Introduction

It's the year 2020. Nearly 20 years since the cold war ended in a victory for the Soviet Union. The Cold War in this timeline was far bloodier. The early 1970s saw a limited nuclear war in the Pacific between the US and China, which led to China being partitioned between a pro-Soviet regime and a pro-American regime. The 1980s and 1990s saw civil wars in France, Italy, Spain, and Greece, causing mass instability throughout the Western world. America itself finally collapsed after Marshal Law is declared in urban areas following 9/11. Now, America is a series of city-states, warlords, and small nations. Germany is under control of the GDR. Italy is split between a Communist North and Military Dictatorship South. France, Spain and Turkey have fallen to Military Regimes as well. Japan and both Chinas are still reeling from the Great Asian war. Syria, Mexico, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen are still in chaos and endless civil war. While much of the world is suffering, the Red giant is the sole superpower, but even Russia is facing problems as multiple potential leaders are calling for the resignation of General Secretary Zyuganov.

The World is falling apart at the seams.

History

1950-1976:
1950: It's 1950. World War 2 only ended 5 years ago. North Korea invades South Korea. The UN meets to discuss intervention. The Soviets use their veto power to stop UN intervention in Korea. South Korea falls, and Korea unifies under the Kim Il Sung regime. This forever changes America, and the world.

1951-1970: Without having to fight in Korea, China invades Taiwan in 1951, causing the Kuomintang to flee to California. The Suez Crisis, Sino-Soviet split, and assassination of JFK still happen as in our timeline. But things change for the worst when America gets involved in the Vietnam war.

1971: America launches a full-scale invasion of North Vietnam in February 1971. Anti-war riots erupt in major cities in April. Then, things get way worse in September. American forces get close to the Chinese border, too close in fact. Chinese forces enter North Vietnam, launching an offensive against American forces. The war escalates significantly when China launches a tactical nuclear strike at American forces at Phan Luong, followed by another nuclear attack on Guam's naval base. America retaliates by launching a nuclear attack on Shanghai. China retaliates further by launching nuclear attacks on the West Coast. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Anchorage, and Honolulu are nuked. America nukes Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Xi'an. NATO, Japan, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand declare war on China. China nukes Manila, Hanoi, Saigon, Darwin, Hiroshima, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, Tokyo, and Sendai. America responds by launching 20 more Hydrogen bombs at China. The Great Asian War begins.

1972-1976: American forces land in Hainan and Taiwan. A 150 day siege of Hong Kong leaves the city in ruins. The Chinese Communist Party exposes Mao, blaming his reckless actions for causing nuclear war. The CCP then collapses as they cannot decide on a new leader. Maoist red guards and anti-communists both start uprisings throughout China. The People's Liberation Army coups the CCP and institutes Marshall Law across China. China begins to collapse into anarchy and chaos. As Chinese refugees flood into the USSR, the Soviet Union declares war on China. The Red Army matches its troops into Manchuria and Xinjiang. Finally, on March 26th, 1976, China falls. The treaty of Bangkok is signed in October of 1976. Heilongjiang province joins the USSR as part of the RSFSR, Xinjiang province joins as a separate SSR. Tibet becomes independent, Britain gets to keep Hong Kong for as long as they want, and the rest of China is divided between the Republic of China in the South (The Kuomintang are brought back from exile in California) and the Chinese Socialist Republic in the North.

1977-2001:
1977-1980: The war has ended. But people in America are still angry. People are angry at the government for allowing its cities to be nuked. People demand "Justice for the 300,000", referencing the estimated casualties of the nuclear attacks on America. Both Chinas remain in eternal economic ruin, even though Deng Xiaoping leads North China. Japan does start to recover due to American and and resources. From now on, American elections always lead to riots.

1981-1990: The Communist Party wins elections in West Germany in 1983. A close Communist defeat in Italy's election the same year causes a civil war. Legislative elections in Austria cause a Communist Revolution in Austria as well. In the 1984 US elections, the Communist Party wins electoral votes from Oregon, as well as faithless electors in Illinois and California, but Ronald Reagan still wins. General Elections in Spain trigger a civil war in 1986. The Italian civil war ends in 1987, with a Communist North Italy and a Military Dictatorship in the South. West Germany officially joins East Germany in February of 1988. Close elections in France that year lead to a civil war. A tense legislative election in Greece in 1990 leads to a civil war.

1991-2000: Due to the nature of Gorbachev's moderating reforms, Hardliners take control of Moscow. An attempted counter-coup by Boris Yeltsin fails, and he's executed. Grigory Vasilyevich Romanov is brought back into the party and becomes the new General Secretary of the Soviet Union. Glasnost and Perestroika are abolished. A reinvigorated Warsaw Pact crushes riots in Poland and Hungary and sends troops to aid Communists in Greece. Yugoslavia collapses, leading to a Soviet invasion to restore order. North Italy and Austria are accepted into the Warsaw Pact in 1992. The French and Spanish civil wars both end in 1993 in Communist defeat. Juan Carlos I establishes an absolute Monarchy in Spain. A Soviet puppet government is created under Slobodan Milosevic in Yugoslavia. The chaotic revolutions abroad only lead to more riots in America. Mexico erupts into civil war in 1994. Communists win the Greek civil war in 1995. Communist Greece joins the Warsaw pact that same year. South Africa collapses in 1997 due to violent anti-apartheid riots. When it looks like things can't get worse for the free world, it gets worse in 2001.

2001: On September 11th, tragedy strikes New York City, and the World. 2 hijacked airliners crash into the twin towers. Another, crashes into the Pentagon, and another, crashes into the Capitol building. 3,500 are dead. Suspicion for the attacks falls on the Communist Party. CPUSA chairman Sam Webb denies any involvement. The military takes over the Bush administration. Marshall Law is declared in major urban areas on September 13th. Communist uprisings begin on September 15th in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Detroit. The Second American Civil War begins.

