Union of Socialist Soviet Republics

Near the Polish-German border

General Secretary Vyacheslav Molotov was seated in the modest yet elegant carriage of the armoured train that carried the Soviet delegation to Berlin. He was accompanied by Yuri Andropov, a rising star in the Ministry of State Security and personal confidant of the Soviet leader. Andropov had been selected as the head of the security detail accompanying Molotov on his official state visit to Berlin.

Both men were rereading the, frankly bizarre, telegram they had received from the leadership of the German Democratic Republic in response to the Soviet message agreeing to a summit in the East German capital.

"So, this is how I see it," said Molotov finally, rubbing his eyelids in a tired gesture. "Either Wilhelm Stoph has become a raving madman, or he is quite simply an agent provocateur in service of the imperialist Western powers."

Andropov smirked and took a long drag from his pipe.
"As much as I would be inclined to believe the latter, I believe it can be safely excluded. No infiltrator would act so brazen about his intentions."

"Very true, Yuri. So, a lunatic than. Quite a paranoid one to boot, based on his angry ravings caused solely by our rather standard earlier message to Berlin. Well, so be it. Somebody has to be the bigger man in this issue. Let's face these revisionists head-on, and try to get some sort of civilised discourse going."

Later that day,
Berlin

"Comrade Vyacheslav Molotov, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union."

Molotov exited the automobile that had carried him from the Central Station to the location of the summit. Walking slowly through the honourary row of guards, walking towards Wilhelm Stoph.

"Salutations, Comrade. It is an honour to be in Berlin again."

From: Kingdom of Greece
To: Imperial Federation

Cyprus is an island with a Greek population and a long history of belonging to the Hellenic world. At the same time, it is a well-governed possession of the Imperial Federation and we do acknowledge the progress that has been made under British rule. We also understand that the Imperial Federation has indicated its willingness to transfer the island to Greek sovereignty in exchange for a sum of money. We are thus offering $20 million and the leasing of a number of military facilities on Cyprus to the Imperial military in exchange for Cyprus. We urge you to consider our offer.

Berlin

Wilhelm Stoph stood perfectly straight as he stared down Molotov walking towards him. Stoph was wearing a light gray suit with a black tie, a white shirt, and several medals. Next to Stoph stood Honecker who was wearing a tan suit with a white shirt and a black tie along with several medals.

After Molotov had greeted Stoph, Stoph replied.

"Greetings Comrade Molotov. Welcome to Berlin."

Honecker then turned to Stoph and whispered into his ear.

"Do you want me to lead the negotiations?"

"No." Stoph replied.

"Molotov seems distressed. What did you say in the letter?" Asked Honecker as he removed his hat.

"I don't know. My secretary drafted the letter since I had to go oversee the museum at Kummersdorf. All I said was make it a kind and courteous response and that was that." Stop responded.

"That might just be the issue." Honecker grumbled as he walked into the building.

"Erich!" Stoph said angrily.

"Do your thing! I'll be back in a minute!" Honecker repiled.

"Please excuse him Comrade Molotov." Stoph said as he smiled at the Soviet leader with a somewhat tense smile.

Interflug flight 102 to Moscow

As the Il-62 cruised at 9.000 meters above Poland, nothing seemed off. The crew of three where calmly observing the plane flying on autopilot. In the passenger cabin, the inflight meal service was being served. And out of nowhere, three men and two women stood up and pulled out guns.

Screaming for the passengers ensued as the three men and two women bransihed their weapons threateningly. Then, in perfect English they said: "This is a highjacking."

The highjackers the pushed their way up to the door of the cockpit and grabbed the PA microphone. Once that was done, onw of the women in the group grabbed the microphone and adressed the aircraft.

"This is a highjacking of Interflug flight 102 to Moscow by the Russian Liberation Front. We demand this plane be flown to Finland immediately. If this demand is not met, the cabin crew will be exectued."

Meanwhile the flight crew weighed their options. For one, they could fly to Finland, or they could return to Berlin. Another option would be to land immediately in Poland. Without any discussion, the capitain decided to land immediately.

"Warsaw Tower this is Interflug flight 102. We have a highjacking in progress. I repeat we have a 7500 in progress. Emergency landing requested." Said the first officer.

"Interflug 102, you are cleared to land on runway 15/33." Replied air traffic control.

"Affirmative Warsaw Tower. Begining descent now." Replied the first officer.

Little would the crew know this was only the begining of something much worse.

Benelux-German Border
Flemish-Walloon Defensive Line

General Albert Crahay wasn't at all surprised to see Lieutenant Dan Band pull into his Line with NATO representing American MPs in tow, this was after all a NATO matter given the circumstances. "Good of you to finally join us, Lieutenant. As you can see we have a portion of our forces assembled here on the 2nd Defensive Line, normally they would be at the border, but Jerry overwhelmed our nominal size border guards in a surprised move before we could mobilize fully on it."

The General then showed the Lt. a map of the border area with positions of divisions and brigade elements present like pieces on a board. "Our working theory right now is that this was possibly an attempted false-flag operation for the Germans to perform a unwarranted 'policing' action on the Union, using the guise of claiming the use of military access to illegally cross the border en mass to 'find' their Kaiser, as though that's going to work. Chances are they would've caused more harm in our situation than have helped it, but thankfully they have withdrawn for now, but I already got reports of more build up on their side back at the actual border. At least for now since the Germans have left, the Prime Minister has since ordered the border to be closed to all in and out travel and the airspace around it to be tightly used for military purposes only." Crahay then explained to Band, then showing a folder full of documents to him.

"We've been collecting a series of messages and threats to the Union of Flander-Wallonia originating from German channels, they seem to have purposely left them vague as though they're planning to assault the whole country despite our protests and best efforts to assure them that we are handling the situation in Brussels." He then opened the document to Band and revealed the contents of it to him.

Documents Collected by the Ministry of Intelligence:
-Evidence of West German Aggression-

Return him to us, now.
We will pay money or send our army to slaughter your people. Hand him over, NOW.

To: Flanders-Wollonia Foreign Affairs Ministry

What the hell do you think you are doing?! You have basically declared war on us here!
We are trying to suppress the rebel scum, and apparently you can’t because we have a division on your border! A DIVISION! Even a rabbit wouldn’t be so scared.

Für das Vaterland,
4 Star General Adolph Zimmermann

"As you can see Lieutenant, they're... Erratic, unprofessional, and most of all, dangerous. Claiming to be the victims here while we're the ones they marched their boots into. If we weren't sent these threats and having to deal with the German division that crossed the border, we could've handled the situation in Brussels right about now. But between choosing to deal with terrorists or a possible full-scaled invasion from the 4th Reich, I hope you can see our reasoning for deciding to choose to focus on the latter here." The General explained more.

