got a death wish? I ain't the only one that wants to grant it, but you keep actin' like a jerk towards me, my muscle, or my friends, I'll plug ya right between the eyes and collect the price on your fucking head. This is your last warnin' and I will gladly make good on it if ya don't heed it. Got it, punk? I thought so." Jack Davis said to Tex before closing the window and heading straight to the Western Gate.

tanya

She grunted and and pulled back the slide on her pistol to see that there was a bullet loaded in the chamber. “Im sorting this BS out jack, then we are moving, cause we are behind schedule” she pushed the door open and stepped out the truck “Tex, you are sitting on top the main truck, aka, jack’s!” She yelled out to Tex as she moved closer to Luna’s wagon “as for convoy position, cargo in the center and repair crew in back, now get in your bloody vehicles now!” She sounded pissed and tired. She grabbed her walkie and spoke to jacks truck radio “jack, this is Tanya, Iv sent psycho to sit on your truck I’m sticking with the girl to ensure we got a black hand if we hit a snag, over” she waited for a reply while she stared down Tex pistol in hand and ready to open fire the moment he touches his gun. She then yelled at everyone “time is ticking, so stop wanking it and get to where you fucking belong.”

"If Tex is sittin' anywhere on my truck, it's on the roof. He will be easy pickings for snipers and if he tries anythin', I can slam on the brakes and run him over." Jack Davis said to Tanya as he stopped his truck and took his finger off the radio. "Change of plans, Jessie. You're gonna be ridin' shotgun for this one." Jack Davis said to Jessie before changing the frequency. "Bus Driver. This is Jack. I've noticed that you are carrying passengers. They better have enough Ration Cards for the docs. They ain't runnin' a charity." Jack said to the bus driver before changing the frequency again. "Attention, driver with the pregnant wife and the expensive Import. You fully stocked up? If you are, then follow me." Jack said over the CB radio as he looked into his rear view mirror.

“Well, don’t see any other options for transport and I’m obviously not going to be able to run at 50 miles an hour, and if you don’t let me, I’m not gonna shoot ya. From the looks of things you’re gonna need a gunner on that wagon.” said Tex to Luna as she got defensive from his presence. He turned his head as the masked lady yelled for him to ride on top of Jack’s truck. He turned his head back to Luna, “Well looks like I’ve got a ride now. You need to fucking chill, I’m not gonna kill anyone. I’m not that stupid.” he said to Luna. He tossed her the can of dip in his pocket, “I’d take that if I were you. In the apocalypse, everyone eventually drinks, smokes, or dips. I do all three, and I’m probably gonna die before that catches up to me anyway. So long.” said Tex before he turned and jogged to the truck. He didn’t particularly despise Luna, and had a modicum of respect for her, having made a cross-country journey by herself as he did so many years ago, and not being dependent upon the comforts of a settlement to survive. Upon arriving at the truck, he hoisted himself and all of his gear up and kneeled in the bed of Jack’s truck, taking a gunner position that allowed him to shoot in all directions. He then spit his used dip out, grabbing another cigarette from his pocket and lighting it, letting the slight vanilla flavor of these particular cigs fill his mouth, and the addictive soothing of nicotine gave him focused and pushed interpersonal matters into the back of his head.

Marcus practically jumped at hearing his radio fire up, more absorbed in the drama going on about rides. He tilts his head back after the message comes through. Dang it, he should have brought his car to avoid this much back and forth running. But at least they would be on their way now. He presses the radio's button to answer back.
"Roger that. I'm good, just got to get my vehicle."
He is immediately off back down the street at somewhere between a jog and a sprint, redoing the process of loading his rifle and briefcase in before shutting the door. He hops into the driver's seat, the car's engine quickly roaring to life as he reverses back and turns to navigate his way to his proper place in the procession.

Jack Davis changed his radio to the General Broadcast Frequency as he headed to the Western Gate. "Attention, ladies and gentlemen. Start your engines or saddle up. We are leavin' in a few minutes. If you have not stocked up, this is your last chance to get your shoppin' done before heading to the gate." Jack said to everyone still in Beggar's Narrow as his truck roared down the road, several bikers flanking it on both sides. "Looks like Mister Grayson has hired additional security. I wonder who else he hired to ensure that the cargo reaches its destination on time?" Jack Davis thought to himself as he came into view of the rest of the convoy and saw three things that he found interesting: a merchant on a camel flanked on both sides by men sitting on donkeys with their hands gripped around FN FALs, a family in a salvaged Humvee pulled by oxen, and mechanics loading spare parts into their armored car. "We head out of town the moment the gate opens. I must warn y'all: once we get fifty miles from St. Louis, we're on our own." Jack Davis said to everybody still listening as he hit the brakes.

She quickly got her rifle and ammo and went to luna’s Car and got in. She then crossed her arms as she looked at her watch “time is ticking and the deadline is coming...” she looked at Luna who was still out of the car “ hey! Cherry blossom get in the car.” She said calling out to Luna as she started undoing her masks straps