2002-2019:
2003: By now, the world economy has collapsed. Japan repeals article 9 since America is too busy fighting itself. The Soviets move their armies into Benelux and Scandinavia in order to establish Communist puppet states. Finland is integrated into the USSR as its own SSR. The Communist and Government fronts in America both begin to collapse.

2008-2010: Both major factions in America have fully collapsed. The Soviets seize control of Alaska, turning it into an SSR. American Samoa, Guam, and the North Mariana Islands are taken over by Japan. Grigory Vasilyevich Romanov dies in office. He is succeeded by Gennady Zyuganov. Canada annexes the US Virgin Islands.

2011-2015: The Arab Spring begins. Revolutions occur in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Libya. Tunisia, Egypt, and Lebanon submit to Democratic rule. Ultranationalists win elections in Japan in 2012, destroying any remnants of democratic institutions. Emperor Akihito protests the seizure of power. Akihito is couped, replaced by his son Naruhito. More power is given to the Generals and the New Emperor. Emergency elections are held in 2013 in Britain after an assassin kills Prime Minister David Cameron. The New Nationalist Party of Great Britain wins the election. Nigel Farage becomes Prime Minister. British borders are closed.

2016-2019 Japan conquers many Pacific Island Nations including the Marshall Islands, Palau, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Micronesia, and Nauru. Hawaii is invaded and forced into its sphere of influence. Japan invades the Philippines in 2017. Thailand allies with Japan in 2018.

The Modern World

The Soviet Union
"We will do all we can to ensure peace... but it war is imposed upon us we will be together shoulder to shoulder as in the last war to strive for the happiness of mankind" -Georgy Zhukov

The Soviet Union, as of 2020, is the sole world superpower. With China a poor, divided backwater, and America a fractured mess, the Soviet Union stands uncontested. It's influence now stands from the North Sea to Alaska, and from Greece to Svaldbard. The Soviet Union's near collapse in 1991 nearly ended the Red World Order, although the collapse of America in 2001 finally gave the Soviets their dominance over Eurasia. The only threats that stand in the way of Soviet dominance is a resurgent Japanese Empire, and a still hostile Britain. And despite its vast influence, the Soviet Motherland faces stagnant population growth, the global economic stagnation that's been going on since 2001, Islamic Separatists in the Stans and Azerbaijan, and a gridlocked Presidium and Politburo. This has lead to calls for Premier Zyuganov to resign and even some disgruntled Generals in the Red Army are planning to launch a coup and oust Zyuganov. Many Soviet millenial activists are now calling for Democracy, LGBT rights, Free Speech, and even Capitalism. All the while, an underground anti-Soviet movement led by Vladimir Putin is rapidly gaining supporters.

The Motherland is slowly decaying, like an unlucky civilian in Stalingrad.

The (Former) United States of America
"A house divided against itself cannot stand" -Abraham Lincoln

After the unification of Korea in 1950 and the Great Asian War of the 70s, American politics became increasingly polarized. The Carter administration was known as the "Last Stable Administration". America almost returned to Isolationism in order to keep itself stable, allowing for the European revolutions of the 80s and 90s. Things in America finally came to a head when two hijacked jets crashed into the world trade center in New York City. Suspicion fell on the Communist Party, and Marshal Law was declared in most Urban areas. Communist protests led to riots, led to open revolution, led to the Second American Civil War. By 2003, both the Communists and the Military began to collapse into smaller factions. By 2008, America is a patchwork of Warlords, Militias, Communes, City-states, Counties, and some small nations. Democracy is now a rarity in America. The only 2 nations that have some semblance of power are the Cascadian People's Republic (Western Oregon and Western Washington) and the Republic of Texas. The Soviets seized Alaska, Japan seized America's Pacific territories, and the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are under Canadian control.

The Stars and Stripes are shattered, and a shocked generation is left to pick up the pieces.

Asia
"All political power comes from the barrel of a gun" - Mao Zedong

The Great Asian war devastated the continent. 40 nukes hit China, 6 hit Japan, 2 hit Vietnam, and 1 hit the Philippines. After the bombs fell, China practically collapsed, leaving only the PLA to defend it from the US, and later the Soviets. China is now divided between the Republic of China in the South and the Chinese Socialist Republic in the North. Both Chinas are backwater dictatorships with awful living conditions and pitiful economies. Southeast Asia is still poor and dictatorial as well. Korea is still under the dictatorial Kim Jong Un regime and still seeking out nuclear weapons due to a resurgent Japan. Japan, unlike most of Asia, has mostly recovered from the Great Asian War, but it never forgets what China did. When America collapsed, Japan's constitution was altered to allow an actual standing army again, and soon invaded America's Pacific territories. Things only got more tense when the world economy stagnated and Ultranationalists won Japanese elections in 2012, abolishing Democratic processes and giving power to both the Emperor and the Military. Since the Ultranationalists took control, Japan has been developing many Weapons of Mass Destruction, including aggressive research into nuclear weapons and weaponized viruses. Japan has conquered many small Pacific nations including: Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Fiji, Palau, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, and Kiribati. They've even occupied the Philippines and forced Hawaii into their sphere of influence. More concerning is the fact that Japan vows to wage war against China as revenge for the destruction of Japanese cities in the Great Asian War. They also wish to re-conquer Korea and kick the Soviets out of the Pacific.

The Rising Sun has returned, vowing to scorch the Pacific once more.