The General then received another message over the radio from Flemish-Walloon Command that the 1st Infantry and 2nd Motorized Divisions have been recalled from the Defensive Line to deal with Brussels fully, due in part to the German withdrawal from the Union's lands. But there was still a high priority from Command to addressed the build up on the Benelux-German border, and so the General was still required to maintain a fully mobilized defensive force with the divisions and brigades present that weren't recalled yet against the West Germans.

"Understood, we'll carry them out, Command." The General replied before communicating the rest of his Units' commanders about the slight change in the situation as Lt. Band was allowed to review the documents that the General had given him.

Benelux-German Border
Flemish-Walloon Defensive Line

Lt. Dan looked over the evidence placed before him as he sighed. Looking back to the General, Lt. Dan said "Well sir, I think that whoever is the man in charge across that border has some serious explaining to do. I think we will go and speak with them now." Leaving the scene, the US NATO MP convoy made its way down the road and to the nearest German unit where Lt. Dan exited his vehicle and stated loudley in both German and English "My name is Lt. Dan Band. I am with the NATO HQ MP unit here on orders of the President of the Unites States and General Goodpaster to help resolve this situation. Could I please speak with the officer in charge."

OFFICIAL TELEGRAM FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO THE UNION OF FLANDERS-WALLONIA AND THE GERMAN EMPIRE

I am greatly troubled by the reports I have been receiving from the border between your two nations. Allies do not nor would not treat each other in such a way. I have thusforth ordered Supreme Allied Commander Europe Andrew Jackson Goodpaster to launch an official investigation of today's incident as well as standing orders that if either side continues in any hotile manner, they will be treated as inflammatory agents and dealt with accordingly. I urge both sides to resolve this through diplomatic channels as mature nations. I offer my services as a neutral mediator to this end.

German-Flemish Border
As the Lieutenant from NATO HQ arrived, explaining himself and who he was, the General in charge of the German forces at their border screamed at him ‘GEHEN SIE ZUR HÖLLE, WIR VERLASSEN IHREN VERDAMMTEN ALLIANZ.Dies war ein Befehl von Anfang an
Minister*’ and then withdrew the troops from the border.
With the Kaiser still missing, one could only wonder who would lead German until that time.
The Prime Minister was currently running affairs, however there was a Kaiserina, soon to be at the very least. She refused to be coronated until she knew Wilhelm was dead. She hoped he wasn’t.

The MkII is available as a four-door saloon and a new estate version for the West German market. The 1.9-litre model continues unchanged, as the 1900; although it is the only version available with the coupe bodystyle and does not offer the estate version.

The existing Corona 1900 Mark II gets a new S version, positioned below the De Luxe as a sporty model, sold only as the two-door coupe; we're not getting the four-door saloon version available in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Italy and the Netherlands.

It is uncertain if this will be sold in East Germany.

The United Arab Republic

Cairo, Egypt, United Arab Republic

Long divided, much of the Arab people now stood united under one flag; from Basra and Dammam in the East to Alexandria in the West, the United Arab Republic stands strong. But not all is as it should be; the Imperial Federation controls the Suez canal, by all rights Arab land. Meanwhile most of North Africa, which should stand together with the UAR, remains at odds with our republic and their people oppressed. Perhaps the greatest issue plaguing the UAR's foreign policy is that of Israel. Nominally a US-ally, Israel has defeated the Arab nations and UAR on two separate occasions against all odds. With the downfall of the monarchies who drew their strength from the idea that the holy site of Jerusalem must be reclaimed, the opportunity for peace has appeared. Today at the dawn of 1970, Nasser reaches out with the hand of peace and friendship to their former enemies. After consulting with the cabinet and the state governments of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and the occupied territories of Arabia, Nasser sends a telegram to the Israeli Prime Minister

To Prime Minister Golda Meir,

Since the inception of modern Zionism at the end of the last century, the Arab and Israeli peoples been at odds, often resolving to violence to resolve their issues. With the downfall of the monarchical forces of the United Arab Republic, we now have an opportunity to resolve our issues with dialogue and the possibility of a new peace treaty between our nations and the ability to move forward as brother nations. We would propose Jerusalem as the site of the conference if that is acceptable to you.
We look forward to hearing from you

President Gamal Abdel Nasser,
United Arab Republic

Meanwhile in UAR-occupied Arabia

Colonel General Mohamed Fawzi, the UAR's Defence Minister began has tour of UAR-occupied Arabia in Medina, the province's capital. Nominally, Fawzi was here to visit Medina's army barracks and inspect the troops, however Colonel General Fawzi also had another task; to pass on new orders to the regional commander. Entering the barracks, Fawzi kept up the illusion of his visit's purpose as he spotted the man he needed to speak to; Lieutenant General Salah ad-Din Muhsin. He was renowned for his actions during the Arab-Saudi War and the Arab-Israeli War of 1967 and was tasked with pacifying the Arabian Peninsula and ensuring their smooth transition as a member state of the UAR. Colonel General Fawzi had updated orders for the Lieutenant General that concerned the more tribal, inhospitable areas of the Arabian peninsula that the UAR currently had a very loose grip on, if at all. The tribes were to be captured if possible and moved to the coasts where UAR control was much firmer, or if resistance was encountered; they were to be wiped out. There was to be no Saudi problem again. Finishing his inspection of the troops, Fawzi motioned for the Lieutenant General to follow him to an empty office in the barracks.

"General, I don't need to remind you of the history of this peninsula and what happened to the previous occupiers of this territory before the Saudis arrived from central Arabia." Said General Fawzi, "After much discussion with High Command and President Nasser, we have decided for a new course in the occupation; we will destroy any remnants of the Bedouin Tribesmen who refuse to migrate to the coasts where we might control them and better observe them than the deserts of central Arabia. We expect that this operation will take anywhere between 3 and 6 months, at which point we will be instating a new regional government free of martial law in the Arabian peninsula."
"Understood sir," Replied Lieutenant General Salah ad-Din Muhsin. "We'll get the job done."
Returning to the barracks, General Fawzi continued his tour of the barracks before heading back to Cairo, feeling confident in the occupation forces' abilities.

Dear President Gamal Abdel Nasser, as you can see, my country have never supported the State of Israel back in 1967. As a result, my country is interested in buying oil from your country for a satisfying amount of money (although not intended to make my country poor). In exchange, my country can sell you some motor vehicles, industrial machines, precision equipment, iron, steel and pharmaceuticals. Currently, I am planning on turning my country into an economic powerhouse (that is free from both Western and Eastern influence) and regaining Åland from Finland. I hope our relations remain strong and that Israel stops its blatant harassment of your glorious country. Answer me whenever you can.