Britain
"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be," - Winston Churchill

The United Kingdom stands as Europe's last Democracy. But even this last Democracy is slowing turning into a National Populist Autocracy. Ever since the New Nationalist Party of Great Britain won elections in 2013, Prime Minister Nigel Farage has been consolidating power in the British Government. No one has yet to be able to stop him since most of Parliament and the British Public support him and his economic reforms due to the endless global economic stagnation since 2002. Farage is also popular among the people due to his strong anti-Soviet stance and willingness to defend Britain at any cost. The only things that could stop Farage is both a growing Labour backlash, and a New Royalist Party. Farage has also attempted to bring Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and other former British colonies closer into it's sphere of influence, with some success. Farage's government has plans behind the scenes however. Britain's generals are planning for a potential war with the Warsaw Pact. From planning the construction of nuclear bunkers across Britain, to even the development of Biological weapons, all for the day when war with the Soviet Union could occur.

Even if the world ends, Britons never shall be slaves.

The Democratic Republic of the Black Belt

Image

Montgomery, Alabama - The People's House
Simone Crenshaw, General Secretary of the Black Belt, groans slightly as the sun of the new decade breaks through the shutters of the old Governor's mansion on South Malcolm street. With every morning she feels the strain of age tug ever more slightly on her bones. She's only in her 50's, but the struggle of war - and governance - have worn her down over the years. The killing was the easy part, she thought to herself. Burying skeletons, now that's an entirely different struggle.
She takes a deep breath, before moving into her boudoir. Simone picks up a framed photo from a coffee table, and smiles faintly. In the grainy composition, she can barely make out the resemblance of her husbands face, his visage now reduced to nothing but a static blur. When they took this picture in a foxhole outside of Selma, in the dying times, she had no idea it would be their last together. She had no idea that she would have to search his dying body for spare ammunition as a caravan of red pick-up trucks sprinted across the Edmund-Pettus bridge. She had no idea that there, in that field outside of Selma, the old Simone Crenshaw would die - and the birth of a new Republic was at hand.

The new year was rung in with mourning all across the Black Belt. For days now, scattered reports have been pouring in from Atlanta of unspeakable violence. It's hard to separate truth from fanfare these days, but after the massacre the Sons of The New South left in Charlotte last Spring, perhaps it's best to believe the stories. Friendly forces within the city sent word last week that the Sons broke through the I-85 blockade and pushed through the outskirts of Atlanta at a crawl. Contact was severed after that. For years now, factions within the Black Belt have been pushing for the annexation of Atlanta, and the rest of North Georgia - but conflicts with the Sons and disputes with what remains of the City government have kept their integration into the fold stagnant.
Image
Now however, with the reports of lynchings in Decatur, and the fortification of Stone Mountain - it is becoming evident that General Secretary Crenshaw must act quickly to prevent further atrocities. The Sons have wreaked havoc for far too long, all in the name of their "Lost Cause" - echoing talking points of the Civil War. Some people claim that race-based slavery has even been utilized to harvest crops in Son's territory outside of Spartanburg. Whether or not that's true is uncertain. Perhaps, though - the General Secretary thought to herself - it would be beneficial to the Black Belt if people believed it was true.

Montgomery, Alabama - The Capitol Building: Announcement of The Atlanta Campaign
"All rise for her excellency, General Secretary of The Democratic Republic of The Black Belt, Simone Crenshaw."

A hush falls over the General Assembly as Simone thanks the sergeant-at-arms at takes her place behind the podium.

"Good evening commissioners, representatives, commissars, and brothers and sisters of the revolution. As you all know, the news from Atlanta Georgia this week have been deeply troubling. While our armed forces have been able to keep us safe this holiday season, as we celebrated with our families, the Atlanta Metropolitan Vanguard appears to have finally fallen to The Son's of the New South. That fascist militia, which has plagued our borders for years, has thrust the city into chaos. This threatens not only the peace and stability of The South, but it threatens our own hearts. Like many of you, I too have family in Atlanta. The Empire City of the South has always been a beacon of opportunity for our people. Yet today, reports have reached us of public lynchings in Fourth Ward park, and the institution of race-based enslavement outside the fields of Decatur. For years, we have tried to diplomatically welcome our allies in Atlanta into our grand Republic. It is now evident though, that they need us now more than ever. Our friends need us. Our family members need us.

For that reason, early this morning, I authorized the mobilization of the Black Army into North Georgia. We will not waiver, we will not rest, until every man in the South is free - once and for all - from the terror of fascism, and the many forms it takes. Atlanta will be free."

Cabinet Room, 10 Downing Street, London, England

Secretary of State for Defense Jake Martin stood up in the presence of the rest of the cabinet: "Britain is not prepared to face the Soviet Union. Government spending MUST be focused on Her Majesty's Armed Forces for the next 2 years in order to equip, train, and prepare the British Armed Forces for a Soviet invasion." The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Lachlan Atkinson, immediately countered Jake's argument: "But sir, that would mean cutting funding from education services, not to mention possible wage cuts and the factor that our economy is still recovering from the collapse of the United States in 2001. We can't think about dealing with the Soviet Union until we fix the Homeland." Jake and Lachlan then break out into a argument, slowing bringing in everyone else in the room. After 5 minutes, the entire room is full of shouting.

"Everyone shut up!" Prime Minister Nigel Farage yelled from his seat at the head of the cabinet. "We are Englishmen, we don't need to resort to shouting at people. Martin, I do agree with you that the British Armed Forces are not prepared for a invasion by the Soviet Union, but Atkinson has a point as well. Britain's resources are already strained to the limit. So, Chancellor, I want you to calculate the estimated expenses for the next fiscal year, after that, donate 1/2 of the remaining funding to the British Armed Forces. I want the other 1/2 to be a reserve fund in case something goes wrong. If needed, you can take funds from the money given to the armed forces. Is that clear, Ministers?" They both respond with "Yes, Prime Minister."