Toyota to launch in Egypt?

Toyota have not yet launched in Egypt, but there is speculation they will launch in March.

If they are to launch, the Corolla, Sprinter and Corona cars, LiteAce van, Stout truck and Land Cruiser off-roaders will be available for sale in the Egyptian market.

Apparently there is much demand from Egyptian citizens.

Havana, Cuba. January 1, 1970. 1:30am
A tiny red glow was the only thing that had alluded to a presence on a balcony atop a busy but small bar in an equally small but crowded street in central Havana, barely a few blocks from the Capitolio Nacional, the home of the Cuban Congress. The glow came from a cigarette, a not uncommon sight. Two men sat watching the glow from a Ford Falcon parked a little way down the street, New Years revellers stumbling past, blaring out their obnoxious accents.

The two men sat inside the Falcon remained calm despite what they regarded with utmost revulsion on full display around them. Capitalist decadence had ruined the Cuba they once new, and corruption had long remained the way in which the country functioned, despite the best attempts by officials to end it. But perhaps they were not trying hard enough.

A metallic clicking sound, and the sound of a charging handle being racked signalled what was to begin. The tiny red glow on the balcony had disappeared.
"He's gone back inside," the man behind the steering wheel of the Falcon said to his comrade. "Are you ready?"
"I am," a much younger but confident voice said from the passenger seat. "How do we get up?"
"Door on the left of the bar," the driver said, using his own cigarette to point. "Up the stairs, first door straight ahead."
"Gotcha," the younger man confirmed. "I'll be back." The younger man opened the door and got out, jogging across the road before entering through the door next to the bar.

The younger man jogged upstairs before reaching a landing. He pointed the submachine gun at the door and blasted a few rounds through the lock before bursting in. He could hear confused shouting downstairs as he ran into the apartment, where man dressed in boxer shorts and armed with a pistol ran out from what he assumed to be a bedroom.
"Who the fuck are you?" the man in the boxers shouted, confused. Before he could raise his pistol, the man with the submachine gun opened fire, causing pandemonium in the bar below. The man with the pistol stumbled backwards and fell into the bedroom, where a woman began screaming. The man pointed the submachine gun into the bedroom, and saw a woman trying to cover herself with the bedsheets. He knew she was a local, and gestured for her to leave.
"Get out!" he yelled. The woman grabbed her clothes and left the apartment. The man followed her close behind, tossing the firearm out a window in the stairwell, the gun landing with a clatter in the alleyway beside the building. He made his way through the crowd that had gathered in the street outside and got inside the gun.
"He's dead," the man said. "He someone with him."
"Right," said the driver said. "Did you deal with them?"
"I let her go," the man said. "She was a local." The driver turned to the man.
"You let her go?" he asked incredulously. "She could identify you!"
"She looked like a whore," the man said. "She won't remember anyone."
"And the gun? Did you give her that as well?"
"No, I threw it in the alleyway."
"¡Maldito infierno!" the driver exclaimed. "Do you know how much that cost?"
"I panicked," the man said. "I wasn't going to run through the crowd with a gun." The driver started the car up and drove off down the street, weaving his way through the New Year's revellers.
"The important thing is that he is dead," the driver said. "But I'll be damned if I ever suggest you get another chance like that again."

Playa Baracoa, Havana Province. January 1, 1970. 10:30am
The welcoming sea breeze did little to ease the tension inside the substantial suburban home of Cuban Prime Minister Raúl Chibás. He'd spent an hour from six o'clock in the morning being briefed on the killing of an agent of the Central Intelligence Agency in central Havana, before another two hours of being subject to a barrage of insults from the Secretary of State, who was demanding answers as to "why another American civil servant had been killed by those fucking communists". A brief respite from being chewed out from the Americans was interrupted with a call from his colleague and President, Raúl Roa García, who also had called to discuss what would happen going into the investigation.

He managed to get some relaxation in before the phone rang again.
"It better not be Reagan," he muttered as he got up from the wicker sofa located in an outdoor entertainment region. "If it is, I may as well blow my fucking head off." His wife looked up from the book she was reading.
"Don't be like that," she said. "It's not your fault that those bastards keep murdering people."
"It is a problem for me because it keeps happening," he said. "No matter what we're doing, they're always two steps ahead of us."
"Take it one day at a time," his wife replied, returning to her book. "If anything, this might actually prove helpful. You might get the American support you've always wanted." Chibás grunted a reply as he walked to the telephone in the living room. He picked up the receiver.
"¿Dígame?" he answered. A familiar voice came through the receiver for the second time.
"It's Roa here," the President said. "I need to to come to the Palace for a meeting. Peña and Masó will also be in attendance."
"Yes, Señor Presidente," Chibás replied. "How much time do I have?"
"A few hours," the President replied. "Peña has to come from Santiago de Cuba and Masó is in Varadero, so they won't be here for at least three hours."
"How long will I need to be in Havana?" Chibás asked. "I did have dinner plans but I can have them changed."
"No, no," the President replied. "The meeting won't take very long and you'll be back home in time for dinner."
"I'll get ready," he said. "Goodbye Señor Presidente." The President said his goodbye and they both hung up the phone.

Chibás returned to his wife, who was still reading in the sun.
"I've been summoned to Havana," he said. "I won't be very long, and I'll be leaving in a couple of hours." His wife looked up from her book.
"Oh the President called?" she asked. "Did he say why?"
"No, but I have a feeling I know why," he said. "Anyway, as I said, I'll be back before dinner so we can still make the reservations."
"Oh good," she said. "I've been looking forwards this all week." Chibás bent down and gave her a kiss on her left cheek.
"I've got to get ready so I'll see you later." he said.
"I'll see you when you get back," his wife replied. "Say hello to Raúl for me."

Bloody New Years, Brussels
Union of Flanders-Wallonia

With martial law having been declared on the Capital city of the Union by both the Mayor and the Prime Minister, Flemish-Walloon soldiers from the 1st Infantry and 2nd Motorized Divisions quickly made an entrance into the struggling city to assist the now tired local police and Gendarmerie in the relief effort that they so desperately needed to help restore order once and for all after a week's worth of civil unrest and insurrection.

The Flemish-Walloon Military and Paramilitary forces within a course of hours quickly broke through barricades and remaining signs of resistance with great efficiency, with the paddy-wagons filled to the brim with arrested agitators and surrendered terrorists. Though throughout the night several more minor scaled firefights broke out from some more extremist holdouts but were quickly stamped out and taken care by Union forces with extreme force, as with an emergency warrant granted, several hideouts containing SS Legionaries and Leftist radicals were raided one by one in a night that'll later be aptly called, 'The Night of Broken Teeth.'

However despite the great progress made in a single night in finally stopping the chaos that had been brewing in Brussels, there was still no sign of the West German Kaiser that could be found in the capital of the Union. It was likely from what analyst reports had gathered, was that the Kaiser was likely moved to at least as far as somewhere else in the country during the confused turmoil both in the Capital, and also with the recent border incident with West Germany that diverted many Flemish-Walloon forces away from the Brussels and its surrounding area that could've otherwise had apprehended the kidnappers in time before they had slipped out. It was also equally possible that the Kaiser wasn't even in the Union anymore as multiple private planes had left the country between the time of the Kaiser's kidnapping, and the military affirming strict control of the Union's airspace. A full investigation would have to be in order for there to be a proper lead that could be found in the finding the whereabouts of the German Kaiser, though given the nature of his capture it was likely they wouldn't need to wait too long to hear back from the SS terrorists that kidnapped him.

EEC/Euro-Pakt Headquarters, Brussels

"Sir we just got more reports in about the situation in West Germany," A secretary then entered Jean Rey's office in a hurry.

"Ah yes, let me guess they're making more outrageous demands at the expense of the free world?" Jean Rey was already feeling unamused and uninterested to what the report was, given that he had quite the eventful day already all things considered.

"Um not quite, Sir. They're leaving NATO in protest to the events that have happened recently."

"Wha-What? Leave NATO? Have they completely lost it, how is that going to help their own case at all? We can't condone that kind of behavior and turn the other cheek within even our Euro-Pakt, they must face the consequences from even our own organization despite this being a NATO matter, less they manage to set a bad precedent within our own organization and allow other members to think they can do the same reckless actions." Rey then said, completely livid with the obscene behavior of the supposed member nation.

"Sir this may just odd insult to injury too, but we also have reports that they have declared their own alliance style faction called the "Europa-Pakt," or "Euro-Pakt" for short." The secretary then added.

"Now they're stealing our official name too? Is whoever running that sham excuse of a 4th Reich a blubbering child?"

"Umm, at this point I'm not so sure anymore, Sir." The secretary then sighed, regretting being the one to look into the matter.

"Looks like we're going to have to make a message loud a clear to West Germany, even if it does coincide with our Prime Minister's stance, we cannot allow this embarrassment to our organization to continue any further." The President then got to writing a message.

Sent publicly and to members of the EEC/Euro-Pakt:
Official Declaration of Condemnation to West Germany from the Euro-Pakt/EEC

After much internal deliberation within the Headquarters of the Euro-Pakt/EEC in Brussels, President Jean Rey of the organization of European Economic Community have formally declared condemnation to the member state of West Germany over recent actions that the country has committed that have been deemed unacceptable and not considered the actions of a upstanding member state in the Pakt. Furthermore the President has thus far threatened to suspend West Germany's membership in full for a currently undisclosed time being, however the ability to enforce the suspension has been requested by all members to be brought forth with representative to first discuss the matter at the headquarters in Brussels, and then later to be put to a vote deciding the fate of West Germany in the Pakt.

Francois Mitterrand sighed. The Germans where at it with their antics again. First they sent their head of state to an area in practical anarchy with no forewarning, and when said leader is kidnapped, they violate NATO sovereingty by marching troops into Flander-Wallonia. In Mitterand's mind, Germany deserved what it got.

But at the same time, there was another threat on Mitterrand's mind. The UAR. Nasser and his antics had put Mitterrand on edge. already in 1969 Libya had fallen to Gaddafi and it was clear the Trucial States could very well be next. France has no vested interest or reason to even protect these lands save for their oil. But that was reason enough in Mitterrand's mind to have a more active role in containing the UAR.

Already the French forces in Djibouti had been strengthened with the delivery of modern equiptment and the French foriegn policy often aligned with that of the Imperial Federation when it came to the UAR and the Suez Canal. However, in Mitterand's mind it wasn't enough. The UAR was simply to big a threat in French eyes, but it had to be dealt with cautiously since the UAR was pro-Soviet and a Anglo-French intervention could very well trigger the USSr to retaliate and then it would be like in the American film Dr. Strangelove.

"Sir." Said an aide as he handed Mitterrand an inteligence briefing.

"Thank you." Mitterand replied as the aide then walked away.

He oepend the report and his eyes went wide with shock. Dropping the pen he had in hand, Mitterand then picked up one of the several phones on his desk and dialed in some numbers. Still shocked, Mitterrand began to speak into the phone.

"Please get me the President of the USA." Demanded Mitterrand as he spoke into the phone. "Now please." He stated forcefully.

Gulf of Aden

Two Dassault Mirage 5Fs raced through the air like bullets. Flying no more than 500 meters above the sea, the planes where flying at nearly Mach 1. At this altitude, no radar would find them. and that was for the best as a mere 20km away was Yemen. It was typical for French planes to fly patrols in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden as almost of show of force against the UAR. And this was especially the case after the begining of the UAR's new policy in Arabia.

As the planes returned to their base in Djibouti, they climbed to 1.500 meters for safety reasons. At this altitude, they could be detected by radar. Unfortunately the Mirage 5Fs would not know until the missile lock was engaged thanks to the plane's lack of a radar. And just as the planes entered French airspace, a dreaded sound was heard. The cry of a missile lock detector.

Both pilots immediately broke formation and went to full afterburner as they then pulled high-G turns until the missile lock detector ceased to cry it's worrysome song. Peculiarly, no planes could be found or seen around the two Mirages. So after a minute of looking around to see if any hostile planes where still lingering around the two planes began the descent to their base.

Upon arrival the pilots notifed their commanding officer of the incident. Immediately the two pilots where sent away and the commanding officer filed a report. Something strange had just occured near Yemen. Could it possibly be a new missile system? Perhaps it was a new long range enemy plane. Or maybe it was an accidental freindly missile lock by a SAM battery. Regardless, it was a concerning incident.

People's Republic of Colombia/República Popular de Colombia

The world was...not what many had foreseen. The return of a German monarchy, the destabilization of Eastern and Western Powers hitting a boiling point and snakes striking from the darkness at all sides. For a long time Comrade General Velez felt that he was going to be a footnote in the history of capitalist imperialism, indeed before the Seige of Bogota that seemed to be very much a possibility. Those days were now behind him, he was the hero of a new revolution, backed by his comrades in the Soviet Union, his armies had placed Colombia under what he called "Marshal Law of the Proletariat". In reality it was simply a military police state. Most of his days were spent hearing reports of counter-revolutionarys and drug lords attempting to usurp his grip. His men overturned every city and village, FARC was now in control and a new red order had begun.