"Excellent. Madam Secretary, where are we on relations with the remaining Commonwealth nations?" The Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, Lillie Knight, responds with: "Well, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and South Africa, with whom I also discussed this matter with, mostly agree that the USSR are the biggest threat to the Commonwealth of Nations, but they all think that we shouldn't do anything to anger the USSR just yet. While the Royal Navy is superior, the combined armed forces of the Commonwealth of Nations still don't have enough strength to face the Soviets." "Hmm, intriguing. Well, I think that will conclude this cabinet meetings, all but Martin are dismissed to leave."

After the cabinet leaves, the 3 members of the British High Command enter. Those officers are Lieutenant-General Fraser Dawson, Commander Field Army, Air Marshal Michael Ball, Deputy Commander (Operations) of the Royal Air Force Air Command, and Vice-Admiral Lucian Smith, Fleet Commander. Farage starts the meeting off: "Hello, gentleman, I assume you are here to discuss Operation Stars and Stripes, correct?" "Yes, sir. We have a problem in that we don't know the state of the Northeastern States, which is what you are hoping to secure. A pincer maneuver with a force from Canada and a force from the British Isles could be successful, but it all depends on where we want to strike. Where do you even plan to land the British force, anyway?"

After a moment of silence, the Prime Minister responds "The only good place in the NE states is New York or Boston. But, as New York is a better harbor, I was hoping to do a reconnaissance-in-force of Manhattan and Brooklyn with a force of troops. What do we have to spare for recon, General? "Well, we do have the Household Cavalry Regiment, with their new Ajax fighting vehicles ready to be deployed. I'll see if I can also scramble an infantry regiment to join them." "Good. I want them geared up and ready at HMNB Portsmouth. They will be deployed to America by HMS Albion when I give the order, and not until, is that clear?" "Yes, sir." "Excellent, everyone is dismissed."

6:00 Columbus Street, Central Washington

The sounds of footsteps could be heard echoing through the innermost part of Washington DC, breaking the soft silence of yet another morning. General James N. Mattis walked forwards, prepared for what laid ahead. The experienced General had lived here for almost an entire decade, this small section of city, cut off from the rest of the world with barbed wire and ever-attentive guards. But this was no prison of his, rather it was a protection against a mad world.

"Necessary precautions..." Mattis muttered to himself, glancing to his left.

The capital building, once a beautiful piece of architecture and design, a symbol of American excellence was in ruins, shattered from a long passed impact. The few remaining walls and columns stood black and burnt. It was almost as if the General could still smell the smoke and hear sounds of screaming. The image of the ruins was a melancholy one, bringing a sudden feeling of sorrow to Mattis. He attempted to clear his mind of such thoughts, there was work to be done. General Mattis quickened his pace, and soon arrived at his destination. In front of him stood the newly renovated Columbus Building, once known as the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, but now, the seat of America's new military Junta. As he approached the entrance of the building, he was greeted by soldiers saluting, and standing at attention. With a silent nod of his head, Mattis acknowledged them, and then entered.

6:15, Columbus Building, Central Washington

The General entered the Council Room, and surveyed his surroundings. All members of the Military Council, and other expected visitors had already arrived, surrounding an imposing mahogany table. The man glanced quickly at the faces of those around him. They appeared tired, strained. Many years of constant worry and stress had taken their toll, even on Mattis himself. The general cleared his throat.

"Let us begin this year's first meeting of the Military Council of America. Any reports, gentlemen?"

There was an uncomfortable silence, something was clearly amiss. The former marines commander David Berger answered grimly, passing a detailed written report.

"...Yes sir. It has come to the attention of the the government set in place in Upper Virginia that workers in the west have begun to go on strike. Certainly troubling news... Not only that, but any previous government and corporate attempts to calm the movement have been met with violence. The output of state facilities alone in the district has nearly dropped in half because of this. Who exactly instigated or is leading the strikes is currently unknown, sir. However, it is suspected that the Red Star may be behind this. I would su-"

"If we don't take action now there may be countless horrible consequences! Our economy is doing poorly enough, we don't need strikes and chaos to make things even more terrible!" interrupted the Head Director of Economic Affairs, Eric Kavimn.

General Mattis growled slightly, as he often did when perceived socialist threats were discussed. The Red Star was a collection of leftist militias to the west of the American Military Junta, controlling a considerable amount of territory in what was once Virginia. The group had quickly made itself an enemy of the Military Junta, with border skirmishes between the two a common occurrence. It was no surprise to the General that they may be involved. He would make sure they learned to fear the ones who held rightful claim over the country...

"I see..." he said sternly, "I recommend swift action against these strikers, before they bring disaster upon us, as well as an investigation regarding possible Red Star involvement. Are there any objections?"

The general was glaring, clearly frustrated. He would not allow his decisions to be questioned. One by one reluctant voices were raised among the members of the council, declaring their support of Mattis's proposal.

"Excellent! Now what else is there to address?"

"Ah, yes..."

The discussion between the Council lasted for many more hours, its members fiercely debating what should be done in the country, ranging from economic decisions to military reform. After some time however, this simply devolved into pointless arguing. Exhausted, and realizing that nothing of importance could be decided in this state, General Mattis sighed and declared, "The Military Council is now suspended! If necessary, we will discuss economic policy, among other matters, within the next week. Until then, you are dismissed."

What happens when one combines the Baltic States, interstellar technology, vast amounts of wealth, and moderate Social Democratic policies?

Armored Trials and Development Unit, Bovington, England

"Well sir, we finally done it. After 4 years of work with the design and building, we finally have a metal prototype of the Challenger 2 firepower and survivability upgrade, otherwise known as the Challenger 2 FSU. The prototype is outside waiting." "Well then, Lieutenant, let's see it." They both walk outside to see the Challenger 2 FSU sitting outside of a garage near the testing field.