It was no surprise to see out of date soviet military equipment rolling through the streets, the Soviets were more than happy to turn Colombia into their arms dumping ground in exchange for the constant and much needed flow of south American agricultural goods like coffee and tobacco. Velez leaned back in his chair in his new capital of Medellin. Portraits of Che, Stalin, Lenin and the current Soviet leadership hung on his wall, of course with his own face as well. Ever time the door opened he felt a small adrenaline rush.

What was it? Were the Americans outside his door? Were MI6 or the CIA just around the corner? Was Colombia going to be attacked from all sides by the Imperialists?

Power came at a price, and in Comrade General Velez's case it was his mind. His executions were swift, traitors everywhere and the rumbling of T-55 tanks and BTR-60's, their roaring diesel engines were a constant. A bead of sweat rolled down the side of his face as he looked at the reports coming in from his "internal security".

THE KOREAN PEOPLE'S REVOLUTIONARY REPUBLIC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3E3nk79PNc
HYESAN, KOREA

"Manse! Manse! Manse!" The crowd erupted as the 50s-era war march played through crackling loudspeakers and those not chanting belted. The thundering footsteps of the Korean People's Army and local Workers-Peasants Red Guard shook the ground as goosestepping soldiers drew their bayoneted rifles and divisional flags dipped. This division in particular would once again protect fleeing Koreans and CCP remnants in Jilin County from yet another incursion of warlords. After the drab tunics with leaf netting passed, the WPRG-- fielding bare-bones uniforms and Korean War-era weaponry-- hastily walked past under the soaring banner of the Worker's Party. After that, a different kind of rumbling caught the townsfolks' attention. Five newly minted Chonma-ho tanks rolled past, a dozen machinegun-bearing motorsides sputtering after them.

It was quite ironic, in the days of the vile Japanese imperialists, hundreds of thousands of Koreans defected to Manchuria to escape rape and genocide. Now, those Manchurians, Koreans, and even Han Chinese were flooding into the peninsula. While it ramped up support for the now hyper-radicalized and early-formed Juche, it made the situation in China even more dire as the Communist Party likely had to rely on the KPA to cross the Yalu to put down insurrections. Anything beyond Mt. Baektu was deemed unsafe. Even the borders have had their fair share of attacks. Trading twin cities have turned into abandoned, soulless, walled wastelands of overcast skies and raining bullets. If the west thought the DMZ in the old days was bad, they clearly hadn't seen the Yalu Line.

In an outlying village of Sinjang-ri, a woman in a drab maroon joseon-ot (hanbok) dress clutched the straps of her rucksack, bearing all sorts of supplies. Her messy black waves went down to her mid-neck level, the top mess hidden by a faded WPRG cap, its red star glistening against the drained fabric it sat on. Her Kim Il-Sung lapel (in these days it was still white and square-like) flashed like a diamond in the overcast sky. On her back was an old SVT-40 rifle, magazines strapped to the inside of her traditional gown. As the parade disbanded, the lone civil defense militiawoman hastily crossed several dirt pathways to return to her village house. On the way, she saw two schoolboys wearing Korean Childrens Union school uniforms, PPS-43's dangling from the each of them as they lugged a wagon full of artillery shells up a rather perilous hill. Eventually, she came to the foot of a small but modest village house, pink azaleas standing defiantly of the joyless scape around them.

She opened the door with a satisfying squeak.

"Father, brother. I've returned."

She hung her rucksack and sling against a wall-mounted hook, tossing the cap onto a rack. She sighed, plopping down in front of the table. A radio continued to blast revolutionary operas like no tomorrow. A white-haired elderly woman in a grey joseon-ot hobbled out and sat down. On the wall, there were many medals gifted to her. During world war two, this grandma had been a part of Kim Il-Sung's anti-Japanese resistance movement. Well, if one lives their life as a forest guerrilla, they probably have every reason to have a bad back in that aged state.

"They've had their dinner and gone to Hoeryong." The grandmother shakily breathed in. "Workers' Party called them for commendation in the Border Guard."

"Ah, ah." The younger woman sighed. The elderly figure laid out a bounty of kimchi rice, bibimbap, gaegogi, and fresh apples. There were rumors of a harsh famine in China. The civilization that created everything in the east was now on its knees. Korea itself economically dwarfed China, and even though Kim Il-Sung's golden age of economic growth was coming to a stagnating end, the fact that they still fared better was an understatement as to the terrible conflict that was happening in Asia.

"Comrade Grandma, it seems like all our people talk about these days is the crisis abroad."

"Ah, Mi-Ryong... we thought that when the Japanese forced us into Russia. We thought that when the Americans bombed out every town for years after the ROK was completely absorbed. Be thankful you are participating in history-- and on the side that brings order too!"

Park Mi-Ryong looked up quizzically at her grandmother, and eventually sighed, finishing her meal to the tune of a news reporter enthusiastically describing the latest ways that the 'terrorists' had been 'kept at bay', even if only for a little while longer.

"This better not come up at the party criticism meeting." She said, half-jokingly.

Rawalpindi

The Pakistani high command was busy. As the situation in East Pakistan devolved by the day, there where reports of Indian troops readying to invade East Pakistan. This had many in the armed forces very weary of what was to come. India was a potent foe, and the high command was even considering pulling out peacefully from East Pakistan if India got involved.

But one man overruled all the decisions; Yahya Khan. As President of Pakistan and a former army general, Khan had imense sway even over the all-powerful armed forces. And it was Khan who vetoed the more moderate and logical ideas like pulling out peacefully or atempting to negotiate to defuse the situation much to the shock and dissmay of some in the military high command.

Yet Khan couldn't be completely blamed either. The general concensus in [West] Pakistan was that India would not be able to beat Pakistan in the marshy and inhospitable lands of East Pakistan. This was not aided by the government rhetoric claiming Pakistan would obliterate India in one fell swoop. The toxic propaganda hid the fact that the Pakistani Armed Forces where in sonewhat dire straights. The most modern aircraft where a mere 45 Mirage IIIs which where all stationed in West Pakistan.

In fact, the majority of the Pakistani Armed Forces had equiptment from China, the USSR, France, the USA, and the Imperial Federation. But even most of that equiptment was antiquated, or in short supply when it came to the modern equiptment. Most of the Pakistani forces especially in East Pakistan where hopelessly outgunned numerically and technologically. Of course the general populace and the world didn't know this. Yet Yahya Khan did, and was unwilling to change the status quo by sending reinforcements.

As the high command poured over intelligence photos, their fears where confirmed. There was indeed a massive Indian force forming on the Pakistani border. Yet Khan was seemigly ignorant to the facts and just sat there, listening, but ignoring. It was now dawning on the high command, something must be done.