Lieutenant Commander Harry Thompson stared at the new model. "I didn't think that it would come out this good at all. This is excellent. Lieutenant Michaels, what are the specifications exactly?" "The Challenger 2 FSU is meant to be a upgrade in firepower and survivability in tank on tank engagements and urban warfare. Instead of the 120mm/55 calibre L30A1 rifled gun, it is replaced with a 140mm/55 calibre L70A1 rifled gun, which means that while the best Challenger 2 shell has 630mm of penetration, the Challenger 2 FSU has a total of 800mm, meaning a significant upgrade compared to the Challenger 2. In addition, while not strengthening the Dorchester Composite Armor, we added multiple layers of NERA blocks in order to protect from RPGs, ATGMs, and HEAT ammunition. last, we had to add a different engine to the tank, increasing the power-to-weight ratio and giving it slightly better mobility than the Challenger 2." "Excellent, I'll tell the Prime Minister that the Challenger 2 FSU is ready for a combat test."

HMNB Portsmouth, Portsmouth, England

Rear Admiral Harrison Jordan was watching over the task force in the Portsmouth Naval Yard for Operation Stars and Stripes. The Household Cavalry Regiment, the 1st Armoured Infantry Brigade, and a small force (8) of Challenger 2 tanks all awaited aboard transport ships to be ferried to New York, but they were told that they were awaiting a late arrival. "Sorry were late, sir." a voice yelled from the docks. He saw what seemed to be a Challenger 2 on the docks, with someone standing outside the commander's hatch. "Why are you late, umm, who are you exactly?" "Lieutenant Commander Thompson, Armored Trials and Development Unit at Bovington. I was asked by the Prime Minister to join this operation." "Alright, I guess." He turns over to a crew man, "Get that extra tank on the deck, and then we wait for the Prime Minister to signal for the beginning of the operation."

Prime Minister's office, 10th Downing Street, London, England

A general walks into the office while the Prime Minister is working. "Um, Prime Minister, sir?" "Ah, general, do you have something to report?" "Well, according to Rear Admiral Jordan, the head of the Armored Trials and Development Unit has arrived, and the remaining forces are prepared to launch to New York." "All this firepower for a recce in force?' "Well sir, we don't know what happened to the US stock of M1 Abrams tanks, which even if it uses the 105mm gun, will tear apart a convoy of Ajax and Warrior AFVs and IFVs. So were sending 9 Challenger 2s to back them up." "Alright, send the signal, I want the boys in the Brooklyn Navy Yard as fast as possible.

The Meeting

A man wearing a suit pulled out a seat and sat , he looked around the room. It was the kitchen in a once occupied house, but was reduced into an abandoned building in an abandoned city. As the man thought of the home a group of men walked into the building, two of the men wore typical fatigues and gear with a light blue bandana on their arms, the man leading these men wore the same uniform but with a light blue beret. The beret man sat at the table and looked at the waiting man.

“So you’re the one the reds sent, thought they would send someone....younger. Anyways it’s nice to meet you, the name is Colonel Ryan Philps, leader of The Rainmen, so let me guess just like those fed fuckers you’re looking to attack us and take our territory or am I wrong?” Said Philps

Well, nice to meet you Colonel, I’m Marshal Bernie Sanders, I was sent to negotiate a possible peaceful absorption of you and your group. Our demands are simple, you and the Rainmen will fight under the NRAA banner, will follow our rules and laws, and attend the monthly Marshal Council meetings, in exchange you will be given the rank of general and still control the territory you hold but you will have to enforce the Council’s laws, does this sound good to you Colonel?” Said the Marshal. The Colonel took a drag of his cigarette and thought for about five minutes, after thinking he put out his cigarette and looked at the Marshal.

“Hm, this deal seems pretty square, but will I be supplied cause me and my men can’t hold out with what we got for long, if you can get us the needed munitions and food, we’ll fight for you.” The Colonel told the Marshal. The Marshal pulled out a paper and pen then placed it on the table.

“Sign this Colonel, and the Council will provide you and your people with all the food you need and more, and for munitions when we send me to fortify the territory we will bring as much as needed, so are you ready?” Said the Marshal.

“I got nothing to lose from this, so yes I’m ready, Sir.” Said the Colonel as he signed the document. The Marshal put the document in his jacket and gave the Colonel a handshake.

“Welcome to the National Revolutionary Army of America, Brigadier General Philps, I hope to see you at the Council Meeting in two weeks, the convoy will hold what you need until restock.” The Marshal said, he then grabbed a small radio and started to call in and responded with a small series of knocks. After an hour a convoy led by an M1 Abrams which was followed by several supply trucks and APCs. The convoy stopped at the building and the reinforcements and Rainmen began to unload the trucks. The Marshal entered a car and was driven back to Pennsylvania. Philps was tasked with organizing his new soldiers and the supplies sent to the territory.

19:25, Avis Valley Military Station, Upper Virginia District

General Mattis stared intensely into the valley below, surveying it with a watchful eye. The Avis Valley, once a peaceful place, had become the home of one of many new Junta military camps. Below, the General could observe National troops, training unrelentingly. The distant sounds of marching and gunfire could be heard echoing through the landscape. A slight smile slowly appeared on Mattis's face. These forces were perfect for what must be done in the west of this District.

It had been two days since the last meeting of the National Council, and the situation in the west had only deteriorated. Strikes were becoming a major problem, with most workers near the nations borders soon joining in the struggle against current conditions. Consequently, industrial output continued to plummet in the region. Police and mercenaries who had attempted to break the strikes were met with initial success, but soon it became clear that no lasting progress could be made without a unified force against them. The men who had been stationed here would be perfect for such a task. The General's body unconsciously grew tense, his hands balled into fists. He would make sure that the socialists would never question the Military Councils authority ever again! In fact, if it would be revealed that the Red Star was in reality linked to the strikes, well...

The General's line of thought was interrupted by the sound of someone entering the observation room behind him. He breathed deeply, trying to calm himself.

"Yes?"

Mattis glanced over his shoulder, and sighed. The one who had joined him was the leader of the forces training below: Commander Herbert Baskely. Baskely was a simple man, short in stature and plain in appearance, with a well-groomed beard. The General had spoken little with the man, but he was easily able to perceive much about him by his manner of speaking and expression. The commander seemed to dislike much of the bureaucracy that had become related with being part of the generalship in the United National Junta. Instead, he appeared to be a man of action, taking matters into his own hands. A admirable trait to see in someone of his position, though equally troublesome, Mattis supposed.

"Ah, commander. I was simply finishing my review of your forces. I must say, I'm quite impressed. Both through reports and in person they seem to be very capable," Mattis explained.

"T-thank you sir. That is truly... high praise. Perhaps you want to speak with some of the troops yourself?" Responded Baskely, surprised that the General had already finished his inspection.

"There is no need. Prepare your men to move westward. The Military Council needs these troublesome strikes to be crushed as soon as humanly possible."

The commander nodded his head in silent confirmation, and stepped aside to allow the General to pass. Mattis did just that, and began to make his way out of the station. He had regained his composure, a slight smile slowly returning. Yes, much would indeed be done.

The Occupation of New York

Postby Hypron » Sun Sep 20, 2020 7:32 pm

January 6, 2020, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York

Lieutenant Commander Thompson surveyed the City of New York from his position. For a city that had seen revolt 19 years ago, the city still seemed as busy as it did in Mid-2001. Buildings such as the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building still stand tall above the city, cars roamed the streets, and Times Square still stood as lit up as usual. However, the Brooklyn Navy Yard was more or less silent aside from a few men watching the docks, who are being held in a secure location on base. "Sir, the higher ranking member are at a meeting, and they requested you to be in attendance." "Excellent, I'll make my way there.'

3 minutes later, Brooklyn Navy Yard Building 92

Thompson walks in to a meeting of the commanders of the forces involved in the operation. "Ah, Lt. Commander Thompson, finally we can get started." "What am I even here for, Lt. Colonel Hayward?' "Well, before we can move for Montreal, we need to secure New York City from outside control. As of recent intelligence, we think that the City of New York is a independent city-state, while they do trade for food and other such resources that this city can't make for itself. Our first priority is to establish our base of Operations in New York and get a British puppet government installed in the United Nations General Assembly. Meanwhile, Thompson will be leading a group of troops down to Pennsylvania." "Pennsylvania, why would I need to go to Pennsylvania when our goal is New York?"

"According to the Prime Minister and the British Intelligence Service, there is a faction in Pennsylvania which may prove problematic if they find out that we are in New York. We don't know who they are or how much they control, we just know that they are in Pennsylvania. So, I want you to lead a force of AFVs and Challengers and find out what we are up against. Meanwhile, the rest of us will focus on taking Times Square, The United Nations General Assembly, the New York Stock Exchange, all of New York's major television stations, and New York Harbor. With that, we will have control of most of Lower Manhattan and we can proclaim the creation of the United States of New England, with a high-ranking American put in charge of the city and soon, most of New England. So, we all have our assignments, let's get to work."

45 minutes later, United Nations Headquarters, E 46th and 1st Avenue, Manhattan, New York

"3,2,1, Breach" 2 British soldiers kick down the doors to the UN and begin clearing all the rooms in the building. After about 20 minutes, they finally reach the meeting room of the General Assembly. "Clear." Lt. Colonel Hampton enters the room. "This room has been locked for years, and it still looks like it did years ago. Lieutenant, what is the status of the other groups?" "Almost all have completed their missions, and Lt. Commander Hampton's convoy just left the city. New York is effectively under our control."Good, air the message and raise the Stars and Stripes and the Union Jack out front."

All across New York City, a message from Prime Minister Nigel Farage aired on televisions.

"Attention, citizens of New York City. As you might know, I am the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and supporter of the United States of America until it's sad and sorrowful demise. But, we are here to allow New York to attempt to start again, to start trying to reform the United States of America. I have a plan, to form New England into the United States of New England which, with support of the United Kingdom and Canada, can begin to reform the United States of America. All we ask is that the citizens of New York City cooperate with the United Kingdom in this endeavor, in order to unify New England around New York City and your shared bond as Americans and to hopefully make America whole again. Thank you for your time." The message cuts off and normal programming is resumed.

One Hour, 30 Minutes Later, Trenton, New Jersey

Lt. Commander Thompson's convoy was sitting on the border between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. "Is everyone ready to cross into Pennsylvania?' "All units seem present and accounted for, sir." "Well then, all units, forward!" The convoy of the Challenger 2 FSU, 2 Challenger 2, and a few Ajax Combat Vehicles begin to cross over the border into Pennsylvania, heading towards Philadelphia.

Requiem
Trenton, New Jersey

"Those bastards must be mad huh, coming to our territory like it's nothing." Said a young soldier.

"Well, they ain't the sharpest tools in the shed for sure. We have orders, once it arrives at the road block we will light it up like it's fucking Christmas, so boy get you balls ready for a fire fight." Said a grizzled older soldier in a thick Irish accent, as he finished speaking orders came from the radio.

"All teams ready up, target's a block away, blow those bastards back to the stone age, over" Ordered a voice from the radio. After a few minutes the sound of several vehicles could be heard from the positions of the revolutionaries, in the buildings surrounding the road that the convoy was traveling soldiers checked their rifles, RPGs, and grenades. The sounds of moving vehicles stopped once they reached the roadblock.