East Pakistan

The land burned. Smoke and fire filled the sky as helicopters soared above and troops marched along the raised dirt road. The local farmers and civilians fled with their few belongings from the advancing Pakistani army. Many fled to India, and some fled to Burma. However not an insignificant few shared a very grizzly fate. They where captured, often beaten, and sometimes killed.

Even the soldiers who opposed these acts didn't dare speak up. Even the higher-up officers who could actually do something often didn't because of fears of reprisal from higher up. And meanwhile, East Pakistan burned. The people of East Pakistan where ever suffering under the thumb of West Pakistan, and their ownly hope layed with India.

Undisclosed Locations
SS Ordensstaat Schwarze Sonne

Not long after the Kaiser of West Germany had been kidnapped by their operatives in Flanders-Wallonia, it had been considered imperative within the organization that he had been moved to a much 'safer' and closed off location, far away from any potential prying eyes. The security of their operations remained of utmost importance regarding the likelihood of the success of their gambit and plans regarding West German politics, however the potential war caused between it and Flanders-Wallonia was an unintentional, yet 'positive' side affect of their meddling, especially with the former leaving NATO in a fit of rage. If they could continued to destabilized the NATO powers in Western Europe, the sky was perhaps the limit in terms to the amount of damage they could be caused to the domestic situation in the free world.

After Bloody New Years had been mostly subsided into mid January and early February with the success of the Flemish-Walloon military's efforts after declaring martial law in the capital city of Brussels however, operative work have been forced to maintain operations in a rather more covert manner once again, though with their current plan now of hijacking a multitude of news programs that operate within Flanders-Wallonia and with multiple attempts made with neighboring countries abroad, their handiwork will not go unnoticed to the free world, that was for certain.

On February 14th, the day of the attack on the media, first the major TV channels were the ones subjected to the signal hijacking that came from a unknown source, likely from recordings that slipped through from a undercover operative who had worked at the stations. But several more broadcasting agencies were subject to the signal hijacking throughout Europe, at least those with weaker security protecting them from such an attack.

Regardless at least several stations were involuntarily playing what was essentially a terrorist recording from what would appeared to be the Kaiser of West Germany presented front and center in a dimly lit dark room over some grainy footage broadcasted to the world over. He looked rather haggard, his mouth gagged by duct tap, looking as though he hadn't slept for days, with his eyes bloodshot and forcibly pried open through a ludovico technique as he was likely subjected to countless days worth of disturbing imagery and more 'visual' displays of torment.

A rather disturbingly calm man in a SS uniform then walked onto the screen in front of the Kaiser, carrying a mysterious clear plastic bag of sorts that was pooling with blood.

"It is with utmost certainty that the Kaiser of West Germany is alive, though not well. We claim responsibility for his capture, only going by the name of the Black Sun. Our terms are simple, we demand the reinstatement of Otto Ernst Remer into the German government, with the recreation of the Socialist Reich Party in full... Otherwise the Kaiser will enjoy a similar, but much longer treatment that one of his assistants had to unfortunately endure, god rest her soul." The SS Officer then showed a plastic bag up close to the camera, showing bloody severed fingers that possessed long nails with painted polish on them, clearly that of a now (thankfully) dead woman.

"The choice is yours to fulfill our demands of course, Josef Schmitt, the clock is ticking, you have two weeks to give an announcement on the failure of the Kaiserreich to protect its head of state. We will be watching." The transmission then cut itself off entirely before showing a distorted image of the 'Black Sun', before then repeating itself before news agencies then got around to finally terminating the broadcast in full.

The United Arab Republic

Cairo, Egypt, United Arab Republic

As Nasser awaited the response from the Israelis, some more immediate problems would soon present themselves for the ageing President. While still in his prime the stress of leading the United Arab Republic, and Egypt before that, for the previous 16 years had caught up to him. Knowing that the nation needed his strong leadership, he called for his personal physician to examine him to ensure that he was healthy enough to continue on as President. As the physician checked the President's heart health, he noted that the heart felt strained and was not completely functioning properly. While the physician was aware of the work being done on stents in the US on animals, human trials were yet to begin in earnest and so the only option available to the President was open heart surgery. This would leave the President occupied and unable to fulfill his duties for a number of weeks until after the surgery was completed, but if successful it would ensure President Nasser would be unlikely to have a heart attack. With his son still recently having turned 20, President Nasser sent a telegram to his trusty Syrian deputy, Prime Minister Hafez Al-Assad. Al-Assad would take over as Acting-President from the moment Nasser entered the surgery room until Nasser was discharged from hospital following his surgery and recovery.

Before Nasser was to have his surgery however, he received two telegrams; one from Sweden and another from India. While Sweden was a far off place largely irrelevant from UAR affairs, India was a regional player that would be a natural ally for the UAR.

Prime Minister Bakshi,

We could not more strongly condemn the actions of Pakistan in East Pakistan. They have continued to flagrantly ignore the international communities' calls to stop their outrageous actions and we would therefore advocate for stronger measures to be taken to ensure the safety of the people of East Pakistan. We stand united with India in taking any action it sees fit and we stand ready to assist as required. We would very much like to have a summit between our leaders, however I have prior engagements that must be attended to for the next few weeks. We certainly could look to hold a summit at some point in March however.

I look forward to continued friendship and cooperation between our peoples,

President Gamal Abdel Nasser

Statsminister Adam Wahlgren,

The United Arab Republic thanks you for your offer Statsminister and we accept pending negotiation of terms by our trade representatives in Stockholm. We share your aspirations of economic growth and we hope that our nations can grow together in peace.

We look forward to a positive outcome of the trade agreement,

Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir is reading intelligence reports coming out of Flanders-Wallonia that remnants of the Nazi SS have kidnapped the Kaiser. It angered her and the Israeli government that these Nazi scum still exist. Well I guess it is time sick the Mossad and our Nazi hunters on them.Golda thought. She sat down in her desk when her Foreign Minister Enoch Goldmann entered her office looking excited so she ask him, "What has you all excited, Enoch?"

Enoch answers the prime minister's question immediately, "Well ma'am, I just received a letter from President Nasser of the UAR about meeting with you in Jerusalem and discussing a peace treaty between our two nations. I mean we made the Palestinians Israeli citizens and that should help out in any peace treaty we have with the UAR. When I received this letter, I was very surprised that they even wanted to talk to us especially after kicking their asses 3 years. They restricted oil but we get most of our petroleum from the United States,France and the Imperial Federation. Are willing to meet with Nasser ma'am?"

Golda think for a few minutes before answering her foreign minister, " Yes, I am more than willing to with Nasser. Send him a message back telling that I will be happy to meet him here in Jerusalem."

Enoch nods and heads off to deliver the prime minister's message.

Dear President Gamal Abdel Nasser of the United Arab Republic,

I would be glad to meet with you here in Jerusalem to discuss peace. If you can pick a time for us to meet, I will make visit to Israel is a grand one. Chaper 1: The State of the United Mexican States

San Luis Potosí city, Mexico
3rd Febuary 1970

For the past 10 years, Mexico had enjoyed progress and development. Thanks to the Mexican economic miracle the Mexican economy had boomed and industry in the country had developed throughout the country, however although the economy on paper was better than ever, this was not making it towards the common people. Instead, the money was being found in the pockets of many of the higher members of the PRI and their most loyal and effective supporters. It was for this reason that President Marino Román Escarrà was brought into the office of President of Mexico, born from the roots of the Escarrá political family Román was supposed to be deepest of loyalty for the Oligarchy of the PRI and its control over Mexico. Brought into the Mexican government under Gustavo Díaz Ordaz the former president, he was selected following the 1968 Mexican movement which although failed to achieve any real challenge to the political establishment the Mexican government none the less attempted to try to pacify the populace through bringing Román to power. In the years before his ascension to being President, Román had been somewhat popular with many in Mexico. As minister for Industry and development, he had managed to achieve success in getting social welfare for workers and their families and was able following the Oil Crisis of 1968 to achieve incredible deals for Mexico and her oil reserves. All this made him somewhat popular plus he had been outspoken about making Mexico a strong economic power in the Americas and providing better opportunities for all in Mexico. The PRI now confident that Román would be a leader to the people of Mexico and a loyal puppet to the old guard of the PRI rested easy however trouble began to spring up. While they believed that Román was a complete supporter prior and his support of the people a simple facade they soon realized Román was not the loyal puppet they first imagined. While he is yet to take the PRI and higher-ups in the party directly, his welfare projects and wealth redistribution acts have been able to weaken the power base of the PRI and his time in San Luis Potosí city was part of a tour designed to encourage support for a new tax reform bill that would strike at the Institutional Revolutionary Party's monetary support by taxing much of landowners and reducing the bureaucratic costs of the government giving more money for better and more consistent social reforms.

The streets leading on from the San Luis Potosí Cathedral were decorated with flags of Mexico as a procession of Mexican troops from the local army base marched through the streets as President Escarrá watched over like a bird over its young. A smile crept across his face the loud chants of "Viva la México" rung through his ears and the people shouting up to him. He simply showed his admiration with a bow to his people as he walked up to a podium placing his hands on it he closed the distance between himself and the microphone that was on top of the podium speaking enthusiastically into it "Sons and Daughters of Mexico. We stand at the beginning of a new age of our nation. We stand of the crisp of bringing Mexico peace and prosperity for all. This new tax reform will cement a road for Mexico to progress and will provide not only more money for you the people of Mexico but also give more money to the Mexican government to provide social security for all and to help all Mexicans. So remember to get your local deputies, senators, and governors to support this reform for a better Mexico. Viva La Mexico!" Román finished to a crowd of a roaring cheer. This cheer is what Román wanted, not to fill some desire for power but instead as a message. Román knew that it is was the Mexican people that were by far his greatest asset. "Mr. President." A voice sounded from a man as he made his way onto the stage and stud next to Román. "Senator Trujillo had asked that you return to México City at once. He has asked what exactly is your goal with this reform bill." The man wearing a full suit and sunglasses to block out the sun waited patiently, Román not wanting to alienate his supports simply turned his head while his body remained facing the crowd his right hand giving a passive wave.

"Tell the good senator that I will be back in the capital in three days. Tell him and restoring the people's faith in the PRI." With that Román smiled as though he expected exactly what to say before the man had even put his pants on today. And well, that was exactly what Román had done. He knew that this man who had allowed on stage was a member of the FDS or Mexican intelligence service since it seemed he had made his way here with no trouble or bother. But unlike most other intelligence services, the FDS was simply the Institutional Revolutionary Party's enforcement service with the FDS reporting not to the President but the Secretary of the Interior a role which remains a position firmly held by the up echelons of the PRI. Román gave a final loud "Viva la México" shaking his fist arousing a similar response from the people as he turned once again to the FDS agent almost taunting him now but also the PRI. The agent quickly left running to presumably tell his boss Román's response as Román embraced the sea of emotion surrounding him from the people. He could easily go back to the Capital tomorrow but he needed to check off a few things here in the relative safety and comfortability of San Luis Potosí before heading into the secret battlegrounds of México city.

The Brussels Confidential
Union of Flanders-Wallonia

After a month following in the aftermath of martial law having been declared in the city of Brussels early into January, things were looking up to be finally coming back to some realm of normalcy in the capital for the most part. While some more meager sized protests from more liberal factions still congregated from time to time in the most popular areas of the city, they never gained as much traction and attention and level of violence that the unrest during Bloody New Years gotten to. And with multiple raids performed during the period of Martial Law against extremist against both the far right and left holdouts, shootings in the city have seen a sharp decline in recent weeks, signaling to some a victory of national unity and continued peace in the country.

However that was far from the reality on the ground that statistical reports could ever hope to illustrate, with the recent fatal shooting of a Canadian woman living in Koekelberg being a disheartening sign to the optimists that any true semblance of peace was a long ways away still in the Union. Protests from outraged citizens in the city quickly resurged against police and military violence, demanding for an internal investigation to take place to apprehend the suspected murderers and for the martial law declared on the city to be lifted.

February 14th

In the following day, Colonel Liam Dubois of the Military Police detachment of the Gendarmerie was quickly assigned to head the internal investigation, wasting no time to drive up to the scene of the incident with his car, which had been corralled by both police and military personnel, while protesters blocked the other end of the street making chants demanding for justice against what they called Government brutality as the investigation was underway.

"What's the situation, Lieutenant? I want a full report of your findings here." The Colonel said upon his entrance to his subordinate, making note of the police yellow tape and barricades separating them and the already pissed off general public. "Let's make this quick too, we don't want to agitate the neighborhood anymore than we have." He then quickly added.

"Yes sir, understood, we have some findings already, but if you want to be doubly confirmed we can check inside the house." His Lieutenant then said, offering a folder full of gathered evidence to their findings thus far.

"Would only be fair to, tell me where are the two suspected soldiers right now?" He then asked as they walked into the house.

"On leave at this current moment in their platoon's barracks in the city, trust me they're not going anywhere until this is settled."