"What the hell, those traders said the path was clear, send a team to move those cars and let's keep up the speed." Said a British officer. The team started to move towards the cars blocking the road, but as they approached it the speakers of a few of the cars started playing Requiem.

"Is this some prank by the locals?" Asked one of the team members, but as those words left his lips, a rocket hit the Ajax in the back of the convoy and destroyed it, and the team was shredded by gunfire from several of the buildings surrounding the road. The tanks began to attempt to return fire but were hit by several anti-tank rockets and RPG rockets, which damaged most of the vehicles, and the tracks of the tanks. A few of the Ajax caught on fire and were abandoned by their passengers, but as the soldiers exited the vehicles they were gunned down by the revolutionaries in the buildings. After an hour all gunfire ceased and chatter came over from the radio

"Four squads of cleaners go and clear the area, if you find any of them alive and kicking, restrain them, but if they try to fight put them down" Ordered the voice from the radio. The four squads exited the buildings they were in and began to check what remained of the convoy, after 30 minutes of securing, the four teams had encountered 25 soldiers, mostly injured soldiers besides one who looked out of the sort.

"Holy shit Captain, these aren't feds, these are Brits!" said a cleaner checking out one of the vehicles.

"Well, now we got to kick in the teeth of the British too, the scouts said it was just a fed convoy but they might of been slacking. Lets bring the live ones to the camp, take any armor or guns you can." Said the Captain. After that, the POWs had bags put on their heads and were brought back to the camps of the soldiers who had ambushed them. After two hours they were pulled out of the truck they were escorted in, and lined up and put on their knees in front of a tent, then a bearded white man wearing black fatigues and a pair of shades stepped out of the tent.

"So your the British dumbasses that my boys caught, I got a question, who the fuck thought that they could travel through New Jersey and up to Penn without getting seen? Like I know your British but geez you fuckers are a dumb as a doornail, so my boys and I heard that you were coming so we just sat in Trenton and waited and look what came up, well we didn't know you were Brits but it's still a good catch, now lets dish out your punishment. 29 of you will get sent to some dark hole back in Philly, 1 of ya will stay here as an informant." Said the man in black as 29 of the 30 were dragged and put back in the truck. The man in black then grabbed the officer and dragged him into his tent.

"Nice to meet you Thompson, the names Major General Henry Brown, General of the 1st Army we're the guys who watch this half of the Northern border and you'll be my guest for awhile." Said the General as he looked at Thompson.

Trenton, New Jersey, in the middle of the skirmish

"Begin sabotage protocol on the FSU. I want it to where they can't move this thing or use it's gun, bust it's engine and destroy it's tracks, and do something about the gun. Also, Charlie, let me on that radio. I need to get on the line with Lt. Colonel Hampton.'

United Nations Headquarters, New York City, United States of New England, 2 minutes before the skirmish

Hampton was reading a list of all the vehicles delivered in the 2nd wave of landings from the ships offshore. The remaining Challengers, Ajax's, the 3rd Battalion of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment, and the Warriors of the 4th Battalion. Canada even managed to land a unit of AS-90 Braveheart self-propelled guns via C-17 Globemasters from London. All of a sudden, Hampton gets a call on his radio."

"Well, Hampton, we ran into large resistance on our way to Philadelphia, and we can't pull back, so we need you to come and get us." "What's happened?" "Well, they were set up all along the road to from Trenton to Philadelphia, we just got caught in the middle." "Well then, we're on our way."

"Lt. Michaels?" "Yes, sir?" "get me CFB Bagotville, and tell them that I want bombing runs on the positions given to them by Thompson, and order the rest of the units to mount up. We will have their positions on the roadway their, and we will push to Philadelphia, where we expect they will be heading. And make sure that we have Challenger's at the front and the back of the convoy. And were taking the Braveheart's with us, we will need them."

Trenton, New Jersey, 52 minutes since skirmish, 32 miles from Philadelphia, 66 miles from New York

"Sir, we see only dead tanks ahead, besides one, the Lt. Commander's tank." "What happened to it?" "It looks like it was rendered inoperable by the crew." "Well then, did the Lt. Commander give us the positions of where the fire came from?" Yes sir, all of the coordinates were given to us by Sir Thompson." Well then, call in the CF-18s." About 2 minutes later, CF-18s bomb the positions that were reported by the Lt. Commander with 500kg bombs and napalm. "Well then, while I send out a team with 20 men and 3 Ajax's to sweep those positions, here's the plan. I want the artillery positioned 2 miles ahead, and when I give the order, they are to begin shelling Philadelphia when I give the order in order to clear them out, meanwhile I want to split our force into 3 groups. I'll lead the main one down the main road, drawing the attention of the enemy forces all along the route, Lt. Michaels will push down the west and move into Philadelphia via Wayne Junction, and Lt. Scott will move down southeast while avoiding the New Jersey Turnpike and Highway 295 and come in from Camden. Is that clear?" "Sir yes, sir." Well then, let's split." The 3 groups divide into their man fronts, while a force of Ajax's and a Challenger 2 is left to guard the Bravehearts."

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Thompson blows off the dust on his jacket. "Well, Major General Brown, I would be Lieutenant Commander Henry Thompson of the British Armored Trials and Development Unit, and I don't know why you decided to mess with a force which was A. Non-hostile to you B. On a peaceful reconnaissance mission and C. Had just completed it's objective when we saw your Roadblock and was about to turn back from where we came from, but here we are, and we all might just have to suffer the consequences.