"Good, I want to question them after I'm done here, and I want the witnesses to be brought into the station afterwards too, I want all sides of the story here." He said as he flipped through the folders as they causally walked into the living room where a chalk outline of the dead woman's body once lay. He noticed the TV was still on too, on the news channel no less. "Can you tell me why that's still on too? Christ she's already dead, can't insult her next of kin further by having them pay for her electric bill now." Dubois then said.

"Yes sir, fair point, our head forensics had insisted we not potentially tamper with anything in the crime scene, I guess he forgot to turn off the TV." The Lieutenant then said before the signal was then hijacked by the SS Ordensstaat and started showing the ransom video of the West German Kaiser.

Both of them stopped in their tracks momentarily as they quickly accessed what disturbing imagery they were now witnessing, "Jesus Christ that's him, the son of a bitch is alive!" The Lieutenant exclaimed.

"Yeah but look at him too! That signal must've hijacked the current broadcast, or maybe there had to a man on the inside you think?" Dubois then said before seeing the SS man in uniform come into view on the television, delivering his demands before then showing some severed fingers to the screen. "I think I'm gonna be sick..." The Colonel then said, quickly looking away from the TV.

"Sir I know we're currently working on a investigation, but-" The Lieutenant was then quickly interrupted.

"Don't worry I agree with you, lets get these sick sons of a bitches before they get the slip on us again." They then both nodded and left for their cars and armored transports. Quickly ordering a contingent of personnel to follow them to the affected broadcasting station in the city, being currently en route to investigate and hopefully apprehend the inside man or men involved in the hijacking in hopes of finding answers too to the kidnapped Kaiser.

The Audit Conspiracy
Union of Flanders-Wallonia

Prime Minister Jean Denis wasn't having the best of time, in fact even while he still managed to steer away the country from both an uprising and potential war last month, the Council of Ministers were still greatly critical of his performance of being Prime Minister during these new and emerging troubling times thus far. And with the unrest that had been caused, they saw it fit to audit his continued leadership of the Union, saying it'd be best that the nation transition to perhaps a new Prime Minister after he had ruled the country already for the past 12 years relatively unopposed. Which as Denis could tell, meant he had until March to clear his name of any accusations of incompetence before Leopold III were to replace him with someone else in the Council.

He was fully well aware though that his chain was being yanked from the powers to be internally, even from his own political 'allies,' especially from the Degrelle sympathizers that almost handed the Union to the mad man a month ago if it weren't for Denis swift declaration of martial law and allowing indiscriminate raids on their hideouts throughout the country.

However things only got somehow worse than they already were for the Prime Minister this morning as he received multiple reports throughout the Union and abroad of TV signals getting hijacked that showed an explicit and disturbing ransom video of the kidnapped Kaiser from a month prior still being alive, but under clear duress and clearly showing signs already of being tortured by a group of Neo-Nazis, called none other than the 'Black Sun.'

"Degrelle..." Was all he muttered as he listened to the report from his secretary who had been there to tell him. "So it really was his handy work, son of a bitch is more crafty than I gave him credit for. The world can't know it's him that's doing this, it could ruin our international reputation and make us seem tied to his insanity somehow, knowing him that's his plan all along..." Denis then said, clearly himself a bit stressed and still tensed from last month.

"What you suggest we do, Sir?" His secretary then said, clearly concerned, but more so for the health of his Prime Minister.

"I have an idea of two left before they remove in full for this..." He then made a telegram to the Union's longest ally since WWII, the United States.

Hello Mr. President,

My time as being Prime Minister of the Union is entering its twilight years, but with the recent media hijacking at the hands of the 'Black Sun' terrorist organization. The Union is in need of American assistance in searching and rescuing the Kaiser of West Germany, and delivering a first and final blow to the terrorists that have caused so much damage to the Union's people already since New Years. We request whatever intelligence and counter-insurgency services that can be offered to the Union from the Land of the Free.

Deepest regards,
Prime Minister Jean Denis

Union of Socialist Soviet Republics

General Secretary Vyacheslav Molotov, seating at his work desk in the Kremlin, peered over the assembled documents in front of him. Diplomatic documents, espionage reports, news articles and assorted informative papers on the state of the world graced his desk.

A knock on his door awoke him from his deep thoughts.

"Come in." Prime Minister Lazar Kaganovich saluted and walked into the office, taking a comfortable seat nearby Molotov's desk.

"Good to see you again, Vyacheslav. How did the Berlin meeting go?"

"Splendid, Lazar. The German Democratic Republic government has seemingly seen sense, and has shelved the plans for membership of the Western economic alliance. Who knows what got in their minds to think about it in the first place. Fortunately, the erratic behaviour of the West German rulers has quickly made people in Berlin realise that they want to no part in the mess that is taking place out West."

Kaganovich nodded with a smile.

"Outstanding. Unfortunately, those aren't the only weird events of the past weeks. Surely, you have heard of what the United Arab Republic is up to?"

"Indeed. Proposing peace to the Zionists, seemingly out of nowhere. I suppose they will explain it away by referring to the defeat in 1967, but that was three years ago. Why the sudden switch comes now is anyone's guess. Not even our MGB agents in the Middle East have been able to report a solid reason behind it. Right, Viktor? "

Viktor Abakumov, Minister of State Security and as such director of the MGB espionage unit, who had been sitting in a nearby corner, shrugged.

"My best guess is that Nasser is getting on in years. Some reports state he is suffering from ailing health. I would hazard a guess that some figures in the background are slowly taking over the reigns and are trying to steer the country in a different direction. Imagine an Arab version of what Beria tried to pull off over here when Comrade Stalin passed away."

Molotov nodded gravely. "We'll have to keep a close eye on the matter. Rapprochement with Israel is one thing, bizarre as it may be. But a government that suddenly changes policy so drastically, ispotentially liable to be erratic in other matter as well. Not to mention, such a sudden reversal of 22 years of official policy is likely to result in significant instability and strife within the country. We need to ensure that we're in the know about what will happen."

"Let's not forget Libya," Kaganovich interceded. "The UAR is open about its desire to unify all Arab lands, and ever since the 1969 Libyan Revolution, there have been talks between them and the Libyan Arab Republic. Chairman Muammar al-Gadhaffi was on board with a possible merger, but this rapprochement with Tel Aviv is likely to throw a massive wrench into those negotiations. It's unlikely that Gadhaffi will continue the unification talks now, and it's difficult to predict what the UAR will do if that happens."

"Good point, Comrade Prime Minister," Molotov concluded. "Send a message to the Libyan embassy, ensuring them of our continued support i whatever happens. And one to our ambassador in Cairo, tasking him to continue cultivate our close relations with the United Arab Republic for the time being. This Israel adventure needs not compromise our relationship with Nasser, after all."