45 minutes later

The British center wing was in position, having to fight through miles of enemy forces in order to get to this position. He did suffer casualties, as his column lost 3 Ajax's and 15 men, but he made it. "Left and right wings, are you in position?" Both commanders said "Yes, sir". "Bravehearts, begin bombardment, all columns, spread out, prepare for CQB, and move into Philadelphia.

16:25, Columbus Building, Central Washington

The Military Council stood attentively around the meeting table at the Council Room. It's members had been speaking for some time, discussing matters of various importance. That was when the issue of the nation's economic policy was brought into question. The United National Junta of America, like much of the factions vying for control of the country, had faced continuous economic struggles throughout it's recent history. The nation had become somewhat infamous for it's immense disparity of wealth, and poor conditions for many workers. In fact, the country's powerful nationalized industries and pro-government corporations had existed in prominence for the entire six years while General Mattis acted as the head of the Council. They had operated in a limited zone of influence, very rarely trading with businesses across the Atlantic, due to concerns over possible naval raids by enemy ships or pirates. That was until the Director of Economic Affairs said something quite unexpected.

"Gentlemen, I would like to speak with you in regards of the future of this fair nation's economy. I have been working on a set of very detailed economic development plans, which I am sure shall aid us in our efforts of revitalizing the industries of America."

General Mattis glanced towards the Director with surprise. Throughout his time in the Council, he had often shown himself to be a man of words rather that action, though competent none the less. It was certainly unusual that he would do such a thing as this.

"...Of course, Director. Please, do enlighten us. How exactly do you plan on doing such a thing?" Mattis questioned.

"I am glad that you asked" he responded, revealing a set of intricately detailed papers, and displaying them to the rest of the Military Council.

"This is what I have named as the Three-Year Development Plan. By properly reintroducing our markets to foreign resources, and using these resources to further expand nationalized industry, I predict that we will likely see an economic miracle. Not only that, but it would also aid our military efforts. Vital resources for our forces could be created and provided on a scale never before seen. The rightful reconquest of land would become..."

The Director continued to speak for much more time, carefully explaining what his plans would mean for the country. The General was at first intrigued by these proposals, but as time marched on, slowly grew impatient. Thirty minutes passed, and then an hour, and then two hours, but the director still continued to speak.

At last, irritated, General Mattis interrupted the director's speech, saying:

"I believe the Council has heard sufficient explanation behind this 'Development Plan', Director. We shall surely consid-"

Suddenly, there was the sound of a man bursting through the doors to the Council Room behind him. Mattis and the other members of the council quickly rose from their seats, surprised. A lieutenant of one of the local forces stationed in the capital rushed forwards, visibly concerned.

"Sir, our agents acting in New York have reported that a large force of British troops have occupied the city! They appear to be rapidly taking territory into Pennsylvania and much of New England!"

The General stepped backwards, shocked by the news. The British and their Commonwealth allies had often attempted to influence the squabbling states of the once united nation, but to think that they would dare directly invade a major city, New York none the less, was outrageous. If they were truly invading the region however, it would be inevitable for conflict to arise between themselves and the American Military Junta. No, there MUST be a way to counter this. A plan suddenly formed in Mattis's mind.

"Prepare any remaining sections of the military not handling strikes to move to the northeastern border immediately! If we must, we could push northwards and occupy southern New Jersey and territory in Pennsylvania, if not more. Until then, it is imperative that we begin a communication with these British. It is possible that they do not realize our rightful claims." The General commanded, quickly turning to the rest of the Military Council.

"This meeting of the Council is now suspended! I expect that you prepare for what will likely lie ahead for us."

Without waiting for a response, Mattis marched quickly out of the Council Room, motioning to the lieutenant to follow him. There was much to be done.

The War Room, London, England, 1 hour before the Battle of Philadelphia

The war room was abuzz with activity. Men were managing the movement of troops and equipment into New York, to begin to raise a army for the United States of New England. Also, they had heard that Lt. Colonel Hayward had advanced towards Philadelphia, which was not apart of the plan. The Prime Minister walked in and began to speak to the Minister of Defense. "Martin, what's the situation in New England?" "Operation is going mostly as planned, sir. At the same time as our boys landed in New York City, the Second Canadian Division and the 5th Canadian Mechanized Infantry Regiment advanced into Maine and Vermont respectively. Vermont gave in after the 5th Canadian Mechanized entered Montpelier and pledged allegiance to the USNE. Maine gave more resistance and we lost 250 men and 10 AFVs while taking the north part of the state, and the 2nd Division is about 3 hours from the Capital of Maine. Meanwhile, your message made it to the leader of New Hampshire and the state of New Hampshire pledged allegiance. All that's left is Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and establishing a government in the country."

"Great, how long until the Temporary President and his forces arrive?" "The First Airborne Division and it's commanding officer should be arriving in about 45 minutes, sir."

New York City, United States of New England, 1700

The first of the aircraft containing the First Airborne Division arrived, also carrying it's commanding officer and the first President of the United States of New England, Brigadier General Owen Perry, was arriving at his office in the Capital Building of the USNE, and he got down to business. "Lt. Commander, did you get the report of all Commonwealth Forces in country or arriving?" "Yes sir, the full report is here." It reads:

British and Commonwealth Forces for Operation Stars and Stripes:

British: Total: 35,000 troops, 30 tanks, 350 Armored Fighting Vehicles, First Airborne Division, 1st Armored Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Company.

Commonwealth: 40,000 Canadian Troops, 15,000 Australian Troops, 2nd Canadian Mechanized Regiment, 5th Canadian Division, Princess Patricia's Light Infantry Regiment, 2nd Australian Division

New England Troops: 300,000 to be raised to supplement Commonwealth forces.

Meanwhile, someone walks into the room "Um, sir, a representative from the United National Junta of America wants to speak with you." "Well, send him in, if he really wants to speak.
